" James Pendragon "

Really. hard. not to. kiss her. Lydia's vision was obscured with black hair as James flung down his arms around her in the tightest, pick-her-off-her-feet-spin-her-around-butterflies-in-the-stomach-leave-her-breathless-and-smiling-I-love-you-so-much hug.

"I love you, I love you, I love you, IloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyou ---" James took a deep breath, " --- IloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyou, " he went on for a full five minutes, chuckling, smiling and looking at her adoringly, " IloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyouIloveyou. I love you, Lydia Dubois!"

He squeezed her tight, his affections overflowing and heart abounding in joy. She really made him feel enough, like what he's been striving for a long time was suddenly given to him. And he felt peaceful. He never felt this way before. Where did she come from?

He gazed at her in adoring wonder, foreheads touching, breathless and speechless, really looking like he wants to kiss her so bad. Like his soul needs to express the full power of how he felt right now, or he was going to burst. She needs to know. "Lydia, dearest Lydia," He sighed, cupping her cheek. Softly pressing his fingers to her lips again, he closed his eyes and gave her the most tender kiss behind it, cradling her cheek so gently.

" Kenren Taisho "

"Like my mind has a fever." whispered Kenren, hugging him even tighter and biting harder. "I feel tingly. Are you feeling this?" he bit his shirt instead, teeth gritting tight. He shuddered when Chenglei kissed his ear, clenching the back of his shirt. "We can kiss now?" he said, looking up to him for affirmation. "Have you decided whether you're alright with this?"

-Last Day of School-
"One Shot"

original.jpg
Frederick looked serious. It was hard to tell if he was disappointed or proud as he remained silent, his gaze settled on the door of the headmaster’s office where Madam Dubois was in conference with Master Roussaeu. It was obvious he was trying to hear what was being said inside as he sat right next to the closed entrance and gave Thomas a harsh glare or elbow to the side every now and then.

Thomas was laughing. He was laughing and covered in dirt. He was covered in dirt, his face was smudged, his uniform disheveled, and his hair a mess - just like his nine-year-old little sister who wore a somber and appropriately worried expression as the aim of her gaze shifted between both of her brothers and the headmaster’s door. Lydia slumped over slightly, her elbows resting on her knees as her hands propped up her face and her gaze now intently focused on her dusty and scuffed up loafers.

She hadn’t meant for herself and Thomas to end up in the headmaster’s office and now their fate at the academy seemed uncertain; it was that uncertainty that filled her with dread.

The day had begun like any other, after arriving at school Lydia attended her assigned classes, taking any spare time she had to read and generally staying to herself, which wasn’t hard because unless there was a group assignment, no one really talked to her and they hadn’t in a long time, not at least involving anything unrelated to school. It had only been a year since this change, she was only in third grade now and her earlier school years had been relatively normal and sociable. It was when she had taken a keener interest in self study, mainly because the things she wanted to study weren’t typically offered at any school in Bourgeaus, let alone Frankia.

It was after Lydia had finished her lunch and found a nice spot for reading, under a tree in the courtyard of the school where the students ate their meals on nice days. She had found a rather unusual book in the school’s library, one that she had not expected to find entitled Arcane Contributions in Antiquated Practices. She wondered if the librarians even had any idea what they had elected to place on their shelves, or if they even knew that it was there. The book had evidently belonged to someone named Ethel Rimbauer, so she guessed it was probably a donation and not something the academy actually actively sought.

She had become quite engrossed in the book, at first she hadn’t been sure if it would be what she thought it might, she had to look up the word ‘antiquated’ after she had found it and then she decided to take a chance with it, looking through the table of contents only to find that it at least appeared to be an authentic magic book. She was now about half way through and hadn’t realized that someone had been steadily sneaking up on her, snatching the book from her hands as he crept up behind the tree.

“What’re you reading, four eyes?” it was Marcus Lemieux, a boy in a class a grade higher than hers that had a penchant for picking on girls. Most of his antics revolved around hair pulling, name calling, and the occasional water balloon, but he was otherwise harmless.

Lydia jumped as the book was suddenly snatched from her hands and looked back at him, “u-um… i-it’s a b-book about… magic…” she had never personally had a run-in with Marcus since she wasn’t in the same grade, but girls in her class had friends in his and she often heard them talking about whatever stunt he had pulled that day. One of her hands remained pressed down against her skirt while her other timidly reached outward towards him, her gaze sheepishly drifting from the ground to peering over the rim of the black frames of her glasses towards Marcus and back again, “u-um… c-can I please have it b-back?”

Marcus scoffed and looked at the book, flipping uninterestedly through the pages before laughing loudly, a laugh which caught the attention of some of the other children in the courtyard that were nearby, their gazes drifting towards the two, “boy that’s stupid! Magic! Only babies believe in magic,” he threw the book down on the ground without any regard and a mean grin on his face “you must be dumber than you look.”

Lydia’s mouth popped open slightly as he threw the book to the ground, her brow furrowing as she frowned, “i-it’s not s-stupid… magic is real…” her black hair that hung to her waist shifted to fall over her shoulder as she moved to her knees and reached for the book where it lay open and on the ground with the pages facing down, only to fail at collecting it when Marcus put his foot on it and held it there.

The kids who had noticed them because of Marcus’ laugh had come closer and the small group forming had drawn the attention of others, including Thomas. Again Marcus guffawed abruptly and shook his head, “oh yeah? Says who?”

“M-Master Howl Pendragon… the best wizard in the world!” while she faltered at the beginning of her statement, she said the last part more firmly and once it was said, Thomas sighed and shook his head as Marcus stepped off of her book and doubled over with laughter, pointing at her, “man you are so dumb! So’s,” he spoke the next part in a squeaky and mocking tone, “Master Howl Pendragon!”

Lydia looked completely affronted as she quickly rose to her feet and only now noticed that a group had formed around them as she heard the other kids start laughing too, spotting her brother still shaking his head and looking at her sadly. She turned her gaze back on Marcus, her expression turning angry as she stomped her foot, “Master Howl is not dumb! You take that back!”

“No! I’m not taking it back cuz it’s true!” he continued to laugh and Lydia looked increasingly frustrated and indignant in the face of his continuous laughter and mocking attitude coupled with the teasing, name calling, and laughter that was now coming from the children around them except for Thomas. She drew in a deep breath, the childish rage brought on by her hero being insulted burning in her eyes.

SMACK!

Marcus stopped laughing, so did all of the other kids, the laughter replaced by a few gasps and utterances of shock. Lydia had balled up her tiny girl fist and socked Marcus right in the jaw. His blue eyes were wide with shock as he turned his head back to look at her, rubbing the side of his face, “you stupid little…” he reached for her hair and grabbed a handful of it, Lydia shrieked and grabbed at his wrist, “l-let go of me you behemoth!”

Marcus’ hand on his sister’s hair was enough to spur Thomas into action and he ran in, punching Marcus in the side of his face that Lydia had already clocked, “let go of my sister!”

Marcus’ face hit the ground as he fell and only a moment after that, one of his friends had rushed in shoving Thomas and calling him something along the lines of ‘poop sandwich,’ Marcus was up a moment after that, just as angry looking as Lydia had been and he ran at Thomas, tackling him to the ground, “you’re just as stupid as she is!”

In a flash, Lydia was on Marcus’ back, beating him about the head and shoulders, “leave my brother alone you big jerk!”

It had only escalated from there with Marcus’ friends and Thomas’ joining in to help their friends until one of the teachers had noticed the ruckus and come to break it up, which was done easily enough, all they did was yell loudly and everyone hopped to attention and all fingers were pointed at Lydia when they were asked who started it, Thomas had just been collateral since he had been there and was her brother.

So now there they sat, waiting outside of Headmaster Rousaeu’s office. Frederick was in another building on the academy’s campus since he was in the upper grades, but had been called in any way since he was a Dubois and this only made Lydia feel worse, like one little round of teasing had caused her to lose her temper so badly that she might not only get herself expelled, but her brothers as well.

Eventually Madam Dubois exited the office, apologizing to Master Rousaeu and shaking his hand, thanking him for his patience. He looked to the Dubois children gravely before closing the door behind their mother. The matron Dubois stood there silently for a moment before shaking her head and speaking softly in an emotionally indecipherable manner, “you are all excused for the rest of the day, let’s go.”

As they left the campus, Madam Dubois informed them that while Frederick was unaffected, Thomas had earned a suspension, and while they didn’t want to expel Lydia because she had top marks in all of her classes, they thought that it might be best to seek another avenue of education for her, something that was more suited to her personal needs, and so began the long line of tutors that would further Lydia’s education up until she turned thirteen and chose self study as her primary means of gaining knowledge.

Frederick had learned the details of what happened from Thomas because while he was horribly entertained by it all, Lydia had been completely mortified by her actions but as they trailed along behind their mother, Frederick wrapped his arm around her shoulders and hugged her to him, smiling to her and giving a firm nod when she looked up at him questioningly. Frederick was proud. He wrapped his other arm around Thomas even though he protested and squeezed them both at his sides, though his actions were quiet, he didn’t want their mother to get mad.

Chenglei flinched again as Kenren bit down harder, clenching his dazed eyes for a moment before opening them. "Y-Yea, I'm feelin' it..."He gulped, cheeks and ears turning red. Then he nodded, shyly confirming his thoughts into reality as he hid his face in the crook of Kenren's shoulder and neck. He left a light peck there.

"Yea, I'm al'ight wit dis. Thought it over an' yea, we can kiss..." The blonde mumbled before leaning back a bit, just a centimeter away from the Prince's lips with his own. Dazed ash purple eyes gazed into his own as he leaned in slowly and puckered his own subtle pink lips to shyly kiss Kenren's. His hands gently cupping his cheeks before trailing down and behind his neck and back. Arching his back for their chests to touch; his heart beating can be felt through his shirt.

-Renee Pendragon-

Renee raised an eyebrow when she noticed James by the door and shook her head, smiling in amusement. She somehow squeezed through the door, giggling at her older brother before setting the tray of sandwiches, drinks, chips, and fruits with cream as a side onto the outdoor round table that's nearby the fireplace for Calcifer. "I got the snacks, Mum. Dad." She mentioned.

Then the Pendragon teen sat down on the grass next to Lydia, her smile grew as she looked up at the flying pod of whales. Her orange eyes looked like they were glowing as she stared at the creatures like she aspires to fly too.

It's something she always wanted to do ever since her father first transformed long time ago when he needed to get one of the twins down from the castle, being as Seth was stuck there for some odd reason. Prank gone wrong, she guessed but Renee always wanted and wished to have wings...

Well the wings she has now are small but she's determined to have bigger wings someday with her dad's spell and fly away.

"Aww. It's a family! That's so cute!" Renee exclaimed; her wings flapped for a moment before setting themselves on her head again.

-A Day Out-
A surprised squeak slipped from her, almost as though James had squeezed it out when he lifted her up, her own arms moving around him to hold on as they spun. Her heart was racing as she hugged him tightly, her eyes squeezing shut as she smiled happily, "J-James!" she giggled against his neck, the sound coming in short little gasps as she lost her breath after awhile of his endless declarations. She wasn't entirely sure how she should take his words, but by the time he put her down again, she was just as breathless as he and her face was bright red, she also found that her hands were having a difficult time letting go of James as her fingers had curled around the collar of his robes.

The gaze of those large green eyes drifted from James and away bashfully, a demure smile set on her subtly stained lips as she held her forehead against James', he could probably sense the longing ache that Lydia was experiencing by the expression on her face and the way her thumbs rubbed the fabric of his robes, and if not he definitely felt it when he once again placed his fingers against her lips and kissed the other side because as she drew in a deep breath and held it, her lips pressed back against the side of his fingers that touched them as her eyes closed and her grip on his collar tightened slightly.

-A Day Out-
With the expression Lydia had on her face when they finally parted, one would think that they had actually kissed. She released a somewhat content though disappointed sigh when James withdrew, her eyes fluttering open to look at him, a smile falling over her lips though she quickly averted her gaze in embarrassment. She giggled and nodded, "you're so silly," she nuzzled his hand a minute before moving to sit, pleasantly surprised by James' chivalry as he saw her to her seat before he took his own. She thought it was sweet that he brought his chair to sit beside her and every now and then would gently graze his arm or his hand and she was delighted by his actions, a bashful smile being returned each time his gaze met hers.

She blinked a few times as she looked at him when he asked about what kind of cats they would be if they were cats and then told him about the painting she had seen in the hallways of the keep at Holt, describing to him how like their group the animals in the picture had been and telling him about each animal and who it reminded her of, ending with the sleek black cat that had reminded her of him and how there was a smaller black cat that almost looked like an owl because its ears were flattened and it had really big green eyes. She laughed in embarrassment and covered her face slightly before saying that she guess they would be like those cats.

She did look perplexed as he talked about the different sounds that the cats made depending on the culture and laughing slightly, "I never really thought about it before... but in Frankia it's 'miaou.'"

" Kenren Taisho "

That night as they huddled for warmth again, Kenren turned slowly, careful not to wake his lightly snoring mother, then wrapped his arms around Chenglei's shoulders and snuggled into his back. He pulled him close, rubbing down his shoulder and hand gently as though to put him to sleep.

He parted his hair and kissed his nape without a sound. "Good night, Chenglei." he whispered comfortably.

"Good night, Cheng --- "

"Renee's arrow flare! South east, right under the grove!" yelled a soldier.

Kenren sat bolt upright. He wasn't in the well, he was inside his tent, on his cot. It was daytime. He was in their camp on the Sea King's shrine. He rubbed his face and strode out of the tent with bed hair. "Don't signal them!" he ordered his men, who did as he said.

He blinked and looked around. His dream had felt so real, he thought he was holding Chenglei again. Chenglei who wasn't here. It's been years since he held him while he slept. Six years . . . His heart hurt. As he gave orders sending out spies to secretly check out Renee and Seifer and see if indeed their sealing cuffs were broken, his thoughts went out to that man who saved him nine years ago, and wondered if he still had feelings for him, or if he indeed had moved on to another. That didn't matter, for as soon as he's crowned emperor, he was going to woo him again. Woo, and hold him in his arms and have a cucumber jalapeno salad.

-Chenglei Zhou-

Chenglei is roaming around the grand castle of Izanagi and Isanami, unable to sleep that night as memories from the past fluttered around in his thoughts. It's rather torturous, to think of the first time Kenren and him met now of all times, especially since he's trying to stay level headed from the information of the prophecy he just learned earlier tonight. It's such a heavy topic and he's too withdrawn to be thinking about the possibilities.

Yet he couldn't help but think of him. Of Kenren. The Prince is always on his mind and he will never voice his real thoughts as he swore to the King that he'd let Kenren go so he can fulfill his dream; In front of him too so that the prince knows he means it. That doesn't stop his memories flooding by when they do as it's a tormenting comfort. It just makes things harder for him to function sometimes.

There's a chance he'd avoid James, Johnny, and Serena tomorrow as he rather not lose face in front of them.

The blonde sighed and looked up at the night sky, pondering about something before...

"Ya bettah be sleepin' an' eatin' after takin' breaks, ya workaholic prince." Chenglei whispered into the night, staring at the giant and bright moon, smiling a bit awkwardly. Then that smile was wiped away from his face as he looked on, leaning on one of the giant red pillars at the entrance, taking a deep breathe only to hitch. His shoulders hunched up a bit as he slowly slid down to the ground and curl up into a ball, still staring at the sky.

His eyes are a bit teary as his heart twinged with pain.

Kenren might not love him anymore, but he still will do his best to supporting him when he becomes emperor. As he promised to do long time ago when they were only fifteen. When they first started to like each other...

That night Chenglei didn't go to sleep, letting his memories rule over his mind for tonight as he just wants to remember the best times of his life; All of them with Kenren and his gentle loving smile.

Lydia nodded and laughed as well, "if you knew Empress, you'd know it was quite fitting."

Blinking at him curiously when he asked her to 'miaou' again, she laughed and did so, giggling more when he responded and rubbing her cheek against his shoulder like she was a cat.

She giggled joyously at the pictures, delighted with how they turned out but embarrassed at how she looked in most of them, her eyes widening as she came to the one of her sleeping, which didn't surprise her too much since she had already seen the ones of everyone else and so it was to be expected, she looked to James, quirking an awkward smile, "well... at least I'm not drooling?" she said it was okay for him to keep it, it wasn't the first time anyone in the group had seen her sleeping and she had slept in the same tent as James before too so while it was a strange position to be caught in, at least she wasn't indecent.

The whole dinner had been enjoyable and she was glad that she could have made James as happy as he seemed. She went to sleep smiling, thinking about more things she could do in the future to make him equally as happy if not more so, than he was that night.

- Third Meeting -

"Oh, thank goodness, we made it!" said James, leaning against the wall. "Up here fellows!" There was the sound of many steps coming up the stairs, and what seemed to be boys around James' age came up to enjoy the view. They greeted Mr. and Mrs. Pendragon politely and everybody else, thanking Renee for the drinks. "Cervo Venire. Choutte Venire."

Frey the white stag and what seemed to be a small ghostly owl appeared out of a puff of cloud. Frey cantered over to the side and sat on his rump, looking up at the whales, while the owl soared around hooting happily. Lydia had probably noticed this owl. During James' absence, it often flew into the window of his tower, then left with something in its beak; or it rapped its beak on the window of the dining room to deliver a letter to Mrs. Pendragon or Renee. And one time, perhaps she could be mistaken, it was pretending to be perched with its back outside her window, but every now and then it would secretly pretend to preen its feathers and then just look into her room before flying off.

James looked for a place to sit and sat beside Lydia. His friends followed suit and he introduced her. "Guys, this is Lydia, my dad's apprentice. Lydia this is Hughes, Bujette, Lewis, Johnny, Felix, and Gregory."

"Hey." said the guys in all manner of greeting. They seemed to be from different races: one had wolf ears and a bushy tail, one had sheep horns and four ears, another looked ordinary except he seemed to wear clothing made of fur, leaves, plant fiber, and twigs, and another had hair that was slightly on fire, though this seemed to be a normal thing as he nobody seemed to be bothered.

The boys also summoned their summons, and soon the balcony was full of strange creatures that ranged from a giant ram to a tree that was walking around. Howl and Sophie were happy to have guests and invited them all to sit wherever they choose.

"Are your friends coming over too, Renee?" James asked his sister.

Renee smiled at her brother's friends, nodding at them. "You're welcome! Let me know if you want more and I'll whip some up for you guys." She waved at Johnny awkwardly as he's the only one she recognized mostly; probably because James studied with him in their home. That and his reaction whenever she started to talk with him...

It's the most strangest reaction she ever gets from him, so she tries her best to not go near him and let him be comfortable.

Then she patted Frey's shoulder and greeted Sasha with a 'hoot'.

The winged teen turned to her brother with a wide grin; wings fluttering. "One of them is. She's coming over soon." She sounded happy at the prospect before going downstairs again to get more drinks and snacks for the summons too. "I'll be right back!"

"Only one?" said one of James' friends, Gregory. He sounded disappointed.

"Thank goodness." sighed the boy with four ears, Johnny.

"Oh, look! Balaenoptera bonaerensis!" said James distractedly pointing at one of the whales in the distance that was making its mysterious whale call. It was a brown one, with streaks of a paler color on its sides. He rummaged his bags and pulled out a book that had toilet paper sticking out from many of its pages, it was entitled: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

In the background, the twins, who seem to be friends with James friends, were regaling some of the boys about their latest adventures. Sen and Seth, those charming, witty, personable, and mischievous duo, whose latest prank had been stringing up all of Lydia's socks, brassiere and derriere together, tying it at the back of a broom like a flag, then flying around Kingsbury while singing the national anthem, were telling them about how so and so dared them to do this and that and so they took some of their friends out on a midnight joyride on someone's motorbike on the train tracks --- while the train was right behind them. So now Mrs. Pendragon had grounded them for the rest of the summer, but that was alright, since the twins were working on something ground breaking: waterproof fireworks.

"We're panning on selling it for fourteen gold!" said Sen.

"And a high-five." said Seth.

"Quiet you two." said James, still watching the whales.

"Naw, you'll miss us when you're off to school, brother dear." said Sen, or was it Seth?

"Why would I miss you, we live in the same house?"

"Correction, you live in your room."

"Hermit. Hermit James, but don't worry, we'll come and bother you everyday until you get sick and chase us out and finally get some exercise."

"I'm touched that you care." said James dryly.

"Of course, because we wove you." said the twins in sick sweet voices.

"Well, you'll be happy to know the feeling's mutual. I too love me the way you do."

-Third Meeting-
While she had been prepared to go back intently relaxing and watching the sky, she tensed up at the sound of extra sets of feet climbing the stairs and raised herself from the ground slightly, propping up on her elbows as her wide green eyes looked to the doorway curiously. She hadn't been around magic folk before, only those that lived in Master Howl's castle so anyone knew was like a new discovery to her. Though she was momentarily distracted by James' summoning of Frey and she smiled brightly to him before tilting her head slightly and quirking a thoughtful smile as the little owl appeared, "I think I know you..." she said in a somewhat amused voice and looked to James, "this is another of your summons?"

Her eyes stayed on James as he sat beside her, her brows raising slightly, but she didn't scoot away or anything and just smiled to him, giving the same smile with an attached greeting to each of his friends. Then came the questions. She asked all manner of questions about their heritage, what types of magic they specialized in, what it was like for each of them to grow up with magic, and lastly she asked the one whose hair was partially on fire if it was hot and if she could touch it.

Lydia's attention was only deterred when they called their summons. Her enthusiasm was likely unmatched by any they had witnessed before as she seemed to have entirely forgotten all about the sky whales and was much more interested in James' friends and their summons, asking their names and how long it took to summon them and what rank they were. A lot of what she asked about had been categories that James talked with her about when she first met Frey. Every answer she received was absorbed thoughtfully and excitedly, as if it was the best thing she had ever heard and she obviously delighted in the knowledge she was gaining, her little hands clasped together tightly.

Eventually she realized what she was doing and how uncomfortable she was probably making everyone, her green eyes widening as her face flushed crimson and she swiftly shied away from all of them, muttering sheepishly as she looked to the ground, her gaze hidden beneath the veil of her black hair, "I-I-I'm s-sorry... I-I've never... um.. been... um.. around magic folk before... only the Pendragons," her hands went behind her back and her feet shuffled against the ground shamefully, she cast a brief glance to Master Howl, hoping that her curiosity hadn't embarrassed him.

What might have perturbed the twins more for their prank was the fact that Lydia didn't seem all that bothered by it. The only ones that really knew whose undergarments those belonged to were few and it wasn't like the twins were singing that they belonged to Lydia Dubois and it was okay because she retaliated by filling all of their shoes with jello. She shook her head as they told the other boys of their antics and laughed at the exchange between James and the twins.

-Third Meeting-

Renee's voice was becoming loud from the staircase and then she laughed about something. Someone with really firm heels is clopping up the stairs with Renee's quiet pats from her bare feet.

"A-are you sure my antlers are okay?"

"Yes, Echo. Your antlers won't get stuck this time. I asked dad if the hallways can be a bit wider."

"Ren, you shouldn't demand such things-!"

"I wasn't! It's just asking and he was fine with it."

"You are unbelievable, I swear you are."

"So?"

The second voice sighed as the two girls finally reached the top; Renee was carrying another tray filled with goodies for the summons to pick and munch on with water to drink while standing-or more like hiding behind the tiny Pendragon- is a satyr of sorts. With antlers more than a foot high and wide with potted plants hanging as decorations and really red fluffy legs with hard hooves as feet. The satyr - or fawn as Lydia might have read somewhere about her race and their gender specifics- was way taller then any of the females there.

The red head waved timidly at everyone while Renee introduced her. "This is Echo. She's my best friend and Echo, this is Lydia, she's my dad's apprentice and that's Johnny and-" She just introduced everyone.

"He-hello." Echo muttered before sitting somewhere near the summons, possibly feeling a lot more comfortable with them as she asked the other summoners what do they eat and such and such.

Hoot, piped the little owl as it fluttered around them, landing on Renee's tray to dip its beak in one of the mugs and peck on a sandwich.

"Mm, she's my messenger owl." nodded James, "I'll take the mug and sandwiches Sasha's eating, Renee." he added to his sister as Mrs. Pendragon got a snack for Rhea. The owl landed breezily on the grass as James tore a piece of the sandwich and pushed it to her side of the plate. The owl delicately picked it up, careful not to get dressing on her talons, and ate it standing on one leg.

His friends were very amused with Lydia, "Is this some sort of interview?" chuckled Lewis. He, Gregory, and Hughes told her that they were apprentices in the Sorcerer's Academy. They specialized in conjuration but in different specific areas.

"I'm from the wolf clan." said Gregory impressively, the one who wore clothing made of fur, leaves, and twigs. "That's my guardian spirit, Shadow," he pointed at a large black wolf with a patch of white fur on one paw that was curled up and snoozing beside one of Renee's trees on the balcony. "I grew up in the Fryzor Timberlands, my parents are druids and our magic comes from communing with spirits, like this." he placed his palm on the grass and muttered something in a different language. Very slowly, mushrooms started growing until there were three tall stalks.

"I don't think that shows the spirits very well, Greg." said Hughes, whose hair was slightly on fire.

"Oh! Well, you can't really see the spirits, but they're there."

"Smooth. Really smooth. Anyway, I'm a balor, Lydia. That's French for hot man." he grinned, that grin that only guys who know they're handsome grin, and he let her touch his hair.

Lewis snorted. "Hughe's a fire nymph. He lives in a volcano."

"Which you have to admit, is pretty cool. My flames don't hurt if I don't want them to, Lydia." Hughes went on. "You can guess what my conjuration specialty is ---- fire!" his hand shot upwards. And from a burst of flames a very large will-o-wisp appeared right above them cackling merrily.

"Guys, don't block the view." said James, getting up to move somewhere else, as his other friends talking with the twins complained too. More of the skywhales were passing now; Hoot said the owl sternly at them as though to emphasize that point, and hopped on to the plate.

"Boo, party pooper." said Hughes, unsummoning his wisp. "Why you reading? Talk here and stay with us."

"No."

"Boring."

"What? Scared to talk to a pretty girl all by yourselves that much?" smirked James.

"I'm not the one moving away, Jamsey Waisey."

"It's just I can't stand seeing you with another Hughesikins." said James dramatically.

"Oh, James, fret not mon petit chou-chou, you will always be my best girl." he winked. James just shook his head laughing.

"Well, that makes me relieved." James sat next to his friend who had sheep horns and four ears. Hughes, Lewis, and Gregory resumed chatting with Lydia telling her that yes it's kind of weird to be asked so many questions, but they didn't mind, it was normal for someone who didn't know magic. In fact they were very interested in Lydia not very magical home-town. The boys had grown up with magic like it was the air they breathe, and to not have magic at all was very, very alien.

When Renee came up with her friend, James greeted her with a casual nod and a, "Hey, Echo."

Felix, Johnny, and Bujette, who were listening to the twins greeted her too, though the one with sheep horns just politely nodded stiffly, gulped, then looked away. Bujette was telling Echo about how they ate ordinary food like every other creature, but then Felix, the one with wolf ears and a bushy tail pointed at her antlers. "Oh! I've seen you at school. I've always wanted to know, why do you hang pots on your antlers? And why do you have antlers even though you're a girl?"

One of the summons, a big ram that was grazing on the grass next to a duck summon with a top hat and a leek for cane, looked up interestedly in the conversation, just as the twins greeted Echo too and then continued on about their story of this one time they pranked someone turning their mango into a flamingo.

Lydia looked at Sasha thoughtfully, smiling slightly, though the few times she had actually seen the little owl outside of her window made her wonder why and she looked at James curiously for a moment before she had been distracted by his unusual appearing friends.

She wanted to tell Lewis that it wasn't an interview and started to do so, her hands out in front of her and shaking from side to side as she shook her head, but then she realized that it kind of was and laughed bashfully before explaining where she was from and what it was like there so that they would understand where her enthusiasm and curiosity was coming from.

She listened with noted interest as Gregory explained his heritage and talked about his summon, crouching as he placed his palm on the ground and listening carefully to his words, her green eyes wide with expectation as she watched the ground and looked to him joyously when the mushrooms grew like it was the best thing she had ever seen. She looked to Hughes as he commented and smiled, looking back to Gregory and smiling sincerely, "I think that it shows the spirits very well... you called them and they appeared as mushrooms, right? Spirits can appear as anything, can't they?"

She rose again as Hughes introduced himself and narrowed her eyes on him momentarily. She was pretty sure Balor wasn't French at all, French was derived from Frankish and that was her native tongue. She let it go though because she figured he was just teasing, but mainly because he let her touch his hair, which she did so, cautiously approaching with the flat of her hand and looking to Lewis a moment, her eyes widening as she looked back to Hughes with a shocked expression, "A volcano?!"

She nodded her agreement that it was indeed 'cool,' though maybe not in the literal sense. Definitely not in the literal sense. She had parted her fingers to let the flames of his 'hair' pass through them though her hand was jerked back as she flinched when his hands shot up in the air and he summoned a wisp. She laughed happily, her hands clasping together, each new magic ability she was shown as she spent more time in the castle amazed her just as much as the last and she always looked forward to more demonstrations.

She pouted slightly when Hughes received the complaints from the whale watchers and nodded her head, "s-sorry..." though she blinked and blushed when James teased Hughes about talking to a pretty girl by himself before she shook her head and listened to the rest of their exchange, laughing slightly before addressing Hughes again, "donc vous parlez français... I thought you were joking!" Lydia enjoyed the exchanged information about their upbringings, but she declined to tell them anything very personal or embarrassing, such as how the other people in the city saw her.

When Renee returned with her friend, Lydia took to the new addition with as much interest as the others, excusing herself from their conversation to go and greet her as Renee introduced her before she began asking her the same questions she had asked James' friends, nodding and looking to Echo with anticipation as Felix asked his own questions.

-Third Meeting-

Renee sat next her flustered friend, watching her lean towards the large ram when Felix suddenly pointed her antlers. Echo's perked up ears folded back as her green eyes went from Bujette to Felix, stuttering. "O-Oh...um...I hang pots on my antlers b-because of...um.."

"Because she needs some of them for class at school." Renee said casually. Echo nodded quickly, ears perking up now. Her pots moving around. "Yes, I need them for school. As for why I have antlers...I don't know. It's a rare family trait too so...my mother had antlers." She said, smiling shyly. Then she blinked a lot when Lydia asked her so many questions. One ear folded back as the other stayed up.

"...I live in a satyr town called Dawnsfield. It's a field with trees around it and I just need to take a train to get to Kingsbury. My family is more hands-on with things like blacksmithing and farming. I have a cousin who makes clothes for a living. You might have seen some of her designs floating around here. It's the ones with a hoof print and a flower on it as a brand mark. As for my magic..." Echo stood up from her spot and tapped her hoof on the ground, her face became focused as if she's measuring how much manna she's pouring.

Then the grass around the girls and the summons grew longer, more luscious and greener, the small dandelions became more fluffy and larger in height; almost as tall as Renee's braid which reached down to her shoulder. It's almost like they were on a grassy soft and cooling bed cushion with the way they sank in a bit. The Pendragon teen took advantage of it and just laid down, hands behind her head now as she smiled, pleased and comfortable.

"My magic is based on nature. I can grow plants."

"Which is really cool. Sometimes she has the biggest herbs and fruits in our herbalogy class that it's insane. I still remember that one time you brought in a Screecher. Goodness, my ears still ring till this day because of how loud that thing was." Renee looked at Lydia.

"A Screecher is a nut bush that makes a very high pitch sound. The nuts itself are perfect for paralysis potions. It's not as bad as the mandrakes since we don't need earmuffs for it but it does cause temporary deafness if you hear it too much. Normally it's this small," She put finger on her leg, right under her knee. "But then Echo brought one in that's this big." Her finger went up to her hip. "Never again, Echo."

"I said I was sorry." Echo replied, pouting a bit with a bit of a blush. "I thought it was fine."

"You were deaf by the time you came into class!" Renee exclaimed, sounding really amused. Her wings fluttered. The fawn looked over at Lydia, smiling sheepishly. "So Lydia...how is it, living with the Pendragon's I mean?"

"Whoopee!" yelled the twins, dive bombing the grass.

As the girls were talking, the boy with the sheep horns, Johnny, tugged James' sleeve nervously and whispered something to him. James nodded, and the two made a wide beeline around the girls, then clambered up the tree beside the sleeping direwolf to check out the whales from a higher vantage point.

"Oh, James, Johnny, be careful." said Mrs. Pendragon, worriedly.

"We will, Mrs. Pendragon!" said Johnny. He had an English accent.

"Up! Up!" squealed Rhea.

"You'd like to join your big brother too?" said Howl, smiling at his daughter. Rhea shook her head.

"Up! Up!" she made curly gestures above her head.

"Oh, you want antlers! Well, why not ask big sister Echo for them?"

"Okay!" she hopped off her mother's lap and skipped over to the fawn. She waited politely after she and Lydia were speaking, hands behind her back, then tugged at Echo's skirt.

Renee squawked in surprise when the twins dived into the grass, making it bounce a bit. She pouted at them. Wings puffing up. "Careful!"

Echo looked down when she felt a tug from her skirt; her smile grew a bit when she realized who was tugging. "Yes?" She asked, her tone gentle and sweet.

Listening intently to the answers she and Felix were given, gasping slightly and running her hand over the freshly grown grass, "that's so amazing. You all are so amazing!" she looked a little timid then and rubbed her arm slightly, "I... I don't really know my specialty yet... I guess it's just learning for now..." she hadn't even been sure if she would actually be able to cast the first time she tried to and it had left her with a huge sense of relief that she had successfully, though not without malfunction, set off a spell.

She placed a hand to her cheek in disbelief, "it's still hard for me to process that there is actually a school where you can learn magic... I haven't been in school for..." she looked up thoughtfully, counting on her fingers slightly, "seven years... only self study... that is until Master Howl accepted me as his apprentice!"

She watched the boys as they climbed up the tree, tilting her head to the side slightly before she lay back on the nice fluffy grass Echo had just grown. Since everyone seemed to have settled in and she had her curiosity sated for the time being, she was content to just watch the whales again, looking like she had just had a filling meal, happy as can be.

"One Shot"
Part I

Victor Artorias Varnham the Third, sixteen years of age and heir to the Voyager Mining Company which not only held claims on land rich in useful minerals, but also refined those minerals into small but necessary tools needed in crafting and building alike. With a desire to expand his company and increase his profits, Mister Varnham the Second put the word out with his contacts about seeking new prospects and through these contacts he was informed that there were mining plots being auctioned in Frankia and after some research on the area, he bid on the plots and once won, began the process of establishing a factory and business relationships with the locals in the factory city of Bourgeaus.

Of course Monsieur Dubois, proprietor of Dubois’ Foot Finery, saw the necessity of developing a partnership with Mister Varnham, being that Voyager Mining and Co. produced the small metal grommets necessary for many of the models of footwear crafted by his company as well as other necessary parts for holding together the more sturdy pieces. Being business minded, Monsieur Dubois had been present for the auction and through calculated maneuvering, learned of Mister Varnham’s stakes in the business world and his company’s specialty so after he struck up a conversation with the man and learned his intentions, he saw fit to throw a welcoming party for him once his family had relocated.

On the night of the party at the manor of Monsieur Dubois, Mister Varnham arrived with his wife and eight-year-old daughter as well as the heir to his empire, the last of which let the Dubois’ family know that he preferred to be called Artur to save being confused with his father. Artur was a genial lad and the two Dubois’ sons took to him quite fondly, Thomas being only a year older than him while Frederick was generally fairly easy going and pleasant to talk to, though both of them did notice that Artur was rather nitpicky when it came to his appearance and could often be noticed adjusting his clothing or flicking a ball of lint from his person.

The youngest of the Dubois siblings was late as usual, though her tardiness didn’t diminish her splendor any as she appeared in the ballroom wearing a bustled corset gown with slightly puffy chiffon sleeves that hugged her shoulders, a sloping neckline that was equally as curved along her upper back as it was across the front, spanning her chest just below her collarbones. The whole of the gown was an off-white, almost golden color with lace and beads sewn in uniform order on various parts of the dress to accentuate it. There were also small, fake roses sewn into the dress in a few places, each was colored a very soft pink and she also wore one of these roses set on a piece of lace pinned in her hair slightly askance atop a bundle of neatly placed black curls, some of which were allowed to hang freely about her doll-like face which was decorated delicately in shades of soft pink.

She looked coy the way she held her lacy pink fan to slightly obscure the view of her face as her green eyes looked around searchingly, seeming scared to make eye contact with anyone. Though her timidity didn’t seem to have an effect on Artur as Lydia’s brothers both noticed that he seemed to be quite taken with her. Thomas laughed. Thomas always laughed. Frederick nudged him and shook his head before turning his attention back to Artur and trying to divert the teen’s attention away from his sister.

Artur didn’t know Lydia and he hadn’t been in Bourgeaus long enough to learn anything about the Dubois. Lydia only knew her duty to the family and the reason she was required to attend these parties even though she really had rather not. No one approached her and she easily made her way through the guests and to her family, curtseying gracefully as she reached them, “Mister and Misses Varnham,” she bowed her head and fanned herself with all the elegance that is expected of a young lady her age in this particular society and the Varnhams seemed impressed.

“Ah. Here she is, this is my daughter, Lydia,” Monsieur Dubois said proudly, though there was something in his blue eyes that was there and gone in an instant, “ Lydia, these are Mister and Misses Varnham’s children, Claudia and Artur,” he gestured to both of them in turn. Claudia was looking at Lydia like she had never seen anything like her before, her large blue eyes blinking beneath a line of carefully trimmed blonde fringe before her mouth opened and she asked Lydia if she was a princess.

Lydia blushed and giggled behind her fan, this gesture, while it was not intended, seemed to have an effect on Artur, one which her parents noticed but didn’t say anything to deter him. Frederick tried to casually steer Artur away, suggesting that they go to the family’s game room and play a round of pool, but it was too late and Artur was already slipping away from him and nearer to Lydia, holding his hand out to her, “Miss,” he stooped into a charming bow and Lydia looked to Frederick, trying not to let her emotions play out on her face. Her brother knew exactly what she was asking and closed his eyes resignedly, nodding a single time. Thomas smiled behind his glass as Lydia hesitantly accepted Artur’s hand before he gently kissed hers and rose again, “may I –“

“Perhaps a game of charades might be more interesting than pool, Artur?” Frederick interjected, placing his arm around Artur’s shoulder and urging him away and before he could respond, Lydia added, “o-oh yes! Charades!”

Artur had looked somewhat disappointed at first, but at Lydia’s enthusiasm he smiled and assented, “very well then, if the lady wishes to play Charades, Charades it is,” and he offered his arm to the lady in question who very coquettishly accepted it, hiding her face behind her fan as she cast Frederick a grateful though slightly panicked glance. Frederick’s lips pursed slightly and he nodded a few times, pressing his hand against the small of her back to urge her on with Artur as he followed behind, collecting the hand of his fiance on the way to the game room. Thomas set his glass down on the tray of a nearby server and followed along behind them all, jubilantly.

Several guests of the party were entertaining themselves in the game room either by playing pool, darts, some even entertained themselves with a Ouija board, and there were still others beyond the large glass doors that led outside to a well-lit grassy area playing a game of Blindman’s Bluff, “we are about to play a game of Charades!” announced Thomas in a loud and somewhat haughty voice, incurring the fiery glare of Frederick while Lydia grimaced behind her fan. Thomas smiled, “would anyone like to join?”

“Ooh! Ooh! I would!” A girl around the age of the younger of those that had entered the game room, with strawberry blonde hair woven up in waves and decorated by a white rose and baby’s breath, waved her hand girlishly and raised her skirt slightly as she scurried over, another girl with dark brown hair that seemed uninterested but followed along and their blonde friend clad all in blue and seemed shy but eager. Next a young man around Frederick’s age spoke up that he would join and brought along a younger woman that was evidently his sister. A group of rambunctious teen boys snuck up behind Thomas, one of them jumping on his back while three more ruffled his hair, poked at his sides, or mocked his earlier announcement before making the decision to join in.

Because there was an even number of people, Thomas wickedly wanted to pair everyone up, but Frederick immediately put an end to that idea and made the decision to create two groups of players and had everyone draw straws, assigning everyone to their team based on whether they drew evens or odds. For odds, he and his fiancé Amelie, Lydia, Artur, the strawberry blonde girl, and two of Thomas’ friends while Thomas, the strawberry blonde’s two friends, Thomas’ other two friends and the brother and sister who were named Louis and Odette, were evens.

There were two large couches and some chairs around a long coffee table in the center of the game room, the table was set with refreshments and to the side of the couches there was a short raised area that acted as a stage for games like the one they were about to play. Frederick brought out a basket, a small pad of paper, and a wooden box that contained an ink well and quill and set the items up on a small round table next to the stage, all of the players wrote down a phrase, song title, book, poem; anything that could be acted out and after folding up the papers put them into a basket. Then Frederick mixed up the papers and it was time for the first player to pick a piece of paper and act out whatever was on it.

Lydia sat on the end of the couch her team claimed nearest the stage, Artur sitting beside her, and the strawberry blonde who had introduced herself specifically to Artur as Loretta, sat on his other side. Artur didn’t seem very interested in Loretta and would simply give her a polite nod or a soft snort of amusement though his attention would again be focused on the raven haired girl on his left. Amelie was on the other side of Loretta and was trying her best to keep the girl from talking with the Varnham heir, even bringing Frederick in on the conversation every now and then but it seemed that Loretta was only distracted from Artur when something about fashion was brought up.

Artur attempted to get to know Lydia a little better, asking her questions like what her hobbies were and where she liked to vacation but the young woman was a timid creature and so Artur didn’t receive many answers though he did find her elusiveness quite charming. Soon Artur stopped with his questions, giving Lydia a somewhat eager and amused smile despite the fact that she had turned her back towards him. Soon everyone had quit their conversations as Thomas’ friend Rupert took the stage as the first player up.

-Lydia's Viewpoint-
“Just a little longer! I promise!”

Lydia knew what time it was. She knew what time the party started. Both of these things didn’t matter as she called to her mother’s ladies when they knocked on the library’s locked doors, trying to get Lydia to come out so they could help her get dressed. Lydia was on the verge of a break through. She had been translating a book that had been recorded in arcane runes and she had been stuck on one particular section. Runework fascinated her and since she didn’t exactly have someone ready to teach her to read them, she had to teach herself through translation. She didn’t want to stop because she felt so close to success that if she stopped now it would be like having to start all over when she returned to it. Just a few more moments, that’s all she needed.

By the time she had finished, she was already late for the party and upon exiting the library, the female servants that Madam Dubois had sent to collect her were so flustered that they basically shoved Lydia all the way down the hall and to her room. Hurriedly they dressed her in the fashionable attire her mother had chosen and Lydia peaceably allowed them to do so. She preferred black when she was choosing her own attire because it left more time for so many other things, but for the parties that her parents threw, since her mother would match everything beforehand, she didn’t argue and just let the Dubois matron dress her as she saw fit.

The ladies all gave their little gasps of delight once Lydia’s outfit was complete before they ushered her to the ballroom, giving her the last piece, a lacy pink hand fan. Lydia flipped it open, not that she would really need it. She gave a sigh as she watched the women leave her and looked over her clothing a moment. She hadn’t even really had a chance to see herself in the mirror and her face took on a sullen expression, though the fact that she hadn’t seen the completed project wasn’t what saddened her, it was the fact that there was little point to it because anyone that looked her way knew who she was, the manufacturing society was close-knit after all.

The sooner she reached her parents and made the appearance they had requested her to make, the better. The moment she entered the room, she began searching for them, though if anyone looked her way she shifted her gaze and hid behind her fan, her brow furrowed slightly as she caught the sound of Thomas’ laugh, but she smiled in relief behind her fan and hurried over to her family.

Lydia summoned up every ounce of elegance she had in her just to make a fitting greeting to Mister Varnham and his wife. She knew how important it was for her father that she make a good impression and despite the fact that the young man, whom her father introduced as Mister Varnham’s son Artur, made her really uncomfortable with how he was looking at her, she did her best to be the lovely young woman her parents asked her to be. She had caught the odd glimmer in her father’s eye that basically begged that she not do anything strange and how it disheartened her was easily hidden by her fan, though the way the Varnham’s daughter, was looking at her was a bit distracting and as the little girl asked her if she was a princess, Lydia couldn’t help but blush and giggle behind her fan, though she managed to maintain a pure maiden’s appearance to the Varnhams, behind the fan she grimaced slightly, feeling like she was playing a trick on them.

She hadn’t noticed Artur stirring on account of her gesture and by the time she looked in his direction, he was already heading towards her. Her gaze shifted to Frederick in panic as she saw that he had been trying to lure Artur away to no avail. Her parents smiled approvingly, their thoughts plainly written on their faces. She should have known that her parents had an alternate agenda, and considering it was so rare that someone new came into the city and didn’t have a chance to get to know anyone and learn about the strange Dubois sister it shouldn’t have surprised her that they didn’t try to dissuade Artur.

Frederick however, was like her protector and she felt bad for him being in such a difficult position. On one hand he wanted to please his parents and brighten the Dubois name in the eye of the public that much was shown by his own engagement to Amelie Bowing heiress of the Bowing String Company. On the other hand, Frederick wanted to see his sister happy. He had watched her grow and seen her in one uncomfortable situation after the other. He was the one that had taught her to stand up for herself and that what she thought and wanted meant just as much as what anyone else thought or wanted. He taught her it was okay to be who she was even though he was what most of the people in the manufacturing society would call ‘normal,’ Frederick was like their grandmother, he was comfortable living the life he was, he was happy. He saw that Lydia wasn’t suited for the same and supported her.

‘Oh no! What do I do?!’ When Lydia looked to Frederick and tried not to show her dismay and panic as Artur bowed to her and greeted her in such a gentlemanly fashion, Frederick gave her a calming nod, one that told Lydia it was alright and everything would work out, so despite her hesitation, she placed her hand in Artur’s, allowing him to gently kiss it before he began to ask her the question that she had been prepared to be asked but had also been dreading, though he was interrupted as Frederick suggested a different game. Lydia wasn’t about to waste the opportunity and so she enthusiastically agreed that a game of Charades was in order.

And so it was that one form of charade gave way to another and Lydia found herself taking the arm of the young Varnham heir as she hid her face so that only Frederick would see the slightly panicked though grateful look she gave him before he ushered her on with Artur towards the game room where Thomas and Amelie would follow, the former of which trying to make a good time out of the situation and calling in more participants to the game, drawing the ire of Frederick in the process while Lydia would only hide her expression of discomfort and terror behind her fan. The last thing she needed were people that thought her odd participating in a game that could otherwise have been beneficial to everyone. Leave it to Thomas to make a joke of everything, though she was positive she would get back at him for his interference later.

Once all of the participants had been gathered and an idea of Thomas’ for teams had been thwarted they began the process of one by one going up to the little table where the writing paper and basket were placed and writing down their challenges for acting out. Lydia sat on the couch where the other members of the odd numbered team sat and couldn’t help but notice Thomas’ and his friends’ chortling from where they sat on the couch across the way. They obviously planned sabotage and with her back to Artur, it was relatively easy to send him a deathly glare without alerting the young heir.

Lydia was in a minor state of panic. She was relatively well read even in things that had nothing to do with magic so she wasn’t too worried, she just had to try and think of something that everyone else would know for her own challenge. It was distracting having Artur sitting so closely to her because he kept trying to get her attention to ask something frivolous that Lydia had no interest in. Though her shyness proved handy because she was able to play coy and just shield her face, look away demurely and give a basic answer, which seemed to keep Artur enthralled while at the same time not press her for answers despite Loretta’s badgering.

Loretta was a well-known social butterfly and she had a reputation for being quite the opposite of Lydia. While Lydia seemed to dissuade the boys their age from talking to her, Loretta had a tendency to draw them in. In a phrase, she was everything that Lydia’s parents had hoped she would be. Though her charms didn’t seem to be working on Artur and Amelie was doing her best to keep Loretta from talking to him, of course Lydia knew that would only make her want to talk to him more and while she would like to please her parents, she had no idea how to keep his attention because she was certain that her simple answers and mysterious mannerisms wouldn’t keep him interested for long.

It was alright however, because shortly they were watching Rupert, a redhead with green eyes and chiseled jaw, step up to the platform where they would act out their challenges and drew a slip of paper from the basket that had been mixed up by Frederick after everyone had written their choices and placed them inside.

After stirring up the basket some while he looked the other way, he drew a paper out and read it studiously, snorting softly and shaking his head before he placed the slip of paper in the breast pocket of his suit coat while thoughtfully stepping up onto the platform. He stood there for a moment before the light bulb evidently switched on in his head and he signaled the players that he was ready.

Rhea pointed at Echo's antlers. "Big sister Echo, where didju get your anters and what's the-the address of the store?"

On the tree, the boy with the sheep horns glanced down at the two.

Felix, the one with wolf ears and a tail, who had been listening to Lydia, sat beside her. "You're amazing! You mean you never went to school, but you got good enough by yourself to become Mr. Pendragon's apprentice? Can you show us your magic?"

Her gaze shifted to Felix as he sat beside her and she offered a meek smile, a blush covering her cheeks as she sat up again, "w-well.. n-not really..." she said shyly, running her fingers through the grass," I... I just h-had a lot of time on my hands... so... um... I read... and studied a lot..."

The last question caused her to pause slightly. She wasn't sure if that would be a good idea because it would likely have some sort of disastrous effect. However, she was surrounded by magic users and Master Howl was there, so she looked at her master questioningly, "M-Master Howl... i-is it alright...?"

Echo melted at Rhea's question, thinking how adorable the little girl is. "I see. I got these antlers from my mother," before the little girl got sad however, the fawn added. "but if you like...I can make antlers for you? It'll be pretty with flowers too..."

Howl, who had been enjoying the flying whales, nodded at Lydia confidently. "Yes, it's alright, Lydia!" he stood up from his chair to watch her too. The boys stopped talking, and glanced at her direction to watch; Sen and Seth gave each other quick looks and both cracked evil identical grins. They got up, said something about going to the bathroom and quickly went back in the castle.

Rhea squealed in joy, "Yes! I want to have pink antlers with strawberries and petunias!" She made a gesture for Echo to pick her up. Her legs swung energetically. "Can we make them now?" she then turned to Renee. "Siiiis! Can we borrow your paint and paint-paint brushes!"

If memory served right, Rhea had a tendency to chew on the wood, dab the brush too hard that the hair would end up bent, and get everything within a five meter radius in paint.

While Lydia got ready, a window above quietly opened and a slingshot with a flailing beetle stealthily appeared. "Steady . . . steady . . ." said Sen, stifling a snicker.

Seth nodded, aiming the bug for the inside of Lydia's collar, right in that space on her back behind her neck.

"Fire!" Sen whispered.

The beetle went whizzing for the inside of her dress as she cast her spell.

Renee flinched when her baby sister asked for her paints and paintbrushes, knowing exactly what would happen should she give her sister another paintbrush. The winged teen looked at Rhea with a forced grin on her face.

"...Yea....sure...you can use them. Let me get them for you real quick." She stood up from her comfy spot on the grass bed and went downstairs to grab her most used paintbrushes. Those can be destroyed...as much as it pains Renee because those are really good brushes.

In the meanwhile, Echo chuckled and said, "Okay Rhea, wanna see a wonderful trick to have antlers? I'll show you..." The fawn sat the little girl on the grassy bed, standing up so she can walk to the tree that James and Johnny were sitting on.

"Ready to count, Rhea?" Echo asked, smiling wide at the little girl. With her count, the red head slowly walked around the tree, hidden from the little girl. "One...two..." Then when she came into view, the little girl would see tiny antlers in Echo's hands, sprouted from a wooden headband that looks comfortable to wear. It was bare with no flowers or fruits around it yet.

Then when Echo sat down next to her, she placed the headband on her head and then whispered a lyric that only Rhea can hear...

Pop!

Petunias and strawberry flowers bloomed all over the branching antlers with strawberries hanging by the sides like a draping effect. "Ta-da~...do you like it?" Echo asked the little girl as they waited for Renee to come back with the paint and brushes.
