Fandom Avatar: Spirits Awaken

Jay

Jay stood across the road from the station, staring at the thick crowds that fought desperately to get inside. It was ridiculous, there was no way he'd be able to slip between these people and get a train, never mind without being recognised. He rubbed the back of his head through his hood and groaned loudly. "Khan what the hell is going on here?" He asked, gesturing to the feverish crowds.

"Well I heard a rumour sir... That the Avatar would be arriving today," He answered apologetically. "I probably should have mentioned it sooner"

"You think!" Jay half shouted gesturing to the squirming crowds. He let out a deep breath, calming himself and was immediately filled with guilt for shouting at his elderly servant. "Sorry Khan.... It's just I hoped to be in Omashu by nightfall."

"It's okay sir, I understand. Though Sir your airship should be out of the shop in a few days if the crowds haven't died down by then." Khan reminded him, happy to be able to provide an alternative for his young master.

"True, would be a more comfortable journey as well, thou-" Jay reasoned before being cut off abruptly.

"Mr Kannan?" A figure spoke seriously. Jay turned towards him, shocked to see it was a member of the police.

"Yes officer... is something wrong?" He queried, quickly running through all the illegal activities he had committed recently, trying to figure out if there had been witnesses. He laughed at his own paranoia, the only crimes he had really committed was under aged drinking and they didn't sent police after you for that.

"No, no not at all sir. I'm here concerning your match today, it seems you made quite the impression on the president, or more specifically his daughter. She has requested that you lunch with them today, alongside other prestigious guests." He said seriously coming to a salute. Jay let out a sigh. This wasn't the first time the president's daughter had been fawning after him and was perhaps the fourth or so invite this month alone.

"Tell her that I am very busy with my training and need to rest after a big game like todays." He spoke in a practiced monotone voice. He had used the excuse countless times in the past and hoped that if he used it enough the girl would get the message.

"She said you would say that... So she told me to inform you that the Avatar will also be attending." He half whispered, ensuring he wasn't overheard by the surrounding crowds. Jay raised his eyebrows at the mention of the Avatar, weighing out his options in his mind before letting out a sigh.

"Go give her the good news." He resigned, curious to see who the almighty spirit had been born into this time. The officer smiled and looked sideways before producing an earth soccer ball from behind his back.

"And if it isn't too much to ask my son is a huge fan." He spoke, holding the ball out to him hopefully. Jay sighed and took a pen off of Khan and signed the ball with a flourish before turning on his heel and walking away as a few members of the crowd witnessed the signing and grew curious. Fame really wasn't as fun as it was made out to be.

"The Avatar?" It's true, only the avatar could pick up such a mob in his tracks. Maybe he would go watch him too...

"My name's Kano," He replied,"Kano Hwa." He turned back to look at the crowd that was dispersing, overhearing some moans about how the avatar had just left them in the dust. So he's gone huh? Kano retreated deeper into the alleyways to head the new downtown. If anything, the avatar will probably head there sooner or later.

Opal watched Kano the water bender disappear, brow furrowed in confusion. Benders were so weird sometimes. With a smirk, she sheathed her dagger and pocketed the gold coins, making her way back to the main drag. She managed to find a little spot to eat for cheap, and the food wasnt all that bad. There were crowds of people moving past the place, apparently the Avatar was still nearby. He must be doing some sightseeing. The girl sighed, flipping one of her braids over her shoulder as she stood to leave. It was crowded in Repiblic City, even more so with the Avatar coming to town.

Jeng shrugged, smiling. "Guilty as charged." He looked up at the sky; the time had flown by quickly. "Hey Officer Chen, what time did you say we were supposed to have lunch with the president?"

Ryo

After packing all of his belongings into a suitcase, Ryo's stomach began to rumble. When was the last time I had a decent meal? Ryo left the storage room and headed for the back of the jewelry shop where he kept a box filled with cans and his trash stove. He searched through the place but all he found was a half eaten bag of chips. "Great...better than my last meal." He said thinking back to the coffee he had had earlier that day. Ryo took the bag of chips and began to munch on the left over pieces. The chips were already stale. Instead of them crumbling up as he bit down on them, they just bend as if he was eating a piece of plastic. The slight hint of lemon and dust was what made the chips edible.

With the bag of chips gone Ryo's stomach was still complaining about the lack of food. He fiddled through his belongings but only found several water tribe coins that were no good in Republic City. The only money he had left was the money that he was going to give the old man for his escape, so he couldn't give that up. There was only one thing left to do. Ryo went back to the storage room and grabbed a long box that had been hidden above a broken shelf. Inside the box was a whale tooth scimitar.

That scimitar had been in Ryo's family since the time Avatar Kuruk. The scimitar had been passed down to the first born son of every generation. Ryo's father had given him the Scimitar days before his abduction. It was the last thing that Ryo had left of him.

Ryo closed his eyes and forced himself to breathe. He wrapped the Scimitar in a piece of brown cloth and headed over to the trader's market which was just between the Ghettos and the New Downtown.

Izumi

The healing class had been a bum. Izumi had been asked a total amount of 5 questions of which she new the answer to none. Izumi stormed off from the huts and headed to the harbor. The harbor was mostly populated by fishermen one of who Izumi had befriended, Fishermen Yao. Yao had come from the Fire Nation when he was just a younger boy. His father had been in battle with General Iroh from the United Forces. After a life changing injury, Yao's father came to the Southern Water Tribe to get healed and start a new life. He married the young water bender who healed him and had Yao as their only son.

"I can't believe they wont let me go to Republic City! Mei Lynn is going and she's just a beginner! She can't even heal a broken wrist!..I mean I can't either...but that's not the point!" Izumi was sitting on top of a barrel of exploding Jelly going on and on about how she hadn't been one of the chosen healers to go to Republic City. You see...Republic City requested healers from the Water Tribes and if Izumi hadn't arrived late to her healing lesson she would have had been able to volunteer. But like always, there was something always stopping her from going to Republic City. This time is was a 16 year old called Mei Lynn.

"I bet she still wears diapers and needs her mommy to tuck her into bed. I don't need any of that! I'm obviously the better choice for this mission. I mean sure... she's older and I don't like being a healer...it is the most boring thing ever! Did you know I had to sit for an entire hour just to learn how to put a bandage on? We didn't even use are awesome magical powers to heal anything it was just a dumb bandage! And she put it on wrong. The sticky side was touching the wound. That's not how you put it on. First you're supposed to clean the wound and then..what was I saying again...oh right!.." She went on and on spilling her guts out to Yao.

Yao had been taking inventory quietly as Izumi chirped her little mind away. Most people would have become annoyed of her, but something about her spicy attitude made Yao very interested in the way this little girl thought. Yao had become a father to Izumi. When ever she was down Yao comforted her, and when she needed someone to talk to he was there to listen. "Yah wanna know what I think? I think yah shoul' march yah li'l feet downta them healing places and demand to be put on that'er boat." Izumi's face light up with joy. "Yes why hadn't I thought of that before?" Izumi jumped down from the barrels and stood up tall with her hand up in the air in a victorious pose. "I'm going to march right down there and be like 'Miss Niyok I don't care what you say but I'm going to Republic City'. Yeah that's exactly what I'm gonna do! Thanks Yao!" Izumi gave Yao a small hug before racing down to the healing huts. Yao gave a small chuckle as he watched the fiery kid disappear.

"Why did I come down this way?" Xavier's voice trailed off, he had met another dead end. Turning back, he went back to the fork and took the alternate route. I can hear voices beyond this corner... Turning around the corner, he nearly crashed into a delivery truck. Hey, this place is familiar... It was the Trader's market. He had come here to pick up supplies for his mother's restaurant before.

Squeezing his way through the crowd, he caught a glimpse of downtown before he crashed into a man in a trench coat, nearly falling backwards, but the man didn't flinch.

"Sorry," He quickly apologised, "Are you okay?"

Ryo

Consumed by his thoughts Ryo walked in a fast pace through the Trader's Market. He clutched the scimitar close to him under his coat. By now he knew two things, one if he carried the package in plain sight he was sure to get mugged and two if he drew too much attention to himself he was sure to get mugged. Either one of those two options ended up with him and a black eye, something Ryo wanted to avoid at all costs.

There seemed to be more people than usual so Ryo elbowed his way threw the crowed keeping a tight grip on his scimitar. While he was too busy scanning the crowd for any immediate danger, Ryo missed the guy who crashed into him. The crash seemed to do more damage to the guy who nearly fell backwards, but Ryo still reacted as if he would have with any mugger.

In a swift series of movements, Ryo let go of the scimitar, placed his foot on top of it, plopped open the canteen of water he carried, bended the water into a ball on his left hand, and prepared for the worst.

It took Ryo a moment to realize that the guy who crashed into him wasn't trying to steal from him and was already apologizing. Ryo's face reddened a bit since he had now drawn some attention from the crowd. Relaxing his stance, placing the water back into the canteen and grabbing his scimitar from the ground, Ryo gave the guy an apology. "My bad, thought you were a... doesn't matter. I'm well. Are you okay?"

"Woah," Kano murmured, watching him waterbend the water back into his canteen, before grounding himself back to earth again.

"Y-yeah," He stammered,"I'm perfectly fine but you're a waterbender! Who'd you learn to waterbend from?" Kano's curiosity felt like it was on needles. Despite the trouble his curiosity-which he inherited from his father- caused for him at times, he couldn't help it.

Ryo

Ryo was baffled at the guy's curiosity. His's eyes widened in a disbelief expression. Was he really trying to make conversation to a person who almost picked a fight with him? Points for boldness. Ryo pondered for a bit whether he should trust this stranger or if he should just lie his way out of it and continue on his way, but there was something about this guy's curiosity that reminded him of his sister Izumi.

"I uh... I learned from Master Hirou. One of the best waterbenders in the Southern Water Tribe." Ryo gave a small smile. He was proud to be called one of Master Hirou's students. Master Hirou was a tough instructor using methods of life vs. death situations in order to teach his students. Ryo remembred coming home crying to his parents about being left alone near the tundra to face a pack of wolves while Izumi would come back thrilled to have faced a tiger seal in order to save the otter-penguin babies. Being a surviving student of Master Hirou was a great honor.

"Damn... I wish I could learn from someone like that..." Kano's voice trailed off,"I only have a bunch of compendiums and scrolls, plus my mother's healing techniques, to learn from." He smiled at the man,"My mother came from the Northern Water Tribe, so I've only practiced the Northern-style of techniques, but what's a Southerner doing in Republic City? Are you immigrating?"

((I keep writing a different name instead of my character's name >.<))

Ryo

Ryo was beginning to ease up to the guy. So Master Hirou is actually known outside of the tribe that's amazing! And even though the guy seemed bummed about only having scrolls and his mother to teach him, Ryo would have loved for his parents to teach him bending, but they were always too busy and wanted to best for him. Ryo felt a twist in his heart as the guy talked about his mother. Ryo missed both his parents a lot but what he missed most was his sister. The next questions took Ryo off guard. What am I doing here? Immigrating? That is none of your business! You have no right to know my life. Who do you think you are?!

Just like that Ryo's expression narrowed and his gaze became menacing. "That doesn't concern you kid." Without any kind of goodbye, Ryo gave half a turn and continued on his way furiously. The nerve of him to ask such an awful question.

Kano watched the back of the man as he walked away, awkwardly confused. What just happe- His thoughts were interrupted when Kano heard a rush of footsteps nearby as reporters began to head to city hall.

Opal walked slowly through the city, searching for a place to do a couple days work. She eventually came to the president's office building. Upon inquiring about odd jobs, she was asked about her skill set. Smirking, she explained her experience in battle. She was let inside, and told she would be helping with security for a lunch full of VIPs. She nodded respectfully, following through the expansive home to be briefed on procedures.

Fei looked at her clock. It's almost time for lunch. Fei nodded.

"Yeah we better head to the Presidential office now. Both of us don't want to be late." Fei ran to the side of the road, stopping a taxi. She opened the door for her guest. "Avatar Jeng, please go ahead inside."

Jeng nodded, stepping into the back seat. "It's a shame. I was really looking forward to seeing those badger-moles." He shrugged, then patted the seat next to him. "Well, duty calls, I guess." He wondered what they were going to discuss at the meeting. Probably stuffy old politics, he thought to himself, from stuffy old politicians.

"We can go see them on your next free time." Fei assured the Avatar, as she closes the door. She take a seat next to the driver, then nod at him. "Yes, sir. That's the Avatar. Stop looking at him that much. We need to go to the president's office, can you hurry up?"

As soon as Fei ordered the driver, the driver quickly stepped on the gas pedal and went so fast that Fei would've ticket him if it were not because she asked him to do it.

"Keep the change." Fei told the driver, as she opened the back door. "C'mon, Avatar. We finally arrived. I hope your stomach is ready for some luxury dinner."

Jeng stepped out the car, his stomach rumbling. "You bet I am. I barely ate anything, save for a couple of rolls." He looked at the large building; it looked very official (as was expected from a government building), and that slightly intimidated Jeng. "I tell you, if you told me a week ago that I would end up being the Avatar, I'd have called you crazy. Quite frankly, I'm still processing it." He walked up to the entrance of the building and opened the door. "Well, let's do this thing, shall we?"

"Good luck, Avatar." Fei smiled. "I can't come inside, but I will be hanging around outside. If you need help or need someone to show you where the toilet is, you can call me."

"I understand," Jeng replied, nodding. "I think I can take it from here, though. See you later, Officer!" And with that, he walked into the building. He walked up to the front desk, clearing his throat in order to get the receptionist's attention, whom was typing something up. "Excuse me ma'am, but where is the luncheon with the president currently being held?"

"Uppermost floor, left side of the hall, last door on your left," The receptionist answered, not bothering to look up from her typewriter.

Jeng nodded in thanks, not wanting to disturb the woman forward, and took the elevator to the top floor. He did as she instructed, moving to the room where the luncheon was happening. You can do this, bud, he encouraged himself. He gripped the door handle, took a deep breath, and opened the door. "Hello, hello!" he announced with a wave, taking a seat at the table.

Lilly let out a sigh of relief as they saw Republic City in the distance. She quickly grabbed Thorn's hand and ran into the city happily.

After Opal's name had been checked out, and her reputation passed along, she was assigned to the president's daughter. Following the girl through the building, she had to make an effort not to roll her eyes every five seconds. The girl came off as extremely shallow, which rubbed the traveler the wrong way. She pushed her personal feelings aside. It was good money. Her long legs kept pace with the taller girl easily, and she blocked out the lecture she was giving on how long skirts with long slits were so last year. The Fire Nation native glanced down at her clothing. The long, slitted skirt allowed for ease of movement when fighting, unlike a regular skirt. And heaven forbid she wear trousers instead of a skirt in her mother's house. The habit stuck. Opal could not have been more glad when they reached the meeting room and she switched topics to babbling about some sports star that would be attending. She took up her post at the girl's right hand side, three steps back from the table without a word and stood with her arms crossed, watching the lunch closely. Suddenly, the door flew open and a kid walked in, saying hello to everyone. Opal's jaw dropped a little when she realized that it was the Avatar.

After reporting her self to her boss, surprisingly he allowed her to go inside the lunchroom to continue escorting the Avatar and helped the other guards protecting the VIPs.

Fei was walking toward the lunchroom when she see how Jeng make his entrance and that it certainly surprised everyone.

Fei cleared her throat to make her presence known to Avatar, before whispering. "Wow what an entrance."

Opal recovered herself in a matter of seconds. She watched with interest as the Avatar's guard appeared. She had to keep half an ear on her charge, who was still lamenting about the sport star not being there yet. Opal glanced at the empty spot next to the teenage girl, hoping it would be filled soon so she would stop whining.

"You shush," Jeng scolded, pointing his finger at Chen. "I'm new to meetings, cut me some slack, Chen." He looked around the room, eyeing two other girls who had recently entered. "Who are they?" Jeng asked her, pointing towards them.

"Just call me Officer, or Fei... Whatever." Fei cleared her throat again. It's easy for her to recognize who they are. "I'm surprised that you never see the girl on somewhere before. That's the President's daughter... And her guard, I assume."
