It's been sixteen years already since the public was informed about the existence of beings living in the shadows of human civilization. Not quite human but threading a thin line between beasts and men. Their discovery lead to many political campaigns, some bent on their destruction, others fighting for their rights to be seen as normal citizen. After ten years of political talks and laws being implemented the supernatural citizens were given rights of citizenship. And yet distrust and conflict still blooms in the aftermath, some see them as a threat to society, as vermin to be snuffed out. On the surface they may appear human, have their own lives, similar to your everyday citizen but their nature keeps them from ever fully being accepted. Some embrace their kin, others keep it a secret, living a lie. London's east end was the first to be reborn as a city of night as they called it; the modern China town A sanctuary for all the supernaturals in need. For the world may accept them in the public eye but mankind fears what it does not understand...
Plot
Welcome to Justizia’s, London’s East End’s most popular bar, or rather the only one officially run by supernaturals. Situated just at the border between the human district and East End it serves as a common ground for social interaction, a save haven where you’d spend your evening after a long day of work. Accountants, teachers, construction workers, they all have one thing in common; during the day they keep their façade, going about their daily life like any human being but being able to finally let the masks fall at Justizia’s. One would think conflict and strife would fester in a freakshow like East End but supernaturals already face prejudice and distrust on the streets so they seize every chance of being able to simply be who they truly are and be accepted for what they are. But for the last few months there was a certain gloom hanging over Justizia’s, East End having been haunted by a series of violent attacks on supernaturals and old wounds were once again opened by a series of hateful activists who seek to contain Supernaturals like rabid animals. One would think it would all wash away in time but the sudden disappearance of Supernaturals in the area makes the authorities finally step in…
Our story will take place during the latest riots, playing either humans or supernaturals of all areas of society. Bakers, barkeepers, detectives, etc. It’s up to you but the main over-arching plotline will focus on resolving the mysterious disappearances while Supernaturals try to live their lives as if nothing happened, clutching a false sense of normality. Think of this as a freaky social commentary on matters of tolerance and acceptance with a weird supernatural twist, sprinkled with crime drama.
Rules
-I don’t like throwing in a post length requirement since Quality>Quantity but a nice chunk of text keeps the roleplay alive so keep that in mind
-Supernaturals are not unkillable murdermachines, they all have certain weaknesses and strengths, keep them believable and interesting (perfect is boring :9 )
-NO Murdering psychopaths, you’re not the villain here despite your freaky nature
-Realistic personalities. I don’t like mary sues, nobody’s perfect
-You’re free to design your own races but be warned that ghosts and magic is a very touchy subject so keep your characters grounded in reality
-Man eaters and bloodsuckers ARE allowed, they present an interesting conflict due to their predatory nature
-This roleplay ain’t for the faint of heart, there will be mature themes but I prefer keeping sexual content out of this or only strongly hinted at :9
Our story would revolve around a mixed cast of both humans and supernaturals living in London's east end as they try living their lives, yet we all know that conflict's always just lurking around the corner. Prejudice and fear ever-present in human nature. While some would simply raise an eyebrow at their batty neighbors other would try to snuff them out, seeing them as an offense to humanity.
But we all know there are always those extremists who'd do anything in their might to push their own agenda, because we all know there can be quite a bit of money and power in supernaturals, some of which may not even be remotely legal (*hint*here you have your overarching plot :^) *hint*)
