Graded [Kruhrin Village][Ciu'nan]Orson's Feast III

Kruhrin is a town carved into the top of the foothills on the Ryke-East Empire border. The town is comprised of three semicircular terraces, each standing about 24 feet high, wrapped around a central plaza where the main entrance is located. The main road leading up through the terraces cuts off a wedge of land equal to a fourth of the town on the northern side. This land is mostly forested and sloping, with a windmill at its foot and a small shelf at the top used as a sort of campground. The natural peak of the foothill remains intact save for a natural split where the main road passes through to the meadow beyond.

The plaza, aka the first terrace, is the lowest point of Kruhrin and acts as the tourist level. There is a singular expansive tavern as well as shops that non-locals would find helpful during their stay. Many celebrations and feasts are held in the plaza. The buildings on this terrace are a mix of one and two story structures, with the two story buildings being shops with an upstairs living space for the owner.

The second terrace is the residential area. All structures on this level are homes for the citizens of Kruhrin. As such, it's not uncommon to see buildings reach three stories. Also on this terrace, on an isolated rise just above the tavern, is the windmill, the only four story structure in Kruhrin.

The third terrace holds the town hall and acts as the administration level. The three members of the council live in the town hall. Next to it is the barracks of Kruhrin, which is a building shared by the guards and hunters of Kruhrin, who are often both hunter and guard. Next to the barracks is a slaughterhouse where the usable goods are extracted from the carcasses. The edible portions are sold to the tavern, while refinable parts like the pelt and bones are sold as-is.

Behind the town, a vast meadow sprawls across the rolling hills, interrupted periodically by ravines and clifffaces as the mountain range climbs higher. Nestled into the landscape a couple miles from town is an amphitheater where various contests are held, primarily the contests that take place during Orson's Feast. Not far from amphitheater, a rocky formation can be seen where two colossal bear statues guard the way to the monastery of Kruhrin.

Day 3 of Orson's Feast was a listless, overcast day. The winds that occasionally gusted in the meadow behind Kruhrin the day before had picked up to a steady wind that howled through the stonework of the mountain town. Most of the individuals moving about outdoors were bearkin, who didn't seem to mind the pushy wind or the chill it brought.

About mid morning, a crowd gathered at the gate to see Misha and the volunteers off on their trek to Houisil. Per Misha's order, Daichi was forced to stay behind to help watch over the town. Displeased as he was, the young bearkin obediently remained as Misha and the others departed.

The cancellation of the Contest of Cunning left many without any particular plans for the day. This would be most apparent in the tavern, which was bustling with various characters idling the bleak day away. The nook by the fireplace was especially packed, mostly by non-bearkin guests that had come for the feast.

Elsewhere in the tavern, the catkin duo were having a lively discussion with a group of bearkin outfitted for hunting. Ciu'nan was seated nearby, her arm hanging delicately in its sling once again. The grey catkin was asking the hunters if they ever saw anything weird while out hunting. Their answer was lost to the din of the other guests, namely those at the bar, who were presently harassing the barkeep for some more alcohol. Instead of giving in to their demands, the barkeep turned to Daichi when he entered.

"Need something to warm you up?" he asked Daichi, thankful for the distraction from the innebriated guests.
"You have any more of that cider?" Daichi asked.
"Coming right up!"

Daichi went over to sit by the hunters while he waited on his drink. He was quiet and appeared lost in thought, a stark contrast to the Daichi of yesterday prior to the Contest of Strength.

Walking through the village's streets, was the Priest, Hathaway. His white and blue robes shifted back and forth as he passed by the other visitors who were here for the festival. Notably there weren't as many as energetic as yesterday. This was due to the noted 'accident' that befell Jia, causing one of the contests to be canceled. Such an unfortunate turn of events was something Hathaway and his group sought to be the only potential problem that occurred during the festival.

Speaking of which, their endeavor to check in one of the potential suspects proved fruitless yesterday upon finding that one of Jia's rivals had gone missing. The hope that Hathaway had that this was all a coincidence, was starting to sour. His notably delicate facial features scrunched up in annoyance on the recollection. "Surely, the man was only taking a small trip somewhere and we just happened to get there at the wrong time." He tried to convince himself but utterly failed with a sigh a moment after.

That wasn't the only thing on Hathaway's mind however. As his brain shifted gears to a different memory, a giddy smile found itself in the priest's expression. There was the contest of strength which he found so enthralling yesterday. Feats of incredible athletic ability seemed to get an uncharacteristic rise out of him that he couldn't contain. So much so that last night before bed, he tried to lift the waist-high bedside in his room and hurt himself.

Thankfully, he was a priest that could heal himself, so he was saved from having to embarrassingly explain to his allies why he had bruised fingers. On the topic of his allies, Hathaway was heading into the tavern he had met them at yesterday. Upon entering he scanned through the many faces in search for his comrades. After a few seconds, he found Ciu'nan and reacted with a bright smile, "Ciu'nan!-" he began to call out to the fae happily, before his eyes ran across someone else.

It was Daichi, the bearkin that participated in the Contest of Strength and was without a doubt one of the star contestants like the tavernkeeper said. Mouth agap, Hathaway was struck silent in awe at the sight of him. He thought that this was probably what it was like for Ophenia's fans to meet her. The temptation to go over there and have a conversation with Daichi was compelling, but what would he speak about?

It was obvious to Hathaway that his true desire was to learn from Daichi, but was that alright? There was currently an investigation going concerning a potential murder that threatened the success of the festival. What was the importance of needing to be trained by Daichi? 'Well just in case, what if I needed to be strong to defend my allies against a potential attacker?' He once again tried to convince himself, but the excuse fell even flatter than the last. Blinking his eyes soberly at the floor, he admitted quietly to himself "..No, this is for my own selfish desire…".

The words shook something within him, recalling a memory of his past life where he could see one man exchanging fists with another while inside a boxing ring. After dispelling the vision, he contemplated further. Wouldn't a member of his most devout of churches, seek to attain peace first and foremost? That was why they were doing this investigation in the first place. For the sake of peace for all. There was no such peace that could be gained by him seeking out his own self-centered needs.

So why? Why was he instead walking towards Daichi? Hathaway didn't know if he could answer that question within himself as he finally stood before the young bearkin. With a nervous smile and a hint of sweat, Hathaway bowed his head toward Daichi. "Sir Daichi. My name is Hathaway Peacecraft, a member of the church. Your capabilities yesterday at the contest of strength were astounding to say the least. It was an honor to have the chance of getting to watch you!...So I have a most peculiar request for you….Would you..please train me so that I may be strong as well!" He couldn't believe his own words.

Crymaria sat toward the back over the tavern, there was still much that weighed on her mind. The fact that the artist in question seemed to have skipped town before much else could be done. She couldn't help but still feel like there was something else they were missing. There was still too many unknowns and there didn't really seem to be anyone else they could ask questions to. I wonder if anyone saw the artist leave maybe if they saw him going in a direction that might give me an idea on where they went. She thought to herself.

Letting out a bored sigh she looked down at the tea in her cup, occasionally stirring it with a wooden spoon. She glanced around at the tavern and saw several familiar faces. Folding her arms across her chest she tilted her head down and closed her eyes. She sat there for a few moments before standing up from her seat and downing the rest of the tea that was in the cup.
Not going to find much around here I might as well go check out the artists cart that was left behind. Maybe there will be something there. She thought to herself as she started to go toward the caves in question.

The barkeep brought out a mug in short order, filled to the brim with steaming cider. Setting the slightly larger than standard mug down before Daichi, he patted a free hand on the bear's shoulder before going back behind the bar. Daichi stared at the cider a moment before lifting it to his lips. He apparently didn't notice Hathaway approach him as he jumped slightly upon finally seeing the priest. Coughing slightly as he wiped his mouth on his arm, he peered at Hathaway questioningly as he listened to what the priest had to say. As the realization of Hathaway's request hit him, Daichi's face slowly brightened as a massive grin stretched from ear to ear.

"You want me to train you?!" Daichi asked excitedly.

Everyone in the vicinity looked their way. Most went back to their respective activities and conversations. One of the hunters laughed as he reached a paw over and clapped Daichi on the back.

"See what doing well in the Contest of Strength will get ya?" said he with a laugh.

Daichi flashed his grin to the table of hunters, and pretty much everyone else around, unable to contain his glee and excitement. Grasping his mug, he drank heartily from it.

"We should begin now! Right now! Uh, first thing you'll need is...a big meal! Yeah, gotta get your energy up before we start. That'll give me time to see what we can do!"

1e5d837467aca7aa965b4221317faf4a.jpg
Daichi would encourage Hathaway to order a heavy meal--lots of meat and carbs. While Hathaway worked his way through the meal, Daichi would take stock of the priest's physical condition. He'd also suggest a change in wardrobe as the priestly vestments weren't entirely suited for physical training. Once Hathaway had finished eating, Daichi would take him over to his place where he'd offer his trainee some garments that no longer fit the bearkin.

-----

Ciu'nan would wave to Hathaway when he called to her and offered him a quick smile, but her attention was being devoted to the discussion between the hunters and catkin. They had been discussing their observations of the animals this year, particularly that there had been an increase in population beyond what normal mating seasons could account for. The older hunters speculated that it was an odd migration, but as to the 'why' behind such an exodus, no one could say.

Upon the catkin asking about the weirdest sighting on their hunts, the table got quiet. Ciu'nan straightened in her chair, her ears perking expectantly of the answer to come. Through the rambunctious conversation of drunkards at the bar, she heard one of the hunters say, "Frogs. Giant ones."

After a pause, Ciu'nan couldn't help but let out a short laugh, but by the grave looks on everyone's faces, the subject was no laughing matter. She cleared her throat and repressed her urge to giggle more. She bit her lip and sought a way to assuage the tense atmosphere.

"I...erm, say, since you guys are hunters, would you happen to know where I might have my spear repaired? I noticed the blade was chipped today. Must have happened just before arriving in town...."

The hunters appeared more than willing to let the previous subject be forgotten. Many took to their drinks, while one sitting closer to Ciu'nan informed her, "We have most of our forging needs handled in Houisil, but if you're looking to refit a spear, Beh'zig could probably help. He handles odd jobs and repairs like that. His cabin is near the caves in the back of town."

Ciu'nan smiled as she thanked him. She bid everyone a good day as she rose and went to her room. Grabbing her spear, the fae paused for a moment in front of the small bedside table where she had left her skull headwear. Her eyes peered into its empty socket for a long moment before she blinked and turned away. Exiting the room, she went straight for the tavern entrance as Crymaria was leaving.

"Did you find anything out since last night?" she asked the monk.

After staring at the wooden floorboards for some time, Hathaway looked up in surprise at Daichi's response. His eyes blinking multiple times, to make sure he wasn't dreaming. To be totally honest. Hathaway expected that he would be laughed out of the tavern by Daichi and his crew. Perhaps even made fun of for how skinny he was. Least of all did he expect the bearkin to accept his ridiculous proposal. He wondered if Daichi was already inebriated this early in the morning.

The thought of criticizing him on the matter sounded like a bad idea. Scratching the back of his own head, the priest didn't know whether to feel honored or baffled at this result. The only thing he did know was he had to be grateful for this opportunity and make the most of it. "Yes! Thank you so much, Daic- no, Master!" he enthusiastically exclaimed with a clenched fist. Of course, that bravado could only take him so far in face of the mountain of meat before. A nervous twitch of the eyebrow indicated his hesitancy before the mass of protein that sat on the counter. "Well,..there's no way I can stop at just the first challenge..", Hathaway muttered with a fork in hand.

Once he prepared himself, Hathaway dug his face and fork into the bowl with vigor. Though he was careful to make sure he wouldn't choke on his food, and naturally he still held his table manners without causing a mess. He would noticeably begin to slow down by the climax, his stomach being more than full, but he inched along with every bite in order to show what he had. At the very end, his bowl would be empty and after wiping his mouth with a napkin, a satisfied smile on his lips that tried to show he was up for more. "As you can see, I'm completely capable of handling your training."

Sometime afterward, Hathaway found himself not only at Daichi's home but also in his older garments that no longer fit him. Taking off his attire of the church and putting on different clothing, truly made him feel as if he were abandoning something. Once again hesitancy took over his body, but after placing his staff by the door and leaving it behind, did he re-focus his attention on the matter at hand. Hathaway, adjusting his clothing, walked before Daichi. "I'm surprised it fits me so well." he commented. "So....Master, what's the first order of business? Training on how to lift logs three times my size?" he half-way joked.

Crymaria was just about to walk out of the tavern when everything went silent, which caught her attention as she paused and looked around the room. She saw Hathaway and Ciu'nan over by the bar. As one of the hunters cried Frog, Crymaria looked toward Boris for a moment and simply shrugged her shoulders. "Well Comrade Boris I suppose we cannot simply just let these frogs just roam free; seems like an important matter," She stated as she folded her arms across her chest and brought her chin down for a moment. Puffing up her chest for a moment she heard Ciu'nan ask for her spear.

Crymaria casually cracked her knuckles as she looked back up and saw Ciu'nan walk past her heading off toward the cave. She turned her gaze back over toward Boris before simply shrugging her shoulders. She figured with this amount of hunters they would be able to deal with the frog themselves. But if they needed the help she wouldn't say no to assisting them. But for now, at least there was much to uncover and the mystery was still sitting in her mind.

But for now at least she was heading towards the caves that the lost artist was using while he was here. Crymaria hoped that if she took a look there she would be able to find out something else new. The whole feast and contests seemed important enough to the Bearkin that they didn't seem to focus on the incident. She figured that could be summed up with the fact one of their elders hadn't died in the incident.

"'Master'..." Daichi repeated thoughtfully, raising a paw to his chin as a grin bared his teeth, "I like the sound of that!" The paw still cradled his chin as Master Daichi looked Hathaway up and down once he had changed. "Not bad. Those were from when I first started training, so I hadn't put on all this muscle yet. Explains why they fit you so well: you're arms and legs are like toothpicks!" Daichi said bluntly. Daichi laughed when Hathaway mentioned lifting oversized logs. "That's a good one! I'd probably need a year or more to get you there.
"I get it though: I was the same way when I started. I wanted to learn all the cool stuff--the moves and abilities that really draw a crowd. Trust me when I tell you that all those flashy moves won't do you any good if you don't have good groundwork. I heard someone say once that muscles are just as dangerous as mana in terms of how dangerous it is to use either without proper discipline. Could easily hurt yourself or those around you.
"So that's what I'll train you in with the time that I have: groundwork, basics. I'll give you a starting point that you can grow from. Besides, while I'm flattered that you're calling me 'master', I'd be kidding both of us if I said I had it all figured out. Maybe we can learn together once I catch you up to where I'm at."
Daichi playfully punches Hathaway's shoulder before escorting him back out into the wind. "First thing's first, in order for your body to move properly, it has to be limbered and warmed up. Let's start off with a brisk walk. Windy days are good for walking and especially running because fighting through the wind gives you more of a workout with less time and effort."

Daichi begins walking, matching his stride with what Hathaway can keep up with. He leads them to the base of the road leading towards the back of Kruhrin and the meadow beyond. Once at the base of the incline, he begins jogging in place as he explains the next leg of their journey, "Alright, now that we're warmed up a bit, let's do a bit of running. Now, we're running uphill and against a stiff wind, so this is NOT about speed. Just focus on maintaining a steady jog for as long as you can. We'll stop for a rest when you need it, but our goal is to jog all the way to the caves. We can rest there and grab some water before we continue." Like before, Daichi maintained a pace that Hathaway could keep up with. He cheered him on and gave affirmation that he was doing good. Upon reaching the caves, Daichi trotted up to a communal well and started turning the crank to pull the bucket up.

Crymaria did not acknowledge Ciu'nan's question but continued to walk towards the caves. The fae wasn't sure what to think about the lack of response. Maybe the girl with the bear just didn't want to talk today. Ciu'nan walked beside her in silence, turning off at Beh'zig's cabin, while Crymaria continued to the caves. Upon arriving at the caves, Crymaria would meet Sister Joanne.

There were a number of caves along the clifface hidden in the trees. Beastkin, feral bears, and non-beastkin could be seen milling about here and there with a number of carts and beasts of burden stationed nearby. The pair would have to figure out which cart was Karsh's in order to proceed with the investigation.

Some time after Crymaria had arrived, Daichi and Hathaway would be seen jogging up to the caves.

Crymaria was too focused on what was going on in her mind to hear Ciu'nan speak to her. When the two arrived at the caves that was when Crymaria noticed there was someone else besides her and Comrade Boris. "Comrade Ciu'nan when did you get here? I must have been too deep in thought," Crymaria apologized as she took a look around and saw the amount of traffic that was going through this part of the woods. "Someone has got to know which one is Karsh's cart," She explained as she brought her hand to her chin and looked around for a few moments.

As she looked around further, she noticed there was a Nun to which she cocked her eyebrows a bit. She hadn't expected to see a nun out here unless they were on some sort of a mission of some kind. Letting out a sigh she let her hands drop to her sides as she closed her eyes. When she opened them again she saw Daichi and Hathaway running up to the caves, to which she instantly snapped her fingers. "I bet Daichi might know which cart we are looking for," She smirked and started to jog toward the duo beckoning Ciu'nan to follow her.

"Comrade Daichi you wouldn't happen to know what cart belongs to Karsh would you?" Crymaria inquired as she tried to keep pace with the bearkin. "I was wondering where Comrade Hathaway had gotten off to this morning," Crymaria stated.

"Sorry, Master, but as long as you're still ahead of me, I'll be calling you Master", he said cheeky with a smile.

Hathaway was glad to see Daichi was eager to train him and wasn't just forcing himself to go along with it. Really though, the one who should really be worried about whether they want to do this or not was Hathaway himself. Thankfully, the light punch from Daichi knocked aside anymore thoughts of hesitation. "Hard to imagine you fitting in this, that's impressive! Makes me jealous aswell. I'd love to get to your level." Saying such words, the priest clenched his fist in excitement.

Though he has to admit the idea that he wasn't going to immediately be able to flying kicks was a bit of a disappointment to him. Still the realistic part of him wasn't surprising. "I'll keep your advice about muscle safety in mind. Even though there is the temptation to go all the way." He chuckled in the flair of his fantasy.

As he listened to Daichi's instructions, Hathaway began to run along beside. The fact that Hathaway wasn't someone that regularly trained was obviously not long after. With sweat glistening his skin and breathing starting become more rapid and unregulated, Hathaway had a long way to go before he could dream of being at even a decent level. As embarrassing as it was, this was his current starting point. Even so, he tried to keep Daichi's words in mind and pace himself.

Not long afterward by a cave, they were met by Ciu'nan and Crymaria. "The gods must really fancy us as comrades to meet each other again like this so quickly. I didn't get the chance to say it earlier because I was distracted, but good morning to both of you ladies." He spoke with them even while jogging in place beside Daichi. "I'm currently in the middle of some….. important training with Master Daichi. Though I can see that you both are still searching earnestly."
he would then look over to his master with gesturing towards both his allies, "I'm not sure if you met them before, this Ciu'nan and Crymaria. They're....very curious about everything concerning the festival and it's participants. So I'd appreciate it if you'd humor their questions," Hathaway stated, trying his best not throw around any rumors they were investigating a possible murder.

Joanne had been traveling for some time, the arduous climb was not an easy task for the pious maiden. However, her unwavering will was unshakable as the dry dirt beneath her boots was the only thing that heard her muttered prayers.

The nun soon arrived to the fabled caves, after finding out various rumors of spirituality taking place here. She sought God, or the very being that brought her here. Although she'd been given a second chance at life, what was the highest purpose? She had simple questions, but never an answer. The nun closed her eyes with her hands over her heart panting.

Joanne would suddenly hear footsteps coming up her way, it appeared like one of the bear folk and a rather struggling human. They would pay her no heed, yet as they passed she called out, "Wait no don't-!" But to no avail, she'd cross her arms looking at the various carts. When a silver haired woman muttered some rather interesting details. Joanne would quickly followed after her however.

The small woods around the caves offered some cover from the winds. Overhead the blanket of clouds was driven by the air currents but showed no sign of thinning. Though dense and gray, these were no storm clouds. Not yet, at least.

Daichi continued to turn the crank for the apparently deep well. [Fun fact: Most wells in Montana range from 60-300 feet depending on the location. Sometimes in the higher mountains and certain areas water wells can be deeper.] Upon Hathaway introducing Ciu'nan and Crymaria, he turned and gave them a quick nod, then turned back to the crank as Crymaria asked him about the Karsh and his cart.

"Karsh? Oh, that human artist from Houisil? His cart isn't hard to spot: it's like a little house on wheels." At last, Daichi had hauled the bucket of water up within reach. Locking the crank in place, he reached for the bucket and offered it to Hathaway. "Drink up, uh..." Daichi's face went blank. Reaching a claw up and sheepishly scratching his cheek while smiling apologetically, he said, "Gee, in all the excitement I never asked your name, did I? Some master I am." A serious look flashed in his eyes as Daichi straightened up and bowed deeply to Hathaway and company. "Please forgive me for my rudeness! Would you honor me with your name?" Upon finally learning Hathaway's name, Daichi would offer him a grin. "Hathaway, then. Well, if you're rested up, shall we continue? We can get the rest of the training in around here. Next thing is to test how well you balance. Come on!"

Daichi led Hathaway a short ways over to the entrance of the pass that connected Kruhrin to the meadow beyond. Walking right out into the middle of the road, Daichi's clothing whipped in the full force of the focused wind blowing along the path.

"Most if not all fighting styles require a steady stance and good balance. Kicks are especially dependent on great balance." While keeping one foot planted, Daichi effortlessly arched a kick up over his head. "Really useful against tall opponents. Techniques can come later though. For now, I want you to stand here and balance on one foot for as long as possible. It makes it easier if you brace your opposite leg against the knee or thigh of the one you are standing on. Give it a try." Daichi would examine Hathaway's technique and critique him as he teetered, offering ways to better stabilize his stance as he thought of them. He would periodically have Hathaway switch to the other leg to balance out both sides.

[Note: Hathaway would not see/hear this interaction. Crymaria and Joanne would only hear it with enhanced senses.]

The door to Beh'zig's cabin opened as Ciu'nan emerged from within. Turning back as an inaudible response came from within, she smiled and called back, "Excellent. Until then, Beh'zig!" Adjusting the sling on her shoulder, she was about to depart when a voice called to her from around the side of the cabin.

"Is 'fae' short for fa(e)ke?"

Ciu'nan's eyes widened as she turned to see Anasi approaching her, a blade of wild grass protruding from the corner of her mouth. Her spear poking out from behind her shoulder. The giantess was a full head taller than Ciu'nan as she looked down upon the fae with a scowl.

"I-I'm sorry...?" Ciu'nan said, waiting for the punchline believing this to be some kind of joke.

The giantess came around to the front of the cabin, and stood between Ciu'nan and the cabin's entrance. A hand came up to hold the grass stalk as she continued.

"I've been watching you. Is it for the attention? Special treatment? You hoping Beh'zig cuts you a deal because you're some "fragile" woman in need?" Ciu'nan stumbled for words. "Just know you'll be paying full price for Beh'zig's work, and once it's done, you best stay away from him." Anasi stepped right up to Ciu'nan, leaning in as she whispered, "You think ripping off the emblems can hide the fact that your armor is from the Eastern Empire?" Anasi stood up straight, replacing the stalk in her lips as they curled in a smug smile.

Ciu'nan was stunned speechless. Anasi waved her hand in a shooing motion, but her eyes dared Ciu'nan to make a move. The fae slowly turned away as the sound of the door opening could be heard. Anasi turned and said loud enough for Ciu'nan to hear, "Oh, it's nothing Beh'zig. She was just telling me that she's leaving as soon as her spear's ready."

At the main road, Ciu'nan paused, thinking. Her eyes slowly looked up the path to the right, staring somewhere into the meadow beyond the pass in front of her. After a quick glance over her shoulder, she walked up the road. Ciu'nan found herself stopping at the caves at the top of the hill. Crymaria would call to her upon seeing her. The fae would look blankly at her for a moment before coming to her senses.

A small smile and wave. Like normal. Ciu'nan would think to herself as her body acted out the mental instructions.

Though Crymaria acknowledged her now, Ciu'nan was thankful she was more interested in questioning Daichi once he arrived. Anasi's words still hung over her heavier than the clouds overhead. Ciu'nan didn't even recognize Hathaway right away without his vestments. Before she could comment on it, Daichi was making a scene out of neglecting to ask Hathaway's name. A hand raised to curl her flyaway hair strands back behind her ear as her eyes scanned the area. Daichi's clue about Karsh's cart guided her gaze to a particular cart parked in the trees.

"Looks like that's the cart over there." said she pointing to the very house-like cart.

Those that would would make their way to the cart. Testing the door, it was unlocked. Inside, a bed was immediately to the right. The back end was raised with a tall crate standing in its center. Several bags lined the wall opposite the door. Some had been opened, showing articles of clothing within. A table with various carving implements lay to the left of the entrance. A crate filled with empty wine bottles was left on the desk. The crate could hold nine bottles, but only eight were in the crate.

"Fear not, Comrade Hathaway, we all have our own reasons for being here," Crymaria stated as she looked over her shoulder trying to Spot Comrade Boris. While she couldn't help but notice the training gear reminded her of a monk in training. Though in reality, she could have probably benefited from this training as well, but her attention was much more focused on the investigation though that was something she could revisit once she had completed what she had come here to do.

When Daichi spoke up about the cart, a smile appeared on her face. "Thank you, Comrade Daichi," Crymaria replied as she was directed to which was the cart she was looking for. Now the real question is, what is going to be left there for us to find? She spun on her heel and started to walk toward the cart that was pointed out to be Karsh's cart. As she reached to the cart she knocked on the door and waited a few moments. When she didn't hear any response, she tried to open the door seeing that it was unlocked.

To which she cocked an eyebrow and stepped through the threshold. Her eyes immediately went to the bed as it was the first thing as she entered, seeing there was a large crate at the center of it. "That is odd why is one bottle missing?" Crymaria thought out loud as she was perplexed by the whole matter. Letting that rest for a moment she examined the other bags and pulled the clothes from their bags. Once that was complete, she would then go back to looking at the bottles to see if she could find anything identifying them.

Levia had overheard the rumors, something about a famous artist going missing out of the blue. As a former hero in her past life, she had decided to take it upon herself to investigate the matter thoroughly and get to the bottom of this. And in the meantime, perhaps snag some of the artist’s riches and possessions for herself. After all, she was broke as hell and there was no way someone like her could be seen begging for money!

The girl idled about the caves, searching for clues about the whereabouts of this artist’s cart, when she overheard Daichi talking about it not too far away. A little house on wheels, huh. Her eyes darted between the carts, searching for the gold mine. Jackpot! There it was, sitting not too far away from them. It seemed that she wasn't the only one thinking about robbing the cart, as a stern looking girl had already made her way into the cart herself.

“Hey! What do you guys think you’re doing, rummaging about a missing person’s belongings like that?!” Levia scolded, with her hands on her hips. The frown on her face immediately turned into a cheeky smile as she strode her way over to them. “The treasure ought to be shared, y’know?” She said with a wink, before shoving her way into the cart herself.

“Come on my fellow thieves, there’s bound to be treasure somewhere in here, I can smell it. Aha! Look what we’ve got here.” As soon as she said this, she approached the tall crate to open it up.

Joanne seemed to wait for the opportune moment to say something, she had been following this group of adventurers for sometime however it wasn't until now that the solemn nun thought to speak. Stepping behind the cart as the group she'd been following, she clicked her tongue, "No, this won't do, thievery is not very becoming of would be heroes." She entwined her hands a bit, before continuing, "Rather, why not investigate the caves further up? Im curious what those godless heathen Bear folk must be conjuring."

She was rather open about her prejudice, "I simply want to observe, this area is rather foreign to me."

Turning to the militant one and the girl who appeared to be a witch she bowed her head lightly with her eyes closed for a glimpse before introducing herself, "I am Sister Joanne Valenhart, I've been sent to investigate the harnessing energy of this region for records and knowledge of the various incantations at work here. My position is quite frankly only for research. I am not allowed to take action, unless my life and those whom, at my discretion, deem appropriate to help."

Clearing her throat she continued, "Well then, shall we continue?"

Though Hathaway was slightly miffed about his name being easily forgotten two days in a row, he didn't let it show on his face. Unfortunately, he was getting used to it thanks to yesterday. Speaking of which, he hadn't seen Ophenia today, he hoped she was doing alright. "Don't worry about it Master Daichi, I'll work hard enough to imprint my name upon your mind." he spoke so while waving off his allies and leaving them to their investigation. Hathaway wished them luck as he stepped through the plethora of trees deeper within the hill.

There he was greeted not only by the meadow, but strong winds that blanketed his clothes and hair. Hathaway kept an arm in front of his face, trying his best to get a visual of the area and Daichi. Once he heard of the prospect of having to keep a balance under these conditions, the young man gave a confused raised eyebrow. " You mean,..here?" the priest managed to say in surprise. It was difficult enough on two legs, but just one was certainly a pain.

Hathaway then proceeded to push away his thoughts on caution and do as his master said. With both arms steady in the air like a cross, he stood on one like. Then to the surprise of no one, he was pushed backwards on his rear by the wind. He grunted and rubbed his sore bottom, but without a moments delay, he went back to trying to clear his objective. This time, he put more strength into his standing single right leg and leaned forward against the wind to use it as support. However, nature was far too unpredictable, and the sudden gusts of wind once more made the priest fall. This time forward and almost on his face.

Annoyed, Hathaway tried once again. Trying to match the movements of the wind, he shifted his center of gravity in response constantly. While he hadn't fallen yet, he figure was wobbly and tettering from side to side. In trying not to be too rigid in his focus, Hathaway spoke a question to Daichi. "Master, if you don't mind. Could you tell me why you decided to train a random individual like myself? A weak human priest at that, surely this wasn't your idea of how you wanted to start your day." he asked, though he spoke rather loudly in trying to talk over the wind.

Daichi was taken aback by Hathaway's question. His face contorted in thought as he helped his pupil off the ground. "Why did I decide to train you...? Why wouldn't I? How else are you going to get strong unless I help you along? You know...there's something I heard Master Jia say once, and it's always stuck with me: 'Mankind caused us animals to go from walking on four legs to walking on two. Wouldn't it be something if we, in turn, caused mankind to go from walking on legs to flying on wings?'" Daichi gave a small laugh. "It probably sounds crazy to a human. I don't really get what Jia was trying to say, but I think it's good for us beastkin to help humans when we can. Like I said earlier about the training, I'm helping you get to my level so that maybe we can help each other get to an even higher level together."

Daichi keenly watched Hathaway's form as he balanced. After many tumbles, the instructor interjected. "You're too stiff. What you're looking for is, um...how to put it...? To be loose...and tight at the same time. Let's try this another way. Stand facing into the wind with your feet together. Now bring the leg your balancing on back slightly and bend the knee just a bit. Now lift the heel of your front foot up so that just your toes are touching the ground. Hold that stance until you feel yourself stabilize. Now gradually lift your front foot the rest of the way off the ground. You don't have to raise it too high, but just high enough so that you're balancing on the back leg." Daichi would watch, visibly anxious to see Hathaway gain some ground in this exercise.

Crymaria alone would recognize the stamp on the wine crate as a Houisil-based company. This knowledge would come--perhaps regrettably so--from her first night in Kruhrin spent drinking with the bearkin. This among other vintages were passed around by the barrel full, courtesy of the tavern.

Examining the contents of the bags, would reveal several sets of clothes. The clothes are of three different sizes and one set was distinctly feminine in design. Additionally, a pouch of Ryken currency was found nestled into one bag.

The bed is unmade: pillow cock-eyed and sheets twined together. It had been slept in, but the better question was had it ever been made? The pillow's position revealed the corner of a parchment tucked underneath. Pulling it out, the page is covered in swirling calligraphy. It is a letter addressed to Karsh wherein a maiden requests more money from him with flowery speech and flirtation. Swooping hearts and flowers are embroidered into the calligraphy. The slightest hint of perfume still wafts from the page.

Levia opens the crate with ease. As the panel swings away, clumps of wool spill out of the crate. It is empty.

Outside the cart, Joanne would see a bear (Boris) approach. He would sniff at her before being distracted by a dark spot on the ground. He would sniff at the spot a few times before giving it a quick lick. Then he would start sniffing the ground moving over to where Joanne stood. Boris would stick his snout past her, sniffing the cart itself before huffing violently as he backed away. Sitting on his rump, the bear would swipe a paw at his snout a time or two.

Levia took a step back as the clumps of wool spilled from the crate. That was it? No treasure? She dug her hands into the wool, but it was all for naught as all she got was a handful of more wool. Jackpot! She's got tons of wool to sell now! Or not... Darn it, perhaps being an artist wasn’t a lucrative job in this world, and she had just tried to rob such a poor fellow. She was starting to feel guilty!

That was when she heard a voice call out from behind, introducing herself as Sister Joanne. Not only that, but the stern looking girl from before was dressed in military clothing. Levia's eyes widened in disbelief. Wait a minute... They couldn’t possibly be thieves! The only thief here was her!

“Did I say fellow thieves? I meant to say… err… fellow chiefs! Yes! That’s what I meant. You see, this lady here is dressed just like a respectable chief officer.” As she said this, she’d gestured towards Crymaria. “And I presumed u were the chief of the church. Do correct me if I am wrong.” Levia explained to Joanne with an innocent grin on her face, hoping deep down that they wouldn’t just call in the guards on her on the spot.

“Ah… forgive me, it seems I haven’t introduced myself yet. I am Levia, just a mere wandering wizard.” She introduced herself with a slight bow. “Sister Joanne, from what you mentioned earlier, you mean to say that there is some unknown energy being harnessed here? Is that why we are investigating this cart in particular?”

With the new arrival of Levia. Crymaria turned and eye the girl as she had suddenly appeared as she was starting her search. "I think you have the wrong idea comrade, if you intend to take things you are the thief I'm currently looking into a matter so I am no thief," she then started to go through the items noting the company sigil that was on the crate and that she knew where it was from. When the letter was found she scrunched her nose at the smell of perfume and the contents of the letter to which she put down. She made note of the clothes and the three different sizes and types along with the extra Rykes.

Crymaria was about to turn around to leave when another new arrival appeared, "Comrade Boris you could have alerted me!" She scolded the bear as Levia tried to start coming up with an excuse. Crymaria's eyes landed on the Levia and there was disappointment in her eyes that she didn't try to hide. "What is my name Comrade? I'm not even an officer here I'm just trying to solve a matter here and you are not helping the matter," Crymaria concluded as she let out a sigh and stepped out of the wagon to close the gap with the Nun that had appeared. Such strange tidings to find a nun out here. She thought to herself.

As the Nun explained themselves Crymaria cocked her head to the right a little before glancing toward Boris.
"I doubt you will find any sort of magic here Comrade Nun, the bearkin here don't like magic nor do they practice it. If you find any magic here then it is from the visitors," she explained folding her arms across her chest as she waited to see what the next reaction was going to be as she pondered where Ciu'nan had gotten off to.

A smile crept up Hathaway's face upon hearing the influence Jia had. He wasn't aware of her activities and had little to go on from their interaction yesterday. Judging from her reaction at the time, and the info he got just now, he saw her for quite the kind and deeply sentimental person.

"Jia, huh? I saw for myself yesterday just how sincere her feelings were. After hearing what you said about her I underestimated the depth of those power emotions she carries. Forgive me for my question, Master Daichi, I now comprehend just how remarkable the very foundation of your strength is." he spoke genuinely before continuing on. "Her concern for others reminds me of my fellow compatriots of the church. In fact she could be them to same." he chuckled while still giving his due respect. "Now back onto business'."

Hathaway said, still trying to bare the brunt of the wind that whipped across his face. His earlier inquiry and the answer he received only further emboldened him to succeed. Perhaps he too could attain just a bit of the grace that Daichi and Jia had. He proceeded to try to follow his Master's instructions to the T. So much so he was focused that he didn't respond in an affirmation. Hathaway relaxed himself and didn't try to fight against the wind like before. His feet had fully become even and his knees slowly sunk down as he slackened.

Then, he brought his left foot up delicately and in turn rested his weight on the toes of his right foot. Hathaway wasn't looking at his feet, his eyes were simply closed the entire time. The slow shift in his balance was such so that it felt as if he were standing on both feet naturally. So when Hathaway opened his eyes, he was surprised to find that he was standing only one leg in face despite the wind's attempts. A bright grin flashed, "Well would you look at that! I'm actually doing it!" He laughed in surprise and excitement upon the discovery of what his frail self could possibly do.

"Not at all, Hathaway. I'm just glad to have this opportunity to share with you!" Daichi watched, arms curled and fists clenched, as Hathaway sunk into his stance. The wind blew against him, but he seemed sturdier this time around. Arching his front leg like a learned martial artist, the priest was soon balancing on one leg despite the wind. Daichi pumped his arms and whooped excitedly. "That's it! Way to go! Just hold that for a bit longer!" Daichi kept time and eventually let Hathaway return to standing on two legs. "Now we'll do the same thing on the other leg and call this segment of training good!" Daichi said. This time, he'd perform the balancing exercise with Hathaway. No reason to let a training opportunity go to waste!

While the pair were balancing, a figure suddenly past them walking into Kruhrin. It was a bearkin dressed in robes very similar to the ones Hathaway was currently wearing, but colored differently and more ornately decorated. Daichi upon noticing the figure did a double take and immediately stood up straight, feet together and bowed to the bearkin as he passed.

Though the crate was full of wool, it wasn't bursting at the seams with it. There was plenty of room left inside, suggesting that the wool was a filler to cushion whatever had been in the crate originally.

Boris shrank--as much a bear could--at Crymaria's scolding. He huffed at Joanne. Upon stepping outside to greet the nun, Crymaria would suddenly smell the odor of urine, seemingly emanating from the front wheel of the cart.

Back at the road, Ciu'nan was waiting around watching Daichi and Hathaway. She perked up at the sight of the robed figure passing by. Her gaze didn't break away from the bearkin until he disappeared around the corner in the direction of the town hall. Ciu'nan stared after him for a moment before going to the cart herself.

Upon arriving outside, she saw the Joanne and Levia once she exited the cart. Upon seeing the latter, Ciu'nan came closer, gushing over the little witch.

"Aw, you're cute! I really like your earrings." she said in a friendly manner. Once that was out of her system, she turned to Crymaria. "Find anything?"

Evidently, it appeared the nun Joanne had sort of walked into a robbery. However, it wasn't her place to judge, in her small village it was mostly those that truly needed help that stole from others. While seeming quite nervous, Levia seemed to spiral whilst trying to place blame on others. Joanne chuckled a big and looked at the ground before her, "Please, don't be threatened by me, I'm no sort of authority. Just a probe sent to investigate and confirm or not whether this place is a threat." She said affirmatively, then peered into the crate, "Hmm. It seems something else was here, miss Levia. Whatever it was was probably taken into those caves."

The nun crossed her arms as the witch/wizard spoke, nodding at her confirmations and nodding at her inquiry, "No, there's nothing conclusive as of now, but perhaps.." looking at the cart gestured, she continued, "..I seem to be following a trail, and it has so far lead me here. Only God knows why."

It was then that another voice began to speak, she seemed stern, direct and militant even zealous to a degree. When she closed the gap between them the nun stepped back a bit as she looked down in a sort of submissive gesture, "With all due respect, miss. I only seek whatever spirituality is being practiced. Magic is not why I'm here, but that is indeed quite the interesting detail." She made a mental note for her report. "Please forgive my lack of formality, I am Sister Joanne Valenhart, I represent the church and it's concerns regarding this area."

Shortly after the bear Boris would seem to approach the nun, she only noticed him by his constant sniffing about, stepping away from the black spot on the ground she looked down at it then back up at him, "How do you do?" She said with a slight bow of her head holding the seems of her habit out just a bit with her fingertips. "Can you identify it?" She asked with expectant eyes.

Then yet another would appear, her demeanor was mysterious, and her appearance just as much in equal measure. She seemed more like the surrounding forest dwellers, yet, there was something else about her she couldn't quite pinpoint. However, she seemed to act quite warm to the witch, to which Joanne backed away from as she seemed to be quite fancied by the thief witch.

Clearing her throat, she delicately continued this time referring to Cuinan, "Pleased to meet you, Sister Joanne Valenhart." She said with a slight bow if her head, this time she'd keep it brief, wanting to continue towards the caves, "Shall we make our way towards the caves? I would most certainly feel safer with others, if that's where you all are headed."

Levia let out a sigh of relief upon knowing that the others were not about to call the security team in. Somehow her excuses worked out, although both the military girl and the nun didn’t seem to have bought into her excuses, but at least they were willing to forgive her. Sister Joanne would then draw her attention to the crate she had just opened, noting the possibility that some treasure could have been there earlier. Levia wracked her brains, but really anything could have been inside the crate. “Well, it had to be something fragile for there to be wool to help cushion it.” She voiced out her thoughts.

Watching from the side as the military girl were to scold the bear, Levia’s jaw dropped. “No way… You’re friends with a bear?! That’s so cool!” Her eyes sparkled as she said this, however the military girl only seemed to be disappointed in her antics thus far as she voiced out her disappointments. “Hey, I could be of help too. You just gotta give me a chance. Watch this.” Levia waved her hand over the other, her hand glowing blue as she did so. A couple of ice cubes would form on her palm. “I can cool down drinks for ya. Pretty nifty, eh?” She grinned smugly at the military girl while nudging her with her elbow, before tossing the ice cubes away. They weren't gonna last long anyway with her current magic level, but nobody needed to know that!

When Ciu’nan approached her, Levia would take a small step back. She didn’t expect to be complimented by a stranger out of nowhere, much less a tribeswoman. She felt like she needed to return the compliment, and so she did with a smile. “Why thank you! And I really like your skull hat, it’s pretty badass. The name’s Levia by the way, and it will be my pleasure to aid you in your investigations.” Sister Joanne would introduce herself too, before suggesting they head for the caves, to which Levia replied, “sure thing Sister, to the caves we go then!”

As Joanne spoke up, Crymaria tiled her head to the right a little, at least for the moment she didn't seem to have any power here. Though the smell of urine distracted her for a moment. "Well Comrade Joanne, I don't know what you are hoping to find here. The Bearkin seem to be a fairly welcoming people to a degree, their practices are a bit strange but I think anyone not from this region would think so. Who is Comrade Boris? Well Comrade Boris is typically the largest bear around, but I have my ways of knowing which one is him should the case arrive," She stated with a nodded other head as she folded her arms across her chest as her attention as then brought to the thief.

"Comrade Boris has been with me for a long time, he is a Comrade in arms," Crymaria responded as Levia then started to produce ice cubes in the palm of her hand and then started to nudge her with an elbow. To which Crymaria gave another disapproving look as she was elbowed and raised her eyebrows. "We all have our own talents Comrade thief, I'm sure your ice magic will come in handy somehow," She concluded as she dropped the sides of her ushanka covering her ears with the wool. She was about to speak more when Ciu'nan decided to make her appearance known once again. Though that was a discussion for a different time the information thus far she had gathered didn't really paint all that great of a picture in her mind.

"There was a crate with the brewing company from the Elvish city that requested aid from the Bearkin. Inside the crate was eight bottles of wine though there was one missing which could be concerning. There was also some kind of love letter Comrade Ciu'nan though there didn't seem to be any particular about that other than the perfume that was attached to the paper. Did Karsh come alone? There was three sets of clothes and not all of them were for a man, not to mention a hidden bag of extra Rykes," Crymaria reported back as she tiled her head down slightly and tried to come up with something that would make sense in all of this. "But there was some carving instruments on a table, so Karsh had the means to cut the rope but did he have a part in it is yet to be seen," She sighed shaking her head.

Having gotten a good grasp on standing on his right leg under these conditions, Hathaway proceeded to take Daichi on his offer on trying with the other. With his newfound confidence and a tad bit of nervousness, he moved. Just as before, he ever so carefully and slowly lowered one leg and raised the other. While his overeagerness did cause him to shake a bit, he was able to calm and recenter himself.

With the same delicateness as before, his leg remained still within the air. Though the wind tried to move him, he would not be swayed. Hathaway enjoyed the breeze for the gentle caress it gave across his skin. It was an experience that caused him to think that perhaps this exercise could be a pleasant daily procedure. "I think I'm starting to get the hang of this," he said proudly with a bright grin.

As he was thinking on this, Hathaway took notice of the sudden show of respect Daichi gave toward a bearkin that wore similar robes to himself. "An acquaintance of yours?" He asked while still maintaining his posture. When he thought upon it further, he added, "Or, maybe someone more than just that?"
