I have a cleric idea that I've tried to bring into other games that have fizzled. He is the ugliest man you can imagine, abandoned by his parents at an early age because they couldn't stand the sight of their ugly baby. As an infant, they abandoned him on the steps of a temple of Sune, goddess of Love and Beauty, thinking he was cursed for some reason.

  He has a face that can curdle milk and make babies cry. As an infant, the poor baby was left by his parents on the steps of the temple of Sune, the Goddess of Love and Beauty, thinking that if there was anyone that could deal with such an ugly child that was obviously cursed to be so ugly, it was the monks of the temple. They were shocked at the sight of the ugly child, and were about to turn him away to the local orphanage, but one of the monks named Dennis decided that even this child has some beauty within him, and he decided to take the care of the child himself.
  
  Naming the boy Gurwin, he was raised in the temple by Dennis, treating him as if he were his own son. The other children in the town that the temple was in never called the ugly kid Gurwin, instead of nicknaming him Gurk the Gross.
  
  Once Gurwin was a full-fledged monk in the temple, he was kneeling in prayer when he saw a vision of his Goddess. She stood over the kneeling man and reached her hand out to touch his cheek. "Oh, my Gurwin, my ugly, beautiful Gurwin. I have a special task for you. Go forth from these walls into the world outside. Show them the beauty in your soul by showing them that the love of Sune can help bring peace to them and heal their wounds. Go, my child, and be rewarded with my blessing." Then, the divine spirit faded away, leaving Gurwin alone once more in his room.
  
  Going to see Dennis, he told him what he saw and what Sune told him. With a wide smile, his father embraces his adoptive son. "I am so proud of you! Before you go, there are a few things that I wish to give you. While Sune will protect your spirit, I have an old suit of armor to help protect your body. Along with a shield and mace to strike down the wicked, it will help keep you safe in the cruel world. Bring them the love of Sune, my son."

Have a build and basic story I wanted to run by before putting in the time to finish it up.
Basics: A Kender Paladin preparing to take the Oath of the Ancients. An encounter from her past will lead her to form an eldritch pact to be a better shield for the innocent. She'll be a "sword" and board (either starting out with a flail or yklwa for some spear style action) paladin, using her razor sharp tongue to goad enemies to attack her while using the power of her Oath to bolster her allies.
