The city of Azuran is nestled along the southwestern border of Ryke, becoming a major trade city in the southwest region. Many merchants come inside Ryke and outside this city due to the access to goods from the country across the border. The border had shifted from time to time over the centuries; however, currently, the city was in the Protectorate of Ryke's territory. The town started as a small village, but as the borders moved, money came to the town, and trading became its primary source of income. Many people set up their shops in the town as it slowly expanded, turning it into the thriving trade city it has become today.

However, in most cities, there is corruption among some of the people that hold the most power. Nobles and officials both crave money, and each has their allegiance, which does not always coincide with the rightful ruler. Even some citizens within Ryke hold grudges against the current rulers and upper class. A situation that some counties would take advantage of. Recently a weapons shipment was destroyed, sending news throughout the city as the city guard and the adventurer's guild became more involved.

Rumors have been circulating about the Lord Constable's corruption though every time someone goes to investigate, they either find nothing or they disappear entirely. But there was always one thing in common with the person of interest; the last time she had tried to get the information, she slipped the shipment accounts to the adventurer's guild and had managed to get invitations and forged several of them.

Kasumi had passed off invitations to a couple of people earlier today; there was no particular reason though she was hoping it would sow some chaos during the party to give her time to accomplish what she wanted to do. She had already given the guards her invitation and was let through the gate without issue. She had no weapons but managed to sneak her thieves' tools into the party inside her dress. She only stood by the entrance to see if any of the invitations she had passed out would be used.

Her eyes moved amongst the people in the long line standing outside, waiting for their turn to hand over their invitations to enter the party. Rumors had there was a rather popular traveling group of bards providing the music for the night. Kasumi had never heard of them, but the stories around the city were that many people were trying to find a way to get in. Though with the security at the gate, she had little faith that many without the invitations would get through. Shifting her gaze over at the grounds, the large courtyard with a fountain in the middle was decorated with beds of flowers all around the paths. This led up to the main steps of the manor house, where music could be heard coming.

Kasumi let out a small sigh as she glanced toward the manor, she had hoped to get a floor plan of the building, but there wasn't much luck. Forging the other invitations took much longer than she had thought. So, she was going to go into this blind; she figured the study would be somewhere on the manor's second floor. But she would need to find a way up there and then get past the guards if there were any. Though she figured she would figure that out when she got inside, she glanced back to look at the line to search again for anyone from earlier today.

Amanda had returned to Stonewall following the events at Kirkwall, she had a lot of work to do in the new capital now that her plans had been given the green light by Baroness Caelia. Plans that would require her attention and some careful preparation. But not all her plans could be acted upon immediately, in fact with the current capital the Barony had at its disposal even repairing the walls and keep would be cutting it financially close. For that reason, her plan to introduce crop rotation would need to wait, at least until Teuihua returned and labour costs could be slashed. With all that in mind, Amanda focused on the keep and walls reconstruction/repairs. A simple task really but one that required a lot of careful planning.

Her schematics were complete, her construction phases thoroughly plotted and the material had already arrived while she had been in Kirkwall. All that was left now was to put everything into motion. After all, time was money, and money was something the Barony currently lacked. Enlisting a portion of the city guard as workers, Amanda set the reconstruction in motion and watched as the first bits of mortar and brick was put in place. It would take some time for everything to be completed but under her supervision, everything was progressing effectively. In no small part thanks to her expert drawings [Architecture Expert] which made the whole process easy to understand.

Indeed everything had been going swimmingly, that was until a messenger arrived to meet with the Baroness. With the Baroness away and the letter of 'importance', Amanda received it in her stead. A decision she regretted almost immediately upon reading it. It was an invitation to a party, a high-profile one at that. Amanda hated parties.

Unfortunately, this was not an invitation she could shrug off, not given the circumstances. The Baroness had just taken over the Barony which meant this was her first invitation as a Baroness to attend and partake in the social-political sphere of the nobles. For her to turn it down would likely be taken as an insult. Granted, Amanda also thought sending a proxy would be insulting but debatably less so. Why now! Currently, Amanda was the only Advisor in the capital, Retili and the Baroness had already departed for Yemaya. Sending word to the two and then having them travel back would take far too long. The only option left was for Amanda to attend. How Cruel.

"Dammit, and I was just starting to get things done around here...".

With her mind made up Amanda passed the supervision of construction over to the Guard Captain, leaving exact instructions with him so as to ensure the project could continue in her absence. Then, with a heavy heart, she sought the Baroness's mother out. Amanda had no clothing suitable for such an event and so if anyone was to help, it would be her. How embarrassing. Once all the proper arrangements had been made, Amanda set off for the Party.

Arriving at the door in a punctual manner, Amanda offered up the Baroness' Invitation and presented herself as a proxy using her Title as [Advisor of Caelia] to prove such as truth. Following a short exchange of words Amanda moved to the courtyard where she stopped to take a deep breath near the fountain. Already this atmosphere was proving to be rather rough on her. Amanda much preferred staying in the background, being the helping hand that spoke in hushed tones. Now she had to represent the Baroness in what was essentially a debut! Amanda needed a raise.

Staring up toward the manor, Amanda folded her hands neatly behind her back. Her blue eyes scanned the structure with enthusiasm and curiosity. A subtle smile crept in slowly as she assessed it. It was marvellous, so this was what a noble's manor looked like in this world. "How very baroque" she whispered happily to herself, noting the subtle undertones of similarity to that which she already knew. Of course, a lot was very different too, but when it all boiled down, the manor was just marvellous. "Perhaps I should design something in line with this for the Baroness at a later date..."

Brushing the idea off, Amanda decided she had stalled enough. It was time to head inside, and so that's exactly what she did. After all, if she was here to represent the Baroness she couldn't just stand around in the courtyard all day admiring the architecture. No, she had to mingle. That was when a thought suddenly struck her [Bussiness Expert] + [Ambitious] 'Wait, isn't this the perfect opportunity to whip up some business for the Barony?'

Hadi Sadek had been a model of diligence and dedication throughout his life. A half-elf of distinguished lineage, he had graduated from the prestigious Ryken Academy with honors, an achievement which held considerable weight in the echelons of Ryke's nobility. His friendship with the Duke of Ryke was a testament to his character, and his distinguished military service in another Barony under the Duke's control had further embellished his reputation.

When the time had come to choose a new Count for Sedak County, Hadi's name had naturally found itself among the top candidates. His appointment to the position was met with unanimous approval, and he set about his duties with his characteristic dedication. One of his main tasks as the Count was to foster amicable relations with the Fae nation, which shared a border with Sedak County to the south.

In the days leading up to the present events, Hadi had been engrossed in the delicate task of reestablishing various trade and faction agreements. The previous lord's mismanagement had left the county in a precarious state, and it was up to Hadi to nurse it back to health.

When the invitation to the Lord Constable's party arrived, Hadi saw it as an opportunity. A gathering of this magnitude was the perfect platform to negotiate new agreements and strengthen old ones. So, he made his way to the city of Azuran, his mind filled with strategies and plans.

Upon his arrival, Hadi presented his invitation at the gate and was ushered into the manor's grand courtyard. He took a moment to survey the scene, his sharp eyes analyzing the crowd. He noted the beautiful woman standing by the entrance, a curious figure who seemed to be observing the crowd with an intensity that piqued his interest. Nearby, another woman, identified as Amanda, Baroness Caelia's proxy, appeared to be lost in her admiration of the manor's architecture.

Hadi straightened his coat and prepared to mingle, his diplomatic instincts coming to the fore. It was time to make the most of this event and secure a brighter future for Sedak County. Despite the noise and the bustle of the party, his mind was sharply focused on the task at hand. This was a battlefield of a different sort, and he was ready to take it on.

Darin 512x512.pngDarin walked along with the man who'd hired him as a guard; he was still a bit skeptical about being offered the job, but money was money, and as long as he nor his employer were here to do anything illegal, it should be fine.

With his musket firmly in hand, he followed behind the count through the gate and into the courtyard. Darin looked around, feeling out of place among these "noble" people, with their elegant clothing and demeanors.
"Hmph" Though he would not be dissuaded by that, of course, as he had a job to do.

"I'll be staying to the side, seeing as I don't want to interrupt any of your important business. However, I'll be close by and keeping watch, in case any... complications arise, yes?" Darin wasn't some kind of showoff brute, so he would prefer to take this more tactfully; with his piece said, he walked over to one of the manor's nearby pillars, and leaned against it. Darin held a relaxed posture, with his eyes closed and only a single hand on his gun's barrel. Anyone who paid him more attention than a quick glance, however, would notice that he often opened one eye to intently study* the count and those around him, as well as the fact that his musket was primed, loaded, & within firm grip.

Kasumi took a final glance out of the gate; she had hoped there would be people who seemed out of their element that would come through. She would have loved to see the Lord Constable's face when he saw the people who were definitely. Puffing her cheeks out a little bit as she looked somewhat disappointed. As she was about to turn around to walk further in, she saw a blonde-haired woman out of the corner of her eye. She seemed to be in love with the building or something like that, and she couldn't help but chuckle as she started to walk over to approach her.

However, before she reached her, a noble had glanced her way, though she didn't know how he was. Which, in her mind, meant that he was either a recent new addition or from out of the area. Hmmm, I do wonder who he is? Though he does seem to be a discerning individual. Kasumi thought to herself as she gave him a little smile and a wave before walking up to the girl she was moving towards earlier. As Kasumi reached her, the woman mentioned a baroness, which caused her to cock an eyebrow momentarily. So I'm going to guess that she isn't a noble herself, then? Well, I could use that. Kasumi thought as she smiled and cleared her throat.

"Well, hello miss, I see you are interested in the design of the building, correct? It would be best if you waited until we get into the main entrance then," Kasumi stated as she pointed toward the main entrance. From this angle, it looked like it led into another courtyard and then led to another door further along. "Oh, sorry, I should introduce myself to one so finely dressed, Claire Greshlan my father is a humble baron in this city," She introduced herself [Alternate Identity F & Deception F] using a fake name. After all the less people knew about her, the better, and that was the name she had on the invitation she used at the gate.

As she looked back over at the noble, that was when she noticed the lizard man with a gun. Well, now that could be a problem later on, especially if he sees me as a threat. Kasumi thought momentarily as her smile faded only briefly before turning back to Amanda, looking as if she wanted to enter the manor further. Though the manor guards, anyone that was looking would notice they kept an especially close eye on Darin.

After Lee's nightly wanderings in the village of Ravenswood, he quickly took to the road and found himself within the City of Azuran. It was a bustling town with its own unique history to how it became the thriving crossroad that it was, but Lee had no plans on learning about any of this. He was no historian today, but a business. Well, at least that's what he wanted to believe. He lacked the necessary skills to be referred to as such, but there was no harm in being a bit delusional especially when no one else is aware of it. Like any good businessman, Lee was able to offer his wares - in this case his services - in exchange for some monetary compensation. Hence, his presence in what looked to be a party attended by the city upper class, nobility, and elite. Unfortunately, since he was not a guest, but hired muscle, Lee did not have the luxury to enjoy the night and partake of all the fanciness that was around him. However, this didn't mean he was planning to just be standing in the corner in silence for the entire evening.

Heading towards his fellow guard-for-hire, Lee stood beside the Lizardman, his posture a bit lax and laidback. "Darin, right?" He smiled, raising his hand in a partial wave to greet the musketeer. "Is this your first-time doing guard work?" Lee casually spoke, hoping to get to know the guy he was going to be with for what he assumed to be the rest of the night. "Cause it is mine." Lee chuckled, amused at fact that he landed the job despite his own inexperience.

Darin 512x512.pngAs Darin was watching to make sure his employer was safe, the other hired guard approached him. He opened his eyes and turned to look at him, to see the rather typical looking human in appearance, and with no visible weapons. Of course, only a fool would assume that the man did not have any hidden weapons or tricks; he did his best to never let such prejudices get to him, lest he be caught off-guard. In response to Lee's question, Darin replied with a simple "Yup". He took a brief pause to slightly wave back, but his face remained neutral while his eyes kept track of the Count. "If I recall correctly, you're Lee?" Darin hadn't had a chance to speak to his fellow guard yet, but remembered the mention of his name along the way to the manor.

"Hmph, it is actually, but I intend to be thorough in my job, that much is certain." Darin had a duty to do; though it may seem boring, he was getting paid for it, and he would make sure to protect the Count from any dangers. He narrowed his eyes at all of the gathered people, studying each of them. "What do you think of these parties of nobility? I am sure that some come with fine intentions, but the Count wouldn't have hired guards if there wasn't the chance of something problematic." While he did not have anything personal against the "higher class" of this world, as they may call themselves, the fact that he was acting as a guard for one should be evidence enough that not all was well.

Amanda was taken a little off guard when she was suddenly approached by a woman, halting her progression toward the front door. It seemed the woman was quite the social butterfly, seeking out conversation with a total stranger, how odd. Actually, it wasn't odd at all. Amanda was attending a party intended for nobles and the elite of society. Between the fact she was a lowborn with no etiquette skills and with her being a new face within an established circle of big names, obviously, she must have stuck out like a sore thumb to those perceptive enough to notice. How embarrassing. 'I knew I should have studied etiquette as a precaution, I left it too late.'

Offering the woman a smile Amanda was surprised to hear she was the daughter of a Baron. The woman didn't give Amanda that kind of impression. Not only was her etiquette sloppy but she didn't have that kind of an aura about her. The woman was polite sure, but something was off about her and so Amanda decided it best to test out an ability she had been keeping to herself for some time now. [A Gamers Sixth Sense C]

Eyes glowing a faint blue Amanda gazed at the woman with a soft expression and continued to speak as she assessed the situation with her ability "The pleasure is mine, truly. My name is Amanda Steelhaven. I'm serving as Baroness Caelia's Proxy this evening. Though what you say truly intrigues me, Baron Greshlan hmm. Oh, I did hear about the good Baron, in fact, I read about him on my way over hear. How is he keeping? I was unaware the Baron had a daughter, my, how embarrassing. I do apologise for my ignorance.". Amandas smile and expression were polite and soft, her tone sincere. However, without a deception skill, it would be clear to 'Claire' that Amanda was on guard and very much not one to miss out on details of importance.

Hadi Sadek took note of his guard, Darin, positioned near a pillar with his musket. His relaxed posture belied the constant vigilance Hadi knew the man to have. He had chosen well; Darin was a professional, not a showy brute. His eyes often flicked open to survey the scene, ensuring the safety of his charge. Hadi appreciated the diligence and would not take it for granted. He took a moment to acknowledge Darin with a brief nod before returning to the crowd.

As he surveyed the gathering, his gaze fell upon a woman who smiled and waved at him. Hadi acknowledged her gesture with a polite smile, and a slight incline of his head. She moved on to approach another woman who was admiring the architecture. Hadi made a mental note of the interaction. In these gatherings, information was the most valuable currency.

A newcomer arrived, another guard-for-hire, who engaged Darin in conversation. Hadi noted the man's name - Lee - and his relaxed demeanor. While he seemed inexperienced, there was a certain calm about him that suggested he was not to be underestimated.

As he observed the interactions, Hadi noted a brief exchange between the woman who had waved at him earlier, now introduced as Claire Greshlan, and the woman admiring the building, Amanda Steelhaven, a proxy for Baroness Caelia. Amanda's guarded response to Claire's introduction suggested that not all was as it seemed. Hadi appreciated her keenness. It would be valuable to strike a conversation with her later.

In the midst of the quiet intrigue, Hadi reminded himself of his purpose here. The recovery of Sedak County was his priority. He observed the crowd once more, looking for potential allies, possible threats, and advantageous connections. His military training and education had taught him the art of diplomacy, and it was time to
put those skills to use.

He took a deep breath, steeling himself for the evening ahead. The task was akin to navigating a battlefield, except here words were the weapons, and the terrain was fraught with social customs and hidden meanings. It was a war of a different kind, one he had been trained for at Ryken Academy, and one he knew he could win.

"I hope you'll forgive my intrusion," Hadi began, making his way over to Darin and Lee, his tone warm and friendly as he approached. "I just wanted to express my appreciation for your service this evening. It's not always an easy task to guard at these events, but your presence certainly brings peace of mind."

His eyes then drifted towards the women, Claire and Amanda. He was about to approach them when he noticed the guards paying particular attention to Darin. He decided to address the matter first, turning his attention back to his guards.

"Darin, Lee," he said, his tone lowering to a more serious note, "I see the manor guards are keeping a close eye on us. They're just doing their job, of course, but let's ensure we give them no cause for concern."

With that, he walked towards Claire and Amanda. He needed to establish relationships, to build alliances. Hadi knew his county's recovery depended on his ability to do so. He was determined to succeed, for the sake of his people and the Duke who had placed his trust in him. He just hoped that the neighboring Fae nation would be receptive to his efforts as well.

As he approached the women, he gave them a charming smile. "Ladies, if I might have a moment of your time?" He began, "I couldn't help but overhear your conversation. My name is Hadi Sadek, the Count of Sedak County. I believe we may have some mutual interests that could lead to beneficial arrangements." His tone was inviting, offering the opportunity for dialogue but not imposing his presence. The ball was now in their court.

Kasumi kept a smile as she saw the faint change in her eyes. Well, that was interesting, something I should watch for later. Kasumi thought to herself as Amanda spoke again and asked about the count. "Well, that's very rare for a noble to send a proxy to a party. Especially in this one, the Lord Constable likes to deal with other nobles. Though you will be lucky to speak with him, he's....very particular about who he talks to," Kasumi paused for a moment before continuing, "My father is fine though, no need to apologize; my family was recently only established as nobles. No doubt there are many rumors or lack of information my family," Kasumi replied as she waved it off.

Amanda would be able to tell that there was something off there were lies mixed in with what she was being told. But she could tell that the part about the Lord Constable, and the part about the family being newly made nobles along with information about the family was the truth. Kasumi also noticed the change in Amenda's demeanor. Brushing some loose hair behind her ear she was about to excuse herself so she could begin what she had come here to do when the count she had waved to earlier joined them.

Turning to face Hadi,
"Claire Greshlan." Kasumi introduced her identity for the time that she was going to be at the party. "I would be more than happy to listen to what you have to say, however, my father hasn't given me the authority to make a deal on his behalf. But I can relay the message when I return home," Kasumi replied with a nod of her head. The manor guards on the other hand were continuing to make their rounds. While they were not approaching the hired help, Hadi's comments to his guard were well-founded.

As the guards kept their eyes on them they didn't approach anyone. Many people at the party were too busy discussing their own deals and eating the food that was set off to the side on tables insides the main courtyard.

Amanda knew that attending this party was going to test her, she knew very well that she would be lied to many a time throughout the evening. That being said she didn't expect to have to deal with such a situation before she had even entered the main hall. How very peculiar and entertaining. This Claire woman was clearly not of noble birth, though if the Greshlan family truly were only raised to the rank of Baron recently that would explain the lack of finesse and noble aura. Though still not entirely trusting of the woman, Amanda decided to leave it at that for now, after all, she had received quite a valuable piece of information. The Lord Constable was an elitist. That could be used to her advantage. People with inflated egos had a tendency to be the easiest to manipulate and predict after all.

Eyes returning to normal, Amanda offered Claire a smile and soft chuckle "My Lady is quite the rare noble. Though she would have loved to attend the party, her duty to the people of Caelia Barony takes precedence. With that mess those cultists left behind nobody could expect her to leave such a precarious situation in the hands of someone 'below' the rank of Baron.". Trying to get a taste of the woman's political alignment Amanda tried to tease out any leaning response she could but alas her efforts were cut short when a finely dressed man approached the duo from the side.

Introducing himself as Count Sadak Amanda immediately tensed. Though she did her best to hide it, those paying close enough attention would have noticed. 'What! The Count! Already! Why do I hear 'Dark Souls' music? What the heck, this game is broken you can't just throw a boss at me right from the get-go! Where's the balance in that!'. Recovering quickly though still mentally cursing the situation she had found herself in Amanda offered the Count a curtsy. 'Relax, this is a great opportunity. Use it to your advantage. Think of it as a random quick-time event.' "Count Sadek, it is a pleasure to meet you. I am Amanda Steelhaven, advisor to Baroness Regula Caelia and her proxy for the duration of tonight's party.".

Straightening her posture Amanda managed to calm herself down and loosen up. Viewing the situation as if it were a game event had made things considerably easier on her. And with Claire essentially passing up on the opportunity by declaring her inability to act on her father's behalf. Amanda was in quite a beneficial position. Unless someone else approached she had the ability to openly barter and negotiate with the Count directly on the Barony's behalf. This was an opportunity that could not be passed up on. But it would require her full attention and considerable finesse. This was a count she was dealing with and, if the rumors were to be believed, a very cunning and intelligent Count at that.

"I'd be happy to discuss any topics of mutual interest we may have my Count. However, may I be so bold as to suggest we begin by discussing two upcoming expansions Caelia Barony has planned? I can assure you, it shan't be a waste of your time."

Hadi stood tall and confident, his eyes analyzing the situation before him with precision. As Claire acknowledged her inability to act on her father's behalf, he offered her a warm smile, his eyes conveying a hint of appreciation for her honesty. "I understand, Lady Greshlan. It is wise not to overstep one's authority. Nonetheless, I appreciate your willingness to relay the message."

He shifted his attention to Amanda, his posture subtly adjusting to display genuine interest as he listened to her words. His eyes briefly flickered with surprise when she mentioned the Caelia Barony expansions, but he quickly composed himself and nodded thoughtfully. "Ah, the expansions of Caelia Barony. I have indeed heard rumors of such plans, and I am quite curious to learn more. I am always interested in opportunities for mutual benefit, and I believe that cooperation between leaders of the county could prove fruitful."

Surveying the room to ensure they had an appropriate level of privacy, Hadi gestured gracefully with his left hand for Amanda to follow him to a quieter corner of the room. His voice took on a more intimate tone, conveying his eagerness to delve into the details. "Let us discuss these expansions in more detail, shall we? I am particularly interested in how our interests might align and how we can support one another in achieving our goals."

As Hadi led Amanda away, his eyes momentarily drifted back to Claire Greshlan, curiosity subtly etched in his gaze. His instincts told him there was more to her than met the eye, and he filed away this observation for later consideration. For now, he focused on the potential opportunities that lay ahead with the Caelia Barony, his mind already calculating potential outcomes and strategies as he engaged Amanda in conversation.

Darin

Interactions: Hadi ( Novama Novama ), Lee ( Speed Speed ).
Darin 256x256.pngNoticing Hadi's nod, Darin responded with one of his own; he appreciated the acknowledgement. After a short time, he watched with a raised eyebrow -at least, as much as one could be given without actually having them- as the Count approached him and Lee. "Glad to hear that our presence makes you feel secure, we wouldn't be particularly sufficient guards if we didn't." He turned his attention to the guards as Hadi mentioned them. "I see, I'll think of something to not draw their unnecessary attention."

After the Count walked off to a conversation elsewhere, Darin briefly contemplated over his musket, before coming up with an idea. While he couldn't just unload his musket, he could make it appear less threatening and temporarily non-functional. Taking the ramrod, he put it down the barrel as if loading a new projectile, and left it there. "Hmph, it looks utterly stupid, but if it satisfies the guards' worries, then so be it."

With that dilemma hopefully solved, Darin looked over to where the Count had gone. Spotting him speaking to a couple nobles near the other side of the room, he decided that staying in this location wouldn't accomplish anything. Standing up from leaning on the pillar and with firearm in hand, he addressed his fellow guard. "Well, a pleasure to have met you Lee. I'm going to check on the Count for a moment, and perhaps walk around a bit as well; feel free to join me or not." With that said, he began walking in Hadi's general direction.

Not wanting to interfere, he simply passed nearby, taking a brief pause to study them with narrowed eyes; while too far away to hear anything, he could tell they were speaking over something serious. Continuing on, he noticed a hallway leading off towards the side of the structure; the Count seemed to be in relative safety with the manor's guards, and constantly sticking around wasn't the only way to be on the lookout for various threats. Gently slapping his tail against the floor, he attempted to gain Hadi's attention for a moment, in order that the disappearance of the Count's guard not be unknown. With a quick nod to where he was headed, Darin hastily slipped into the hallway, and began strolling through while appraising the architecture around him.

Kasumi tilted her head to the right a bit as Amanda mentioned the cultists, she hadn't heard much about other parts of the kingdom. She was focused on the events in the city, the brothers running around doing their preparations she was surprised the city wasn't on fire yet. "Cultists? I'm afraid that I don't know what you are referring too. Though that might be because we have been focused on events the city rather than other areas of Ryke," Kasumi explained as she simply shrugged it.

As Amanda explained the reason for the Baroness for not attending, she simply nodded her head. "Ah, well people are very busy with their work; my father is similar for the district he is in charge of in the city," Kasumi chuckled as the count now joined them and appreciated her relaying the message later on. Which Kasumi had no intention of doing whatsoever more than likely she wouldn't really run into any of the people at this party again once she had completed her goal for coming here.

With the count now leading Amanda away Kasumi let out a sigh of relief, adjusting her dress slightly she looked back toward the manor house. Walking toward the entryway, once she was in she noticed the house on the inside looked like a Venetian house. At the far end of the courtyard was the room for the ballroom where nobles were dancing and stuffing their faces with food.

Meanwhile, the captain of the manor guard walked up to Darin. "Well we don't see much of your kind here much. Well so long as you don't give my men any reason to mistrust you everything will be fine. Captain Marblock by the way," Marblock introduced himself to Darin as he extended his hand.

Amanda was both surprised and impressed to find the count had already heard rumors of the expansions she had planned for the barony. Though with him being the Count to whom Lady Caelia was bound, it did make sense he'd have his ear to the ground. Especially given Regula was a new noble with no formal training in governance. What a calculating man. Following along behind him Amanda was happy to take the meeting somewhere more secluded. After all, she didn't want anyone overhearing her plans, not when she was still unsure of who may or may not try to foil them should they become known.

Once the two had settled into the corner of the room Amanda offered the man a polite smile before responding in kind to his words of encouragement and interest "I'd be happy to discuss the expansions in more detail. Though of course, I cannot speak on where our interests align until I know more about what it is you personally seek to achieve both in the short and long term." Waving over a butler who had been carrying some drinks, Amanda took two before dismissing him with a word of thanks. She offered one to the Count before continuing "Zoning the new capital has proved to be quite difficult. Stonewall is a region where many rocks lay close to the topsoil. This makes farming and construction in the area quite labor-intensive. That being said, when you combine this with the fact monsters and wolves often wander close to the border, farming livestock becomes quite the nightmare. Truth be told the more I look into the Stonewall area the more issue I seem to find."

Laughing softly at her own words Amanda's eyes flickered from her glass to the count, her gaze more serious than before "Then there's Soothspire, overflowing with raw material that cannot be processed nearly fast enough. The exportation of all that raw ore as opposed to having it sold after refinement must cost the people a fortune. Though, then again between the recovery effort following the goblin invasion and the mountainous terrain, those folk are just happy to get by on whatever amount they can bring in."

Sipping from her glass Amanda paused for a second, savoring the taste and watching for any reaction the count may have yet had "Then there's Kirkwall. My hometown. The poster child of Caelia Barony. Verdant fields and forest stretch to the horizon in an otherwise agriculturally desolate barony. How strange the town closest to the wastes and border is so prosperous and green. Producing enough food and animal products to make a killing in trade with Highgrove Barony border towns."

Smiling as she inspected her now empty glass, Amanda chuckled to herself softly, twirling the glass by its stem as she spoke in a hushed tone "I needn't even speak of Yemaya, but my. When you look at it all together, my Lady has really landed herself in quite the problem area. What is it they say? She was 'thrown in the deep end?'."

Tilting her head to the side Amanda's eyes met the Counts once more and her smile grew almost to be cheeky in a very subtle way "My Lady is a wonderful person. The type of leader one can depend on. I shall ensure she not only floats. I will ensure Caelia Barony prospers."

Looking around to ensure nobody had or could overhear her, Amanda's smile turned to a subtle grin "With all that said and a rough rundown out of the way. My dear Count, shall we get down to business?"

Adjusting her posture Amanda folded her arms under her chest, she had previously been rather nervous to deal with the count but it seemed her competitive nature and killer business sense had left her more than confident now that talks were finally getting underway. "Which of my two proposals would you like to discuss first? Sootspire's expansion or Stonewall's? Stonewall's expansion is heavily agriculturally based and Sootspire's, industrially. Would either of those align with your interests?"

Count Hadi Sadek stood tall and poised, his distinguished air effortlessly portraying his noble status. As he attentively listened to Amanda's words, the subtle furrowing of his brows revealed his astute consideration of her descriptions. The challenges facing the Caelia Barony were certainly formidable and he could not help but admire Amanda's unwavering determination.

"Your dedication to the prosperity of Caelia Barony is commendable, Lady Amanda," he began, his rich voice resonating with respect and sincerity. "As the Count of the region, I am invested in the well-being and growth of each barony under my jurisdiction. It is in our mutual interest to see both Stonewall and Sootspire thrive."

As Amanda offered him a drink, Hadi gestured towards a nearby seating arrangement, inviting her to join him in a more relaxed setting. With a graceful movement, he settled into one of the ornate chairs, his posture subtly shifting to exude a sense of authority and confidence.

He gracefully accepted the drink Amanda offered, his fingers encircling the stem of the glass with practiced elegance. As he sipped the refined beverage, his eyes momentarily closed to savor the exquisite taste. Setting the glass aside, he focused his full attention on Amanda, ensuring that his expression remained attentive and engaged.

"I believe we should first discuss Stonewall's agricultural expansion," Hadi declared, his tone firm yet inviting. "A strong foundation in agriculture is crucial for the prosperity of any region, and overcoming the challenges you mentioned will undoubtedly benefit the entire county."

Hadi contemplated Amanda's question for a moment before responding, "In addition to the agricultural focus of Stonewall's expansion, I would recommend exploring the possibility of utilizing magic and magical creatures to aid in overcoming the rocky terrain and improve crop yields. This could involve employing earth-manipulating magic to optimize soil conditions or utilizing the abilities of certain magical creatures to enhance farming practices. It may also be worth considering incentives for farmers to adopt these practices, further bolstering the region's growth."

As they delved into the details of Stonewall's expansion, Hadi's eyes occasionally flickered across the room, ever-watchful and observant. He made a mental note of Darin's subtle attempts to gain his attention, maintaining his calm demeanor as he subtly nodded in acknowledgment, ensuring that Darin knew he had been seen.

Returning his focus to Amanda, Count Hadi engaged in the conversation with unwavering attention, his eyes sparkling with interest as they explored the potential collaborations that could lead to mutual prosperity for all. His demeanor remained poised throughout their discussion, skillfully maintaining the dignity and elegance expected of his noble position.

Darin 256x256.pngAs Darin walked through the hallway, he was suddenly approached by one of the guards, but one who appeared to be their superior by the looks of the uniform. He slightly narrowed his eyes at the man's comment. "Yes, I imagine not..." He nodded his head at the mention of the manor's guards. "Of course; I assure you that I am here only to guarantee Count Hadi's safety, nothing more, nothing less." Shaking Marblock's hand, Darin introduced himself as well. "The name's Darin, glad to meet you."

Stepping back from the handshake, Darin tilted his head to the side, taking a moment to contemplate how to continue the conversation. "Well, considering the guards at this party, I'm curious if there have been any incidents in the past or so? I'm sure you can understand the concern for my employer's safety."

Amanda was impressed by how quickly the Count had picked up on the fact agriculture was the most crucial aspect the Barony would be facing in terms of it's future growth. It had been a subject the baroness herself had originally struggled with fully comprehending, especially the economic knock-on affects the Barony so despotically needed. This man was most certainly well suited to the role of Count if he could understand that much. Amanda had heard he was well educated and of considerable renown but to think he could quickly grasp what it was she had been aiming for with agriculture as a base so soon after being introduced to it. It seemed his reputation was well deserved.

That being said one aspect of what he said did prove a little worrisome. Though his logical understanding and ability to pick up on the true advantage agricultural reform could bring the Barony was commendable, his understanding of the current situation left something to be desired. Magic creatures, magical soil alterations? Though all of those suggestions seemed fine on paper, economically and practically they were absolutely out of the question for Caelia Barony. The Barony had no suitable mages to accomplish such a feat and provided they did, relying on magic to alter the soil would only add more cost to the end product. Creating a good solid agricultural base that relied on no outside interference was key here. Magic could be introduced later when cash crops became viable. Right now, the economically disadvantaged Barony couldn't afford to toy with magic without anything to first fall back on.

Once Stonewall's foodbank was replenished and the economy out of the red, then would be the time for toying with such things. Though, incentives for workers were actually something they both agreed on.

"I'll consider your advice on magic alterations at a later date once adequate funding and safety nets have been achieved. Though on the topic of incentives I have already prepared a few of note."

Shifting one leg over the other Amanda moved her hands to her lap and offered the Count a polite smile, watching his gaze shift from her to his guard "But before that, let me break down the plan signed off on by Baroness Caelia. That way you can see how those incentives align with the work at hand."

"To begin with, as it stands Stonewall's agricultural scene is dominated by small, single-home vegetable beds. This means two things mainly. The first is that we can expect no pushback or sabotage from farmers already established in the area because there are none. The second is that farmhands will need to be trained from the ground up."

"Training farmhands from the ground up may seem like a disadvantage from the get-go but in our case, it's quite advantageous. Given we'll be introducing a new crop rotation system, which I'll get into later, we won't have to worry about 'teaching old dogs new tricks'. Farmers can be quite resistant to change but in this case, we can teach those who come forward how to farm the Kirkwallian way without much pushback."

"Of course, that's just on a surface level. The real issue lies in the topsoil and zoning. Before I can really get this project moving an appropriate zone will need to be cleared and prepared. Given the size of the farm planned, it will need to be some distance from the town walls to allow for the growth of the capital itself. Which means wildlife and bandits become an increased threat. Not to mention the labor of clearing the rocky area."

"The first step, zoning, has already been finished. After close examination and consideration, I've highlighted the area the agricultural zone will encompass as well as the farm itself therein. What comes next is clearance. Clearing the area and leveling the fields is going to take some time. My Lady has acquired a companion in the form of a large construct but even with his help and the enlistment of those guards from the area, I expect it to take a little over a month before the area is truly ready for working. This includes the drilling of an onsight well. Though, if you'd be so kind as to offer a mage to Caelia Barony on loan to assist with this I'd be sure to see the favor returned in the future."

Leaning back Amanda chuckled to herself, not quite sure how the count would take her half-joking request for aid. "That will conclude most of the intensive work. Though I use that word loosely. What comes next is the construction of a stone half wall and watchtowers on the four most corners of the area. The rocks excavated should be more than enough to construct such once cut into shape. With wooden supports for the towers cutting costs thereafter. A farm Bunk and living quarters will be constructed too. And from there really it's just a matter of working the land in the Kirkwallian way."

"There's always going to be issue that arises during construction and preparation but on paper that's the plan at it's most bare bones. The whole situation following that boils down to how well we can teach our farmhands to work the crop rotation I implemented in Kirkwall. If you grant me the use of that mage I mentioned perhaps I could tell you just what makes it so effective as that 'favor' my Count."
Amanda grinned, sensing a business opportunity might just be ripe for the taking. [Bussiness Expert]

"Though, with that said It'll likely take four years before the rotation actually takes hold and the economic advantages take center stage. That said food production should increase within the year and with it so should the standard of life. The long game if you will. As for the incentives, those farmhands chosen will be granted free housing, food, and training and be paid a suitable wage. Is there anything you'd like me to talk about in more detail. I've skimmed on quite a few details to make it consumable."

The shimmering chandeliers of the grand hall reflected in Hadi's calm eyes as he listened intently to Amanda's elaborate plan. His gaze never wavered, and his poised countenance remained unchanged, like an old statue weathered by time yet retaining its regal charm. His silence was not one of disinterest but rather of deep contemplation.

"Miss Amanda," he began, his voice a deep, tranquil river that flowed smoothly through the ornate hall. "Your dedication and comprehensive approach to this matter are nothing short of admirable, and your understanding of the agricultural intricacies involved is commendable."

His fingers traced the rim of his glass, the minute clinking sound echoing the rhythm of his thoughts. "However," he said, pausing momentarily to choose his words carefully, "I wonder if we are putting the cart before the horse in allocating our resources."

He leaned back in his chair, the velvet upholstery cradling him as he found the right words. "I understand the current financial constraints of the Barony, but I can't help but question the cost-effectiveness of hiring and training a significant number of farmhands. Instead, wouldn't it be prudent to invest those resources in securing the services of a competent mage or mages? With the right magical aptitude, they could accomplish tasks that would require numerous farmhands, and in a fraction of the time. Moreover, the yield could potentially be greater due to the precise and controlled nature of their magical work."

Hadi gestured slightly with his hand as he continued. "Furthermore, I can't help but wonder if we're limiting our potential by not considering the direct application of magic to the land. For example, wouldn't it be possible to infuse the soil with the missing nutrients directly using magic? Or perhaps we could look into magically modifying the plants themselves to be more resilient or to adapt better to the conditions if we understand what is causing the fields to be less than ideal for farming."

He offered her a warm, encouraging smile, his tone earnest and devoid of any condescension. "The aim here, Miss Amanda, is not to challenge but to consider all possibilities, to ensure that the solutions we choose are the very best they can be. Have these possibilities been given any thought?"

His query hung in the air, accompanied by a soft hum of the chandeliers above and the distant murmur of conversations, waiting for Amanda's response. The count's court did have mages in it. There was the possibility of him lending their services to the barony. There was also the Barony's proximity to the Fae See and its population of mages that may be enticed into work for the right favor since money was not particularly useful to their people.

Meanwhile,

fantasy-veteran-guard-captain-s-2524408962-png.1085381
Marblock studied Darin, his gaze sharp and assessing as he took in the newcomer's words. The Captain was a man of experience, his life spent in the service of the Manor and the safety of its occupants. His dark eyes, set deep under a weathered brow and crisp cap, held an unspoken promise of vigilance.

"Darin," he echoed, the name rolling off his tongue as he committed it to memory. His grip was firm, the handshake a test of character as much as a greeting.

His eyes narrowed subtly at Darin's query, but he kept his composure. The Captain knew all too well that the safety of a charge was a guard's foremost concern. However, the question seemed to dig deeper, probing for vulnerabilities, for stories of past incidents that might hint at future risks.

"No need for concern, Darin," Marblock replied, his voice steady as the firm walls of the Manor. His stance was a mirror of his reassurance, feet planted firmly on the polished marble floor, hands clasped behind his back. "The Manor has seen its fair share of events, as any noble residence would. But rest assured, we've handled them all with utmost diligence. Our record stands testament to our competence."

His gaze turned sterner, the steel in his voice hardening. "Your duty, as you stated, is the safety of Count Hadi, and I respect that. But remember, this is our ground. We look out for each other here. Trust is mutual, and any mistrust sowed could yield a bitter harvest."

With that, he offered Darin a curt nod, his dark eyes reflecting the chandelier's light. It was a simple acknowledgment of their shared duty, a shared understanding of the silent vows they both held. For tonight, they were both guardians of those within these walls.

Just as the conversations between the Count, Amanda, Darin, and Marblock were deepening, an unexpected disruption echoed through the Manor's grand hall. A cacophony of clattering and yelping erupted from the direction of the kitchens, followed by a billowing cloud of smoke that poured into the dining area.

The Manor's staff scrambled in response, the abrupt chaos stirring a flurry of activity. A scrawny kitchen boy appeared in the doorway, his face as white as the apron he wore. His wide-eyed terror was a stark contrast to the normally calm and composed demeanor of the Manor staff.

"I'm sorry, sirs, ladies!" he stuttered, struggling to catch his breath. "One of the...the roasts...it got...got out of control! It's a...a fire!"

With his message delivered, he darted back towards the kitchen, leaving the grand hall in a stunned silence. The soft murmur of conversation ceased, replaced by a tense anticipation. The chandeliers flickered ominously, casting long, wavering shadows that seemed to dance with the news of the impending disaster. The smell of smoke grew stronger, a bitter aroma that tinged the air and left a sour note amidst the usual fragrances of roasted meats and fresh bread.

This was not part of the Manor's usual proceedings, and it was a moment that would test the mettle and wit of everyone present.

Amanda was surprised when the Count pressed her on the topic of magic and the implementation of such further. The man had a valid point but there was one other reason other than the cost that Amanda had for not pursuing such methods. The reason of course being her lack of expertise in the area. Amanda was an expert in a lot of fields but the arcane had always managed to evade her understanding thus far. Perhaps it was due to her understanding of her previous world and the scientific teachings therein. Perhaps it was due to the fact all the knowledge she had amassed, games she had played, and the history she had studied were all based on a governing system in which magic was not a variable. Granted some of her RTS games did incorporate magical units but that was a far shot from the new reality she found herself in. The only real understanding she truly had of this world's magic was that of it's militaristic applications and benefits. Which was in no small part thanks to her secretive reading of Kirkwall's texts on such topics.

It was embarrassing really, here she was talking about how hard it was to teach old dogs new tricks, and yet she had been exhibiting the same aversion to magic. Truth be told, Amanda often worried learning of magic in any detail beyond the fundamentals would shatter her worldview and understanding. However sitting here, face to face with the count and hearing his logical breakdown of the situation only made her angry and ashamed. Not at the count but at herself for holding such childish views. Magic was a tool akin to physics. It could be used to better understand but also to improve. With her understanding of how her previous world worked as well as all those areas of expertise she had amassed, magic could multiply her productivity and improve her end results in many areas. Combining her old knowledge with the new, like sitting down to play a new RTS built within an entirely new engine. The basics would stand but to gain a real advantage one needs to first understand how and when to utilize the new mechanics to truly gain a worthwhile lead.

She had been a fool.

"Truth be told, I hadn't considered the implementation of magics in my plan at all.". For but a brief moment Amanda's smile wavered but very quickly returned "It seems I still have a lot to learn, though I do believe my plan will work out effectively in the long term I will not reject your suggestion that magic may serve the Barony better. Not only that but I must thank you for your words just now. They have helped me overcome an internal hurdle I did not realize even existed. I'll be sure to see this plan through after making revisions based on your advice here today. The arcane is a field of study I have yet to step into, but it seems one can only run from it for so long. I will do my best to see this project meets your expectations, in return, please do my Lady and me the privilege of hosting once it is completed."

Offering the Count a polite bow of her head Amanda chuckled to herself "You truly are a calm and calculating man. Incredibly intelligent and highly respectable. I must say your reputation is very well warranted. If you don't mind me asking, are you naturally gifted or is this the result of your time at the academy?"

Before Amanda could get her answer though a chef suddenly barged into the room and announced quite boldly that a fire had broken out within the kitchen. What an idiotic man, the last thing you do during a fire is shout out the fact that there's a fire! He could have told everyone there was to be food and drink in the garden and had everyone evacuate naturally without hysteria but not that everyone was aware of the fire such an easy evacuation would more than likely become impossible. Pinching the bridge of her nose Amanda let out a soft sigh "You'll have to excuse me Count Sadek. It would seem the other guests are at a loss as to what to do. Alas, time waits for no man and fire even less so. If you would be so kind as to use your authority to direct the guests to the garden I will attend to the fire."

Moving to a stand Amanda patted down her dress before tieing back her hair "This building should be more than capable of withstanding a contained blaze. I was inspecting it earlier from afar and I must say its structural integrity is quite impressive. I will endeavor to put out the fire alongside the staff, should that fail, sealing the heavy door should slow the fire to a crawl allowing adequate time for mages or other firefighting personnel to arrive." [Architecture Expert]

Making a start toward the kitchen Amanda moved at a quickened pace, brushing by those in her way as gently as she possibly could.

Darin listened as Marblock replied with confidence and assurance, which was respectable. Noticing the Captain's seemingly suspicious look, he attempted to placate any concerns. "Of course, I trust that you and your men know what you're doing. I also understand that we share interests: my job is to keep the Count safe, and yours is to protect everyone present." Returning the nod, Darin continued, though he was beginning to come up short with relevant conversation topics.

"This may seem an odd question, but I am curious to know if you or any of the guards here utilize firearms? If not, then I feel that you may want to take them into consideration; I'd say they are quite effective at convincing any troublemakers, as it's difficult to parry a projectile travelling faster than sound." He chuckled slightly, with a bit of a smirk visible. "Obviously, this is simply a suggestion from a passing marksman, but perhaps it could be useful in aiding this building's defenses." Darin had been told that this world was stalling in technological development, and was given the task of assisting to solve this problem. With his knowledge, he planned to show this world the potential of firearms, and while it would be a long and arduous task, this was a first step.

As Darin finished his thoughts and awaited Marblock's reply, a raucous noise and billowing smoke interrupted them. Snapping his head towards the direction of it, he could smell the ash from here. "I must go check on the safety of the Count immediately." Without another word, he darted forward at a fast [F] speed, hearing the kitchen boy announce a fire. He slowed down as he approached the Count, who seemed completely unharmed, though the person Hadi was conversing with was walking towards the kitchen. "Count Hadi, I'm glad to see that you're safe. Is there a plan of action to address this fire?" Darin was prepared to help if needed, although he'd rather not approach the fire itself; he was not keen to experience a mixture of gunpowder and fire not contained within the barrel of his musket.

With a calm, steady gaze, Count Hadi observed as Amanda quickly took action. As the reality of the situation dawned on him, he gracefully rose from his seat, his demeanor a stark contrast to the sudden panic that filled the room. "There is," he would confidently reply to Darin before standing on a chair and table.

"Dear friends!" he called out, his voice commanding yet soothing. The trained diplomat knew well how to command attention and convey authority. "Your attention, please!"

The room gradually hushed as best as it could under the circumstances as all eyes turned towards him. A flicker of concern crossed his face, quickly replaced by an encouraging smile. He gestured with an outstretched hand towards the gardens. "Let us not allow this small disruption to spoil our evening. I invite you all to join me in the garden. The lord of this manor has assured me we have a bountiful selection of food and drink prepared for your enjoyment there."

He turned towards a nearby butler and a couple other concerned servers in the house uniform to whisper something to them. The servants moved swiftly to aid guests make their way into the gardens. As the room began to empty, Hadi sent a silent prayer of things unsaid.

Meanwhile,

fantasy-veteran-guard-captain-s-2524408962-png.1085381

As the news of the fire reached his ears, Captain Marblock immediately sprung into action. His years of service and countless drills kicked in; his priority now was the safety of the guests. The sudden panic in the room was palpable, but he knew that maintaining calm was crucial.

"Guards!" he called out, his voice ringing with authority. "Form a perimeter around the guests, guide them towards the garden and make sure no one gets hurt."

As the guests began to evacuate, he turned his attention to the source of the chaos. He quickly made his way towards the kitchen, calling upon a few guards to join him. He had to discern the cause of the fire and assess the damage.

With a stern expression and an unflinching resolve, he stepped into the smoke-filled kitchen, ready to confront whatever lay ahead. His primary duty was to protect the manor and its inhabitants, and he would see it through, come what may.

In the kitchen

was a maelstrom of smoke, flame, and panicked shouts. The fire, which had started on a stove, had already spread across the wooden countertops, hungrily lapping at the beams above. It illuminated the room with an ominous, flickering light, casting long, dancing shadows on the walls.

Several pots and pans had been knocked off the stove in the chaos, their contents spilling and sizzling on the heated stone floor. A lamb roast, once the centerpiece of the night's feast, was now charred beyond recognition and adding to the smoky haze that filled the room.

In the midst of the chaos, the kitchen staff were scrambling. Some were desperately trying to douse the flames with buckets of water fetched from a nearby well, their faces grim and streaked with soot. Others were hastily moving food and utensils away from the fire's path, salvaging what they could of the feast. The air was filled with the sounds of panicked voices, crackling flames, and the occasional crash of crockery.

Against one wall, a wide, heavy door stood closed - the entrance to the pantry. The thick oak was designed to be fire-resistant, a barrier that could hold off the flames for a time. But smoke was already creeping in around the edges, threatening the supplies stored within.

In the center of the room, the source of the fire still burned. A pot had been left unattended on the stove, its contents overheated and ignited. Now, the stove itself was ablaze, the fire fed by a now damaged heating magic device beneath.

Despite the dire circumstances, there was a certain order to the chaos. The staff, though frightened, were doing their best to follow their training for such an event. They formed a line to pass buckets of water, worked to clear a path to the pantry door, and tried to keep the flames from spreading further.

But the fire was growing, and time was running out. The kitchen, the heart of the manor, was under threat - and with it, the safety of everyone within.

Amanda was met with the chaos of the kitchen almost immediately upon entering. The smokey haze obscured her sight and assaulted her eyes, causing them to water. A cough soon followed as the warm air tickled her throat and the smoke make quick work of her airways. It hurt, quite a bit, but the surprise of the scene soon faded and Amanda was able to gather her thoughts properly thereafter. Despite the fire having progressed far further than she had originally envisioned, the chefs seemed to be operating in a panicky but organized way. The water was in high demand and it seemed to be met even if just barely by the combined effort of those who had stayed to man the fire. That being said, the use of water was probably how the fire advanced so quickly to begin with.

Looking to the charred remains of the roast Amanda was quick to spot the faulty device feeding the flames with her being [Investigation Expert]. Looking around Amanda made note of the pantry and looked to the chef closest to her, a sudden sense of impending doom overwhelming Amanda very evident on her features "You, quickly! Ditch the water line! Get to that pantry immediately and get any grains and especially any flour or powdered items out of here! If the fire consumes them we're all as good as dead!". Amanda didn't have any leadership skill but she did happen to have one advantage in this situation "Don't question my orders. I speak with the Authority of a Baroness. Now hurry, take one other and be as fast as you can".

Returning her gaze and focus then to the stove Amanda let out a sigh, of course, it was a magical device. It just had to be! Grabbing a cloth from nearby Amanda dipped it in some water from a bucket that was passing by and wrapped it around her nose and mouth. "Well, it can't all be magic...". Crouching down below the smoke Amanda made a careful approach toward the stove, keeping a safe distance as best she could while also attempting to visually inspect the device itself. "I don't know how it works but surely I can knock it loose. Screws? An inlay? How were you set little heating device... show me your secrets" Eyes beginning to glow a dim blue Amanda gazed at the item in an attempt to find a way she might knock it free {10,000 Hours? As he stood there unsurely, Darin watched the nobles began spilling out of the room and into the garden. Looking back towards the kitchen door, he shook his head. He'd help directly if he could, but unfortunately, Darin didn't have any way to combat fire. There as also the hazard of his gunpower exploding, which would certainly not be pleasant.

Seeing Hadi and the palace guards guiding the people out of the room, he decided to assist them. Slinging his firearm on his back, seeing as there was likely no use for it currently, Darin joined the perimeter that was formed. Once most of them had been guided out, he followed behind and walked into the garden himself. He planned rejoin Hadi once he saw him outside, though after wandering around for a time, he spotted a well near the side of the palace with people passing buckets. The kitchen well.

He halted for a brief moment, considering if he should wait for the Count. "Hmph, it would be selfish not to help them." Muttering to himself, Darin came to a quick conclusion. Approaching the well, he began to assist the staff in hauling buckets of water towards the kitchen as Fast [F] as he could, though he still refrained from entering it.

Smoke billowed out the kitchen door, thickening with each passing moment. The grim chorus of panicked voices echoed within the manor walls, creating a symphony of disorder that seeped into every room. Against the chaotic backdrop, Amanda's eyes were going to sting and water as the smoke clawed at her vision. Her orders was able to cut through the disarray with clarity and force. Two chefs scampered towards the pantry, spurred by her command, their hurried movements causing a mild stir among the rest of the kitchen staff.

Meanwhile, Darin joined in the collective effort to combat the flames, his small figure slipping around the others as he hurriedly hauled buckets of water from the well. His efforts did inspire those around him with renewed vigor. But as the buckets were carried inside, the water seemed to barely make a dent in the hungry flames that were only growing fiercer.

Back in the kitchen, Amanda would be forced into squinting at the stove through the smoke. Her efforts to figure out how to resolve the problem were stymied by the heat and the choking smoke that hindered her view. And as she strained to see, the flames lashed out dangerously close, threatening to engulf her. (action must be taken to avoid burns and/or ignited party clothes)

Just as things were looking increasingly dire, the chefs Amanda had sent into the pantry returned, bumping into each other as they tried avoiding the closing in fires and each other, their arms laden with sacks of grain and flour precariously close to the heat that would potentially ignite their loads instantly. Their return caused a small commotion, further muddling the already chaotic scene. Mass disaster imminent with the flour and dusty food goods now in the room with an inferno.

Simultaneously, outside, Darin's efforts started to show signs of fatigue. The number of buckets he carried would grow heavier as the stress and heat began to take their toll on his stamina. The others, too, were slowing down, their movements becoming more sluggish, their faces growing more ashen as the severity of the situation truly dawned upon them.

The fire continued to rage, seemingly mocking their attempts to subdue it. Amidst the choking smoke and the relentless flames, the collective determination of the manor's residents and staff seemed to waver. Hope was slipping away, even as the first drops of sweat began to bead on their brows. Captain Marblock would order a couple guards to get Amanda out. They would be making their way to her.
