Fantasy The Legend of the Legendary Mages [Open][Military Academy][Factions]

No problem :)

I was initially planning for an evil mage infiltrating the school as an academy teacher, but to be honest, the teachers tend to stay on the sidelines whilst the students do most of the activities. So I may swap out for an undercover student instead, if I want more content to write about :P
(a teacher would be more mature than the student version, who would have less control.)

I haven't thought her through completely, as I was slightly waiting till the character sheet was up before brainstorming(I tend to do that because I forget things easily), but I want her to be a rather tricky character. She'll always have a smile on her face, and attempt to get on the good side of everyone despite how displeasing to her they may be. Her calm demeanor will be difficult to shake, but I'm planning to have landmines which will break her mask almost immediately, as well as times where she requires a break from too much acting. Once her mask breaks, she'll be out of commission for a while(take a few days off perhaps). Her drive will revolve around an insane thirst for knowledge and power, to gain revenge perhaps(for her past?). At her core, she might be rather pitiful.

'Discover the many places of the Kovolo continent, the secrets of ancient civilizations, and the empire's true purpose.' I would quite like the idea of exploring the continent, if you would like some more plot ideas ^^

Glad to help :3

All roles will have parts where they shine, or stay on the sidelines, so don't let that notion deter you from creating a teacher. I'll find ways so that everyone's able to contribute to the roleplay's plot. You're also able to have multiple characters, if you want to have a student and a teacher. Teachers, in general, should be mature, but they may act immature in certain scenarios. For example, a lazy teacher, violent teacher, etc.

Tricky characters are always nice. You never know what they're truly thinking. I'm glad you have a scenario in mind to develop your character's personality and growth. Character progression is just as important as plot progression, so I plan to work with you on creating that scene for your character.

I'll keep your suggestion in mind. There will be field trips/missions/scenarios in place that result in everyone exploring the Kovolo continent rather than remaining at Jalder Academy. Do you want to explore a particular setting in the Kovolo Continent? I don't have a map set, so I'll likely add any places that peak your interest to the map. I'll also add more places, once the map's finished too. Currently, I've only the first part/arc of the roleplay written up, since I plan to develop more ideas, once I get to read up on everyone's character/plot ideas.

Hopefully, my statements help you out.

yes one of the factions does interest me, they all do tho.

Which faction garners your interest the most? I'm glad that you like them all.

Yah~! Dunno about Akashic Records or Alderamin (only seen the first episode orz), but I am a fan of the Trails and Valkyria series so I guess I'm a bit eager to learn more about the setting. I love me a good world :9

I also have two initial questions about magic. :v

In terms of power and flexibility, how capable is magic? I'm thinking of making a "evil" mage character with magic based on spatial compression, so I wanna know how plausible it is and how I should limit it.

What powers magic? Is it an external thing where a resource is required like with orbal energy/ragnite, internal like mana/life force/qi or a mix of the two?

Regarding your first comment, no knowledge of my sources of inspiration are necessary to enjoy the roleplay. They just help to explain the setting, theme, and concepts I'm trying to establish in the role play. What specifically would you like to learn about the setting? Technology, map, or anything in particular? I also plan to allow others to contribute with worth building, if they want to role play in a specific place, or create new technology as the role play progresses.

Magic is capable of multiple things, and new spells are constantly being created. I do have some form of magic system, but it's a rough draft. I'll post it to help you out on what I'm trying to go for, but the draft is subject to change. What powers do you want your character to use for spatial compression? From my rough draft, it seems Alchemy/Warp best fit your concept of spatial compression. If you want to summon vortexes, I think wind magic best suits that trait. If you want to compress your opponent into a small space and crush them, Force magic will work for that. Mages can learn multiple spells, so don't feel limited to one. If you can tell me specifically what you want to see for spatial compression, I can give a better answer.

"Magic

Black Magic

1. Elemental (Conjuring elemental effects)
2. Summoning (Summoning entitles from around the world)
3. Necromancy (Raising the dead)
4. Hexes (Debuffing/cursing an enemy)
5. Destruction (Using pure magic)
6. Absorption (Draining/absorb/steal magic energy)
7. Force (Move a non living entity with kinetic magical force)

White Magic

1. Healing (Using pure magic to heal)
2. Barrier (Using Pure magic to block attacks)
3. Empower (Empowering, or augmenting a trait)
4. Nullify (Nullify magic spells and effects)
5. Warp (Teleportation magic)
6. Transform (Transformation magic, can also be used to shrink/grow sizes)
7. Transfer (Transferring own magical energy with living organisms)

Alchemy

1. Transmutation (Converting a substance into another substance)
2. Synthesis (Combining substances to form another substance)
3. Fragmentation (Decomposing substances to form other substances.)
4. Mutation (Mutate an entity on a biological level. Example: Chimeras)
5. Animation (Animating a non living object with alchemy)
6. Revive (Resurrect someone from the dead at a high cost using alchemy, can also be used for immortality)
7. Ley Lines (Using ley lines through alchemic entitles to communicate with others)

Ways to function/utilize Magic

-Charm Activation (Requires a small chant and minor magic energy, but it's quicker. Once out of magical energy, the charm will cease function)
-Geometric Magic (Creating Symbols/runes. It's used as an array to channel magic energy. They can be created through chants, or drawn. The more intricate the design the better.)
-Incantations (Chanting a spell. Requires magic energy. If using powerful spells, it will drain the user. The longer the chant, the more powerful the spell. They create instant runes/geometric circles for spells)

Chants have their each unique effect. Users can create/manipulate their own chants for unique effects."

Magic is powered by one's own magic energy (Vitality), so it's internal. I may include special minerals that naturally have magic energy inside them, so it's probably a mix of the two, if I do include that idea.

Does this answer your questions? If not, please let me know, and I'll attempt to answer them again.

That's good to hear, I think I'll keep my inital evil-teacher idea then. Whenever I have multiple characters, I tend to write less for both of them, so in order to retain the quality of my character, I think I'll stick with just one :) My character will definitely have more quirks and flaws than I've initally let on.

I'm looking forward to it :P

Before I give any suggestions, I'll just let you know that I have no knowledge about any of the sources of inspiration you used for this roleplay. So if my suggestions are unacceptable for the setting, I apologize. An idea I have, is a military outpost in an area of extreme weather conditions, such as in a tundra with frequent heavy snowstorms.

I'll let you know if I grow an interest in anything else :3

It's up to you, but your other characters don't necessarily need to be your main ones. You're free to create side characters that further your character's growth and interactions. I need to post those character sheets fast, so I can see your evil-teacher idea.

I'm not one to judge, so don't apologize. Feel free to offer as many ideas as you like. There's no such thing as a dumb idea, unless you, the idea giver, think it's dumb. A military outpost in a tundra with snowstorms sounds cool. It reminds me of Fullmetal Alchemist, when Edward visited the North. I'll surely include that concept. Although, I don't know when we'll roleplay the idea. Maybe, I'll set up a poll to determine which setting roleplayers want to roleplay in once we finish the first part of the roleplay.

Thank you for your idea.

a lot of this magic sounds a lot like final fantasy magic xD

Yep, some of the spell types are similar to final fantasy. I just listed things under black magic and white magic to separate what's offensive and what's utility/defensive. Although, one can combine spells for increased effects, such as an elemental lighting bolt with a paralyzing hex.

so magic with debuffs? you mean final fantasy XV magic? xD and they call offensive and defense utility magic White and Black magic xD

Yep, some magical spells can cause debuffs, depending on their properties. For example, a fireball that causes burn, or a blizzard that freezes the opponent. That's just one part of the magic system, since there's a plethora of other spells too. I've never played final fantasy XV, but I've played other final fantasy games, so I can't determine if it's exactly like final fantasy XV magic. I just separated the magic in categories, that's all.

In final fantasy they use fire, thunder and ice to create magic bombs and you can mix the elements with other material to make like thunder tat deals damage but also poisons the enemy

Hachi Machi Hachi Machi Just a quick question, what kinds of magic are 'taboo'? Or is it the entirety of the black magic section and I'm just being dumb?

I haven't fully decided what the empire considers taboo, but for now, Necromancy, Revive, and maybe Mutation are some taboo spell types. It's not the entirety of the black magic section, so don't fret.

In final fantasy they use fire, thunder and ice to create magic bombs and you can mix the elements with other material to make like thunder tat deals damage but also poisons the enemy

In this RP, you can combine a poison hex with a thunder spell to have poison surge through the lightning's voltage, if that's something you want your character to cast.

can i help you with anything to make this rp go faster

Right now, I'm working on the character sheets. The RP will start before the end of this weekend, depending if everyone finishes their character sheets. Otherwise, it'll likely start next week, when everyone's character sheets are finished.

If you wish to help me, you can give suggestions on plot ideas, character interactions, or any scenarios you want to see in the RP. If it works for the first part of the role play, I can add it into the plot. Also, any questions regarding my role play are a big help as well. I'm thankful that you're willing to offer a helping hand.

Hachi Machi Hachi Machi This is a little strange to ask, but do you want realistic hair colours/eye colours for our characters?(Not anime-esque)

I'm fine with unrealistic hair/eye colors, but it's a case by case basis. For example, if you want your character to have pink, purple, or blue hair, that's totally fine. It's a fantasy world, so I try not to limit creative freedom. However, if you want your character to have heterochromia eyes, we need to discuss a plot reason for the character's different colored irises. Basically, it depends. If you have a particular appearance in mind, I can answer your question right now.

id love too help with the plot but i dont know the main plot other than what the description says

Only I know the main plot for now, otherwise it'll spoil the story. I'm saying you can offer suggestions, which may advance/develop/grow my plot, thus helping me create a roleplay experience enjoyable for you.

So this might be a dumb question, but can one use absorption magic to absorb things like stamina and strength, or is it limited to magical energy?

So this might be a dumb question, but can one use absorption magic to absorb things like stamina and strength, or is it limited to magical energy?

Magical energy affects a mage's stamina and strength, so absorption magic technically can absorb a victim's stamina and strength. Does that answer your question?

My question was more along the lines of "would it be possible to have a absorption spell that absorb strength rather than magical energy?".

What exactly do you mean by strength? Strength can be defined in many ways. Do you mean a mage absorbs the victim's ability to use their muscles to carry weights, or do you mean a mage absorbs the victim's force, such as a high impact punch? If you mean the physical power that's connected to magical energy, then yes absorption can absorb one's ability to physically act. I'm sorry that I can't answer your question clearly.

*Reads inspirations*

"The Legend of Heroes: Trail of Cold Steel"
Never played it...
"Akashic Records"
Oh?
"Alderamin"
Shut up and take my character sheet.
"Valkyria"
Sorry, postpone the taking of the CS, I'm having Vietnam flashbacks. Damn OP girl with her damn OP lance and her damn broken game mechanics in that damn desert level. Made me think it was fire emblem with all those perma-deaths.

'Magic' and 'tactics'. My two most favorite things. Got any space left, or am I too late?

I'm glad to read your interest and that you're familiar with some of my sources of inspiration. Your joke made me laugh.

There's definitely space left, since I've no hard limit yet. Do you have any ideas for a potential character? Any scenarios you'd like to roleplay? Or do you have any questions for me about the roleplay?

Well, I'd be that one guy and asked for every nitty gritty detail about the magic, but I think I'm going to go glower at the character sheets and OOC banter for ideas before I come bugging you. Glad I could make you laugh (^,^)

I appreciate any feedback, and I'll do my best to get to the specifics behind magic for this roleplay. Character sheets will be up tomorrow, or today if I'm lucky (Busy with college classes). I should probably create an OOC, but I'll likely do that after I finish the character sheet.
