LV-667 (Aliens-based nWoD)

Thorn Darkblade

I know lots of things. Lots of things...
Okay, folks, gonna give this one a shot again, as it was rather fun before life killed it last time:

The hypersleep tubes gave a hiss as they cracked open. One by one, the marines got up, slightly groggy. Sarge was already up, and ready to yell the marines awake. God, his missing eye was creepy. If one stared deeply enough, you could actually see the electronic components moving within it.

"Alright Marines, rise and shine! It's another glorious day in the Corps., so lock ann load, and get ready to earn your daily bread. Just got our orders in from top brass, another one of their so-called 'bug hunts' we keep hearing about, but, I wouldn't get your panties in a knot just yet."

The sergeant took a deep swig from his flask of whiskey, and grinned.

"More specifically, we're heading to LV-667. Yeah, that's right, we're going to Hell Plus One. But, last I checked, we're Marines! The best goddamn killing force I've ever laid eyes one!"

He turned on a monitor, the Weyland-Yutani logo flickering on, before the combat briefing details popped up.

"Here's what we know so far. The terraforming and mining facilities lost contact 17 days ago. Communication beacons are still operational though, so the colony is still standing. Rumor says they were studying our own personal chupacrabra, the xenomorph, but, I haven't seen a single report on these things yet...it's always the same 'a friend of a friend of my grandma's former baby-daddy' bullshit, so, until I see a goddamn bug, I'm not gonna worry."

A topographical map popped up, showing a jagged, crag and spire covered surface.

"As you can see, it is still a volcanically active planet, with steam vents creating swamps in the lowlands. Lots of native critters, so, my guess is something there got them. Or, maybe someone just forgot to wash their hands. Speaking of which, you'll all be getting your pre-drop inoculations as soon as this briefing is done. I don't want to hear any bitching about needles."

The map zoomed in, giving a detailed blueprint of the colonies.

"Standard Weyland-Yutani air processor here...the air was almost breathable when they came in, the plantlife had been working on that for a while, so, they just gave it a little boost. Colony is standard layout too. Aerial scans show a few buildings that are NOT in these blueprints though, which, as usual, is the boss-man telling us we don't need to know. We're too far to pick up the PDT's of the colonists, but, this is a rescue mission first and foremost. Are there any further questions, Marines?"

A couple more hypersleep tubes cracked open, as a few individuals who have definitely NEVER seen combat before yawned sleepily.

"Oh, yeah, this is also a babysitting mission. We're to allow a few representatives from the Company to survey the damage and recover information. I don't like it either, so make them feel welcome."

Running a sci-fi nWoD game.

All characters will be standard build +35 (I might possibly convert to God-Machine when I have a chance to read it better). The Occult skill is replaced with Archaeology.

Looking for at least 4 to start, but might have more, up to a maximum of 8, with several NPC marines as well.

Need regular posters, and also, those who are not afraid to lose a character. This is a horror setting, and if any of you have seen the movies, you shouldn't be surprised if only a handful survive.

Marine stats will gain the following bonus before any point distribution:

+1 Stamina

+1 Wits

+1 Computer

+1 Medicine (Specialty: First Aid)

+1 Athletics

+1 Brawl

+1 Drive (Specialty: APC's)

+2 Firearms (Specialty: Pulse Rifle)

+1 Survival

+1 Weaponry

Synthetics will receive the following:

+1 Dexterity

+1 Resolve OR Composure

+2 Academics

+2 Computer (Specialty: Hacking)

+1 Medicine

+1 Science

+1 Drive (Specialty: Piloting)

-Synthetics, while capable of dying, do not receive wound penalties and may function at complete efficiency until structural damage has rendered them unable to function

Weyland-Yutani Research Team members will receive the following:

+1 Intelligence

+1 Manipulation

+1 Academics

+1 Computers

+1 Investigation

+1 Medicine

+1 Archaeology

+1 Politics (Specialty: Weyland-Yutani Policies)

+1 Science (Specialty: Xenobiology)

+1 Persuasion

+1 Subterfuge (Specialty: Lying)

Gear will be detailed when the actual thread is up.

The crew of the Ixonia is a small first response assault team, consisting of a platoon of 4 Infantry Units, each unit consisting of two squads: one smartgunner with a rifleman partner, and a second group of two riflemen, armed with M41A Pulse Rifles. Each squad contains one Corporal, one Lance Corporal, and two privates/private first class. There is one sergeant in command of each unit as well, within one of the two squads, along with a vehicle specialist.

In addition to this, there is a lieutenant in charge of the whole operation, assisted by one or two synthetics. Also, aboard there are a couple employees from the Company, sent along with to investigate/protect company assets.

The crew of the U.S.S. Ixonia are as follows (those in parenthesis are additional beyond the minimum I want to start my game). You may play any role/rank aboard the Ixonia short of Sergeant or Lieutenant.

1- Flynn O'Connell, PFC (Teh Frixz)

2- Captain Hesperus (Most likely PFC again)

3- Jessica J. Sullivan, WY Field Researcher (Bardiel)

I'm in if you'll have me, I find this funny I watched Aliens yesterday.

And my character is done (save for equipment).

I'm up for vehicle specialist or if you have a space for a scientist. I'm a well-versed Aliens fan and my OOC knowledge makes the potential for IC knowledge. Regarding the RP dice system you use, I'm not familiar with it, but if you have the patience to help me work through that, I'm game for this.

Still taking on interested parties? I am not very familiar with nWoD, but I do have a PDF of the core rules that I downloaded that I can work with.

Yeah, gonna start poking interested parties shortly. This week's been hectic and I've been very sick so haven't been on much.

Okay, so, many interested parties, Frixz is back as well, now only if @Captain Hesperus and @Millershipper rejoined. I see @cremora wants to be a vehicle specialist. This is quite acceptable, every USCM platoon has a couple APC drivers and a pilot. Choice of which is yours, but, ground team would be preferable. If you wanna be a pilot though, I'm pretty sure I can find all sorts of things for a player to do. Alone. Cut off from the others. In a sci fi horror setting. <.< @Magnusar, what specifically are you thinking? As for those of you vaguely interested, toss me a character concept here and I'll add ya in the roster

While Im super interested in this, Ive never done a dice RP before so I dunno if I'd make the cut :(

World of Darkness isn't too hard, all things said. Also, if you don't make the cut, you'll at least provide a dramatic death for the others. <.<

I can do that I guess. So my best role would be the guy who gets all the ammo right before they go into a mysterious place, right?

I'll take any role you need, just to try this out and everything.

Alrighty, Compton and Cremora, gimme a little more of a concept, and I think with 4, I can at least start making the RP :D

What do you mean by a concept, like what role we'd like our character to be, or actually flesh out a character and all that fun stuff?
