Fantasy ~ FableWood ~

The Roc eyed them angrily, examining the group for weakness. Kallin was still on the ground, curled up and groaning as the pain wracked his entire body.

"L-Lune...stay back.." Was all he could manage, he was barely able to speak. The Roc honed in on the mage and reached for him with a claw. Kallin looked up, he put his hand in front of him to shield himself weakly, yet as soon as he touched the talon a bolt of red lightning arced up the creature's leg and it stumbled back, so distracted was it by the shock that Takeo managed to climb without hindrance. As his sword cut through feathers and flesh the Roc screeched, leaping backwards and spreading its wings, aiming to launch into the air.

"Takeo!" Leia shouted. She was lifting Tad from the ground, the poor spirit was knocked senseless and she wouldn't be able to get to the boy in time.

As the Roc took off it sent another strong blast of air hurtling down the canyon. Suddenly a figure shot past her. t was Sinbad and he had a rope in his hands. With an expert toss he latched a noose about the bird's right talon and pulled it taught.

"I need weight!!" He yelled as the bird began to drag him along the sandy canyon floor. Soon he would be airborne too and no help at all to the boy clinging to the beast's leg. Merias jumped out from her hiding place and grabbed a portion of the rope in her teeth (still being a mare) and she too began to slide.

"Help!" She cried.

Sinbad's cry caught her attention, and she quickly turned to listen fully.

"More weight?" she said to herself, wondering if it were possible to help. Achyls took in a deep breath, before diving after the Roc. Her wings were large, though not enough to overshadow the Roc. Though, with all she could muster, she collided with the enemy, her hands fixed tight to it's hide. It was thrashing uncontrollably, making it incredibly difficult for her to hold on. In an attempt to stun the Roc, she forced a strong blast of magic into the creature, sending it surging up it's back and then it's neck. She couldn't hold on, however, and instead used her wings to flatten the Roc's, forcing them upon the beast.

Nyr wanted to help the others desperately but she knew not what to do. She felt weak even despite the efforts of Leo - she was almost is if she was severed from the source of her power. Still, she looked around and saw both Leo and Achyls joining the fray and immediately thought of joining them. This, however, turned out to be a folly as she soon felt agonizing pain wash over her once more, forcing her to kneel down.

" No... not now... " she whimpered in pain and anger. Once more she forced herself back up and flapped with her wings. Ascending from the ground she watched how the Roc flew up with Takeo and she decided that she must head there and help... if she could. With all the strength she could muster she hurled gusts of wind towards the gigantic bird, barely touching it, not causing any damage. Cursing herself of her weakness she stopped mid air as she remembered something...

Back when she had met the others for the very first time they have encountered a massive giant. There and then she was so desperate that she willingly embraced the dark heritage of her kind, the dark rituals which would allow her to wield the force of darkness with ease.

Seeing no other choice she shrugged and prepared to cast. Immediately she felt oblivion creeping around her, the dark whispers granting her the malevolent force she craved to annihilate her enemy. But secretly she had an another plan... one which she hoped she could successfully carry out while she helped the others to strike down the fiend.

Groaning from the vortex of power she felt shadows surging through her body as she looked up - now engulfed in shadow.

" We will not let you harm our allies. " she said with an otherwordy tone, charging at the massive flying beast, trying to help those who got trapped.

The white horses squealed and began to slide to a stop. Their panicked gallop was difficult to stop; the fist few reared up and Quincy had to side step to avoid their flailing hooves. The horses spun, ready to charge back and find a way down a different passage, but Otto's furry body halted them. They milled about between the two other animals, snorting heavily. If anything happened suddenly, they would spook again and run Otto over without a second thought. Quincy reached out with her mind again, but their fear still blocked them. She snorted in frustration. They would have to do this the old fashioned way.

Quincy angled herself to face them, and relaxed her own body. Slowly, her ears relaxed and her head reached toward the ground. The white water mare forced her sides to slow, and she began snuffing at the ground lazily, as if all was right in the world.

Takeo hanged on for dear life. Having one feather wrapped around his hand, while his other hand kept a grip on the sword. 'WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS!!!' He screamed internally as the bird took off and he was brought into the air. 'JUST BECUASE YOU CLIMBED A TREE DOESN'T MEAN YOU SHOULD CLIMB AN OVERSIZED BIRD!!!' Taking a deep breath as he freaked out on the inside he took the sword out of the bird's flesh. Placing the handle in his mouth (since he didn't want to put a bloody blade in his sheath* He used the his now free hand and once again started to climb once again.

'Oh genius! Keep climbing! Sure let's do that, smart! Just climb the bird...move further away from the ground lovely idea! Next time I'll just jump on a rocket and just before it breaks the atmosphere I'll jump!!' He thought. "Stop panicking!" He whispered harshly to himself even though he had the sword in his mouth. Despite this he climbed making his way for the creatures back hoping he wouldn't be thrown off by then.

All in all... this was quite the impressive day. Things happened. Some amazed Vinter, some angered, some not so much. The Roc was experiencing quite the thrashing. Leandra grew wings, Takeo felt like it was time for him to undergo flight and all the advantages of being strapped to a bird. Kallin was electrifying, as always.

Vinter stepped up, calculating the force needed to raise herself to the Roc's altitude. She stood upright, at a distance from the whole scene. There was a daring look on her face. Her jaw motioned as if she was chewing something.

Suddenly, she brought her fists together and cracked her knuckles, next came her neck. She picked up her pace and headed towards the lion man. "Leo! Gimme a boost! I feel like flying!"

@zCrookedz

Leo skid to a hault as he watched the Roc begin to take off with Takeo attached to its feet. This was bad, once in the air there wasn't much Leo could do to help yet again. Luckily someone was one step ahead as he watched Sinbad appear and toss a rope around the Roc to try and drag it to the ground. Just before he could charge in and help with the rope, Leo heard someone call his name. He turned around to see Vinter approaching with a very fierce gaze. He looked from the Roc to the woman and chuckled a bit "You may just be one of the bravest or craziest women I have ever met m'lady." He lowered his hand so she could step into his massive hand and crouch into a ball like form. He placed a hand on her shoulder to steady her and prepared himself with a deep breathe. He took one step forward and heaved his arms like a catapult, sending Vinter flying towards the Roc. Leo didn't waste any time as he continued his follow through and charged at the rope attached to the Roc. He looked up as he ran to see Nyr change into her flying form, making him worry what she intended on doing. When he reached the rope, he grabbed hold and twisted his arms around it and pulled backwards as hard as he could trying to provide both and anchor for the Roc, and hopefully lower it a bit to the ground.

Otto watched as the horses kicked and snorted in their panicked state. He looked over them to see the Quincy had begun to show a more calm nature to help calm them. Otto's ears perked up as he looked up and shifted into his human form. He spread his arms out wide and smiled at the horses. "Shhhhh, its ok ponies! Its ok. We are just trying to help." The horses seemed to calm a bit more, and Otto thought it might help to get one of the actual herd to calm down, so he inched a bit closer. Arms spread and fingers spread wide to help show he was not going to hurt them, he inched closer and closer to the snorting horses. He reached out a hand and tried to place a hand on a neck, flank, or nose hoping he could try soothing on of the horses and calm the rest down. Otto's hand reached a horse's neck after a few moments, and Otto began to slowly stoke the horses neck, feeling the heart beat pounding away underneath. "Its ok pony. shhhh."

@Flutterby

Malachai watched the scene from above. He made a loop overhead before folding his wings and plummeting to meet the bird. He and the bird were almost the same size, he was well aware that an impact with the bird would likely kill Takeo and seriously harm anyone else nearby. But he needed the speed, and the weight of this form. He dropped faster and harder. Past the flying reptilian girl now, the bird was coming up fast, he felt his bones break and shift, his scales melt into each other and his wings fold into his back as he shifted. Soon the wind was whipping his hair back and forth < haha> A flash of green and a spear was in his hand. He turned himself in the air, his spear now in both hands, flaming point down, his body upright besides it forming a flaming missile, heading straight for the Roc's wing, trying to pierce a hole into it's wing and permanently ground the bird. Out of the corner of his eye he saw a human sized figure sailing through the air. "Vinter is coming.." He whispered to himself wide-eyed as he saw more clearly the human sailing haphazardly through the air. He was confident he wouldn't hurt Achyls or Takeo, but seeing Vinter flying through the air, with no wings made him rethink his plan. With a groan his wings folded out of his back, a few flaps later and he was away from the bird, slowed significantly from falling. He watched the scene before him once more, feeling near useless as he watched his friends carry out their plan. He dropped to the canyon floor and ran to join Sinbad and the other djinn pull the rope. It seemed about the only thing he could do without endangering everyone else.

Once Banba successfully put out the fires, saving as much of their gear as possible, she calmly looked about the scene, taking in the positions of everyone. finally, she crouched to the ground, her body elongating as she slithered up to Leo as a quite sizable snake. She wrapped herself around his leg, making sure to add as much weight as possible. She giggled, wrapping herself a bit tighter.

"The river only likes the forest because it provides shade!"

Bending the knees was easy. Thinking up a witty reply to Leo's... not so much.

"Both!" she shouted.

She stooped forward and bent her knees. She felt like a spring under pressure, ready to unleash its force. Understandably, the very same thing happened. Vinter sprung away from Leo, throwing her upper body backward and twisting in the air to face the Roc's claws. When she gained enough momentum Vinter grabbed the enormous bird and launched her legs forward as if she were on a swing. When her legs returned from their trek, Vinter pulled down on the creature hoping it would lose altitude and allow for an easier 'capture'.

Vinter began laughing hysterically towards her achievements.

With all that, the sudden jerks could be felt by Takeo.

@zCrookedz @Peaceswore @SilverFlight

Seeing how her comrades were fighting and clinging for their dear lives the fury within Nyr stirred and intensified. She was not about to lose more of those she loved... never again would she allow that to happen. She let out a bellowing screech as she turned into her true form, her wings blackening the sky for a moment as she flapped with them. Her ebony black feathers were now encircled by crimson runes of power, her eyes burning in a vengeful flame as the massive avian creature fixated at the enemy. With a furious swipe she lifted her claws, trying to main the flying creature but her first attempt missed. Annoyed at this she tried to rake or at least maim the creature - her eyes illuminated by that dark haze.

Arianne felt the darkness lifting from her eyes - but she was not happy about it. She did not feel the malevolent force to recede... it just concentrated elsewhere, and somehow she had the feeling that she knew where. Observing the battlefield she saw the massive raven fighting as the others were already at the back of the other beast. The little girl still felt weak but conjured a globe of light nonetheless. The glowing orb observed its master curiously, being afraid of her condition but the little girl just smiled.

" It is okay, go. " she encouraged the ball " They need you. Illuminate their path... save them if you need to... "

The last words came out as but mere whispers. She wanted to believe that they will be fine... that is how they should be. Yet she could never be cautious enough.

When Otto turned into a more familiar form, the horses seemed to relax a little. Through Otto's coaxing and Quincy's calming body language, the pack horses' panic receded. As soon as it had, Quincy's presence pressed into their minds, pushing calming reassurance. Soon, the horses were standing amiably. The kelpie weaved in and out of the group, brushing their flanks and pressing her nose to their bodies. They seemed to accept her readily now, despite how chilly her coat felt against theirs. At last, the whole band was calmed. Quincy transformed to her human form and smiled over at Otto. "Good work, Otto. You make a wonderful wrangler." She said, rubbing the forehead of one of the steeds. "Theyre magnificent animals, but bravery does not come naturally to them."

@zCrookedz

The roc seemed only irritated by the heroes, though their efforts hampered its rise above the canyon. Achyls' tackle together with Vinter and Takeo made it falter in a flap and drop. Catching sight of the diving Malachai the bird pivoted so the spear pierced through its thick primary feathers, cutting through the stone-like ribs with a loud crack. A feather fragment the size of a canoe tumbled from the bird's right wing. Now however the great beast only had eyes for the new bird that had now appeared. It screeched a warning before lashing out to try and lock talons with Nyr. This meant its wings were at a bad angle for lift and it would be more easily taken from the sky.

Merias squeaked as the was dragged forward with Sinbad.

"Its no use! Even with all of us together! The roc could make off with a full-grown elephant it is so big!"

"What about two elephants?" Aliphas who had previously been bound to the saddle of Leo's mount had since had the sense to detach the saddle. Now he came barreling down the canyon floor in the form of a huge bull elephant, saddle trailing in the dust. Merias grinned and transformed as well, sitting down on her grey, leathery hide as Aliphas grabbed the rope and did the same.

Leia saw what they were doing and looked to Bob.

"Buddy, give them a hand?"

The earth spirit growled in approval and began pulling the surrounding sand and rock to build his form again. Now the size of a rhino and twice as heavy he too grabbed the rope and sat, fighting the large bird as best he could.

"Hold on Takeo!! We'll get you down! Just don't fall off!"

Pain still coursed through Kallin's body but her forced himself to sit up. He clutched his chest, wincing with the effort and groped for his staff.

At this point he could do nothing but watch the fight.

"Now heroes! Bring it down!" Sinbad yelled, speaking to anyone who wasn't holding onto the rope.

Takeo eyes widened when a sudden jolt happened because of Vinter attack the Roc. At this he tightened his grip on the feathers and brought his body close to the bird so he wouldn't fall off. However the feathers that he was gripping onto for dear life came loose. Seeing this Takeo quickly grabbed some other feathers and moved up a bit trying to find the safest place on this dangerous ride. Not only did he have to worry about falling to his death he now had to worry about the bout that the Roc was getting in with the other bird, and also worry about not getting crushed if the Roc were to fall from the sky. Knowing the moment the Roc got in a fight with the giant bird he would be knocked about and will likely fall he climbed even faster.

The blade still in his mouth as he had no time to put it in it's sheath. He kept climbing ignoring the weariness of his arms for holding his weight for this long. Soon despite all that was going on Takeo made it to the Roc back just above the tail. Here he held on with one hand before taking the sword out of his mouth. Using this he stabbed the rock deep into it's back, not really doing much in the damaging effect, but it sure would feel annoying to the bird. Taking out the bloody sword he started to make his way for the birds head using his sword to stab the bird before moving forward, the hot win blasting in his face making it hurt like hell, sand every now and then got in his eyes, and his arms were tired, but he didn't stop, he kept going forward. 'I won't let go... I won't fall' he thought using Leia's words as a slight encouragement to keep going.

Leo held tight of the rope as the bird moved around with attacks flying in every direction. It seemed to slow, but not to where it liked. It wasn't until he felt Banba wrap around his leg that he looked down at the shape shifter. He looked up as Merias spoke and then to Aliphas, the two of them gave Leo an idea. He called out to Banba around his leg "Banba! Can you match them? Change into an elephant? We need lots of weight!"

Leos eye shot back up at the Roc began to engage with Nyr. He continued to pull on the rope, adding any strength to help bring the nasty bird down.

Otto watched as the horses calmed slowly but surely. Between him and Quincy, the pare had managed to save what supplies and transportation the were bound to have in this place. Otto smiled big as he wrapped his arms around the neck of the horse he had placed his hand on and hugged the horse gingerly. Watching as Quincy changed back Otto released the horse and rubbed the back of his head as he smiled at her. "Ah, I was just following your lead. You were great back there!" Otto's smiled flicked off as he heard the ruckus coming from where they had just come from, sounds of screeching and a fight. Otto began to worry about the others "It doesn't sound like the fight is over yet. But we cant take the horses back yet, I don't want to have to chase after these guys again."

Luness narrowed her eyes at Kallin and then said quietly and evenly, "I'm not leaving you here, Kal." Seeing Kallin in so much pain and not being able to do anything for him made Luness feel so helpless. Was there nothing she could do? Nothing at all?

Seeing the Roc attempting to grab at Kallin, Luness snarled at it, her eyes shifting into their dark, red crimson color for a brief moment, but suddenly red lightning shot out from Kallin and shocked the large bird away from the pair.

Once the Roc took flight once more and was quickly distracted by the group in their various tactics to bring it down, Luness anxiously returned her attention to Kallin, as he sat up and seemingly struggled to breathe while trying to grab his staff. In an attempt to help him somehow, Luness picked up his staff and gently placed it in his groping hand, her own hand brushing up against his glove in the process.

Leandra let out a sigh of relief, despite the sudden increase of pain during the healing process, as Leo healed her injured wing for her.

Focusing intently on the muscles in her wings, Leandra was more than pleased when they obeyed her and highly folded up against her back, though they still stuck out like a sore thumb. In the process of focusing on her wings though, Leandra had to furiously blink when she looked away due to the bright white coloring of her wings temporarily blinding her a bit.

Once her eyes had readjusted, Leandra remained where she was sitting in the middle of the canyon while the group worked together to take down the Roc.

Watching Nyr shift into her huge raven form while Takeo climbed the bird itself and Vinter was literally thrown at the bird, Leandra had to wonder how the Roc was still flying. Malachai tore a hole in one of its wings (ouch) and then most of the rest of the group managed to lasso the bird and was now trying to ground it.

Was the fight nearing its end?

Hugging her knees to her chest with her wings tucked against her back and sticking out over her shoulders, Leandra quietly watched the fight, as she felt rather useless.

Yet, her eyes soon wandered from the group and she noticed Luness and Kallin not too far away. Kallin appeared to be in immense pain and Leandra suddenly wondered if she could be of use there.

Forcing herself to stand and doing her best to keep her wings tucked against her back, Leandra then quickly jogged over to the pair and halted before she then calmly walked up to them and curiously asked either of the pair, "Can I help here? I don't know what injury you've sustained, Kallin, but perhaps I could relieve some of the pain?"

@SilverFlight

Achyls tried with all her might to stop the bird from flying, forcing her body down upon the bird so that it's wings remained flat. There was no way it could escape now. But this wasn't enough. She needed to bring the bird down. With all her might, she pressed talons made solely of dark magic into the Roc's feathers. It seemed to judder and dive at her touch, making it hideously difficult to hold on. Her heart was pounding, fearful that she wouldn't be of any use. This wasn't the time for such thoughts, however.

(short post, sorry)

Banba calmly looked up at Leo as he called her name, then mentioned the other two shapeshifters. She grinned, moving so her snake body was wrapped around the rope, shifting in the process. She became large, larger than Leo. She was vaguely elephant shapped, with a trunk and four tree stump like feet, but there seemed to be a growth on her. It was mostly black, oozing down her back and head. Green parts of vegitation were stuck here and there, waving in the wind from the Roc's wing movements. Banba wrapped her trunk around the rope, standing beside Leo as she lowered it as much as she could, blinking ooze out of her eyes.

Malachai let go of the rope as the dinner shifted, and the reptilian girl as well. He ran over to the other side pulling his crystal up, a flash of light and he had a sickle on a length of green rope. He twirled it a few times before letting loose, the sickle flying and wrapping around the Roc's other taloned leg. "A little help on this end!!!" He called out to anyone as his muscles bulged and he pulled on the rope.

Kallin turned to Luness as she brought his staff closer, suddenly he realized she was too close.

"No Lune! Stay back!" Too late, she brushed against him and in an instant the air was filled with red lightning. Kallin recoiled, not knowing what the sparks would do to her. It was all he could manage to throw himself away from Leandra as she came close.

Then in an instant the chaos evaporated. The pain released him and he collapsed onto the sand, breathing heavily.

"Lune?" He asked, fear and worry in his voice. Had she been hurt?

@Aldur Forgehammer @Peaceswore @SkywardSocks @andujarprime @Jecklyn @Morgrim [/color]

In a bright, red flash, Luness suddenly was sent flying backwards from Kallin, as she then collapsed and slid a few feet through the sand about ten meters away from where Kallin now lay.

Lightning arced across her body and Luness convulsed a few times, her eyes wide, as she was seemingly paralyzed. A low groan came from her, as the lightning danced about her body, sharp pain like daggers to her head every time the lightening danced about her body once more.

Yet, just as soon as the lightning had made its appearance, it was gone. As the lightning stopped dancing about Luness' body, she seemed to finally relax, but instead of remaining awake, she closed her eyes and soon completely relaxed as she became unconscious.

@SilverFlight

~~~~~
Leandra was surprised when Kallin yelled at Luness and even more so surprised when Luness was suddenly sent flying and landed in a heap not too far away.
"Shit! Luness!" Leandra shouted, as she turned away from Kallin and rushed to Luness' side in time for the lightning to seemingly dissipate, though Luness didn't appear to be moving anytime soon.
Watching as Luness appeared to be paralyzed at first and then passed out, Leandra then hoped that the lightning wouldn't return, as she dropped to her knees beside Luness and lightly touched her forehead. Yet, when she tried to heal Luness, Leandra let out a surprised shriek of pain, as she felt something seemingly stab at her head from within until she removed her hand from Luness.
Terrified and uncertain of what was wrong with Luness, Leandra quickly stood and rushed to Kallin, though she skidded to a halt near him as opposed to going straight to his side.
Uncertain and fearful of the extent of the injuries to both Kallin and Luness, Leandra quickly said to Kallin, "Kallin, are you okay? Can I approach you without whatever happened to Luness happening to me as well?"
Hearing Kallin's concern for Luness, Leandra inched towards him and stopped before adding in a softer tone, "Something's wrong with Luness, Kallin. It was like she was paralyzed at first, but now she's completely unconscious and I can't seem to wake her. I tried to heal her...but I instead felt agonizing pain."
@SilverFlight
He say that the girl Luness was knocked out cold, and the fearful Leandra trying to approach Kallin. The whole situation was confusing to him, they were friends but two were harmed and one was afraid of the one who had been harmed, not afraid for him. He approached Leandra and tapped her on the shoulder. "What's the matter, what happened to your friends?" Morgrim was more so curious than actually sympathetic for them, but if they would somehow slow down the group, or even pose a threat the issue should be resolved as soon as possible. Time was of the essence, and they couldn't waste a moment with how much time they all ready spent taking down the Roc.
@Lioness075
Banba's choice in creature transformations was, surprising, to say the least. Leo hopped that this "elephant" was something she had concocted in her head and not an actuall creature. None the less, It did what was intended and Leo felt the bird begin to lower. Between the attacks, the ropes, and the weight pulling down on it; Leo had to show great respect to the Roc for its endurance and strength. Finally the great bird was on the ground, and Leo felt a bit releaved to see that the creature was finally down.
The mental voice that resonated in his mind, surprised Leo. He would not have guessed a creature such as this Roc would have been able to speak. But they way it spoke was much more than some mindless animal. Leo could sympathize with the great bird wanting to protect his home. Leo spoke out loud so that the others could hear him, hoping that he was not the only one to hear the creature in his head. "We do not wish for you to die great protector of the skies. We merely wish to pass so that we may reach the Temple." After he had spoke, Leo heard someone call out and turned to see Luness, Kallin, Leandra, and Morgrim in a panic. Leo held onto the rope still, not wanting to risk letting the Roc loose once again to kill his friends.
@SilverFlight
Otto stood stroking the horses neck until finally the canyon before them began to sound less like a struggle. He looked back to Quincy and shrugged "I think they won. I don't here a giant eagle anymore, and it didn't fly off. Lets go make sure everyone is ok." Otto looked over the horse and reached for the saddle still strapped to it. He pulled himself up and took the reigns like Kallin had showed him. Thought he could be scattered when people talked, Otto had actually paid attention when Kallin was teaching him and Luness about ridding horses. He gave the horse a squeeze with his heels and made a clicking noise with his tongue, and the horse began to meander back the way they had come. He looked back to see the other horses had begun to follow which made him smile even more. Otto looked at the back of his saddle and found a canteen attached, the sound of water sloshing around inside. He unhooked it and held it out to Quincy "Thirsty? We ran a long way."
@Flutterby
Kai winced at the boom in his head. The Roc was powerful indeed to catch the dragon unawares. He held onto his rope and made his way to stand beside Leo. "Relax, please. We were just passing through, we meant no harm!" He called to the bird, he almost let slip a few sarcastic and rude comments. But decided against it, now wasn't the time for more fighting. And he held a sizable respect for this creature of immense strength, prowess, and obvious intelligence.
