As far as characters go, I typically either have one to two main characters that I focus on and then create several on the side. It highly depends on the situation within the roleplay. I do not expect my partner to have to do this (it's just somethin' I like to do).character prefs.Some of the side characters may eventually lead to their own character sheet, but it primarily depends on the need and situation. Though I'm all for my partner doubling or whatever you'd like to call it, again, it is not a necessity. And character sheets are more or less a foundational reference for me. Any type of art style for a face claim is all right by me as long as an attempt is made to get credit for the original artist or model.writing prefs.My writing will always be written from a third person's perspective. It would be less awkward if we both decided on a singular perspective, but if you prefer first person, go for it. As far as length in writing goes, though I can match my partner's posts in length, I may go off the handle and just write till my fingers fall off. I ask for semi-literacy in a partner, 500+ words. Of course I'm not going to count or whatever, that'd be insane. But I just ask for a bit of both quantity and quality to be able to reply and build off of. It was mercy. A moment of reprieve that Eddie would hold onto for long, unnecessary seconds. The third mug of black coffee was rich, acrid, and aromatic all at once, but it was far from warm. Yet its purpose was fulfilling. It gave him a reason to look away from the screen of his laptop. It gave his eyes a break, though he was certain that the words and numbers were tattooed underneath his eyelids. And cold or hot, the caffeinated beverage gave him the nudge that he'd need for the next few minutes. His tired eyes gravitated to the corner of the screen.
6:00 AM
He'd been at this since last afternoon. Trudging and slogging, dragging and digging until he could recite his firm's potential associate's background, motto, and financial standing by heart. Then there was the contract accompanied with the project proposals and the financial breakdowns which he could likely recreate from memory with all the drafting he'd done. Eddie took another sip. The coffee, he admonished, would be far better hot, and that fifth paragraph needed rewritten. The excel sheet would need reformulating, and the diagrams would need to be redesigned. In fact, he'd probably have to redo everything. The associate wasn't keen on supporting agile methods, and they definitely weren't favorable of spending so much on the normal variable of resources that his firm often handed out.
Unless he approached it at an angle, perhaps? Maybe threw in some loaded words about future, balance, success, and prosperity. Doing that would but the partnership and any future agreements with the associate at risk though. They climbed out of bankruptcy ten years ago. And successes without an outsider's help typically meant he'd have to manhandle a stubborn streak of independency. Regardless of their traits, they likely wouldn't favor his fanciful words especially if it meant an increase in cost. He set his mug down and leaned forward to reassess his opened word document. The numbers stuck out like bruises across the sea of text. Still, this would be the firm's lowest costing agreement in history.
His father surely would never let that happen.
"Mr. Ward?"
He looked up from the screen, and felt his eyes burn as they struggled through the transition of the monitor to the dimly lit doorway of his office. Jessica Harris, his secretary of six years, held the door partially open with a hand curled around the side. Her free hand was holding her tablet. A device that Eddie had never seen her without. Her sandy brown hair was slicked back with the help of a rosy patterned headband that was cemented in place with bobby pins anchored on the sides. She shuffled a foot across the threshold, her long pleated skirt rustling against the movement. Her face was absent of expression yet the tone she'd used to insinuate his name sounded both concerned and uncertain. He supposed it was warranted. Although she had witnessed him pulling all-nighters before, he did remember having told her he'd head home after she announced her leave. He glanced at the time again.
"Good morning, Mrs. Harris." He summoned forth a smile, and it strained to reach above his burning eyes.
Jessica crossed the threshold within another step and relented the door with a sigh. "Sir, please let me pass on this proposal to Matthews and Lanter. At least for today. You look terrible, and I'm sure Rosalynn would love to see you." She said.
At the mention of his daughter, Eddie looked to the cluster of pictures posted at the corner of his desk. Rosalynn, a girl with blonde hair and bright blue eyes--all of which she was gifted by her mother--grinned back at him. The one closest to him was her clutching her stuffed dragon as she braved last winter's snow. Her nanny had snapped it, and had regaled him of how Rosalynn had a mighty fine throwing arm when it came to snowball fights.
"Last time I passed something on to those two knuckleheads, our proposal fell through." Eddie said.
"At least take a break?" She shrugged with a single shoulder before gesturing with her chin toward him. "Especially if all you've had since last night was coffee."
A break sounded implausible. Not when there was so much to do in such little time. His father had always abhorred breaks. He'd found them to be time wasters and the definition of pseudo-psychology. Yet Eddie's eyes still burned, more so than usual. And the longer he withstood sipping his coffee did the gnawing pit of his stomach make itself more known.
Physical state aside, he had managed to knock out the foundational aspect of the proposal. Now he just needed to iron it out twenty-five more times until it was perfect. So a small break wouldn't hurt. If he went to see Rosalynn, he'd just waste precious time. Not because he didn't want to see her, his own child. Not exactly. She would be asleep, or would feign sleep on his approach. If not that then she would simply avoid him like the plague and show more interest in her stuffies or her nanny than him. He supposed it was due to their disconnection, to a response to his divorce with her mother, or both. Either way, he wouldn't have time to trek the journey back home just to turn around and come straight back.
"I'll take a break. Have any recommendations food-wise at this hour?"
Jessica hadn't provided any recommendations that interested his empty stomach, but he thanked her anyways before heading out to the parking garage. Only now as he sat in the driver's seat of his car did he feel the full effects of his all-nighter. It felt like twenty pound weights were on either of his shoulders. He was definitely getting to old for them, but success was as demanding as his father had been. This all-nighter would not be his last.
Eddie blared the radio as loud as it would go just so he could drown out his thoughts on work. He took his time cruising down the interstate, navigating through morning traffic, and made a turn on an exit that he had maybe taken once in his life. The exit turned into a winding road bearing two lanes. It spun him along into a pocket of the city that looked older than his firm's office building. His stomach churned and gurgled, and Eddie settled for the first eatery that had its lights on and cars parked in the lot.
Hal's Diner
He took a moment to ground himself further by turning off the ignition and relishing the bit of silence from his own car and its blaring radio. Then with a long exhale he stepped out and made a gradual beeline for the door. Even before he'd opened it, he could smell cheesy eggs, buttered toast, and warm pancakes. The scent alone made his stomach do flips, and once he opened the door, he had to wipe his mouth less he salivate from the idea of food.
Hal's Diner was fairly packed even at this hour. It drew Eddie to check his watch before glancing around the establishment once, twice. His eyes lingered on the décor that aligned the walls, paused over the light fixtures above, and trailed over the partition that separated the majority kitchen from the main lobby. Then his attention stopped at the bar. It was favorable, especially with the tempting aroma of coffee that wafted from it, but the bar was packed. There was maybe two or three stools available, but he'd have to butt up to a stranger. So he looked to the tables and booths. Like the bar, not many were readily available, and he caught sight of a waitress skittering over to each patron in hurried yet careful steps. Based on her mannerisms it was possible that it was just her playing waitress, at least for the moment. He took to a plastic chair that lined itself up against the exterior window that overlooked the parking lot, and waited. All the while he tried letting the noise within the diner drown out his thoughts on the proposal, but it did little to assuage the jitters of needing to finish it to perfection.
It did him little good which drew him to focus on the waitress who moved like a careful storm throughout the diner. Her smile was the first thing he saw, and he found contentment that it reached her eyes despite the bustle of patrons. She looked tired though but the signs of fatigue were hints in the movement of her brown eyes or the way she drew out her notepad to scribble down an order. Watching her lessened the constant flow of work that permeated his thoughts.</Start>
