Realistic or Modern The Beginning of the End

".. I might--.. Where are you planning to go? Are you planning to go North to Minnesota or Wisconsin, or further along into Dakota or Montana?" He asked as he set his head against the side of the car door. (@Soul OMU - You'll have to add more onto that. I can't reply based off of what you've given me there.)
 
"Okay!" He said, he dashed out of the room and started looking around for anything that may have stood out. There wasn't anything thus far, but soon enough he saw that there was a little cupboard under the stairs. He hesitantly opened it up and then started digging through it until he found a vacuum cleaner. He smiled and wheeled it out and dragged it back through to Scarlet. "Here, Scarlet!" He smiled at her. "I've never left New York.... I guess... Minnesota?" He shrugged and weaved past the final car in the graveyard.
 
He sighed. ".. Wisconsin's closer to us, but it's whatever you want." He said as he snuggled himself up in his jacket and then yawned - he set his head down against the side of the door and shut his eyes. He was tired - the night before, he hadn't slept at all. At least now he could catch up on the rest he missed out on. (@AvidElmV2)

Scarlet smiles a bit. "Thank you darling." She said as she ruffled his hair and looked at him. "Can you show me the spare room?" (@DrTrollinski)
 
Johnathan continues to drive down the freeway, eventually coming off of it. Every once and awhile, Johnathan and Maria would switch seats so the other could get some rest.
 
"Yeah, it's this way." He grinned at her and then dashed up the stairs before going down the hallway and into the room at the bottom right of it. It was a quaint little room, and it was obvious that no one had slept in it the night before. (@Soul OMU)

It was only an hour into the drive that Mark started to squirm in his sleep. He saw horrible images of the creatures tearing his family and friends to pieces. He had a flashback to when he watched his best friend die right in front of him on the day of school that ended up being their last. He remembered the day his sister died with those people, and he remembered the day he took in Cole as his own. He got a hideous sight of Cole being grabbed by the undead and ripped into numerous pieces - the noises and smells all felt real to him. Then he woke up with a loud gasp, his eyes were lined with tears and he took quick breaths as he shot his eyes around the car - he was sweating profusely, but he saw Cole in Johnathan's arms and Maria in the driver's seat - Cole was fast asleep. Scarlet smiles a bit as she walks in with him and plugs in the vaccum. "I need you to move stuff for me so I can vaccum under it?" She said while looking at him.
 
Johnathan turns to Mark when he awakes. His expression was that of a concerned parent. Even if he wasn't of kin to Mark or Cole, it was a promise he made to himself to keep both of them safe. "You okay Mark? Whats wrong?" He cared for both of them. (@DrTrollinski )
 
"Okay, what do you want me to move first?" He asked, sitting down on the bed in the room. The bed was only a single, but it was comfy all the same. (@Soul OMU)

"Just a--.." His voice was shaking like crazy. He quickly cleared his throat and looked around again. Still broad daylight, and they were still in the car - good. He was awake, he was certain this time. He looked down at Cole again and took a deep breath. ".. Just a bad dream." He finished his sentence and took another long deep breath. ".. Is Cole alright?" He asked. (@AvidElmV2)
 
Johnathan looked down at Cole and smiled. He gently stroked the infants face. "As far as I know, yes. He's fine Mark." Maria turns around to look at Mark. Her hair covered most of her face but a smile could be seen behind it all. She was trying to be as happy as she could in times like this. "Hey. Don't worry Mark. We'll always be here for you." She turned back around to face the road. After five minutes, she pulled over and Johnathan and Maria changed seats and Johnathan gave Cole to Maria. (@DrTrollinski)

".. I appreciate it... I didn't know how much longer I'd last in New York. It was starting to get a bit dull there anyway." He gave a lighthearted chuckle and then relaxed a little bit - he pulled a bottle of water from the box he'd brought with him and took merely a sip from it. He couldn't drink too much, because he wanted to save it for when he needed to make more formula milk for Cole. ".. Whereabouts are you guys from, anyway? I don't think we got the chance to talk about that." He said. (@AvidElmV2)
 
Maria strokes Cole's hair. The baby stirs a bit as he wakes and blinks his eyes a bit, adjusting to the light. Maria smiles and kisses Cole's forehead. “Well if you mean where we came from, New York. If you mean what happened to us... Well. It's a long story." He smile fades away and she sighs. "Our parents went out to see what was going on and... well they never came back. My brother and I tried to stay in our house as long as possible but we ran out of food. Then the monsters got through. Johnathan fought them off as long as he could but there were too many. We had to run." She starts to cry but fights away the tears. She turns to Mark and smile again. "But at least we found our mom and dad. We had to kill them but I believe there in a better place."
 
".. Yeah--.. In a way, I sort of envy that you had the chance to say goodbye, and you were the ones that had to put them to rest... I didn't get that chance... That--.. Dog thing we can into a while back, a place we were all holed up in got attacked by five, maybe six of those things. My dad got pulled out of a window, my mom got caught trying to run, my older brother got ripped in half trying to help her, and then my sister--.. The mother of Cole there..." He paused for a minute and took a deep breath. "She hid me and Cole on the highest floor there was in the building, which was only the third... She went off to help fight and I didn't hear from her again - as soon as Cole started crying, I knew they'd come for me... I climbed out of a window onto one of the metal balconies, then I climbed to the roof... The only reason I'm still alive is because the sun came up." He explained. He said it all so casually, as if it was a normal thing to experience. He'd lost the ability to cry for anyone else now. He could only ever cry for Cole. (@AvidElmV2)
 
He looked at the desk and frowned in determination before going up to it and pulling on the front of it. He leaned backwards and grunted and groaned as he put all of his strength into pulling on it, and eventually it starting sliding out towards him. He straightened it out as best he could once it was away from the wall and then looked at Scarlet. (@Soul OMU)
 
Scarlet smiles a bit and ruffles his hair as she starts sucking up dust and dead bugs with it. "Good job, thanks sweetheart. Next can you get the bucket and mop from downstairs?

Scarlet smiles while vacuuming. "Thank you Carl." she said while looking at him slightly. "Alright so i'm not sure if you know how to vacuum or not... So I'll show you."
 
"Okay." He smiled at her and awaited his lesson in vacuuming. He didn't know that cleaning could actually be fun. (@Soul OMU)
 
Scarlet looks at him. "So with this vacuum you can either use the entire machine or just the hose. I use to use the hose for the corners and tight spots while the rest of the machine is good for everything else." She said while showing him.
 
Tom left the diner after completing his order with the man, and walked back to toward his house. He opened the door, and walked in. He wondered if he could find keys for the locks, maybe he'd have to go find some from the local hardware store. He heard Scarlet talking to Carl and followed the voices and looked at the two, "Hard at work? Guess that means I can just go lay down in bed and sleep, huh?" he smiled.
 
"Oh, okay." He took the hose in his hand and began dragging it around the room. He turned and looked at Tom when he walked in and smiled. ".. You can go and sleep if you want, daddy... Cleaning's easy." He said before going back to his vacuuming. (@Soul OMU, @DrCompton)

(I may be hosting a short time-skip soon, guys. I want to get everyone to a point where they're all on cue and won't fall wildly behind again, and I've got a plan for how that can be done, it's just about waiting for the right moment)
