Tip to anyone thinking about a major plot twist: Plot twists generally require trust. The greater the shift the plot twist causes the more goodwill it will take for people to want to stay invested, especially in a medium like roleplay where the “audience” is an active contributor to the content, and their own plans, hopes and aspirations may be shattered by the plot twist, particularly if the likelihood of it existing isn’t pre-established.
Long story short, as a rule of thumb it may be best to save plots with big secrets and twists to when you are RPing with more people who already know you in one way or another, unless you can reveal upfront that there’s going to be a big twist so players know it is coming.
