I haven't been getting notifications for the OOC, sorry. Would I know this Sythse better than the others?

RPN alerts strike again.
You'd know her by reputation - some of the elders give undue primacy to families with a lot of Surgeons and it has gone to the head of some younger Sythse, since they are frequently afforded more time in the vats, more resources, or excepted from certain unglamorous duties. For example, every Surgeon has done at least one shift a month providing medical care to Ker Viteur - but not any Sythse Surgeons, even the most green.
The Savaan don't live in a perfect meritocracy but the Sythse still represent an abnormal extension of privilege.

That the Children haven't actively cracked down on it so far is considered evidence it's acceptable, although there's a sect of tribulationists who (if they spoke freely) would argue this might be a moral test of the Savaan.

The tribulationists, by the way, are not a particularly formal or large tendency so much as a collection of dickheads who like to play Sun's Advocate.

Curious, what's the hierarchy of the Savaan (and the society in general)? I'm pretty sure I have a good idea, but I wanna double check. Also, what's the process to bringing about someone to be discussed for impiety? Though I assume that Unnamed Sythse, coming from a special family, probably won't get many consequences, if any.

Curious, what's the hierarchy of the Savaan (and the society in general)?
The devas at the top, unquestioned and unknowable.
Then there's the informal Elder Council - the eldest Guard, the masters of the four Styles, a Surgeon chosen from among them, and the most senior Shade.
Generally, if you get an order from a more senior Savaan, you follow it. Generally, the eldest grandparent of a House will give orders according to their interpretation of the great plan, suggestions from council meetings, and whim.
Anything else is informal, petty politicking - deferring to charm, to experience, to favours. Rahu, for example, could expect to call in a lot of favours purely on being good company and having excellent drugs, and likewise expect many Savaan to supprt him if, for example, he wanted to make a suggestion to the congregation about the overall plan.

Things are a slight bit different for Surgeons and Shades.
The official term for the collective of Surgeons is The Sodality of the Sacred Flesh, and within their own ranks tend to be quite democratic if prone to sophistry.
The Shades are technically considered above all of this, and can do whatever they want as long as they can justify it to senior Shades as being for the struggle and the faith.

Ker Viteur are all considered equals of each other, and therefore will simply inform on each other to the Savaan when they can't get their way. The Savaan are strongly, strongly reprimanded for any violence against Ker Viteur; they cannot possibly hurt you, so hurting them is both weak and impious.

Also, what's the process to bringing about someone to be discussed for impiety?

Find one or more other Shades and discuss it with them, and/or go to the high temple and pray for guidance.
Problem individuals have been known to disappear after a suitably fervent prayer, and it is strongly encouraged that they never be spoken of ever again.

Okay, so I accidentally wrote a moderately influential character just by trying to make a good team player. Nice.

When you say harming the Ker Viteur is strongly admonished, how strongly? Is it the sort of thing that could get a Savaan executed? Also, how common is it to spend time helping and nurturing the Day Caste outside of mandatory duties?

Tangent question; the Savaan are henotheists, from what you've said so far, but does Vasnok have any actual allies? By extension, does Kroms?

It will not get you executed directly but it may get you sent on a suicide mission, be banished to some godsforsaken shore to die proselytizing to surly vikings, or generally make you unwelcome at parties. It is notably very difficult for a Savaan who has been violent towards Ker Viteur to find a date.

Also, how common is it to spend time helping and nurturing the Day Caste outside of mandatory duties?

Not uncommon, and generally considered a laudable act of piety.

Vasnok is an outcast and a loner, but Kroms does have some allies - mainly new, developing allies.
For one, there are Children of Vasnok loose in the world who have been separated from the cult for centuries and they act as helpful patrons to Savaan sent on mission.
For another, some of the Outcaste of Radiant Pearl, who live on the islands to the south, have been contacted and proven sporadically friendly. There's also an isolated Barony in Hrothgard who may yet be swayed following some polite overtures.
There are other potential and extant allies, but that's above your paygrade until narratively appropriate.

And I'm still alive. Shit has been nuts for me recently. I promise I'm not usually this inactive. I should be back to normal now, sorry guys. I'm working on a post now.

Now more than ever no one need apologise for delays, especially if they're only a matter of days.
And if you vanish for longer than a week i'm just going to worry about your health.

As much as I want to keep posting because I'm excited to punch through a H'Kaeri's armor I'm going to wait for other players to respond....

Ok, so I have an abomination wishlist and I need to know how many of these I can make in the time available.

Scout bats and signal bats – pair-bonds of a larger, more intelligent specimen with behavioral mods to emit certain sounds based on what it's observing and a smaller, nearly flightless bat with a need to be facing its mate and the impulse to repeat their cries at a human-audible pitch. Essentially a low quality SONAR system made of bats. One pair needed.

Ghilleaches – gigantic leech/slug hybrids large enough to be worn as cloaks, whose dull brown-and-green outer surface makes them ideal for camouflage in swampy terrain. While they imprint on their wearers via a few drops of blood, they can largely subsist in a torpid state off the sweat, dead skin, and muck that accumulates on a traveler; this also makes them wonderful hygiene tools. If they or their host is wounded, they enter an active state where they envelop the assailant and attempt to exsanguinate them. Five needed, of course.

Thornswine – Paranoid came out 50 years ago yesterday, so let's get some war pigs up in here. Basically, these are feral hogs with the jaw strength of hippos, spines in lieu of bristles, and a joint in their lower jaw that lets them point their tusks outward when charging. 4-8 ideal.

Been trying to think of good questions. Will try to get a post in today. Are the Order of the Quill particularly dangerous or known?

They are known to be the most dangerous part of the H'kaeri military government a very small amount of the time. They're a research and archival division and spend more time developing the H'kaeri arsenal than on anything else, but every once in a while they test out a new weapon - often something volatile they stole from an Imperial ruin.
Don't feel like you have to ask a question if you don't have one.

S&S Bats are great, you can have a pair, and in fact I'd like to posit they're based on an original design of Rahu's which has been adpted into common use.

Ghilleaches is a 10/10 name, granted.

You may have to wheedle more than a couple of thornswine out of their handler but I'll allow them as an option.

My thought was that all of them were Rahu originals, though the thornswine originally had no quills or jaw-joints and were intended for use clearing debris. Similarly, the ghilleeches (which I realized I misspelled even though I spelled leech right a sentence later) originally didn't have camouflage or a murder mode, and were intended to subdue either seizing patients or Ker Viteur who'd committed some transgression without actually harming them. He then added murder-mods because tinkering with tissue is fun.

I'm cool with the thornswine being a semi-common war beast, though. They make sense as such.

I appreciate the pun hugely either way.

And yeah, that all makes sense. I just like the idea Rahu was the first Surgeon to actually see the value in rodentia generally.

I want to have something for you guys soon. 💗 Everyone else caught up to me, so now it's my turn to catch up with them, ha!

Everyone comfortable with getting their marching orders and being left to prepare, plan, and bond?

Since all of our characters have been on "training missions", iirc. What's a typical loadout for a 2 week mission? I mean the backpack with 10 days of rations, wine skin, bedroll, hammer and 10 iron spikes sorta thing. Or should we not worry about the miscellany and be more focused on specific, non- generic items?
