Futuristic Implement Case Omega

Roleplay Type(s)
Ah, the grand life as a member of the Terran Confederate Navy. Long deployments to the back side of the colonies, trying, and mostly failing, to curb the ever increasing pirate raids on inter-colonial shipping. Months of boredom, occasionally punctuated by a few days of interest when your ship makes planet-fall to restock, or more boredom if the captain decides to use one of the automated outposts. Even more rare, hours of nerve wracking cat and mouse when you actually do manage to find a privateer, coupled with the prospect of taking the pirate ship as a prize. The current commander of the extended range patrol corvette Megarea seems to have a sixth sense for finding pirates, and berths aboard the Megarea are in high demand throughout the fleet, since the most junior crew member on her last cruise pocketed a bonus of 75,000 credits. You've managed to snag one of those sought after berths, and as the Megarea heads out to start her next three month cruise, the crew is in high spirits. When the Megarea drops out of warp however, she receives a garbled message over the Emergency Communications Network.

The year is 2208, and humanity has left the cradle of the solar system and begun to explore the Orion arm of the galaxy. Many life bearing worlds have been found, but only a dozen or so are compatible with human life. No intelligent life has been discovered however, and humanity has decided that they are unique, at least in this galactic arm. Unfortunately, humans being humans, there are plenty of problems without having to worry about alien hordes. Piracy is alive and well, and the Navy established to deal with it has had, limited success, mostly due to the fact that space is a big place, and star-ships are quite small. The only thing making piracy a lucrative proposition is the fact that commercial ships follow mostly predictable routes, and even the smallest warp capable ship is worth millions of credits before factoring in the value of its cargo, and desperate colonies don't ask where the goods they need come from, they just pay. So, the pirates raid, and the Navy tries its best to stop them, and life goes on. That is, until the order is issued to implement Case Omega. This order implies a direct threat to the very existence of humanity as a whole, and directs all ships to drop everything and rally at Fleet Headquarters. If a ship cannot return to Fleet Headquarters, or the Fleet receives no further orders, each ship commander is to use his or her best judgement in an attempt to ensure humanity's survival.

So, anyone interested in finding out what triggered the Case Omega?
