First Day Back
It was the first day of formal classes at the DWMA for the school year. Summer activities had concluded and although many within the student body would continue to go on missions just as they always had over the summer, quite a few of them now had to add lectures and exams to their busy schedules. It was something some students delighted in while others were sighing the whole way there. Regardless of their reaction, though, they all would find themselves marching up the grand staircase as the dreaded 7am start bell drew closer and closer.

Among those who sought the quickest way to class was a young girl with bright eyes and long silver hair. It was her first day and she was still rather hesitant about being around so many people; however, she’d already learned everything she could from the little library she had called home for so long and had decided that she still needed to know more about the way of things. The DWMA was definitely a way to do that. Beyond that, Kassana was eager to meet people who could be compared to the heroes she’d only thus far been able to read about on pages within those same books that had taught her so much already. For now, she had been directed to the N.O.T. class which seemed to suit her desires more so than actually joining in on the fighting that so many students at the DWMA found to be their one true calling.

However, only one classroom away was where all the EAT students would be gathering. Unlike those who found themselves in the N.O.T. class, these students were combat ready at almost all times and they also were students who had been interacting with one another even over the course of the summer because kishin egg souls didn’t tend to take the summers off like students usually did. The group dynamic was fairly consistent despite the fact that those within their ranks were nearly constantly changing. Never had they changed more than on this particular first day of school, though, because Lord Death had just opened two more academies around the world to help manage the rising madness and the increasing presence of witches upon their planet. In opening two new academies, the grim reaper had also been forced to relocate quite a few of his staff in addition to some of his EAT students so that the new locations could have individuals present who wouldn’t have to be trained from scratch.

Keziah Swan was one of the few students in the room who was able to comfortably take a seat knowing very little about her own situation had changed. She had formerly been the meister to a pair of twin weapons and the only thing that would be changing for her was that now she would only be working with one of them - Grace. Lord Death had informed her of that almost a week ago because another meister in their group was losing his weapon partner due to some of the relocation that was taking place. The grim reaper had explained that he felt it would do both this meister - Easton - and Erica - one of the twins Keziah had formerly worked with - some good to work together as weapon and meister. Although the long black haired meister had enjoyed being able to dual-wield weapons capable of resonating together, she also knew better than to argue with the headmaster of the school so she hadn’t raised any objections. She also wasn’t one to really be too social beyond the eerie sense of well-placed confidence she exuded so it wasn’t like she would really miss the partner she was losing in the first place.

Meanwhile, several other students were stepping into entirely new situations. Jessyka Volontari was stepping into the EAT classroom for the very first time, actually. She wasn’t by any means inexperienced at what she was capable of as a meister, though. On the contrary, she was one of the foremost guns-meisters in Lord Death’s employ of her age. She’d recently been relocated from Australia after her partner had left Lord Death’s employ in favor of an ordinary life due to a meeting with a human who had quickly become attached to his very soul. Also stepping into the classroom not entirely certain what he was getting himself into was Jayce Hammerkin. He wasn’t entirely new to the EAT class, having been a student there last semester. However, he had taken the summer off due to the death of his former partner and due to needing time to properly grieve. The last familiar face to walk into the room was that of Easton Bayphor. He’d stepped up over the summer from the NOT class so this would be his first time working through the formalities of EAT classes. Unlike the rest of those who were already filing in, though, Easton definitely came dressed prepared to impress. He wore an ironed button-down navy blue shirt with khaki pants that were also very well taken care of.

Right behind many of the familiar faces were two new ones. One look at them revealed that they were obviously siblings and possibly even twins although no one would be able to confirm or deny that without asking. Alexis and Alexander Traynor had both spent their first semester in the N.O.T. class much to Alexander’s evident dismay, but their application into the EAT class had finally been approved in time for them to start after summer. Alexis didn’t look quite as pleased to be there as her brother did.

Alexander had rather firmly grabbed his sister’s wrist and was tugging her towards the back of the classroom. “Come on,” he muttered with a sharp undertone, “we don’t need to be in the spotlight here.”

“But I want to sit in front, Xander,” Alexis objected.

“No.” Alexander put an end to that right then and there and gave a rather fierce pull.

However, before they could reach the seats Xander had in mind, Easton was rising out of his seat to intervene in what wasn’t an appropriate situation by his judgement. “Excuse me,” he interrupted, “but I don’t believe that’s at all an appropriate manner to be treating a lady with.” He clearly didn’t approve of Xander’s actions and was drawing the eyes of everyone else in the room. His own gaze flickered to Lexi, though, and he held out his hand to her. “Miss, would you like to sit with me instead of this ghastly beast?” Easton didn’t hesitate in the slightest when it came to insulting Xander.

Alexis smiled slightly as her brother’s grip lessened on her wrist just slightly, but she did also see that her brother’s other hand had quickly formed into a fist of rage. She could see flares dancing off of it ever so subtly and knew that a fight was right on the edge of his mind right now. Deciding that avoiding a fight would be best, she shook her head and replied, “Thank you, but no. I’ll stick with my brother for now. After all, we’re new. We shouldn’t be somewhere where we’ll cause too much of a bother.” Her eyes moved lower and she followed Alexander back to the seats that he had already selected as seats appropriate for the two of them.

Easton appeared confused but did not object and instead returned to his seat as well.

Earlier that morning, a red umbrella had ascended the infamous stairs of the DWMA with such uncanny grace that it drew plenty of glances and whispers. The feet in the shadow of the umbrella seemed to glide up the entire way, displaying no signs of fatigue. The girl in the shadow of the umbrella was none other than Tachibana Kaori; famed idol from Japan, heir to the Tachibana clan estate, controversial claimant to the throne of Japan, and conqueror of the DWMA staircase. These were just a few of the accomplishments attached to this new student. Continuing on toward the school to ensure her registration had been finalized and that everything was in order before heading to the first class, she took a brief moment to duck into a secluded corner and recline on a bench to catch her breath. In reality, the trek up the stairs had fatigued her quite a bit, but she wasn't about to display that for the world to see. That would be undisciplined and represent poorly on her family.

She didn't wait too long, though, as she wasn't about to be late for class. In her eyes, that would be unacceptable. Thus she was quick to get everything squared away and head to her first class. She was in the EAT class, which was to be expected of her. She took a moment outside the door to close her umbrella and check her posture before taking a deep breath and entering the room. Her eyes focused on an open seat near the front of the class and she made her way to it. She didn't bother to interact with the other students. After all, she was here to learn.

It wasn't long after that another student sauntered into the room, but with a much cooler demeanor. Alex MacArthur, having spent a number of years at the DWMA already, had finally been cleared to join the EAT class. It was likely the returning students recognized him from somewhere, but probably wouldn't be able to place where, as he hadn't had much of a chance to interact with them up to this point. His hands were tucked into the pocket of his hooded sweatshirt and earbuds hung loosely from his ears, but they weren't actually plugged into anything. It was as if he was wearing them as a fashion accessory. In fact, everything about his fashion choices didn't make sense. They didn't exactly clash either, the sight was just confusing. Half formal, half casual. Making his way to an open seat, Alex flashed a friendly smile over to Jessyka, the girl that he was going to sit next to. He didn't recognize her, so he figured she was new. He didn't really have much to say, either. He wouldn't have had much of a chance to if he had intended to, though. However, he did note of the girl who had come in with her brother. Something about that situation seemed odd. Then he shook his head, realizing Easton was the weird one.

A girl dressed in a very recognizable turquoise plaid dress came waltzing into the room with a big smile and came right up to Easton, then, and said, "Hey! You're Easton, right? I'm Eric... I mean Hunter! Wow... um, you're not good at picking out clothes, are you?"

Before an answer could be given, another voice came from out in the hall, "G-Grace? Where did you go? We're gonna be late for class... oh, there you are." The girl that had just entered was wearing a matching plaid dress, except that it was maroon, and she was the real Erica.

"Awe, come on Erica, you ruined my prank," pouted Grace.
