Hi, all!

First off, please forgive me for the lack of formatting - I just hopped over here from another site, so I need some time to adjust to different BBCodes. Thank you!!

So, I'm here in search of some fun and exciting ideas for a dragon-centered roleplay. In the past, I've had many dragon rider RPs, and I don't think I've ever NOT had fun with them. Many of the novels I've practiced on and the one I'm currently working on involve dragons and dragon riders. To keep my juices going and my fingers flying, I want to add a roleplay to the mix. So, I wanna know if there are any dragon or dragon rider RPs that are currently going on. If so, are they accepting new players? I'd love a link!

If not, I have a few ideas. These projects - whichever one we choose - can span the range of a small group of players to a larger group. However, I would like you all to keep in mind that, like you all, I do have a life outside of roleplay, and there may be days where I cannot get online. If that's no bother at all, let's get to brainstorming!

Here are my ideas so far:
Falling of the Leaves

  • Setting: Ancient forest, its name lost to legend. Time, itself, has been lost, as all who grow within the forest stay within the forest. It seems endless, almost as though it encompasses the world. There are all sorts of races, both humanoid and others. Dragons mostly live within their own societies, but they often trade and communicate with the mortals. However, they often look down on those who are not their kind.
  • Plot: The story would begin with a dragon leader dying - something that never happens. Perhaps an ancient one tied to the forest, itself. The death of this dragon sends others of its race into a panic. If we choose to do a dragon rider plot, we could bring in a mortal leader who has been given a vision from the trees, who states that the races must come together to save the forest, as the death of the dragon is a mere symptom of the disease wreaking havoc on their home. If it's just dragons, perhaps they come to this conclusion themselves, or they attempt to find help outside of the forest -if that's a possibility for them.

Heart of a Mountain
  • Setting: This story would be more of an open world with varying landscapes and cultures spread all over the place. Many wars have raged in the past, but one thing is absolutely certain: in all the years that the world has endured, the active volcano that is at the heart of the landmass has never once gone dormant. It is in the heart of this volcano that the dragons are said to live.
  • Plot: This story would begin with that volcano going dormant. Dragons - once creatures of myth and legend - have suddenly invaded all parts of the known world. Villages have been burned, and fires rage across varying countrysides. For this one, if we choose to do a rider plot, it could be people chosen from different societies to go and slay the dragons. Instead of slaying, they learn of how the heart of the volcano has suddenly gone cold, and the dragons are searching everywhere to find a cure, for they fear that if the heart doesn't reignite, the whole world will go cold. For the dragon-only story, we simply remove the rider aspect.

Finding a Song
  • Setting: The only known world is floating in an endless sky. Nothing but a myriad of light and darkness seem to hold up this floating landmass. Those who fall from the edge of the world are doomed to an endless fall until they inevitably die - that is unless they can fly. Everything on the island seems to hum and sing with the sound of a wind that always blows around the edges from seemingly nowhere. Buildings are often made of a strange, glass-like crystal that sings hollow notes as the air blows through it. The world is always bathed in an endless twilight, so time is kept via sparkling candles.
  • Plot: The wind has stopped. There is no sound, no breeze. And all those who were originally capable of flight, primarily the revered dragons, have lost their ability to do so. The world quakes and shudders with nothing to hold it in place, and the twilight that has been their nights and days is suddenly getting darker. All seems lost, and everyone is waiting for the inevitable demise of their home when young dragons choose to find the source of the winds again and bring back stability and song to their home.

For any of these, I was thinking to allow open creativity in building the dragons - as in what the dragon looks like, how it acts, its breath weapon, etc. Of course, there would be some limitations. Everything would need some sort of explanation. For the roleplays where the dragons are built to fly, for example, having a dragon without wings would need an explanation of how the dragon flies with the others. Breath weapons can't be this thing of ultimate destruction. In any good roleplay, there is always a balance of strengths and weaknesses, and the characters are supposed to be built with flaws that can be developed throughout the story.

For those who wouldn't simply wish to create your own dragons, I have a website (that's going through some remodeling right now) that has all of my written dragon species on their own dedicated page, which I would be happy to provide if needed.

Please, let me know what you think! If you have any suggestions, I am happy to build into any one of these three stories or even create a new one!

I adore everything about all of the plots, and would gladly participate in any (or all) of these!

Awesomesauce! I'm happy to hear there's some interest. Which plots do you guys like best? Any ideas on fleshing out the stories of them?

OMG I can't believe to find you here. You might not remember me but we did dragon RP back in around 2015 on another site starts with I xD The Mercy of Inhalla <3
I remember you because your RP was memorable. Sadly I had to leave the RP due to life matters =(

I wish I can join this one, but already have several RPs in my hands, so good luck to you! I totally recommend Mowkie as GM guys xD

I like the Heart of the Mountain and Finding a Song plots. I like the idea of exploring the world and meeting all sorts of strange creatures and people living there. However, I also find the idea of flightless dragons to be interesting, and a world that embraces music/song reminds me of Golden Treasure: The Great Green, which I adore.

Heya, Dovinique!! Did you go by a different name on Iwaku? I'm glad to know that there are some people on this site that used to be a part of that community, too. Funny story about that role play: it's going to be my first trilogy. At least the basis of the story is. Just with fewer characters. I ended up revamping it into "Light Up the Dragon's Eyes," which followed the ruined city of Ranas. Also a possible trilogy, which I've sparked some ideas on.

This will probably be something open at all times, for people to come and go on, so if you ever decide you want to do something with me again, just lemme know! And thanks for the kind words. <3

Both do sound interesting. I have to admit, I find the challenge of flightless dragons intriguing. And because it's a unique location, we could probably come up with all sorts of awesome critters, cultures, and environments to explore. However, with Heart of a Mountain, there is that classic dragon love there. The whole idea of good vs evil.

Hey, everyone, just a heads up. I typically let interest checks go for about a week before a full decision is made. If more than five people are interested within the week, though, and there is an overwhelming story decision before that time is up, I will be happy to get us started early. I'm already putting some more development on Heart of a Mountain, just in case, but not so much that I won't enjoy developing the other two. More to come!

Like I said earlier, if any of you have ideas for any of these stories (or other ones), do let me know. Even something like a race you'd like to see or some kind of culture you'd like to add. Even if it's as simple as a weird tree design. If you want it to remain a secret from everyone else (to enjoy the reactions of your fellow players), feel free to also PM me. I love seeing the creativity of other role players.

Have you ever read any of the Books of the Raksura? As far as world building goes, I've always thought that the series did a very good job. I think it would be neat to take a similar approach to how different species all occupy small portions of the world, and large cities are rare. However, I'm also totally open to whatever you have already in mind ^33^

If there was one thing that I would love to see, it would be giant forests with trees large enough to make dragons feel tiny. ^D^

I have not, but I'm very interested! I'll look the series up and see if I can get it at my library.

As for giant forests, I am absolutely game for that!! Reminds me of Nausicaa, but without the bugs.

Martha Wells is my favorite author. I highly recommend checking her out. She also writes the Murderbot Diaries, which is my favorite book series.....there's just so much to love in that series. I think the first book is around 2-3 dollars in digital format. I think you can get it on one of the library apps for free too.

To quote the intro, in which Murderbot introduces themselves:

" I could have become a mass murderer after I hacked my governor module, but then I realized I could access the combined feed of entertainment channels carried on the company satellites. It had been well over 35,000 hours or so since then, with still not much murdering, but probably, I don't know, a little under 35,000 hours of movies, serials, books, plays and music consumed. As a heartless killing machine, I was a terrible failure."

Yes! My name was Azula there. I hope your trilogy will come out booming! That's so cool that you find inspirations from RPing, it's like brainstorming with extra fun included xD
Will tell you surely! If I ever have free time and you're still open for a new character to hop in, I'd love to join you =)

Would love to see Finding a Song be a thing! The timeless world seemed to be center on dance and music which is always cool. It's almost like they are living on a cosmic music box(or cosmic organ^^) of God! I personally prefer 'dragon only' plots.
Tbh I am interested to see any of the plots be realized!

I may need to include a poll on dragons only vs dragon and rider. The Finding a Song would probably be done better with just dragons, while I feel Heart of a Mountain would be better with both dragons and riders, especially with how I've developed it so far. Please, everyone who is interested, let me know which you prefer: dragons and riders or just dragons. If you had to choose one, which would it be?

In angy regards id rather BE a dragon as opposed to riding one

It pretty much depends on which plot we go with, since I feel about the same. That said, I am more interested in playing as a dragon.

Ooh, ooh! I'm interested!

Love dragon/dragon rider RPs. I personally have no preference for dragon/dragon rider, I can definitely play both.

May I ask if it's possible to check out the website you mentioned?

Sure thing! I'll PM you the link, as to abide by the site rules. A lot of it is undergoing reconstruction, so bear with me. Plus, I'm kind of lazy and haven't posted all of my info on it, such as my magic system, etc.

Looking at the polls, we are 50/50 between Heart of a Mountain and Finding a Song. So, I believe the tie-breaker will be dragons vs dragons and riders.

THOSE FOR DRAGONS ONLY, PLEASE POST!!

You have until tomorrow afternoon before I ask for votes on dragons and riders!

This includes everyone who has already cast their vote previously. I want to be sure I get a fully accurate count. Thank you, guys!

EDIT:

Also, I need brainstorming buddies on this. These are temp stories. Stories I have not developed much at all. So, anyone who wants to help me develop these worlds, PM me, please! We can do a group brainstorm thingie and create an awesome world together! XD

EDIT EDIT:

Please, please note that I do not cater to the furry community. While I understand that everyone has their own kinks or whatever, I am not one who finds enjoyment in such things, and I can't run a dragon-only roleplay if it's going to involve romantic, humanesque scenes. Dragons are not humans and should not be played as such. If we are to play a dragon-only RP, romance is out the window. Thank you!

I might be a bit late to this, but I voted other. So, hear me out:

I have some ideas set up around dragon slayers coming to a new continent. They are basically being charged with hunting and killing them in all their forms as civilization slowly crawls across the new frontier in its expansion. The dragons are little more than animals, and the slayers are viewed as protagonists (though there is plenty of room for anti-heroes) and the dragons are bestial antagonists. There is no epic, world-saving overture. Basically, a wild continent of dragon slaying is to be had by the participating group. Riders are limited to small wyverns, but the big boys are all quarry waiting for the slaying. :)
