  joshua wellington was a star in his hometown.
  
  he played almost every sport, he was cast as the lead in the school play, he was the life of every party. there was hardly a soul alive whom he was mean to, and almost everyone knew his name. there were six students in particular who were closest to him, and despite some differences among them all, they would all agree that their high school life wouldn't have been the same if they hadn't met joshua, and they sure as hell wouldn't remained a group of friends for those few years.
  
  when they all graduated and went their separate ways, most of them lost touch. even joshua hadn't been heard from for a while. nearly five years had passed before they all thought of joshua again, and that was only because they'd gotten a call one day, informing them of their high school friend's death.
  
  the news came as a shock to them all. some of them want to just accept it and try to move on, while some of the others think that the reason behind his death seems a little off. in any case, the six friends, once all close to joshua, find themselves coming together again, not just for the funeral, but also to carry out one of joshua's final wishes.
  
  he'd always talked about loving the beach, and his family owned a house near the coast that the group of friends often used during summer break in high school. the six of them, choosing to put past troubles between them all aside for the time being, agree to spend a week at the beach house in memory of joshua.
  
  but after all that time spent apart, all the unresolved issues and feelings from high school seem to be bubbling to the surface, and to add to the tension, there's still an aura of mystery surrounding joshua's death that some of them just can't quite let go of.

  many see him as one of the most popular guys in school. being friends with joshua and captaining the football team was easily what gave him that title. he comes from a rich household which is led only by his father since his mother died many years ago. he's lived with a lot of responsibilty on his shoulders since his father always expected him to grow up and take over the family business (even if there were some dealings involved that were a bit below the belt). he's never really been interested in the family business though — truth be told, he's not really sure what he wants to do with his life because he never had much of a chance to explore his interests outside of sports. he's been raised to believe that having money is the most important thing, so despite hating his father while growing up, he knows his best chances of surviving this world would be to work with him — even if it's turned him into something of a workaholic now. he and his sister, the loose canon, always stood together against their father, so things are a little tense now since he went back on his word and started working for the guy. he is the former boyfriend of the prima donna, though he's not totally happy about how things ultimately ended between them. he and the cultured badass never got along.

  she's always been known as the golden girl. great grades, stunning good looks, captain of the cheerleading squad and always walking with purpose. to anyone who looked at her, it seemed like she had everything figured out, and she carried herself with the kind of confidence that wouldn't allow anyone to question that. all it really did, however, was hide the fact that she came from a broken home. she was once very well off because of a father who doted on her, but things changed when her father left the family for someone else who already had a younger daughter. when both him and his new wife died in a tragic accident, she ended up with the fragile butterfly, a step-sister she never asked for, and a perfectionist mother who emotionally abused both of her children because of her own bitterness toward her late husband — even though she was the one who chose to take in the orphaned child that wasn't hers. having to constantly maintain a perfect image to please her mother has turned her into a bit of a bitch, but can you blame her? she and the broken ace have a romantic past and things didn't end too well so there's a lot still left to sort through — including lingering feelings. she and the loose canon have never really gotten along, and it's primarily because she thinks that the sister of her ex-boyfriend had a role to play in their messy break-up.

  trouble seems to follow him wherever he goes. it's not like he asks for it, but he's never been very good at controlling his temper, and he's passionate about certain things. he spent most of his childhood bouncing from one foster home to the other. he never settled anywhere because he always seemed to cause trouble. by the time he entered high school, he'd already built up a reputation for himself, one that caused most people to stay away from him out of fear, but joshua knew there was more to him than his stony exterior. truth be told, he's a fun guy, with interests that would shock people. most that meet him barely give him a chance to let that side of him shine. he struggled for money a lot, and as a result, he's done some things he's not totally proud of, but at that point people had their assumptions of him so he figured, why not prove them right? he's on a different path now though, but he's yet to determine if it's actually helping him or not. the only other person who ever got through to him was the loose canon, but there was something that kept him from pursuing anything further, and ultimately it forced him to stop talking to her altogether. he and the insufferable genius are surprisingly good friends though they're terrible wingmen for each other. he and and the broken ace have some longstanding beef and it probably hasn't helped that the hotshot doesn't think he has any business being around his sister.

  for as long as she can remember, she's just been an inconvenience to her father. he's the type of man who loves to be in control and have all the power and she honestly couldn't care less. ever since her mother died, she began to act out and her relationship with her father has been tense ever since because he believes she's just acting out to spite him and tarnish the image he spent years building for himself. ever since she found out that her father's money wasn't all made completely legally, she rebelled against him even more by staying out late and always doing the exact opposite of what she was told. meeting joshua was good for her at the time because she didn't have a lot of friends or people she could trust before that. since she's quick to jump to conclusions though, and largely guided by her emotions, she somehow never stopped causing problems for those around her — whether she intended it or not. it's part of the reason her brother and the prima donna broke up, though she's never particularly liked her anyway since she always thought she was just dating her brother for money and popularity. her best friend for most of high school was the cultured badass and though she harboured a crush on him, her self-esteem took a bit of a blow when they stopped talking. she's not the smartest person around, at least academically, so she was tutored by the insufferable genius a lot, and it was sort of a love-hate relationship.

  he's not your average nerd, that's for sure. he's smart and he knows it, and he tends to make sure everyone else knows it too. he won't take insults sitting down, and he doesn't tolerate bullies. of course, his quips and the fact that he has no filter has gotten him in trouble in school many times, but that doesn't really stop him. he used to tutor kids for a little bit of cash on the side, but it wasn't really enough to pay his mother's medical bills, and since he had a deadbeat dad and also had a younger sibling to take care of, he's always felt the need to take charge and make sure his family was always doing okay. his vast amount of knowledge was put to better use when he was with computers, and for a handsome fee, he could find pretty much anything anyone wanted. in a high school full of nosy kids, it was a pretty good business, and joshua happened to be one of his first customers. while most predicted that he'd be the least successful of the group, he's ironically the most successful thanks to an app he recently developed. despite constantly boosting his own ego and making people know how clever he was, the one thing he was never confident with was expressing how he felt for the fragile butterfly. and while he somehow gained the cultured badass as a best friend despite many differences between them, he remains a little intimidated by the prima donna. whether it's true or not, he's been led to believe that she's not very nice to her sister, and that doesn't sit well with him.

  she's easily the most quiet one in the group, and many of the other students that looked at them often believed she was out of place among them all, but joshua didn't think so. in fact, he helped break her out of her shell a bit. the truth is, she's always just sort of hung out in her older sister's shadow and she's always felt like an outcast since she isn't biologically related to anyone she's living with. the kind of reputation that the prima donna had was something hard to live up to, and while she was also pressured by her step mother, just like her sister, it affected her differently. for most of her time in high school she dealt with a lot of anxiety and struggled with various insecurities. to everyone else, she was the kind one, the one who wouldn't harm a fly and had an almost infectious smile despite her shy demeanour, but much like her sister, all it did was hide the fact that she always felt like she didn't belong. the only one who made her feel differently for the longest time was the insufferable genius. she and her sister have a rocky relationship, because while she does love her and look up to her, she's unsure if the feeling is returned. she also became friendly the broken ace while he dated her sister since he was always nice to her. the relationship between her and her sister became even more tense when it seemed like she took his side instead of hers after the break-up, even if that wasn't necessarily the case.

  incredibly impatient, colby is not one to sit around and wait for decisions to be made. if she's got something in mind, she goes ahead with it. she's always believed that it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission, though that logic hasn't always worked out in the past. she likes doing what she wants, when she wants, and it isn't hard to guess that it's gotten her in trouble several times in the past, and it's the same even now. colby just doesn't consider the consequences of her actions in the moment — and then she feels severe guilt after knowing that her actions caused someone else some harm.

  colby's always had issues with authority figures, whether it be her father, teachers in school, or even — only on some occasions, of course — cops. having lived with a father who wanted things to only go his way, colby grew up to be quite disobedient since she hated being told what to do. it came to the point where she'd often do the opposite of what she's told, simply out of spite. it didn't matter if the person telling her this had good intentions or not.

    colby's been through a lot of things in her life, and they all started out when she was still a child. when she was brought into the world it was a happy event for both her mother as well as, surprisingly, her father. her father's happiness didn't stem from love for his second born child. no, as always, the mere decision to even have a second child was purely from a business perspective. a boy meant an extra hand on the work force. a girl meant having the possibiliy of forming alliances with other powerful, well known families. daniel huntington was not really a family man, and he got married to a woman much younger than him out of necessity, not love. still, during the early years of colby's childhood, he did take care of them all.
    
    colby wasn't really a spoiled child — at least, not in the sense that her father bought her anything she wanted, because that wasn't the case. no, if she wanted something, then she needed to earn the right, and earn the money on her own. that was something he drilled into her brain the moment she was old enough to understand. colby was a little spoiled by her mother though. both children were. she was a humble woman who rarely went on shopping sprees to shower them with gifts, but she spoiled them in her own way, either by taking them out of town for the weekend when their father was involved with 'business meetings' or simply pampering them at home with popcorn and cookies for a movie night.
    
    for colby, it was every time her mother made baked ziti. it's easily the best thing she's ever eaten, and though it was a while ago, colby still remembers how it tastes. no other recipe compares to the way her mother used to make it, but many have come close. the dish alone is the closest she's ever felt to having something akin to a home because even now, it reminds her of her mother. it brings her comfort. but it's only one of the things she misses about the woman who raised her till she was nine years old — till that one, stormy night when she left the house late at night and never returned.

    after her mother's death, a lot of things changed. her father made less of an effort with his children when he should have made more, given that he wasn't much of a parental figure when his wife was around, and colby and her brother were mostly taken care of by a string of nannies. once they were old enough, nannies were no longer required and colby and her brother took care of themselves, and occasionally each other. she learned how to fend for herself but she still struggled when it came to her academics. though she was diagnosed earlier on, after her mother's death, colby seemed to get worse.
    
    the test anxiety was more frequent and severe and she started slacking off more. she really did try for a short while there, till her father eventually decided to treat her with stimulants. her mother had been against it, but since she was no longer around, and since he needed a way to get her on track, he thought it was the only thing that would work. he was a busy man — he didn't want the calls from school to continue just because colby wasn't finishing her homework or contributing to group projects.
    
    if anything though, that decision made things worse. she began to rely more and more on stimulants, eventually seeking different things that would have more of an impact. colby's grades, which were semi-decent in middle school, went even further downhill. the school assigned her a tutor and it worked for a little bit, but that didn't keep her from getting into trouble more frequently as she grew older and her temper got worse. tension between her and her father at home didn't make things any easier, and it took a turn for the worse when she led a protest against him and his company. truthfully, colby often searched for ways to get a rise out of her father ever since she learned little truths about his business and what kind of man he really was.
    
    it wasn't until colby became friends with joshua that she tried to clean up her act a little more. the protests continued, of course, and for a number of different causes, but she tried to focus on her education a little more to be able to actually graduated because with the way things were going, the chances of that seemed slim.

    after most of her friends graduated, colby felt a little left behind. she was younger and also a year behind and she started to feel like there was no point in continuing to try. relationships changed, and the people she once considered close were barely on speaking terms with her anymore. all she wanted was to get out of that stupid town so she could try and start fresh, so she dropped out of school and did just that.
    
    colby didn't have much money but she kept herself afloat somehow. she took up odd jobs where she could, hitchhiked when necessary, and survived by couch surfing till she got a job as a florist that came with a tiny apartment right above the shop. she continued her work in activism for various different causes and she's been doing okay for herself. while she's still got problems that need to be addressed, she's doing a lot better, and she's not relying on drugs and alcohol as much as she did in the past.

  Good morning,
  
  As some of you are already aware, a good friend of mine from school recently passed away. He and I played soccer together, and he was always full of great advice. Sadly, we’ve been out of contact for a couple of months – maybe even a year or so – and so, learning about his passing brings a lot of grief and regret.
  
  One of his last wishes was for a group of his closest friends from school to stay at the beach house we used to spend time together in his honour. Sadly, this means I might be a little AWOL for the next week or so. I will try my hardest to get back to messages, but please be respectful through my mourning.

  At the age of fourteen, Minho was diagnosed with epilepsy. His teachers had noted that he had been ‘zoning out’ and ‘daydreaming’ a lot during classes, but had been tossing it up to the fact that Minho enjoyed being the ‘class clown’ or skipping class. However, one day during sports lesson, he had his first tonic seizure while running laps on the soccer field; His body stiffened as he fell to the ground, unconscious. Luckily, his teacher had been close by and was with him throughout the whole experience. The only way he could describe it to others was this intense burning radiating through his body and as he came back to consciousness, it felt as if he had just run a marathon. His body ached, he was gasping for air, and he felt like he was going to vomit everywhere.
  
  He went to the hospital, did some tests, and then went home. Nothing was diagnosed nor did they confirm anything. A week later, while Minho was watching television with his foster family late at night, he experienced another tonic seizure. Back to the hospital they went where Minho was admitted for a couple of days for testing. After having another three seizures during his time there, the doctors finally diagnosed him with generalized epilepsy, having shown signs of tonic (muscle stiffness and rigidity), atonic (sudden loss of muscle tone) and absence (a brief loss of consciousness; looks like ‘daydreaming’) seizures.
  
  Throughout the years, Minho has tried various medications and methods to try and keep his epilepsy at bay. At the moment, he is taking medication twice a day, along with a Keto diet and exercising. It seems to be working as it has limited his seizures to once a fortnight or even month – as opposed to the three or four seizures he was having each fortnight while in high school.
  
  He has also been able to pick up on triggers which have been known to set off some of his seizures. Some of these triggers being missing his medication, stress and anxiety (feeling ‘overwhelmed’), lack of sleep, exhaustion, dehydration, and drinking alcohol (he can have one or two glasses, but it’s when he has a hangover that causes the seizures).

  Minho has always been someone bold, full of life and energy. He enjoys nothing more than pushing all the boundaries (even if it means getting him into trouble from time to time) and discovering and using new things and ideas. Combining his boldness with practically, he is also very original. He loves to experiment with new ideas and solutions, and will put things together in ways that others may not have thought to do so.
  
  When speaking with others, he is one to be direct and communicate quite clearly. Like pushing boundaries, being direct and factual has often landed him in hot water as he rather says things are how and what they are rather than sugar-coating it.
  
  However, due to his boldness and being so direct, Minho can be quiet insensitive. If he’s not careful, he tends to get too caught up in the moment, take things too far and cause hurt to more sensitive people without realising (also, forgets to take care of his health and safety). Feelings and emotions come second to facts and “reality”, and he finds emotionally charged situations awkward and uncomfortable. Not only that, he struggles with opening up and expressing his own feelings and troubles. Rather than letting speaking to someone how something might be troubling him, he would rather push it deep down and just ignore it. Something which he really shouldn’t do considering one of his seizure triggers is stress.
  
  Minho likes to move at his own pace to keep himself active and excited, and to continue pushing down anything that might be causing any emotional distress. Because of this, he can be rather impatient. Slowing down because someone else “doesn’t get it” or having to stay focused on a small, single detail for way too long is extremely challenging for him. This also makes school and anything else with highly organized environments and extreme challenge to him. Not because he isn’t smart, or that he can’t do well, but because he requires hands-on learning to actually enjoy what he is learning.
  
  Additionally, repetition, hardline rules, sitting quietly – also all things that he hates. Minho is very defiant and hates to be boxed in. He’s highly action-oriented and hand-on, and finds certain work to be tedious and therefore, making him intolerable as it requires extraordinary effort for him to stay focused long enough. Sadly, this also makes him risk-prone as his impatience leads him to push into uncharted territory without thinking of any of the long-term consequences. He’s willing to enter into extra risk just to intentionally combat boredom in his life. He wants to live in the moment and dive straight into the action – into the eye of the storm – because it’s just so stimulating to his logical mind. Anyways – rules were made to be broken.
  
  Finally, he has a knack for being socialable and using his social interactions and networking opportunities. He doesn’t actively seek people or to be a group leader, it tends to just fall right into his lap. Minho always has an impact in his surroundings, and the best way to spot him in a party is to look for someone who is always seeking to entertain and make others laugh with his blunt and earthly humour.   The sound of the ocean break at night, the breeze on his face, trying something new, soccer, summer, listening to ASMR of people cutting fruits and vegetables, meeting new people, when you get to wake up without an alarm on, the excitement of travelling somewhere, board games, spicy foods, new clothes, and listening to other people talk.

  Being alone, bad drivers (especially because he’s not allowed to drive), hospitals, people with bad breath, when someone makes assumptions of what people with epilepsy look/act like, when all the lights are off in the house, having plans cancelled at the last minute, that pause for a sneeze that is about to come out but doesn’t, bad tastes in the back of his mouth (sometimes means a seizure is about to start), and well, sometimes he misses eating normal food and not being stuck on a diet.

  Through out his whole life, Minho has had three fears. Abandonment, his intelligence, and the fear of death.
  
  He fears people abandoning him like his mother had done when he was six years old. However, due to this fear, he has often struggled with getting close to others. He has befriended others like the loose canon and the insufferable genius, but his fear of abandonment is so strong and prominent that he tends to push people away instead of letting them in.
  
  Prior to his diagnosis, Minho was always scared that he was cognitively impaired and that there was something wrong with his brain. He would have chunks of his days where he just didn’t remember things, especially in class. His teachers would always say that he was doing it on purpose by day dreaming or acting silly, but it was quite involuntary and he struggled to pay attention in class. For that reason, he was often seen as a ‘dumb kid’ by the other smarter children who just assumed he was acting as a class clown to drag others down with him.
  
  Finally, ever since his diagnosis and his first tonic seizure, he has been deadly afraid that one day he will be killed from his seizures. That there will be a day where he has a seizure while he’s alone, hit his head and that will be it - game over. It is the main reason why he has a roommate and refuses to live alone, along with the constant want and need to have someone with him – not just for his extroverted side.

  Minho likes to think that he is quite talented with soccer. However, due to his epilepsy and his competitive nature, he tends to overdo it when playing in competitions and exhausts himself. The reason being why he has never trialled out for any professional teams. However, he does have a rather weird talent of being able to spin his pen in his fingers (also known as ‘extreme pen spinning’), and has been doing so since he was in high school.

  Throughout his life, Minho has been attending child therapists to learn to deal with the trauma of his mother abandoning him at such a young age. In his teenage years, he began to skip his appointments as he feared he was growing too attached to the doctors that were helping him. Over the years, and after being diagnosed with epilepsy, his anxiety and depression just continued to grow. However, he would keep it pushed down which would result in sudden outbursts of rage and emotions (primarily directed towards his foster families). Highschool really didn’t help and the stress of teachers (one teacher in particular) was causing more seizures.
  
  It wasn’t until he was twenty years old that he decided to return back to a doctor to help with his mental health. Slowly, but surely, his doctors began to make him realise that the extreme stress of living with a chronic health condition was causing depression and anxiety to rule in his life. Not only that, but that depression can also increase the risk of seizure activity.
  
  Along with his exercise and diet, Minho has been taking daily medication and seeing a specialist once a fortnight to keep on top of things. It has been a struggle to try and let his emotions out, but he’s slowly and surely making effort.

  I met Josh when I was fifteen years old. I had just moved to the new school after being set up with a new foster family. Honestly, there is not one defining moment of how we met. It just sort of… merged? We both played soccer either during lunch or after school just for fun. He was a great guy to have a fun time with you know? I honestly felt like I could talk to him about anything and he would never judge me for it.

  I mean, sad, obviously. The dude was a great guy. It’s such a shame that he was taken away so early in life. If someone was to say that they didn’t feel some sort of emotions towards someone like Josh dying, then they’re a monster.

  Honestly, when I first heard about him dying, I didn’t want to believe it. I thought there was some foul play or something, and that things needed to be checked with. But after discussing it with my therapist, they told me that people grieve in different ways and what I was experiencing was denial. To help my own mental health – and my chronic illness – I have to continue with striving towards closure and completing through my stages of grief. Otherwise, it’s additional stress that I’m putting on my own body which is never any good.

  There have been… some people that I haven’t spoken to in a while that I’m really not looking forward having to you know… break that awkwardness. Does that make sense? I mean… It’s just awkward. When I stopped talking to those people, I was young and stupid. I thought that I knew everything and just wanted to push people out of my life because I was too scared that they would abandon me. And because of that, I ruined friendships which I could’ve still kept to this day. And now… it’s just going to be awkward.       Minho had no idea who his father was. Well, neither did his mother. At fifteen years old, and after twelve hours of labour, Lisa Kang gave birth to her son. She had no clue what she was doing. Her parents had banished her after discovering she was pregnant, and there had been a selection of different men that could have been the father – something she was not proud to admit to. She had gotten drunk at a high school party over one weekend and when she woke up in the morning, she was naked in bed by herself. There were multiple people at that party that she could have slept with – and yet no one was coming forward.
      
      So, she was all alone. Newly homeless and with a newborn. She named her son after her late brother, Minho, and decided it was time to start acting like an ‘adult’. She tried her hardest to provide for her son by working long hours, leaving him with a babysitter just weeks after he was born. She loved him with all her heart and was determined to make things work. However, she was one to push her emotions down (sounds familiar, right?), and over the years, it was getting harder to pretend that everything was ok.
      
      She had dreams of going to college to become a doctor, and getting married and having more children with the man of her dreams. Sadly, everything shattered before her. The man she was head over heels in love with left her for another woman, she was rejected to every university she applied for, she lost her job, and they were given an eviction notice.
      
      Late one night, when Minho was six, Lisa awoke her son and asked him if he wanted to go to the beach. She knew how much he loved going there and was always pining to go. Without hesitation, he jumped up and out of bed, and began to excitedly race around the small apartment to find his beach toys. Once they were at the beach, Lisa sat down with Minho and watched him as he began to create a sandcastle. It was pitch black, and the sounds of the ocean waves thrashed and roared, echoing in her ears. She looked over at Minho and told him how much she loved him. Her son responded with a toothy grin and an “I know – I love you too!”
      
      Thank God for the darkness. Silent tears rolled down her cheeks as she leant over and placed a final kiss upon her son’s head and embraced him. She told him to stay there and create sandcastles – and that she would be right back. Oblivious to it all, Minho nodded and went back to his sandcastle making. That was the last time he saw his mother. Slowly, her figure was wrapped up in the darkness as she began to walk towards the water and eventually, the water consumed her, welcoming her to her death.
      
      Minho had been focusing so hard on his sandcastles and struggling to see through the darkness, didn’t even realise that his mother had been gone for hours. It was only when his stomach began to rumble, and the sun began to kiss the now-calm tides that he realised that something was wrong. He began to search the beach, now that there was light emerging, calling out his mother’s name. An elderly couple who were taking their dog out for a sunrise walk on the beach heard Minho calling out nearby and approached the sobbing boy. He explained to them how he was making sandcastles, and his mother said she would be right back – but that was hours ago.
      
      Within the space of a week, Minho found himself being questioned by policemen and then placed into the care of the foster system. His mother’s body was still being searched for, much to his confusion (because he was convinced that she was just going for a walk and would return to the spot she told him to stay). Within a month, the search party for the body was called off and Lisa Kang was presumed dead. There was no funeral for his mother, which led Minho to believe that she was still out there and alive.
      
      Just before his seventh birthday, he was told that they had a foster family for him. It meant that he would have a new Mum and Dad. But he didn’t want a new one. He wanted his mother. So, every night, Minho snuck out of the house and made his way back to the beach. He would sit there and wait for his mother to return to him. Over the weeks, his foster family began to add more locks and security systems to the house to try and stop the boy from escaping. But, surprisingly, Minho managed to make his way through them all. And because of that very reason, his foster family declared they could no longer care for him.
      
      Over the next seven years, Minho was in and out of various foster families. But he always returned to the foster system house. Families saw him as a risk due to his inability to handle his emotions (often leading him to fits of rage), and struggled to ensure that he wouldn’t sneak out in the middle of the night to head down to the beach. It wasn’t until he was thirteen years old that he actually met a family that actually fought for him.

      He had finally settled down with an old couple, Mrs and Mr Reiner, who had showed him nothing but respect. They did not attempt to keep him boarded up during the night and would often ask him if he wanted to go for a car ride down to the beach. They allowed him to do the things that he wanted to do (things that he was sneaking out for in the other homes), but with the condition that they went with him to ensure he was safe and sound. When he was diagnosed with epilepsy, they made sure that he was cared for and were the ones to push the doctors to ensure that he was getting all the medical attention that they could.
      
      For once, he was actually happy with his foster family and began to see them as his own.
      
      Sadly, Mr Reiner suffered a heart attack and passed away. Months later, Mrs Reiner was diagnosed with breast cancer. Because of the terms and conditions of the fostering agency, Minho was to be put back into the foster system at the age of fifteen. It meant having to move schools also. He was actually extremely upset that he had to leave the Reiner household. And his new foster family? Well…
      
      They were a very strong Christian Scientists which meant they avoided medical care. Therefore, instead of bringing Minho to his therapy appointments and giving him his epilepsy medication, they decided that the best replacement was prayer. Instead of these appointments, Minho would have to sit through half an hour of this new family praying for him each night. They had strict rules within the household, and it felt like nothing he did was right. Even when he had seizures, the family would do nothing to help or aid him but would rather just sit there praying for ‘the demon to be released’ from him. At night he would try to escape to go to the beach as per usual. However, his new family soon decided to bolt his window shut and lock his bedroom door every night. They had security cameras and had even placed a tracking device upon his phone. There was no way of him being and feeling free.
      
      School was his escape from this crazy family. After moving to this new school, he finally met some of the most amazing people in his life. This included the loose canon, the insufferable genius and, of course, Josh. He quickly fell into the friend group; as if he had been friends with them all for years. However, with the lack of medication and therapy, Minho was finding himself stressed out during classes, which lead him up absence seizures, which then lead him to begin to fail a fair decent number of classes.
      
      One afternoon, Minho was walking home from the shops when he ended up having a tonic seizure out the front of someone’s house. Thankfully, it had been the garden of his English teacher’s house, Mrs Woods. She rushed out as soon as she saw him on her lawn and hushed him through it all. She invited him into her house afterwards for a glass of water and to take some time to breathe. It was during this time where he explained to her how he had epilepsy and his ‘parents’ weren’t letting him take his medicine. She said that she noticed how he was failing some of his classes (hers also) and suggested to him that maybe she could tutor him. Mrs Wood insisted that she would talk to his parents and that she would tutor him after school in her classroom. He agreed and within a couple of days, she began to tutor him.
      
      At first, everything was going so smoothly. His grade was starting to go up ever so slightly, and he and Mrs Woods began to grow a teacher and student friendship. Some of the other students would make comments about how he was ‘screwing the teacher for good grades’, spreading them around the school. However, it was debunked when Mrs Woods added a couple more students that needed to be tutored into their group. After two months, Mrs Woods mentioned to Minho that she needed to grade papers that night at home; that he was welcomed to come to her place to study and she could help him out also. He saw no harm in it.
      
      But it had been a grave mistake. She offered him alcohol (which he had never tried before, so decided sure why not) and tried to seduce him. She told him that if he didn’t sleep with her, that she would fail his classes. If he did, then she would give him a top mark and talk to the other teachers about giving him a top mark also. He didn’t want to do it. But he also knew that if he wanted to get into a good university, that he was going to have to start improving his grades. And with the lack of concentration without his medication, it was a struggle. So, reluctantly, he agreed and lost his virginity to Mrs Woods. He had wished that it would be the first and last time it would happen. But over the weeks, she continued to make the threat to him. And well, the other students at school were talking behind his back. Might as well live up to what they were talking about, right?
      
      School was no longer his escape afterwards.
      
      He was anxious every time he rocked up to school. He began to avoid his friends, making excuses to them that he had to be somewhere or something. Then there was a week where every day he had a class with Mrs Woods, he could feel an onset of a tonic seizure. It was becoming so physically draining to attend school with the immense fear of having seizures from being so stressed out. So, he just decided to skip school. Instead, he would take the bus and venture the town, or go and spend the day at the beach. He began to attend parties of people he didn’t even know and sleep at their house to avoid going back to his foster family. He even skipped his exams, knowing that even if he did attend them, he probably wouldn’t even pass anyway.
      
      At the age of eighteen, he was finally on his own. No more foster families. It meant he finally had three years left before his medical coverage was up; three years to continue combating his epilepsy

      As soon as he was eighteen, he began to seek help from the hospitals regarding his epilepsy. They wanted to put him on medication, but his coverage would only cover a certain amount. This meant he had to get a job. So, he was homeless – jumping from house to house – and seeking for a job. Stressful, right? Most of the jobs he applied for refused him due to his epilepsy and how he wasn’t allowed to drive a car (which, looking back at it now, he could’ve sued so many companies for it).
      
      He somehow managed to snag a job at a local McDonalds store. Working long hours was painful and exhausting, but at least he was beginning to get enough money to start paying for medication. Now, the hard part was trying to pay for medication and look for an apartment. That is when he met Austin. Austin was a supervisor at another McDonald's branch that had transferred over. The pair of them hit it off like a house on fire. After a month of working together, Austin suggested to Minho that they should try applying for a soccer teaching job.
      
      The job was for a company called Junior Goals that went into child care centres and primary schools and taught the basics of soccer to the children. Now that seemed like a perfect job. The pair of them applied for the positions and luckily enough, they managed to get the job. After a couple of months, Austin – who had been giving Minho lifts to and from work – suggested that the pair of them should move in together. After all, he noticed how he was picking up Minho from different houses practically every time he picked him up for work.
      
      So, before his twenty-first birthday, Minho and Austin moved in together in an apartment complex. The pair of them have been living there for the last two years. However, with Minho turning twenty-one, it meant that the price of his therapy sessions and medication were about to skyrocket. Austin taught him the best ways to sort out his savings and spendings, and they were able to set some money aside for his sessions and medicine. However, it meant that Austin was to pay more for rent (which he really didn’t mind). Honestly, Austin was a blessing to Minho.
      
      At twenty-two, Austin opened up an OnlyFans account and suggested to Minho that he should do the same also. After all, the pair of them were both single and needed some extra money. Austin, who had already had his account for longer, was growing a huge following and getting a decent amount of cash from it all. So, with the help of his roommate, Minho managed to create his first OnlyFans account.

  When she was younger she didn’t see anything wrong with her life. At the beginning her father wasn’t around too much, but that was soon rectified. Then he became the perfect fun father that very kid wanted. Though in hindsight nobody was perfect, she hadn’t known him long enough to see that side of him.
  
  On the day that her parents died, she was crushed. Even more so when she found out that her father had a whole family before her that would be taking care of her.
  
  Her first few days at the new place were miserable. TPD and her barely talked, and her mother absolutely loathed her. Though there was no physical abuse happening, there was definitely emotional abuse.
  
  Michelle was constantly belittled for crying, and was told that TPD is the one that should be weeping since she’s the one who was betrayed by her father. And she would always praise TPD, and call her the perfect child. Oddly enough TPD was never in the room when her mother praised her.
  
  And once she had had the emotions, and security mocked out of her, it was time for high school. She had joined the drama club as a backstage worker, and was moderately happy. No one had to look at her, and nobody could pin mistakes on her if she ever screwed them up. And that’s where she met Josh, and joined his friend group. (If I get accepted I’ll update this section. For now I don’t wanna gm too much ).
  
  Once college started, she slowly drifted away from her friends. Part of it was because of the fight with TDP, and she even broke off from the friends who didn’t care. She couldn’t handle a slow death to their friendship where they ended up hating each other in the end. Better to stay acquaintances.
  
  After graduating she started to work in the fashion industry, and has become something of an influencer. It was easy. Observing the algorithm and posting what it wants to see. Boom. You’re famous. And no real life skills are necessary.

He has an aura of honest amicability about him, and it shows in how well he handles the social aspects of his life.

  Theo was born on a foggy winter night, in the grandiose bedroom of a four-story house with too many chandeliers and not enough light. His father had insisted his mother give birth at home, citing the awful weather, and once she had her baby boy wrapped up in a blanket, he went around back to talk to a man with a gun tucked in his neatly-pressed suit. The heir to his business, to everything, had been born. Now was no time for dawdling around.
  
  The halls of his home were quiet as Theo grew up. Golden trim and towering bookcases hung around him like a crown, nearly suffocating, and he’d watch from behind corners as strange people came in and out with piles of cash overflowing. His mother was a comforting presence, even as her hair turned grey and her smiles grew thinner. She worked at an elementary school, a stark contrast from his father’s towering grey buildings, and when his sister was just a toddler, he’d take her on the bus to go spend time there. It always made him acutely aware there was something wrong with his family. The other kids didn’t have closets full of suits, weren’t told they could be a king, and he couldn’t help but wonder what it would be like to be that free.
  
  It was autumn when he heard his parents yelling downstairs, voices cracking with unbridled emotion as he had never heard before. He told his sister to stay in her bedroom and snuck down the spiraling staircase. Snippets of sentences floated up, but before he could figure out what they were saying, the slam of a door echoed out. His mother ran to the car and drove off in an instant.
  
  Hours passed, and the phone rang. Theo’s father had left the house in a huff, grumbling animatedly to his cell, so he picked it up. It was from the hospital. The nurse on the other side of the line broke off in emotion at the sound of the young boy’s voice, telling him he should get to the ER as soon as he could. It took hours for his dad to return, suit crumpled and with a gun in his back pocket, but eventually, he drove his two children to the hospital. There, Theo soon found, his mother lay dead. He caught a glimpse of the sheet covering her before they wheeled the stretcher away.
  
  The funeral was a modest affair, despite the crowds of friends and loved ones Theo knew had surrounded his mother, and even in the rain, his father didn’t shed a tear. People lined up to pat him on the back and offer condolences, and it made Theo feel sick. He held his sister’s hand as long as she would let him and tried his best to feel nothing.
  
  He never forgot about his mother, but the rest of the world seemed to. His father had him try out for the junior league football team, all the while planting those same ideas of money and power, and Theo soon found he was a natural at the sport. People flocked to him even more after that, he tried his best to take it in stride. He wasn’t that kid anymore, small and lonely in a house with everything to hide, and at the very least, being at school gave him and his sister a refuge from their father. Teachers were cruel sometimes, sure, but Theo was quickly growing tired of the sight of weapons and forged papers in the basement. He made friends with two of the most popular kids in school and let his power give him refuge.
  
  During his time in high school, Theo had many things to hide. There were the constant pushing and training for the family business, his father coercing him into spending more time with the men he worked with, and he found himself on the opposite side as his sister as she continued to test the boundaries of her rebellion.
  
  Theo never had much time to think about his sexuality when he was a kid, but he knew his father wanted him to marry a woman, and over the years he discovered those weren’t the cards he had been born with. Theo was gay. He tried his best to hide it, starting a relationship with the Primadonna, a close friend of his, but he never could shake the guilt. She didn’t deserve a man who was lying through his teeth about how he felt about her. He kept up the charade for as long as he could, being as good a boyfriend as he could manage with the rest of his life quickly spiraling, but eventually, the tension mounted. They fought for hours.

And yet, he can’t dismiss how much she’s helped him, lifting him and keeping him sane when his world was crumbling from within. He wants to be by her side again: this time, as friends, with a lot more truth involved.

  imogen used to have it all. she was that bitch, the one with the flawless smile, the spotless report card, the hot boyfriend. equal parts admiration and envy from the masses, and she knew she deserved it. despite her wealthier background, imogen worked harder than anyone would ever tell to get to where she was and maintain that status. she was a good daughter, a good friend, a good student, all by her own merit.
  
  growing up, her family wasn't the most loving or the happiest, but they had their moments. her mother had always been the harsher of her parents, already expecting much of her from a young age. at her behest, imogen was signed up to several extra-curriculars even before she could speak complete sentences, for interests that would benefit her in dinner party conversations in the future but would amount to nothing more than that. they were wealthy enough to give her that sort of privilege in becoming more advanced than her peers, but imogen lost a good amount of her childhood going to lessons for god-knows-what. she barely remembers how to play the violin. but while her mother was the strict one, her father was much kinder, the one to pacify both mother and daughter. he'd always be the one to protect imogen from her mother's wrath, but simultaneously be the one to convince the younger to settle for a compromise. imogen's mother wasn't ever the most affectionate woman, but while she was still with her husband, at least she was kind enough then to praise imogen for her hard work.
  
  imogen would've never traded her family for any other, and she truly, truly thought the same of her parents.
  
  she doesn't know when it started, honestly. when he started coming home a little later, late for dinner and sometimes not at all. arguments became more frequent from his habits, and her mother's exasperation was painstakingly clear to imogen, both in the way she complained about her husband over their meal to the way she dropped the matter when he repeated "i'm tired." for the seventh time that month.
  
  it was the last year of middle school when he left. wordlessly, without so much as a proper goodbye, offering only a remorseful smile the night before to his unwitting daughter. truthfully, imogen had been anticipating it, considering the shouting match her parents had had the night before, but when she woke up the next morning to a deathly quiet house, she hid under the covers and sobbed her throat hoarse. she'd skipped school that day, without her mother's knowledge, and when the now single mother discovered her daughter lying listlessly in bed that evening, she'd poured every bit of her frustration on her, accusing imogen of not being good enough. such a bad daughter, she was, that he'd become so sick of her that he wanted to replace her.
  
  wasn't she already the best? what more did she have to achieve? maybe it was those words that really struck something in her. that sent her off the cliff, hurtling towards a sea of constant self-doubt and obsession that she'd eventually drown in.
  
  she barely slept a wink that night and got out of bed at 4 in the morning to ice her puffy eyes. by 7:30, as she always was, she was at her desk, her legs crossed and sporting her signature smile, like her family hadn't fallen apart in the past 48 hours. she was peppered with concerned questions, to which she'd calmly responded with the answer she'd practised in the mirror. she'd just been under the weather, and it seemed that was enough for her friends, because the conversation quickly shifted to requests for help with this or that. because they looked up to her. because she was better than them. and that thought, even if only marginally, lifted her sunken heart. no one would ever find out, and she'd make sure of it.
  
  come high school, imogen remained as the golden girl, to no one's surprise. her grades were stellar, her social circle was vast and even as a freshman, most predicted she would be the one to succeed the graduating captain of the cheerleading squad. she'd been working so hard, pulling all-nighters days before tests to maintain her perfect score, but if it wasn't criticism, her mother had nothing to say. she'd sprained her ankle from over-working herself during training, and her mother had chided her for it, not because she shouldn't have pushed herself too much, but for what her teammates would think of her skipping practice. but imogen had grown accustomed to such treatment, even if she longed to hear even a bit of validation from her parent. she saw her father for increasingly short sessions on the weekend, where instead of receiving the acknowledgement she so craved, she'd instead hear reluctantly of how lovely his new family was. of how much she'd love them if they met her. and again, imogen would wonder just what this other daughter was like that he'd chosen her over herself. herself, who had worked so hard, who was loved by all. all except them, she supposed. but if she kept working at it, she'd surpass her eventually. she knew it.
  
  and then news of her father's passing hit her like a truck going 90 on a freeway. which was basically it, really. he'd gotten into a tragic car accident that had taken the life of both him and his new wife, orphaning his stepdaughter. imogen was devastated. having to deal with your father leaving a second time wasn't something she needed. and for a bit, she wavered. she had a test that week, and imogen, so distraught, had run off to the bathroom midway through and remained there until the teacher had come to check on her. she would've flunked it if not for mrs. garret's generosity in allowing her to retake it, but her mother was informed. and she was furious, unleashing a tirade of verbal attacks on the poor girl when she'd picked her up that day. imogen was utterly exhausted, to the point that she couldn't even form a response, which only made her mother angrier. she could feel the cracks in her mask beginning to show, and she had no idea how to fix it. she didn't have the energy to.
  
  that was, until her mother brought home her new sister. somehow, someway, the funeral processions had fallen onto the deceased's previous wife, as was the custody of the now orphaned child. and so, as if to serve as a reminder of her failures, imogen got a sibling she'd never asked for, the very girl who she'd cursed, resented and envied for her unwitting, undeserving possession of what was hers. what should've been hers. she was a frail, demure little thing, clearly nervous about entering a new environment, and almost painfully quiet and plain compared to herself. if it wasn't clear enough to her, her mother's almost smug, pointed statement clued her in. her arrival was the motivation to rebuild her facade, to carefully fill in all of the cracks that had formed, even if she was becoming more and more aware that she was running out of cement. despite her supposed animosity towards her new relative, at the start, imogen felt no compulsion to tear her down. there was a sense of shared experiences in their mutual mourning for their father, but more than that— pity; at her situation, and how she struggled to fit in both at home and in school. it was enough for her to leave her be, but not enough for her to do anything about it. she was practically a ghost at school, and imogen wasn't about to put herself at risk for someone she didn't even like that much. generosity was never her strong suit, admittedly, and imogen was content going through high school without ever acknowledging her sister in the hallways.
  
  now imagine her surprise when the "someone coming along" was her. she'd somehow, someway, weaselled herself into imogen's close group of friends, brought together by one joshua wellington, and imogen could barely conceal her expression at the younger's arrival. it wasn't distaste, per se, more so sheer incredulity at how much fate had it out for her. perhaps she'd noticed something, but the fragile butterfly had approached her apprehensively that evening, a nervous question on her lips.

  and imogen had said yes. with a smile. "it's not like we can't share the same friends." and as her stepsister beamed up with her at a smile, imogen wondered if she would come to regret that statement.
  
  her presence quickly grew tiresome. her sister seemed to have taken her agreement as a signal that they were now friends, but imogen was becoming more and more irritated by her increasing clinginess and her presumptuous behaviour in thinking she could pour out all her grievances against their mother to her. when she dealt with but a fraction of what she had to go through for the past years. as she grew closer to the other members of the group, imogen began to worry. worry that it was the start of the same cycle, that she'd be replaced once more by this girl who was none of what she was, but somehow more worthy of love. and it was worry enough that imogen began treating her differently, as if she hadn't the capacity to be nice to her in more than one setting. the longer she laughed with her in school, the more dismissive she was of her at home. the fragile butterfly seemed oblivious to it initially, still coming into her older sister's room to lament.
  
  "aren't you tired?" she'd asked her one day. "of how she treats us."
  i'm tired of you. if you'd just never came into our lives. imogen had wanted to say. but she'd kept it quiet. she had no plans to burn this bridge before it was built, because that was never a smart move. so she'd wordlessly put her earbuds back in, hoping that one day her sister would just realise that imogen had no interest in hearing her over adele and quietly retreat without imogen having to spell it out to her.
  
  and then the break-up happened. it was midway through senior year, and while imogen hadn't been expecting them to get married or anything of the like, she thought it would've been a peaceful, mutual split. going to different colleges, or something of the like, but no, it was because he'd decided to try for the biggest asshole of the year award. if imogen was dramatic, she might've compared the betrayal to that of her father, but he didn't even deserve the suggestion of it. for another girl, too, his sister that had never liked her and never bothered to hide it simply because she existed. as if it couldn't get worse, the fragile butterfly, like she knew anything of their characters or their relationship, had the gall to give her input on a matter she should've stayed quiet about. like she always had. the bridge had barely been layered, and she'd gotten too ahead of herself. so now, as imogen tore down the scaffold, she'd let her drown in the waters and she would not bat an eyelid.
  
  it spelt imogen bidding farewell to the group entirely, only really acknowledging joshua for the rest of the year. he checked in on her time and time again to make sure she was okay, and when she'd given her valedictorian speech, her words on the "memorable and heartfelt friendships" they'd formed along the way held true the most for him. and then she ran away, as fast as her legs could take her, as far as she could go. all the way to london, where she rebuilt her reputation, still under the watchful gaze of her overbearing mother but far out of reach of the memories she wished to forget so earnestly.

    to most, marissa's a good mother who cares greatly for her children, a kind woman who would take in her unfaithful husband's new child, even if she wasn't blood-related in the least. truthfully, most of it is for her image. the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, they say, and if imogen's appearance-conscious tendencies are anything to go by, marissa's sporting two different identities at this point. even before the death of her ex-husband, marissa has always expected the best from her daughter, though her expectations only soared afterwards, to levels far beyond healthy. she constantly berated imogen for the slightest mistake throughout high school all while pushing her to her limits. perhaps it was the way she was raised, or her attempts to properly live out her youth vicariously through her daughter, but regardless of the reason, the toll it took on imogen is clear.

    imogen doesn't hate her adopted sister, but it's hard to like her. she represents everything that went wrong with their family, and considering she'd been a part of the family her father had ended up choosing, imogen can't help but see her as a substitute, even if she knows the other girl has done nothing wrong. it didn't help that it seemed imogen was taking the brunt of the abuse from their mother, all while the fragile butterfly got a slap on the hand instead, in comparison, only to shrink up into her little optimistic shell that did little to conceal her urge to whine. it almost irritated imogen more that she would attempt to put up such a weak act, almost as if it was a cry for attention. what started off as a bare minimum of courtesy and curt politeness quickly devolved into irritability and cold hostility after her break up with the broken ace. the younger had chosen to defend him for a situation she knew nothing about, and imogen, in a moment of frustration, saw it as the opportunity to dissolve whatever uneasy truce she believed was between them.

    At fifteen, Saint was diagnosed with generalized anxiety by his GP. However, after he was diagnosed, nothing was done--he never went to therapy nor did he receive medication to help with the anxiety. Everything was sort of just brushed under the rug, but thankfully at that time, it didn't really interfere with his daily life. Fast forward five years to his junior year of college, the year when shit hit the anxiety fan. After two petrifying panic attacks where he could barely breathe, Saint figured the anxiety might be back in full swing and went to talk to a therapist, who then recommended a psychiatrist to book an appointment with.     Early.
    Samuel Chaison was born to Elli and Steven Chaison at 10:48pm on November 5th. In general, he was a relatively easy baby. He cried a handful of times during his first few months of life but six months in, hardly shed a tear. From a young age, he showed an affinity for learning and an overall high intelligence. He started walking at nine months, speaking at ten months and was stringing together sentences at a year and two months.
    
    He was enrolled in preschool at a year and a half and after a few months, the teachers realized he was quite advanced for his age so placed him in the year above. Well, he still found that boring as hell but the school wouldn't advance him another grade level again. Though his parents were unhappy, they kept him at that school. The Chaison's saint-like angel baby (hence the nickname Saint) flew threw the elementary years and switched school districts in order to attend a more advanced middle school, one better suited for his ability.
    
    Middle.
    It was in his middle school years that his father started drinking. It would just be a few drinks a night, but those few drinks soon turned into several. Steven began heading straight to the bar after work and blowing all of his paychecks on alcohol, leaving Elli to handle three children alone.
    
    Saint, though he wasn't directly told, knew exactly what was going on and stepped up to help his mother take care of his younger siblings. As soon as school finished, he'd head straight home to help his siblings with their homework and cook dinner while his mom was working overtime at both of her jobs. Only when his siblings were in bed and asleep did he begin his own homework, staying up late into the night to finish it. In his eighth grade year, Steven stopped coming home entirely and the family had no idea where he went. The police got involved to help find him but also had no idea where he went and figured he just up and left the state. That left Elli as the sole bill payer, alone with three kids.
    
    Terrified for his family's future, Saint knew he had to do something. He went to his school and explained the situation and they suggested that he start working for a tutoring company that was looking for people to hire. Though he didn't really want to be tutoring annoying kids, he instantly accepted the job, knowing that it would bring in some money to the household and help take the load off of his mothers back.
    
    High.
    He started attending his local high school, taking all honors classes his freshman year and starting a few extra-curricular. Though he was still tutoring kids, Saint began to take an IT class, a coding class and became a member of the debate club, the varsity soccer team, joined rockband as the bass guitar player and was on the swim team.
    
    It turned out that he was a magician when it came to computers, coding and technology in general, so much so that the teacher started having him take a class at the local community college. But he didn't realize he could make a career out of it until one of his fellow soccer teammates started complaining that his girlfriend was cheating on him with this other guy who had a private Instagram account. Saint, tired of hearing is teammate whine, easily hacked into this other guy's account and showed all of the pictures to the teammate.
    
    The girlfriend wasn't cheating but Saint definitely cheated the system. Cheated it easily. Word started to spread that he could hack into classmates social media accounts and he was soon receiving all sorts of requests from his peers, which he accepted. But then his mother got sick and was hospitalized. Fearing the expense, he hacked into her back accounts and yep, there was no way they'd be able to afford to pay off the bills. So he took matters into his own hands and began to charge people for hacking into other's accounts. He could pretty much complete any request, but depending on the illegality of it, would charge a hefty price that he knew most could afford. Soon, Saint was able to pay off most of his mother's bills on his own.
    
    
    College and current.
    It was hard to juggle school, his friends, all of his extracurriculars and hacking, but he somehow managed. Though many people doubted he could, he somehow managed to get into his first choice of college. So at seventeen, Saint packed his bags and headed off to New Haven, Connecticut to attend Yale University and major in computer science.
    
    He still kept in touch with his high school friends and best friend throughout his university, but made his closest friends at Yale. Though his major kept him quite busy, Saint joined the club soccer team and the Sigma Chi Fraternity and loved them both.
    
    The years flew by, sophomore and junior year came and went and senior was flying by just as quickly. Right before graduation, he launched an app that quickly became a hit. Before he could glorify in the app, he was walking across the stage at graduation. It was bittersweet since he loved his time at Yale as an undergrad but he knew he'd be back soon since he's attending grad school at Yale.
    
    Saint was in the process of moving out of his apartment and into another one when he got the call about Joshua. Dropping everything where it was, he headed back to his hometown in order to be with his friends and figure out what happened to a treasured member of his friendship group.

He was beside himself when she was sick and worked his ass off to help pay for the medical bills. She thankfully recovered and has been healthy since.

    Saint's younger siblings who are the light of his life. He'd do anything for them to be happy. He became more like their father figure rather than older brother after their real father left, helping them with their homework, feeding them, putting them to bed, etc. Jinny is now a sophomore in high school while her brother Emory is a freshman.

  The life of Tessa was never easy, she wasn't born into a broken family, but it was clear to say she wasn't born into a perfect family. Her father once he found out that he was going to have a child, decided he was not ready for it, and like the coward he was, he left without saying a word, leaving a pregnant woman that could almost keep a roof on her head and lived check by check every month.
  
  Growing up it was obvious that Tessa was not like the other kids and not because she was a genius or was good at sports, she could notice that her clothes were from the second-hand store and she spent more time sewing the holes on the shirts with patches to make it still wearable, but that didn't let her define her, sure it made her envious of the other kids, but she was sure that not everything in this life was material and knew that her mother always did her best to provide the best life she could even if it wasn't full of luxury.
  
  As time passed and her mother started getting positioned on a more stable and well-paid job it seemed that their life was getting better, sure they didn't have the wealth to buy a big house or the most recent car, but at least her mother didn't have to worry about if she had enough to even put a meal on the table or to pay the rent.
  
  When she was in middle school she started discovering her passion for writing, especially poetry, she loved how someone could describe so much and create these metaphors using just words and impact people in a way. she wanted to touch people's hearts using just her words, due to the fact her shy demeanor while growing up stopped her from fully showing her true self.
  
  It seemed like everything was starting to get in place in the life of Tessa and her mother when her mother started a relationship with the man that soon would be become her stepfather, Tessa was grateful that her stepfather came into their lives, she never saw her mother as happy as she was with him, she started thinking that maybe that was finally the time so she could have a complete family, and that dream became true, but unfortunately, it didn't last long, that fateful day changed completely Tessa's day, what was just supposed to be just a trip to celebrate their wedding anniversary turned into the one that ended their lives.
  
  The small happiness that she had was completely broken by the accident, she developed panic disorder and close herself to everyone, trying not to show how she was always on the edge of tears, by always showing a smile and a kind persona, it was better to fake it than showing how she really felt, she didn't want to be a burden and have everyone pity her.
  
  Adding to the trauma of losing her mother and stepfather, she had to move with the family of the previous marriage of her stepfather, which happened to be one of her classmates during in high school, but instead of the kind and happy welcome, she was received with the cold shoulder, with a constant reminder that she didn't belong anywhere and the pressure of just being a stranger on a place where you wasn't welcomed didn't help Tessa at all.
  
  Pretending that she and the primadonna were still just classmates was not easy, the reality of their relationship was one of the best secrets that were kept, just a really select people that Tessa only trust like the insufferable genius only knew about what was really happening behind close doors in the house of the primadonna.
  
  It seemed that Tessa's life was just meant to be a tunnel that would never show up a light at the other side, that was until Tessa was paired with Joshua, she was actually one of the first people to actually saw her for who she was and not because she was an orphan, he got interested in her and her passion for writing, he became the light that she was looking for all this time, even if it was like they belonged in completely different worlds, he always made her feel like she had a place and wasn't an intruder.
  
  But high school didn't last forever, once they graduate and took their separate ways, it was time for Tessa to find her place and try to be her own light, at least she was thankful that Joshua was there to help her be more secure in her social interactions, once she moved to college she was ready for a new start, and become who Tessa really was and stopped dragging all her past, she was sure it would be alright, but she wasn't expecting that the person that once she thought as her savior and light would disappear forever without having the chance to say gooodbye.

    fake juliette is quite literally living a lie. nearly all of her high school experience has been a grand performance of trying to maintain her perfect image. she may be falling apart behind the scenes, but she can't let other people know that. in her defense, though, she's not necessarily pretending to be someone she's not—she's simply pretending to be somebody she wishes she was and the person that her mother tells her she has to be. this act of hers is her way of trying to make everyone happy while maintaining the social hierarchy. consider it a favor of sorts.

    grudging jules has trouble letting go, which is understandable given the life she’s had so far. her father left her, she’ll never be good enough for her mother, she has a sister she didn’t sign up for, and a boyfriend who left her to make his sister happy. if she thinks about it too hard, it feels as if the universe is out to get her, and she isn’t about to forget it. a part of her is scared that if she moves on, she’ll be caught off-guard by another disappointment, and in the long run, she’d much rather be safe than sorry.

    all of juliette's life had been spent on a pedestal. she'd had everything a girl could possibly want, but then her father was stolen from her, and her life was turned upside down.
    
    ever since julie's step-sister stepped foot in her house, julie ensured that the girl knew her place. jules blamed her for all of her new problems—in her mind, it was a convenient distraction from placing the blame on herself. if juliette told the fragile butterfly that it was her fault that her father had left, maybe she'd start to believe it. she'd finally be able to shake the voices in the back of her mind telling her that she was unlovable. he left because you weren't good enough. you should've been better. or maybe, that was her mother talking. with her blonde head held high, jules would walk past her step-sister's room and say, "maybe if you didn't exist, i'd still have my dad," and fight back the aching in her chest.
    
    as if her absent father hadn't been punishment enough, julie noticed a change in her mother. the woman had always encouraged her to be the best that she could be, but it was starting to feel like a demand rather than a suggestion. with all of the new stress put onto her, jules became angry. she couldn't lash out at her mother like she wanted to—she wished she could tell the woman that she wasn't her walking, talking barbie doll to manipulate as she pleased—so she took it out on her step-sister instead. juliette never once laid a finger on the girl, but she manipulated and taunted her similarly to the way her mother treated her when the fragile butterfly wasn't around. she used intimidation to make sure the younger girl stayed out of her way and remembered who the "favorite" daughter was.
    
    at school, julie worked hard to maintain her perfect public image, and she did a good job with it. no one suspected a thing—jules was still the golden girl she'd always been. she didn't have an eating disorder. her father hadn't left. she didn't have a broken family. her life was ideallic, like something straight out of a movie, and god help anyone who thought otherwise.
    
    with graduation came the escape of college—escape from her mother, escape from her step-sister, and escape from heartbreak. juliette saw it as a chance to start over, but no matter how hard she tried, she just couldn't quite shake her past. it seemed that despite the distance jules had put between them, her mother still had an iron grip on her life. "are you making good grades?" "are you watching what you eat?" "why didn't you do better?" what was supposed to be the doorway to a new life had become a continuation of her old one. with no one to take her frustrations out on, jules felt like she was spiraling downward. she reverted back to old habits for the sake of getting her mother off her back. you can skip lunch today, she'd tell herself. you need to study for that test, and it couldn't hurt to lose a few pounds. juliette has learned the hard way that her past just isn't something that can be outrun.

    the broken ace: the two of them used to go out. they had the stereotypical football captain x cheer captain dream team sort of relationship, but in certain aspects, it was more than that. aside from julie’s mother, he was the one who knew her best, but instead of using her insecurities to his advantage, he kept her grounded and reeled her back in when she worked herself too hard. jules didn’t take the split very well for obvious reasons, but she claims that she’s over him now, so it doesn’t matter anymore. she is not over him, however, and it still very much bothers her.
    
    the loose cannon: the sister of juliette’s ex-boyfriend. julie blames her for the messy and abrupt way her relationship with the girl’s brother ended, and she’s still harboring a grudge about it. even now, five years later, jules is not exactly jumping at the chance to forgive her.

• Danielle was born in the poorer part of town to a mother that was fresh out of high school and her abusive boyfriend. Things were tense as she grew up, with Danielle learning to speak and walk later than other kids, and being diagnosed with selective mutism at age 6, an anxiety disorder that made her practically unreachable when she was in most social situations. Danielle's parents couldn't afford therapy for her, and her father was convinced that he could 'fix' her by forcing social interaction upon her. This didn't help the situation- if anything, it only worsened her anxiety. Danielle's father was angry at not having a 'normal' child or a wife that could provide for him and took it out on both of them. Danielle and her mother suffered years of this abuse, up until Danielle turned ten, when her mother decided she'd had enough and ran away, only taking Danielle and the clothes on their backs.
  
  They ran to a women's shelter in the higher-class part of town, where Danielle spent many sleepless nights, afraid of all the people and that her father was looking for her and her mom. Danielle did notice that her mother was particularly friendly with one of the volunteers, though, a man who introduced himself as Johnathan. He ended up hiring Danielle's mother to work at his company, and with the new money she was making, Danielle and her mother could finally afford a shabby little apartment near where the woman's shelter was. Danielle's mother and Johnathan began volunteering, which turned into dating, which turned into the announcement of marriage. Danielle was originally scared when her mother told her she would have a new father, afraid that he'd be anything like her old one. But Danielle began warming up to Johnathan, even learning to love him more than her birth father. They'd have camp-outs in the backyard, look for insects in the park, and he showed her a talent she never even knew she possessed- singing. Johnathan would play the guitar or the piano, and Danielle would sing along, even writing her own songs that they could perform together. Danielle even started going to therapy for her anxiety, and her mental state got better, slowly but surely.
  
  That all came crashing down when, one night, Danielle's parents were arguing, more than Danielle had ever heard them do before. They both stormed out of the house, the last time Danielle saw either of them. The official story was told to her by police after long nights of crying herself to sleep ad being shuffled around temporary custody holdings. Her step-father had gone into his car, preparing to drive off to who-knew-where. Her mother, seemingly heavily intoxicated, had thrown herself in front of his car, hoping to stop him. He inevitably hit her, and in his sudden shock, had swerved to the side, sending him careening into a lake, and leaving an orphaned Danielle in their wake. Only later did she find out what her parents had been arguing about- Johnathan had left behind an ex-wife and a daughter to marry Danielle's mother, and failed to mention it to her.
  
  After a few legal battles and many nights spent in beds that weren't hers, Danielle eventually ended up with Johnathan's social-climber ex-wife and her perfectionist daughter, the prima donna. Johnathan's ex only saw Danielle as a charity case to put her in the tabloids, and the prima donna wanted nothing to do with a new, socially anxious step-sister. Danielle was sent to a new school, where she felt like a ghost in her own skin. She wasn't bullied, but she wasn't talked to, either. She fluttered across her peers like a phantom, only raising her hand when she had to, getting mostly mediocre grades, and choosing not to join any extra-curricular activities. She assumed she'd just be alone until high school ended, but then, one day at lunch, she was approached by a guy she'd seen around- Joshua. Danielle instinctively shied away from anyone she knew her step-sister was friends with, but Joshua just felt... different. They started talking, and Danielle eventually worked up the confidence to show him the songs she'd written with her father. They both started their own songs together, and, for the first time since her parents died, Danielle felt like she was whole.
  
  Danielle got to know more of his friends, including the loose cannon, the cultured badass, and the insufferable genius. Danielle finally felt like she belonged, and that feeling lasted throughout highschool. When she graduated, though, she made an impulsive vow to leave her old life behind- forget about her step-sister, her highschool experience, even Joshua. She regretted it ever since, but figured there was no going back. The day she got the call that Joshua had died, Danielle's mental health took a huge hit. She's trying to convince herself that this week at the beachhouse will be a good thing, but she's not so sure.

  Danielle's relationship with the broken ace is complicated. Though she initially promised herself not to interact with anyone who was close to her step-sister, in fear of them being just like her, the broken ace seemed to treat her with respect, if not a bit of sheltered fondness. Danielle refused to go to any football games, of course, but the broken ace would sometimes sit and watch college football games with her while waiting for the prima donna to get home from cheer practice, teaching her the different plays and what all the terminology meant. The prima donna would eventually blame Danielle and the broken ace's relationship as part of the reason as to why they broke up, driving even more of a wedge between them. Danielle and the broken ace's relationship eventually fizzled out, as it felt awkward to meet as friends ever since he and Danielle's step-sister broke up.

  Danielle can't find the courage to hate her step-sister. despite their estranged relationship and all the emotional abuse from her she'd experienced over the years, she and her mother were the only people to take her in when it felt like no one else wanted her. They never exactly bonded as sisters should- the prima donna was resentful of Danielle for stealing her father, and Danielle was too emotionally shaken to try and form a relationship. Danielle was fine letting their practically nonexistent relationship fade after going off to college, and barely talks to her anymore.
  
  the cultured badass
  
  Though Danielle and the cultured badass were never all that close, Danielle still holds some kindredship towards him. Both orphans, both stuck in situations they never wanted to be in. They were both part of different sects in high school, so they didn't talk much, but Danielle still regrets not forming as much of a bond with him.

  Danielle's always been a bit intimidated by the loose cannon. She was always the one troublemaker, the one who stood out from the crowd. Her antics were almost frightening to Danielle- she couldn't imagine what it would be like to be her. Because of this, they were never really all that close, despite being in the same friend group.

  Danielle's always seen the insufferable genius as a good friend. Though she wasn't as close to him as she was to Joshua, he was someone she could talk to, or go over answers with, or just stay up late with sharing funny animal videos. He's the one she's kept the best contact with over the years, even meeting up for coffee on a few occasions.

  The prima donna's mother seemed to take in Danielle on a whim, thinking it would be good publicity for her to raise an orphan child. Despite this unconventional train of thought, Danielle is still appreciative of everything she's done for her. Though she never treated her like Danielle's biological mom did, she did what she knew how- give her daughter the lifestyle of a socialite. Though Danielle resented that life, she never had the heart to tell her step-mother, afraid that she'd be alone again.

  a deep-seated aversion to vulnerability is just one of many character deficiencies fostered in him by his father. noah is rarely secretive in a malicious way, but he doesn't reveal much about his feelings or problems to others. when he feels like he's about to get hurt, he shuts himself off and at times gets distant or even cruel.
  
  

  Overprotective

    noah's mother left the world behind when he was a few months old. she'd been sick ever since she gave birth to him, and she couldn't hold on anymore. he's told she passed away hugging him while he slept. people always say that like it's an incredibly moving tale, how she loved her baby to the end. as a child, noah of course had no reason to believe any different. it would be many years into the future that he decides it wasn't all that touching after all, when you consider the reason she was alone with a newborn so late at night, weak and ill, despite having a perfectly healthy husband.
    
    not that it ultimately mattered to him. noah wasn't happy to hear it either way. the story bothered him. it's important to note here that his father wasn't a loving parent in the least. noah's clearest image of the man was a figure sitting behind a mahogany desk, casting giant shadows across the room — a rather horrific image that tells you all you really need to know. his stepmother was nice, but she wasn't his parent. not really. so, when he saw kids being picked up from his kindergarten, laughing as they disappeared into the distance with their parents like a fading dream, he felt this weird, pulling feeling in his stomach. noah grew up missing his mom, a lot, more than he could comprehend himself, even if he never knew her.
    
    and he thought that, maybe, if he'd been awake and had kept his eyes on her, she wouldn't have vanished. that he should have watched over his mother to make sure she stayed, and then she would still be alive. an impossible, childish thought, of course. not just for the unscientific nature of it but because he was a baby and those simply don't stay awake. but for the longest time, noah held that conviction close to his heart. maybe it'd just been better than thinking that she would have gone no matter what, that he was helpless to stop it.
    
    anyway, the point is, it was that belief that led him to sneak out to the attic that night.
    
    he must've been around seven or eight years old. it was nearing christmas time. he joined colby to build a snowman before dinner and, though he claimed it looked so dumb, he liked it. so after dinner, he went to the living room window to peek at it again. by that point, the poor thing had already lost an arm. noah was spooked. he'd only left it alone for barely half an hour but it was disappearing. he didn't want to lose it.
    
    unfortunately, his bedroom didn't have a window on the right side of the house to keep watch on the snowman. so he snuck out to the one place in the house where he could watch it without getting caught by his father, the highest place. the view was beautiful that night. a starry sky and a landscape of snow, decorated with big and little houses across his vision. even the metal frame couldn't take away from it. he doesn't know how long he stared out there.
    
    but eventually, he fell asleep. and when he woke up, the sun was up and his snowman was gone. deep inside, noah had expected it. he knew it would be ridiculous to cry over snow that melted — but he couldn't help it. he didn't stop even when he heard his father enter the place, though he did try to wipe his tears away. his father stared down at him for a while. you're grounded, came the voice, which sounded to noah like it was devoid of emotion despite the man's visible anger, go to your room, i'll only call you out when it's time for your football practice.
