Fantasy [Samurai] Lofi-Champloo [Open Again]

Well, Mx.Trinity Mx.Trinity if you don't mind me pulling a character sheet "template" out of my ass (and with little knowledge on the setting aside from 'ye olde japan n samurai n stuff', here's a preliminary concept for my character for posterity:

The man known as Oda Sakomoto comes from a long line of loyal samurai, indebted to the Shogun (insert name here), strongest Shogun in all of (japan?). With a family history of exemplary service as leader of men and more recently as battlefield elites, Oda Sakomoto completely destroyed the trend by growing up to be a self-righteous brute who entirely relies on pure strength, mind games, and under-handed tactics to win his battles. An abrasive nature and almost entirely unsympathetic world-view belies a very well hidden desire to enact his own sense of justice, making him a pain to be around if you don't meet very particular standards. He isn't entirely without merit, and can be surprisingly insightful and pleasant in stranger circumstances.

He stands quite tall, and is generally the most imposing figure in a room, with a wide frame that befits his occasional nickname as "Sakomoto the Oni", bringing to mind some kind of horned mountain demon. Further cementing his association is his equally imposing ō-yoroi, or the great masked armor that has been in his family for generations. Featuring three wiry stag horns, with two smaller on the left side and a larger one dominating the right half of the helmet, it really brings to mind a grizzled old yokai that has seen a hundred battles.

He's gained another moniker, "Sakomoto the Honorless', for the deed that originally turned him into a wandering ronin, and that cemented his status as an eternal fugitive; the murder of his own father during a routine assignment involving a clan of bandits. What was originally a simple scouting mission turned violent, as a squad of criminals surrounded the duo and after a heated battle, the grizzled old veteran and the least favored child began arguing over who ruined the operation first. An impromptu duel followed as the old man threw the first punch, and Sakomoto the Oni only managed to calm down when he realized his own father was sliced into a hundred pieces.

For six years, he's been on the run from his punishment, and seeks to correct his sins, one worthy deed at a time.

In battle, Sakomoto the Oni focuses on the usage of great swords and regular swords as sidearms. His primary weapon is his favored nodachi, the heirloom "Stone Cutting Sword", which has also been in his family for generations. As implied, it gained its semi-legendary status due to allegedly cutting a large stone in half during a duel many years ago. Aside from that, he just loots the blades of the people he's recently slaughtered and swings them with wild abandon when the overly sized blade would be too much, often breaking them. The Stone-Cutting Sword is noted across the land for its great beauty and impeccable quality, and is perhaps half the reason why so many people want Sakomoto dead. The thought of such an honored sword in the hands of an honorless savage is unbearable to many of wealth and taste.

No idea what the perfect kind of foil to him would be, but probably someone who's more hoighty toighty, but can still deal with his bullshit? Maybe an impoverished young noble who needs protection and doesn't care from who? I'd be up for anything.

p y u p y u we got room for you feel free to join, just read what I've said. Should give u a good idea of whats going on in the RP plans currently

ok ,, so this is embarrassing but since I haven't delved too far into japanese culture and history, I'll say that I've only been acquainted with pretty basic concepts and such, which I can totally understand could be a deal-breaker for my joining. Kick me out if I'm so terribly uncultured, but I thought that instead of disgracing all of japan by trying to pretend that I know what's going on, I'd rather make either a foreign character or someone who has yet to be immersed into society (i was thinking parents on the run, maybe paranoid, not entirely sure yet.) Of course, I'll take it upon myself to research a bit more, but if you'll still have me I think I could still make a pretty well-rounded character :> so yeah, don't laugh at me and lemme know whatcha think

edit: *cough* jouji episode six *cough*

Well, I don't have a character template written up but I"ll give a brief insight into my main character and possible side character. I don't want to make the side one if no one else is going to have two, seems a little much on my part. ( Although I love the challenge.)

Junjii is an ex-Yamabushi. Training most of his life in the Yari mountain range. After being framed for the death of their head priest he flee's. ( Still piecing the story together) It's been several years since his leave and the bounty has continued to climb. Of course he's been stripped of his monk title, and to this day he struggles with his own faith. ( more to come once I work out the kinks.)

Hatsu is a teenage brothel escapee. After being sold by her father at the age of 13 for gambling money, she's been living in her own bubble of despair; forced into prostitution. At seventeen she works up the courage to try and escape her sordid life at the brothel. If included in the rp as a pair- She runs into Junjii several months on the road and he promises to teach her martial arts and how to shoot a bow in hopes it will calm her vengeful spirit. She has other plans for her new skills. The pair have been traveling and training together for nearly two years.

This is more than likely poorly written but I was in a hurry to get to bed. <3 I'll play Junjii before Hatsu, but Hatsu if there aren't enough females to balance out the rp.

Heh. I guess I'll reveal a beta character from Seiunita.

Former hitman from the (NOT!)Shinsengumi, the man who simply calls himself Menma.

A former member of the Shogun's secret police and assassins (the Shinsengumi analogue). He was known for being one of the best trackers and spies in the group but was weak in swordsmanship. This lead to him using a 'less honorable' fighting style centered around traps and using the environment to his advantage. Prior to the start of the RP, he defected from the group after murdering his Superior in defiance of an order to kill a group of kids who stole from a greedy Noble. He now wanders around as a ronin and a folk hero to those who are ignored by the official government.

Ease up hahaha. Believe me, you are more than good. My own character is a foreigner that was grew up in Japan.

Like, dont get me wrong, there are some vastly different culture things but its nothing you cant wrap your head around.

For me, its how FIXATED they were on honor. Like from the highest noble to the lowliest paddy farmer, honor was a huge fuckin deal for these people. Something they would literally kill themselves over if they felt they had lost it and it was completely expected by the General populace.

cri OK i just wanted to make sure bc a lot of people are sticklers about that, but i do have some character concepts that i'd love to introduce so phew, i feel better about it now

and i was just reading up on some stuff and the honor thing??? CRAZY like Asia itself is so full of culture and so vastly different to the west and really any continent and it just blows my mind, I think the traditions are such an intimate and special thing among them it's actually kinda heartwarming lol

And that's the beauty of it. I'll be glad to help out anyone who needs help with Japanese culture.

But I myself am only an amateur in Jap culture.

:' ) thank y'all so much for the help, I'm sure I'll do okay but the encouragement helps !!
can't wait to get started tbh I've needed an rp like this :> how many people do we have btw? i forget with all the 'im in, im out' so i have no idea rip
Estimate is about 6-8

Ah okay, that's pretty good! and we're looking for 10, right? i would invite people if i knew anyone who was into this stuff, but unfortunately they're all into realistic :^(
This is pretty realistic. It has fantasy elements like demons and stuff but the combat is realistic enough. Like I told the other guy, aint no one gonna be slicing boulders with a katana unless they use some kind of martial skill or their spirit guide allows such a thing (hint: no animal of any kind can allow such a thing)

Good thing my chara doesn't focus on his sword skills. Fuahahahaha!! Fear the wild card!
