Run away!

After a few feet, she finally dared to peek an eye open. The girl was not in sight! Yes, she made it! Wait, no. There was a sudden harsh pull on her tender precious tail. "Owwwww...Hey, let me go!"

"This thing's pretty handy. For me."

Izzy, squeezed her eyes closed again. She had her by the tail, this was the end! No going down in the blaze of glory for her. "Goodbye cruel world. Good night sweet...CRAP," this was her last internal monologue and she could not even remember the quote. Oh well, it was all over now. Time to just wait for death. She flinched, waiting for the pummeling but it never came.

"Listen, kid. I don't have the patience to beat you up, nor will it be half as entertaining or rewarding because you're so damn tiny. So don't fuck with me again."

"Wait, what?" Suddenly, she was freed and the girl left her be, while taking to the stairs instead.

"You've got guts, though. I'll give you that."

That part did not sound like a death threat. Izzy carefully and cautiously followed her up the stairs, heading for the class room.

"You in collateral damage?"

It took her a moment to collect herself. Once they reached the next level, she finally spoke up, "Yeah, I guess I am. I sort of have been skipping classes for a while. Today will be my first real day. " Wow, it was a Saturday miracle. Isabella Chase was alive, talking to another super, in facility 108, on her way to class. It seemed almost possible, they might even make it to class on time. Then, of course, the bell rang. Apparently, that last part, was asking a little too much.

Clad in a simple black T-shirt and dark washed skinny jeans, Ziya pushed her tussled black hair to the edges of her face as she stepped off of the bus. The shuttle had taken much longer than it usually did due to the icy roads and the incompetence of some drivers in traffic. She immediately began walking towards the Facility, which was only a couple blocks away from the bus stop, as the cool air against her pale skin quickly lightened up her mood.

Two women, each huddled in layers of clothing, walked by and stared at her strangely when they noticed that she was only wearing a T-shirt in such chilly weather. Her piercing blue-gray eyes, however, were busy observing her snow-covered surroundings. The weather was cold and wet, just the way she liked it. Once her powers in water manipulation had activated a few months ago, which was rapidly followed by her control over ice, her weather preference had shifted drastically. She noticed that the more water present in her environment, the stronger her abilities, and the happier she was.

Ten minutes later, the familiar shipyard came into view and Ziya headed towards the class buildings. She felt the immediate temperature change as she entered the building and began walking up the stairs. On her way up, she saw an angry-looking Japanese girl yank the tail of a young girl with cat-like ears, recognizing the taller girl as Alexis. Ziya had never received a friendly vibe from Alexis, assuming it was because the other girl's power involves fire while her own involves water.
"Listen, next time she bothers you, just let me know. I'll put that fire out real quick," Ziya told the small girl with the animal-like features, a smirk on her face as she glanced over at Alexis.

With another lingering glance, Ziya pushed past the two of them, walking right in between them, and reached the top of the stairs. After a few more turns, she entered the classroom to her Mental Discipline class. Although her power was not as reliant on mental control as some of the others were, her sub-power, hydrokinetic spying, required the utmost concentration. The ability to spy and communicate through the element of water was mentally draining, even for a focused mind like her. However, she did sometimes question the capability of the professor. He was often too impulsive and disorganized for her, but Ziya had to admit that she did admire his musical talent and extensive teachings.

The first thing she noticed when she walked in was the loud music that bounded off the walls. A disgruntled look instantly appeared on her face at the blaring music as she took a seat in the middle row.
"Good mor-," she started to say in her normal voice, but stopped once she realized that the loud music was drowning out her voice. "GOOD MORNING!" she shouted over the music at Asher, a clearly unpleasant look on her face, as her piercing blue-gray eyes stared at the professor. It was then that Ziya noticed the two new students in the class who she didn't recognize, a small Asian girl and a brown-haired Caucasian girl, both seeming rather shy and soft-spoken. Having only been at the Facility for a few months, she was still getting to know everyone, but she only hoped that her classmates weren't as chaotic as their teacher was.

- Who are you... what are you... ? Why do you kill all those people...

Laurent asked.

- I'm you... deep inside. And it wasn't just me who wanted to kill them, it was you.

- Bullshittt!!! I'm not a monster!! Get out of my head!! What the fuck are you!!!

- I said it... I am you... I AM... HE-MAN!!!

- WHAT THE FUCK ?!!!

It was just a dream... From all those weird lights and music. Who the hell put on that weird music at this time of the day...

- Is this some kind of joke ?

Laurent mumbles, as he sit up, he has been lied down the class bench for likes hours, trying to get some sleep. He feels uncomfortable already, the room starts to fill with students, and weird music and that weird professor... The class is probably about to start.

The first thing Mitch do after successfully drag herself out of her bed is making a breakfast. Not much, just a simple microwaved cheese sandwich and a warm tea. She needs one, especially in a morning this chilly. Mitch doesn't even want to think about how cold the weather is outside, but she is lucky since the Facility is just next door. Doesn't need to walk around much in the cold, she'll be warm again when she entered the building. But really, who have the brilliant idea of scheduling class on Saturday? Weekends is like, an oasis for them students. Whatever, it's not like she's the only one that has to suffer.

Wearing a white v-neck underneath her buttoned-down denim, with a red scarf around her neck and a backpack on her back, Mitch quietly started walking toward the Facility fifteen minutes before ten. Both the road and the Facility looked almost deserted, except for the occasional passing vehicle and the slender black haired girl walking in front of her... Wearing nothing but a simple black t-shirt and skinny jeans in this kind of weather.

She's friends with this kind of weather, said her inner thoughts. Mitch doesn't see her face, but she's pretty sure that the girl is the water manipulator who joined them a few months ago. What was her name again... Ziva? Ziya? Water girl entered the building and started climbing up the stairs with Mitch trailing behind her, and watches as the girl greeted... An angry looking Asian girl that she recognize as Alexis, holding a tail belonging to a cat-girl standing next to her.

A girl with a temper as hot as her power, her inner thoughts started whispering again. And a cat.

"You better let that go, i think that hurts her." Mitch stopped and speaks out. Sounds of music could be heard blasting from one of the classrooms upstairs as if telling the students that class has started. Mitch pretty sure that it's not coming from Political Powes, Mr. Denzil doesn't look like someone who's going to play such a song this upbeat. "Hear that? Class is in session, don't just stand there and block the way."

OOC: Dayum, Praxi~
"Really, I just can't believe that Jamie would turn on Rebecca like that! Last season he had all but sealed the deal with her, and now all that's just falling apart! Ahh! Why can't love just be simple and beautiful~?"

A long, dreamy sigh came from over the phone, one that was reflected in a more silent, mental way by the one listening to it. In the early morning hours of that particular Saturday, one Praxidike Kokinos was on the phone with none other than her older sister. It was a rather common occurrence really. The promotion that had brought Praxi to Baltimore had caused her to move away from the home she grew up in. With Praxi working the hours during the day and her sister working exclusively in the evening, this was the only time the two sisters could reliably contact one another. As such, Praxi's weekends more often than not started with the latest update on her sister's reality TV show of the week. Oh yes, Praxi looked forward to that part so very much.

"People are just love-dumb, Elke," she replied cooly, "You should know that by now. I'm sure you've made quite a few people think the same thing since we last talked." A flattered giggling was heard in return, making Praxi roll her eyes. No, she had expected her sister to take that as a compliment. Words like that to a dancer like her just meant they were doing their job. Sure, Elke took her pride in her job to the next level, but it was still the same outcome either way. Praxi just accepted it, and used the reprieve in her ranting to try and finish up her preparation for the day.

Though it was the weekend, Praxi had been assigned to help keep an eye on the Community Service excursion going to the zoo. It wasn't cutting into any kind of personal schedule - as she had quite the lack of one for the most part - so she accepted it as it was given. Besides, how crazy could some high schoolers at the zoo ge-

She cut that thought off midway to keep the possible scenarios from developing.

Fast forward a little bit to the present, where Praxi shifted her phone for her shoulder to hold as she finished zipping up her boots. Today was Saturday. Saturday was a weekend day. As such, as much as Praxi enjoyed doing things by the book and up to a professional standard, she was going to this outing in whatever civvies she felt like wearing. Luckily enough Praxi's sense of fashion was for the most part one-toned. All of the possible outfits included her more winter inclined fur lined biker's jacket (black leather), a pair of tight fitting, slightly worn jeans (dark blue), and a pair of heeled knee or thigh high boots (black leather).

She would wholeheartedly blame her sister for her preference for leather.

Topping it all off would be a black and white long sleeve with the words CHASE THE SUN written in bold gold lettering. Pulling it on gave Praxi a small reprieve from her sister's banter, as well as acting as a good point to begin bringing their talk to a close.
"As much as I am absolutely enthralled by the romantic drama of the cast of... What was the name of the show again?"

"Bayshore Bohemia~" she said with a chipper tone.

"Yeah, that. As interesting as it is, I've gotta get going, Sis. Working Community Service class with some students and staff." Elke began to whine into Praxi's ear, who continued to work through it by standing and moving to fetch her coat. She had become accustom to resisting the urge to curb the sheer disappointment in her sister's voice. It was one of the things that got her hooks into customers, and got them to keep promises of coming back more often than not. Praxi just responded with a sigh, her steps bringing her from the bedroom and over to the coat rack in the livingroom. "C'mon Elke, you know better than that."

"But Praxi, fávlo angeloúdi mou! I miss you so very much~! When are you going to come visit again? I have some things that I want to give you, but I don't want to send them. They might break!" The pout and twisting of her body in protest could be felt by Praxi. She was really pouring it on today. "Pleeeease? Just a little longer~?"

Praxi paused in the middle of slipping her arm into the other sleeve of her jacket. Damn it, sometimes her sister was so damn unreasonable, but she knew how to wear down her otherwise solid front. Inside jobs were always the most effective. After a few moments of silence, Praxi pulled her arm the rest of the way through with another sigh.
"Look, I'll text you when I'm almost home, okay? This class shouldn't take long, and you don't have work until early evening. If things go as planned-"

"If things go as planned?"

"Yes, Elke. If things go as planned, I should be back in time to talk to you for a bit before you head off. That's my compromise."

This time it was Elke's turn to give a pause, though hers was filled with the grumbles of deep thinking. Praxi took advantage of the time to zip up and adjust her jacket, and was halfway through putting her signature leather gloves on when she finally answered.
"I guess I can wait that long... Buuut if you're late, I'm going to make you watch as many Bayshore Bohemia episodes as we can fit in before work!" The cheer in her older sister's voice during her statement was enough to make Praxi crack a smile.

"Well then, I better get running if I'm gonna make it on time. The last thing I wanna spend time on is some cheesy young adult drama." Praxi chuckled, then gave an audible kiss to the air in front of the receiver. "S'agapó."

"S'agapó perissótero~"

Vroom vroom~

With a roll of her wrist Praxi closed the door of her Dodge Charger, the locks clicking into place on their own as her eyes scanned the area. While the snow on the ground had kept most folks indoors, that hadn't dampened the plans of some of the more persistent folks walking in and out of the zoo's entrance. It was even more impressive with the hour of the day. Praxi perked a brow.
"The place opened around half an hour ago, didn't it?" She spared a few moments to muse over the plight of the staff within, then brought her day bag onto her shoulder, turned and started her walk towards the designated corner.

Even from her place in the parking lot she could see the scene going down. Already a few students had arrived and remained in waiting, but an adult aside from herself had yet to show that she could recognize. Furthermore, she was questioning if the mound of fluff on the ground was also a student. Her mind flipped through her catalogue of mental mug shots, and the one that she came up with made her huff. Without a second thought Praxi pulled her pack, brought out a single stick and light it up before approaching too closely. By the time she had gotten close enough she had nursed a nice, healthy burning cherry at the end. She felt she was going to need it before they went in.

"Didn't take you for the sky gazing type, Brahn." As she stepped up onto the sidewalk her gaze turned onto the other two present. The other boy she was able to pull a name for quickly enough, but the girl took an extra moment or so of processing to find. The picture Praxi had on file was one without her face being obscured by the visor, though her eyes had been closed. She gave the two of them a nod. "Keysor, Beckett." And lastly, Praxi reached down, grabbed the miniature Stay Puft Marshmallow Man by the front of his outer most coat and hoisted him back onto his feet. The kid was light enough, but with what was on his file she took some extra precautions to set him down as gently as possible. "Pro tip: The sidewalk of a high traffic site isn't exactly the smartest place to lay down."

Oh yeah, Praxi was just wonderful with kids.

A "nice to meet you, too, Kennith" had been tossed over his shoulder somewhere during the agent's rapid-fire spiel about Commonwealth with the understanding that something or someone was bound to interrupt before Joel heard back. The new kid deserved a break. (Especially if that was
Marianne he had heard behind him. She'd take him on a run for his money.)

Blessedly unaware of one Mr. Kravitz's animosity and exhaustion-induced
bitchiness irritability, Joel heard only the curiosity and good will in his classmates' voices. Some were with manners while others lacked in the professionalism department - not that they were rude or anything. Just naive. You know, the way teenagers were wont to behave, even in the face of an authority figure.

Ironically and hilariously enough, the one who conducted himself in a proper manner - Joel believed his name was Kendrick? - got shot down like a Thanksgiving turkey. Armed with the knowledge that the director was no stiff, Joel allowed himself a faint ghost of a smile. He was perfectly content to listen to the conversation bounce between the young'uns while chuckling at their expense.

Or at least he would have been if not for Kennith's awkward fumbling.

"If we're keeping you from prior commitments, Director, I'm sure there's someone competent enough you can delegate to our cheery band of misfits."

Cat-girl seemed to be pretty stupefied that she hadn't had her face pummeled in. Good. Better to have some fear linger as not to have it happen again. She really didn't have patience to punch someone so tiny. Alexis' anger began to simmer down as she climbed up the stairs with the little girl traveling behind her.

"Yeah, I guess I am. I sort of have been skipping classes for a while. Today will be my first real day. "

"Fun." Alexis said with a yawn, "Listen, next time she bothers you, just let me know. I'll put that fire out real quick," Alex jumped, whipping around to face her opposite. Instantly the savage glare came back and Alex muttered an very pissed "Fuck you." Before continuing up the stairs, this time, stomping and seething with anger. She left ever so slightly charred footprints on the steps in her wake. She despised Ziya because of her power over her, how easily her own fire abilities could be quenched with just a little bit of water, which Ziya could manipulate to her will.

"You better let that go, I think that hurts her." Great. Another person who decided it was their job to muddle in her business. "No shit, Sherlock!" Alexis barked. "That was the goddamn point." She said, quieter this time, now leaving the others behind to slam open the door of the classroom, with no regard for the.. well, collateral damage.

And believe it or not, the teacher wasn't even here yet. Alexis snorted. Some waste of a Saturday.

First time in Baltimore. A pair of closed eyes instantly shot wide open. Ioana tried to grab the duvet and drag it over herself, but it was sitting in an uneven mess on the floor. A chill went down her spine which left her in a contemplative state. She had classes and she needed to get those, otherwise they'd send the murderer back to the cell. She turned over on the couch and buried her face on the pillow.

Wearing only a tank top and underwear, naturally, the cold started to bite at her. A muffled groan of frustration surfaced. She had gotten up, put a fitted letterman jacket over her bare shoulders and went to the bathroom. An existential brushing of teeth later, the girl found herself wanting to disappear. Ways to get rid of the limiter popped up and dissipated as she pulled up a pair of black cargo pants.

Ioana forgot her poor stomach hadn't gotten any sustenance for a whole night. She threw another jacket over the letterman, in hopes of not freezing to death outside. Eden was nowhere to be found. Weird, seeing as this was his...mother's apartment. A pair of sneakers later and Ioana was out in the snow. She buried her hands deep into her pockets and rushed to the Facility. Luck had it that Eden's place wasn't too far.

There she was... Training Facility 108. It looked dead. Dead-er than an Italian mobster, whose parietal lobe found shelter on Ioana's black boot precisely one year ago. She could practically see his faceless, lifeless corpse in the snow. The image prompted her to rub her eyes. Once inside, Ioana looked for
Collateral Damage and You. The class was supposed to teach students how to control their powers so they cause as little collateral damage as possible. She had foreseen a unique question being asked by the Facility's staff: "How could she possibly have such a large body count? She can only run fast. There are no explosions involved."

No, the explosions only came around when she was asked to bust meth labs. While she was pondering the scenario, something peculiar drew her attention. Ioana stared for a few seconds. Her face, while not exactly housing a frown, looked tense. In the heat of the moment, she pinched her wrist. Nothing, of course. Ioana wasn't the extra character in some anime. The cat girl was indeed real. Same as the little bundle of angst tugging on her tail.

The responses she gave the students that mouthed their displeasure about the whole ordeal amused Ioana. She couldn't help but lift the corners of her mouth and let out a subtle
"Gimme a break!" The angsty girl might have heard that Ioana did not care. Hopefully, she'd react. There was plenty of time for that, seeing as the classroom was empty.

"Of course, professor. Thank you."

Ren opened her bag, the zipper's time making her vision go dark for a moment, reaching into the satchel to grab a notepad and pen. She pulled them up to sit on her desk, flipping open the notebook to a clean page.

Her head turned to look towards the door as another girl poked her head in, addressing the teacher. This man was... odd. He liked loud and frankly obnoxious music, but he seemed to be enjoying it, so she supposed that was fair enough. Let him have his peculiarities - it wouldn't influence her much either way, would it?

Ren raised her hand, tentatively waving at the girl at the door.

"Yeah. Well, I mean, I'm assuming this is mental discipline. Sit down?"

She gestured to the seat beside her-

-and then there was a boy, sitting up at the back of the classroom.

Where are these people coming from? Class isn't even close to starting.

Location: AEGIS Training Facility 108 - Entrance

I hope people don't take too long to appear...

OOC: Sorry for the large post but, me and @welian made a joint flashback thingy to fill in some holes :33

Flashback Start

After a few minutes of awkwardly trading apologies and insisting that the blame was theirs, Morgan began to realize that this was going absolutely nowhere. You didn’t have to be a mind-reader to figure that one out, honestly.

The boy sighed in defeat, and crossed his arms. “Fine. I accept your apology.” He took out his cellphone and checked the time, and was unhappy to see that they were both disastrously late for class.

“Now just… let me walk you to class, or something. Or if you want, come by my mom’s place tomorrow.” Morgan slid her a little business card, with the name and address of a bakery on it. He did his best to smile warmly at Cecilia, to let her know that he wasn’t mad at her, so much as he was frustrated with how terrible this Friday the 13th had been.

“Pick out whatever cupcake you want, it’ll be on me, okay? Just… don’t cry.”

Upon hearing the boy's words, the tears Cecilia had been trying to hide began to silently flow down her face. She attempted to dry them with her hand, but they just refused to stop. How could he be so kind with her, when she could have put him in a hospital bed?

After a couple of seconds of calming herself down, Cecil dried her final tears and shot a smile back in the boy's direction:"Ehh, too late?", she laughed softly.

"Thanks for the invite~ I...would prefer if I paid for my own bill though, since we're both responsible for what happened, it's not fair to let you pay it all.", she replied, while fiddling with the recently given card. Letting other pay for her actions, was one thing that Cecilia would never do.

"I'm headed to Mental Discipline class now. I appreciate the company, definitely wouldn't want to get lost in the facility's corridors again...", she mumbled in dislike, before remembering something else:

"Ah, before I forget. I'm Cecilia", the girl extended her hand for a friendly shake, "What's your name?"

“Well, let me at least buy you hot chocolate or something. It’s the gentlemanly thing to do!” Despite what he just said about manners, when she stuck out her hand, he just pretended not to notice, and kept his hands in his pockets.

“I go by Morgan,” he said. “Funny – I’m going to that class too. I hope we’re not late… The teacher is kind of weird, and the class is difficult enough already.”

Cecilia felt a little sad when, her hand shake didn't get an answer like she had intended it to, however, seeing as he had probably just missed it all together, she kept on with the conversation:

"Okay Mr. Gentlemanly. if it's going to make you feel better, you can buy me a hot chocolate~", she replied in a teasing but, also friendly manner.

"Weird teacher and difficult class?", she let out, with a faint tone of disbelief, "That doesn't sound like a good combination to me... And, It probably means we should HURRY UP!"

The girl rushed closer to the corridor and, making a dramatic beckoning movement with both her arms, towards it's entrance, addressed Morgan again: "Would you please, kindly lead the way?"

Morgan stared at her for a moment, and looked down the hallways where she was gesturing. She really did remind him of his little sister - in all the good ways, at least.

“Sure,” he said. “It’d be my honor.” He grinned.

“Other way.” With that, he started to walk off in the opposite direction, glancing over his shoulder to make sure Cecilia was following along.

Feeling a bit silly, Cecilia followed Morgan through the corridors. She was really glad to have him as a guide, otherwise, the probability of her getting lost around the facility was large. These corridors made absolutely no sense to her...

After a while, the faint sound someone speaking in a rather fast manner could be heard. Even though, It seemed like the teen duo was still pretty far from it's source. For his voice to echo like this through the corridors probably meant that whoever was speaking, they were a VERY loud person.

"Wow, who could be THIS loud inside a school building?", the girl commented to herself.

"That... that would be the teacher," Morgan admitted. "He's... boisterous. Sounds like we're late."

He sighed, disappointed in today's success in ruining his perfect record of grades and attendance. "Let's get this over with."

Flashback End

While still in her bed, covered in blankets, Cecilia recalled the happenings of yesterday, plus the loud and weird class that followed it. Inside her covers was so warn and nice that, even though she was already awaken, the alarm 3 got ignored 3 times before being turned off. Why did it have to be so cold, on a day she had Saturday classes?

Saturday classes? That was cetainly a first for the young Italian, still, it wasn't like she had anything else to do but watch television all day. Going to school, would certainly make it less dull. Though, it also meant her plans with Morgan would have to wait...

Removing the warmth layers from above her and getting up from her bed, the girl saw a certain pair of gloves lying above her table, she hadn't seen Mr.Denzil after the snowball war yesterday, so she couldn't return them. It was a good thing she had Political Powers as her next class, that way, she could give these back, before she forgot about it.

She was also looking forward to see Denzil teaching. He sounded so happy when he explained her about his class, he seem to really love what he does! It's inspiring!

Being it a weekend, Cecilia didn't have normal school classes, meaning, she could wear something else than her uniform. It felt good to wear something other than the same shirt and skirt she was used to but, it was a complete loss that today was so cold... Her beloved dresses would have to wait 'till a warmer weather, what a pity.

Putting on a long sleeved blue shirt, a light brown coat with a hoodie, jeans, boots and a white scarf, all obviously, above her pyjamas, because she dared not take it out in such a weather, the Italian was ready to go.

She grabbed her backpack, that she had already prepared last night because, 'Making things in a hurry, always end up in trouble', was one her grandmother's sayings, one the girl had adopted for life.

Cecilia entered the bus that would take her to AEGIS. It was quite a trip but, the girl paid it not much attention, thinking on what wonderful things could happen today and all the people she had met. It had been a while since she had felt this excited about classes. After the constant feeling of harassment in her old school, it felt good.

Upon arrival, a couple hours later, the usual view of the shipyard and the strange building that had once filled her with doubts and apprehension, now filled her with happiness and pride. Although her powers made her worried about hurting others, there was no doubt AEGIS was the best thing that had happened to her so far. She hadn't felt misplaced in there, quite the contrary, she had felt accepted and part of something!

Cecilia walked inside the building and greeted the lady in the reception with a happy mood, before stopping when she caught sight of the large corridor that awaited her, followed by the bell that announced the start of classes:

"You know what, I guess I'll just wait for people by the entrance...Even if I'm late.", she told herself, while remembering being lost in what seemed like a maze of doors and corridors... She definitely didn't want to pass through it all over again.

"Until I'm 100% sure about the map of this place, I'm not going anywhere by myself.", she decided, sitting on the floor to wait for anyone else to appear.

Why in the world, did she had to inherit her father's awful sense of direction?

"Please, please, please Tabitha, Pah-lease, All we are asking is for you to make a friend. A real friend, not a friend request, not a bully like that Paulsen kid, but an actual honest to god friend." Looking back over her shoulder, she sighs at the generally disheveled nature of her daughter. Coat tossed aside, over sized sweater hiding any signs of her blossoming womanhood, bangs over her eyes, hair greasy, and the hem of her baggy jeans ripped enough to slip under her generic gym shoes.

It was enough to sigh and shake her head but at least the Miss Baltimore Comptroller Crane wouldn't do it in front of her daughter. The BMW slid into the zoo turnaround with Tabby popping the door open. "Take your coat! Call me when you finish up okay?" The driver side window rolls down, Tabby leaning in and kissing her mom on the cheek.

"I love you mom."

Tabby turns, galloping off on her long legs into the zoo.

"And say no to drugs Tabby!!" The window rolls back up and the business of the day rolling into her overworked mind.

Flashing her ID, Tabitha Crane entered the zoo proper. As usual, her first few steps into the zoo resulted in an almost disney-esque spin on her heel as she took in the feeling. Even in the chill, the zoo was one of her favorite places to go. She could go in and read all the little signs, watch some cute animals and not have to interact outside of her terms.

So when she spotted the AEGIS group, a little bit of the joy of the day vanished. Fluttering away on the wind. Holding her breath and brushing her hair ever so slightly out of eyes, she heads on over to the guard. A little wave is all the greeting she gives, stepping right by to the back of the group.

To the certain lucky AEGIS staff there were always incoming signs of misery. The most prominent being the recent discovery in their inbox. "Saturday Staff meeting!" For once the accountants found a bit of spare cash in their coffers and if it was spent in house it would count as an end of year deduction. Oh joy. What it meant for the Staff meeting was an all inclusive breakfast at the IHOP attached to the mall. One could expect plenty of raspberry syrup stains on their paperwork but never look a gift horse in the mouth.

To our lovely students, this weekend was a blessing. Through whatever archaic system AEGIS used to regulate and manage their student body a lucky few have a free saturday at...

The most bitchingly awesome mall in Baltimore. Okay so just a mall in Baltimore but with over 200 individual retailers, JC Penny's, Carsons, Sears and a Macy's as anchors, the possibilities were endless. Or you can just mill about the food court with the built in IHOP, accomplishing nothing in particular. Whatever you wish to do, the day is yours. A day that for those outside the pancake filled shack, starts with a scream somewhere in the mall.

Facility 108 seemed like a school for the dead, nearly a half an hour before classes were suppose to start. At least, that was Izzy's opinion, when she had been standing in the bathroom of the main building, on the bottom floor.

Then with only five minutes until class, the main floor had been bustling with life. The altercation between her and the raven haired girl had not gone unnoticed.

"You better let that go, I think that hurts her," Mitch stopped and spoke out.

Izzy had been sort of grateful, someone spoke out on her behalf. That meant witnesses, which meant her corpse could not been hidden away without anyone noticing. Causiously she had been climbing the stairs, working to smooth things over when another student piped up,
"Listen, next time she bothers you, just let me know. I'll put that fire out real quick." Izzy had flashed a brief smirk at the comment, causing her sharpened canines to peek out for a moment. If she had not been so caught up in the moment, might have noticed the third, much older, on looker.

Once Alexis started leaving behind ashy imprints of her shoes on the stairs, Izzy's smile vanished with a harsh swallow. Between the curly black haired girl's comment, about putting out the fire and the now the impressions on the steps, it was clear. Izzy had almost picked a fight with a firebug. Way to go. That was a close one.

With the bell ringing, it was time to be in their designated class. Izzy's heart sank into her belly. Alexis was in the same class as her and already upset. Why did it have to be Collateral Damage? It was not like she meant to destroy things! Her father had insisted she was signed up for the stupid class. Izzy already knew she was going to regret it, but her father's words of disappointment still rang in her ears. So against her better judgment, Izzy disappeared into Collateral Damage classroom. This time, closing the door, much more softly than Alexis had, just moments before.

After making it into the classroom, Izzy quickly scurried to the back corner desk. It might have been a foolish section to some. Izzy liked it because, it gave her the best vantage point of the room and no one could sneak up behind her. Meanwhile, her eyes looked at everything in the room. Everything and everywhere, except for the one area of space in which Alexis, the fire bug, was now located.

Interesting? Yes. Fun? NO.WAY.

Kendrick wondered why the hell had he even opened his mouth. Oh, he should just have stayed quiet to avoid receiving such a 'polite' answer... But really, What he heck?, he hadn't even done anything!

The Director of the commonwealth, unpleasantly reminded Kendri of his parents. Welp, boring offices attract boring individuals. He should have expected that...

While Kendrick called himself an idiot mentally, the new kid asked what they were supposed to be doing. "Having our spirits crushed, by rude people seems to be on today's menu...", the boy thought to himself as a reply, one, that he didn't say for obvious reasons.

"Nice to meet you too. I'm Kendrick.", he replied in a stiff and dull manner.

Totally not his intention but, Oh God! He was starting to think violin classes, or death, would have been better than this little incursion by now... He just wanted to leave and cry to Ted or something, what a terrible day!

Of course, he wouldn't let anyone realise that, no no, he would keep up with the serious and unfazed expression through the whole thing, he HAD to. 'A proper Haywood gentleman wouldn't let other individuals realise when he's in a weak state', the words of his father echoed in his mind.

Kendrick held the backpack straps on his shoulder with might, it was one technique to vent his frustration without being noticed.

At least Kennith seemed to be enjoying himself...

And then, of course, Joel seemed to pour more gasoline in the fire, calling their group a "cheery band of misfits". Argh, no! Don't play along with her!!

"Someone please end my torment...", Kendrick begged in thoughts.

OOC: Sorry this is so long guys! I'm really excited!

Cherie-Amour lay awake as the sun came up. She was always the first one awake in the house and she didn't mind. The silence gave her time to think and to be on her phone. She thought about how lucky she was to go out to the mall later today. Everyone else has Saturday classes while you go to the mall, she thought. Poor souls.

The empath had only lived in Baltimore for three months after her parents decided it was better to go to that AEGIS facility and be around people more like her. Her aunt and uncle and their family took her in even though they did not think of supers highly. Of course, they made an exception for their niece; she didn't cause trouble like the others do. Their super was obedient and polite and got in nobody's way. None of the more mature members of the house spoke about Cherie's powers. Only the two little ones would pester her about what she can do. She liked performing her talents: it made her feel wanted.

So far, nothing in Baltimore was like things in Albuquerque. No green or red chile, no wide open space, and no consistent silence. There seemed to always be something going on, whether her cousins were talking or the neighbors outside were arguing. Luckily, she didn't mind background noise as much as she thought she would. Her room was quiet and that was good enough for her.

The growling of her stomach combined with her growing excitement motivated Cherie to get out of bed. She quickly cleaned herself up and changed for the weather. Donned in a black and gold hoodie, black jeans, and black and gold high tops, she hurried to the kitchen to see her aunt pouring orange juice.

"Aunt Helen, can you take me to the mall? The school is letting me have a day off today," she smiled at the tired person in front of her. "I just don't want to be stuck at home."

Helen's expression stayed the same.
"You can't get there yourself?"

"I've only been here for three months. I don't know how to get there. Can you please take me?"

"Ask Makayla to take you. She's going to the mall with her friends." With that, she left the kitchen.

Cherie stayed silent, but sighed internally. Makayla was the only cousin in the house that had friends that can drive, but Cherie doubted Makayla liked her. Her cousin and her friends was normal, unlike Cherie. It sucked because she really wanted to get to know her cousin. But she was not going to allow prejudice stop her from having fun. With her new found confidence, the empath walked out of the kitchen.

To her luck, Makayla was fully dressed sitting on the couch, possibly waiting for her friends to show up.
Now's your chance.

"Hey, can you take me to the mall? I have no school today and is there enough room for me in your friend's car?" A weak smile was on her face.

Makayla stared hard at her cousin. She even looked up and down. After a moment, she sighed and looked at her phone.
"We'll see."

Through Cherie's sight, a light red line outlined her older cousin's body.

Ten minutes passed and the doorbell rung. Makayla motioned for Cherie to get it, which she did after covering up her limiter. Three girls about Makayla's age entered the house. Cherie looked at her cousin expectantly and she smacked her lips in return.

"My cousin wants to come to the mall with us. Is there any room in your car?" Makayla didn't look up from her phone. The girl on the right looked at the empath. The light red line appeared around the girl as well, but she nodded. "Lucky there's only five of us."

The girl on the right chimed in.
"Maybe she can hold our stuff for us?" The other girls chuckled. Cherie's face was flushed with embarrassment, but at least she got a ride.

-timeskip-

One loud car ride later, the group arrived at the Owing Mills Mall. It was much larger than Cherie thought it was. There has to be over 100 stores in here! The parking lot was filled with cars and traffic, but parking was found eventually.

Walking into the mall was like visiting a new country to Cherie. She was fascinated with it all: the stores, the food court, and the atmosphere was breathtaking. She would have never stopped looking in awe at the establishments if Makayla didn't grab her arm.
"I'm responsible for you, so don't leave my sight without my permission. Alright?" She was not about to get in trouble for losing a 'little kid' in the mall.

Cherie nodded and said,
"OK. Where are we going first?" She stomach was growling louder now.

A smile spread across Makayla's face.
"We're going to IHOP." She pulled Cherie's arm in her direction and they began to walk.

Then a scream pierced Cherie's ear drums.

You wouldn't think a 'living singularity' could hide in plain sight, but you'd be wrong in that, more often than not. He couldn't disappear from view, but if he wasn't standing just where you'd expect to see somebody, and if he didn't move or speak, people's attention just seemed to slip right past him. Maybe attention was like light in that regard; it didn't just ping off of him like it did with normal people, but instead sort of shimmered and shimmied around him without quite touching him. At any rate, none of his students saw him standing by the top of the stairs. And he saw everything he needed to see about them. Everything he had missed in his first group, in yesterday's session. He saw the young girl's fearfulness, even as she covered it with bluster. He saw how hard it must be for her to trust others, and how worried she was to be in a place where looks might literally kill. The older girl, the tail puller, tugged at his heartstrings even more. She was bullying a child four years her junior, practically kicking a kitten, and yet his mind leapt beyond that obvious fact to the implication it made. Someone taught her that. It was written in her every movement; this was what she had been shaped into over many years. There was more to her than this surface cruelty. It was her merely her shield against being hurt, just as the younger girl's penchant for snappy comebacks was hers.

Then there was the last one. The hard case. The killer. That was what her file said. But all Aaron saw was more fear. It was in the slight shifting of her eyes. The appraising looks she gave the other two girls. Just a split second and then it was gone; she dismissed them both almost instantly as not threats, and thus beneath her notice. But to Aaron that was the key point, and the core of her: this girl looks for threats first in every new situation. A girl like that has seen things better not seen at such a young age. He was older than her when he had first come to that dark place, and time will only tell if he has come out the other side yet.

He waits to a count of thirty to let them get settled before he enters the room. He is no longer nervous to face them. This morning's dark mood has passed (though the nausea still lingered) and even without Eve's help, he is calm. He knows now what he needs to do.

His mistake yesterday had been a simple one: he had tried to run the room, to teach them, like some kind of wind up talking head. Talking has just never been in his wheelhouse. What he needs instead is to do what comes as naturally to him as breathing: listen. Sit in the midst of them and be open. Absorb everything and anything they offer. Let them talk. Reflect nothing. Take it all in.

He steps into the room, walks almost to the front, turns a desk around to face them, sits. He gives them a moment to adjust to his presence and then he begins:

We live in a complex world. School often oversimplifies it, sometimes to a ridiculous degree. It is our attempt to educate; we have to start somewhere. Here is where I would like to start today, with two deceptively simple questions: What makes a hero, a hero? What makes a villain, a villain? You may answer whichever question you like, but you must give me an answer to at least one of them before the end of the period. Do not rush. Take your time and think about what those words mean to you. Raise your hand when you feel you have something to say.”

He sits back then, and he waits.

Hmmm, I wonder if he is rushing towards his doom. This might be a very short lived character.

Gavin Dabbs

It was another beautiful, freezing cold day! Already late morning, Gavin had been out of the house since before the sun had risen. His mom, Sara had purchased a booth at some convention. Which convention did not matter much to Gavin. His Mom did so many of these things, they sort of all blended together.

Closing the clasp of a charm bracelet around the slender wrist of a middle-aged woman, he offered up a winning smile.
"This piece accentuates the delicate arch in your wrist," the words rolled off his tongue, while his finger tips drew out the arch. The woman blushed. "I'll take it! Such a charming boy, you must be so proud," she commented to his Mother, while they rang up the item. Another sale closed.

The traffic at the booth started to slow. The convention attendees were filing into their various lectures and workshops. It would be several hours before they had another rush. Seeing an opportunity, Gavin grabbed his portfolio bag. Unfurling his colored pencils and charcoal, he began to sketch. After a few minutes, he could feel his Mom's leering eyes over his shoulder.

"Need some help with something, Mom?"

"Oh no. It's just such a nice day out."She was used that overly sweet tone that ate at him. Gavin carefully closed back up his sketchbook and stuffed it back into his over-sized bag. Climbing out of the cheap folding chair, he hoisted the bag onto his shoulder. It did not need to be said, he already knew that his field of interest bothered both his Moms. Dreaming of designing suits for Supers,'just wasn't proper.' Still they did not have much traction on that argument, given his Grandmother's track record.

Gavin saw no point in upsetting his Mom while she was working.
"Hey Mom, I am going to head over to the mall for a bit."

"That sounds like a great idea, hun. Just be back before five! Keep your phone on. Make friends!" His Mom's enthusiasm was not lost on him. All the same, Gavin gave a her a smile and a wave before ducking out the double doors.

His glasses fogged up, almost immediately. Yup, it was fucking freezing. His deep blue denim jeans were not doing much for him. At least the black deep v necked sweater and violet button up shirt beneath, seemed to keep some of the warmth from being inside. All the same, Gavin kicked it in to high gear and made a point of walking quickly through the city streets. A few panhandlers and one 'End of the World' guy later, Gavin was ducking into Owing Mills Mall.

The Mall was fairly crowded, of course. It was Saturday morning and the weather was crap, so it was to be expected. After a large yawn escaped him, Gavin realized he had been up for hours and had nothing to fill him. Not feeling all that hungry, he settled on the idea of a nice latte. Just as he was attempting to track down, the Mall Map with the ridiculous, 'You Are Here' star, he stopped and looked around. People all seemed to be focused on something at the other end of the mall. It was too many people, for it just to be some stupid cart merchant trying to force unwanted lotion samples on someone. Nope.

Gavin's deep brown eyes grew wide with delight behind the frames of his glasses. Maybe it was a Super! A Super in need of a suit. Digging out one of his embossed business cards, Gavin started to weave his way through the crowd, working to come to the center of whatever everyone was staring at.

Jordan stared at the chaperon with an expression that not only showed disdain for her words, but was actively judging her choices in life at a near-cosmic level.

"And a pro-tip for you. BRICKS ARE HEAVY." One bit of obvious wisdom for another, after all.

Just as before, he looked down at the ground before muttering a "Thank you."

Looking around at the group around him, it was clear that not everyone had arrived.

"So apparently either our group is really small, or they're even worse at punctuality than this city is with mob violence."

Before taking a step in ANY direction, Jordan glared down at the sidewalk, making sure he wasn't going to fall again. HE WASN'T GOING TO BE VICTIM TO A THIRD CATASTROPHE, DAMMIT.

With a sigh of relief, he finally took a step forward, content that nothing more was out to get him now...At least not yet. Everything always had this way of being a prick towards him.

Those birds overhead for starters. He was just WAITING for them to practice their aim.

He supposed it was a good thing his outer coat was white...

Hunter RED Ward

Location: Baltimore Mall.

Nearby: As of yet, no one.

Disposition: Someone better be dying.

No, no. That's hardly fitting. Sure! That would work if I wanted to make it seem like I never wanted to SEE her again. OH RIGHT. SEND THAT BECAUSE IT MAKES THE RIGHT MESSAGE. TOTALLY.

Using the time he had before the meetup at the IHOP for the school faculty, Red had been going through the majority of the shopping outlets trying to find.....Something....

As to what it was, no one could safely say. And many people had already come to the sound conclusion assuming anything with Hunter was a death wish.

"Excuse me, Sir! Do you need a hand finding anything today?" an employee from...Whatever the fuck this wannabe Dillards had approached Red, her demeanor being either that creepy sense of genuine giddiness, or that well-practiced, soul-crushing imitation of what their hopes and dreams sounded like when they died.

"I...Sincerely doubt you can help me, Ma'am." Hunter glanced at her for a moment. Perhaps she'd take the hint he didn't want someone distracting him. Then again, perhaps one day he'd finally get that apology he's been owed for twenty-plus years. Spoiler alert, neither are coming today!"

"Are you shopping for yourself or someone else, sir?" Clearly they were not listening to what he said. That, or they were trying to force a sale here.

"Ma'am, I am currently sitting in a section of the store devoted to cute, fluffy, and childish items. You think I'm here for yourself, you need to get your head checked."

"We make no assumptions here, sir. Are you looking for anything in particular?"

Yeah, this was going to be a long day, he could tell.

"I am still coming up with ideas, so I have not reached that far in the thought process yet, Ma'am. Now if you would be so kind as to let me-"

"If you're looking for something for yourself, I would personally recommend-"

YOU DENSE MOTHERFUCKER

Red then turned to the woman, trying his best not to show his annoyance towards her at the moment.

"Ma'am? I am hardly in the mood for your little blind tennis antics at the moment. Now we can end this discussion on a civil note right here, or if you want to press the issue, we can certainly find out how much force is needed for a human to fly straight through the windows. Got it?"

And with that, he was finally left alone to his own thoughts. Nice, soothing, serene-

A scream from across the mall.

"MOTHERFUCKER."

Alexis marched into the classroom herself in the first row, second-closest to the end of the room. She dropped her backpack and allowed it to rest against the desk leg, leaning forward into her seat and gripping the end of the table, as some sort of anchor to stabilize her anger.

"Gimme a break!" Alexis snapped her head towards the voice, and without so much as blinking, had already planned her threat. "If I wasn't wearing this damn limiter, you'd be up in flames right now. But there are plenty of ways to do that without superpowers, so shut the fuck up." Did she care that the woman was older, probably stronger, and a lot scarier? Not one bit. The edge of the desk Alexis had gripped was now blackened and charred, her anger finding some sort of way to bleed through her powers, even with the limiter active.

Izzy cautiously entered the room, and Alexis only gave her a quick sideways glance as the catgirl tiptoed to the back of the class. Instead, her attention fell to the teacher who finally entered the room.

So it was one of those teachers. One who thought it their sole job to shape the next generation with philosophical questions and a "unique approach". God, couldn't the guy just at least introduce himself? However, Alexis did find herself pondering over his prompt before just a moment, before the words spilled out of her mouth, breaking the silence their teacher had left.

"Bullshit."

She had to let those words sink in herself before she moved to explain them.
"There's no such thing as heroes and there's no such thing as villains. Too many variables, too many opinions, and definetly too many wannabes and psychos. Each word has different definitions for every person." Alexis leaned back in her chair, letting go of the edge of the now charred table. She frowned at the damage she'd done. "What's that even got to do with collateral damage, anyhow?" She said, tone becoming slightly more pointed once more.

Katherine Huang

Maybe if we stick a police siren atop of our car, we would go faster?” Katherine paused to watch her chaffeur’s reaction. Though he said nothing, she saw his shoulders tense at the notion, a natural response to which she laughed at. “冷静下来,我在跟你开玩笑。” She chortled and clapped one hand on his shoulder, though she quickly retracted that hand when she realised that it only made him tense up more. She turned her attention without, and found her eyes drawn to the sky. For some reason or another, there seemed to be a flock of birds that circled around a singular location. It didn’t seem as if they were heading any where soon, and that was what troubled her. The only birds she knew that circled around like that were vultures. Then again, her knowledge of birds were all gleaned from watching reruns of National Geographic that she occasionally switched her TV on to. So what the hell did she know?

Even curiouser was how it seemed to her that, if she wasn’t mistaken, their location was just above where she was headed. She wasn’t exactly a genius in figuring out geographical locations, but if her chauffeur’s GPS’ insistence that he turn right at the next junction every five seconds was on point, then her guess was probably right on the money. Probably. She closed her eyes and rubbed her temples. Surely, surely surely surely, this was just some coincidence. Not on her first day on the job in Facility 108. If her father knew, there would be more talk about dishonor on the family and the family’s cow and all that hat. And she didn’t want that.

Okay, okay, think positive, Katherine Huang. Who knows what the 美国人 do here in their free time. Messing about with birds might be just another performance, huh?”

Her chauffeur grunted, as if he wasn’t convinced at her attempt to alleviate her worries. She didn’t blame him. She wasn’t convinced by her own words either. She sighed and tapped a manicured nail on the arm-rest, as the traffic continued to move at a snail’s pace.

If one were paying attention, they would have noticed that the Chinese lady, seemingly unperturbed by the cold winds given her fashion choice, running up to them was also having a severe lack of shoes. They would also have noticed a black limousine that stood out from the rest of the family sedans that were parked around the lot speeding away to places unknown. Her steps surefooted, despite the sleets of ice that covered the ground here and there, Katherine Huang made her way to the group of youths gathered at the entrance of the zoo. She glanced up into the skies, and sure enough, those dark shapes that were birds still circled above. How very curious. She’d have to deal with that matter later. Students and lessons first, investigations later! She put onthe widest smile she could manage, and strode towards her quarries.

“你们早!Good morning!” She gave a cheery salute to the students. “ I expect you lot are with Facility 108? It’s great to finally meet you! I’m Katherine Huang, your Community Service teacher-in-charge! Sorry I was late, the traffic was horrible, and my chauffeur wouldn’t let me use a police siren.” She meant it as a joke, clearly, but at the same time, she honestly wondered if that siren they kept in the dashboard would have gotten her here at least ten minutes earlier. She shook her head, breaking out of her own reverie. “Well then, let’s see if my mind is as sharp as I hope it is, huh?”

She directed her finger energetically towards the lot gathered before they had a chance to respond, first to the lad with the shock of white hair (
@Zahzi) “Jordan Brahn, Rank C!”

Then to his direct foil, a sad looking boy with the pitch black hair (
@St Indigo). “Kyle Keysor, Rank A!”

Onwards to the girl with what seemed like a clumsy pair of futuristic goggles strapped on her face. (
@King Hink)“Victoria Beckett, Rank C! I think.”

Her finger found itself directed towards another girl that towered over her. Katherine paused, as if to make a comment on her height, then wisely thought against it. The distraction, however, was enough to knock her off her momentum. (
@Teh Frixz) “Tabitha Crane, Rank uh...B?”

Then the redheaded lady (
@Suzuki Mine), whom, at this point, she just dropped her hand altogether and shrugged. “Uhm. You’re one of the staff, right? Lady Vengeance, or something like that? 对不起, I, ah, forgot your name.” To be more exact, she couldn’t recall reading her name at all. It wasn’t because her name wasn’t on the list, it was more of because it was too hard to enunciate it. She skipped over it and plumb forgot about it come the next morn.

“I-in any case, we’re still short a few heads, right?”

'Not really'? An ambiguous wording that Mary was very familiar with. So, either the Director was being honest and there's no special special event, or the event is not for public. Being a complete optimist she was, of course Mary believed it's the latter.

But it's not like classified activity was an unusual thing. She decided to shrug it off.

Mary heard someone from behind introduce himself as Kennith.
Huh, she looked over her shoulder. She had never seen that boy before. Does that mean he is...new? A bright smile appeared on her face. It might look friendly, but for the one that knows Mary, a too bright smile means problem. "Nice to meet you too, Kennith," She replied, "I'm Marianne, but you can call me Mary." If she was not mistaken, that boy next to the wall was also new. Although, judging from his pulled up do-not-disturb-me hoodie, he wouldn't introduce himself soon.

Anyway, so far the Director didn't look too scary. A bit intimidating alright, but not to the mind-numbing extent.
For now. Though she was blunt enough to straight up refute Kendrick's assumption, that poor boy. At least now they knew the Director wouldn't be the one to guide them for the next few hours.

That's...too bad actually. She began to think this weekend visit would be an exciting one.

"Ah, I see..." Pffft, cheery band of misfits. She spoke to the Director after Joel. "Then please don't let our presence interfere with your work. Although we are sure a tour with you would be even more interesting." She paused and glanced at her team. "Especially since some of us have never been here before. Kennith is new, and-" Mary looked around, "-so does our friend back there." She openly gestured at Chris back in the room, directing the attention toward him.

Leave it to Mary to make the one that want to be left alone stand out.

Danny was in a worse mood than he had been this entire morning. The commute was, as expected, nothing but infuriating. Even this early in the morning on the weekend, people were out and about, trying to get into Baltimore to catch the tail-end of the January sales. This meant that his first bus, which should have breezed to the change over stop had crawled along at walking pace the minute it hit the main road downtown. No amount of asking or swearing had made the driver open the door so Danny could go on on foot, but a few solid kicks aimed at the plexiglass panels in the door changed his mind and Danny was free to run, jog and walk to his next stop. Not that that ended up any easier. Slush and ice covered the sidewalk and he often had to haul up short as he felt his worn-down sneakers losing traction on the slick surface underfoot. Crosswalks were clogged with traffic, people getting caught in jams and unable to clear them when the lights changed. After one crosswalk, Danny took to clambering across hood and trunk lids to continue his journey.

When he finally got to his next bus location, it became obvious that his last driver had radioed ahead as the next guy refused to let him on. One broken wing mirror and turn indicator later and Danny was running, jogging, walking and slipping along the cold and icy sidewalks again. Nearly an hour and a half it took to travel that last stretch and, by the time he saw the old simulated granite entrance sign, he was wheezing like an 80-year old asthmatic, clutching his aching sides and limping like a gunshot victim. He paused for breath and as he threw back his head to haul in great gulps of frosty air, he noticed the birds circling the zoo. The fuck? Is that normal? He dismissed further speculation as quickly as he'd observed the birds. Maybe they were feeding the animals and the birds were looking for a free meal, what-the-fuck-ever. He had jogged through the entrance and dodged around the few vehicles parked in the main lot, only to be caught off guard by the Asian in the limo. Well, he wasn't rising to an argument and Danny was conscious that he was late, so with a last punch of the hood and a threatening scowl, he continued heading to the place he was supposed to be meeting the other freaks.

Drawing closer, he recognised one of the adults instantly. Oh, fuck me, it's Koko the Klown. Dressed up like an upmarket hooker, the type that wore pants and did their business in hotel rooms rather than the back seat of her customer's beat-up Oldsmobile. A smattering of young freaks from the facility, he'd probably remember their names if he tried, but right now he couldn't give fewer fucks to try. And then there was the Asian chick. Dressed for Florida in July, not Baltimore in January, she didn't even have shoes. Jesus, way to make us stand out as freaks even more. As he approached, he heard the hubbub of conversation and stopped jogging to saunter towards the group. He pulled his hood up and thrust his hands into his pockets, feeling the small change and crisp notes of his brother's forty bucks. On the upside, the run had saved him a bus ticket, so he'd possibly have enough to afford something to eat for lunch and dinner. Perhaps the day wasn't so bad, after all.

"'Sup, freaks?", he called as he drew closer, really hoping that this 'community service' BS took place indoors. His running heat was draining away through his insufficiently insulated clothes and he wanted to get the backpack full of his possessions back to the youth hostel before they gave his room to someone else.

The response was immediate, and fiery. She lit up the room with her explosive, self contradictory answer, and Aaron smiled, basking in the glow of her anger and derision. No such thing, but different definitions for every person. An excellent start, absolutely perfect. She even threw in a personal jibe, attacking him in his most obvious weak spot, his teaching. He turned her way, let the question hang in the air for a few beats, nodded appreciatively and then shifted back slightly to focus on his other two students.

OOC: And now it is I who have the permission!

After a long moment of mutual staring, Lucas decided he had better get out of his bed and on with his day. As this thought crossed his mind, another wormed its way in on the heels of the first. This bed... his bed? This was his childhood bed... and this was his childhood room? He could still feel Mr. McNabb's eyes on him as his thoughts whirled around these new facts. How in the hell did he get here from the clinic? What in GOD'S name did Zdunowski drug him with exactly? And as his eyes darted nervously to Mr. McNabb's slightly twitchy overwide grin he had to wonder: did she dose him up too?

Under his breath he muttered “Sac a papier” as he kicked off the blankets. Might as well play along. His mind whirled with a blizzard of disconnected facts and presumptions as he put on his stolen sweatpants, socks, and sneakers. First assumption: If McNabb was going to cook and eat him or something he'd already be dead. Second assumption: there is some perfectly logical reason that a teacher has taken him to his dead mother's abandoned house. Disconnected fact: he knows about Justice; he said he is here to escort him to impound and offered sympathy Disconnected fact number two: his live in student arrangement is not official and wouldn't be in Aegis records... As he was tying the sneakers, it all came together.

Mr. McNabb? Do you happen to know what my official address is in AEGIS's files?”

After a slight pause, his head nodded, and the grin broadened fractionally. After a beat,

Is it this house?”

Again the pause, the nod, and another ratchet of grin.

Can you keep a secret Mr. McNabb?”

Several rapid nods that he seems to have trouble arresting.

“I don't live here. My mother died going on three years ago now. The house is abandoned, as I am sure you noticed.”

Several expressions warred for control of Mr. McNabbs face; first the grin broadened still further, beyond what seemed strictly humanly possible, then a violent twitching followed by nodding and a painfully twisted frown. A single tear squirted from his left eye and rolled down his cheek. For a moment the grin returned, then twisted back into a frown.

Are you alright sir?”

More nods. Another tear.

If you tell anybody, they'll have to put me into foster care, which is not likely to be as good as the arrangements I have worked out for myself. I just need another four months ok? After that I will be 18. Can we keep this between us?”

The grin surged back along with another rapid series of nods.

Lucas reflected that there was clearly something he was missing, but at least he knew why McNabb had brought him here of all places to sleep.

Glancing at his phone, he was startled to see how late it was. Time to rush if they were going to get to the Zoo by ten. He bounded down the stairs two at a time, called over his shoulder for Mr McNabb to please grab his phone since he couldn't touch it without wrecking it.

He paused at the foot of the stairs, surveyed the wreckage of the dining kitchen area. A wave of loneliness washed over him, and he let it, stopping just short of tears. This place was not home any more. Home was a thing he carried with him now. Mom was gone. Dad was long gone. This was just a building, settling into the earth. His breath came thick and husky for a bit, but then he swallowed and it was gone.

Mr. McNabb came down the stairs carefully, like the old man that he was, and Lucas felt bad for not having offered to help him down the stairs. He assuaged his conscience by holding the door for him and offering to drive. The expression that crossed the teacher's face might have been relief, but was a little hard to read. Handing him the keys though seemed pretty unambiguous, so Luc took them. And then he slumped in dismay. A beautiful, top of the line, Tesla. No way could he drive that. It's a wonder it got him here at all!

Hey, um... Mr. McNabb? How did you get here in that, with me in it? Electric cars don't work around me...”

Perhaps it was a twitch, but it looked an awful lot like a wink, as he climbed into the passenger side.

Fixed it. Machines like us. ME! Singular. Me.”

Well they sure don't like me, so that makes one of us, I guess.”

It started on the first try though, and in fact, handled like a dream. They got across the city in record time; all the stoplights seemed to be in their favor. The impound yard visit went surprisingly smoothly. The computer showed no fine for some reason, and they were in and out in less than five minutes. And Mr. McNabb never stopped grinning the whole time. To tell the truth, Lucas was a little reluctant to let the Tesla go, but once he got behind the wheel of Justice, he remembered how much she meant to him in an instant. Even with her noxious emissions and weak accelerating, she was his. And somehow or other the lights were still with them, and they pulled into the zoo parking lot at two minutes til ten. Even keeping pace with the old man's stiff legged gate, they still joined the group before the appointed hour. Curse broken! On time today.

Just another crappy winters day in Baltimore, things would be better if she had the morning off before work, but no, instead Viola had to attend "school". For someone her age to attend school, it felt out of place. Then again she had never considered training for a blue badge until recently. There was only so long you could design prosthetics before it got boring, that wasn't her only reason... but that was a story for another day.

Walking on slushy frozen ground wasn't the best when you had to deal with thinking of every step. Normal ground was fine, shifting traction made things a lot more difficult though. Given this, Viola was slightly late. An ever so slight whir sounded from her joints with each step she took through the doors of the facility as the noise from outside dissipated and the silence of the empty lobby took hold, she was late enough for the students to all be in class already? Surely not. Sweeping some of her red hair out from behind her glasses, Viola made her way towards her class.

Yep, late. She could hear Mr Mallory monologuing through the door already. Waiting till he had finished, Viola chose a quiet few seconds to show herself in, and took the opportunity to try and answer his problem while she was at it. Pushing the door with her mechanics covered limbs, Viola gave Mr Mallory a nod.

"Sorry for the tardiness, walking is not easy in this weather." She explained, before walking towards a free desk in the middle of the room.

"And as for your dilemma... A hero works to help those who cannot help themselves, a villain only works to further their own gain." she explained, sitting down and taking off her coat.

there was a few new faces in the room, and a few noted regular ones, Alexis, Ioana, and herself all in one room? This didn't seem like the best group coordination... In saying that, collateral damage training was not going to go amiss with them. Giving Ioana a nod, acknowledging her presence, and merely giving Alexis an uninterested gaze, Viola settled down for the lesson, whatever it was going to be this day.
