There was no gunfire yet. In fact, Frank could hear the Commandant when he uncovered his ears. “Oh... oh, hell,” he sighed, a slight chuckle getting past his stony exterior. “Well this is awkward.” Apologizing wasn’t Castle’s strong suit, apparently. One thing was certain, though; introductions were long overdue. “Frank Castle, the Punisher,” he stared while collecting himself to continue the march.

Bayonetta stopped and giggled somewhat nervously. Perhaps she was the one paranoid of humans. “We’ll get used to each other’s company,” she said lightheartedly. “In the meantime, I worry about everyone.” She then turned around to scan for threats. “They call me ‘Bayonetta’,” she answered when her turn came, interrupting her own search to wink at Felix. She sorely missed Lt. Col. Kilgore, her own set of demon rocket launchers.

Felix nodded stoically at the woman known as Bayonetta, perhaps eagerly so as he sensed that this woman, despite abnormal proportions, had a shared interest in explosive ordinance. He spoke up with a curt nod; a soft 'click!' of the MJOLNIR helmet's external speakers activating. "Th' name's Felix, Ma'am. Nice tae mak yer acquaintance."

The leader of the fireteam tensed, and his rifle moved a notable inch up at the sudden attempted attack from the massive bipedal lizard. His gaze remained deadlocked on the giant for a few seconds, as if to say 'try that again, I dare you.' despite the radioactive cloud setting off his Geiger counter within his helmet. Slowly, he relaxed his stance as he took a few paces closer to the fidgeting Commandant as he nodded once, offhandedly, to the Punisher and everyone else present who introduced themselves. "Castle, Bayonetta, Inui, Goku." He said, making a mental note of everyone's names who spoke up. He glanced over toward the woman who'd stop solid in her tracks, before looking back to the onyx armored man. He hated breaching protocol, but as far as he knew, they were the only UNSC element in the A-O and half of the group here seemed to be enigmatic creatures, or civilians. He paused, then reluctantly answered. "I'm Jack. To my right is Ellie, and the two on the left are Felix and Hailey. Nice to meet all of you. What's the current objective and who's taking point?" Jack asked, sounding rather to-the-point. Truthfully, introductions could very much wait, and the situation didn't seem to be getting any easier in the moment.

"We're aiming to destroy a fragment of the space monster known as Cthulu, not to be confused with Cthulu-chan, who is with us. I'm leading."​

Shadow glared at her. Then turned away and walked a short distance away. He just stood there his back to them now debating whether or not he should leave and try to do this himself or stay with the group and possibly end up in a fight that'd get him or someone else killed. Or he could just go rouge. Attack both this group and the enemy itself. He was neutral at one time and he could easily become it again. Then the final option was to turn a full-blown traitor. He could help their enemy kill these people. Try to get in with its ranks. Sadly his drive to fulfill his promise to protect Earth from any threat until he died eliminated the last two options. Could he go against the promise perhaps? No. That'd be dishonoring his memories of Maria. So that left stay and help or go and die in the process of trying to kill this thing alone.
Goku at this point just stared at the armored men. Powering down from his Kaio-ken. "It's nice to meet all of you." He said walking closer and holding his hand out.

The Commandant had continued upon the same path as he always had done so along with the group… not needing the time to waste such an important task with small talk of all things. He especially didn’t like that tone of that damn harlot who was not only beginning to mess with his nerves somewhat, but also the lack of seriousness that didn’t match the situation they were located within. Of course, he could let such a thing go, why get mad over such when he has more pressing matters to attend to. Which was apparently the sudden amount of respect and willingness from others to follow his commands, when told of maintaining formation and such. He would have expected anything else but compliance other than a couple few. It seems that they either trusted their entire lives upon his tactical sense or thought of him highly from his speech. Especially with the Knight known as ‘Rune Kindle’ who followed some sort of ‘lord’, perhaps a god from the way he puts it. In all honesty, he would have cared little about whatever these damned people pray to nowadays if it meant that they were happy, but the topic of artillery such as flaming arrows or cannons did bring a mental laugh to his head.

So, while ignoring the comment the strange eared man had made, he was just about to respond to the Knight… until…



The light… the precious aura of safety that it had provided against the forces of the dark, warding away anything that see it fit to harm them… diminished, now reduce to the small flames of the only source of heat they had, their torches. Grinding his teeth together, he knew that there was only so much time to react before whatever it was in the darkness went after him. If one were to look at the Commandant, they would have found him quickly fiddling with his flintlock pistol, placing some sort of strange bullet into the device as he pulled back the main firing mechanisms of it. May luck be with their side. Now, it was time to begin his action. Barking out a new series of commands, the Commandant said out loud just enough for the party hear

“Soldiers! Prepare for a fight! I fear the worst has arrived, and we only have so much time before whatever it is out there attempts to prey upon us. I only ask for your aid in watching over the very lands around us, even the air itself… for this beast may as well attempt to attack us using the very cover of darkness it has created. But worry not… prepare for something a little bit more bright now.”

Before raising his hand into the air, his flintlock pistol at the ready to be fired. He wasn’t sure if the others weren’t capable of seeing far into the dark, but he wasn’t gonna take any chances. So, with a pull of the trigger, and a loud ‘pop’ noise being created from the pistol, a bright, red light had been fired into the air, lighting up the air far more than the standard torches had provided, allowing others to see far further than only a couple of inches away from them.

Kotlinsky's attempt to reveal the threat succeeded.

As the flare burst into air, a horrifyingly large silhouette was illuminated several meters in front of the group. From what the light revealed, it could be determined that whatever it was had several spiny appendages, twisting upward into a contorted, fleshy mass. As the light touched its skin, the creature screeched in agony, stabbing at the group wildly with its long, barbed legs.

Colonel Radec, unable to dodge fast enough, was impaled in one swift motion — the attack shredding a basketball-sized hole in his armor. The limb retracted, dragging the skewered Radec back into the shadows. An unholy crunching noise could be heard as the beast descended upon him.

"A fragment of Cthulhu!" Nadia screamed, cowering under her book. "Don't let it eat you!"

Despite the situation, Tatsu grinned.

"So, ya finally show your face, huh?" Balling his fists, Tatsu dashed at the creature. A spiky limb came at him with unnerving speed, yet somehow he managed to dodge the strike and deliver a right hook to the side of the creature's extended leg.

It wasn't very effective. With a single jerk, the creature smacked Tatsu several meters into the air. After some impressive air-time, the impact against the ground knocked the wind straight out of the ex-yakuza.

Well, seems like all it needed was a little talking and some convincing to calm things down, heh, perhaps he should use this tactic more often in the future, it is often more convincing to take up a false persona and act than to simply be commanding of others around you and threatening their lives… although, it was clear that the latter wouldn’t work here, and the former would be more tougher to keep up, especially in the heat of battle. For now, however, he’ll make sure to remain as ‘normal’ as he can be possibly. Only breathing in and out, the usual little emotions that his body normally conveys in body stance other than a well-disciplined form, the Commandant returned a nod when learning the names of the four armored soldiers in front of him, with him returning a name of his own.

“Kotlinsky, Commandant and leader of the Iron Brigade of the Germanic forces… as for the current situation, we ar-“

It was only then the usual occurred behind him. Chaos, at its finest. Wonderful. And it all started because that damned lizard had the gall to call itself ‘leader’, hah, as if. That beast couldn’t even leave a group of peasants and militia even if he wanted to, much less, stop them from running away at the very sight of him. And that ‘ultimate life form’ was back at it again with his senseless bickering. He’ll probably have to naturally tune out that annoying voice of his, or else, he’ll go insane at this rate. And even that didn’t stop the conflict he started not even a few minutes to their important journey. If this was some sort of punishment by the gods to help aid this clearly (not all is under such, but for the apparent ones) dysfunctional group or a test to see if he could lead them to victory, he wasn’t even sure anymore. Luckily, he didn’t even need to be the one to start the reparations to stop all of this. That ‘Eldritch’ creature already going ahead and attempting to calm down the two parties, to which, the ‘Ultimate life form’ went first.

Some peace and quiet… lovely, although, he is sure that it will not last anytime soon due to the very situation at hand. Turning to the four armored individuals, the man made a cough as he looked behind them just in case said abomination going after a page was behind them, and if he was proven wrong, he would continue.

“Do excuse their attitude… not many individuals here often have the… ‘chemistry’ to work well with one another. But I am sure things will improve as time moves on. As for our objective, our main goal is attempting to stop the resurrection of some Eldritch God known as ‘Cthulhu’, for the very fate of the Universe lies within our victory. As of now, we have been teleported onto some tundra world in which a page of the Necromomicon has been located, which is needed by these cultists to revive their very god. A piece of this Cthulhu is also here and ready to strike at any moment now… so I do say to prepare now. As for the one currently in charge, Nadia, an apprentice of the one who summoned us here, so-“

The Officer barked his commands, as he then aimed his flintlock pistol at the beast, before firing at it. Now, if any old individual were to fire this weapon, it would have been weakened… normal… but he was no mere normal individual.

C-Chan’s tentacles shifted from protecting the group to surround the spider creature, before grabbing its legs and beginning to pull “I’ve got it chain, finish it off!” She shouted as the tentacles continued to pull, trying to rip the legs off

inui extended his arms and focused on healing anyone who took damage. He had no attack magic at the time.

The man in the robe darted forward, taking out his greatsword and beginning to attack it violently.

A wolf, with barbed wire laced around his body, ran forward, attacking the spider without regret.

The darkened beast felt his energy drain and his strength wasn’t as full as usual.

Daxter yelled “Hold on a little longer!”

Dark had sparks flying out of his body and he dug into the ground, trying to hold his position as the whole group was starting to grow into chaos.

He threw a few small dark eco balls at the creature to test the waters but pulled back and roared. When it got closer, he’d rip with his black claws, and then pepper with dark eco balls.

He stepped back maintaining distance as the stranger with the other coat commanded.

Even as time moved slower for the Spartans when their reflexes engaged, the beast was faster; impaling the armored man Jack had spoken to and dragging him back into the darkness. With their nightvision engaged, the group of four didn't utter so much as a word during the chaos. Jack and Ellie dropped to their knees after the group had placed some distance between themselves and the appendages; raising their rifles and firing off a series of deafening staccato reports directed center mass as Hailey positioned herself a few meters behind the group; adopting to a crouch and firing her suppressed anti-material rifle aimed at the creature's tendrils. Felix remained upright; leaning back slightly as to accommodate a leveled Grenade Rifle. With a tubular 'TH-UMP!' and a mechanical cyclic click, a 40mm High Explosive grenade round went screaming straight at the creature.​

Once the monster appeared, Godzilla took Cthulu-chan's advice and ran up to the spider, grabbing one of it's legs and lifting the entire thing above his head before throwing it to the air. "If anyone hase an explosive beam or something, fire it at the thing, now!"

Status: Cold and uneasy​

It didn't take minutes for the group's readiness against a threat. Turns out there were outside forces among the party, friendlies turns out. Given the tension, it would be easy to mistaken a few strangers as potential threats. She too thought of it. Despite the easing of the situation, her bow remains drawn at hand.

Something is still creeping under her skin. Gazing back towards the dark as the words of the apprentice echoes back in her mind, the thought never left her alone. Miscommunication with the commandant, she was under the impression of slaying a beast of sorts. She did not wish for it to come true whatsoever, feeling regret now that the flare caught the eyes of the party.

It was a large spider-like creature. It lurks in the dark making its features and details difficult to look at and describe. Regardless, this appears to be the very target that they are searching for. Even with a drawn bow, she felt her body froze, not in the cold, in horror. The creature's swift motion of one of their legs quickly impales a body to what she assumed was a party member she did not notice from earlier, it was only a brief reveal drag of the body but it's enough to stun her from where she stood.

To stare upon this creature is a foolish idler's move and luckily the booming voice of the commandant shatters the barrier of that deaf ears of hers. Ordered to attack the creature with full might despite the sapping energy constantly leeching everyone around them.

Raising her bow against the dark creature, drawing the bowstring back with her iron arrow in hand. What could have been easy for others, she pulled back the bowstring with extra strength applied as she could even barely set the shot quick. She shivers, her aim is uncertain of damage let alone hitting a creature in the dark. She could not even begin where to aim despite the creature's movements is decreased thanks to an odd party member who can take on the creature head-on. She also cannot explain for some reason after the commandant's first shot at the enemy her aim feels assisted. A strum of bass is heard upon firing the arrow. Hopefully, the shot lands somewhere within the creature's legs or main body.

Repositioning, with her slow attack speed and underwhelming weapon damage. She volunteered herself to be of other use. Moving around the back of the middle formation to avoid crossfire and collision of other mid-party formation members. It was a rather long trip around, given her inconsistent rhythm of walking and running. Approaching Nadia fast with heavy footsteps and breath.

"P-please, we must move you... Further away from here and... Into middle... Formation. It is n-not safe here..." ​

Her cold gloved hand was placed on the frightened mage. If the apprentice can detect a magic pool aura from an individual, she may notice a faint portion of it coming from the clad-in-black archer. They were freezing but still strong enough to fight the creature before them. Waiting for Nadia's response, she slowly prepared another arrow directed towards the beast, firing after regardless of Nadia's reply.

THE PUNISHER

All it took was one little push to force everything back into chaos. One person had already been killed--a heavily armored man, at that. C-chan's tentacle grab gave the Punisher a small window to attack the eldritch horror, and attack he did. Aiming carefully with his Colt from the middle ranks of the group, he fired several shots at its legs on one side, aiming to immobilize it by damaging the joints. He hoped the high kinetic energy of his .45 rounds would at least rip and bludgeon the creature's tendons and ligaments if they didn't pierce.

His gun quickly ran empty and he needed to reload. While doing so, he shimmied towards Tatsu. "Shit, you look rough. Can you get up?" He offered his shoulder.

Bayonetta

A fun idea crossed Bayonetta's mind. She drew a small circle with her hands, the resulting purple image being far more complex than a simple shape. A paper-thin headset made of the glowing demonic lettering appeared on her head. Then, in the top right corners of Fireteam Maverick's helmet displays, there appeared a similar icon. Likewise, the insignia appeared at the bottom of one of the slits in Kotlinsky's helmet.

"Hello, darlings," Bayonetta uttered into their comms. The fidelity was uncharacteristically low, like that of an older radio. "I'll be keeping touch with you by my own means. Now, cover me!"

When they were all ready, she launched her assault. Following the tentacles assaulting the spider creature, the witch leapt onto one and used it as a springboard to gain height. Her jump followed a high arc over Godzilla's head and out of the grenade's predicted blast radius. Near the peak of her jump, she took aim and rained her weakened magic bullets upon the target to stress its chitin. Despite her guns looking like oversized derringers, they fired well over two rounds each, totaling thirteen from the ones in her hands. The landing seemed harder than usual, the graceful fighter grunting upon landing. Making as quick a recovery as she could, she rolled away in search of hard cover.

Jackson found himself momentarily surprised as the strange symbol materialized in his HUD; even more so as the icon appeared to 'pulse' with the woman's spoken voice; reaching out to all four members of the fireteam. His response was swift as his movements as he dropped back to hard-tap Felix on his rightmost pauldron. "Copy out. Two, we're focusing fire on that thing. Three, Four, watch your spacing and cover Bayonetta." Due to her being interconnected within the MJOLNIR's systems, she would quite clearly hear a two-tone signal that served as a silent acknowledgment from the aforementioned Spartans.

The fireteam split into two different paths; with Jack and Felix circling around to open up on the being's appendages. Felix's movements nearly appeared in a blur as he broke open the breech of his rifle, slotted a grenade inside the tube, and flicked his wrist up; sending the breech connecting with the rest of the frame in a satisfying click- only to pull the trigger a fraction of a second later. The two armored women both broke from their previous firing positions; sprinting over to the witch rather quickly as they stayed a staggered distance apart from each other; ensuring that they not only were well spaced to evade anything the monster was going to throw at them, yet also kept the firing lines of the other group members in check as well. Upon arrival, they dug their heels in the ground and stopped on a dime as they whirled around and began opening fire on the weakened chitinous plates with their weapons.

"Three and Four, covering." Hailey's cold, emotionless voice spoke clearly in an address to the rest of the team. Jack and Felix advanced when they were able; keeping a respectable distance away from the length of the monstrosities' tendrils while not letting up on their own assault of the eldritch entity.

“Oh shit!” Tony exclaimed and immediately began shooting his pulsar blasts at the Damn spider! “this is what I get for drinking before a fight!”

"KAIO-KEN x2!" Goku yelled as his power multiplied and he held his hands above his head. "KEEP IT PINNED EVERYONE ELSE GIVE ME YOUR SOME OF YOUR ENERGY!" A blue energy ball already forming above his hands, as he drew energy from other living things on other such planets nearby. It contiuned to grow in size as he drew more energy.

As the Spartan team attacked the spider they heard the sound of explosions from a distance, could have easily been compared to the tungsten firing cannon of the M808B.

Literally a few seconds later a few rounds of high incendiary rounds impacted the spider and bathing the area in white hot phosphorus, illuminating the area more effectively then the flare or the glow of C-Chan’s tentacles.

However due to the intense nature of the phosphorus chemical, the burning sensation was a bit too much and she was forced to let go of the eldritch spider, but not before pulling off two of its legs “OW!! that hurt! Why would you soldiers use an AoE explosive with the potential of harming a friendly” C-Chan stated

Lead pierced flesh as Kotlinsky fired off at the creature, which hissed in pain and retreated its injured limb. C-Chan subsequently attempted to bind its legs, which succeeded momentarily before it broke free with a flurry of violent jerks in all directions.

Abruptly, the monster spun around, protecting those of its limbs which had already been exposed to the light. Fireteam Maverick opened fire, but bullets ricocheted off the hardened armor of the remaining legs. As Felix's grenade hurtled toward the creature, it pressed its huge legs together tightly, forming a protective wall of armor. An explosion rang out, but when the smoke cleared, the creature was still standing – though it appeared the light of the explosion had weakend its armor.

Jak's eco ball attack chewed through some of the creature's flesh, but its somewhat-intact armor still managed to absorb enough damage that it didn't falter. The man in the robe and the wolf who attacked at close range would have managed to get a few good strikes in, but rapid jabs from razor sharp limbs kept them from getting close enough for their attacks to really be effective.

Godzilla grabbed one of the creatures legs and lifted it off the ground, allowing some of the group's attacks to strike its underbelly. Screeching, the creature retaliated by swiping out with one of its appendages, slashing him across the leg. Another attack was aimed at Bayonetta as she flew overhead, but its spider-like joints restricted the movement and caused it to miss.

With horrifying speed, the creature began repeatedly drilling each of its spiked legs into the ground, kicking up large debris of ice and rock that pelted the entire party.

From across the battlefield, Nadia ducked fast as a boulder flew just an arms length over her head. She rose and nodded quickly at Eleanor. "Yes, we should hurry. But– the light, they have to know about the light!" Nadia cupped her hands around her mouth and shouted over the gunfire and crashing debris. "It's the light! It's weakened by light!!"

Not far away, Tatsu groaned as he sat upright. "Did I get him?" He asked, taking Frank's shoulder. Though he wobbled a little, Tatsu managed to get up and stay standing. "...Guess not." He eyed the beast spitting up earth at everyone, then turned as Nadia's voice rang out. "Light, huh?" His attention turned to the torch he'd dropped on the ground, which he picked up and held like a spear. "Well then, how's this?" With a sharp exhale, Tatsu launched his torch at the creature, the flame-end spearing towards its armored skin.

"Agh, bleedin' 'ell! DANGER-CLOSE, MA'AM!" Felix yelled; mentally kicking himself for not warning of the grenade's radius during his attack on the abomination. What sounded like the signature tank of their military forces got the fireteam's attention momentarily, and for a moment, they thought that others from their domain had made it. Unknown shells streaked into the creature and combined with the firepower from the group, it was then when the creature decided to form an armored shell; prompting Ellie to address over comms. "Ballistics have zero effect; recommend waiting for an opening!"

"Three, Four; maintain your cover on Bayonetta. Felix-" Jack was cut off by the sudden ground-slam of the creature. Although they were out of the beast's tendrils, it didn't stop the entirety of the fireteam from being pelted with debris. Everyone would be able to see the sudden, bright flicker of the MJOLNIR's golden-white energy shields as they activated against the velocity of the mixed debris projectiles hitting the electron field. While the creature's attack did cause a minor loss in balance, it wasn't enough to throw them off their feet. Jack shifted on his feet and backpedaled. "-Distance! Everyone, back up!"

He heard the shout of the woman, and not wasting a moment's time, barked out another order. He hoped to whatever god was there, that this actually worked. "Illuminate it!" The team complied; toggling their weapon's taclights with a flick of their thumbs and keeping their guns trained on the monstrosity. "Hold fire! If it presents an opening, engage. Conserve your ammo." Jack finished speaking, silently wishing that he was informed about this earlier. Ellie and Hailey only broke their pattern to ensure Bayonetta was protected; dropping to a crouch near her predicted landing spot as a massive spear sailed over their heads.
