Experiences Whats making you angry today? Rp pet peeves

It sounds really petty to say, but my current peeve is people being super aggressive with their rules. It's a person's prerogative to make any rules they wish for their threads, but dang...don't give me a black eye just for reading them. I personally have never ghosted you, nor was I planning on shoving a super-triggering plot bunny in your arms the instant I laid eyes on you, so why am I being made to feel like I just stepped on a landmine surround by t-rexes armed with AP rifles and if I move the wrong way, Imma get monched on at best?

I'm sure that there is a precedent for why the person might feel aggressive towards those issues, but jeez....

It doesn't make me angry exactly but it can push my buttons sometimes when an interest check has something that looks like the embryo of a plot to be discussed and fleshed out (you know, collaboratively?) but then when you throw some of your own ideas at the person it turns out they already have EVERYTHING planned out and essentially want you to play an NPC. 'Woo, you actually guessed a plot point there, champ!' - no, I didn't guess anything, I suggested it because I thought I was in a position to suggest things and co-create the world instead of complying 100% with your pre-made setup. I imagine some people might like having everything invented by someone else (that'd explain the popularity of CC×CC fandom RPs I suppose) but man, I'm not one of them.

1) When there's a roleplay with a cool premise and the rule on character art is "anime only".

2) When roleplays ask for three or more paragraphs. Any more than two just seems arbitrary to me nowadays. If I feel like a response needs three or so paragraphs, I'll write three or so paragraphs. I just want freedom, please!

3) When the rules specify a word count. I honestly understand why this is preferred over asking for a certain number of paragraphs. It just irks me, lol.

4) When there's a roleplay with a cool premise and the GM asks for more than one post per week.

5) When illustrations are used for character art in an M/M roleplay, and all of the characters are bishis or twinks. Just not my type.

Ooooooookay, new pet peeve...

When you finally get ahold of the writing partner who ghosted you and when you ask what happened, you get a three-page, single-spaced, 10-point font diatribe of a bunch of stuff you did wrong over the course of YEARS of roleplaying with this person ....

....and never once was anything addressed beforehand so it could be fixed.

Any numerical requirement makes no sense if it's actually taken seriously, I get that people don't want to get three sentences in exchange for a novella but insisting on a fixed minimum length is counterproductive. Occasionally you just get less to work with and in those cases I'd rather go for a below average post length than add 'detail' (aka pointless descriptions) just to match an arbitrary requirement. Fortunately most interest checks I've seen don't cite a hard limit, a lot of people tend to be happy with "no one-liners please" which is a reasonable enough request.

Planning out a roleplay, talking about possible characters only for the potential partner to say they only play submissive characters. Like what in the heck do you mean? What the exactly are you talking about? You can't just can't play a character without having to put some strange label on their personality or how they're supposed to act? What happened to just playing a character?

Seeing someone's rp requirements exactly matching your own but then finding out it's the only thing you have in common. Not a single plot or fandom you're interested in.

In my experience when someone says they only play submissive character it's a sign to run. It means one of two things.

1. Most of the time in my experience the term tends to be used to describe someone's place in a sexual relationship. So yeah, no, read my freaking ad before you contact me people!

2. Even if it's not being used to describe a sex RP stating the character as submissive means they are wanting a caretaker style RP. Doesn't matter what the relationship type in the RP. Your character must make all the decisions. Your job in the RP is to constantly protect their character. Your character is in anyway perceived as mean their character gets weirdly accepting or breakdown. This also means you will have to try to move the RP. If you can and their character doesn't try to stay in the cabin and argue against the whole plot you previously discussed.

the insane minimum post length demands

i get if it works out for you because you have all that extra time, but i don't. i've got a personal life that takes priority and i will not bother writing about the colour of the sky and the taste of coffee in every post just to make it lengthy. i will write what is necessary to move the story forwards, or whatever i am able to in response to my partner's post.

i never write one-liners, at the very least one paragraph, or one per character. i genuinely don't understand the mentality of demanding 5+ paragraphs and daily replies. i've tried it before and i got so burnt out to the point i didn't want to roleplay at all anymore, because this is what a lot of people want and nothing less. makes finding a decent partner nearly impossible :/

I don't get all the griping over minimum post lengths. It's no different than being incompatible with someone because you don't like their genres or you can't post frequently enough for them. Wouldn't you rather be happy with a partner you're actually compatible with as opposed to forcing longer-length writers to deal with posts they aren't satisfied with, or vice versa? I see all kinds of short paragraph and one-liner ads out there, but it seems like instead of writing with each other, they want to complain about novella writers... >_>

Actually the complaints over post lengths period. It's one of those things that people historically are OBSESSED with bickering with each other over instead of just respecting people's preferences and limits. I don't like one-liners. That's cool. I stay away from those ads. One-liners don't like novella posts. That's cool. They stay away from my ads. That's as simple as it is; we are fundamentally incompatible, and forcing one another to compromise on something as significant as that will just result in us both being unhappy.

I don't like how it results in people tearing apart each other's writing styles. Just...just interact with the people who do have your preferred styles, guys. It's that easy. Let them do their thing, and you can do yours.

"You write about the environment! That's BAD!"
"Oh yeah? You don't write your character's internal monologue! THAT's bad!!"

What bothers me in an RP? One-liners. It really bothers me, big time. I can't stand it, honestly doesn't make the RP as fun and may make it go by quicker. I like slow-paced, long-response RPs.

I think a lot of time people are looking for something close to mirroring rather then exact post lengths. Mostly cuz I have never known anyone to actually count out anything when the roleplay is actually ongoing.

It’s why I have found writing samples to be the most helpful cuz usually it’s actually a matter of writing style not length.

Like people who complain “I hate writing more words cuz it’s always useless adjectives” meanwhile my ass can easily word vomit three paragraphs without even trying.

But that’s cuz I’m not an action focused writer, I am not concerned with the action being taken by my character but rather describing the scene in such a way as to give my partner an understanding of the setting.

So I do really badly with people who are action oriented because their writing comes across as stilted and minimalistic to me. Whereas I’m sure my writing is a little meandering to them.

Precisely this. I put a word count in my ads as an average I'm looking for, I'm not sitting there every single post running somebody's content through wordcounter.net. I don't actually know anyone who operates under "YOU MUST GIVE ME 1500 WORDS EVERY POST OR I'M DROPPING YOU, NO E X C E P T I O N S"

I would honestly consider it to like 12 and under. If the RP concept was all about playing kids I might feel different and say alright like 8 but so many games with mostly adult casts have a random child PC in them.

One thing that bothers me is when people play children. Play what you want but I cannot handle that personally
I can't handle a child main characters either. Some side NPC characters in moderation can be fun to interact with within reasonable story. But people trying to make them the whole story just make me done with the RP. Some kid that has a sudden sibling or parent feelings for a character derails story as bad as an unwanted romantic interest. Kids that act too adult, are OP, or way too wise beyond their years get annoying at best, uncomfortable at worst. And kids who somehow keep slipping away from their caregivers or wind up someplace they should have died getting too just to be in a scene they don't fit in makes me rage quit.

I mostly asked cuz I consider everyone under 18 to be children. And I was like …that’s a bold strategy. As in my experience 90% of characters are in the 14-18 age bracket.

What's making me angry, I can't stand when I'm made to feel like I can't write however much I want or how I want to write to convey a setting or scene or get inside of my character's head. That automatically I must have an elitist attitude because writing to my heart's content must mean I'm making walls of text simply to add big words, overly describe the sun setting, and ultimately add nothing to the overall story. I'm sorry if I would rather use better adjectives and verbs to bring the world to life instead of just saying: the sun rose and the sky was pink. When I write, I do so to bring the world I'm trying to create to life and give my characters thoughts and feelings. Sorry, not, sorry.

*sigh*

Person: "Hey, I'm really interested in [Plot from my Interest Check that I really want to do]. Do you think we can do it?"

Me: "Hell yeah! You have an idea you wanna do specifically?"
