The drug was slowly dissolving in Anita mouth and it was way too early for her to feel it properly. But patting Dante’s pockets for a while, she found his little stash of little bottles and pulled one. Barely examining what it was, she opened it and emptied its contents in her mouth, making a grimace. Fucking vodka. She hated that transparent crap. But it just helped to wash the molly pill down and make it part of her system. Her eyes wandered to the drinks table and she noticed someone, possibly a new girl in something so ridiculous Ani would never put on her body. Obviously, she had to make a comment and hearing Samara’s response, she just rolled her eyes. “You know very well that’s not true, Sammy.” she threw her hair back, sporting a smug smirk on her lips. If Anita was sure about something, it was her figure and the fact that whatever she put on, she could rock it.

Riley went to greet the blonde, spiked drink in his hand. For Ani, the matter was already old news and she was about to suggest maybe a swim for fun or something when Sam asked whether they should stop Riley. Who the fuck cared? But what actually pissed her off more was Dante letting go of her and even he walked to the new girl. “You must be fucking kidding me.” she mumbled and her eyes narrowed, sparkling dangerously. What was so interesting about trackpants girl? Ani crossed her arms on her chest and huffed, watching the scene unroll in front of her eyes. Dante was a fool if he thought he was taking her home after this.

“This is bullshit.” she spoke after a while, turning to look at Samara. Both Riley and Dante were running around the blonde as if she was some kind of grand price. Meanwhile, the girl was nothing but a peasant in trackpants. Who even wears that shit for a bonfire night at the beach? Ugh, like…whatever! All because they wanted to drug her? Just how desperate were they? Well, Ani would understand Riley, he probably wanted a quick lay. But Dante?

But that was all nothing in comparison to what happened next. Shadow fell upon the sand as a tall figure appeared. It took Ani a moment to realize it was Sebastian the grump. She was not very much fond of the boy and the dislike was pretty much mutual. But this time, he really overstepped and his words made Ani’s blood boil. No one…no one single person ever dared to call her a cheap slut. And here he was… Ani darted forward, sand flying from under her feet and before either Riley or Dante managed to react, the tiny form of a fiery Latina got between them and stabbed Sebastian in the chest with her perfectly manicured red-painted nail.

“Step aside, Pierce, you’re bothering everyone anyway. If you came here just to insult people and be in a way, be my guest, but not around here and around my friends. You being here is just spoiling everyone’s mood. No one asked about your opinion so take your trackpants girlie and slither away to any hole you came out of.” she hissed at him, absolutely blind to the fact that the boy was towering over her. She should have left Riley and Dante rip the fucker apart but shit just got personal. “Never again take my name in your filthy mouth, you heard me? You know nothing about me so don’t you dare to mention me again, are we clear?” Ani now raised her voice and her both hands were now by her sides, flames already dancing around her fingers, slowly swallowing her hands, as she spoke once again, very slowly. “Nobody…wants…you…here…!” A small fireball formed in her hand as she lifted it, ready to hurl it in Sebastian’s way, not caring about the consequences the least bit. Her eyes were hazy already, sight a bit blurry but Ani was ready to fight.

Slowly but surely, Riley started to feel his head woozy and the smile on his face was growing wider and wider. The party drug surely worked and he was glad that Dante and Ani decided to join him in the drugged state, at least he was not going to be alone in the molly-induced haze. “Really, Sammy? You wanna play a nanny tonight? What is that? Taming your inner beast?” Riley laughed at his own corny joke, knowing that Sam was gonna either laugh or hit him back with another joke. That’s how the two worked anyway.

Now that the encouragements were in, Riley started to look around to see what to do and he noticed a girl who seemed to be new. Naturally, he went over to greet her, bearing gifts. She was beautiful and when her lips curled in a smile, Riley was sure he would love to take her home tonight. But it fucking figured that Dante had to be an ass. What the fuck was he even doing here? Didn’t he have Anita to entertain? Yet, here he was, spoiling Riley’s game with the blonde. Like fuck you, Dante!

However, it seemed that the blonde was not as gullible and weak-minded as she looked at the first sight and Riley almost died laughing, hearing her comments and seeing how she patted Dante on his chest as he if was some kind of couch dog. By the time she was done, Riley was almost wheezing. However, all his good mood was immediately extinguished when another boy approached them. Smile from Riley’s face disappeared as fast as it appeared and Riley sobered up a little, ready to fight if necessary.

Sebastian Pierce was the enemy number one on Riley’s list. The two despised each other and wherever they were forced to be together, there was definitely a fight. Verbal or physical, but a fight. This time, Sebastian went after Dante and Riley balled his fists. Imagine his surprise though when a flash of brown hair arrived and Ani started to lash out at Sebastian. Riley realized that she had to heard Sebo’s words and naturally, she was offended as hell. She kept her speech going for quite a while and Riley was actually amused by the little girl being so fierce but then he noticed flames dancing around her fingers. But when her hand started to come up, he knew there was gonna be a problem so he punched Dante in his arm. “You may wanna take care of her, dude.” He spoke and threw the spiked drink away, ready to hold Sebastian.

Samara Seabrook.

  • It didn't matter how "grown" the rest of their little group believe they were, Samara knew that all of them made bad choices every once in a while, some more often than others. But, acting as the babysitter was more for her protection than theirs. Sure, if she went rogue in a school full of gifted, she might not hurt anyone. But that would only be because someone would put her down like the animal she was first. Riley seemed to be striking up a conversation with the girl, and Sam wondered if he was having any luck. Based on the look on her face, he probably wasn't. But that didn't stop Dante from trying to get his own piece in, effectively blocking Riley. Taking a swig from her flask, Sam couldn't help but roll her eyes. How did the old saying go? Boys will be boys.

Deciding whatever was going on would be more fun if she could hear it, Samara moved closer to the drink table. She picked up a red plastic cup, filling it with more alcohol than mixer. Her emerald eyes flickered up at the blonde, a smirk playing on her lips as she heard what was said to Dante and Riley. She glanced between the boys before resting her gaze on the girl, mischief clear on her face. "I mean, you're not entirely wrong." What had begun as a lighthearted conversation with a girl who seemed to be able to hold her own quickly turned into a tense standoff. Sebastian appeared out of nowhere, effectively blocking the girl from the rest of their group. IT was then that Sam realized who the blonde was: Miya Swan. The new girl that was effectively part of Sebastian's family, or so the rumors were. Whoever she was, it was clear he was protective over her.

Samara had never had a problem with Seb. Other seems to think he was maltempered, cruel, mean. But she thought differently. Neither one of them ever really seemed to mind the other, appreciating the honesty and reservations. Now that he stood in front of Dante, so close that once could easily attack the other if they wanted to, the hairs on the back of her neck rose. The animalistic "fight or flight, protect her own" instincts began to kick in. But, in this case, both were people she considered as at least acquaintances. And at the end of the day, she had only decided her job was to make sure no one killed each other that night.

As soon as Sebastian said those words, Samara knew it was about to get a whole lot brighter. Anita was a lot of things, determined, outgoing, fiery. But she was also confident on the edge of bitchy at some times, which Sam had pointed out to her in the past. The aqua-haired girl couldn't imagine that her friend would take too lightly to being called 'easy' by someone she didn't really like. So it was no surprise to see the fire form at her fingertips. Animals generally feared fire, seeing as it was the great destroyer.

Being someone with the DNA and natures of several different species, Sam felt her body slightly tense up at the sight of flames so close. She tried to take another sip from her cup in an attempt to cover her discomfort, though she wasn't sure that it worked. Human Sam couldn't care less about the fire. But the animals? They were terrified. Nevertheless, Samara crossed her arms over her chest, glancing at Anita with a warning gaze. "Anita, chill. Getting kicked out of your final year for hurting someone doesn't seem like a great idea."

Finnegan Chambers.

  • Damn his inability to speak to women. For someone who took pride in generally being the smartest person in a room, Finnegan despised how his social skills had never been quite up to par. Ever since he was a kid, with few friends of his own and generally the only social interactions he had were with faculty and staff, he had always thought he was a bit different. Like his maturity level qualified him to run in social circles above his own age group. That wasn't the case, however. As he had learned, making friendships and other types of relationships with those in the same age group were important for emotional development, something he very clearly lacked in. So, the stuttering of his words brought a chagrin to his cheeks, and Finn dropped his gaze in an attempt to hide his embarrassment.

Honestly, he wouldn't have been surprised if Lyla turned around and walked away then and there, ignoring him for the rest of their time at IvyRose. Finn did consider Dante a friend. But he wasn't entirely sure that Lyla's brother felt these same way. A smile crept on to his lips as Lyla responded, her soft chuckle lightening the tension in the air a bit. "Right, r-relax," Finn answered with a shrug. "That's something I'm d-definitely good at." At the mention of Dante, Finn immediately turned to glance around the rest of the party, wondering where their dark-haired friend could have disappeared to already. To be honest, he had probably already found Riley and the rest of their small gang, intent on making the night one to remember, but forgetting because of drugs.

"Yeah, and Riley. But I haven't seen either of them yet. Any ideas?" Lyla's words about starting over caught him off guard. She had always been the quiet type, maybe cold to some. He of course had heard her story, one that was tragic but sadly common among the gifted. Children with powers hardly know how to control them well, and others in the middle often get hurt. Finnegan wanted to ask her what she meant, if she was okay, but decided against it. "I don't know, m-my father is the only family I have. He says it's my d-destiny to take over this school one d-day," Finn answered, shrugging his shoulders as nonchalantly as he could.

Truth be told, he would love to be able to get out of IvyRose, to travel to other places and see the world. He wasn't entirely sure he wanted to become a headmaster, let alone a leader. But Headmaster Chambers rarely asked his son what he thought and what he wanted. Angry voices caught Finnegan's attention, and he turned to find Dante and Sebastian chest to chest, anger clear on their faces. "Lyla, look," Finn stated, gesturing to the crowd that was forming. "Looks like we've got trouble, that c-certainly can't be good. We should do something."

Lyla

loner

The thing about being alone was just that. You were alone. Sure, no one could hurt you, and you couldn't hurt anyone else, at least not easily. But being alone got lonely. Humans were social creatures by nature, even gifted ones. Though that didn't mean everyone was a social butterfly, it was nearly impossible to go through life without having some sort of relationship with someone. Whether platonic or otherwise, you were bound to have something with someone. And for a long time, Lyla thought she was alright with Dante being her only somebody. But if she were being honest with herself, that was no longer the case, but old habits were hard to break.

A slow smile spread on her face as she told him to relax and he shrugged, obviously anything but relaxed. She wasn't sure whether it was her presence that unnerved him or just people in general, but he wasn't fleeing for the hills, so she decided to take that as a good sign. When he asked about Riley and Dante, Lyla just returned his earlier shrug with one of her own. "Causing trouble somewhere, I have no doubt." She glanced around automatically as well, though she didn't see them through the crowd. Maybe that was a good thing. Maybe someone could actually keep them out of trouble for once.

Shifting her gaze back to Finn, she'd voiced the thoughts that had been weighing heavily on her mind recently, being more honest with him than she intended. But again, he didn't flee the scene, and she felt herself relax some. If this is what socializing was like, maybe it wasn't so bad. When he mentioned how his father felt about Finn's future, she couldn't help but let out a sound that was a mixture between a laugh and a scoff. "Is that what you want?" She asked him point blank, crossing her arms as she lifted a brow in his direction. "If I had to take a guess, I'd say it's not."

As if life just had to prove her wrong, angry voices caught Finn's attention and it wasn't long before he pointed out the scene at the drink table. Lyla glanced over, her eyes widening when she recognized what was happening. Her arms fell to her sides as a stab of anger coursed through her, and even though she heard the sudden rumble of thunder and knew she was the cause, she couldn't stop the emotions running rampant through her. "That bitch." Sure, Lyla didn't know the whole situation, but she saw Anita with flames at her fingertips and knew she had to be involved, and she was going to get Dante in trouble. Although she wasn't sure why she did it, she suddenly grabbed Finn's wrist and dragged him towards the crowd. "Dante!" Her single word was echoed with yet another crack of thunder, much closer this time.

Dante honestly had no intention of going home with the blonde in the tracksuit, even if it seemed like it. He was quite happy with Anita, even if they weren't anything serious. But he should have known that approaching the new blonde was a surefire way to piss Ani off, but he'd been so focused on fucking up Riley's game that he hadn't thought that far ahead. Nor did he notice the flames dancing in Anita's eyes from behind him. All of his focus was on smirking in Riley's direction, able to read his thoughts clear as day on his friends face. The rest of his focus was on Miya, who proved to be quite interesting from the jump. She made her little sly comment and patted Dante on the chest, causing him to laugh out loud.

She turned to pour two drinks, and only when they were mostly full did she turn back to the two guys. Dante knew immediately that her addressing Anita was a mistake, and he glanced behind him finally and saw the look on Anita's face. "Fu-" Before he could even get the word out, a huge hulk shadow of a man stepped over, blocking Miya from view and causing Dante to turn his head back around, recognizing Sebastian immediately. "-ck." Really? He'd just wanted to have a bit of fun teasing the blonde and fucking up Riley's game, but now that Sebastian was involved things were not going to end pretty.

And Dante was exactly right. Sebastian stepped so close to Dante that their chests were touching, and annoyance flashed in Dante's gaze. "What's the matter, Pierce? Afraid someone might show your friend here what a real man is?" Not intimidated by the other guy, Dante still didn't want to be the one caught for starting shit, so he held up his hands in a mock defensive gesture and stepped back. He dropped his gaze, but it flew right back up to Sebastian when he made his comment about Anita. But before Dante could throw a misguided punch, Anita herself was there, planting herself between the two as angry words flew from her mouth.

Dante was more than willing to let her say her piece, but when she raised her hand with a fireball attached, he knew the time for words was up. "Anita!" He reached for her wrist to pull her back, not roughly, but enough to get his point across and hopefully distract her from throwing the fire. Just as he pulled Anita to him, though, he heard Lyla calling his name. "Fucking christ, Ly, what?" He snapped at his sister as she appeared, thunder rumbling in the distance in her wake. "Stop the storm, Lyla! Nothing is going to happen here. Right, Ani?" He turned his attention to the spitfire in his arms, turning her away from Sebastian. "Come on, let's go."

With all honesty, the evening was going better than expected and Miya was happy that she managed to come to the bonfire party and even drag Sebastian along. The atmosphere seemed more than friendly with Miya already making two new friends without even doing anything. She just went to grab some cups and already two cute boys were standing lined up next to her, making the cutest, cringiest remarks at her address. Leaving out the spiked drink of course. That was not cool at all and knowing her friendly demeanor, Miya would have probably accepted the drink from Riley. Seeing that the guys shared a little bit of friendly rivalry, the blondie sensed that she might have found herself some cheeky competition to keep her mischievous little self occupied throughout the boring school days.

The ladies in the back were, however, giving her a totally different vibe. Mainly the brown-haired girl as it seemed she did not enjoy Miya’s little remark her way, contrary to the green-haired one next to her, who was even so nice that she engaged back. What was the brown-haired girl’s problem, Miya had no idea? At least not until Dante turned his head back and was half-way through cursing. It all clicked by then and when Sebastian appeared and confirmed her assumption with his words, Miya was more than sure that the grumpy face on brownie’s face was caused by the fact that Dante was there with her that evening. To be fair, Miya would probably be upset too if her date did the same thing to her.

Although she knew Sebastian for years and was more than familiar with his ways, his remark on brownie practically being the school’s slut caught her by surprise. She knew Sebastian was harsh and had no filter, but no way she had known he acted the same way around other people, too. If it was physically possible, Miya could have sworn that her mouth would have dropped all the way to China at that moment. However, the shock quickly faded and Miya was now standing behind Sebastian, with her hand on her mouth, trying to hold in the laughter that was ripping her from inside. Knowing Sebastian and his tendency to exaggerate things, the brownie was probably far from being a slut and that is what Miya found so funny. To her, the whole situation seemed very innocent because she knew Sebastian and thought all the others knew him, too, hence would not make a big deal out of it and just conclude with him being cringy.

However, the opposite was true and once Miya noticed Dante lifting his arms in a defensive gesture, she knew the situation was not looking good. For neither of them. But it was none of her business. If the boys wanted to fight, let them fight. She did not come there to babysit either of them and if they wanted to beat the shit out of each other, then sure, be her guests. For all she knew, it could even get exciting. Provided that they were both gifted, maybe she was in for a Marvel Cinematic Universe type of battle. For free. So like...can someone point her to the front row? Thanks.

Her decision not to get involved changed all of a sudden and she had the brownie to thank. Miya had absolutely no problem with guys bickering and trying to prove whose cock was bigger but when that little “Karen” dared to kick both Sebastian and HER out of the party, Miya felt that it has been a long time since someone stood up to the entitled girl and it showed. For all she knew, Miya had done nothing to her and she could not stand when people were rude to others for no reason.

As soon as Anita finished her monologue, Miya stood between her and Sebastian. Facing Sebastian she wrapped her arms around his body - mid-waist as she was a lot shorter than her friend - and tried to talk some sense into him. “Walk away, Sebastian” she asked him politely, but Sebastian just broke her embrace with his arms as he spread out his arms. Not to be the person to give up easily, she embraced him once again and pleaded once more for him to walk away from the situation. The “please” at the end seemed to work and Sebastian started walking away from the group, the way he came before.

Miya then turned her attention to Anita, addressing her directly. “I’m sorry, what were you saying? I was not listening,” she flashed a fake smile her way, pretending she was not paying attention to Anita’s little breakdown. What she had learned over the years was that what angers people like this more than talking back is absolute ignorance. Who the hell she thought she was? Miya then grabbed Anita’s hand, the one with the fireball, by her wrist and pulled it towards herself. “Here, before you hurt yourself,” she said as she poured the content of her red cup over Anita’s fireball, putting it off completely. Only then she went onto catching up with Sebastian.

Sebastian Pierce

The night was going as bad as expected, but it was of no surprise to Sebastian. He knew the moment he set his foot out of his house that he was in for a shitstorm. He was the persona non grata everywhere he went so it was just a matter of time before someone would have provoked him. It almost seemed like boys at IvyRose had found themselves a new hobby. Especially Dante and Riley. Just the thought of the two made him clench his teeth. That is why his blood started boiling the moment he saw them talking to Miya. He was determined they would not pay any attention to her, sporting that tracksuit outfit, finding her completely asexual. But what he saw on Dante’s and Riley’s face was far away from mockery. The two were looking at his frie.. Miya like a pack of wolves is looking at secluded prey. Did they not have enough of their other girls? Why could they not just leave Miya alone?

First, there was Riley who was known to have his way with girls and Sebastian was sure had no need for another addition to his harem. And then, Dante, who was a chapter all alone. Everyone knew he had a thing going on with Anita, in Sebastian’s objective opinion, one of the most gorgeous girls at IvyRose - the other ones being Lyla, who was his sister, so naturally, she was out of the question, and the second one being Samara, someone Dante had too small of a ballsack to even try to tame. But hey, he still got one of them so why would he even eye Miya. Did he really need to prove himself so badly?

Determined to put a stop to their advances, Sebastian made his way to the group and couldn't care less if he had come and joined the conversation uninvited. He had seen enough and so did Miya. The two were going home, no discussion. He should have known that his remark would not be left without a response from Dante, but it caught him a little off guard. When Dante mentioned the thing about showing Miya what a real man was, his mind was suddenly flooded with flashes of himself and Miya in intimate situations, which brought a little red hue into Sebastian’s cheeks. His train of thoughts was interrupted when Anita intervened and started yapping her insults left and right like a little angry chihuahua. Because that is exactly what she was to Sebastian at that moment with her stature almost two heads shorter than him. With every word that left her mouth, Sebastian felt his body tensing up, knowing she had crossed the line a long time ago. Although he could have nailed her into the ground with just two swings of a fist, she was there, not holding back and for at least that, she had Sebastian’s respect. He was used to resistance from the boys but he could easily say Anita was the only girl that was not afraid to confront him face to face. However, the admiration was not as big as to overshadow the anger that was spilling inside of him with every shriek of her voice.

Once she ended, Sebastian was ready to grab Anita by her hair and drag her into the lake to make her cool off a bit. Maybe hold her underwater for a second or two if met with resistance. Before he could execute his fantasies, he felt someone’s arms wrap around his body, but Sebastian was so pissed off that he did not even bother to look the person in the face as his eyes were still glued to Anita’s, piercing her through and through. Sebastian spread his arms to make himself loose from the other person’s grip, when he felt the same arms wrap around him again, this time bringing his attention with them. He should have known it was Miya. For some reason, she wanted them to walk away, and although a small gesture, it made Sebastian succumb to her wishes.

Hearing what Anita had said just a while ago about no one wanting him there, Sebastian realized what Miya had been doing for him all these years. Despite how harsh he had always been with her, she always stayed, always had a nice word to spare, always trying to make him feel included and Sebastian concluded that letting her have this evening, not causing any trouble, was something he could do in return. Listening to her plea, Sebastian turned around and started walking back to the log he came from, hoping Miya had already seen what a bunch of assholes Dante and his pack were and would be the one to suggest that it was time to call it quits and go home.

Feeling a wet sensation on his hand, Sebastian lifted it up to examine it, and only then he found out that he had been hurt. He did not need to wonder how it happened as the shards that were still stuck in his palm gave it away almost immediately. He started plucking out the shards with his fingers and got so immersed that he did not pay any attention to what Miya was doing behind his back. He even had no idea she was not right behind him the whole time so when she appeared next to him, he was not even surprised by it. “Heal me” he stopped and stretched his hand towards Miya as he knew very well she could do that with her waterbending skills when the moon was up and shining.

bitch

One thing was for sure. Anita Villareal was not used to people opposing her, quite the contrary. In her junior year, she already managed to have a little freshman minion who brought her coffee every morning. The little thing was either so very much frightened of the fiery Latina or loved doing it because there was not one day she would be late. Every single morning, the second Anita closed her locker, Amber was there, holding her grande, iced sugar-free vanilla latte with soy milk, ready for another day. And maybe she just admired Ani so much that she was hoping the brunette would take her under her wing and teach her how to become the royalty. Don’t get it wrong, Ani could be obnoxious entitled self-centered bitch but she could also be nice and as long as Amber was doing her job, Ani kept patting her little blonde head.

But now, here she was, basically just standing there, doing nothing. Fuck, she had so many things to say about Sebastian and his bad attitude and yet, she just kept standing by Sammy’s side, all she did was glare. And that big hunk decided to bad-mouth her? Oh, hell to the no. Hell to the fucking no. Her Hispanic blood boiled, burned her veins alongside the fire and she flew over there, pushing her small frame between Dante and Sebastian. Her finger jabbed at his chest as the words were flowing from her lips and it felt like the time stopped. Ani had no idea when it happened but suddenly, her hand was on fire and she knew she was ready to throw the ball, not caring about the consequences.

Sammy’s voice reached her, warning her not to screw up her senior year. But damn, she was ready to screw it up if it meant Sebastian Pierce was finally taught his lesson. Her eyes were burning with fury, glistening with all that rage growing inside of her. Another voice cut through the air and Anita recognized her annoying roommate, Dante’s sister, the little weirdo, screaming Dante’s name. Her own gaze never left Sebastian’s face as the thunder started to rumble over them. And then Dante called her name. Why the fuck was everyone calling her name? Why were they all yelling? She could just end this here and now. But Dante apparently didn’t think so when his fingers wrapped around her wrist, pulling her closer to him, making her turn her back on the prick. Ani raged on, wiggled, trying to get out of Dante’s grip. “Nothing is gonna happen once the fucker’s gone.” she snapped but if they all thought the circus was over, they were all gravely mistaken.

It was the blonde who approached Anita now and took her hand, chirping some bullshit Ani was not interested in. She was just irritated that the girlie was touching her. Her palm was still on fire when the non-alcoholic punch hit it and extinguished the flames. The audacity. That rage, still alive inside of Anita, reached astronomic level and though Dante was still holding her, ani only lost a second when she became the most furious she’d ever been. That bitch! Her right hand was wet and sticky from the liquid but she lifted her left, formed another ball of fire and threw it without hesitation. Her left hand was a bit clumsier, not as trained as the right and that was probably Miya’s luck. The fireball flew an inch by her head, maybe just touching a hair or two, causing no serious damage. It got lost in the distance but Anita didn’t care where it went. She just knew she wanted to scratch her eyes out but Dante was holding her way too tight. Though it didn’t mean she was not trying to get to Miya, squirming in his grip while yelling all Spanish insults that popped up in her head.

It might have been the combination of weed, alcohol and molly but Riley’s world was incredibly slow. Well, might have been. It definitely was that. All the boy wanted tonight was to have some fun with his friends, get drink and high, come up with some dangerous shit of a challenge to pose to Samara and fail miserably while doing it and then he would probably find himself a girl to warm his bed that night. The plan was nice and it certainly seemed it was all going well at first. Until the blonde girl came. Maybe it would have been better if she had never come to the table but then again, even in his drug-induced haze Riley knew that she was not the one to blame. None of that was really her fault, she was possibly there to have fun as well. And judging by her witty comments, she was doing just that.

It was not her fault that Pierce came closer and started to stick his ugly face in matters that he was not supposed to. Who the hell did he think he was? Even high as a private jet, Riley was ready and only waited for Dante’s cue. It was his friend Sebastian was after but Riley was going to stick up for him as well. No matter how blurry his sight was at this point, he was pretty sure that he and Dante could have taken the Hulk down easily. But before they had a chance, Sebastian made a mistake of calling Anita cheap and there she was, moving at the speed of sound, the firecracker approached him and launched her rant, ending it with a fiery hand. Riley just made sure Dante saw it, the scene got two more spectators when Lyla and Finn joined them and the skies bellowed as Lyla was ready to make a move.

Thank god Dante managed to pull Ani away and Riley let out the breath he didn’t even know he was holding. “See? All good, right? Let’s be frie---” He never got to finish that sentence as Miya approached Anita, batting her thick eyelashes, speaking in the gentlest voice. But something in that voice made the tiny hair at the back of Riley’s head stand. And for good reason. Miya decided to poke the dragon girl even more when she doused the fire with her drink and that was the end. There was no chance Ani was going to remain calm after that.

For now, Riley was just a silent observer but his jaw dropped when the ball of fire actually flew from Anita’s hand. His eyes widened and the world became slow. He would swear that he saw the ball move for days right there as it slightly grazed Miya’s hair. And one more thing was clear. Sebastian was not going to leave the assault just like that. With an exasperated sigh, Riley turned to the drink table and got himself a full cup of that non-alcoholic punch. There was definitely going to be a fight now and he just had to sober up for a moment. “You better get ready, mate.” he mumbled towards Dante, downed the full cup and threw it away, balling his fists hard, awaiting the attack or any other expression of rage from the outgoing couple.

Samara Seabrook.

  • Animal instinct was a rather interesting concept. There was a reason humans were the animal most like to get ulcers. They worried not only about the present, but also the past of things that couldn't be changed, and the future of things that couldn't be predicted. Because, at the end of the day, humans were the most unpredictable. Human nature had separated itself from animal nature. Animals attack out of necessity, either protecting themselves or their own. Humans? Well, they could kill at the drop of a hat, no warning or real reason needed. Those were a few of the reasons while Samara let her more go-with-the-flow, impulsive tendencies fuel her choices. Not only was it her chance to live in the moment and enjoy what was in front of her. But it also allowed her to be more in touch with that 'animal instinct' side she possessed in an attempt to understand and control it. So far, given her time at IvyRose, it had seemed to work.

But the appearance of fire combined with the onset of a rather angry storm tested that control. Sam felt her entire body tense, watching the exchanges between Miya and Anita, Sebastian and Dante with careful inquisition. They were almost finished, almost graduated, and able to decide what they wanted to do with their lives. The shapeshifter didn't want any of her friends to fuck that up over something as stupid as a drunken party brawl. Thankfully, however, Dante attempted to reign in Anita, and Miya was able to talk Sebastian into walking away. Everything seemed to be calming down, the fires and storms seeming to fade. Samara relaxed her muscles, letting out a breath she didn't realize she had been holding. The plastic cup in her hand was nearly crushed, but reformed a bit when she relaxed her fist. Deciding she needed the boost, she downed the rest of the cocktail and tossed the cup into a nearby trash bin.

Any semblance of hope she had for a peaceful end to the evening was crushed under the realization that Miya and Anita were not quite done with their mean girl feud. They must have known that their actions would annoy the other potentially to the point of revenge. So, when Miya dumped the drink on Anita's hand and turned to leave, Samara knew that the action would only reignite her fiery friend's flame. Partially on instinct, she felt her body begin to change. Bones cracked and shifted, into place. At one point in her life, the pain of her shifts had been so overbearing that she did her best to avoid shifts. But since then, her tolerance had increased, and the pain was only a dull thud on her radar. After a few moments, the aqua-haired women in shorts and a tank top had become a perfectly-patterned Siberian tiger, prepared to pounce.

Finnegan Chambers.

  • Finnegan wasn't entirely sure what he could or should do in that situation. He wasn't the type to fight, though his gifted abilities did have some offensive implications. When he realized he was a meta-learner, the brunette had been rather excited. He hadn't really wanted a physical ability, one that could be coerced and used as a weapon if the situation presented itself. He knew about his father's interest in control technology and worried about what that might mean for the future of all gifted. So meta-learning was right up his alley. But unfortunately, he wouldn't be so lucky. Instead, his father caught him in the library that day, taking a computer apart and willing it back together. From that moment on, Headmaster Chambers forced his son to take on responsibilities that a child shouldn't. And Finnegan did as he was told.

Finn could tell from Lyla's expression that she was pissed, only accented by the claps of thunder over their heads. He wasn't quite sure what to think, knowing that most of the people involved in this situation had gifted abilities affected by emotional control. And, according to the psychology textbooks he had read over the years, none of them were of the age where their brains were developed enough for complete emotional control just yet. "Lyla, I don't think we--" the brunette began to say in an attempt to convince her that they shouldn't get involved. Instead, however, he was cut off by the pissed woman grabbing his wrist and dragging him toward the drinks table.

Panic set in as Finnegan's light brown eyes slid across the mostly angry faces of his friends and acquaintances. He knew inevitably where a fight of this size would lead: detention. And not the easy, sit quietly in a room and do nothing detention. But punishment detention. Lyla's grip on his wrist was slightly painful, but he didn't force her to release, hoping that maybe her grip would allow her to hold some sort of control over her powers. Instead, he felt a tingling in his fingertips, searching for all the technology in the area. While most students had their cell phones on them, and there were some cars not too far off, he was majorly in a cyber desert. There wasn't a whole lot for him to work with, not quickly anyway. And even if there was, Finn wasn't entirely sure that he wanted to take part in a physical altercation.

"G-guys," he said, his voice faltering and not quite loud enough to be heard over everyone else, "We all j-just need to take a st-step back and calm down!" As hard as he tried, he probably just sounded like a weak kid, and there was no way anyone would listen to him. Anita, unable to be entirely restrained by Dante, launched her fireball off into the air. And while it didn't hit anything, it probably wouldn't go unanswered. Sam, who hadn't been far from Finn and Lyla, began to shift, the sounds slightly grotesque but the outcome a beautiful beast. On any other occasion, he would be in awe of such an interesting creature. But instead, his heart raced in anxiety and panic. No doubt some time soon the school guards or faculty would appear and force everyone into their place. But how many would be hurt before they got there? Finnegan could only hope none.

Lyla

loner

Although Lyla really had no idea what was going on, she could see the flames dancing around Anita's fingertips and knew that the fiery Latina could only cause trouble. She honestly had no idea why Dante wanted to be around her so much, because the girl was nothing but trouble, and she'd voiced her opinion on the girl many times. But Dante would always just shrug, and tell her to mind her business, that one day she'd understand. Though she sincerely doubted that, she let it go, usually. But not this time.

Tempers were flaring and Lyla could feel the intensity of the brewing storm in her very core, but she couldn't stop it. She didn't know why she'd grabbed Finn to bring with her; it had just been a reflex action, really. She held onto him even as Dante snapped at her, causing Lyla to narrow her eyes in frustration. She watched as he tried to calm Anita down, but all that resulted in was the girl throwing a fireball at the blonde that Ly didn't recognize. Dante cursed again, and Lyla saw his eyes go completely black as he called to the shadows that he controlled. Black clouds started to seep out of his hands, thick as a heavy blanket being draped over the entire area.

Thunder rolled again in the sky, directly above the bonfire now, and lightning struck somewhere nearby as Dante's heavy shadows hid everything from view. The lightning lit up the area for a second just as the rain started pouring from the sky, almost heavier than the smoke. People were running for cover now, though from the rain, the storm, or the smoke, Lyla wasn't sure. She was soaked to the bone within seconds, and her eyes flashed dangerously as lightning struck again. She heard someone scream, but she couldn't see what had happened. She felt her heart skip a beat; what if she'd hurt someone?

Immediately, the anger she felt dissipated, and she released Finn's wrist. Stumbling backwards, she bumped into someone or something, though she had no idea which one it was. She couldn't see anything anymore, though whether that was her own fault or Dante's, she didn't know. "Dante!" She cried out for her brother, the only person she knew of who could ground her. She'd seen Sam turn into a beautiful Siberian tiger, and she sincerely hoped that wasn't who she'd bumped into. Spinning around, she bit down hard on her bottom lip as she struggled to contain the storm within her and whipping around them all.

Dante

Dante was no stranger to Anita's attitude and her temper. He'd seen them both before, and hell, had even been on the receiving end of her bitching more than once. In fact, he was sure he'd be on the opposite side of it later, after what had transpired not too long before. He'd only wanted to fuck up Riley's game, but now it seemed like the entire night was fucked. Even though he seemed to halfway get Anita under control, the blonde chick just had to add fuel to the fire. And sure enough, that just pissed Ani off more, and then fucking Lyla had to get involved.

Trying to think fast, he felt the darkness within him take over, causing his eyes to go black as the smoke and shadows started to seep out of his hands. It was fast work on his part, filling the area with dark smoke that he hoped would stop the shitstorm before it began. But unfortunately, that didn't happen. Ani threw her fireball, hurling it past the blondes head just before he started with the smoke, and next thing he knew, it was dark except for a flash of lightning. "Fuck!" And then the rain started, and the thunder rumbled above them all as Lyla's storm became uncontrollable.

He continued to hold onto Anita, though his head turned towards where the others had been. He'd seen Sam transform before everything went dark, and he sincerely hoped that her animal instincts wouldn't take over with everything going on. He doubted Anita would continue fighting in the dark. Jesus, when Riley had told him he better get ready, he hadn't realized he meant for this. "Anita, we need to get the fuck out of here or we're all gonna be fucked." The fucking molly in his system was not helping, and he was now regretting taking the candy shaped drug as his thinking was sluggish, and he felt disoriented more than he should.

Hearing his name being called, his head snapped in the direction he thought it was coming from. He recognized the voice as Lyla's, but he honestly had no idea where she was. The bonfire was definitely out now, the open area dark as fuck, and there was a god damn tiger around here somewhere. "Riley!" He shouted, pulling Anita to him more, wanting to ensure that he wouldn't lose her too. "Find Lyla, don't get eaten by the god damn tiger, and fucking run!" He looked down, able to make out Anita's face some in the dark. "Why'd you throw that fireball, Ani?" He groaned, trying to move now, tugging her with him. "We gotta go..."

Although Miya was not afraid to butt heads with people, getting into conflict was a completely different thing. It was something she actively avoided as she had no interest in spending her precious time on anything that was not fun or against the rules. However, when the fiery Latina decided to put Miya’s name into her mouth, Miya just could not stand there and let her do that. She did not do anything bad after all and even tried to engage in a friendly conversation with her. How the fuck was she supposed to know the man she laid her hands on was her plaything? Could not the Latina figure out she could not have had an idea being the new girl she was? Miya was no genius either, but she could at least put these variables together.

Now that she was feet away from the heat zone and started thinking with a clearer mind, she had to admit she did not have to take it that far as to pour that drink on Anita’s hand but she had it coming with that attitude of hers. Was she willing to apologize, Miya was happy to return the favour and apologize as well. Anyhow, the damage has been done and Miya has certainly learned from whom to stay away. If only it was not so intriguing to play with them and try to stir some chaos just for the fun of it.

Once she managed to catch up with Sebastian, he caught her off guard with his hand soaked in blood. Although Miya knew it was not hurting, it surely looked horrifying. ”Heal me,” he requested but without success as he was very well aware of Miya’s resolution not to use her waterbending powers ever again. Healing included. ”No,” she said and started looking around for some tissue or a piece of fabric she could wrap Sebastian’s hand in when she heard him repeat his request. “I told you, I am not going to. It is not my fault that y-” her reply was cut abruptly by a fireball flying past her head, missing it only by a few inches.

Miya did not even have to turn around to figure out what the source was, but she did so anyway, though out of a completely different reason. It was one thing to bicker like they did over at the drink table, but taking it that far as to use one’s special abilities to assault another student… Was that little pyromaniac completely out of her mind? Miya was so furious that she did not even notice the chaos that ensued behind her in the meantime. All she could pay attention to in that rage driven tunnel vision that took hold of her was the little Latina and the Spanish train of insults coming Miya’s way. “The fuck is that rubbish?! Did you have a fucking stroke or something?!” she yelled at Anita as she was ready to start running at her, giving her a high kick in the head or whatever, when all of a sudden she felt Sebastian’s hand grabbing her around her arm, which was a bad sign, that much Miya knew already. But before she could try to stop Sebastian, he pushed her to the side, making her land a good seven feet away from him. There was no way stopping him now and Miya could only hope he would not unleash mayhem at the party.

Picking out a shard of glass from his hand, Sebastian had it with the night and the people at the party. How come he was the only one being injured when he did nothing wrong. He was not the one to start all that and yet here he was, picking out a second shard from his hand with at least three bigger ones to go. As always, Dante and Riley had to come ruining everyone’s night, sticking their noses where they should not and as always, Sebastian had to bear the consequences. But at least now he had Miya’s healing powers at his disposal to rid him of suffering a week in bandages.

Hearing her refuse his request, Sebastian was in disbelief. Was she still on her little protest of refusing to use her powers? How much longer was she going to keep that cowardly attitude? Not taking “no” for an answer, Sebastian repeated his request but was met with the same answer as before. And with a fireball flying their way, missing Miya only by inches. A present from Miss Anita, he figured.

Sebastian was a person to lose his temper very easily and it was safe to say that he was ready to jump at Anita’s throat back there at the drink table when she insulted him and Miya, but seeing Anita actually resorting to using her powers on them, Sebastian was seeing red. Sensibility gave way to rage and from that moment on, all his actions were running on autopilot.

His hands took care of anything that could stand in his way of rampage, hence sending Miya flying seven feet through the air as he tossed her out of his way. His one and only goal was to hurt the three brats and teach them a lesson. Once Miya was cleared from his path, Sebastian walked over to the bonfire and grabbed a burning log right from the middle of it and pulled it out just to hurl it Anita’s way. The whole pile collapsed as the missing log messed up the statics and fire started spreading through the ground, lighting everything it touched on fire. The place was slowly turning into hell.

Continuing walking towards Anita and Dante, Sebastian spread his arms and yelled: “Now, which one of you bitches wants to dance?” With that he lowered his left arm and put the right one in front of him, pointing at Dante to make it clear he was coming for him. Although it was Anita who threw the fireball, Sebastian was going after Dante as the beating was long overdue and he knew that hurting him would hurt Anita as well as they were a thing. Also, why bother with side characters when he could go for the boss fight right away.

Knowing that he was not in possession of gifts that would allow him to gain advantage in a long-range battle, contrary to Dante and Anita, Sebastian knew he had better chances if he managed to engage Dante in a close combat. But even if he succeeded at doing so, Dante still could use his powers to overpower him, hence Sebastian needed a little help to make sure he would cause as much damage as possible in a short time. With that in mind he started pulling out the three big shards of glass that were still left in his hand and started placing them between his knuckles to create a makeshift brass knuckles.

bitch

Things were definitely getting out of hand. And even in her hazy molly-induced state, Anita understood that she was one of the sources. How it all happened, she would not be able to tell right away because drugs, booze and most of all, anger clouded her judgement. All she knew at that very moment was that she wanted to jump the blonde provocateur and hurt her in the most painful of ways. Her fingers tingled with the itch to throw more fireballs and try to aim properly but her right hand was still wet and sticky from the saccharine punch and she didn’t want to risk hurt any of her friends with a misguided fireball shooting from her left hand. And then there was Dante.

His grip was tight and she felt his muscles tense as his arm was snaked around his waist. Noticing a movement from the corner of her eye, she stopped the waterfall of insults to look where Samara had stood before only to notice a gorgeous, magnificent animal in her place. Ani saw her friend transform into many things before but never the Siberian tiger and if the situation wasn’t the pile of shit, she would definitely fall down in awe, gazing upon how good and controlled Sammy became.

And then it all happened at once. Ask her today and she wouldn’t be able to tell you the correct order. Sebastian entered his frenzy state and ruined the bonfire, Miya flew away, then the heavy rain started to fall and there was also darkness, no. Ani was not able to remember anything correctly but all Ani perceived was Dante and his strong grip for which she was more than happy all of a sudden. Shit hit the fan so hard that they all were going to be in it up to their ears. People around them ran around frantically, trying to save their lives, disappear from the beach as fast as possible and not even come closer to the group at the drinks table.

Dante took charge, barking orders at everyone and Ani just curled to his chest. All her courage and boldness were gone because this was not how it was supposed to go. Fucking Pierce. Why did he even come? Who asked him to be here? He never talked to anyone, didn’t even like anyone so why on earth would he be here? Was he bored at home? No one to react to his demented provocations? Had he stayed at home, the evening would be amazing, she would get high as fuck, possibly drunk and Dante would take her home so the two could launch the senior year with a bang. Pun intended.

“Don’t let go of me, Dante, or I swear…” she yelled and gripped his soaked shirt hard, ignoring his question. He knew god damn well why she did it and that the blonde bitch deserved more than she left with. “Let’s go then…we should leave before…” Her sentence remained unfinished because once they turned around to leave, her heart sank and for the first time that night, she was seriously terrified.

rebel

Looking around, Riley was already looking for something, anything he could use as a weapon. His fingers vibrated and the drinks table started to shake a little as Riley felt the presence of metal. The table legs were solid iron and he was ready to use it in his favor. His reflexes were on point already thanks to hours, weeks, months…fuck, even years of training now. IvyRose definitely taught him how to control his powers and he got much better that he used to be before. The petty thief stealing shit from convenience stores was now fully fledged weapon and his skills were under control.

He could have relied on Sebastian to wreak havoc. No wonder, Ani almost gave him a full facial right there. Crazy Latina high on molly, fuck that. Right there, the dirty blonde promised himself never to give her anything stronger than weed because if this was going to become a precedent for every party, then Riley was joining the fucking chess club. His eyes followed Sebastian as he approached the bonfire and pulled a burning log out, making the whole fiery pylon crumble down, causing people scream and run. “Fucking retard…” Riley sighed exasperatedly and motioned his hand towards the drinks table. The whole thing started to shake even more until it collapsed, spilling the punch all over the sand. He focused on the metal legs of the object which trembled as he tried to tear them off. Not that easy in his current state. Finally, one of them succumbed to his will and Riley was ready to hurl it at Seb, knock him out or something, but Dante’s voice tore his focus, sending the metal bar to the ground.

But Dante was right. In the whole situation, it was for the best to just run. No one wanted to really fight for blood though Pierce was definitely out for some. Pieces of glass glistened in between his knuckles and Riley knew that it was the last warning. That guy was not normal. Forgetting the bars, his eyes searched for Lyla but before that, he noticed Sam. Or rather, to use Dante’s words, a god damn tiger. “Whoa, Sam! Easy does it, okay?” he called out at the majestic tiger as if the animal was going to understand. Then again, it was Sam. Maybe her animal side didn’t take over fully. “Lyla!” he yelled right after and grabbed his almost sister by the hand. “There you are. Christ, Finn, my boy! Where were you? Come on, both of you, we’re outta here.” he added, seeing his shy protégé and roommate. One hand went around Lyla’s waist, the other took Finn by his shoulders and Riley was ready to get them all away from the beach when he almost became sick.

“We’re so fucked…” he breathed, finding himself face to face the last person he wanted to see. “Finn? How mad do you think your dad is?” he asked the nerdy guy quietly but judging from the furrowed brows and lips forming a thin line, Riley assumed that all of them were in big troubles. Poor Riley was trying hard to focus and sober up because not even the cup of overly sweet punch helped but it was hard. His grip on Lyla and Finn got tighter as Headmaster Chambers approached the group of eight. Well, seven people and one tiger.

“Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. Having fun are we?” he spoke in his typical ice cold voice and his eyes found his son, looking at him with gaze full of disapproval for hanging out with Riley and Dante and the bunch. “Rather not as I see. Let me help you get along then.” Lifting his hand, his fingers made a beckoning gesture and two more man appeared from behind, carrying familiar objects in their hands. “Fuck…” slipped from Riley’s lips because those collars only meant one thing. He was going to beat the living jesus out of Pierce for this.

Samara Seabrook.

  • When she was a child, Samara used to love going to the zoo. It was a time before her mother's tragic diagnosis, and before her father subsequently lost his mind. They used to be a happy family, walking hand in hand from display to display and admiring the different creatures that inhabited them. The big cats had always been her mother's favorite. She had said that they were ethereal creatures, graceful yet deadly. Sam used to stare at them in awe, wondering what it felt like to be a wildcat. Little did she know that one day she would find out. After her mother's death, her father's experimentation revealed her metamorphosis abilities. Unfortunately, that had been his demise, succumbing to the claws and jaws of the very same Siberian tiger that stood on that beach.

Amber eyes scanned the area, watching as the smoky darkness began to take over. While the humans were temporarily blinded, her feline eyesight allowed her to at least be able to make out the shapes and movements of the others on the beach. She moved a few paces across the sand, shaking out her fur. There were a few shouts as the thunder rolled in, no doubt in response to Lyla's increasing anger. In mere seconds, droplets of rain began to soak into her orange and black striped fur. Samara's tail swished in annoyance, not enjoying being wet. Her fur was ruffled in anticipation, waiting and watching to make sure her friends didn't do anything too terribly stupid. She glanced over at Dante as he pulled Anita away then to Riley, narrowing her eyes. Yes, she was a goddamn tiger. But she was still Sam. He would certainly know if she had lost control.

And then, things seemed to get far worse. Miya was not particularly excited about the fireball, but her reaction had a much more detrimental effect on her counterpart. Sam knew Sebastian lost his temper rather easily, he always had. And that would cause him to not only to act with reckless abandon, endangering those around him. But also endangering himself as well. For that reason, he was her target. Samara took off across the sand, her large size allowing her to approach him rather quickly. When she was close enough, the tiger stretched out to pounce. Her large paws pressed against his shoulders, pushing him back into the sand as gently as she could. The large beast stood over him, pressing down with enough weight to hold him in place by not enough to seriously injure him. She stared down at him calmly, knowing that he probably wouldn't attack her with the glass between his fingers and, even if he could, would have to slash through her thick fur before reaching flesh.

Sam's ears flicked back as she heard a familiar, bitter voice that she wasn't too terribly fond of. Ever since she had accepted the offer to attend IvyRose, the headmaster had instilled a nervous feeling in her, like he wasn't being entirely honest. Nevertheless, she wasn't about to stress herself out worrying about it. Stepping off of Sebastian, she turned to face where the older man and his minions stood on the sand. The metal contraptions in their hands made her pause, knowing full well what was in store for them. In some ways, she rather appreciated the collars, knowing that when she wore one, her emotions couldn't cause her to lose control. But at the same time, she despised feeling controlled. Let out a hefty sigh, Samara returned to her human form in a series of breaks and cracks, once against dressed in her shorts and a tank top. Crossing her arms over her chest, she started at the headmaster with mild annoyance, "Is this really necessary?"

Finnegan Chambers.

  • Solely based on all the science manuals and textbooks he had ever read, Finnegan wasn't sure if he would ever be able to understand how their gifted abilities seemed to work. What was it about Lyla that was able to draw in clouds and pull electricity from them? And Dante. How did he gather the shadows and manipulate them to his will? Where did Anita's fire come from and how was Sam able to manipulate her DNA at will? Science was surely advancing, he knew. But each of them was an individual case and, as far as he knew, were unique in their abilities. There wasn't really a way to test and experiment to learn more, as much as he wanted to. So, as Finn watched the black smoke like material begin to move around Dante's fingertips, he couldn't help but stare in interest. At least until he could no longer see, which certainly wasn't aided by the darkening of the sky by Lyla's storm clouds.

Rain began to pour, and shortly thereafter, his striped tee and shorts were clinging to his body, nearly soaked through. Lyla's grip loosened on his wrist and he immediately brought it to his chest, rubbing away the pain. Finn heard her call out to Dante before running directly into him, the storm picking up a bit. Acting on instinct, he wrapped his arms around her, hoping the embrace would comfort her or at least help her calm down some. The nervousness he normally felt around girls had disappeared, instead replaced with his quick-thinking. In a calm tone, he looked at her and said, "You've got to control your emotions, Lyla. You got to calm down. Just breathe, okay? In... Out... In... and out." For the latter part of the sentence, he inhaled and exhaled with each word, hoping that it might help. Riley appeared, catching his attention as he grabbed on to Lyla. "Agreed, let's get--" Finnegan began to say. But unfortunately, he was cut off by a familiar voice.

The brunette froze ever so slightly as his father's voice boomed over the sounds of the party, commanding the attention of all that were in the area. He shivered slightly before turning to face the powerful man, fear clearly on his face. Headmaster Chambers was a terrifying man, capable of things beyond what anyone would dare imagine. Throughout his life, Finn had seen bits and pieces of those things, and he was certain he didn't want to see more. "Definitely fucked," Finn agreed quietly, pressing his lips together. His father continued down the beach, a few members of his staff in tow with several contraptions in their hands. This is what Finn had fear, knowing full well what those were and what he was about to be commanded to do. He nearly flinched when Sam spoke up, human again questioning his father without fear of the consequences. The headmaster narrowed his eyes at the aqua-haired girl. "Trust me, dear. This is quite necessary."

With that, Headmaster Chambers turned his gaze on his son, and Finn let out a sigh, walking over to his father's side. "Finnegan, if you would please," the older man said, and he had no choice but to agree. "Yes, sir." Lifting a hand, the collars in the henchmen's hands shuddered before levitating into the air. Based solely on his mental influence, the clasps of the collars unhooked and floated to each of the seven members involved in that night's event. Finn hated that he was the one to have to do it, but he couldn't say no to his father. The collars wrapped around the necks of friends and strangers alike, locking closed with a cathartic snap. Headmaster Chambers clapped his hands together in satisfaction, glaring at his students. "Thank you, son. Hopefully, you all will learn to use your powers responsibly. You all will report to detention, I hope you're happy with yourselves."

Lyla

loner

Things were quickly spiraling out of control, and Lyla was struggling to contain her emotions and the storm she'd created. Dark smoke settled over the area as well and she knew that was Dante's doing. It was thick at first, making it that much harder to see. When the smoke started to lift, her storm was still raging, soaking herself and everyone else to the bone. People were running; she kept getting bumped into as people tried to flee the area, either wanting to avoid punishment or the possibility of getting hurt. She squinted through the rain and the disappearing smoke, seeing a hulking figure heading for Dante and Anita. When she realized what was happening, she screamed his name and ended up running right into someone.

She felt arms wrap around her, but they didn't feel like her brothers. Still, the embrace managed to calm her some, and through the heavy storm she could hear Finn's voice. "Control my emotions. Calm down." She repeated, unsure whether the wetness on her face was from the rain or her own tears. She could hear him trying to help her breathe, and despite everything, she laughed. The sound was so foreign to her own ears that she forgot the stress and anxiety for a moment, and that was enough to mostly calm the raging storm around them. Her hands found his arms as she leaned forward some, tilting her head forward to press her forehead against his. Before she could say anything though, she felt someone grab her hand, recognizing Riley's voice.

Riley's arm slid around her waist and they all turned to leave. But then Riley stopped dead in his tracks, causing the other two to stop as well. Looking up, Lyla felt her blood run cold when she recognized Finn's father. His voice displayed his clear disappointment for the whole situation, but that was nothing compared to how Lyla felt when he beckoned for the other two men to step forward, each holding a couple of objects in their hands that Lyla recognized. Not from experience, as her emotions had never gotten quite this out of control here, but she'd heard of them for sure. When Headmaster Chambers turned his gaze to Finn, Lyla's eyes traveled in that direction, too. He didn't seem happy about what he had to do, and it crossed Lyla's mind that she hadn't even got to thank him for helping her relax.

Closing her eyes, Lyla felt the collar snap around her neck a few moments later. It hung heavy there, a reminder that she'd failed. Or at least, that's how she saw it. Her eyes reopened as the headmaster mentioned detention. Once it was clear he'd gotten his point across, he turned to march off, and Lyla just watched him go. A whole week of wearing these blasted collars, and detention on Saturday. Without a word, Lyla was the first to break away from the group, hurrying back to the dorms where she could change out of her wet clothes and into something warmer, crawl under her blankets and spend the night there.

Dante didn't really expect an answer from Anita for why she'd thrown the fireball, and honestly, that was fine with him. As long as they got the fuck out of here before shit got too deep. Through the storm, he could hear and see Sebastion, and that just made him hold Ani tighter. His own temper was getting the best of him, but as long as he held onto her, she could keep him grounded and keep him from running up to that hulk bastard and punching them square in the nose. Hearing Anita's words to not let her go, he just nodded, turning them away. His smoke had already cleared for the most part, and he'd sent Riley to go find Lyla so that they could get the hell out of here, but it was too late. When he turned, there stood Headmaster Chambers, two men behind him.

Dante had half a mind to bat the collar away as Finn made it float towards him, but instead of making things worse, he just let the collar snap around his neck like the others. Standing there, one arm still around Anita, he was positively fuming. Once the headmaster was done with them, he left, and Lyla was the first to break away from the group and leave. He felt a pang in his chest as he watched his sister leave, not saying a word to anybody. He sighed and glanced down at Ani, feeling his anger fade away some as he looked into her eyes. "Come on. We have a long week ahead of us; we should get some sleep." He murmured, glancing towards the others as he started walking with her back towards the dorms. So much for his high.

The week went by slowly, and Dante dreaded Saturday more than he'd ever dreaded a weekend before. The classrooms were pretty much empty on Saturday, same as the school building itself as he made his way to the classroom they'd been told to come to. Saturday detentions were pretty much all day long, and even with his troublemaking history, he'd never had one before. He had no idea what to expect as he slowly ambled along the hallways, hands in his pockets, pissed off look on his face. Maybe Riley would have something to help the day go by faster.

With a heavy sigh, he turned into the assigned classroom and looked at the others gathered there before he made his way to the back, plopping down in a seat and throwing his legs over the desk. His eyes drifted to Lyla, who sat over by the window, about halfway back. She wasn't looking at him, nor had she talked to him all week. He rolled his eyes as he shifted his attention elsewhere, not finding anything interesting to look at. There wasn't a person of authority in here yet, which he found somewhat odd, but maybe they'd show up after everyone had arrived. Tilting his head back to stare at the ceiling, he sighed heavily. "Can we get this shit over with yet?"

Ever since that fireball, it seemed like someone had set the speed to 5 times the normal flowing of time and the whole thing just became a puzzle of various small events. Miya was not able to make a continuous timeline of them, all that was left in her head looked like some variation on a recap of your favourite show’s last episode. There was the fireball, then she flew a couple of feet and found herself on the ground. Then she remembered yelling at Sebastian to not do whatever he was planning on doing and then, the fire. No, the rain. Or was it after the whole ground got covered in flames? Or did both happen after the darkness fell on the whole scenery? Miya could not tell. She just knew these things happened. She saw them with her very own eyes. And a tiger! There was a beautiful Siberian tiger there, too. One of her fellow students must have turned into it and Miya thought it was the most amazing thing she had ever seen. Not only was the tiger utterly majestic but the ability itself was very impressive. Fire, water, telekinesis… they were all cool but too mainstream. Nothing to make you forget everything else out of pure awe. That was Miya at that moment. The tiger, standing on top of Sebastian, was so magnetizing that she could not help but stare at it, paying attention to nothing else.

But then the scene changed, and once the metal collar landed around the tiger’s neck, Miya snapped out of her admiration trance. Only then she noticed another one of those metal collars flying her way, but it was too late. Within seconds, she felt the accessory wrap its cold arms around her neck, locking itself tightly with a loud click. Miya’s hands automatically shot up to her neck, her fingers wrapping around the collar, pulling as hard as they could, trying to release her from its claws, but to no avail. She did not have a proper look at it before it closed upon her and for all she knew, it could have cut her head clean off. When her hands failed her, she started scanning the place to make any sense out of the whole situation, noticing that one was decorating Sebastian’s neck, too. And the Latina's neck and that cute tattooed guy and everyone else who got involved in that little brawl.

With Sebastian and all the rest being out of speaking range, Miya had to look around herself to find out whether there was anyone she could ask about the metal thingy on her neck and that is when she noticed three seriously looking men. Miya had no idea who the two on the sides were, but she could recognize Headmaster Chambers from her entrance interview from earlier. He was talking to some guy, who was as pale as the moon that night. Well, he surely did not come to deliver good news about his scholarship, that was for sure.

“Hey! Pst! What are these?” she asked a couple standing nearby, pointing at the collar on her neck. “Disability collars,” the girl answered like it was some kind of general knowledge. Once the girl saw that the confused look was not leaving Miya’s face she added that the collars would give you an electric shock if you used your ability. Hearing that, Miya started laughing uncontrollably, her diaphragm soon aching as she could not stop herself. She could not believe how lucky she got. Using her powers was something she was not planning on doing anytime soon, like within the next 20 years, so apart from having to wear that tasteless metal thing, there was nothing bad in it. Sebastian would not feel any pain from the shocks so she guessed the only ones being really punished were the Latina and the rest of the involved. But mostly the self-proclaimed Latino queen of the world and Miya could die laughing. Like hell, if she throws another sneaky fireball her way.

----

“This is the stupidest idea you have ever had,” she heard Sebastian complain as they were walking towards the detention classroom. Miya knew he was not happy about the idea from the start but he should have thought about it before he asked her to heal him. She had absolutely no interest in doing that, healing his hands after the bonfire incident, let alone with that collar on her neck that was giving her shocks every time she tried, but Sebastian was too persuasive and Miya had a weak spot for his hands. It would be a shame if they remained scarred after those 2nd degree burns he inflicted on himself when he grabbed that log. But since he asked for a favour, it was only fair she asked for one back. Not to have her powers revealed to other students, she asked Sebastian to pretend his hands were still hurt and were healing the natural way, resulting in Sebastian having to wear bandages around both of them. “Not to be confused with the brightest idea you had when you threw a burning log at everyone. Besides, it is not my fault your hands were a mess. If you had not turned the place into a Mortal Kombat arena, none of this would have been needed,” Miya replied and gestured at his bandaged hands. “Mortal Kombat?” he asked all confused and only then Miya realized that Sebastian needed some lessons on popular culture. “You know. The video game. That Latino Karen was Liu Kang because he can shoot fire from his hands. Dante was Noob Saibot because of the dark stuff coming from his hands and you… you were… uuuummm… Baraka. Because that is the closest one I can think of when thinking about your makeshift brass knuckles. Anyway, here we are. After you,” Miya opened the door on the detention classroom and waited for Sebastian to head in first.

What Dante, Riley and Anita clearly did not realize was that Sebastian meant real harm. It was never just innocent bickering with him. He just was not like the rest of the people. The fact he did not feel any physical pain left marks also on his mind. Add those tournaments his father had forced him to take part in, teaching him that the sole purpose of life was to win while causing as much harm as possible and you have a mentally crippled individual. And Sebastian knew he was not exactly the most lovable or pleasant to be around kind of person but he felt no remorse. It was all those countless opponents he had to face in the ring, it was his father, it was his fellow classmates constantly picking on him rather than trying to understand him who made him the monster he was today. And for that same reason, he would never be apologetic to them.

Walking towards Dante, with only intentions of harm and pain on his mind, his plan was extinguished before it could even start blooming and Sebastian found himself lying on the ground, his shoulder blades pressing against the grassy surface. The heavy feeling on his chest was telling him something was not right. He gazed upon his chest and saw nothing but a furry orange paw. He traced the paw up until his eyes locked with the eyes of a Siberian tiger. Samara. His first thought was to fight against her pressing onto him, hence the hand around the paw, but upon further calculations, he realized there was no way he stood a chance against a 500 lb mountain of lean muscles. Not only that but he had no beef with Samara. She was always nice to him, although the two rarely spoke, she never showed any hostile behavior towards him. Even now, it seemed she was not trying to hurt or fight him. It almost felt like she was trying to protect him but he knew deep inside she was probably trying to protect Dante and co. as he doubted she would care about someone like him. He was just in the way, as usual. Sebastian let go and spread his arms, releasing the glass from between his knuckles. “I'm calm now, Samara. You can let me go,” he told her and stared her in the eyes. She surely had one of the most impressive abilities and it was interesting to watch how many different animal DNAs were running in her blood. No one knew it, but Sebastian felt a little connection to Samara as their backstories both involved a tyrant father following his own dreams, using his own child as a tool. Most Ivy Rose students had tragic backstories but Samara's seemed one of the most tragic ones to Sebastian.

And then, when the situation seemed to be under control, it got worse, and would it be for the metal collars Headmaster Chambers was using to control the gifted students, Sebastian would have surely burst into another rage fit. He hated those collars. The shocks never caused him any pain but he could feel the electric waves traveling through his body each time. What was worse, his power was not quite something objectively observable so he was sometimes getting shocks without justification. Understand, if Lyla changes the weather, you can see it. If Dante does his shadow magic, you can see it. But how can you observe the ability not to feel pain? You cannot. And that is why he was getting punished for “appearing to contemplate some harm”, which could range from clenching his hand into a fist to an unintentional look the wrong way, i.e. his punishments were completely subjective and it was up to the person controlling the collars to decide it. Once Headmaster Chambers appeared and informed him and the “chosen ones” about their fate for the upcoming week - involving collars and detention, Sebastian figured the party was probably over and took Miya back to his house where they stayed until Saturday. Miya was supposed to move the next day but due to Sebastian’s injuries, they could have prolonged their stay at Pierce’s until he would be fully healed. Which was right that night but there was no way he would come clean and lose an extra week of rest from his classmates and especially, from sharing a room with Dante.

---

“This is the stupidest idea you have ever had,” Sebastian was yawping for having to wear bandages over his hands for the whole week, pretending his hands were still hurt from the bonfire night when in fact he made Miya heal him on the very same night. He saw no sense in suffering through 2nd-degree burns when she possessed healing powers that she was refusing to use. It was the craziest thing he had ever seen though, The healing. The original plan was to get home, sink his hands underwater in the kitchen sink, let Miya do her magic and the hands would be as good as new. But then Headmaster Chambers and his son had to intervene. Let’s say it was the most bizarre thing, watching Miya get shocked each time she attempted the healing, making her lying on the floor for five minutes, then taking another ten to mentally prepare for another shock and then attempt the healing again, get shocked, 5 min break, 10 min preparation on and on until she was finished with healing his hands completely. It took them two hours to do that and although Sebastian had to admit he felt sorry for seeing her go through that pain, he also admired her for her determination. He knew that once she set a goal, there was no way stopping her. She was always very competitive and hated feeling like there was something she could not do, Sebastian knew that much. Their little collar adventure was probably why she was wearing a turtleneck that day. To cover the bruises on her neck as attempting to heal them would result in another vicious cycle of shocks.

Once the two reached the detention classroom, Sebastian went in first, greeting Lyla and completely ignoring that asshole Dante in the back of the classroom. Sebastian sat next to the window, the first row of seats. That was his spot. It did not come off as a surprise that Sebastian was a regular there as it seemed that trouble loved him. However, he never found detention to be that bad. Well, apart from the collar part and for that reason, he figured long ago that it was best to face the others with his back so he had as little stimuli as possible. He would not want to risk getting triggered and then shocked for nothing. But this detention was out of the ordinary even for him as the biggest school celebrities, how they probably saw themselves, were joining him that Saturday and he could already feel his neck itching.

The bonfire night certainly did not go as planned. Anita had different ideas about how to end her night and those involved some more booze, maybe a blunt or two, Dante and a whole lot of sheets activities. Instead, she got insulted, humiliated, yelled at and in trouble. The second she and Dante decided to finally leave the shit show, the shit had to hit the fan. As Anita turned around and saw Headmaster Chambers, she knew this was not going to end well. And if she needed any more proof, seconds later, her neck was enveloped by the collar she knew oh so well. Having trouble with adjustment after her arrival to IvyRose, Anita was no stranger to the item and also to what it did if she even attempted to use her powers.

The whole week at school was like a constant walk of shame. Even people who had no idea who was responsible for the outbreak or those who didn’t come to the bonfire knew what happened and those whispers were unbearable. Only thanks to Samara’s level-headedness Anita was not lying on the ground unconscious, being electroshocked every five minutes. And Anita started to appreciate the magic of turtlenecks after the first two days. There was no way she was going to let the other people stare at the collar and her as if there were three heads on her neck instead of one.

The day of detention, she woke up as usual and the dorm room was already empty. Thank god, she was in no mood to actually deal with Dante’s whiny twin. How was it that Ani got along with the guy so well but she couldn’t seem to find the common ground or even call the truce with his sister, that was beyond her. But this morning was no time to ponder over fucked up relationships. Ani got up swiftly and took a long shower, washed her hair and pampered herself a little. Even if she was late, little did she care. What worse could they do to her that they had not done already? Lock her up? Sent her to the juvie? Or a jail? Seriously, fuck that. If she was supposed to spend her Saturday in detention, she could at least look nice.

It was quite some time later, she was walking across the hallway at school to get to the detention class. Once again, her neck was covered to hide the shameful item but her back was straight, head held high. God knew how long they would have to stay in and she was really hoping that a week-long humiliation with the collars was a punishment enough, they would just take them off, they all would promise to behave and bye-bye. But considering that there was no one of authority in the room just yet, Ani knew her hopes were in vain.

Shooting an evil eye at Sebastian, she bit her tongue to resist the urge and go give him a piece of her mind. Instead, she was about to head straight to the back where the fun crowd seemed to be gathering, meaning, Riley was hanging out there with Dante when she stood dead in her tracks. What in the holy fuck was that? Her dark brown gaze landed on the new girl, or rather the outfit. And while she could get over the whole thing, the monstrosity sitting on her head was burning Ani’s eyes out. Somebody should call a fashion police on that girl, seriously. That hat was the highest crime against fashion.

But since she really didn’t want to risk getting in any more trouble, she did what she was not used to and bit her tongue for the second time in a row and walked to join the boys. “Tell me one of you brought something to make this shit show bearable.” she grumbled after folding her petite frame in one chair, crossing her boot-clad legs. “It’s almost unbelievable that the first time he decides to participate in a school even lands us all in detention.”
