The Story
Backstory
Superheroes... The stuff of children's fantasies (And sometimes adults). Heroes like Superman who can fly faster than a speeding bullet, or the Incredible Hulk who can turn into a behemoth of muscle and rage. These ideas rake in billions for the companies that pump out the Superhero genre content. But heroes could never exist, they're nothing more than the figments of their creator's imaginations.
That is until the first of the Gifted began to pop up.
Children with extraordinary powers, the ability to conjure flames with a snap of their fingers, or to grow floral life with a touch of their hands. By all accounts, these kids were marvels to behold. But no good thing comes without its downsides, and how could you expect kids to control these powers all the time? It started with a fire that ravaged half of London, started by the nightmare of one little girl. The next Dubai's Burj Khalifa was wrapped in vines so thick they threatened to bring the structure down, all because one little boy saw a pretty flower dying at its base. The Gifted were shunned for their powers, locked away by their governments... Or worse.
Now the parents of the gifted hid their children's powers from the world, keeping them safe from the reality that no one really wants to have superheroes. But Kids aren't kids forever, and sooner or later they'll make choices on their own. For better, or for worse.
Where the Players come in
All the kids remember the message they received that started their journey.
RecipientthemHello there, I know you but you don't know me. My name is Ashley, and I'm aware of your gifts. I've been keeping an eye on you, and others like you, with the hopes of creating something amazing. I'm just like you, and I want to show the world how great we are. My only question is:themAre you in?
This strange and cryptic message was sent out to many by one. This "one" was Ashley Smith, a Gifted child with the power to enter into the minds any living thing. He nearly died as a child due to his inability to control his power, nearly killing himself. He was bedridden for years and, being unable to move, learned to view the world through the eyes of others. He refined his Gift, learning to control it and master it. He saw the world through the eyes of others and through television screens. He grew angry at the world's inability to accepted The Gifted and when he was finally released from hospital worked tirelessly to organize a way to prove to the world that Gifts were not to be feared. After years of planning and preparation, he was finally ready. He sent out messages to all the Gifted he knew could make a difference, and could work to execute his plans.
Now he waits patiently in an abandoned warehouse in New York City, waiting in silent prayer for people to show...
Useful Stuff
About me
Hey there! My name is Kaas and I've been roleplaying for a few years now. I've got a wide range of experiences under my belt, from heavy romance (which now that I actually am in a relationship I stay away from) to dark RPs to even just silly friend group RPs (Highschool comedy style RPs, stuff like that). I've got a couple of years of GMing experience, some in strictly RP settings bust mostly D&D. I'm not very picky when it comes to roleplayers but I do have a few requirements.
1. LET'S GET LIT(ERATE) YO. In all seriousness, I value being able to actually read posts. I'm not requiring you to be able to write posts that rival Ulysses in complexity but just do the basics. Proper punctuation, good grammar, all that jazz. Make it legible.
2. LENGTHY BOIS. I expect at least 2-3 paragraphs per post. Don't try and write a novel, but don't just send 1 liners. If you're having trouble replying, just say so and I'll try and help get the RP going along.[/FONT]
3. FOLLOW DA RULES. There isn't much more to this than that, just follow the RPN and RP specific rules and you'll be fine.
DA RULES
Chaos was the law of nature; Order was the dream of man. Henry Adams, The Education of Henry Adams
How's that neat quote for ya? But in all seriousness, roleplays like these are nothing without rules. So let's review them, shall we?
1. YOU ARE NOT GODS. Don't give your characters the gift of "everything" or something else like that. They're special and powerful, not almighty. Cool? Cool.
2. DARK TOPICS ARE ALLOWED. The world isn't a happy place, let's face it. We can explore dark topics, and there will be some triggering stuff. Just let us know what you are and are not cool with before we start so we don't tread into unwanted territory.
3. KEEP THE ROMANCE CLEAN. I'm not going to stop characters from becoming romantically involved, it happens in real life all the time. What I will stop is anything above PG-13. Take any of that stuff off-site where it's allowed
4. RESPECT EACH OTHER. Just be kind and respectful. Don't be a dumb*** and ridicule people. If people make mistakes, inform them and help them correct them, don't make fun of them for it. Don't make hateful comments to people, ideas, or anything else for that matter. Except for Sonic, bully the s*** out of that Blue Hedgehog.
I feel as though these are fair rules. The gist is just to be good people, and help each other grow in RP terms.
Where will the RP take place?
I'm preferential to using Discord, and will be using that for the RP itself. You can join by clicking right here. I'm looking for people to be available at least 1-2 times a day. I get that life happens and you sometimes you won't be able to contribute, it'll happen to me with work and school and life in general, but let everyone know if you won't be available and all will be well.
Character Stuff
More Rules (Boring, I know)
Character rules. Gross, I know. But they're important so that characters don't become literal gods
1. GIFT RULES
Basically, there aren't rules when it comes to gifts. Do you want a bullet proof character? Sure, go for it. Want a character that can turn into a werewolf? Go for it. The possibilities are endless. However, you must run your gift ideas through me before you can implement them so they aren't overpower. As well, your character can only have ONE GIFT. A flying character may be able to fly, but that's about it. So get creative with their gift! Can a character who has control over water be able to control any liquid with a substantial amount of water in it? I think they could. Just bear in mind that the gifts DRAIN YOUR CHARACTER. The more intensive they use it, the more likely they are to incur damage to themself. A character with super stength might over exert and hurt themselves trying to lift a tank, stuff like that.
2. BE HUMAN
I sound like a broken record by now, but play with sincerity. How do your characters deal with being outcasted? Are they fearful they'll be caught? Are they angered and frustrated by the treatment they recieve from society? Just play with heart and you'll be set
3. ADD SOME DEPTH
Give your characters a history that makes themfully realized characters, I'm not asking for an entire auto-biography on their life but just try and add some flavour to them and you'll be set.
That's really it. I simply ask you that you run charaters through me first to make sure everything is in order.
CSHere's the CS example for Ashley Smith, my insert character for the RP
See, nothing too detailed. Just enough to let people know the gist of the character.
