Laughing at the young woman's warning, Amelia nodded. "I know, but it's going to be a long day," the journalist replied with a sense of dread, the lines on her forehead were evidence of her tension that paired concerningly with the dark heaviness that filled her eyes. Despite this, the twenty-seven-year-old woman tried to remain pleasantly optimistic, sipping her coffee carefully. For a moment the darkness in her eyes brightened at the mention of the man she loved. Naturally, Amelia was an altruistic individual who found comfort in caring for the ones she loved dearly. Intellectually she knew Rachel was just making an excuse for Amelia to stay within the safety of this local establishment but she played along, not really wanting to leave, but too full of her own pride and stubbornness to admit she was fearful. She hated vulnerability. It wasn't a flattering cloak she liked wearing. I wish he wasn't in so much pain. I hate seeing him so fragile. I wish he never sacrificed himself. Stop. You're being selfish. He did the right thing, Amelia. Those people could have died.... But so could he. "He's pulling through, he's a strong man but he definitely has a long road ahead of him before he gets back to where we both want him to be." Shrugging her shoulders, she scraped the edge of her paper lid with her cherry red painted fingernail. I have to finish this before he wakes up. I don't like him being alone. "Thanks for the coffee, Rachel, it's amazing and as much as I would love to stay and chat, I have to go. I have to finish something before he wakes up, actually, but I'll keep you posted. Maybe when he's up to it I'll bring him to say hello. I'll tell him you were thinking of him." Sliding a set of crisp bills into the tip jar Amelia said her usual farewell and headed for the exit. When the door opened, the wind swooshed through the door ringing the bell on the door vigorously before Amelia vanished past the window of the cafe and down the sidewalk to make the rest of the way to the office.
