Monsters. Monsters prey upon the living of this world. They tend to appear most often at night as most are nocturnal, and how strong they become are tied to the phases of the moon. The new moons are when they are weakest, while full moons they’re at their strongest. While they are dangerous, the general public don’t tend to have much to worry about as specialists work around the clock to keep them at bay. These specialists are called Exorcists. They carry a special token around as both a license and currency card. Every kill rewards them with money and the stronger the monster, the bigger the pay.
Monsters have different strength levels and are categorized into different classes.
A-G, A being the strongest and G being the weakest. Each class is broken into 5 sub-levels with 1 being the strongest and 5 being the weakest in each letter group. So A-1 would be the strongest monster while G-5 would be among the weakest.
Magic is derived from monsters themselves and are used by exorcists on occasion. However the process to obtain it is strictly prohibited. You have to make a deal with a monster which is highly dangerous because it means you are linked to one another. This may result in you being manipulated or killed.
Some monsters can take on human forms, however only the strongest of these creatures can use magic in their human form (strongest being that of the A category). This human form can last until the moon rises, then their disguise falls apart.
While it is public speculation that monsters feast on the inhabitants of this world, there are a small few who would question the true morality behind these creatures...
