Fandom Fallout: Stories from the Wasteland

Sounds good. Just a reminder: setting anything in Tornado Alley (Kansas ESPECIALLY) is going to be a tricky affair, considering how the only thing we know about the place is the fact that it's plagued with gigantic tornadoes powerful enough to wipe out armored vehicles.

Thus far, the only things confirmed to have made it through are Fire Ants, The Wasteland Survival Guide, and a few dozen Brotherhood of Steel members.

I'd go with either DC, California, Mojave, or somewhere in Colorado. the first three are all settings of games, and the forth is what we know about thanks to all the references to it. Arizona too, maybe.

That all depends on what kind of game you want to run. Do you want a focus on the "people are rebuilding despite the constant threat of raiders and mutant animals" side of Fallout, or the "people are trying to relearn how to be civilized" side of Fallout?

I was hoping to fit in the aspect of "trying to get through the next day of survival, so a place with very little civilization and towns and more barren wastes and undiscovered locations.

In that case, a game set earlier in the setting's timeline would be best. I'll compile a decent list of potential settings that would probably work.

  • California around the time of Fallout 1
  • Mojave Wasteland before House and the NCR came in
  • Most of the American Southwest before Caesar's Legion appeared
  • Mexico some time after the nukes fell
  • Capitol Wasteland before the Brotherhood of Steel came in
  • Chicago or Detroit
  • Florida or Louisiana if you really want to flex those creative muscles

I like Louisiana... Especially New Orleans. Creativity is already flowing... Possibly some paranormal and strange elements kind of like Fallout 3 DLC, "Point Lookout". What do you think?

I'd probably go with the whole Louisiana to florida area of the Southern US if that's the feel you want. Swampy, lotta folklore, creepy shit.

If you feel like writing the setting over from scratch, go ahead. Of course, there's a fair difference between the bayou of Louisiana and the swamps of Maryland. Unless you've visited the Bayou before, I wouldn't try to equate it to Point Lookout.

Agreed, but if we get the whole Southern Belt, our characters would choose our own little spots and we'd possibly be a little spread out between about 4 states.

I wasn't going to base it off of it, I was just saying that it could be similar. And hmmm... I'm not sure. It could be easier if we just do Mojave or Capital but I do like the idea of the South. This is getting complicated.

It'd be best to have everyone start in a single area in one of the Southern Belt, and then we can branch out from there.

We could make so like every month we go to a different location. Though that's require a bit of plot wiggling.

I just would appreciate all humans. Ghouls, not feral, are acceptable. Super Mutants are on the edge of accepted and not because most are barbaric and inhuman, some are though like Marcus.
