The Dragon Lord
One would think a world steeped in magic would be used to power.

One would think a society that faced down dragons on a regular basis would be capable of handling a few powerful beings.

One would think that the Twin Academies that churned out heroic (and occasionally villainous) Mage Duos on a regular basis would have some way of combating four beings that referred to themselves merely as "Hunters".

One would, of course, be wrong.

Praedosynes were not a common sight among the Seven Nations, but they were seen often enough for the world at large to know of their existence. They were powerful beings, entirely immune to magic whilst incapable of using it themselves. Their true power, however, was indicated by the horns that grew from their heads- never more than seven, however. It was determined by the mathematicians at the Twin Academies that the number of horns, to the exponential power of itself, was exactly how much more advanced their physical strength, speed, and endurance were compared to normal human beings. Praedosynes were notoriously secretive, to the point that no one knew what their motives were, where they based themselves, or even if they had a loyalty to any banner besides their race-specific creed that they never shared. As such, no one knew what the world was in for until it was far too late.

Four radical Praedosynes, calling themselves "Hunters", would casually stroll into a town and wait to be approached regarding their business. Once they were, they would begin systematically murdering every person and destroying every building that was there. Nothing survived their approach.

Eventually, it became enough of a problem to warrant squadrons of battle-mages being deployed to stop them- it never accomplished anything but getting the men and women killed. One escaped with her life and an arm, and recounted a tale of terror. The Hunters had no true aims, no real desires- they simply destroyed anything in their path because they knew that nothing could stand before them. Not even other Praedosynes could stand in their way- these four were unique among their species for having nine horns apiece, putting them up to the point where even the mightiest of castles and the sturdiest of mountains crumbled before their fists.

A solution was found, but even it was a long shot- contacting the infamous Silent Soldier. His physical strength was in their range, he was a seasoned fighter, a mage of particular renown, and if all that failed, his personal maidservant was a Praedosyne by the name of Anne-Marie, who had been placed in the Soldier's care because no one else would take her- after all, a Praedosyne with 108 horns breaks nearly everything she so much as comes into contact with. However, the Soldier disappeared ages ago, and even in the event of finding him, he was known to be rather . . . disagreeable. As such, a small striketeam was put together with one goal and one only- retrieve a combat-willing Silent Soldier ready to defeat the Hunters. They were ordered to simply commit suicide in the event of failure, as there would be no point in waiting for the Hunters to murder them at that point.

Whew, that was a lot. In any case, I'm assembling a fantasy world practically from scratch, and there is a lot to go over later. For now, however, I don't think it would be wise to go into further detail when I don't even know if this will move!
