Haru Rivers

Full-time DM
The town of Luthais was a wonder to behold for someone like Tenebrae. Even as he learned magic, he was never really introduced to the many creatures that secretly inhabited the world before he first traveled to Luthais two years ago. A town of magical creatures was a wonder to someone who had never seen their like before, and returning to the town after a few months in the regular world still brought him awe in a way. It was a staunch reminder that his time spent away from Luthais was time spent away from the life he had grown to love.

Tenebrae walked through the streets, looking into the windows of shops that sold things he had only dreamed of years ago. Now, they were a familiar sight. In some cases, he even knew the uses of the materials sold inside, though herbalism was never his specialty and his alchemy was only marginally better. The people in the town were generally friendly and Tenebrae enjoyed small talk with a few people he had met in years past. It was not uncommon for students to return home during the months that the University closed and catching up with friendly residents of the town was a common sight in the early weeks of classes beginning.

The grounds of Luthais were as varied as ever. Students mingled in the common areas, both inside and out, seeing as it was June. Classes were not in session, so many students elected to not remain in human form. New students for the year meant the potential for new unique students to enter the school for the first time. Most students were young for their species, though that often meant they were many times older than he. Making his way to his room was the first task on his list, his things would have been delivered by now and ready for unpacking. His room would remain the same as long as he chose to return to the University, a modest room located on the fifth floor of one of the two identical six story dorm buildings. Rooms had private bathrooms and even a small kitchen space for those capable of cooking with magic, appliances such as stoves and refrigerators were uncommon in the magical world and as such were not provided in the dorms. Common areas for study and fun were located on each floor, with rooms per floor numbering around one hundred. Floors were not separated by gender or time at the school, and as such each floor was unique and varied. New students would be placed among the more experienced students and this was likely a measured practice, ensuring that when friends were made that new students would have people to go to for help.

After getting his room set up appropriately and things unpacked to where they needed to be Tenebrae moved to one of the common areas. It seemed that most students had not made their way to their rooms yet, choosing to catch up with old friends around campus instead for a bite to eat. As, such the common room was relatively empty and quiet for lunch. In his time away from the University he had not spent much time practicing his magics, often times being in places where he could not do so. He sat and decided some small drills on evocation wouldn't be a bad idea, conjuring up four balls of pure light and energy to manipulate. It was an easy enough exercise for most, but he had always struggled with the pure energy of light. The elements were easy enough, but light seemed to evade him most of the time. It was an effort to not lose concentration and have one of the balls wink out of existence. Five had been his max last year when he had first taken Beginner Evocation, but he would have to ease back into that at this point.

September Elwyn aka Sep was sitting in one of the school's many common rooms. He had just finished setting up his room. Except in this case "setting up" means "dumped his stuff on his bed and left it there." Nevertheless, he considered that setting up his room and who are we to judge.

Since he had nothing to do he was reading a book. The irony was that he was reading Harry Potter, a book about a magical school that teaches wizards, while sitting in a magical school that teaches supernatural creatures. Yes, the irony was strong with this one.

Sep turned the page and sighed. Why did he read these things? Harry was as dumb as a sack of bricks, no doubt about it. Regardless, he kept reading because voicing his author's opinions wasn't the point of his character.

It had only been a few months since he'd applied - the blink of an eye in Altalune's lifetime, and yet ... it had been so surprisingly significant. In the time he'd spent away from the university, waiting for it to finally open and finally accept him, he twitched with the urge to enter and the hunger to learn. As June crept in, so did the twinkle of excitement, and with it, at last, came a letter. Before he knew it, Altalune had literally flown to Luthais University. He bustled about the little town in the days before his entry, filling his knapsack with useless trinkets, studying the townspeople; ever the victim of intrigue. The bag's straps threatened to snap around the influx of new paraphernalia, though its owner remained blissfully unaware. It struggled for good reason: inside that bag clattered everything Altalune has ever owned, from copper collectibles to complete novel sagas to pressed flowers to a single change of dress pants. All in all he kept his life simple and gathered closely to himself. Altalune needed very little in his life, a content wanderer by nature; it just wouldn't do to carry a horse and carriage wherever he went.

Oh, ha ha - a horse and carriage, Lou dear, like it's 1803. How quaint; and how quickly time must move by, for horse-travel to still be relevant to him. In his defense, though, he doesn't often congregate with the modern world, and the only novels he'd read of late were that of the historic variety: medieval romps in worlds the humans thought to be unreality, London mysteries full of twists and turns, the helplessly romantic poems of a bygone era. Oh... he missed that simplicity, before the having of the 'social media,' and the cult surrounding the Strange Things, and the taking of the Ubers. And long before the schoolchildren accused him of being an 'old ass man,' because he couldn't figure out the Smart Board, which was not smart at all, to be perfectly honest (he later requested to no longer volunteer for the ninth graders and secluded himself in the nearest forest. Children are so tiring).

Altalune's ineptitude in the field of modernity is in part what led him to pursue an education at Luthais, where he assumed the hip n' happenin' members of the magickal community earned their knowledge - after all, many of them arrived in heavy metal horses, which couldn't possibly be powered by anything other than magic.

But even if one of these students knew the secret to the new world, Altalune was much too shy to approach them for the sake of his pride. The Phoenixes were noble and wise creatures, and as the only representative on Earth, Altalune resigned himself to the fate of upholding their image. A mistake, of course, because over time Altalune became startlingly more stupid and human than a wise and noble Phoenix, the only identifier being his true form, and the mask of mystery that followed his human body. Humanity's culture touched him in a way he would rather not be touched by anything else ever again -- it left him soft, gentle, and protective, and by extension, vulnerable. They're all magicians too, he'd decided then, casting spells with their voices and their bodies ... so powerful they'd rendered hapless the child of the Moon.

So he tries to keep his distance, despite how interesting the humans may be.

... And what a surprise it was, when his thoughtful wandering led him from unpacking in his plain new dorm into one of the University's common rooms, and there sat a human boy, playing with light upon his fingertips like no other human Altalune had ever seen. Just a regular human. And Altalune would know at first glance - the fae and the half-men and the witches all oozed with their true aura if their disguises didn't already include some original traits, and the elves' pointed ears could be seen from miles away. This institution was a product of the magickal world, intended for the magickal world. How had a human weaseled his way inside?

More importantly, how had this young human learned the light arts? Why wasn't he at all fazed by the mythic creatures that surrounded him? What even is a human anymore?

Altalune's inquisitiveness propelled him; visibly flustered he approached the fellow, like a moth to the flame, like the cat wrought with curiosity. If the key is to understand, then understand he will. It's a start.

"You'll have to forgive me for asking," he began just loud enough to capture the young man's attention, his ashen eyebrows furrowed, "but - well, what are you?" He couldn't approach it any other way. Altalune was plumb stumped.

NOTES; Gonna get started by initiating some interaction >:3c I also made a cpl of last-minute adjustments to his stay time; I thought it would be more interesting if he was a brand-new idiot (since everyone else here is a veteran -- also, I wanted to take advantage of his total non-understanding of the world) I hope it's alright ^^;

anna/ki'peck
interaction: open
anna was mingling about the common area arguing with herself as she would often be seen doing, to be fair many just though anna was a strange demon or something, and she preferred people to think that.... the real situation was far more awkward for her, regardless she had just gotten back to the school for another year, it was better than having to walk around everywhere non-stop but general she wandered around the place. unpacking wasn't too much of a problem especially since she didn't really have to bother with keeping clothing... dude to certain other... issues she had... besides her body seemed to come with them included so.. it didn't really matter but keeping it clean was painful thanks to ki'peck, a bizarre entity anna was stuck with... well literally they both shared the body in some sense... of course,ki'peck usually projected himself like a ghost invisible to practically everyone else and this particular entity was what anna was truly arguing with about some old... sword.
"no no im sure the sword was a soul-eating one there are tones of those around" ki'peck said somewhat casually floating above annas head the woman rolling her eyes in annoyance "it wasn't a soul-eating sword at all magic eating yes soul no seriously why do you think every talking sword is somehow soul-eating have a little faith in em" she said this in an annoyed tone only for ki'peck to laughed like an idiot and very loud mind you... not that anyone else could even hear him "seriously YOU talking about faith now thats priceless mate"

(gonna make an establishing post for the character first. It's open if anyone wants to meet him, will respond in the morning most likely)

Location: The forest at the edge of the university
Tenzen stood in meditation at the base of a large tree, concentrating on nothing but the sound of the forest. Honestly, ever since he came here he had received a bit of "future" shock. Back at where he grew up, a secluded martial arts temple, he lived with minimal modern day luxuries, even spending most of his childhood and teen years in nature. Now he was out here in a modern day academy, him of all people. This forest place however? This he understood. His serpentine tail coiled around his bare torso, its gaze scanning for anyone who may disturb Tenzen's peaceful state of mind.
After all, if there was one person that was allowed to break Tenzen's concentration was Tenzen himself; he might've grown up surrounded by disciplined minds and people hardened by training and meditation, even learning a lot of discipline himself, he certainly had a short attention span.
Taking a deep breath, he puffed out his chest and unleashed a loud, wildcat like scream, his voice echoed throughout the canopy, the resulting cacophony caused birds and small animals in the surrounding area to flee. With a grin, he laughed at the chaos he caused and stretched. "Alright! That's enough mental clarity. How's about a little illusion. Gonna maybe see if I can make clothes. People don't like it when I'm walking around without a shirt." He said, talking to his tail. "Then after that, I'll see what this whole internets thing is."

1571622948466.png Jerimiah didn't really own anything --even the clothes he used in human form were magic-- so he really didn't need to go to his room. He began wandering the school in human form. However after wandering around for a few hours without seeing anyone he recognized he headed to one of the common rooms. After walking in withseveral others he once again didn't see anyone he knew he began heading to another common room. However he tried going through the wall while in human form causing him to slam into it and fall onto his back. "Oww..."
Near: Anyone in the common room.

Moving the orbs was an easy task and making them dance and move in intricate patterns was relatively easy once the balls were conjured. It did take some concentration to maintain them, but perhaps Tenebrae was not as rusty as he had first believed. He added a fifth orb just as words caught his ear. Two of the orbs winked out nearly immediately, he blinked in surprise. Releasing the rest of the orbs, he turned to face the newcomer. It was a question that humans at the University received quite a bit, or so it seemed anyway, based on his own experiences.

"What you see is what you get with me. I, like a few others here at Luthais, am human, though perhaps not quite the same type of human that most are anyway." Tenebrae turned inwardly thoughtful with a moments pause. "I'm told magic in humans is generally due to a mixing of human and magic blood some generations ago."

A small smile now crossed his face. "More importantly, and perhaps more politely, my name is Tenebrae." He inclined his head in a small bow. Luthais was a mixing of many races and species across the globe, and with human forms being more common than true forms on campus, it was often one of the first questions asked. What someone was, was always of a curiosity to the students, and even on occasion lead to reputations earned before deserved, both positive and negative. Still though, it was generally considered a tad uncouth of someone to lead with that question, but it had never bothered Tenebrae much.

"Well, I've given my name. Yours?"

[div class=container][div class=textbox] "I see," said Altalune rather pointedly, utterly absorbed in thought. So again he had underestimated humanity. Over and over, their versatility managed to astound him. Fascinating, but at the same time a little frightening. Well, what really made the Phoenix superior to the humans now? The power of flight? Natural immortality? This peculiar species consistently ascended the divine ladder with only its determination. They'd reached the Moon before Altalune could! (Although they are certainly made a mockery of by the great Phoenix and her fledglings, planting flags on its surface as if they could claim it.) No, this 'Tenebrae' claimed to be more human than he truly was. The mixing of magicked blood with the ordinary ... well, it muddied the waters a bit, that is for certain. But come on! - surely no hybrid could seriously define itself as 'human!' What Altalune sees clear as day are purposeful, marble-cut features and sharp eyes, an air of courtesy - trademarks of the Elven kind. Still, as he fought with his own ideology, Tenebrae sat facing him, as plain as can be, and he gave off no supernatural aura or indication of an alternate identity. How strange. How unbelievably interesting. He snapped out of reverie in time to catch the latter question - and face the reality of his interrogation. Perhaps he should have tread more 'politely' indeed. A brief flash of embarrassment turned his pale cheeks pinkish. "Oh.. please pardon me for my forwardness - it's only that you've intrigued me," Altalune apologised, the shadow of a bashful smile on his lips. "My name is Altalune. I will also disclose my hidden species, as it is only fair; I am a child of the great white Phoenix. I'm from space," he declared, as if it were rehearsed (it was). Gracefully, Altalune sat next to his new human acquaintance, the spirit of inquiry remaining almost tangible. "If you don't mind my continuing to press you: from whom do you descend? Ah, what motivates a human to pursue the magickal arts? Indulge me. I can offer near anything in return." Please pardon his forwardness. Haru Rivers Haru Rivers

Kyrell Konigsburg

Location: Common Eoom Entrance | Interactions: Jerimiah

original.jpg

Kyrell Konigsburg’s ears perked up as he caught a sliver of what could only be described as a feral scream coming from outside. He glanced around, checking to see if anyone else had noticed, but it seemed like everyone was too busy trying to get where they needed to go. Understandable. Kyrell needed to get back to his own task anyway. The werecat strode through the halls of the university, attempting to find an admin or other official working for the school. He had concerns, concerns that needed to be addressed immediately! Things such as, ‘What types of foods are sold and/or dispensed during meal hours?’, or, ‘Where does a student go to pick up a school uniform, if such garments are required?’ Then again, if special school uniforms were required, Father would have accounted for that. He was a thorough individual.

Kyrell glanced down at his current wear. He was garbed in a custom-fitted tunic and trousers, monochromatic shades complimenting his silver fur and blue eyes. A large case of personal things was at his side. The werecat was currently in his bipedal forme, as it was quicker than his feral form, and had greater senses than his human one. Well, his senses of smell, sight, and hearing were all greater. Maybe not his catlike agility, as he was fairly weak. He had quick reflexes, though, One can never be too careful whilst walking to school. His looks had turned a few heads, but that was irrelevant. The werecat sighed loudly, summoning a quick, simple image of a clock over his palm. “Typical. No admins are to be found. I’ll be late if I continue to pursue them. This has just been a waste of time.” He shook his head, and, with an extended nail, slashed through the holographic-looking clock, causing it to disappear.

It looked as if Kyrell would have to get somewhere more populous if he was to find any answers. Perhaps the commons. Or A common room. There were a lot, as Kyrell had learned, scattered about the building. The werecat walked quickly now, tail swaying behind him and suitcase knocking against his thigh. He nearly ran over an odd man who was on the ground, looking dazed. Kyrell stumbled to a stop, and stared at them for a moment, before leaning over and looking directly into their face. “What are you doing lying on the ground like that?” He cocked his head to one side. “It’s awfully filthy on the floors here, though not as bacteria-ridden as other public spaces. I could quote the statistics, if you’d like.” The werecat didn’t put out a paw to help them up. “You seem to be dazed. Did you hit your head?” His eyes widened. “Is that some sort of advanced magic technique? What does it do?”

1571622948466.png 1571622732277.png Jerimiah sat up and looked at the person in front of him which appeared to be a werecat if he remembered correctly. Germs? He never had to worry about them whenever he was in shade or hybrid form and as soon as he transferred out of human form all the ones on him just... went somewhere else or something; he never really thought about it it. Then they mentioned some sort of magic technique... nope he just forgot he wasn't able to pass through walls I'm human form. "I-I'm not doing anything magic... I forgot about my limitations in human form over break... well I tend to do that a lot..." Jeremiah says transforming into his shade form and passing through the wall and back before returning to human form. "That's why I was on the floor..." he says while scratching his head. "I'm Jerimiah by the way..."

The twos argument continued into the concept of faith anna arguing for it and ki’peck arguing against. It was stopped by both of them witnesses someone attempt to walk through a wall anna getting up and moving a bit closer so she had a better view of the boy now on his back “what you think ghost, wraith, shade or magic” she asked ki’peck casually as if it where a bet they made often “hmmm..” the demon said leaning on thin are “I’m going with wraith there something wraithy about that face” he said confidently floating towards em a bit more “well I’m gonna thinking ghost mabye” anna said as she watched a werecat approach the person on the ground asking them what they where doing and that there were a lot of germs on the floor who then ruled out then magic idea, then show both anna and ki’peck where wrong he was a shade “well you lose kiddo” ki’peck said laughing lightly “well so do you so Nothing for you either” anna retorted with a cocky smile

Tenebrae was a bit taken aback, but smiled good-naturedly. He could understand the desire to learn of a topic you had no notion of. "I'm afraid I don't know what I descended from, it's too far back in my history to know anything for certain. Judging by my appearance, elvish wouldn't be a poor guess, but this crossroad of races would be so many human generations back that I am likely no more than a small percentage anything other than human. In addition, there's the possibility that I am not descended from any magical creature at all. Perhaps many humans have the capabilities of magic without ever realizing it even exists."

He had the feeling that Altalune was a new student if he found humans so interesting. "As far as my learning of magic, or any person at this schools learning magic really, we're all likely here for the same or similar reasons as you. Magic gives a great many opportunities and in my own humble opinion, I would pity the person who chose to never see the greatness they were truly capable." Magic was the topic they were all there for. Every last one of them at this school had the desire to learn more of something and that was something that Tenebrae could respect.

"A question of my own if you don't mind." Tenebrae frowned, trying to reach back into his memories on creatures. "I don't believe I've ever met a Phoenix before, much less a White Phoenix from space. How exactly did you end up here, so far from wherever home is for you?"

Efain moved through the halls, her pace even as she quickly made her way through the common room. People were milling about, discussing who knows what at this point since school was over. The faces were familiar as she walked by them. When she was out of sight, she laughed. That poor guy ran right into the wall. A grin now donned her face as she moved outside. The fresh air filling her lungs as her eyes were set on the forest. The place she felt most at peace.

Out of the corner of her eyes she spotted another student, but she wasn't in the mood to talk, not after the letter she received from her mother. Once she crossed the threshold that led her into the forest she ran. Chest heaving as she darted through the woods, leaping over the fallen trees, dunking under their leaves, banking right and left when needed before she slowed. The hair atop her head was a knotted mess. She bit her lip as she plucked leaves out, dropping them on the lush forest floor.

She turned to face the direction of school. Her chest bubbling in anger as her hand tightened around the small paper. "Good for nothin'," she muttered, clenching her jaw. She opened the tattered paper, reading the words again.

Dear Efain,

Your father requests your presence.
He says it is most urgent and related to your half sister's wedding.

Please do not tear the ties, he is your father and cares deeply for you.

Much love,

Mum
.

Efain wasn't worried about the ties, to her she had none. He'd never 'requested her presence' before and finally made contact when his daughter got engaged. Shaking her head she tore the paper, letting it fall on the green below her. "Return to where you belong," she spoke quietly before heading toward the school. She didn't feel like yelling anymore, instead she found peace with her decision. Her mother would be disappointed, but she had no interest entertaining her father, the man who was rubbing the fact he had a full elf daughter.

As she headed back to the school, the tightness in her chest loosened. All she needed was a run in the woods to ease her state of mind. A scream filled her ears, her heart thudded and her hand instinctively reached the dagger in her boot. The birds squawked and the rodents scurried away. After a moment of silence, she left the knife before spotting the culprit.

"You don't want to get cited for public indecency," she said chuckling lightly as she approached the orange haired kid. "What compels one to scream at the woods. I understand in, but at?" She smiled, raising a brow at him.

Finally getting tired of the noise of the common room, Sep closed his book and went to wander the rest of the school. The school was, like, a thousand floors and finding his way back to his room would be like finding your way through the minotaur's labyrinth (okay that's probably an exaggeration) but he wasn't thinking about that. He wasn't really thinking about much as he wandered, looking at the various students roaming about. Most people might marvel at the large assortment of magical creatures at the school, both well known and not so well known, but not Sep. To the changeling, it was just another reminder of his own supernatural origins. Origins he did not like, fyi.

Everntually he found himself at the edge of the forest. It was kind of peaceful there. There were no students chatting it up. No idiots blasting their death metal music too loud. No real noise so to speak of except the song of the birds. This, of course, was not meant to last.

An almost primal scream emitted from the woods followed by the sound of various small animals shrieking in panic. Sep himself thought his heart had stopped beating for a sec. Thankfully (or unthankfully depending on his mood), it had not stopped beating and he was still alive.

A normal person would run and get help because there was some sort of angry monster in the woods. Sep was not a normal person. Instead he went to investigate the noise because that's what people like him (read: player characters) did.

Walking cautiously through the woods he eventually came upon the source of the noise. It appeared to be a boy with lion legs(?) chatting with an elf (or half elf). It was at times like this where Sep would just turn and walk away but before he knew it he had already stepped into the clearing, in plain sight of the two people.

_______________________________________________________________________________

"Hmm." Kyrell cupped his chin, frowning. "Your mind has been struggling to keep up with the transformations? You should do a better job with that; it could potentially be hazardous." Kyrell shrugged and smiled, as if he hadn't just belittled a fellow student. "Well, if it's any consolation, it is highly unlikely that your first year here will end before you master that skill. Most students around your age have had those kinds of little problems as they tried to cope with the changes. I've read about it." That, and Father had told him to expect it as well. How insightful of him. "My name is Kyrell Konigsburg, and you, my fellow peer, seem to be a competent individual. I do believe that we will get along nicely." The werecat gave a small smile, tail flicking as he held out a paw to shake.

Suddenly, Kyrell's ears twitched once more as he heard the sound of someone talking about ghosts and shades nearby. They were likely talking about Jerimiah, of course. He turned, waving at the new folk with a free paw. "Yes, this fellow is a shade! Your assumption was correct! Well done!" Once more, Kyrell sounded sincere in his statement, though it easily could have been seen as sarcasm. He padded over to the woman, dragging Jerimiah along as well (as the shade's hand was still stuck in Kyrell's surprisingly firm grip. The werecat gave a semi-formal bow. He looked the woman over. "With your wings, horn, and pale complextion, I would surmise that you are a demon, correct? I am Kyrell Konigsburg, and this is a fellow student, Jerimiah. I never caught his surname. Say hello, Jerimiah."

Right then, Kyrell decided that it would be the perfect time to have the two get to know each other a little better. "Jerimiah says that he is having trouble remembering when he shifts from human to shade, so he walked into the wall due to his faulty memory. I told him that it is unlikely that he will keep this habit up for long, comparing him to the majority of other magical creatures. What is your name?" Kyrell toyed with the sleeves of his tunic as he awaited a response. He was ecstatic: interacting with other individuals was exhilerating! He'd be happy to continue doing it for the remainder of the time they had together.

"Err... it's more I'm too used to being in my normal form and I'm forgetful... and I'm a third year... and it's nice to meet you..." He responded before taking his hand and shaking it. This guy was... different but friendly... hopefully they would get along. Then he began talking to the other person leaving Jeremiah there wandering what to do. He waved at the demon girl and Kyrell wasn't helping him look cool at all making him want to hide... but he couldn't right now so he stayed where he was. Kyrell having already told them his name he didn't know what to do...

"Of course you've never met a Phoenix before - they are rare to even the eyes of magic!" He spoke quickly, thrilled to speak about the majesty of his species. "It's disappointing to hear you've not even heard of the Moon Phoenix, but I can't say I'm surprised," he smiled, blue eyes glowing with pride, "the white Phoenix has always gone underappreciated in the wake of the red, as it will forever be: we all love the sun, and the daytime it brings." "The white Phoenix and her children bring your Earth the nighttime, which I'm sure you'll agree is just as important. Every evening my mother spreads her wings to cast the darkness upon you, and my brothers and sisters coax the nocturnal from their beds and call upon the stars to shine brightly." As if to paint a picture, Altalune spread his arms, wiggling his fingers like they were the twinkling stars (you're being rather silly, Lou). His passion for his family was almost blinding, his love of the night the only thing to outshine it. It occurred to him that he'd gotten on to rambling, and with a measure of seriousness that only gave away his embarrassment, he apologised. "To answer your question.. I'm here by mistake. He chuckled passively, as though his ditsy recollection was somehow relatable. Altalune waved it away. "Well, it's just history now." He shifted in his seat, feeling amiable. "To touch again on the topic of history, Tenebrae -- do you ever wonder who you come from? Oh, which magicks can you perform? What's your natural magic?" His thoughts had drifted back to the mystery sitting adjacent to him. "Enough about me, really! You are so fascinating." Altalune insisted, suddenly an eager but overwhelming conversationalist. Locations: Dorm Room ==> Common Area

The sounds of glass, sloshing fluids, and something hard clanking could be heard by everybody in the stairwell. Many turned or paused to find the source, only for several of the more experienced students to pull the freshmen out of the way as a girl with horns passed by. She had two large bags, one strapped securely to her back and the other a wheeled travel bag that she was unceremoniously dragging up the stairs. The various horrid sounds came from the no-doubt demolished contents of the travel bag as it scraped up every step. Its owner seemed nonplussed, casually tossing a cola bottle that was filled with something most definitely not cola. The fluid sloshing within was turbulent, glowing in ways no ordinary Cola drink could. Even when she finally exited the stairwell, she didn't even pause to right her travel bag.

The bag scraped against the ground all up until she stood before her door, throwing it open and tossing the Coke bottle into the air. A tail whipped out from behind her and wrapped around the shaking bottle before it could hit the ground. She slammed the door shut behind her before pulling off her backpack and tossing it onto her bed. Grabbing both edges of the travel bag, she hauled it on top of the desk on the other side of the room before flexing her hands and popping it open.

Inside the travel bag were a series of beakers and test tubes all filled with important mixtures and potions...

...All of which were irreparably broken and clumped together in a sludge like mixture.

Looking over the ungodly concoction with a hum of passive interest, her eyes instead went to a baggie of different colored herbs were taped to the side of the bag. Ripping off the baggie, she pulled out an orange root and popped it into her mouth before tossing the baggie onto her bed. Gripping the edges of the travel bag, she lugged it over to an overturned little garbage can in the corner of the room and dumped the contents of the travel bag all over it.

Casually tossing aside the travel bag, her tail raised the now violently shaking bottle in front of her. She grabbed it with one hand and pulled the root out of her mouth with the other. She eyed the cap of the bottle, which was the only thing holding its turbulent contents at bay, before stabbing the tip of her tail into its side and sending a virulent spray of its contents out onto the pile of potion sludge into the corner. She briefly dipped her head forward to sip at the stream before the bottle ran dry and was tossed into her empty travel bag.

The slop in the corner began to bubble as she walked over to her bed and opened the backpack, grabbing two handfuls of make-up supplies and stumbling with the hefty load towards the desk. Using her tail to slide open one of the drawers, she stuffed both handfuls of beauty supplies into the drawer before trying to close it to no avail. She pushed it a few times before stepping back and kicking the drawer closed, cracking at least one of the little bottles inside which began leaking lip gloss down the side of her desk.

She tossed the chewed up root onto the bubbling sludge, and almost immediately the pile began to release fumes. Giving a brief yawn, the girl leaned over her desk to poke at the window next to it, "Repressano Fumigato." she mumbled before turning and going through her dorm room, repeating that phrase a few times before ending at the door. The fumes spread quickly now that the enchantments were in place to keep it from spreading out of the room, filling up space until not an inch of clean air could be seen.

The girl carefully laid her collection of herbs in another one of her desk drawers and closed it before leaning up and taking a deep inhale of the fumes now surrounding her. She held that breath for a while, letting her lungs fill with the sweet-scented fumes until she finally released a large puff of them. Giggling, literal sparks flew from her mouth as she doubled over and had to grab hold of a nearby chair to keep from collapsing into a fit of giggles.

Standing tall again, Trixie looked over her room for a second before putting her hands on her hips and nodding to herself, "Just like how I left it." she stated with a hint of nostalgia.

Some time later she finally stumbled out of the room, quickly closing the door to make sure none of her good stuff got out. With her room situated, all that was left was to see what fresh meat was here to entertain her for the year. So off to the nearest common area she went, stumbling and spewing puffs of fumes with every giggle. Eventually she did make it, leaning against a doorway and letting out another cough before looking up and humming to herself as her unfocused gaze scanned the crowd, seeking out new faces to mess with.

Altalune had told the story of Phoenix's almost exactly how Tenebrae remembered reading it. It was said that sometimes their feathers could be found from when the flew close to our world. Still though, he had never heard of one falling to the earth before. "It must be lonely, so far from your family." Being unable to fly, Tenebrae assumed that Altalune was unable to return home, and based of what he knew of Phoenix's, Altalune could have been here on earth for vast amount of time and could be here for millennia more before being capable of flight.

"I don't really wonder who I came from. I don't think the answer is realistic to find and even if I did, it does not alter who I am. Things that may have happened centuries ago may be of some interest to you, I assume being old enough to remember them, but I am not so old." In the eyes of a Phoenix his age was but a blink of an eye, their perspective of events would be drastically different. "As far as natural magics, humans have none." He laughed, "But, this is not a disadvantage as so many seem to think. Humans have no predisposition to any one type of magic, like so many of the races are bound by. With enough effort humans can master all areas of magic should they choose to do so. It is said that humans are a race of freedom to choose, and I think this is a good example of such a thing."

This was one of the many things that Tenebrae enjoyed about Luthais. There was always and opportunity to meet someone or see something new. These experiences were not something available in almost any other place. Even towns of magical creatures did not have the diversity seen at Luthias. "I'm afraid there's not much more to me than that. When I was ready and old enough, I made my way here. I've spent two years here and learned a few things." A few things was putting it mildly. Tenebrae had soaked up knowledge put in front of him like a sponge, though his ability for herbalism was especially bad. "If I'm not mistaken this must be you're first year here. You'll learn much in that time, and I don't mean just in class. There are many things to experience within this schools walls if you let it."

Someone else? He expected to be alone, so the girl showing up took Tenzen by surprise. "What can I say? A good scream helps get the blood pumping. After meditation you clear your mind and puts you at ease. A scream snaps you to attention and gets you ready." Tenzen looked to his snake. Him and the serpent making eye contact for a short while, as if they conversed in a way only the two of them could hear. With a fanged grin, beaming with confidence, he crossed his arms, "You should give it a try, perhaps? I always perform better after a good scream. The name's Tenzen... Or as my adoptive dad called me Lazy Nue who Needs More Practice." Pronouced New-eh. "Personally, I prefer the former."

“Ah, I see.” Kyrell shrugged. “Father has met a few people with no surname. Greetings, Anna.” And they knew their manners as well! “I do believe that we are compatible as well. I look forward to future interactions.” The werecat took a couple steps into the Common Room, before seeming to. . . shrink? Yes, the werecat was shifting, getting smaller while his arms and legs bent slightly out of shape. It didn’t seem to bother Kyrell, though. Eventually, all that was sitting there was a little gray house cat with blue eyes. There were no clothes on the ground, as they’d shifted with Konigsburg. ‘That’s better,’ the cat purred, eyes darting about. The words seemed to have been transmitted via thought rather than through oral communication. Their gaze finally rested upon a nearby chair, and Kyrell hopped up into the seat, yawning and curling up.

The cat didn’t go to sleep, though. Instead, he raised his head and watched the two other students. ‘A third-year student? I see.’ This was a chance for Kyrell to learn a little more about the advanced curriculum the school had to offer. He was only a second-year, after all. ‘Would you care to explain to me in detail what is to be expected of you third-years this semester? I, being a second-year, would not have received any specific info regarding that, of course. What was your passing score last year?’ In Kyrell’s mind, this was simply a harmless information probe. While Jerimiah seemed competent, he didn’t strike Kyrell as a top-tier student. Not that Kyrell was saying that he himself was, either - he just knew what to expect out of above-average students. He wanted to see what an average passing score of second-years looked like so that he could aim above that. High above that.

Altalune leaned back, crestfallen. He took a slow breath. "Yes, it ... it does get lonely." Sometimes I feel helpless. I wish I could spend this time with others, but I just can't understand them. Even surrounded by people, I feel alone. I don't know a single thing.

A Phoenix should be wise beyond his many years. He should have facts on humans to fill a book. He should know the planet like the back of his hand, having stayed here so long. He should be confident in anything at all, but Altalune still felt so gut-wrenchingly small. He knew nothing of the Earth beyond its forests and lakes, and that scared him.

"I am old, I suppose. I've always seen the bloodline as the only path in life. It's all I know for certain. But you -- you don't care about that, do you? You've made your own legacy." Like Tenebrae had said - it is an opportunity. The variety of perspectives available at the university would rival that of any old library Altalune had scoured. Just look around, for Goodness' sake. His little world had recently skyrocketed far past the thresholds of the wild, and with it came a slew of chances. All Altalune had to do was pursue them. He knew that. So why had it suddenly gotten so hard to face his shortcomings and improve himself? This is not what a Phoenix should be.

There it is - he is not what a Phoenix should be. It hurt tremendously to realise it. However, it isn't carved in stone. Not written in the stars (Altalune would know - he's studied the entire sky). This school could change everything. But only if you let it. Ashes to ashes, and then to something brand new. "Even for the inhuman," Altalune started breathlessly, "is it possible to find that freedom? The freedom to choose?" His voice faltered, sounding hesitant, but his eyes were blown wide with anticipation.

A simple question to be sure, but the answer was not so simple. "Can you find it? No, I don't think it's as simple as finding it. But I also don't think it's as complicated as you imagine either. I think any living being has the freedom to choose for itself. Everything we do is an action measured against consequences. Some consequences may be small and others may be life altering. The question isn't whether you can find that freedom. No, I think the question is much more of 'What can you live with?'" Tenebrae was not a hugely philosophical person, but this was a conversation he had, had with himself a time or two before.

"I should stress that too. 'What can YOU live with?' Look to others for advice when faced with a difficult problem, but there is something to be gained from realizing that when it comes to your personal decisions, you don't owe anyone anything." It was a learned skill. Some feel obligations to family, friends, culture, nation, or any other thing that would bind them to one place or lifestyle. This isn't to say that those things were bad by any means, it was perfectly fine to live life within that sphere of influence, but there was also nothing wrong with venturing beyond that horizon. Sometimes doing so meant leaving life behind for a new life out there, but that's what the question was about. Could you live with that choice. Could you live with deciding to remain in that sphere of influence for the sake of others if the only thing you wanted out of life existed outside of it. "Many humans make a similar choice. The vast majority of humans know nothing of the magical world. To seek a life in the magical world often times means leaving family and friends behind, sometimes permanently. Choices to leave something behind or change your life are never easy, but the question at the end of the day is, 'Can you live with the results?'"

Efain nodded as she stepped out of the woods, her frustration rolling off her back and disappearing into the forest. It was a waste of her emotions. "I suppose there is logic to your reasoning," she said, her gaze resting on the snake tail as it made made eye contact with the boy. What would it be like to have another mind so close? The only person she truly connected with was a childhood friend. He was another half elf, but he died long ago.

Efain glanced at the forest beside her. The lush green seeming to glow in the morning light. The smell of the grass and the sweet scent of the blooming flowers wafted her way. "Perhaps I should." Her voice sounded distance before she turned back to him. She chuckled at his introduction before saying, "I'm Efain. Feel free to address me as such." She smiled. "It is rather cathartic." She nodded before another joined the scene.

The snake tail was rather observant, noticing the new person first. Efain followed the tail's gaze, something she never expected to do. Standing off, staring at them was another student. He seemed bashful, maybe he was alarmed by Tenzen's scream? Efain waved, "Everything's all right, Tenzen was-" she paused, a smile on her lips. "Pumping himself up?" She shrugged, not sure what to call it. Waking himself up? Either way, she didn't want the other kid thinking there was trouble.
