Christian Parks || 16 || Initiate || Dauntlessborn

Chris felt at home speaking with Fable. She was so lovely, so warm and friendly that he always felt at ease around her, like he had no need to worry or wary of what he did or said or felt. From what he'd gotten to know about her, she was a victim of her own things in her past, but had grown past that and become someone stronger than who she was before. Christian was inspired by this, and he desired to be as strong as her. As she spoke up about her simulation he noted how she avoided mentioning what happened, and he decided not to pry, some simulations were very personal, and he had no desire to ask if it was something so personal that she avoided talking about it. He once had had a simulation where he had killed Blair, and he chose not to talk about it much because it had been so painful to experience, he had thought it was real.... Then he did end up hurting her, and had to rip himself away from her out of fear of hurting her more, or getting her killed somehow. Thinking of Blair darkened Christian's thoughts for a moment, after he had hurt her he had stayed at home, Vex had introduced him to Dr Munro, and somehow his house arrest was lifted, and life was back to normal, but he had avoided Blair for the next week, before eventually breaking up with her. He couldn't be a good boyfriend to her yet, and he wanted to work his way back to that position, but to leave her in that unknown status had been cruel, so he had corrected it, freeing her. How she had taken it he couldn't tell, she had left, and since then he hadn't seen her, and after talking to Briony today... it sounded like nobody had seen her. That was worrying. It wasn't something he could do anything about. As much as he wanted to know where she was, he would let her have her space. He would look out for her, and he would look for her, but if it was a personal choice then he would respect it. He had hurt her. She probably couldn't forgive him for that. She shouldn't have to. He knew the type of person she was, she would do it because that's what Blair did. But he didn't deserve that forgiveness until he had become a perfectly better man. Part of that was becoming his own person, which was why he stopped using the dulled drugs that his family gave him, part of it was managing his anger problems, which he was doing with Dr Munro's training, and he knew it was working because he couldn't remember the last time he was seriously angry after hurting Blair. If it was truly a whole week since he had been that angry? Then that was huge improvement. He still had to take lull, but he didn't need it as much now, because he was learning how to control himself. All of this put together meant that he could be a better person. Maybe Blair would take him back one day, maybe she wouldn't. But he'd be more comfortable knowing he was a better man.

"I would love smoothies." He said with a soft smile, his blue eyes gazing into her mismatched ones with happiness. They were an interesting pair. Chris did tower over Fable, he was over a foot taller than her, but Fable had grown so much that it hardly showed, she looked at him straightly, no cowering or nervousness, although occasionally a small blush. Her fiery red hair was like a sunset, and Christian's hair was like the sun. Her eyes were such distinct colours, so intoxicating that Christian could have stared into them silently for a while. His eyes were blue, like one of hers, but hers was an icy blue, so stark and sharp, his was so stormy that sometimes people described them as grey, or from far away could not be noticeable as any colour. He had no problems with this, he was vanilla to his core, so simple and straightforward and plain. He liked things that way, but he also liked things like Fable, so beautifully different, so wonderfully strange. There was a moment where the two of them did not move, awkward silence may have been what they were experiencing but Christian's brain was too set on hyper analysing Fable's hair and eyes that he didn't notice the awkward silence. At some point however they did eventually walk off, and Christian happily strode alongside Fable, hands in his hoodie pockets as he thought about how he was enjoying hanging out with people. When he was dating Indira he didn't hang out with anyone except her and Jackson, she had fed him his pills so much to make him exactly what she wanted him to be. Blair hadn't been like that, she had been gentle and loving, she had helped him see he could be a good person without those pills... and what did he do? He hurt her. A bubble of anger at himself came up within him, and then another one for Beckham, and for Ajax most of all. That stupid brother of hers had incited him specifically to cause a fight, he had harassed Blair and desired to hurt her. Christian had just wanted to protect her, to keep her safe. If Ajax hadn't fought with him... or if Beckham hadn't run in... or if Blair herself hadn't run in. He slowly breathed out his mouth as he rolled his shoulders uncomfortably, a trick that Vex and Dr Munro had taught him. Fable must have noticed, because she asked if he was okay. "Yeah, sorry I was thinking about last week, and everything that happened with Blair. Do you think I did the right thing? Breaking up with her?" He asked, head tilting and eyes meeting hers, although Fable quickly looked away as she thought about it and responded.

Soon enough they were at the place that Fable had talked about buying smoothies from. Christian looked at it, it was colourful and pretty, so many pastel colours that reminded him of his mother. The smells were delicious, and he felt his mouth water at the idea of having some of them. He stood there reading the sign for a while. "This is cool, you can get ones for health reasons, ones just for flavour, and a mix of both." He commented, looking at all the drinks. "I bet Aubrey would love these." He said with a laugh, knowing that she was always into good tasting food, and loved when it was also healthy. Christian had never really had strong preferences for food, he'd always been quite happy with whatever he was served or given, but he was up for trying something new. "You choose my drink, I have no idea what I want and they all sound delicious." He said, finally admitting defeat and pleading Fable to pick for him. "I'll pay for us both." He said, touching her arm for a second as he reached into his pocket for his wallet. He never let his friends pay for things, not because he thought they couldn't, but he knew he had more than enough money to spare, and he didn't like the idea of them using money they earned, or money their parents earned, when he had so much. As Fable ordered the two drinks and Christian payed for it, he stepped back with Fable where they waited for their drinks. It didn't take long thankfully, and the two of them had the drinks in hand and were happily walking out of the shop with them. Christian took a long drink of his smoothie and his eyes lit up. "This is really good! Thanks." He said, while Fable warned him not to drink too quickly or he'd give himself a brain freeze. He nodded, slowing down. When Fable asked where they should go, or what they should do, Christian didn't know. He wasn't usually the initiatior of activities or dates, usually he just went to them if he was invited. He wasn't good at thinking of things to do with people. "Uhh...' He said aloud, trying to think of what they could do. "We could go sit at the chasm, that can be a cool place." He said with a shrug, almost as if he didn't think so. But Fable nodded, and the two of them set off towards the chasm, sipping at their smoothies and talking softly. It didn't take them long to get there, and the sound of the roaring water was loud, but not too loud to speak or listen. There were people around, but not so many of them were hanging out by the chasm itself, most were just on the phone or passing through this area. Christian walked up to the edge, in this spot it didn't have a barrier, probably because Dauntless liked to "live on the edge" and didn't need one. He sat down, patting the spot next to him for Fable to sit at. Thankfully, although there was no barried, this spot wasn't directly over the chasm, and their legs rested on what could be perceived as a very small platform of rock. If they were pushed or slipped, they would be very unlikely to fall in. Christian finished his drink and placed it on the ground next to him. "Did you always know you wanted to come to Dauntless? You seem very at home here." He asked.

Phillip Parks || 19 || Soldier/Trainer || Dauntlessborn

Phillip made sure to wave goodbye to Bloom before he headed off. He wanted to catch up with Briony and didn't want to have her waiting too long. He'd made sure to check all the rooms were cleaned and set down properly, even though he did think it was ridiculous that you had to do that every day. He may have skipped a few steps in his rush and he would explain that to Charlie and Bloom later if he needed to, but he was certain that it would be okay. He also knew that he could flash either of those two girls a gorgeous wide toothed smile and they would let him off with a warning. As he walked to where he assumed Briony had gone, he could hear Honey's feet pattering next to him, in rhythm with his own steps and hugging so close he could feel the warmth from her body. He wished Briony had not had a fear of dogs, he had always gotten along well with her, and when she'd made her advances towards him he hadn't hesitated at all to get in a relationship, or a fling, with her. She was hot, she was fun, she was funny, she was witty and brave and courageous and like the sun. Much like Aubrey and Randi. They had made a reasonably good match, but Phillip had found it hard to commit to calling it a relationship, or calling Briony his girlfriend, in fact he wasn't sure he ever had called her that; Briony on the other hand had other problems she was struggling with, and having Honey around was just too hard. Phillip couldn't get rid of Honey, and she couldn't handle always being around Honey. It was a fair reason to call it off, and there were other reasons that compiled on top of that. However, their friendship had not disappeared and now he considered her a close friend. He had always hated when people said you couldn't remain friends with your exes, he wanted to remain friends with everyone. As he finally got to the outside area that Briony had walked to, he quietly commanded Honey to sit and wait inside the compound so that she didn't go and frighten Briony, and so she didn't give away that they were here yet. As she began to speak, having heard him already, he didn't let that phase him as he continued walking, and as she tried to get up he reached his firm hands up and gripped her waist, spinning her around and bringing her down from her perch with ease. The smile and giggle this brought on was contagious and Phillip himself laughed loudly. Briony was a well toned girl, but so was Phillip, and he had been training longer than her, so it was not a hard feat to do that. There was no awkward blush or freezing up with Briony, she appreciated the gesture and asked him what it was for.

"Well let's just say I am very proud that you won your simulation. It wasn't easy." He said, nodding his head at her in pride for her accomplishments. Briony beamed and Phillip mirrored it, happy that she was happy. Briony saw that Honey was sitting at the door politely, having not moved since Phillip commanded that of her, and was wagging her tail. She then mentioned giving stuff to Chris for Honey. "Sure, that would be awesome. Honey will be so happy to get more treats. Honestly, with you and Bloom spoiling her so much I'm afraid she's going to turn into a snotty little princess just like you." He teased, immediately dodging the array of fake punches that Briony set towards him for that comment. "Your highness please, I'm just yer humble servant." He mocked lovingly, bowing himself low and making a loud "oof" sound when Briony gently and playfully walloped his head. He pulled his head up and winked at her. She began to comment about what people might say if they saw them together. "Ahh, let them talk. Plus, I doubt anyone even realizes I'm an instructor yet, Ghost's the one who better watch out, he can do what he likes but people will still assume he's an instructor." He laughed as he put an arm around Briony. "Doesn't help that he hung round all training today, gives off the vibe he still works there. Not that I'm complaining. " He laughed. Seeing that Briony looked a tad uncomfortable, Phillip wasn't sure if it was the topic or the physical touch, so he backed up a bit, casually, and dropped the topic. If Briony wanted to bring something up with him he knew she would, she wasn't shy in that way. "Well let's get cracking. You wanted to blow off some steam? I know just the place. I hope you can handle a bit of a hike and chill." He said. Briony's eyes flashed with excitement, and Phillip was sure she already knew what he was referring to. The two set off pretty quickly, making only a short detour to grab food. "Burritos?" Phillip asked as they passed a mexican foodplace, and the two quickly grabbed a burrito and ate it on their way. Honey was following them, keeping on Phillip's right side (while Briony was on the left) and keeping a respectable distance from her, although whined every now and then because all she wanted to do was get a cuddle. But Honey had been trained to wait for people to give her signs to show she could go to them. With Bloom and Phillip it was as easy as existing. With Chris all he had to do was call her name or pat his leg, Aubrey always crouched low, and Charlie would always bend down. Honey waited for these signs most of the time, although she wasn't perfect because she was still just a dog. With Briony she had learned she had to let Briony approach her, which was the hardest thing for Honey to do. But she was doing it.

Heading just outside of Dauntless area and in the direction of Amity but not quite going that far, they found the little trail that sort of happened randomly. It suddenly went from Dauntless style streets and buildings and whatnot to a random creek, that turned into a river, and by that point it was a weird mix of buildings and overgrown bush. He could see Briony nodding as she realized where they were going. "Just like you said, one of our old haunts." He said with a grin. "Should we set a new record?" He asked, pulling out his phone and popping the timer app open. When Briony nodded, tying her hair tighter and making sure her shoes were on right, he began to count. "Three, two, one.... go!" He said as they both ran towards a fence line, leaping over it with easy bounds they raced through what seemed to be a full bush but actually it had a space perfect for them in the middle of it. Heavy breathing and sweat began to happen as Phillip and Briony ran down a half-made track, scrambling up banks, climbing trees, sliding down slips, walking over logs, and finally with a burst they came out from the path at what seemed a random point, and were standing at the bottom of a waterfall. It wasn't a particularly large waterfall, but nevertheless it was a nice sized waterfall that descended into a decent sized pond. Phillip quickly stopped the timer and as they caught their breath, Honey having laid down in the grass panting heavily, he tried to speak to Briony but then couldn't through his heavy breathing, so he just showed her the time. After the heavy breathing subsided he finally spoke. "I think that's a new record, we should do this after fear sims more often...' He said, stopping mid sentence for a heavy breath. Wiping sweat off of his forehead he looked over at Briony. "Did that help you run off steam?" He asked, eyebrow raising as he listened to the fall of the waterfall. She nodded, laughing at him. "Now, it wouldn't be the same if we didn't go for a dip, and a jump." He said. Briony laughed again, saying that she hadn't brought her togs. "When did that ever stop us? First to the top gets to buy ice cream." He said, beginning to rip off his shirts and pants. He knew that Briony would not be embarrassed to see him in his underwear, he always wore boxers anyway. Whether or not Briony decided to join him, he began to run for the small cliffside, and began to clamber up the walls, using holds in the cliff itself, tree branches, and other things to help him get up. He hoped Briony was following him, they always used to climb up here and then run off together and jump into the pool. It wouldn't be the same otherwise. As he finally clambered to the top he looked to see if Briony had beaten him, or even come at all. Since there was plenty of space for her to climb where he couldn't see.

Vex

Mood: Calculating

Location: Testing Center / Ice Cream Shop

Interactions: Mentions Ghost & Chris

Success. Getting Ghost to take her bait was easier than she had hoped it would be. Now more than ever she knew he would be keen to uncover whatever secrets she may be hiding which meant she would be able to gather more information. Along with Chris, Dr. Munro had expressed some interest in Ghost when she sent in her reports on the instructors. Unlike some of the others, Dr. Munro had encouraged her to use extermination as one of the last options for dealing with the young man. It seemed he and Bloom were at this point in time not for her to take part in disposing of if a sudden need arose. Vex wasn’t entirely sure what the good doctor had up his sleeve but if Munro desired to make Ghost his ally or toy Vex would not deny her masters in Erudite. It was simply her job to test the former instructor's abilities and this little tasty morsel of information she had let slip was the perfect bait to do so. Whiskey golden eyes watched as the bearded young man walked away, his steps eluding to his current feelings on the interaction the two of them had just shared. It was the stalk of a sly predator that felt threatened. Tilting her head slightly she examined the way he held his shoulders, the stiffness of his neck, the positioning of his hands as he walked. Poor little fox is too focused on the hound to realize he is running right into a snare. She thought to herself as she adjusted her jacket and began to make her own way out of the training center.

As she departed she took note of who seemed to be splitting off with who, wanting to keep an eye on the bonds being built between individuals. One sight that interested her was Chris and Fable. The redhead seemed to be engaged in a delightful conversation with Chris that made Vex begin to wonder if perhaps she would need to step in. After a heartbeat of thought Vex decided against it, wanting Chris to have an interaction that might further his belief that Dr. Munro’s treatments were working. A positive interaction with someone other than the doctor and herself would likely only strengthen the young man's beliefs in Dr. Munro’s treatments and have him rearing for more. Vex also took note that Ghost had returned to the monitor station and was in conversation with Vernal Bloom. A stab of envy shot through Vex like lightning as she caught the sight of Bloom giving him a pearly white smile that she seemed to always have painted upon her face. The envy was not for Ghost, however, instead, it was for the fact that she did not have the blessing of those in Erudite to kill Bloom herself. For some reason, Vex had been barred from being allowed to execute the insufferable brunette if she felt the need. This made Vex’s blood boil for a moment before a sudden chilling calm came over her and she was once again content to abide by whatever Dr. Munro and his associates deemed fit. If Bloom was not hers to kill, if she was important in some way, then Vex would not lay a finger on her no matter how beautiful she dreamed her screams might be.

Making her way out of the testing center entrance Vex turned a corner and began to make her way toward a small ice cream shop she had seen a few times but not entered yet. It seemed to be a mom and pops sort of joint with signs that claimed the ice cream was made fresh daily and in the back corner a vintage jukebox hummed out a tune. Walking up to the counter Vex put on a sweet smile that could easily rival Vernal Bloom’s and greeted the old man with tiny glassed and a fat nose that stood on the other side of the register. The name tag on his red and white apron read Pop Pop and she giggled with perfect practice as he told her people had been calling him that ever since he had been an initiate. The older man seemed absolutely enthralled by her and Vex knew he was putty in her hand as she spoke to him and sampled the ice cream which she had to admit was absolutely delightful. While this might all just be part of some act to seem like a normal initiate attempting to blow off steam and relax after a long day of testing Vex truly did enjoy bits and pieces of it. The old man seemed genuinely happy when she complemented the taste of his homemade salted caramel ice cream and gave her an extra scoop for free. Once she had paid the small amount she owed Vex made her way over to a tiny booth and began to devour her ice cream while checking through her heavily coded and protected messages that came across as completely normal but had hidden meanings that only she and members of Munro’s inner circle could decipher.

Ghost // Male // Age 18 // Officially Unemployed // Erudite to Dauntless

At Bloom’s stipulation, Ghost’s lips tilted into a roguish smile. “I’m here to learn from the best,” he replied smoothly, feeling rewarded by the twinkle that appeared in Bloom’s eyes, the effect of his flattery. “And fortunately for the both of us, I learn quickly.” Bloom’s smile was as sweet as the fruit of a papaya tree. Not laced with poison like Anika’s… or, as she was more commonly known, Vex. And not a tentative flicker like Charlie’s, a candle that would snuff out in a thin breeze. Rather, Bloom smiled with all of her face, dimples appearing in both cheeks, open and inviting, as if she weren’t afraid of offering her goodness to the world. It was the kind of smile that a lighter alternate version of Ghost might have worn, if he hadn’t grown into a proud, untouchable creature, angry at those who subverted justice and got away with it. But the fact of the matter was that he had watched both of his parents die and he’d been helpless to save them. Ghost had sworn that he would never be weak again—that he would never be a victim again—and there was always a price to strength.
In the wake of his last comment, a silence fell over the lobby, echoing off the tiled floors and dull plaster walls and cold stony-gray machinery. Ghost had never been good with silences; he felt obligated to fill them. He noted the way that the smile seemed to sag from Bloom’s face, the purple rings hollowing out her eyes. She’d used the word unwind to describe her desired outcome from their rock-climbing excursion. Ghost cleared his throat. “If you don’t mind me asking,” he started, trying to be empathetic without prying, “how much of a toll did your first day as head instructor take on you?” He tried on a gentle smile. “Is your bartending job looking real good right now?”
Bloom’s lips parted to answer, but she never got the chance. There was a mechanical whine as the lobby’s double doors surged open. Cassidy pushed through them, and as Ghost turned to glance at her, her eyes seemed to fasten on him with an agenda. Like a model commanding a runway, she strutted toward Bloom and him, her chin tipped up and shoulders thrown back. No doubt she was making a show that she’d recovered from her breakdown earlier today. Dammit, Ghost internally swore. For a reason unknown to him, he’d really wanted to hear Bloom’s answer, and not just out of politeness. Now that an initiate had stumbled onto the scene, he had a suspicion that Bloom’s response wouldn’t be as candid as if it were just the two of them in confidentiality, if she chose to answer at all now.
Ghost tipped his head as he studied Cassidy, but she didn’t falter for balance. Not even half an hour had elapsed since he’d escorted her out of her testing room, and he wondered if she was still intoxicated. If it were just common, lighter fare that she’d used, then probably the better part of the high would have faded by now, but that was assuming that she hadn’t smoked again since he’d last seen her. As Ghost suspected, Bloom dropped the thread of their conversation to inquire whether Cassidy was feeling better. For whatever reason, a seed of disappointment blossomed in his chest. But it was quickly chased out by confusion at the alien emotion, if that was even what it was. Ghost was no sentimental fool. Between one breath and the next, he’d recovered his composure, scowling a little like a man surprised to find himself stumbling after only two drinks.
Cassidy bobbed her head in response to Bloom’s question, eloquently dismissing the instructor’s concerns. The instructor, Ghost thought, eyeing Bloom. Not him. For the first time, the dividing line of that word seemed to truly sink in. She was an instructor, and he was just… nothing to the initiates anymore, nothing to Bloom. Nothing in the sense that he lacked an occupation for the indefinite future. Look at it this way: At least you’re nothing to Phillip, Ghost thought, and the sardonic optimism was enough to quirk his lips. His arbitrary shift in facial expression caused Cassidy’s head to swivel toward him, and Ghost folded his arms beneath her gaze, unwilling to share his thoughts with the class.
A beat passed as Cassidy’s gaze lingered on him. The attentive gleam in her eyes conveyed that she was sending him a silent message. Ghost knew that she was thinking of their private exchange in the testing room. He didn’t have any particular reason to hide it, but he didn’t want word getting out that he had hypnotized—well, pretended to, really—Cassidy to calm her down. And Cassidy wanted to keep the instructors none the wiser of her drug habits. They were at a standstill. Ghost intended to keep it that way. A secret for a secret. That had been his deal with Cassidy. And now in an ironic twist of fate, they had a mutual one. The notion amused him.
From his sole interaction with Cassidy that had taken place today, he found himself liking her, perhaps against his better judgment. So, inexplicably, that thorn of disappointment pushed itself deeper when Bloom extended an invitation for Cassidy to join them on their rock-climbing excursion, and she accepted. There was that expression again that Cassidy was so fond of using: I’ve had the pleasure. This time, when a smile crawled over Ghost’s face, Cassidy asked what it was for. He didn’t bother concealing the source of his mirth. “You have very distinct linguistic patterns, Cassidy,” Ghost answered enigmatically. Cassidy’s mouth dipped into a frown, as if she were unsure how to process this information. “No, don’t feel bad. It makes you interesting,” he assured. She continued to regard him skeptically, as if unsure whether she were being mocked. “Forgive my logophilic tendencies. Well, ladies?” Ghost interposed himself in the middle distance between Bloom and Cassidy and theatrically extended an elbow to each of them, as if they were strolling down a yellow-brick road. “Shall we get going?”
It was a frivolous flourish, made apparent when Ghost started out one set of doors for Bloom to inform him that they would make better time going the other way. “Right, just testing your mental acuity,” he played it off, laughing at himself good-naturedly. Apparently he wasn’t the only one prone to tomfoolery, because they had only just turned the first corner when Cassidy’s foot snagged on an uneven patch of concrete and she careened into Ghost’s side, throwing an arm around his waist for balance. She apologized curtly, as if embarrassed by her clumsiness and not wanting to linger on the topic. “But Cassidy,” Ghost said, eyebrows inching up his forehead in feigned shock, “we haven’t even been to the bar yet. That comes after rock-climbing. Or did you get a head start?” he teased, an oil slick of a smile spreading over his lips.

Charlotte "Charlie" Stark || 20 || Medic || Dauntlessborn

It wasn't hard to figure out that Shay was uncomfortable, and as much as that would usually make Charlie equally uncomfortable, she was a medic to these children first, and a friend second. Their safety and wellbeing was much more important than if she was inconveniencing them in that moment. As much as Shay wanted to believe she could force Charlie away through cold attitude alone, Shay was about to be disappointed, Charlie had been through too much shit to be shoved around by a 16 year old. While she worked silently, she tried to figure out how to broach the subject of Shay's health, even though she knew she would get nothing as an answer, or worse she would get lies/denials. So when Shay began to go off at her, she wasn't surprised, but she was sad. She stood, hands still holding the bloody tissues and cloths she had just used to clean up Shay's mess, listening to this girl who was clearly breaking or broken already. What happened to you Shay... Charlie thought to herself, sadness welling up within her as Shay used Aubrey's name, a warble of affection and a heap of emotions pouring out in the sentence. Charlie took a little while to wait and answer, but she wished she hadn't, as she heard and looked as Cassidy walked into the bathroom. The formerly Erudite girl stood there with raised eyebrow, fiddling with what looked like a vape in her hands. So much for a private bonding conversation... Charlie sighed and took a deep breath as she turned back to Shay. "Whether you like it or not, my job first and foremost is to make sure as many of you initiates stay alive and healthy. Unless you want me to get fired I would ask that you at least resist the urge to fight my medical decisions. Enough of your class has... well... not made it already." Charlie said, her voice quieting as she sucked in a breath. "I don't know what happened between Aubrey and you, but it doesn't make a difference to my decision to help." She said, before chucking away the dirty cloths, taking off her gloves and washing her hands. She then walked past Cassidy, giving her a simple nod, and exited the bathroom. As she walked away from the bathroom, she could feel her body slightly frustrated and angry. Shay was trying to push her away, and for what reason Charlie couldn't figure it out. There was some medical problem, but she couldn't see how that would link to this behaviour, and why Shay and Aubrey had stopped being close friends. She felt tense, stressed and wanted to relax. A headache or migraine was beginning to form right behind her eyes. After thinking about it for a while, standing in the middle of the hallway awkwardly, she finally decided to go back to the apartment for a cup of tea and read a book, or maybe take a nap. Spinning around she headed back towards the training rooms to make sure everything had been closed down properly.

She arrived in the training room right after everyone had left, as she heard the doors of the opposite end open and close. She sighed, almost grateful to be alone in the safe space that this was. It was familiar, although if she thought about it too hard it did bring back many memories of when she was younger. She quickly went through each room to make sure it was all packed up properly, grateful that it was, she'd have to congratulate Phillip for his first day, and tell Bloom she'd done a great job as head trainer for the day. She wondered where they'd all gone, Bloom and Phillip, and Ghost. He'd been here today, even though it hadn't been his job anymore. He was very committed to the young ones, even if he never said that aloud. She smiled as she checked the last room, and locked them all. It had been a better day today, nobody had had any medical problems and the worst that had happened was panic attacks. Finally feeling comfortable that the place was locked and finished, she exited the doors again and made her way back to her and Ghost's shared apartment. It was as she began that walk that she felt that uncomfortable feeling, the feeling of being alone. Her arms wrapped around her shoulders protectively and she made herself walk faster. The silence was always too much. When she was around others she would forget, forget that Jeremy had every ability and reason to find her and Ghost and do whatever he liked. Unfortunately even Ghost couldn't protect her from Jeremy anymore. She was so scared that she would bump into him on the way home. So scared that he would take her and Ghost would be left not knowing where she had gone and what had happened. Even worse, she was scared Ghost wouldn't care, or that Aubrey would be the one taken, or Ghost, or Sasha. Or that they would all get hurt. Or that any of the innocent initiates or her friends would get hurt or taken because of her. Jeremy was an asshole, and Charlie knew that whatever Jeremy did was never her fault, but that didn't stop her from feeling like she had to always look out for everyone. She couldn't let anybody be hurt if she could take their place instead. At least in this circumstance. This was her father, this was her abuse. Nobody else should suffer for it. She felt a shiver, even though she was not at all cold, and picked up her pace even more if that were possible, and tried to keep her head down so she wouldn't be easily recognizable should Jeremy see her.

Maybe she should have been thinking positive thoughts, or maybe she should have stayed in the bathroom with Shay, or texted Ghost to find out where he was, or stayed with Bloom or Phillip. Maybe she should have gone to Amity when she turned 16, or should have alerted some authority far back in her past. Now it was too late. Charlie felt like her whole world stopped moving as she froze in place. At the bottom of the stairway up to Ghost's apartment, stood Jeremy Daniels, leader of Dauntless. Charlie felt like she had lost all hearing and all sense of balance, the world spun around her, Jeremy seemed to grow to the size of the entire Dauntless compound, the apartment suddenly felt 100 miles away, her body suddenly felt so weak and small that she wondered whether she was shrinking. No blinks, no breath, no movement. His back was turned to her, maybe she could leave and go somewhere else, maybe she could... Suddenly her name was called, and Charlie felt her legs crumble, and yet she remained standing as a familiar older voice repeated her name. Peeking around Jeremy's tall frame, Obadiah Parks was looking straight at Charlie, and there was relief in his face. But Charlie was feeling anything but relief. Terror flowed through her as Jeremy turned, his long hair flicking over his shoulder as Charlie's heart sunk and she was looking directly into the dark eyes of her father. Obadiah waved at her, and Charlie knew she had to walk over, her legs felt like lead and jelly at the same time, each step felt so heavy that she could hardly get the foot up, each leg felt so wobbly that she was certain she would collapse. She felt like she would throw up or pass out. She tried to smile at Obadiah, managing to force a reasonably decent smile. "Hello." She said quietly as she reached the group. She quivered as Obadiah took her arm and pulled her to join the group, situating her right next to Jeremy. She stood as still as a stone, able to feel the intense energy emanating from Jeremy at that point. It was at this point that she realized that Blair and Briony's father was there too. The three leaders of Dauntless. They were discussing something, and yet all Charlie could think of was that Jeremy was looking at her. She could feel it, she didn't even need to look. The way his eyes scanned over her body, the way he hated her and desired her presence all at the same time, the way he had this power over her that she couldn't control. It didn't matter that she stood here with the other two men, they were nothing compared to Jeremy. She blanked out in terms of the conversation, and it took her a while to realize they were talking to her. "I'm sorry, I missed that... could you repeat?" Charlie said, trying to sound like she hadn't been shocked. Obadiah repeated himself and Charlie forced herself to focus and listen. He was saying that they were talking about the murders that had been going around. Charlie nodded, trying to figure out why they were asking her. "It is more than the usual." She agreed. Wishing the conversation to finish so she could go. Then the question was asked about why she thought this was happening, what she was doing to try and prevent more. "I... I am keeping up with the initiates as much as possible, checking on them each day during simulations, trying to make sure they've all got someone to speak with if they need. They're all very strong, they will be great Dauntless members I'm sure..." She said, her mouth drying and she tried to keep moistening her lips as she spoke. Thankfully Mr Avalon piped up about his thoughts on the matter and Charlie was able to deflate herself and shrink back into unimportance. That's when she felt a large, familiar hand wrap around her wrist. Her body became ice cold and she knew she was trapped now. The grip started off loose, but it was tightening, and Charlie wanted to squirm and run but had no ability to do that yet. Obadiah and Avalon hadn't noticed yet, nor did she think they would.

Finally Mr Avalon said his farewell and Charlie nodded with a brisk attempt at a smile. Then Obadiah turned to her. Asking her when they would next see her at their place for a meal. "I'm not sure, I could come now." She said as a joke and also as a hope. Obadiah laughed and brushed her attempt at rescue away, even as she resisted the urge to squeal as Jeremy's grip tightened around her wrist, her hand now throbbing and sharp pains piercing her skin. Obadiah please... please anybody help me... She begged the universe, still attempting to keep a smile on her face. She could see Jeremy's eyes gazing to where he could take her, and her heart was so far sunk that she had little energy to even attempt to fight him. Obadiah was still speaking though, and Charlie was trying to keep him there. He mentioned how he missed her father. "Yes, we all miss him, he was a good man, a good doctor, and a good father." She said, the last words spitefully thrown at Jeremy. She knew she shouldn't have said that, as Jeremy's grip tightened once again and she started to worry that he would break her wrist. Obadiah nodded, seemingly distracted as he began to receive a call on his phone. Oh no please... please don't go... please... Charlie begged and begged silently, but Obadiah told them he had to go and picked up the phone, walking away. At first there was simply silence, no words, no movement, nothing. Then without warning Jeremy began to move, his grip having remained as tight as it had gotten to, and Charlie had no option but to follow him. She had gotten to shocked at this point though that she felt numb, and the pain in her wrist felt almost non-existent now, in fact all she could think was she had to just survive. She had to remove herself from this experience, if she couldn't escape physically then she needed to do so mentally so she would be able to go on living. Jeremy led her away from the apartment, and Charlie thanked everything above for that, hoping that it meant he hadn't found her location yet, and it had truly just been a coincidence. It didn't take long though for them to find a bar with dark lighting and loud music. Charlie was hardly able to feel worse or better as she had already resolved herself to do her best to just survive, as Jeremy ordered himself a drink and dragged her to his own private booth. Charlie began to wonder if she was even truly here, or whether it was a nightmare, whether she was reliving a memory, whether this was some demented dream. Whether she was the one in a simulation. Jeremy finally let go of her wrist as he pushed her into the booth. She stumbled as far back as she could, her right hand immediately going to try and soothe the left wrist. The bar's lighting of red and blue were so ironic that Charlie wished she could laugh at it, the colour's of police sirens. Yet here she was, with her abuser, her father, and nobody would save her. Jeremy remained standing for a while, downing the drinks he had ordered. Charlie kept her eyes off of him, not wanting to see him or look at him in any way. She never looked at him unless he forced her to. He hated it. It was one small thing she could do to spite him, to show him her deep and inner hatred of him. Soon enough though he finished his drink, the giant of a man coming to the booth and sitting down. Charlie shivered as he put one hand on her knee, and wished she had put leggings on as she felt every movement of his skin on hers. Just stay alive. She told herself. Be grateful you have a jumpsuit on and not a skirt or dress. She told herself as she looked away from Jeremy, even as his hand trailed lines on her thigh and his other hand trailed her neck. This is why you don't wear outfits like this. As much as you thought it would be nice for Ghost, this is your reminder. She fought every urge to whimper out of fear, and remained still as a stone. Jeremy's voice rumbled low and deadly.
"Look at me." He ordered her. For once she felt a spark of rebellion, and she held strong, not a muslce moving. His hand suddenly gripped her chin and she felt a forceful yank as he snapped her head round to look at him. Charlie couldn't hide her shaking as she stared up with chocolate coloured eyes into the death coloured eyes of her father. He wasn't human. He was a demon. Every muscle in her body was being used to stop herself shaking and whimpering, so she stared back at him with indignant hatred. Neither of them moved, except for his hand, his fingers pressing tightly, grabbing the skin on her thigh and pinching it so tightly Charlie was struggling not to yell in pain. The grin on his face became a familiar sight as she felt she must be in a nightmare. She began to wonder what everyone would do if she didn't turn up to training tomorrow, what Ghost would do if she didn't turn up to the apartment tonight, what would people do?

As if a miracle, Charlie's eyes flitted to the side. All it took was one look and Charlie knew it was either now or never. Either she could sit her and remain under Jeremy's control, to fight to her last moments, to be taken advantage of, possibly killed if she did one wrong move... Or she could brave it all. She could try to escape. She knew she wasn't fast enough. But she had to try. "Asher!!!" She suddenly said with the loudest and chirpiest voice she could muster, and leapt out of the booth with surprising speed and agility. She didn't get very far before Jeremy's reflexes caught up and he grabbed her wrist. But she wasn't willing to go back with him and she yanked. A bright light flashed in her mind as pain flooded her wrist and she very clearly felt a part of the wrist break. However she was successful as she pulled her wrist free and ran over to Asher who had been walking past with an apron on. "Asher! It's so good to see you I haven't seen you in so long! How are you!" Charlie began to speak very quickly, her smile wide and her voice high as she tried to get him to talk to her. She could hear Jeremy standing up and walking over, but he seemed to be keeping his distance for the moment, she just had to move quickly. "Actually I needed to talk to Jacob about something, is he at the bar? Can you let me into the back please?" She asked, and the last question she gripped Asher's hand and squeezed it tight, her eyes suddenly serious and no longer happy. Asher looked confused, and simply nodded. Charlie gripped Asher's arm like the harness of a rollercoaster as he led her to the back, and she didn't even look back to see whether Jeremy left or watched her or not. She had escaped. Tears began to stream down her face and she began to sob even as they walked. Asher looked concerned, but became even more confused as Charlie began to laugh through the sobs. She had truly escaped. Not forever, maybe not even for long, but she had escaped. She had never done that before. Pride and power began to grow within her chest even as Asher led her through the bar gates and into the back where Jacob stood. Charlie still sobbing and laughing let go of Asher's arms as soon as she could and collapsed onto the couch that Jacob had in his back room. As she composed herself she could hear Jacob ripping into Asher with questions of what had happened, and Asher explaining he had no idea what happened. "I'm sorry. I... I just needed rescuing from a creep." She said, again a surge of power coming over her as she declared in her own words Jeremy a creep. Jacob immediately walked over, but Charlie brushed him away with her right hand. "Nothing happened." She lied. "He just... you know... I managed to get to Asher pretty fast." She said. Jacob declared that he would check the camera's, but Charlie knew it wouldn't show anything. Jeremy's booth was the most private one there, it had been pure luck that Asher was walking past at that moment. The camera's did not point to his, and even if they did it wouldn't have shown anything inappropriate, as Jeremy was good at hiding things in public. She knew him well enough to know he would have taken her somewhere else, his house, her house, an alleyway, his office. She had escaped though. As Jacob rushed to watch the footage Charlie checked her wrist. She winced as the pain flooded at every moment, and she saw the bruising that was quickly popping up. That would be hard to explain... She pulled her legs up on the couch and kept her hand tucked behind her legs so the boys couldn't see it. "Do you mind if I hang back here for a while? I might take a nap if that's okay." She said. Jacob nodded and said she could stay here as long as she needed. Asher asked if she wanted anything to drink. "I'd love a tea, if you guys have any here." She said. Asher said he could find something, and Jacob yelled that he needed to get back to work. The two brothers bickered and Charlie felt more and more safe as she listened to the two of them bicker and fight about silly things. Jacob eventually said he couldn't see anything, and Charlie nodded, Asher brought her tea and the two boys made their way back out, locking every door behind them. Charlie curled up on the couch as she sipped her tea. Fear still shook her body, pain still wrought her wrist, but pride still powered her body as she remembered that simple fact. Today, she escaped.

Phillip and Honey Nerdy. Nerdy.

Briony desperately wished that she didn’t have a fear of dogs she remembered a time when she hadn’t been. Though your brain couldn’t help but be against something that caused you so much trauma in your life. She knew that Honey wasn’t a bad dog, that Honey was very well trained and sweet. However her brain always shot alarm bells with the thoughts of Honey turning at any moment from the sweet soft face to a vicious snarling mass of biting teeth. Briony couldn’t help it as the two of them just simply laughed happily with one. She looked amused as he mentioned about Honey becoming a spoiled princess then he added like her. “Hey!”she shouted seeming mad but her smile said otherwise as she tried hitting him her punches swung at him were playful. Your highness please I am just your lowly servant nearly had her trip from the laughter that burst from her. Though he bowed which left himself vulnerable which she took advantage of by whacking him in the head. Their conversation soon became a tad serious for a moment as she brought up about not being sure it was wise of them being seen together. However Phillip had a quick answer to that which made her smile. He simply didn’t care because he was her friend and always would.”That’s true you don’t seem like an instructor anyways. Also yeah Ghost being around all day certainly didn’t help.”she said thoughts. She felt his arm go around her though the talk of Ghost had her mood souring for a moment. She planned on seeing Ghost tonight or at least was gonna try getting information from him. Briony was sure that he knew more than he was letting on about where Blair was and that pissed her off. How dare Ghost keep information about her own twin hidden away. Her mood returned as suddenly Phillip suggested blowing off some steam that would be wonderful. His next words had her eyes brightening with excitement. She nodded, starting to follow after him the two stopping for burritos.”I will never say no to burritos.”She said with a laugh as they ordered them and started eating. Briony took a few moments before reaching over to give Honey a bite of the burrito and a light touch on her wet nose. Then with that she moved back to the other side of Phillip so as not to completely freak herself out .

It soon became perfectly clear where they were heading.”Oooh.”she said then heard Phillips I told you it was one of our familiar haunts. She couldn’t help but grin then smirk as he questioned them about setting a new record. “Obviously just try to not eat too much of my dust,”she teased. Her hands undid her hair only to fix it into a tighter ponytail wanting her long blonde hair out for the way. Next her shoes were fixed making sure the laces were tied and she wouldn’t crash later because of it. “Ready.”she said with a grin. Then he was counting down before shouting go all three of them taking off with a burst of speed she wasn’t sure if it was the excitement of being together again or simply letting loose after earlier but they were soaring. Heavy breathing and sweat began to happen as Phillip and Briony ran down a half-made track, scrambling up banks, climbing trees, sliding down slips, walking over logs, and finally with a burst they came out from the path at what seemed a random point, and were standing at the bottom of a waterfall (reused this line cause it was perfect for what’s going on). Once they all made it there was no talking, just the simple heavy breathing or panting occurred. The sweat trickling down her back felt hot and sticky as she stood there regaining her breath. Her gaze going to the time as Phillip held it out for her to see.”Damn yeah I think it is a new record. I agree we should.”she said with a breathy laugh still trying to return to normal breathing. “Oh yeah it definitely let me run off some steam I think some weight as well.”she joked before listening as he spoke about going for a dip in the water. “You know what that’s fair.”she said with a laugh as he responded to her retort about not bringing her togs. “Hey that’s cheating.”she said as he was already halfway undressed heading towards their diving spot. She pulled her own shirt off slipping out of her pants, setting it off to the side where they wouldn’t get wet. He had a head start but she was nimbler so she quickly scrambled after him trying to stay as silent as she could. She moved quickly grabbing onto familiar holds as she climbed moving to where he couldn’t see her she sped up a little then beat him to the top. Once he made it he seemed to look down to see if she had followed. “Gotcha.”she said, grabbing his arm then pulling him with her. The two had done this so often they knew wherever their bodies went in would be safe. Their bodies pressed together momentarily as they fell through the air, the two of them out of habit having pulled one another closer. Their grips only loosened as the water surged over them as they sank deeply into the decent sized body of water. Briony broke the surface with a laugh and wiped the water out of her eyes the best that she could. “I will never get over how fun that is.”

Rhysand(Rhys).

Rhysand hadn’t been expecting for Randi to be outside of the bathroom waiting for him to exit. So when an item came flying his way he automatically caught it in his hand. It took him a few seconds to realize what it was, gaze shifting down to his hand observing the item. A lollipop, something that Randi almost always had on her or around her it seemed so he couldn’t help the small grin that flickered across his features. He unwrapped the candy before raising it up to his mouth as Randi pushed off the wall starting to leave. Her words were an invitation and challenge almost as she started leaving, glancing back at him for a moment to give a playful smile. Rhysand stood there momentarily stunned that she was inviting him out for ice cream though he found himself following after her with a grin on his own face. It seemed like she had noticed the changes in him during the simulation. Maybe she thought something was really wrong with him. If she did he couldn’t say he blamed her. Rhysand knew if their roles were reversed he would probably be wondering if she was alright or if something had really gone wrong during the testing.

He followed simply, letting the silence between them linger for a few moments as they walked. He was still trying to piece together a few things about what all had happened. It was unusual for Rafe and Rain to make appearances like they had these past few days. Rain even more so it had been a few months since he had fronted yet he had come out today during a test. The previous test with Rafe coming out he could slightly understand because Shay had collapsed during it so protector Rafe had pushed through. Rhysand wondered if she should talk with his aunt about it then the two of them head to the doctor. Of course he didn’t really wanna be seen by anyone for this yet something seemed off these past few weeks. Rhysand ran a hand through his hair; it could just be the stress of everything yeah that had to be it. His thoughts snapped back to the present as Randi seemed to ask him something. “Oh yeah I’m alright just thinking about the fear simulations we’ve had recently. We had an instructor's fear and now we had combination fear sims today just a bit unusual.”he commented. He listened as she gave her opinion on the matter he sped up some so they were walking side by side now. It wouldn’t be much longer before they made it to their usual ice cream place.

That made his heart flutter for a moment at their ice cream place. He had thought about it so simply yet it wasn’t exactly their ice cream place anymore. It’s not like it couldn’t be though since she was talking with him again that was progress. “I think I’ll try something new this time. What about you?”he asked as they got even closer. He thought about all the different flavors and combinations he could get. He listened to her as they entered the shop a small bell ringing to indicate their entrance before heading over to get some.

Thorn

Mood: Mixed

Location: Workshop

Interactions: Aubrey

Thorn was more than a bit surprised when his journey toward his work shop was interrupted by the very person he had just been thinking about. Over the past several days he and Aubrey hadn’t spent much time together at all, both of them dealing with their own personal issues in their own ways. Seeing the blonde before him now Thorn instantly felt a great mixture of emotions ranging from delight to guilt as he realized she had probably only followed him to check in on the dagger he had just planned to start working on. He should have had it done by now, it was an important piece of Aubrey’s past that she would want back and he knew that. Yet, all week his mind had been on nothing other than the sword he had briefly told Aubrey about. He wished with all his heart that he could take back some of the time spent on the sword and give it to the dagger, he wished he could show Aubrey some sort of progress made, but no. The dagged had been sitting on his side bench while he tended to his own needs above Aubrey’s and he felt nothing but guilt over it. “H-hey!” He stuttered out a greeting as the blonde asked if he wanted any company. “Yeah, c-come on in.” His words were choppy again as he tried to control his racing thoughts and feelings. Stepping aside he waved her into the shop and followed her in. “You are welcome here any time…you know that right?” Thorn informed her but the look in her eyes as she glanced back at him told him that she didn’t believe it and instantly the young man wished he could find a way to make her feel at home here.

For what felt like an eternity Thorn just watched and stood awkwardly as Aubrey walked around the shop, picking up different tools and projects to examine them carefully. His tongue felt stuck to the roof of his mouth as he struggled to find the words he didn’t want to say but finally, with a sign and a truly regret-filled glimmer in his chocolate gaze, he spoke up, “Aubrey…your dagger…I am sorry but I haven’t worked on it yet.” He admitted, the words hard to come out. “I should have made it a priority and I didn’t…I feel awful about it and I swear I was on my way here today to work on the engraving.” He assured her and hoped she knew that he wasn’t lying. “I don’t have any excuse…I’m just…really really sorry. As I said, I was planning to work on it now and…well…I still can if you would like or I can give it back if you are no longer interested.” He offered and watched as she drew closer. Reaching over he carefully picked the beautiful blade up from his side bench and held it out to Aubrey. Her words and movements were gentle and meaningful as they discussed the knife and she brushed the blade with her fingertips. “I’ll work on it now. Please, make yourself at home.” He gestured to the entirety of the workshop as he made the offer and hoped she would find something she enjoyed or some way to make herself comfortable while he worked. He truly wanted to make sure she had the best experience in order to make up for not having the engraving done yet.

Once Aubrey had ventured off to examine some of his other projects Thorn turned his attention back to the knife in his hand and brought it over to his main workbench. Reaching for his tools he first grabbed a small and very worn measuring tape so he could get the exact measurements of the dagger in order to make sure the engraving was scaled properly. Taking out a booklet he pulled out the design he and Aubrey had decided on when she brought the dagger to him and used carbon paper to trace the design onto the blade in the proper sizing. Once the tracing was complete Thorn removed both pieces of paper and examined the blade to make sure the design outline was properly showing. Seeing that the design was perfectly placed and lining up with the hilt properly Thorn turned and prepared for the hard part. Over the next several minutes the young man was consumed by the focus it took to properly engrave the metal. His rotary tool was tungsten carbide which ensured that the engraving looked smooth rather than scratchy on the hard metal that made up the dagger. As he moved the tip of his tool along the dagger the workshop became filled with the slight hum of the burr along with the thrum of the rotary itself. Once he was a few details into the project Thorn looked up to see what Aubrey was doing and noticed the blonde holding a dirty work cloth from his forge to her nose. “Aubrey?” He called out and noticed she looked shaky. “Are you okay?” He asked and could already tell that she wasn’t. When he was met with a silent thumbs up from the young woman Thorn was far from convinced. He kept a close eye on her as he pretended to be back to work and as he suspected things were far from fine. “Aubrey!” He lept to his feat, shutting off the machine and racing to her side as she slumped over on his couch. Carefully he checked her pulse which was luckily still strong before shifting her slightly so she was less likely to fall off the couch and hurt herself. “Aubrey? Aubrey, can you hear me?” He asked as he shook her and attempted to wake her up. She was out cold. Jumping back up the young man raced across the room to a banged-up first aid kit that was hung on the wall. Ripping it open he tore through it in search of something very specific. After a few heartbeats of searching, he finally found the tiny packages he had been looking for and raced back over to the blonde. Gently wiping the blood from her nose he tore the packages open and held the smelling salts under her nostrils. If these didn’t wake her he would have to call for an ambulance.

Nerdy. Nerdy.

Aubrey Stark || 16 || Initiate || Dauntlessborn

Aubrey had not remembered passing out, as is usual for the activity, but what she did remember was a throbbing feeling in her head, an intense light in her vision and the feeling of heaviness and floating all at the same time. But it was with a shock that her body suddenly jolted to attention, consciousness flooded her and she jerked her head back instinctively, unintentionally spraying the blood from her slightly dripping nose onto Thorn's clothes. "F*ck!" Aubrey said as she grabbed her nose, the strong scent causing her to blink and shake for a moment as she came to, her eyes dilating and contracting, her vision was blurred and it was only through her memory that she was able to tell that Thorn was right there. She couldn't see much else except his shape of body and the colour of his hair and clothes. She held her head with one hand as she bowed over the couch and moaned slightly. She briefly heard Thorn ask if she was going to throw up and she shook her head. "It's just a headache." She said, waving off his concern with a shaky hand before putting it back on her temple to try relieve the pressure. With her other hand she pinched her nose, wincing from the sting within. It didn't bleed much, but it stung like hell. Her heart pitter pattered in her chest like a little tap dancer and she was waiting for the world to stop spinning. Thorn still stood before her and she made a frustrated growl sound. "Either sit next to me or go back to your work, you feel like Charlie when you stand there." She snapped at him, watching as he didn't move for a second but then eventually sat beside her. Although some part of her was frustrated at him babying her, the other felt comfort in the fact that he was near her, that he was still beside her and supporting her. He had told her when she came in that she could make herself home, that she was always welcome here. She might not have believed it then, but now she was beginning to, she knew Thorn was a good person, but at this point she was struggling to trust anyone. Thorn wasn't someone who had ever broken her trust exactly, other than questioning her logic and siding with her sister and Ghost, but in the end they had been right and she had been wrong. Well intentioned maybe, but terribly terribly wrong. Silence hung in the air and Aubrey craved the sounds of the forge, she wished Thorn would just go back to what he was doing, but she knew he was too concerned with her. Every time her head drooped lower he flinched like he would catch her. Finally, coming back to her senses and her vision clearing, she raised her body back into a normal position and wiped away the last of the blood from her nose. It hadn't been much blood, but it was still frustrating and annoying. She tossed the dirty rag towards a bin and sighed as it missed, she thought about getting up to put it in but knew that if she tried to get up she would probably fall down.

Finally the silence got too much for Aubrey, and she took a deep breath. "Look, I'm fine Thorn. I haven't slept great recently and the sounds of you working were really nice. I promise I won't die if you just let me have a nap. okay?" She said, staring at him with her usually large blue eyes drooping, large bags under her eyes showing that she was being fairly honest. Thorn hesitated, mentioning that he really was worried about her and how maybe he should get Charlie or they should go to the infirmary or something. Aubrey's body rippled as she got slightly angry at his reply. "If you don't want me to sleep here, I'll go somewhere else." She said, mustering her strength and raising herself up, watching as the world seemed to flip upside down and sway before her. Thorn immediately stopped trying to fight her, and steadied her swaying body. Instead of fighting it, Aubrey slumped against him, almost too weak to let herself go back on the couch. With strong arms he let her back down, and she wasn't sure but it felt like he draped her in a blanket. "Thanks Thorn. You're the best." She said, and she almost instinctively said "I love you." before catching herself and chuckling softly without saying it. That was what she had always said to Charlie and Sasha, and now Thorn was acting like them. She rested her head on the arm rest and closed her eyes. She could tell Thorn was still hovering so she opened one eye and smiled at him. "I promise I'm fine. Let me sleep. You can check on me if it makes you feel better." She said with an attempted wink. Thorn finally nodded and headed back to where he had been working on her dagger. "But don't make any mistakes, I want that dagger perfect! It's more important than me right now okay?" She joked, before letting her eyes close and trying to fall back asleep. Sleep evaded her this time, having been woken up so strongly, and she remained semi-conscious throughout the time that Thorn remained at his forge. She was aware of when he came to check on her, she was aware of the warmth in the room and the smell of metals and heat. She was aware of the sounds of the metal on metal, the whirring grinder and the background humming sounds. It was comforting, and she found that she was more rested from having laid on the couch that she was starting to feel like she could get up and go do something. It might have been only half an hour, or it could have been an hour or more, but eventually Aubrey sat up. For now Thorn seemed fully committed and focused on her knife. She watched as he meticulously worked on it, a focus on his face like nothing she had ever seen before. There was such beauty in that, in the focus and passion he held for things like this.

She didn't tell him she was up, instead she sat there until he looked over, surprise filling him when he saw she was up. He took off his head gea, coming over to ask if she was feeling better. "Yeah, I just need the bathroom. Can you show me where it is?" She asked, watching as he nodded and began to move towards the room. Aubrey got up and pretended that she wasn't shaky and weak still, walking confidently behind him and going into the bathroom he pointed to. "Don't bother waiting for me, I'll come out when I'm done." She laughed, not wanting him to wait outside the door the whole time. She spent a little bit of time just sitting on the toilet, trying to let the coolness of the bathroom wake her body up without her swaying to and fro. Eventually she stood at the sink, her arms gripping it to help her stand, and her eyes focusing and refocusing on her reflection in the small dirty mirror that hung on the wall. She splashed water on herself and just had to admit that she looked awful. Her eyes were sunken and her body was not happy. Rubbing her face to try give it some colour, she took a big breath and took her hands off of the sink to see how she was. Thankfully she was no longer shaky and the world wasn't swaying around her, so that meant she wasn't swaying either. Nodding at her reflection and attempting a cocky smile, she exited the bathroom. However, instead of going back to the workshop directly, she looked around for a kitchenette or just some hot drinks, and finally came across a kettle and some coffee. She flicked it on, quickly mixing up two cups of coffee and once the water was boiled she poured some in and headed back to where Thorn was. When he saw her coming he again stopped what he was doing. "I made some coffee, couldn't find milk though so its just black." She said with a shrug, sitting down on the couch and placing Thorn's coffee on a stack of boxes that was next to the couch. She sipped at her coffee, enjoying the burning sensation and the smell that was wafting up her nose. "Ahh, this is perfect, terrible and badly made but perfect." She joked as Thorn finally came over. She sipped at her coffee happily as they sat together. She knew she should open up to him, that would be the proper thing to do and would be respectful and kind, but unlike Thorn and Charlie, she wasn't the kindest person. "Your tattoos are cool, have I ever told you that? I love this one specifically." She said, her fingers trailling the dagger tattoo that he had, surrounded by thorns. "Have you seen my back tattoo? I was thinking of adding thorns to it but then I thought it would be too much like Charlie's, because she has one on her back with thorns on it. Maybe I'll show you mine sometime." She said, putting her coffee down mostly having drank it all already. She sat back on the couch. "You know, you're like the male version of Charlie. You're kind and nice, and thoughtful. I feel like if you'd been born closer in age you guys would totally be together. I can't believe she picked to be with Ghost, I don't see how they get along at all, comparitively Ghost is so cruel. You're so much better than him." Aubrey said with an exasperated sigh. "Don't you think? Oh hey is the dagger finished? Or will it take longer? I should probably get going sometime, or we could do something. I don't know. I actually love being in here. You sure I can come whenever I like?" Aubrey began to speak faster and louder again, more like her normal self, as the weakness faded away and some of the caffeine began to kick in. She looked at Thorn with a nice smile.

Randi

Mood: Complicated

Location: Street / Rolled Ice Cream Shop

Interactions: Rhys

The silence that surrounded the duo as they left the training center wasn’t uncomfortable but was a bit unwelcome as it left Randi vulnerable to her thoughts again. She wasn’t normally one to hide from a bad situation but in the past two days her bad situations weren’t JUST bad, they were life-shattering in their own ways. While most people might think discovering they are Divergent is one of the worst things that could happen to them Randi didn’t feel like it was truly the greater of the two events from the past couple of days. No, that went to finding out that her Uncle, the man who raised her, had murdered her parents. Not only that but he had murdered Thorn’s mother as well and who knew how many other fires in Dauntless could be linked back to him. All her life she had believed this man was one of her greatest allies, one of her best friends, instead he had been feeding her lies and building the memories with her that he had stolen from her parents. Being divergent wasn’t great but it just didn’t compare at the moment to the betrayal she felt and the mixture of emotions that raged within her.

Swirling her tongue around her lollipop a few times Randi forced the thoughts that clenched her stomach into the back of her mind for now. She had let them linger in the forefront of her mind long enough and she needed to be smart and not drain herself by stressing out uncontrollably. It was easier said than done but Randi decided to force her brain elsewhere by playing a game as she walked along with Rhys. Each time the came upon a crack in the sidewalk she needed to step over it with the opposite foot from the last crack and if multiple cracks covered the sidewalk she would have to try and jump it. It was a silly little game but Randi didn’t care because it got her mind off of the stressful situations that had been consuming it and put her in a state of hyper-fixated ease. Sometimes the steps and jumps would cause her to speed up or fall behind but Rhys seemed to mindlessly be matching her pace as he dwelled within his own thoughts. Glancing up at him once she had jumped two multi-cracks in a row she tilted her head and quirked an eyebrow. What was he thinking about? She could see his jaw working itself as it seemed to tense and loosen with each thought that passed through him. His eyes were on the path ahead of them but also looked to be far away like his mind was in a completely different place than the twisting streets of the Dauntless complex. It was a look she knew she must get often as well since she tended to get lost in her own thoughts from time to time. Not wanting to bother him or ruin any moments of great realization Randi kept quiet and to herself for a few more minutes until she spotted the rolled ice place she had been leading them towards. “Hey, earth to Rhys. You still in there?” She spoke for the first time since they had left the training center and waved her hand to get his attention. It was incredibly odd to be talking to Rhys and hanging out with him so casually now after all this time and what he had done. Still, Randi knew that she didn’t want to be alone right now and part of her felt that he shouldn’t be alone either.

Listening to him claim to be okay she found she wasn’t totally convinced but then again she knew Rhys could be a liar. He continued on and brought up how odd the simulations had been, something Randi agreed with. “Yeah…” She began as she pulled her lollipop stick from her mouth, the hard candy having vanished from the end. “It would feel more relevant if we were having to face all of our fears at once, ya know? Like Charlie’s fears didn’t frighten me at all. But I guess it also could be used to document how we handle unfamiliar scenarios and deal with stressful environments?” She suggested as they drew closer to the rolled ice cream shop. “Who knows, maybe we will still have to face all of our fears at once?” The blonde shrugged her shoulders and tossed the lollipop stick into the nearest trash bin as they passed. “Though I feel like that could get pretty weird and complicated. Like if you fear fire, tornados, and crocodiles do you just end up having to face a tornado full of flaming crocodiles?” She pondered aloud and looked at Rhys who seemed a little amused by her thought process. “My genius is an acquired taste.”

As they passed through the doorway into the rolled ice shop Randi rushed over to the case and saw all the pre-made ice cream flavors they had, the boba tea options on the board, plus the mix-and-match flavors you could get if you decided to go with fresh made rolled ice. “I think I am gonna get a mango boba tea and the raspberry chocolate truffle ice cream.” She decided after a moment. She loved almost anything mango so the boba tea was easy. Randi was also quite aware that she would kill for just about anything chocolate and figured the raspberries would complement the flavor nicely. “That mango and passionfruit one looks good too.” She added and gave Rhys a wink. “I wonder how many samples they will let us try? Should we test it out?”

Shayla

Mood: Mixed

Location: Bathroom

Interactions: Charlie, Cas

Shay remained eerily silent as she looked Charlie in the eyes, her icy gaze as cold as the grave and holding no emotion despite the torrent raging inside her. With the audience of Cas now present she had no desire to put on a show with Charlie due to lack of energy and honestly not wanting to be a spectacle to one of the girls she had been trying her hardest to avoid. Charlie seemed to want to say more and honestly Shay didn’t blame her in the slightest. With Cas there though, and perhaps due to her understanding that Shay felt far from well, Charlie left her words as they were and departed the bathroom leaving Cas and Shay alone. For a second dull blue eyes remained locked on the door Charlie had departed through until finally, she turned them to gaze at Cas. For days now Shay had been working hard to keep from crossing paths with the dark-haired Erudite transfer. She had made a mistake several nights ago and dared to let herself indulge in human connection, something she had sworn off years ago. Drinking and drugs had fogged her mind and allowed her to believe she could risk letting Cas in and possibly allowing her to grow attached to her. That was the last thing Shay wanted despite how nice it had been to be close to someone again even if it was for one single night. It was a mistake. She reminded herself as she stood and gazed at Cassidy with the stillness of a statue. Shay had to keep telling herself it was a mistake, she couldn’t allow herself to believe it was something she could allow herself to do again because it would only lead to hurting Cas in the long run.

As the smoke from the vape hit the air Shay felt her head begin to pound again. She sweetness of the flavor sent needles into her brain due to how sensitive she had been the past two days. Strong smells were growing to be more and more of a problem but Shay did her best not to show the increase of pain. Instead, she just continued to lock eyes with Cas, studying the beautiful woman’s gaze as a swordsman would his opponents form. “I don’t see how the inner workings of my relationships are relevant to you Cas.” She replied cooly but as she suspected the dark-haired girl didn’t seem to be affected by her tone or her words. It was frustrating to not be able to push her away as easily as she had others. Usually, avoidance would cause people to catch the hint, if not that then a few well-placed words, yet Cas ignored all of it and chatted with Shay as though they were the best of friends dishing out gossip. The part of Shay that had managed to take control the other night was still screaming within her to just let Cas in but luckily her more rational self wasn’t hindered by substance right now. She was more than capable of keeping herself composed and emotionless as Cas drew closer and blew smoke toward her while poking around for details about Aubrey. As Cas threw out her theory Shay’s mask broke for a millisecond and that was all the time the former Erudite girl seemed to need to get her answer. Shay had never been IN love with Aubrey but she did love Aubrey and at one point in their lives the two of them had been like sisters. Shay still held that love within her, she still wrote letters to her childhood friend despite knowing the blonde would never read them. What she had done to Aubrey in order to spare her heart in the future was horrible but it had been for the best, Shay was sure of it.

She remained silent not wanting to give Cas the thrill of a response despite the amount of questions thrown her way. If the time ever came that Shay be truly interrogated the person running the show would have a truly difficult time getting answers out of the young woman who danced with pain and death on a daily bases. Yet, it seemed that her lack of response didn’t completely deter the other young woman as in an instant Cas had pressed her lips to Shay’s in a kiss. This kiss was not just a simple peck on the lips but while quick it was deep and sensual with Cas’s tongue flicking across Shay’s lips teasingly. Luckily Shay managed to keep her composure, she did not react to the kiss, she did not indulge in it or shove Cas away. She remained absolutely still as Cas kissed her and when the moment ended she simply shoved any reaction she was feeling deep down within her and turned to look in the mirror beside Cas who was fixing her own hair. Shay adjusted her necklace length as the cord had slipped a bit with everything going on and acted as casually as Cas had. When the young woman asked her about a feather and if she had seen it Shay didn’t even look at her and replied, “No.” Her tone was as icy as ever even as her feelings bashed at each other internally. She wanted more time with Cas but she would not allow herself to seek it out or request it. Once Cas had departed the bathroom Shay finally relaxed a bit, her hands falling to the sink to support herself as she tried to piece together her next moves and how exactly she would gather the strength to get home.

Cassidy "Cas" Wickham || 16 || Initiate || Erudite Transfer

Cassidy was quite happy to walk with the two instructors, or rather, the one instructor and Ghost. She was genuinely excited to go rock climbing, she hadn't been in a long time, since coming to Dauntless that was, and had actually not realized there were rock walls here. She had done rock climbing in Erudite as a way to keep her physical body in a good condition and to keep her muscles working and strong, of course dance had also been good for this, but the two were very different sports and used very different muscles. She wondered if her body had lost any of the necessary muscle strength or whether she had retained it from having done it for so long and because Dauntless was also physically draining. She had been very grateful for how much she had done in Erudite when she transferred to Dauntless, although that hadn't been what she was going to do, having wanted to stay in Erudite, she had adapted easily into this society. She was strong and capable, she was willing to do whatever it took to succeed, and she was self-reliant and had enough self-esteem to not care about being at the top. She genuinely believed she could be at the top if she so desired, and from the scoreboards it showed that even without trying she was still reaching top marks, but she didn't want to stand out. Having psychotic parents who could at any point figure out she and Griffon were alive was scary enough, so flying under the radar was the best way to stay out of their sight. She had to make sure she and Griffon both passed so that neither one of them was going to be going to the factionless area. But she also didn't want to come up at the top. Griffon's scores were slightly concerning to her, they had the possibility of dropping low enough to drop out, but Cas had thoughts... she could see those who were at the same level as Griffon, and she knew that it wouldn't take much to get them out of the way, or to drop their scores dramatically. Plus, enough kids were disappearing that she was sure that basically all of their class would succeed at this point, just so they had enough initiates in general. As they walked Cassidy pulled out one of her earphones and slipped it into one ear, her music already playing quietly. It wasn't that she hated Ghost and Bloom's conversation, but she often found that music kept her calm and steady, reasonable and thoughtful, quick on her feet and mind. She was pretty good at acting like it wasn't in her ears anyway. It didn't take long till they were at the rock climbing place and Cas realized as she got there that she was not in the right attire. She was wearing skinny black jeans and a long sleeve off the shoulder shirt. As Bloom talked to Ghost about what they were going to do, Cassidy left them for a second and disappeared off in another direction. Having not brought any extra clothes herself, she was fairly sure she would be able to find some if she looked in the right place.

As expected, there was an array of lost clothing that was compiled near the front desk, Cassidy grabbed two decent looking pieces that would fit her and still look good. A black tank top that was tight, fitting and long, and leggings that when she tried on were surprisingly well fitted to her physique. She paid for the rock climbing shoes and stored her clothes and shoes in a locker that was near the entrance. Walking back to Bloom and Ghost she watched as they looked at her outfit. "I wasn't really dressed for this, but thankfully they had a pile of untaken clothes I could borrow." She said, having no intention of necessarily giving them back. As Bloom and Ghost went to get their shoes and everything, Cassidy took the time to stretch out her body. She found an empty spot on the padded floors and began to do slow and methodical stretches. It came so naturally to her that she only realized part way through that she was doing a routine. As she stretched she winced a number of times for multiple pains that were still hindering on her body. Her shoulder stung with most arm movements, the tattoo on it still having residual pain. She hoped that rock climbing wouldn't irritate it so badly as to do any harm or slow the recovery. Her entire torso and arms were still a little sore from her sparring with Ghost yesterday as well. Altogether today wasn't the perfect day to go rock climbing, but Cassidy had to admit that she was excited, it had been so long that she didn't even care that she was in a bit of pain already. Rock climbing was a passion she had had ever since going to Erudite, even before then. She thought back as she stretched, back to when she lived on the streets of the factionless areas. She had always been a climber. Griffon had always been too stocky and too heavy set to be any good at it, he was good at standing ground and catching or hoisting things, but Cassidy was nimble and lithe, she was easy to catch and throw. Many times Griffon would throw her up, she would clamber up a fire escape, or a wall, or a cliffside, and then she would jump back down safely into his arms. Of course she had memories of doing the same things with her parents, but with them she didn't feel the safety and security that she felt with Griffon's arms. No, instead she felt control, servitude, slavery, pain and abuse with them. That's why she didn't want Griffon to meet them today. A sigh poured out of her as she finished her stretching routine, and she looked up to see Bloom and Ghost approach, one of them asking why such a sigh. Cassidy quickly smiled. "Just realizing I need to stretch more. I wish I'd known this was here, I would have hit this place up ages ago." She said with a laugh. Bloom seemed surprised but happy when she saw that Cassidy was quite comfortable here and seemed to know what to do. There was a little bit of silence as it seemed they were figuring out what to do. "I'm just gonna do some free climbing for now." Cassidy finally said, motioning to the free climbing wall that was not too far away from the main area.

Leaving Bloom and Ghost to their date, Cassidy almost pranced over to the free climbing area, and she looked around for some chalk to rub on her hands. There were bags you could buy from the counter, but Cassidy had already bought the shoes and knew she would find one down here. Seeing one that was sitting somewhere untaken, obviously by someone's stuff where they'd popped off somewhere for a moment, Cassidy walked over and easily took it, walking off to an area and attaching it to her equipment. It was indistinguishable from any of the others, and she had replaced it with an empty bag that she had found in the bin. Simple. Childs play. She did find a twinge of delight as she watched the owner come over and be confused to why their bag was empty, having to eventually go to the counter to get more. She knew that was cruel, but she couldn't help but find it funny. Cassidy moved to the wall, looking for a reasonably mid-difficulty area to start with. She didn't want to start too hard, but also didn't feel like starting easy. Finally finding one that looked suitable she chalked up her hands and got to climbing. As soon as she was on the wall she felt an immense amount of pleasure shiver up her body. Her body craved this, like it hadn't had this full body movement and strength used in a while. Of course some of it complained, especially her shoulder where the tattoo sat, but otherwise it was simply happy at the exercise. As she climbed, it freed her mind even more to think about her parents. Griffon wanted to meet them and Cassidy had promised that she would help him. She had made most of the plan already. That was why she had visited the Nest. Draven and Cheglock were going to help her tonight. Even now she knew they were contacting her parents, telling them that someone needed to meet them at a location that Cassidy had given them to tell. But it wouldn't be Griffon, or at least... her parents wouldn't know that it would be Griffon. Cassidy would be there to meet them, but unbeknownst to them it would also be Griffon. They would do this together yet at the same time separate. She would keep Griffon's identity safe. She wanted her parents to believe that only one of them was alive, and she wanted them to think it was only her.Griffon no longer had the ability to safely escape and keep away from them, he hadn't had that ability in a long while and the only reason he could was because he'd been safe in Abnegation and then Cas had kept him safe herself. Dauntless had been a dangerous place to come, it was the faction her father had come from, but nevertheless they'd managed so far. To her knowledge her parents had no idea either of them were alive. As Cassidy neared the end of her climb, hanging from the top for a few seconds before making her way back down, dropping once she got to a safe height, she mentally prepared herself for tonight. She would need to take some Lull. That would help. She looked around, seeing Ghost and Bloom she walked over. "How's it going?" She asked, a pleasant enough smile on her face as she watched the two.

Aya.

Aya listened as she sketched the gentle rhythmic sounds filled her with ease. Their moments of silence were not awkward just simply how they were. She raised an eyebrow as he described his testing with being a herd of cows and dogs. “That certainly seems a bit unfair that they both were your fears. Though I guess it evened out a little with how strong Briony’s fear of dogs is.”she said quietly. It wasn’t a secret that Briony could barely even touch Honey who everyone knew was as sweet as can be. A smile graced her lips as she continued listening then she held in her excitement about him possibly regaining his memory or the ability of simply remembering stuff. She did not want to show him how much that would make her happy. It was already hard enough on Griffon wanting that possibility back himself let alone seeing Aya wishing for it as well. The design was coming along well or the portrait was coming along well. This sketchbook was filled with all the faces of those she knew. Aya glanced at Griffon once more taking in his appearance wanting to make sure she was getting it correctly onto the paper.

“It was a gorgeous flower. It went well with something I have been wanting so I thought it would be a perfect mix of our artwork.”Aya said warmly. Then she moved over to him simply moving her practice shorts up just a bit to show him her tattoo since it was upon her thigh. She thought about it then went over to her sketchbook tearing out the sketch of the design. “Here you can have this. I already have the design with me forever.”she said gently handing it over to him. She had watched as he stared hard at her tattoo so she knew that he was more than likely trying to form it into his mind so he would remember it. Had it been anyone else staring at her thigh she would have taken it as they were a pervert yet with Griffon she knew his innocence outweighed any thoughts that might be inappropriate. When he agreed to wanting to hang out more she thought of all the places they could go. He continued a few moments later about not wanting their activities to involve swimming. “Ok I will make sure that there is no swimming.”she said soothingly giving his hand a squeeze. “How about we go see a movie or get some dinner?”she asked him. She thought those would be good options for them.

Bloom

Mood: Eased

Location: Rock Climbing Gym

Interactions: Ghost, Cas

During the short walk through the twisting and turning streets of Dauntless Bloom listened to Cassidy and Ghost as they spoke and did her best to contribute and help to fill any silence that awkwardly occurred. This certainly wasn’t a group one might expect to be seen together, especially if someone were to assume Bloom and Ghost might be at odds since she replaced him. The brunette was honestly a bit relieved that Ghost didn’t seem to hold it against her that she had taken his job. It hadn’t been her choice but rather a position bestowed upon her when he was rather unceremoniously fired. Had Ghost held any ill will towards her over the promotion Bloom would have felt off about it since she knew Charlie and he were so close. She would never want to be too greatly at odds with someone her best friend was in a relationship with. By the way Ghost had carefully approached the topic of how she was handling her new position Bloom had the gut feeling that his interest was genuine but not malicious. If some part of him wanted to see her fail it hadn’t shown itself yet and she had been about to answer him honestly when he asked but knew it was better to avoid the subject in front of an initiate. While she knew Cassidy was more than capable of handling serious conversations Bloom truly believes that whatever her answer might have been shouldn’t have to weigh on the young woman’s shoulders. Bloom had to admit that she didn’t know Cas all too well so she was unsure if the young transfer was one to take on guilt or stress for things out of her control. Bloom didn’t hate being in charge, but what she did hate was that she was expected to encourage these children to do their best and then report any truly exemplary behavior for suspicion of divergency. That was one of her main problems among a few others but she of course wouldn’t have shared that part out loud to anyone.

As the trio reached the climbing gym Bloom guided Ghost over to the lockers and rental area so he could get the shoes he would need. “I’ll be right back. You can change in the locker room to the right if you have a change of clothes, if not there is a lost and found or you could buy some gym merch.” She suggested as she realized he might not have brought the proper clothes for the climb since this was a spur-of-the-moment decision. While she was more than capable of scaling the side of a building while in heels she didn’t know how well Ghost would do in his street clothes seeing as he was a novice. Trusting that Ghost would be able to find his way given the directions she departed into the left locker room where she made her way over to the locker she rented out with her membership. Pulling off her current outfit Bloom traded her crop top and jeans for a pair of red and black workout leggings and a dark cherry red sports bra that was only a few shades darker than the streaks of red in her hair. Once she was dressed and had her climbing shoes on Bloom threw her hair up in a high ponytail with the hair along the top of her head braided to keep it out of her face. Putting her regular clothes into her locker and sealing it shot with the combo lock placed back on the loop Bloom made her way out of the locker room to find Ghost wandering out of his locker room a few seconds later. It seemed the young man had been able to find himself a set of climbing clothes and Bloom gave him a wink, “You clean up nicely.” She chuckled playfully towards him. “Come on, I’ll find us a spot to get started.” She jerked her head for him to follow her and smiled as she walked. “Don’t be too offended but I think it would be best for us to start you off with bouldering. It keeps you close to the ground so you won’t have to worry about ropes or harnesses yet plus I will be able to spot you.” Her tone was that of a friend but also laced with the certainty of a trained professional. “It is the best way for you to build your strength and balance so you’ll know what to do and what your body can handle in later climbs.”

As they approached the mats and the low bouldering walls the duo passed by a familiar face stretching out to the side. Bloom was delighted to see the spark that had ignited in Cas’s dark eyes just by being in the climbing gym. She hadn’t known that the young woman was a climber and thus hadn’t thought to tell her about this place but now that Cas knew she hoped to see her here from time to time. “If you ever need a belayer let me know, I’m here as often as I can be.” She offered to the young woman knowing it could be a great way for the two of them to get to know each other a little bit better. “Enjoy your free climb, we are going to be bouldering for now so Ghost can learn the tricks of the trade,” Bloom informed as she glanced over at Ghost with an encouraging smile. She honestly couldn’t tell what he was thinking at the moment and hoped he wouldn’t hate her for starting him out so close to the ground but bouldering was a valuable skill to everyone from novices to professionals. Reaching into a bucket as they found an open set of curved walls Bloom pulled out a little pouch covered in bright white chalk. “Here, pat that on the inside of your hands. It will help to make sure your sweat doesn’t cause you to slip.” She instructed as she tossed the chalk bag towards Ghost who had until that point been examining the wall.

Ghost // Male // Age 18 // Officially Unemployed // Erudite to Dauntless

The rock climbing gym was a symphony of organized chaos. Walls dotted with a rainbow of hand- and footholds soared to the ceiling, occasionally bending at gravity-defying angles like refracted light. Black-clad figures attached to ropes wove along the walls with various levels of agility. On the ground beneath each of them stood a human anchor, loosening and tightening the ropes in a steady cadence. In a secluded corner stood an under-the-sea-themed children’s climb, featuring colorful orcas and eels and sharks studded with synthetic stones. Despite its vibrant artwork, the children’s climb did little to hold the attention of its target audience, evidenced by the half-dozen children chasing each other around the unoccupied middle of the room, squealing whenever someone was tagged.
As Bloom turned to Ghost and explained his options for acquiring more athletic clothes, Cassidy wordlessly broke away from their side, beelining for a long business counter in front of a wall of televisions displaying numerous sporting matches. It was clear that Ghost was in the presence of not one but two experienced climbers. Neither of whom were originally from Dauntless, he reminded himself. It was unfair that even the transfers to Dauntless tended to be athletically inclined, but such was life. Whereas the most physical activity Ghost had ever done for fun were two seasons of ice hockey and the minimum effort needed to play a mean game of ping-pong. Whatever the case, the allure of physical labor had definitely not been the turning point in his decision to join Dauntless. Rather, it had been a necessary sacrifice for control over his life, far away from the Factionless gangs who felt threatened by a freelance thief.
Bloom spoke briskly, professionally. In the same sort of tone that she used to instruct the initiates, Ghost realized with a smothered smile. He appreciated that an experienced climber had taken time out of her day to show him the ropes—haha—but at the same time it was clear that Bloom didn’t view him as a friend. Yet. Ghost was determined to grow on her like mold, if that was what it took. As Bloom spun and marched off toward the women’s locker room, he watched her go, flummoxed by this latest thought. Usually he didn’t care whether people liked him, so long as they respected him, and he definitely didn’t want them to love him. But Bloom? Well, Ghost couldn’t think of any reason why he wouldn’t want her to like him. She was knowledgeable and strong and kind, three traits that rarely coexisted. As ex-coworkers, he was under no further obligation to see her unless he sought her out, meaning that they could be cordial but still maintain a comfortable distance. That must have been it, right?
Ghost watched the light ripple off Bloom’s curtain of chestnut hair until she turned the corner to the locker room and vanished. The sudden emptiness in his line of sight jolted him from his reverie. Remembering what she had said about the lost and found, Ghost pivoted and started in the direction that he had last seen Cassidy. Four years of living on Baneberry had discouraged him from making superfluous purchases when cheaper options were available, especially when he didn’t know whether he would ever go rock climbing again. So Ghost crossed the room to a long and low plastic bin that boasted an assortment of abandoned clothes. Most of these were either women’s leggings and tube tops, or male garments that were several sizes too big for him. Finally, just as panic was beginning to set in that he’d be forced to climb in his street clothes—what would Bloom think?—or splurge on something overpriced and not his style, near the bottom of the bin was something suitable. Gold mesh shorts bearing a tiger’s eye emblem and a plain cotton tank top. The logo on the shorts led him to believe that they once belonged to a student athlete, but Ghost didn’t care. If he shaved, he’d be indistinguishable from a group of schoolboys.
In the men’s locker room, he shucked off his plain blue sweater and checkered pants, feeling fortunate that he’d dressed somewhat preppy today and with much less of his typical flash. Between the Erudite style and their smallish size, Ghost had little faith that his clothes would be targets of theft, which was good when he examined the lock of the locker he’d rented and decided that it would be ridiculously easy to break into. It was only when he was folding his clothes for storage that a flash of white protruding from the waistband of his pants caught his eye. Seriously hoping that someone hadn’t stuck a “kick me” sign onto him when he wasn’t looking, his hand closed on a soft and airy texture: a long white feather.
Ghost scowled. He hadn’t been outside the compound at all today, let alone rolling around in a bird’s nest. Meaning that someone had placed the feather there… He frowned. Ghost suddenly felt stupid for believing that Cassidy stumbling into his side had been an honest lack of coordination. I bet she’s not at all clumsy on the rock wall, that little minx, he thought, crumpling the feather in a fist. He leafed through his wallet, ensuring that all his cards and notes were still there. The fact that Cassidy could plant something on him undetected meant that there was a good likelihood that she could take something from him undetected. Yet the only thing out of place had been the feather. “But… why?” Ghost muttered to himself as he exited the locker room. What did Cassidy have to gain from planting a feather on his person, except for maybe trying to convey a message? And then, what kind of message did she have for Ghost that she wanted to keep secret from Bloom?
When he emerged onto the gym floor, he was half-convinced that Cassidy planting the feather on him was just a figment of his imagination, and there wasn’t a more mundane explanation for the feather’s appearance. Whatever the case, trying to find clandestine meaning in a feather was an activity in which only fortune tellers and the clinically insane dabbled. As an abnormal person who liked to hide the full extent of his abnormality from others, Ghost was forced to face the conclusion that his current thoughts were not normal people thoughts, and so he resolved not to think about the feather anymore. Unless given explicit reason to.
A gust of frigid air enveloped him, rustling his bangs and making the hair on his arms stand upright. Ghost fought the urge to shiver and hug himself, already missing the downy warmth of his sweater. Although he had no doubt that a few minutes of climbing would change that. He rounded the business counter and immediately forgot his discomfort when his gaze landed on Bloom. With her torso clad in only a candy apple-red sports bra, her bare stomach was a pale panel of muscle, and her usual confident stride was almost provocative, a ponytail swishing in time with her steps. She wore black-and-red leggings that molded to her legs like oil, displaying the elegant contours of her thighs. Her seafoam eyes twinkled with mischief as she complimented Ghost’s appearance. Given his haphazard, juvenile attire, he wasn’t sure whether she was being sarcastic, but he found himself too distracted to think very hard on it.
“Only half as nicely as you,” he replied silkily, dragging his eyes up to hers with a conspicuous sliver of effort. A pirate’s smile played on his lips. “You outshine me like the sun, Bloom darling, but I don’t need to state the obvious.” She chuckled at his flattery, and as he followed her to the rock climbing wall, Ghost spent the better part of a minute wondering whether her laugh was genuine or forced politeness. He almost didn’t notice when they passed Cassidy, because she was already near the very top of her wall. That didn’t take long, Ghost noted, a tad impressed. When Cassidy had split from Bloom and him upon arrival, he hadn’t known whether to take her show of confidence as that of a truly skilled climber or just misguided bravado. But as she scuttled along the wall like a spider, Ghost knew it to be the former. A stray thought of the feather flashed across his mind before he could reign it in. But he didn’t linger on it, as the tattoo threading along the milky indentation of Bloom’s spine was entrancing.
She stopped in front of a short wall that had bigger footholds than most of the other walls. Ghost listened intently as Bloom explained the concept of bouldering; he’d heard of the sport before but hadn’t been aware of how it differed from rock climbing. He was a little relieved not to have to strap into a harness. Having never donned one before, Ghost would’ve had no idea how to put it on, and he imagined Bloom securing it for him as a slightly mortifying experience. “No worries, I think you keeping low expectations where I’m concerned is a healthy move for the both of us. I’ve been told I have a penchant for disappointing others in a limitless multitude of ways,” he chirped with false optimism. Undeterred by his self-deprecating humor, Bloom reached into a bucket at the base of the wall and withdrew a lumpy white pouch. Informing Ghost to rub the chalk on his hands, she passed it to him. Their fingers brushed, just for an instant, and a shiver walked up Ghost’s forearm. Ignoring the sensation, he turned the small bag over in his hands until a spectral membrane coated them, making his palms feel coarse.
Bloom stepped back from the wall and swept her hands in a wide gesture, indicating that the stage was Ghost’s. His heartbeat ticked up as he turned to regard the wall, and his mouth slanted into one corner. Oh, how he adored a new challenge, especially when there were no external variables, and his own ability was the only thing that mattered. The sky was the limit. Well, actually the limit appears to be roughly five yards, he thought as he laid hands on the stout bouldering wall and hoisted himself up to a higher platform.
Ghost immediately noticed the strain in his forearms. To counteract it, he pushed with his legs liberally, trying to generate momentum to carry him up the wall so that he could conserve energy. A whole new kind of tingle from that which had sparked between Bloom and him built in his muscles like a wave of pressure. Strangely enough, Ghost wasn’t particularly winded and had yet to break a sweat when he reached the top of the wall, but his arms were trembling. Triumph that he’d made it to the top warred with relief that the wall was short enough that he could just jump down. He had a body that was conducive to cardio, not strength training, and although climbing had been instrumental to some of the break-ins he’d executed in the past, that kind of climbing had been more of a parkour exercise and less of an endurance test.
He dangled from the wall for a moment and then let himself drop. When he spun to face Bloom, he felt flushed, as if he’d been sitting too close to a stove. To his surprise, there were two girls greeting him, not one; Cassidy had materialized beside Bloom in the interval that Ghost had been climbing. Which made sense, because she’d been finishing her first climb just as he’d been starting his. “I didn’t realize I had an audience,” Ghost said with a cocky smile, trying to conceal his breathlessness. “That was fun enough, but I’m ready for a real challenge. If Bloom approves, wanna race to the top of the next wall, Cassidy?” He flashed a wink at her in a brazen show of confidence. He didn’t expect to win—in fact, given Cassidy’s competence at the sport, he would have been surprised to do so—but Ghost had always been a sucker for competition. He found that he could tap into reservoirs of energy he never knew he had when an adversary was present. It drove him to try harder, and even when he lost, usually he was able to learn something new to apply to future battles.

Griffon || 18 17 || Initiate || Abnegation Transfer

Griffon's face blushed a cherry red as Aya told him why she picked the flowers and gave him the sketch she had done using his flower sketch. He held it in his hands and looked at it, marvelling at how she had used his picture and then added her own beautiful images along with it. His eyes trailed from the picture to her thigh, looking at the tattoo which now only slightly had red around, he scanned every line, noticing how well the tattoist had copied the work and done a marvelous job. He desperately wanted to remember this, he had never had someone be so genuinely interested in his drawings before. Fable and Cas had always shown interest in them, loving them, pinning them to their walls and keeping them whenever he gave them a picture. But Aya was the first person who Griffon had known who wasn't a family member that had shown so much interest. He felt like he knew Aya so well already, and that was with him having a memory problem! He felt like they had so much in common, so much they could do together. It took a while for Griffon to realize he had been analysing the tattoo and staring at Aya's thigh for a while, and he quickly took his eyes away and tucked the sketch into his vest, folding it gently and making sure it was safe. He wanted to give something to Aya now, but wasn't sure what she would like the most. As they sat for a little while longer he began to rifle through his journal, trying to find a picture that would be worth giving to Aya. One that she might appreciate and like. He found himself desiring to draw one up for her right now, but knew that he would want to spend time on it. He didn't want to give her something that wasn't amazing. As if by a miracle, he flipped a page in the journal and his eyes suddenly lit up as he felt he might recall something, a memory of drawing this for someone... He looked up at Aya and back down at the page. Was it Aya? The drawing reminded him of her, and he wondered... had he already had the desire to draw her something and had done this then? Or was that his memory playing tricks on him because that's what he wanted to do now? He felt nervous as he looked at it, fingers twitching as he wanted to tear it out and give it to her. What would she say? He tore it out slowly, watching as Aya looked to him in curiosity, and handed it to her. "I... I think I drew this for you? I... I... I'm not sure but... when I look at it, it makes me think of you." He finally said, watching her face before turning his vision away, a little nervous to what her reaction would be. The picture was of pink and white lilies in a vase. It wasn't amazingly done, Griffon wasn't the most skilled pencil drawer out there, but he had decent talent and it had turned out rather nice. He couldn't explain why he thought he had made it for Aya. Maybe she had mentioned liking lilies? Maybe she just looked like a lily to him? Maybe it was completely unrelated and his memory was wrong. But here it was, now in Aya's hands for what she wanted to do with it.

As Aya held his hand and squeezed it, Griffon blushed again. Aya was so sweet and thoughtful to him and what he wanted or didn't want. As she made her suggestions Griffon thought about both of them seriously. "A movie sounds interesting although..." He trailed off for a second, worried that in the movie he would have a lapse of memory at any point and not know what was going on. But as he felt Aya's hand in his, and as he looked at her, her dark hair black hair illuminating her pale skin and striking blue eyes, he realized how much he would actually want to spend time with Aya. The idea of being able to spend prolonged time with her, even if it was just watching a movie that he wouldn't remember, he would do anything to spend time with Aya. Smiling he finished his sentence with much more confidence and assurity. "I would love to watch a movie with you, then we could get dinner afterwards?" He asked. Griffon couldn't tell if Aya was blushing, and that was probably because he was certain he was. As they packed away their drawings he saw a glimpse of her sketch. Was that... a sketch of him? He felt a delightful shiver crawl up his spine. How he wished he could remember things more, how he wished he could get over this amnesia block that had come on his life, and the memory problems his brain had now due to his many surgeries and injuries. He felt a small but significant surge of anger at the car that had hit him, at the disease that he had where he couldn't feel pain, and the infection that had caused him so much problems. Every memory he had was like it was shrouded in a fog or mist, it all felt heavy, and if he tried to go back through his memories it was like swimming through goo, so thick and hard to get through. Things got lost, things disappeared, things took forever to come up, and there were somethings that were so distorted he couldn't tell up from down. Why did this make him angry? He looked at Aya. It was because he wanted nothing more than to spend time with Aya and give her everything she desired. But he knew that couldn't be possible with all these things wrong... But it wouldn't stop him from trying. He would give her as much as he could. As they finally finished packing up they headed downstairs and towards the cinema. Griffon began to try figuring out what it would be like to see a movie. It was when they were actually at the cinema that Aya finally turned to him, asking him if he'd ever been to a cinema before. "No... I've only seen movies at school. Abnegation didn't like these sort of things so I never saw any...." He looked around almost in awe, so many bright and colourful posters, the sound of arcade machines and the smell of popcorn.

Aya let Griffon peruse the posters for a bit, and after a few minutes she asked him what he wanted to see. "I... I have no idea..." He laughed nervously. Aya finally suggested they just see whatever was currently showing, and have a surprise. Griffon nodded, his brown eyes wide with this new information and new experience. THey walked up to the reception area and Aya did all of the speaking, only asking Griffon if he wanted popcorn. "Sure, if that's okay." He added. "Did you want me to pay? I'm not sure I brought my..." Before he could even mention the word wallet Aya had cut him off, saying it was her pleasure to do this. Griffon took the carton of pop corn and the two headed to the right theater to sit down. Because they were so late they had a seat that was in a random location, but nonetheless it had a good view of the screen. They sat down right as the beginning was playing. The screen was sobig that Griffon wasn't sure where to look at first, and the volume was so loud he had to quiet his hearing aids so that it wasn't hurting his ears. He was grateful that they had working batteries, knowing ithis would have been hard to watch without any hearing aids. Aya opened the popcorn as they sat there watching, and Griffon only realised she was offering him some after a few minutes of her asking, as he had been sucked into the movie. He was surprised at how interesting a movie could be even when you weren 't aware of the premise. He apologized to Aya for not hearing her, and grabbed a handful of popcorn, popping one into his mouth to taste it. Griffon's eyes widened, having expected to taste a flavourless popcorn he was pleasantly and shockingly surprised when this buttery salty flavour erupted in his mouth. "What do they put in this?" He asked, a little too loudly as someone behind them yelled over for him to shush. Griffon wilted slightly at the persons aggression, and Aya must have noticed, as she placed a hand over his and squeezed, a familiar feeling at this point. He expected her hand to move away at this point but it hovered near his, not quite holding hands but not quite apart either. Griffon felt a skip in his heart and he gently turned his hand around, meaning that Aya's was now resting in his own. For a moment it was stiff and awkward, maybe a tad clammy, but then they relaxed and lightly held hands as they watched the movie, ever so slightly squeezing or interlocking fingers during exciting or sad moments.

Fable

Mood: Happy

Location: Out and About

Interactions: Chris

As Chris’s eyes stared calmly down at her Fable felt as though she were floating away in the ocean of his gaze. For so much of her life, the person she was presented to be wasn’t really who she was at all. Her mother held her hostage in their bathroom and forced her head into the sink with threats from her father if the dye didn’t come out right. She was never allowed to leave the house without hiding her eyes with brown contact lenses that hid their natural color. She was shamed for being the unique individual she was, she was forced into submission, no one could see the way she stood out or she would shame her family. It took her a long time, more than she cared to admit, for her to find herself and make her stand, and even when she did Fable felt the person people saw still wasn’t her. Under Chris’s tempest gaze however she could feel that he was truly seeing her, he was looking at her and seeing all that she had worked so hard to become. It felt almost mutual in a way as she looked at him and noticed the tenseness he had once held in his jaw and shoulder had mostly vanished, the dark shadows that sat in his eyes were clear now. Chris was not the same man he had been a week ago, he was changing just like she was and Fable hoped that such change would only bring the best for both of them. She realized after several seconds or minutes, she couldn’t tell, that he had agreed to the idea of smoothies and together they naturally walked side by side down the hall and out into the streets of the Dauntless complex.

With her hands in her pockets, Fable passed through the door that Chris was kind enough to hold for her and gave him a soft “Thanks,” before the duo crossed the street. They walked for several minutes in silence, both seeming to be caught up in their own thoughts. Fable almost missed the way Chris’s shoulders rolled as she had been looking at the shops they passed a second earlier. She had just been turning to look at a dog across the street when the movement caught her sight and she instantly worried something was bugging him. “Are you okay? Is your shoulder bugging you?” She inquired and hoped he hadn’t done anything reckless to injure himself. It had been a week since the fight and she didn’t remember him getting hurt on either shoulder but then again everything had happened so fast. Could he have gotten into another fight since then? She didn’t know but she also doubted that he had since no one had mentioned anything like that and if Dauntless was great at one thing other than fighting it was gossip. Hearing his response to her question she felt a bit at ease to know he wasn’t hurt but at the same time Fable was hesitant to answer his question. “I think…” Her brow furrowed for a moment as she truly turned the question over and over in her mind, trying her best to get the right words out. “You know who you are and where you are at in your life. From what I know about you Chris you wouldn’t make such a decision without giving it proper thought so maybe it was the best decision you could make at that time. Your thoughts on it might change today, tomorrow, maybe even next year but that doesn’t mean past you made a mistake.” She pointed out and worried she sounded too deep with her thoughts, too much like a self-help book.

As they reached the brightly lit and colorful smoothie shop Fable had stumbled across during the start of initiation Chris once again held the door for her as they entered and she thanked him again. Once inside the duo stood to the side looking up at the massive menu and Fable smiled when Chris seemed to enjoy the variation presented on the multiple hanging boards. “Griff would like it here too I think.” She agreed as the blonde mentioned Aubrey and how she might have a fondness for the place. Her brow quirked in surprise when Chris told her to pick his order for him. She hadn’t been expecting that but decided it could be fun to rise to the challenge and so she gave him a smile, a nod, and stepped forward. “I’ll make it a surprise then.” She chuckled and walked over to order from the counter. For herself, she ordered a pineapple, mango, and orange smoothie, and for Chris, she decided to order a blueberry, strawberry, and acai smoothie. As they moved over towards the register she waved for Chris to come with her since the secret order had now been placed. “What? You don’t have to.” She insisted when he announced he would be paying for the both of them. Chris assured her that he didn’t mind and Fable decided to drop it because she didn’t want to seem rude for refusing his act of kindness. It was hard for her at times to remember Chris was part of the Dauntless elite when he acted so down to earth. She never thought of him differently from the others in regards to status but was sometimes reminded that he was in fact the son of Obadiah Parks, the man she helped to kidnap a few weeks prior. The thought made her flinch as she stood beside Chris and instantly she blamed it on a brain freeze as she had luckily been sipping at her smoothie. She watched with hope glittering in her gaze as Chris took a sip of his smoothie and couldn’t resist a wide genuine smile when his eyes sparked with joy after taking a sip. “You’re welcome! I am so glad you like it. If you hadn’t we could have of course switched.” She grinned and did her best to push the thoughts of Obadiah Parks to the back of her mind.

After a short discussion of what they would do next, Chris suggested going to the chasm and Fable was more than happy to agree. Despite being in Dauntless for a while now she still hadn’t spent much time at the famed chasm and knew it was a favored hangout for many of the Dauntless born initiates. She followed Chris as they drew closer to the dark pit in the heart of the Dauntless compound and when he went to sit on the edge she happily took the seat he offered her. They sat with their smoothies in hand and their feet dangling over the edge onto a plateau of rock that jutted out from the wall. Taking a short sip of her smoothie she glanced over at Chris when he asked her a question she surprisingly hadn’t really been asked before. “I guess in a way I did.” She replied and leaned back with one hand propping her up behind her. “Mostly I just knew I couldn’t stay in Abnegation. When I was too young to really understand I had other options I thought I would live and die in Abnegation because I was stuck there, but as I grew older and learned about the other factions I had my heart set on being in Dauntless. My parents were less than thrilled about that but I made sure they knew it was my choice to make, not theirs.” Fable explained and blinked as she remembered just how horrible things could get when she did anything to indicate she wasn’t Abnegation through and through. “What about you Christian Parks? Did you always want to stay in Dauntless? Ever dream of being a farmer or a scientist?” She inquired with a light-hearted tone and a playful glint in her eyes.

Nerdy. Nerdy.

Vex

Mood: Obedient

Location: Dr. Munro's Lab

Interactions: N/A

The frozen treat that tasted perfectly sweet vanished far too quickly for Vex’s liking and as she debated getting a second serving from the old man at the counter a ping on her phone notified her of a new message received. Whiskey gold eyes scanned the screen, the light of the phone turning her gaze more golden until the screen once again went dark. She had her orders, her next steps given to her by her masters back in Erudite. It seemed it was time she help test another project they had in the works, something they had been keeping secret even from her up until this point. Secrets such as these did not bother Vex though, she trusted those who she answered to in Erudite more than she trusted anyone else in her life. Dr. Munro had his reasons for his secrets, many might try to steal them if they found out, and while Vex would rather die than tell them she still understood that it was not her place to know everything but rather to simply do as she was told. Putting on her charming act once more Vex gave the old man behind the counter of the ice cream shop a wave goodbye and the sweetest smile which he returned in kind. As she departed the shop she couldn’t help but wonder if she should have possibly brought some ice cream for Dr. Munro and his lab assistant Bellatrix but soon can to the understanding that they would see that as her likely diverting from her orders which she would never want.

Like a shadow Vex moved through the Dauntless compound, never wanting to make it too well known when she was crossing into the Erudite section of the city. If others were to catch on to how frequently she visited Erudite they might grow suspicious of her and she couldn’t risk that. Having Ghost curious was one thing but she certainly didn’t want Dauntless officials to have a reason to question her loyalties, not when part of her mission was to rise in their ranks. It took Vex going through a few roundabout routes but eventually, the dark beauty was making her way up the back steps of Dr. Munro’s lab and entering through a secured door. Her movements were swift as she decided to take the stairs up to the floor where she would be meeting the doctor and his lab assistant, her stamina never really wavering in the slightest as she was built to endure and keep going without exhaustion for long periods of time. Once she was on the floor requested she made her way through the brightly lit halls with white walls and large glass windowed meeting rooms. Turning the corner she spotted a familiar dark-haired young woman waiting for her just outside a guarded door and without hesitation she approached.

“Anika,” Bellatrix greeted to which Vex stood at attention. “Dr. Munro will be pleased with your promptness.” The young woman praised a small smile forming on her lips. Vex did not reply or react as the girl spoke to her, all of her normal flair vanishing as she once again became nothing more than a sentient tool. A little under a year ago Bellatrix’s credentials had been added to Vex’s internal list of those to take orders from. She wasn’t extremely high on the list but Vex would treat her with the same attention and respect she would treat a board member or one of the other lesser scientists. “Come along then, it would be unwise to keep Ethan waiting.” The dark-haired girl summoned as she turned with her clipboard in hand and keyed a code into the wall panel before scanning her eye at the retinal lock. “Bellatrix LeFleur.” She announce clearly into a hidden microphone and a second later the door slid open. This was indeed one of the high-level security labs that Vex was all too familiar with from her time being created within one. A narrow hallway lay on the other side of the door with multiple cameras lining the hall to catch every single angle. At the end of the hall, the duo stopped once more and Bellatrix entered another series of codes, some typed and some verbal. Vex waited with unwavering patience as the lab assistant went about the security measures and once the second door opened she did not take a single step until Bellatrix had gone before her. Stepping through the doorway Vex’s gaze remained ahead of her to where she could see Dr. Munro standing on a catwalk that overlooked several unseen objects that gave off light from below. “Ethan, she’s here,” Bellatrix called out and the doctor looked up from the tablet he had been entering something into.

“Thank you, Bellatrix.” Dr. Munro nodded toward his assistant. “Prepare the table, we will being the procedure shortly.” He instructed without missing a beat, then his eyes turned to Vex. “Anika come stand by me, I need to show you something.” He motioned his hand to where he wished for her to stand and without hesitation, Vex began to make her way over to stand beside the brilliant man who made her. Once she had crossed onto the catwalk and taken her place at Dr. Munro’s side she looked at him and awaited further instruction. She did not have to wait long because as she met his eyes a slight tilt of his head indicated that he wanted her to look down at the hidden objects below. Carefully Vex turned and peered over the edge of the catwalk, her face illuminated by the soft glow of lights coming from several massive tubes. Looking each tube over Vex quickly made out the dark forms of people within and remembered being in a very similar setup at several points in her life. “Anika, I would like for you to meet your brothers and sisters. You are going to help us make sure they are ready for the mission ahead of them.”

Christian Parks || 16 || Initiate || Dauntlessborn

As Fable handed him the smoothie she had ordered him, Chris continued to watch as she moved with an amazing confidence and knowledge of herself. It never ceased to amaze him that someone who came from a faction that was made fun of for being so restrictive and for being so soul sucking, for taking all independence out of you could create such a wonderful and unique gem of a person like Fable. He thanked her for the drink and carried it with him as they got a spot to sit in and he took a sip, savouring the taste of the blueberry most of all, but enjoying all the other flavours. It was a good choice, and he made sure that Fable knew that he thought so. They drank it quite happily, enjoying the way the cool liquid trickled down his throat and soothed his chest. He would have to remember this spot, maybe come here more often. He wondered if smoothies would make Shay feel better when she had migraines, or whether they would make it worse. He'd have to ask her, but he wondered if she would also like to come here. As they sat at the chasm, listening to the sound of the water falling over rocks and hitting the floor down below, he listened as Fable talked about her experience. She was like one born in the wrong place, she was so clearly Dauntless material that Christian had no idea how she was able to be born to Abnegation parents. "That makes sense, you're so well suited for Dauntless I can't imagine you in Abnegation." He said, trying to picture it but mostly coming up blank, he tried to remember that day, when they all chose their faction and caught the train back to Dauntless. There were a few Abnegations in that crew, Fable, Griffon, Julian, a couple of others... He remembered how their grey outfits seemed so dull, so devoid of personality, and yet... He remembered now, Fable had stood out even then, as she had walked up and her hair had... Chris closed his eyes as he tried to remember the imagine more clearly. Maybe he remembered it wrong, but he seemed to recall her taking her hair out of a bun or braid and letting the fiery locks flow over that grey outfit with pride. He smiled as he opened his eyes to look at her beside him. "I'm glad you're here, it's been wonderful getting to know you and becoming friends." He said with certainty in his voice. As Fable turned the question around, Christian fell silent and looked at his feet which hung off the side of the chasm. Although he could - in his head - clearly see the day of initiation and remember certain moments, he realized that his own choice had not felt like his. "I... I never thought about it. I just... did what all my family had done." He said with a strange unsettling feeling. Fable must have not expected this answer, as the two seemed to fall quiet and nothing was said between them.

At first Chris didn't notice the awkward silence as he sat there and contemplated that fact. Thinking back he tried to think of if he'd ever considered which faction to go to. But he couldn't. His memories although not missing, not altered and not unhappy... they were all grey. All lifeless and didn't seem like his own. Even that day he could recall Indira reminding him over and over which bowl held the Dauntless coals, and that he better not make a mistake. He remembered his family all coming to watch him walk up, all expecting him to join them and cheering when he did so. He remembered not even looking at the other bowls, doing his part so fast that he forgot what the day was about. Now that he had his own mind about him, he wondered whether he would have preferred another faction. He maybe could have suffered in Abnegation or Amity, if they kept him drugged up, he was a perfectly suitable candidate at that point. But without the drugs he would have been exiled or worse if he had gotten angry at someone. In Erudite he would never have finished initiation, he would have failed and become factionless. Plus, he had no desire to be an Erudite. That left Dauntless and Candor. He knew that he suited Dauntless just fine, but he also knew that his aptitude test had eventually said Candor. It had been hard to get a proper test as Chris had gotten sick so many times in simulations that they often came back faulty and he had to take it over and over again. Eventually he had to suffer through his sickness to get it and then had to be hospitalized afterwards. He shivered as he thought about that, the feelings in his body that used to come from simulations. He was grateful that Charlie had helped to recreate the serum to work better with him, but he wondered if it was due to his body and allergies, or due to the drugs he took at the time, the drugs he no longer took. The drugs that made everything grey, including his emotions. Those drugs... had they muddled with the simulation? Were they the reason he had gotten Candor? Christian thought about it, and finally came to his own conclusion. No, he would have gotten Candor either way. He truly did value honesty above all else. As he sat there in contemplative silence, Fable put her hand on his arm and asked if he were okay again. He looked down at her, placing a similar hand on her knee and rubbing it softly with his thumb before placing his hand in between them, his fingers brushed up against her thigh. "I just realized how strange it was that I never thought about that choice. It just... seemed like Dauntless was my only option. It was where all my friends were, where my girlfriend was, where my family was, where my life was." He said, sighing softly as he realized that. "I don't know... I like Dauntless, I can't imagine living elsewhere you know? Plus, I wouldn't have met you if I'd gone somewhere else." He said honestly and genuinely, giving her a smile. He sat there for a little longer. "I actually got Candor during my aptitude test. When I told my family they all nodded as if they knew that it would be that way, but told me that didn't make a difference to them and that I was there brother. Dad seemed disappointed. I think he wanted me to get Dauntless like everyone else." He said.

The time seemed to slip by nicely as they sat together enjoying the chasm and enjoying the smoothies and each other's presence. He placed the empty smoothie cup to the side and considered what they could talk about or what they could do. He had plenty of time to spare, neither Briony or Aubrey had messaged him yet, and Vex hadn't gotten in contact with him so he was more than free. Contemplating his aptitude test being Candor, he had an urge to be extremely honest with Fable.
"Do you mind if I tell you something?" He asked, turning to her with his blue eyes gentle but serious. Fable nodded, her mismatched eyes mirroring that same seriousness, concern also in her body language. "I just... wanted to let you know that I'd love to train with you sometime. You have incredible natural talent and I... Well I have natural talent in somethings but you have finesse. I was thinking we'd make a great team. We could figure out fighting maneuvers. Maybe one day we could join a squad together and be partners. " He said, showing geniune interest in the idea. Fable seemed to laugh but obviously seemed quite honoured by the thought. Christian smiled. "If we were partners I'd need you to know that I... Well... I have an addiction." He said, suddenly dropping back to that serious tone again, back to the topic he had meant to bring up to begin with. "You see, ever since I was so young I can't quite remember I was given different treatments to try and help with my anger, my episodes. They ranged from pills and drips and serums... I don't know how long it took but eventually they figured out something that stopped the episodes and I used those chronically until recently." He looked off again, away from Fable. "Ghost introduced me to something new, that made me feel alive... made me feel like you, so bright and colourful and unique and individual." He looked back at Fable, his hand twitching with a desire to run through her fiery hair. "But... I took too much. I got too excited and... I can't stop. It's become a medical problem. " He said, watching as Fable's face took on a look of fear. "Damn that was a lot for me to say I'm sorry. That was inappropriate. I didn't need to spill all of that out." He laughed awkwardly, coughing slightly with a splutter as he turned away to cough into his sleeve, a harsh racking sound in his chest and a ripping sensation in his throat. He stayed turned away from Fable until he felt a hand on his shoulder, looking back at him. "Sorry..>" He said.

Phillip Parks || 19 || Soldier/Trainer || Dauntlessborn

Falling into the water with Briony was such a revitalising moment that Phillip felt like it lasted forever. He watched as they spun in the air, bodies pressed close, sweat merging with each other and hair cascading over each other's faces. It reminded him of what they were like at one point, a point that may never return, one that felt locked up yet so close at the same time. Finally their bodies hit the water and they sunk into the beautiful fresh clear water, letting go of each other. As they swam to the surface and crawled onto the bank, panting and laughing, Briony mentioned about how much she loved it and Phillip nodded. "See, a perfect way to de-stress. This is why I'm perfect Boyfriend material." He joked, taking a pose before dodging as Briony threw a well aimed rock at his crotch. "Hey, no damaging the goods" He said with a pouty smile, before charging at her like a wrestling bull. Briony had no time to react as she was wrestled to the ground by Phillip who was marginally bigger than her. The two rolled around like two children, before Phillip finally pinned Briony down and tickled her midriff. He watched as she wrought against him before finally bringing a knee up and getting him right in the groin. With a dramatic and gutteral cry he fell to the side like a wounded animal, coughing and spluttering as if he'd just been shot. Briony began to apologize through her giggles, but Phillip waved a hand dramatically. "Farewell fair maiden, for I must depart, thou hast wounded me and my future children greatly. Alas." He said with a flick of his hair as he rolled into the water, sinking to the bottom and staying there. It was a long couple of seconds before Briony must have rolled her eyes and dove in to get him. As she dragged him out of the water he pretended to be dead, limp and motionless he heard her voice call his name once in a joking manner, then another time with more concern. As the concern grew he opened one eyes and gestured to his mouth. "Mouth to mouth?" He mumbled, before quickly rolling as she went to hit him playfully. As he sat up, he saw how glowing and joyful Briony looked. "See, I'm a fun guy." He said, as if proving it to someone. Phillip lay down on his back and patted next to him. When Briony hesitated he crossed his heart. "No tickling, wrestling or playing dead." He promised. When she joined him he put his hands behind his head and looked up into the treeline. "Now tell me what's going on. Why have you got all your muscles tensed up?" He asked.

Whether Briony told him the truth, or told him something that was more comfortable than the truth, he knew it was somehow to do with Blair. He wasn't stupid. He had known both girls for a long time. He'd known the family a long time. In fact he'd flirted and tried to get with her older brothers a couple of times with little satisfaction. When he had been with Briony and Chris with Blair he had found it funny but not strange, yet he had noticed much about Briony during that time. The fact that she was so close to Blair was always the biggest thing he had figured out. He had thought Chris was close with Blair but nothing could match the twins in their closeness. It reminded him of Terra and Felicia, how they never left each others sides and how they had their backs everywhere they went. Blair and Briony were the same except... Blair wasn't around at the moment. Sure it had only been a few days, but... That was scary enough at the moment. Phillip knew for a fact that people were going missing and that most of them were turning up dead. He didn't want to scare Briony so he didn't want to tell her this. He sighed. "Initiation is tough enough, I'm sorry you're going through all of this by yourself. You know you can always come to me right? And Christian too." He said, knowing Christian would help Briony and Blair in a heartbeat. Briony nodded, knowing full well that she had their support. Phillip leaned on one elbow as he looked at Briony. She was a beautiful girl, and a part of him was sad that they weren't a thing any more. But at the same time it was a good idea, although they had been fun it hadn't been much else, they cared for each other like friends, not lovers. They loved each other like lovers at one point, but it had felt like a necessity, where as it didn't feel like that anymore. They were good friends, and hopefully always would be. Phillip glanced over at Honey who was still lying down peacefully taking a nap, she hadn't even gotten up to save Phillip when he was playfighting with Briony, understanding that it was a game, and remarkably self-controlled when it came to Briony. He looked back at the girl in question. "I think you have a good chance of coming near the top of initiation. Do you have a preferred job if you do? You could do security or training with me, then you'd never be rid of me." He said with a laugh.

As he listened to her speak, he let his body dry in the sun. It didn't bother him at all to be with a girl in his underwear, boxers. Neither did it bother him that Briony was only wearing a bra and underwear. He had already seen more of her body than that, and he was a respectful enough man to not be overtaken by lust when met with a beautiful barely dressed girl. He was glad Briony wasn't scared around him, that she was happy to wear her clothes however she liked with him. He thought about how happy he would be if he could see her grow up to find a decent boy to be with. As they lay there he let the silence rejuvenate him. He had just started a new job, one that he had come into very late, and had stolen off of Ghost. Although that hadn't been his intention it sure seemed that way to some. Ghost included, he imagined. He had enjoyed playing with him though, the little gamble, the back and forth. He had a pretty big thought that Ghost hated him right now, but he was working on him. As he thought about Ghost he turned to Briony. "So, what's your thoughts on Ghost? I tried to get to know him today but he's pretty cold. Is that his usual vibe or is he really exuberant otherwise?" He asked, eyes brown and wide. He listened as she spoke. "I think he hates me right now. But I'll get him, I'm sure I can charm him too you know? Just like I charmed everyone else." He joked, sitting up and pulling his shirt back on now that he was mostly dry. He watched Briony as she got dressed, before averting his eyes last minute as he realized that might make her uncomfortable now. It was hard to change directions in relationship, to go from being an item to being just friends again. "We're all good yeah?" He asked as he stood up with her. She looked at him funny, as if he'd just spilled mustard on his face. "I mean... we can stay good friends and have fun together like this all the time right? Because that's what I want. To stay friends." He said, putting a bit more emphasis on the word friends. He watched as she nodded in understanding, and smiled, affirming that they'd remain friends. Phillip resisted the urge to push her into the water at this point, and instead stretched his arms above his head and looked at his watch. "Do you have stuff on now? Or can we keep hanging out? This is fun, but it's your turn to choose what we do, if we keep hanging out." He said.

Thorn

Mood: Mixed

Location: Workshop

Interactions: Aubrey

The only thing that put Thorn even slightly at ease as he worked was knowing that Aubrey was on his couch rather than stumbling through the streets. The way the young woman had passed out and how shaky she had seemed when he finally got her to come to again had his gut clenched with worry. She could snap at him all she wanted, he was pretty used to that even if not from her, but that would never stop him from wanting to make sure she was not going to get worse. He understood that his lingering around her while she was struggling to get her barings could come off as annoying so when she demanded he sit or leave he never took it personally. Aubrey was a strong young woman who Thorn could easily picture as a Dauntless fighter or perhaps a shield maiden of old. It seemed that whatever stood in her way she would overcome or simply bust through and Thorn knew that could wear on a person. As she slept on the couch he checked on her often, sometimes getting up from his bench to walk over and sometimes just glancing over his shoulder. Thorn wanted to trust that she had been telling the truth about the sound of his work helping her so he tried to keep that in mind as he went along. As the hour passed a flicker of movement caught his good eye and he saw the blonde had risen from the couch and seemed to be standing on her own well enough. He was putting the finishing touches on her dagger but moved to help her when Aubrey insisted she was fine and just wanted to know where the bathroom was. “Oh, it’s down that hall.” He nodded to the narrow pathway towards the back of the workshop. “Here, I’ll walk you.” The young man offered and hopped up from his bench to make sure she found her way.

Aubrey insisted that she didn’t need him to stand watch outside the door and he knew very well that she would be pissed if he didn’t listen to her so once the young woman was in the bathroom Thorn returned to the dagger. He glanced at the clock as he worked and his heart began to squeeze with concern as more and more time passed. Had she fallen? Had she passed out again? He knew he would need to check on her soon and decided to do so once he finished polishing the newly engraved blade. Looking over the dagger in his hands Thorn hoped Aubrey would find comfort and joy in the weapon's new look. He had worked hard to make it a tribute to her as well as its previous owner. Just as he was placing the blade into a box to keep it safe and the scent of rich dark roast hit his nostrils and Thorn turned to see Aubrey holding out a coffee to him. “Thanks.” He nodded, a small smile painting itself upon his freckle-splashed face. Aubrey explained that she wasn’t able to find milk for the coffee and Thorn scratched his neck in embarrassment. “Sorry about that, I haven’t stocked this place up in a bit. If you are hungry I think I still have some peanut butter and crackers in the cabinet over there but that might be it.” He admitted as followed Aubrey to the couch where they sat and he slowly sipped at the burning coffee. “I’ll be sure to stock up for the future.” He added, making is clear that he intended to have her here again in the future. He had truly meant it when he told her that she was always welcome here. The workshop had been his safe place for many years, the place where no one could hurt him, he didn’t mind sharing that with Aubrey.

Wincing slightly as he took too much hot coffee into his mouth at once he almost missed Aubrey’s comment about his tattoos. “Thanks, that means a lot. I worried it might be too on the nose but I have never regretted it.” He admitted with a slight chuckle to his tone. As Aubrey brought up her back tattoo he tried his best to recall if he had ever seen it before. “I don’t believe that I have seen it. What is it of?” He inquired and listened patiently as she explained her desire to get thorns added to the tattoo but her hesitation due to Charlie already having thorns on hers. “I feel it is best to get what you feel drawn to. If you like thorns then get thorns. They have different meanings to everyone and you don’t have to get them done exactly the same.” He attempted to assure her and hoped she might find his thoughts on the matter helpful. It seemed that the coffee had done the trick because as the minutes passed Aubrey seemed to be bubbling with more and more energy. He almost choked when the blonde began talking about Charlie and himself. Coughing slightly and doing his best to swallow his steaming hot coffee Thorn listened and blinked tears from his eyes as his throat burned. “I uhhh…” He paused trying to process all she had just spat out about his and Charlie’s similar personalities and how they would have been a great couple if things were different. “I would just hope that no matter who she is with that she is happy.” He said after a few seconds of thinking. He had always had a great fondness for Charlie, ever since he was little, but she had always been out of reach and part of Thorn knew she was meant for so much more than him. Wanting to move on from the conversation as quickly as possible Thorn got to his feet and waved Aubrey to follow. “Yeah, I finished it while you were in the bathroom. Put the fresh polish on the blade and everything.” He informed her as he pulled it from the protective box he had placed it within. “Please tell me what you think and if you want anything changed I will do my best to fix it.” He swore as he waited patiently and hopefully for the reaction Aubrey would have upon seeing her sacred blade.

Nerdy. Nerdy.

Charlotte "Charlie" Stark || 20 || Medic || Dauntlessborn

Charlie was in no mood or desire to head away from the safety of Jacob's bar area anytime soon, and thus she didn't. Enjoying the warmth, the solitude and the complete security inside, she stayed curled up on the couch and after having a half-nap she pulled out a book and began to read. Time seemed to fly by, and soon enough Jacob popped his head back in to ask how she was doing and whether she needed them to get anyone. "No... thanks Jacob I've really appreciated just being back here. I think I'm fine, do you need me to leave?" She asked, a hint of worry coursing through her voice. Jacob shook his head and checked his watch. He then told her that she was welcome to stay all day and night but that eventually both he and Asher would be done for the day and the night shift would come in. Many Dauntless bars stayed open all night, but you could have much less waiting staff due to the lessened crowd, yet more security due to the higher statistic of fights and intoxication. Charlie thought about it for a second and weighed her options. She did not feel safe enough to leave on her own, but she didn't feel up to asking Asher or Jacob to come with her. Jeremy could still be hovering around just waiting for her, or else he might have sent others to do that job for him. She was still light headed and faint from her interaction with Jeremy and had no desire to see him again, in fact she believed that if she ran into him she might just pass out immediately. Maybe Jacob noticed the hesitation but regardless of why it was, Charlie felt an immense amount of relief when he told her to just keep hanging here and that he'd let her know when he and Asher would be leaving and she was free to stay whenever. Charlie shot him a grateful smile and continued to read her book and sip at the tea that Asher had brought out for her. Although the scent of alcohol was around, and it was not a pleasant scent for her, she found that it wasn't too unpleasant. She just kept trying to get her mind to think of Caspian rather than Jeremy. This made her sad, but not scared. She missed Caspian, she knew if he were around she could call him right now and he would come running to her rescue, he would save her. But he wasn't alive anymore, and so she couldn't rely on him. Yet now she had Ghost but... Charlie looked at her phone which sat next to her, she hadn't yet texted Ghost, she wasn't sure what to tell him. She didn't want to ask him to come get her, she wasn't even sure she wanted to tell him that she bumped into Jeremy at all. She had no idea what Ghost would do in that situation, he had once saved her from Jeremy's wrath for so long when he played the vengeful vigilante and scared Jeremy, but she somehow found it an uneasy feeling to call him for help now. She believed he was a good person, but at the same time she believed he lived for himself, that he would do things that benefited him and then would do what benefited others. She still didn't even know why they were together. What strange fate had put them together. She could see aspects of him that she had always liked but had never seen in a man before (other than Henry her father), but also traits in him that usually put her off... She couldn't see why or how he liked her, and she was definitely too scared to ask. She didn't want to know. She wanted to enjoy some semblance of happiness, and her interaction with Jeremy only solidified that. She wanted to spend as much time with Ghost as possible, her time with Henry, Alice and Caspian had all been cut shorter than she wanted, so she didn't want to waste time. She wanted to enjoy life as much as she could, and she did truly enjoy being with Ghost. She just didn't think she should, or maybe even could, ask him to come help her in this moment. Plus, she was currently safe, and in the safe hands of Jacob and Asher. Ghost may have been who she wanted to be with, but she knew that being with the Parks was a safe bet.

After a couple hours had passed she heard someone coming to the door and she put down her book as she yawned, having not realized so much time had gone past. To no surprise it was Jacob. "Hey Jacob, is everything alright?" She asked, her voice much steadier and her heart rate normal. Jacob nodded, and he held up his phone. "I was just on the phone with Pitera and she said she was going to go for afternoon tea with the girls, I mentioned you were here and she asked if you wanted to go with them?" Charlie's eyes widened at this thought and she found herself almost nodding without thinking. Although she had not had a large amount of friends growing up, she had always had a decent relationship with Pitera. Plus, with having good relations with the Parks family it meant she had seen a fair amount of Pitera. Even though Jacob was in his early thirties, Pitera was only in her late 20's and so got along well with Charlie. Plus, Charlie adored children, and she loved Joan and Hailey to bits, especially Hailey who was only 4. As she thought about it, she wondered whether Pitera had truly been the one to think of asking Charlie or whether Jacob had suggested it, she didn't want to pry but she had a sneaking suspicion that he might have. Jacob quickly put the phone back to his ear and told - Charlie suspected Pitera - that Charlie would happily join them. Once he hung up he checked his watch and yelled out for Asher. Charlie cringed at the yell, but also felt somewhat safe around it. Although loud voices were often triggering for Charlie, she could hear that there was no evil or animosity in Jacob's yell, it was a simple brotherly fondness in his yell, and a knowing relationship could be heard within. There was no abuse in it, and in fact Charlie had never heard or seen physical abuse from any of the boys. Not in their adulthood anyway. Once Asher had come running Jacob spoke to him quietly and Asher looked towards Charlie and nodded, taking off his apron and outfit and replacing his bar jacket with a fairly normal leather jacket. He walked over to Charlie as Jacob himself waved and walked somewhere else. "Here, I'm gonna take you to where they're going." He said, to Charlie's surprise. "I can go by myself." she said, although without much confidence. Asher waved her concern away as he began to lead her out of the bar and towards the outer complex. "It was basically my shift done anyway, all you did was let me finish a little early, and for that I'm grateful." He said with a laugh, a laugh so awkward and yet true that Charlie couldn't help but join in with. They spoke cheerfully as they walked, and Charlie made sure to walk very close to Asher, although she no longer held his arm as she had done when she escaped from Jeremy. Although she knew Asher and felt safe with him, she didn't touch anyone very often, even those she did love. It was usually very important if she did. Plus, Asher had asked her out before, and although nothing had ever come of it (she had said no very apologetically) and nothing had ever made it out that their friendship was awkward, it would always be slightly in Charlie's mind. As they neared the cafe that Pitera had told Jacob (and Jacob had told Asher) Charlie felt excitement bubble in her chest. She was so excited to see the girls. Of course she was happy to see Pitera but more than anything she was excited to see the girls.

Charlie and Asher both walked into a lovely little cafe that was commonly known, and it was only a few seconds that they'd walked in before two young voices cried out with glee and the pattering of feet were heard. Charlie and Asher both turned and running to them was 7 year old Joan and 4 year old Hailey. Both girls ran up to Asher and he bent down and scooped them up in his arms, giving them a tight squeeze and causing them to giggle madly. Charlie beamed with joy at watching the adorable girls interact with their uncle. As they were put down, the girls shyly but sweetly turned to Charlie and she bent down, offering her arms for a hug. Joan ran forward and hugged her tightly, and Charlie felt her heart skip with joy, and then Hailey burrowed her way into the embrace also. Something within Charlie made her want to cry, but she buried it away and ignored the feeling of grief that this gave her, and instead she simply laughed. "You girls are getting so big! And your hair is so long! You look so beautiful today." She said excitedly. Asher went over to give Pitera a hug but quickly said he would be heading off. The girls gave Asher another hug as Charlie went over to sit with Pitera. "Thank you for inviting me to come hang out, I didn't have much to do today, and I have really missed seeing you and the girls." Charlie expressed to Pitera. They both laughed as they watched Asher try to leave but the girls hand clung to his legs and weren't letting go, in fact Joan was attempting to climb him. Soon enough though he walked over with them and the girls were quickly convinced that getting a sweet treat was (in the moment) better than their uncle. Charlie and Pitera bid Asher goodbye and then Pitera went up to order something for herself and the girls, Charlie herself only ordered a rosehip tea. The girls were quiet for a while as they ate their treats, Joan having got a cream donut and Hailey having gotten a sprinkles covered ginger bread man. "How's the wedding plans? It's not too far away is it?" Charlie asked, seeing an immediate happy look in Pitera's eyes. The question immediately sparked a million conversations, and the two girls were chatting quite happily when another voice interrupted them. Immediately there was a joyful array of hellos as Charlie and Pitera greeted Brianna, Oscar's cousin and Pitera's soon to be Sister-in-law, and Sherrie, the girls cousin. Soon the small table seemed packed but yet Charlie felt not overwhelmed but instead fully content in this one moment. She was ignoring the pain in her wrist, which was hard to do when the girls so often took her hand to show her something, and yet she managed to get through the pain with a smile. The main conversation was of course to do with Jacob and Pitera's wedding, about how Hailey and Joan were going to look and what their roles would be, they shared pictures, and talked about the decorations and cakes and everything else. Charlie couldn't help but begin to wonder if she would ever have a wedding, and what she might like.

Rhysand(Rhys).

“Yeah Charlie’s fear didn’t scare me either other than the fact Shay collapsed during it inside the sim. That was more frightening than what was actually going on within the simulation itself.”Rhysand said with a nod as she talked about the fear situation testing. “It could be since I can’t see that working as what we would do in fear? Since I’m sure most of us weren’t bothered by whatever it was she had as fears.”he said his eyebrow raised hearing her talking about tornados and alligators. “I don’t know, I think I’d be pretty much hauling ass out of there if I witness a tornado whirling around flaming crocodiles.”he said with a shake of his head. Rhysand couldn’t help but chuckle.”I’m gonna go with about 5 flavors before they tell us we have to actually pick something.”he said with a grin. His gaze sweeping over all the flavors there were so many to pick from. It honestly was just nice getting to spend time with Randi. He had forgotten how easily he could just enjoy himself around her. Now that they were hanging out he could feel the ache of loss that he had felt while she was gone. As they asked for flavors he grinned at her choices.”Somehow I’m more surprised by those flavors.”he said with a smirk. After trying several different flavors and even smearing some onto Randi’s cheek Rhysand went with a coffee and vanilla mixture. He leads her over to a table.”Sooo what did you end up going with?”he asked since he had been busy ordering his own combination to hear what concoction she had picked for herself.

Once sitting he took a bite of his ice cream enjoying the flavor coating his tongue as he listened to Randi tell him about her flavors. Once she was finished his face became a bit more serious.”You have been doing okay right? There’s been a shit ton of crazy stuff happening lately and it has me worried. I’ve seen Briony looking anxious, same with Chris so I’m guessing Blair is still missing. Even though it’s only been three days we’ve had a ton of dead people showing up.”he murmured. “I don’t know what’s going on and I have no idea if any of it is connected but please make sure you are careful ok.”he said.”I’ve noticed it been other initates turning up dead and hell we even have missing instructors now.”He knew he didn’t really have the greatest right to tell her to be careful yet their current distance did not take away their past history together. He still cared deeply for her and that would never change no matter what happened between them. The thought of telling her about his divergent status echoed in his mind he hadn’t told anyone about it before. He wanted desperately to tell her yet what if it put her in danger and he certainly couldn’t tell her here.”Hey after this do you wanna go back to my place? My aunt just bought me all the latest movies so we could watch one of them and just relax at my place. You know I have that spare room there you can stay in if you want,”he said. He kept taking bites of his ice cream as the two of them chatted after her answer about if she wanted to come back to his place and hang out. He watched her eying his ice cream and smirked, holding up a spoonful to her.”Do you want to give it a taste?”he asked.

Briony swam over with him, the two of them crawling onto the bank before letting out some more laughs.”I will never not love doing that.''she said with a grin. Then she couldn’t help but snort hearing him say he was perfect boyfriend material.”Oh yes a right Prince Charming. You are down right everybody’s man.”she said before aiming a rock at his crotch as he struck a pose. He dodged out of the way and she laughed harder while getting up. All she heard was no damaging the goods before being taken down to the ground the two were wrestling about. Phillip being larger than her had the advantage of that and surprise so it didn’t take long before she was pinned under him. A fit of giggles filled the air as he tickled her midriff, her body wiggling trying to get away from the fingers. A moment later she was able to bring her knee up just enough to knee him right in the groin. She would have felt an ounce of pity had he not gone into such a dramatic gesture about it. Her giggles increased once more trying to apologize wondering if that would help yet she couldn’t get a word out before the laughs. “Phillip!”she said with a laugh as he waved his farewell giving a final few words before rolling into the water letting himself sink down. Briony watch him then shook her head as the seconds ticked by she moved over before diving into the water after him. She dragged him up and out of the water pulling him away from the edge. “Alright Phillip get up.”she said amused. She watched him still laying there limply.”Phillip!”she said this time a bit more of urgency was within her voice. When his eye peaked over and he asked for mouth to mouth she would lean in as if to do it before swatting at him playfully. “Idiot.”she teased him brigh with happiness now. She hesitated when he patted the spot next to him until he promised to behave. She moved over laying next to him listening as he asked a question.

Briony laid there thinking of what to say for what seemed like years but was only minutes. “Blair is missing. I know it’s only been like three days. However she has never gone this long without a word to me she even left her cellphone at home.”she said softly. “I thought she would be back by now. I didn’t think much about it the first day because of her and Chris breaking up.”she said with a sigh. “The next day when she wasn’t back I still wasn’t worried until I found her phone in her room. Now she’s still not back and no one has heard from her.”she said, running a hand through her hair. A small smile flickering across her face hearing him say himself and Chris would always be there for her. She nodded some she knew they would be, they always had been there. Briony let her mind flick towards past memories of herself with Phillip the memories would always be something the treasured knowing more would he made between them.”Oh god I don’t know if I can handle that being stuck with you forever.”she said nudging him.”I honestly do think if I continue doing well I would like to work alongside you. A lot better than some of the other jobs out there.”she said with a grin.

Briony laid there simply letting the sun and silence fill her. Once they started to fully dry off she couldn't help but frown some when Ghost was brought up. She did not trust him yet she would not let onto that not yet not when he could have info on Blair. She wouldn’t risk having Phillip try and start anything with Ghost.”He’s usually pretty grumpy from what I can tell. Though then again he was my instructor so it’s not like I know him on a personal level.”she said amused to him. “Ha good luck charming him though with your charisma you might be able to do just that.”she said with a shake of her head. When his next words were asking if they were all good she gave him a look. “Of course we can stay friends and still do fun stuff like this still.”she said with a laugh. She pulled her clothes on with a laugh still.”I know I’m meeting up with Chris and Aubrey this evening so I still have plenty of time.”she said with a smile.

Aya.

Aya was touched by the flower drawing she knew Griffon was trying his hardest to remember if he had made it for her or not. She didn’t care because it was for her now and that’s all that mattered. She took his hand giving it a gentle squeeze before moving away to slip the art work into her own sketchbook before putting it away. She didn’t want it to get lost when they went to the movies. The thought of going to the movies with Griffon and it being his first time was rather exciting. The bitter sadness of also knowing he would probably forget most if not all of it was in her mind yet she shoved it back. She wasn’t about to let that thought ruin either of their excitements about the movies. So instead of letting the dark thoughts swirl, she grabbed his hand knowing he was in the same mindset as her when he started speaking about the movie. She gave it a gentle squeeze before they started gathering their sketchbooks and supplies getting them ready to leave. It was like a warm fuzzy feeling watching how excited Griffon was seeing everything for the first time. She watched as he looked around at all the posters and all of the sights within the building. She simply watched him, letting him look until it was time to pick a movie.”Let’s just see whatever is playing now. It’ll be a bit of a surprise.”she said as they headed over to get tickets and popcorn. Aya quickly pulled out her own money, waving Griffon off with his attempt to buy anything. She wanted to treat him since this was special.

They quickly found some empty seats taking their places as the movie had just started. She opened the popcorn taking a couple bites before offering it to him. When he didn’t notice the first or second time she finally nudged him asking if he’d like some. She smiled brightly when he was simply amazed by the flavor of it. Though when somebody yelled over to shush him she turned some glaring at them before giving Griffons hand a gentle squeeze. The two of them continued to hold hands throughout the rest of the movie, a blush on Aya’s face that wasn’t seen due to the dark lighting. It was fun being here with Griffon. He made her feel things no one had made her feel before. Once the movie was over they would get up and exit the place slowly.”Did you enjoy the movie?”she asked only to be bombarded with his excitement about it all. She smiled and simply listened as he went over everything how much he enjoyed it. She knew he was going extra because he was afraid he would forget everything so she didn’t mind listening. “Oh wait before we leave.”she said before pressing closer to him and snapping a picture of them together there. Once that was done she took his hand once more this time leading him towards a place they could eat at. It was a favorite of many of the people of their age group because of the atmosphere and great food.”I hope you are okay with coming here?”she asked. When he confirmed he was she got them a place and they were led to a seat. Nerdy. Nerdy.

Angel Campbell / Age:16 / Dauntless Initiate / location: training room. / Interaction: none/open.

Angel narrowed their eyes on the target, a deep crease in-between their eyebrows. Two small throwing knives already lodged into the board, on the outskirts unfortunately. One in the hand.
As much as Angel loves knife throwing and as much as they hate to admit it, they aren't too good at it. Yet. That's a promise. They will get good at it.

Angel always had a love for pretty looking knives, and in Dauntless they get to explore that more with actual targets and more readily accessible. Angel shuffles one food a bit more forward and practices the movement of throwing the knife with their wrist before letting go.

Thud!

Cling, clang!

Well fuck, that one didn't even stick too the target that time.

Angel groans to themselves, hand scrubbing down their face in exhaustion. Everything has become absolutely pointless, miserable, and annoying since they joined Dauntless. They weren't a total idiot, they knew that it wouldn't be a walk in the park. Mainly because all people that they met that had transferred to Dauntless told them so. But those damn fear simulations? They were… something else.
The first time they waited in that hallway it took everything to not snap at the muttering and pacing blondie or the awkward introduction from 'Nic'.

Angel knows for a fact that they hadn't spoken a word to any other initiates and was becoming… very annoying, lonely. While they didn't have many friends in Candor it was more than in Dauntless. Every time Angel saw or heard a conversation among their peers this lonesome feeling grew. And yet they never did anything about it. Unless you count them slicing their thighs in a private, dark area as doing something.

The absolutely crushing feeling of being alone in this Faction that Angel chose on their own accord can be described as embarrassing. Faction before blood and all that jazz, and Angel has yet to make a single fucking friend.
A part of them blames everyone around them. But a more realistic part of Angel knows that they haven't exactly been all sunshine and rainbows.

Anyone who looks at Angel for more than a few seconds usually gets either a glare or deadpan stare. Trying to talk to them is like talking to an angry looking wall.

The only times they spoke was for people asking their name.

A curt and cold "Angel." Is all anyone got.

Well… Except for Randi that is.
Something about fiery blonde was… different.
And for that difference Randi got more then one word upon introduction.
A hesitant, "Angel… and you?"

Angel can't even begin to describe what makes Randi so much different than everyone else. Something about her energy is… intriguing. While the blonde invited them to a party, and flirted with Angel, they couldn't help but blush. Much to Angel's embarrassment and frustration.

Angel curses themselves and goes forward, plucking the throwing knife off the ground and grabbing the ones from the board. They ready themselves to start throwing the knives again as flashes of the fear simulations start reminding Angel of their horrid existence.

Waking up in a white room, padded walls, strapped down to a bed, Angel immediately starts struggling against the restraints which just seem to grow tighter at each yank. Angel yells in frustration but eventually stops struggling. There's no point in trying to break free when it's obvious you can't.

They lay there for what seems to be hours but is reasonably no more than a few minutes. Angel feels something on their ankle and lifts their head, curl falling over their forehead. They see something wriggle.

"No, fuck no, fuck no, no…" Angel began repeating loudly which was deafening in the silence of the room.
They struggle to move their legs in an attempt to shake the flesh eating maggot off but it doesn't work. In fact, the more they struggled, the more maggots and bugs seemed to appear. The inch up Angel's leg, squirming in a way that leaves a painful withering itch behind. It feels like needles are jabbing into their skin repeatedly, all over their skin. They look to watch as maggots slither up their chest. Angel screams as they start going up their neck. Thrashing violently, head going side to side in a poor and desperate attempt in shaking them off. As they come up further Angel shakes and completely locks their mouth shut. They're coming near their mouth. Much to Angel's brief relief, they only crawled over their mouth. That relief was very short-lived when they realized where the maggots were targeting. Angel's eyes.

Angel shudders at the vivid memory of their first fear simulation. It was a fucking horror fest.

They haven't been able to slam emotions out, their drums at their old home in Candor… Angel wishes they had a chance after the choosing ceremony to pack some of their shit. But whatever.

They'll figure something out.

Aubrey Stark || 16 || Initiate || Dauntlessborn

Aubrey gazed down at the beautiful dagger with awe and silence. The tickling clock was the only thing heard as her blue eyes mesmerized by the designs Thorn had placed on them were trailing it like a beautiful creature. With gentle and steady hands she held it and felt her grip tighten with joy and solidarity. "Thorn, I could bloody kiss you right now." She said, looking at him with a fire in her eyes and a puffed out chest. "This is amazing! It's like you looked in my mind and then made it even better!" She trailed the lines of Caspian's name on the blade, and felt an immediate stab in the heart as she did so. Although no tears sprang to her eyes she felt the pain and grief flood back to her chest. For a moment she was silent, her fingers trailing the lion on the hilt and her breathing coming harshly through her sore nose. Eventually she took a small sigh and looked up at Thorn. "This is truly a gift Thorn. Thank you so much." She said with twinkling eyes. As she looked at him she felt a comfortable warmness and she realized that no matter what today had stored for her, what the world had stored for her, she had found a good friend in Thorn, a good man. Placing the dagger in its sheath she looked around. "Well, now that I'm feeling better I'm pretty keen to go out and do something. I have a bit of time before I gotta go hang with Briony and Chris, so do you want to come with me? We could go skating, or biking, or... OOh I could go get my tattoo redone like you said!" Aubrey suggested, a sudden excitement in her voice and body language as she straightened up and clenched her fists in excitement. "In that case you have to come because you were the one that suggested I do it! Maybe you could help the tattoo artist, although they might get a bit offended if you do... So maybe you can just help me pick." She said with a laugh. Looping up Thorn's arm she was about to go strolling out the workshop with him when she had a thought, pulling out the twin dagger to the one Thorn had just given back to her, she placed it on his workshop table and left it there. "You know, I trust that you can make something amazing with it. Would you do that? Make it different but similar to this one? You are so skilled with this... I have no idea what to put on it except maybe... maybe a female lion? Maybe my name? Or... I don't know. You think of it. I trust you." She said very simply. Then, grasping his arm tighter she skipped to the door, having taken Thorn's lack of answer as a yes, and let him lock up before they were out. It didn't take long for them to get to the area that was primarily tattoo stylist mall. You could find tattooists of all kinds and who did all different types of art. Aubrey knew her mom worked at one of them, so she avoided it today. Although she was usually more than happy for her mother to do her tattoos, she didn't feel like interacting with her much after what had happened with Charlie and Ghost.

Finally walking into one that she was familiar with, Aubrey began walking round the store looking at the different pictures. Eventually one of the tattooists finished the customer they were working on and asked if they could help. "I'm wanting to add to my tattoo. I'm thinking some kind of thorns but I don't want them too similar to my sister's tattoo." She said with a certain level of significance. The tattooists nodded their head vigorously and brought Aubrey over to see an array of tattoo sketches that happened to include a number of different kind of Thorn tattoos. As she was looking through, she came across one that was not a thorn at all, but instead she realized it was barbed fence wire. She pulled Thorn over and showed him. "Look, this is exactly what I want! And it won't be like Charlie's at all! Thorn you're such a genius I should bring you everywhere I go." She said happily as she took the sketch of the barbed wire over to the tattooist. He looked and nodded with some sort of appreciation. He asked her where her tattoo was. "It's on my back, it's quite big. " She said and the guy thumbed through his book to see the pricing and if he had an availability today. As he looked he also asked about what her tattoo was like and how she wanted the barbed wire to connect with it. "Well, it's a jewel with fire coming off of it, and so I was hoping that the barbed wire could wrap around it and if possible even have it cutting the jewel?" She spoke with a breathy excitement, having already become absolutely enthralled with the idea. As the man nodded along he looked at Thorn, asking him if he wanted a tattoo as well. Eventually the man gave Aubrey the price, and told her he could do it for her now if she wanted. She accepted immediately and paid, then headed over to the table. Given that she was wearing a singlet he told her she'd have to remove it, and also unclip her bra. She nodded and made a soft, shy look at Thorn as she began to pull the bottom of her singlet up. "Tell me what you think." She said, meaning of course the tattoo but not actually clarifying. She turned her back to him and the tattoo artist as she pulled her singlet up and over her head. Her back was clean and well toned, and showed signs of muscle growth and good strength. Her tattoo sat right in the middle, a beautiful amber colored gem with red, orange and yellow fire coming off of it. Aubrey climbed up on the table, feeling a little less exposed that way, and she felt as the man reached over and unclipped her bra so that it wasn't in the way. Aubrey wasn't usually embarrassed or shy about her body, but she felt a little bit like a shy girl when around Thorn. He was so... Well.. someone she wanted to always have a good impression of her.

The familiar sound and feel of the tattoo pen was equally a shock and also a happy feeling as she lay there, eyes closed as she tried to imagine what the guy was doing. She was a fairly trusting person when it came to things like this, so she usually didn't ask for sketches beforehand or for them to continuously let her look throughout the process. Whether Thorn stayed to watch, or whether he walked off to do something else, Aubrey couldn't say for sure. She couldn't turn her head far enough to look without twisting her back, and so she just assumed he was there. As the time ticked by she felt her body again begin to deplete in energy, the coffee already wearing off. She figured that she would just need another one and checked as much as she could to see if Thorn was there. With joyful surprise she saw he was, so she called out. "Hey Thorn! Keen for another coffee? Take my card or some notes from my back pocket and can you please get me some coffee? And yourself if you want? I really want a frappucino! Whatever is the most exciting sounding one the first place you find one has. With extra espresso! Thanks Thorn!" She chirped before the man told her to lie still again. She accepted, and felt her head begin to almost nod off through the constant sound of the pen and the comfortable position she was in. The pain of the pen felt fairly normal to her and she found it was more therapeutic than anything else. Through some good timing and simple coincidence Thorn returned with her frappucino as the man finished and she jumped off the bed to go look in the mirror. It was with a quick catch that she grabbed her chest as she felt the bra begin to fall off. "Oh my gosh." She said as a deep red blush erupted over her face. She began to giggle girlishly and awkwardly before looking at Thorn who was mostly trying to avoid his gaze respectfully, also blushing. Had he seen anything? She couldn't tell. "Could you clip it up please?" She asked, the tattoo artist nodded and clipped her bra and handed her her shirt. She quickly slipped it on and went to the mirror, this time simply pulling her singlet up to get a good look. She grinned. "That's perfect. Thank you!" She called out to the man, before grabbing the Frappucino from Thorn. "And thank you! My hero!" She said, her blush still not having gone away yet. She coughed awkwardly. "So... what do you want to do? I... should go out to look for Finn... Maybe... We could just take the train if you wanted to keep hanging out? I can keep an eye out for him that way and we can stay together." She suggested.

Shayla

Mood: Mixed

Location: Bathroom

Interactions: Birdie

Birdie’s entrance was less than pleasant as with her came a raging storm of booming sounds. The metal door slammed into the stone wall, the bang echoing painfully in Shay’s ears as it sent claws of agony deep into her brain. The random shout that rang from Birdie’s powerful vocal cords only added more needles in her skull and Shay did all she could to keep from shaking from the pain that seeped down from her brain and into her spine. Here white knuckle grip on the bathroom skin only increased in power as it took all her strength not to collapse on the spot. She had already been through so much today and Birdie’s outburst certainly wasn’t helping. The last thing Shay wanted was to end up back at the hospital she had just escaped this morning or have Charlie come charging back in here for some reason. Doing her best to take breathes and swallow back the pain Shay gritted her teeth which only served to make things worse rather than better. She prayed to anyone listening that her nose would not begin gushing blood again because she knew she wouldn’t have the strength to wipe the blood away at this point. All she wanted was to somehow stumble her way home, take as many medications as she could to knock herself out and curl up with Lev beside her. She had barely gotten to see her best friend in the past several days and knew he was likely worried about her. It wasn’t often that she didn’t return home and she was able to tell how anxious he had been when she briefly saw him earlier this morning at her apartment. While to many Lev might just simply be a cat he was the world to Shay and knowing he was upset in any way crushed her. She would have to get back to him soon to make up for the time she missed with him while she was at the hospital.

The images of her fluffy golden companion faded from Shay’s mind as Birdie spoke up in a far softer tone than she had displayed upon her arrival. Thinking of Lev didn’t necessarily make the pain go away but it made it slightly easier to deal with until she was interrupted. Glancing into the mirror Shay simply blinked at the reflection of the girl who sat with her knees up and her head in her hands. Like almost everyone in her life, Shay had never really put in the effort to form any kind of relationship with Birdie, not a friendship and not even an acquaintanceship, just nothing. This could very well be the first words the two girls had ever really said directed toward one another and Shay struggled to speak through the pain and exhaustion that fogged her mind. “Happens.” Was all she could manage to get out and she put in a very conscious effort to ensure the word didn’t slur. Whatever had brought on the outburst Birdie had displayed was clearly intense for the girl on the floor and Shay was the last person to judge anyone else for such a thing. Even though Birdie’s volume had only served to make things worse for Shay the ebony-haired young woman was doing all she could not to be pissed at the transfer initiate, she understood after all. While she might not know exactly what Birdie was going through Shay didn’t imagine it to be easy going off of the girl's reaction.

“Fine.” The answer was short and almost sounded rushed as Shay did her best to speak again when Birdie asked if she was okay. “Just…” She paused and did all she could to keep herself from stuttering. “I’m just…tired.” Her voice was steady but due to the pounding in her head, Shay did pause between words for just a heartbeat or two. Turning her head with a slight wince she saw Birdie was still on the ground and instantly Shay felt the urge to join her. It wasn’t out of some strong need to be social but rather a need to simply rest. Her legs felt like jelly and she was very aware of how dizzy she was beginning to become. Truthfully she probably needed her meds but due to her stay at the hospital last night and her stumbling rush this morning, she hadn’t thought to grab the dose she would need by this time of day. At some point she had also slid down the wall, her rear now resting on the bathroom floor as she rested her head against her arms and her arms against her drawn-up knees. “Why…” She paused and shifted to look at Birdie, “Why are you…here?” As far as Shay knew most people would have rushed off by now to get the simulations out of their head. It was odd that Birdie was still hanging around the testing facility.

Randi

Mood: Complicated

Location: Rolled Ice Cream Shop

Interactions: Rhys

Things were pleasant with Rhys as the two of them pushed the limits on how many samples they could get out of the boy behind the counter. With her flirty charm, Randi was almost certain she had managed to score more samples than the store policy allowed but the young man didn’t seem to mind. Between the two of them almost every flavor was tried including Randi being daring enough to sample the odd spicy pickle ice cream that wasn’t totally awful but certainly wasn’t her favorite. The look on Rhys’s face when she tried the green ice cream made it totally worth it though as his nose scrunched and a look of surprise flooded his eyes when she said it wasn’t half bad. He quickly got his revenge by swiping her cheek with a smear of his sample to which she gasped at the cold and began laughing while trying to keep her face from getting too sticky. Sticking partially to her plan Randi ordered a mango boba tea with extra juice poppers but changed her ice cream flavor to a heavenly chocolate-covered strawberry flavor that had rich chocolate ripples in it and real chunks of strawberry. Just from the sample she knew the ice cream was a total game changer and had ordered it on the spot, having saved the best sample for last.

Hearing Rhys’s question as the two of them settled into a small side table and chairs towards the back of the shop Randi swallowed the sip of boba tea she had been taking and lifted her spoon. “It’s a chocolate-covered strawberry ice cream. I swear it has changed my life, I would marry it if I could.” She replied with a playful glimmer in her jade eyes, her voice filled with its natural flirtatious purr. “Try some, you won’t regret it.” She offered her spoon to Rhys as she spoke. The childish fun the two had shared since entering the shop was almost enough to make Randi forget everything else going on in her life. She was almost able to pretend things were back to normal between Rhys and her, that Blair and Finn weren’t missing, that Freight hadn’t murdered her parents and tried to possibly kill her, and that she wasn’t divergent. But alas those were all things she would never be truly allowed to forget, not at this point at least. Rhys was a clear reminder of that as he changed the conversation from the light-hearted fun they had been sharing to one that carried the heavy gloom of reality. Instantly Randi felt a sharp stab of guilt as she realized she had been so consumed with everything going on in her life that she had barely focused on Blair being gone. Blair, the girl who was one of her best friends, and Randi had been too focused on her own shit to really think about what her disappearance might mean. She wasn’t dumb, she knew all too well how many people had gone missing in recent weeks and she knew she should have been more focused on helping to find Blair and the others. These weren’t random people she didn’t know, these were her friends, people she loved who were gone without a trace. Randi was well aware that she could come up with several good excuses as to why she hadn’t been focused on Blair but she wasn’t a liar, she never had been. The truth was that after the first day, Randi just thought Blair was needing space from everyone, and every day after that the blonde was too caught up in her life falling apart to think about one of her best friends. It crushed her heart.

A spark of irritation ignited within the fiery young woman as Rhys continued talking. It pissed her off that he had broken the illusion of normalcy but what really enraged her was how shitty she had been for focusing on her own issues rather than being worried for the others who were no doubt in some sort of trouble. Freight had always encouraged her not to be as selfless as she wanted to be and it seems that in the past few days, she had done just that, she hated it and hated herself. Knowing she had never answered his question about if she was okay or not Randi moved on, not wanting to lie so deciding to stay quiet on the matter for now. “We are going.” She announced. “I appreciate the offer but you are right, things have been crazy and people have been going missing and I have been doing jack shit about it.” Randi blurted, her emotions welling up inside her as she finished her boba tea and picked up her ice cream to eat on the go. “People I care about have been gone and I have done nothing about it. That is unforgivable and I refuse to continue to allow myself to sit by and not even bother looking into this.” The young platinum blonde was clearly fuming as she spoke but her rage was not directed at Rhys but rather at herself and the situation. “So if you wanna continue this chat Rhys then you are gonna have to do it on the road because we have work to do.” She kicked her chair back into its place at the table and turned on her heels with her ice cream in hand to exit the store. A fierce look of determination was burning in her eyes as she decided the first place they would be going was Blair’s place.
