Fantasy Z O D I A C | Umbra [WIP] [Ongoing - Looking for Players]

Boss

The only way out is through
You know how every story ends. The unlikely bunch of clashing personalities that rose up to fight an impossible war. You know the part where everyone doubted them. You know the scenes where the heroes doubted themselves, and you remember how bubbly it made you feel when they banded together and triumphed over evil. We've all seen that story, time and time again.

But what if the protected had run out of uses for the protector?

What if the protectors gradually turned into the same evil they fought against years ago?

Who could protect the protectors? Who could protect humanity from these past heroes? Who could keep the good side from tearing into itself and destroying the already battle-ridden planet?

The answers lie in Z O D I A C | Umbra, where there was no "happily ever after".

Years ago, a group of colorful students had been chosen by spirits of the dead to sign a contract, an agreement in which they receive powers beyond comprehension at the cost of doing that soul's bidding. Like any other story, there were conflicts. Conflicts between friends, against foes, against the spirits they were bond to. It was that classroom of students in Brookfield, USA that was the monkey wrench in the gears of destruction. Aided in their adventure was the Dominion - a secretive organization dating back thousands of years ago. Their specialty was keeping the existence of the supernatural a secret from humanity. Together with their aid, the protagonists in that era worked to defeat numerous enemies just as powerful or more than them. Over time, the level of carnage each clash would tax on the land grew, and the public slowly caught on that it was more than just freak accidents or failed military testings.

The existence of their enemies came into the limelight, and with them the existence of the Dominion and the protagonists. Both sides clashed, each exchanged blow send ripples across the land with entire cities laid to waste. In comparison to what their enemies had planned, the damage done was eerily small. Many lives were lost as a result, including several of the protagonists, who's name now will be forgotten for the most part. Ultimately, the evil was snuffed out.
As the years went on, the same spirits that had given each side tremendous power had also changed. No longer was there a contract, simply a forceful possession of a living being. What followed was crazed destruction all throughout the world. Humanity wanted a solution, and the Dominion gave it to them by declaring to act as humanity's first and last line of defense against super-beings, or Hosts, as they were called. Following the announcement, Hosts were declared illegal, too unstable to educate and too dangerous to let live. The killings soon began. Hosts of all abilities, both supportive and destructive were targets in the eyes of the public. They were hunted down and killed one by one. Those that surrendered were either enslaved by the Dominion or unethically studied. Those who died under the microscope of the Dominion had their abilities harvested and re-purposed to send humanity's technological stage several decades into the future.

And humanity knew this as well.

To most humans, Hosts had become the things of nightmares, and rightfully so, as so many innocent lives were taken because a single Host decided to play God for a while. To them, the ruthless hunt was a necessary evil to protect the mass, as well as the future from having another great war occur. The idea was to kill them in the cradle before they learned to use their abilities to eventually wipe out mankind on a whim. The heroes of the great war were not excluded. Past friendships were severed and what was once a joyful, bright partnership turned to vicious, unadulterated hate for one another. The remaining heroes scattered, dropping off of the ever-expanding grid. They became humanity's greatest threat to existence.
So the question now is: Who will prevail over one another? Will Hosts survive, having eliminated the Dominion and the humans' protectors? It wouldn't take long before another great evil would spawn from an overabundance of Hosts or any of the mass killings they conduct.
Would the Dominion successfully rid the world of any supernatural presence? The same iconic heroes that worked to save the world would be gone, but so would any potential supernatural evil. In that regard, what could stop the Dominion from turning their sights on the rest of humanity? Do they have the gull to act as the world's judge, jury and executioners? It isn't like they'd have opposition anymore.

This roleplay begins with a new generation of great individuals, whose names have yet to be written in history. What path would they take? What side would they stand on? In this fragile world still healing from the battles of old, it's fate is in their hands - in your hands.

any chance of a tl;dr?~ :3

Essentially there are human beings coupled with two souls who are called hosts, and said hosts are granted special abilities because of that second soul. There was a clash between these hosts many years ago, to which the good side won. The Dominion, a organization much akin to the Illuminati, has dubbed hosts a threat to humanity, even though they allied with the good hosts in the past. All hosts are being hunted down by the Dominion, no matter what kind of person they actually are. This roleplay's characters will be a new wave of people who will eventually decide the course of the future, whether hosts survive, humanity survives, or the two co-exist somehow.

Just an update: The roleplay is currently on hold until it receives a sufficient number of players, or if enough time has passed.

Definitely. We're a little low on players at the moment. Do you have a discord? Any and all questions can be easily answered there.
