❝ rule one: never let them see you break. ❞

It was simple to mess with Xander, to get under his skin in all the right and wrong ways. Mariana knew what she was doing with her flirtatious glances in Cade's direction, but she was just as sure that he knew what she was doing too. They both knew it was never going to be anything serious, that they were just friends who happened to enjoy each other's company from time to time. Her eyes moved back to Xander and it was obvious that he saw right through her.

She hated that. How easily he could see right through her. Why had she given him that power? She wondered if this was why they hadn't lasted. If after all this time her roots caught up with her and he stopped believing that there was any good behind her devilish eyes. Better off that way though. Her father always warned her that falling in love was dangerous. Either it got you killed or it got the ones you loved killed.

"I take offense. I think I make great decisions when I drink," Mari winked at Cade though she didn't reach for the flask. If he held onto it then it gave her an excuse to find him later on. Not that she needed one. Her eyes rolled at Xander's next comment and she could feel her jaw clench. She saw the way he was eyeing Vicky and knew what he was doing but there was a hint of sincerity to it. Mariana couldn't help but mutter a curse word in spanish under her breath.

Of course, Vicky was stunning in her own right and Mariana knew it. The girls were friends but to say that they were tight enough not to go after the same man was an reach. After all, Vicky had dated Xander first or at least that's why they'd told her. Mari didn't know this until after she was already talking to him herself. Before she could respond she felt her purse vibrate and soon enough everyone was pulling their phone out which meant one thing.

X P O S E D
Hope everyone is ready for the first rumor of the year! I don't think it really counts as a rumor when there is picture proof though. One of our many sources caught wind of Mariana Flores and Cade Hunter getting pretty drunk and wild together at a party over summer break. They were later seen leaving together and we can all guess what happened next, can't we? I'd say one of them was doing the walk of shame the next morning but they've been spotted getting pretty cozy multiple times since so maybe not? Is this a new romance or just a FWB deal? Either way, it looks like Mariana wasted no time in moving on from her former beau, Xander Esposito. Yikes! What drama!
ENJOY! XOXO.
Mariana's eyes grew wide as she stared down at the screen, not expecting this information to be revealed right now. She had kept this to herself for a reason and it wasn't just to spare herself the drama. It was for his sake really. Xander and Cade had never really gotten along. Xander had mentioned once before that he didn't like how Cade looked at her which made the fact that they were sleeping together even worse, and so soon after the breakup.

"Guess the cat is out of the bag," she mumbled quietly, rolling her eyes as she shoved her phone into her purse again. You know what? No. Why did it matter? They had broken up before she'd slept with anyone else and it was clear tonight that he hadn't even given her as much as thought since. He didn't want her and she didn't want him. So it wouldn't matter...right? Wrong.

Cade was ready to cause some trouble, or at least be a part of it. And little did he or anyone else know-- his chance was coming. His playful banter with Mariana wasn't really doing a great job of hiding what had gone down between them, but at this point, he didn't care. He wasn't big on the drama of secrets or anything like that, but he also wasn't forthcoming with his personal business with alot of people. If it wasn't their place to know, he wouldn't tell them. Not even someone who was blood related to him.

He liked Mari and they had fun together, that was the bottom line. And if someone wanted to be a little bitch about it, then that was their prerogative. Vicky pulled a bottle of bourbon out of her bag, and even though they weren't friends on any level, Cade nodded at her when she offered it around. He took the bottle and waterfalled it into his mouth before swallowing, lowering the bottle and handing it back.

Feeling his phone go off again, Cade glanced back down at it, spotting the text from Thomas. And as promised, when Cade looked up and to his left, the guy was standing there like a creep. Rolling his eyes, Cade stuffed his phone back into his pocket without responding. "I'll be back." He winked at Mari, then left the group to go greet Thomas. "Hey man, how was your summer?" He asked breezily, as if he cared.

Pulling the baggie from his pocket, he clasped it into Thomas' hand, accepting the money in return. "Yeah, yeah. Anytime." Cade stuffed the money into his other pocket, returning to the group just as Xander was screaming something about him not being a virgin. Cade quirked a brow in the man's direction but said nothing, not until the other male pulled Vicky close to him and his eyes settled on Cade.

Cade wasn't stupid. He knew what Xander was doing, and something about that kid just pissed him off enough that he might opt out of his usual silence. But before he could say anything, the XPOSED blog sounded off on everyones phone. He wasn't even going to look until he saw the look on Mari's face and heard her comment. "What?" He snapped, digging his phone out yet again to read it. "Fucking christ, really?"

Cade hated drama, especially when it involved him. And Xander's smug little face was just asking to be hit. So, without warning, he shoved his phone into Mari's hands and swung, his blow landing right across Xander's eye.

Cameron was determined to have a good time at the bonfire. She knew that Cade was around here somewhere, but right now she just wanted to be with her roommate and have fun, meet new people, and maybe even let go a little bit. She'd just dragged her roommate over to someone standing by himself though, when everyones phones started going off at once, Cam's included. Confused, the blonde glanced down at her phone to see a text from a number she didn't know and one from Jared.

Reading the unknown message first, however, she immediately grew concerned. Lowering the device after reading the message a good three times, she whirled around, scanning the beachgoers for her brother. She knew him, and if she knew him like she thought she did, things were about to go south real quick. And he may be a bastard, but he was still her brother and she didn't need him getting expelled just because he wanted to be a dick.

And sure enough, it happened.

Some yards away, she saw someone throw a punch and recognized the body attached to that arm right away. "Fucking god, really?!" With a groan, Cameron took off in the sand, heading for the fight. Others were already gathering to watch, but she weaved in and out of people until she reached the two men. "CADE!" She shrieked his name, just as he threw another punch to the guy that Cam didn't know.

He didn't look at her, and he didn't have to to know that he was already gone. He and the guy were in a full on tussle now, hurling punches and insults at each other. Spotting Mari on their other side, Cameron narrowed her eyes in the other girls direction. "Is this because of you?" She snapped over the sounds of the guys fighting, her own anger rising. "Ugh!" Looking back at the boys, Cameron thought for about two seconds before she jumped in to grab at her brothers clothes, yanking on them to try and pull him off of Xander.

XANDER

The history between Xander and Vicky was older than his history with Mari, but it had twice the friendliness and respect than they did right now. That’s why he was confident she wouldn’t have any problems with how he pulled her close to him at the waist. It had been just like old times, only that Vicky hotness improved drastically and Xander’s own confidence was much higher than it was back when they dated.

The icing to this particular cake was, of course, seeing how bothered Mariana became and just how fed up Cade was.

Xander didn’t have any excessive feelings of malice towards Cade. He didn’t like the overly-tattooed waste of space but he didn’t hate him. He pitied the guy for how he involved himself with Mariana and how, if they met under different circumstances, they probably wouldn’t have been one gentle nudge away from punching each other’s lights out.

Or, you know, a hard shove into the deep end that came in the form of a widespread alert that pinged anyone who had a phone on them. It was a symphony of different tones that immediately caused most around to whisper and look at the group huddled on the beach. Xander was probably one of the last ones to look at it as he was too busy having the time of his life sticking it to Mari but not in the way she wanted.

And as he did, the words “those motherfuckers” left his lips. They would be the only words because the moment he looked up, aiming to give Mari a line of questions that came to him, so did an inked up fist. Now Xander was lucky because his body was turned slightly to the right, what was meant for his eye had connected with the side of his face, but the force of the blow stumbled his footing and caused him to fall back and that put Xander in the unfortunate position as Cade followed through by mounting him, aiming to punch him again.

With Xander’s legs locked inside Cade’s, he couldn’t knee him in the groin, so Xander used any means necessary to push the tattooed male off, which didn’t seem to help cause his face was hurting, vision was obstructed by an unpleasant face. That left Xander with one strategy left: petty insults!

“You hit worse than my grandma!” As Xander threw in a series of comments, most of which were meant to emasculate Cade, the sound of a girl peeved at Cade and seemingly knowing him. “Oh you’re popular, Cadey boy! Go on, finish the job! Unless you don’t think you have it in you.”

Was Xander asking for a beating? Maybe, but if Cade fell for the trap, though Xander would have a few too many scrapes and cuts than he would prefer, the fact he would meant Cade wasn’t really as much of a man as he thought he was.

"Thanks, I at least tried to look somewhat presentable tonight. And maybe, depends on where this party goes and how many more drinks I have. Drunk swimming seems like both a great and a terrible idea," Beatrix responded with a small smile, shrugging one shoulder before taking another sip from her so-called cocktail. She actually felt comfortable at the party, something that wasn't really all that common for her. Usually, parties were indoors and crowded with strangers. But at the beach, it was underneath the open sky and she knew at least some of the attendees. That, combined with the alcohol she was drinking, subsided her anxiety at least a bit.

Beatrix was the type of person to keep to herself, to not stick her nose in other peoples' businesses. She was a firm believer that everyone has a right to their own privacy, that some things could be kept to themselves and not revealed to the general public. For that reason, when Tommy said that he needed to see someone and would be back shortly, Trixie didn't even think about it twice. After all, she didn't want anyone trying to figure out certain things about her. So she wasn't about to do that to someone else, especially a friend. Taking the blunt from Tommy, she nodded and replied, "Alright, stay safe," before watching him disappear across the sand.

The blunt was smooth between her fingers, and smelt rather pleasant. Sitting her cup momentarily on the drink table behind her once again, Trix pulled a lighter from her back pocket, placed the blunt her lips, lit it, and inhaled. It was satisfying, a burning sensation that filled her chest and set a calm over her body. Letting out a breathe, the smoke rose from between her parted lips into the night air above their heads. The music student sighed with a grin, and held out the blunt as an offer to Magnolia.

"My summer?" she repeated, biting her lip as she thought about it. Because of her situation, Beatrix wasn't exactly allowed to take vacations, let alone leave the town Ivyrose was situated in. Ever since she had been sent there to go to school, she hadn't left. She knew it was for her safety, to protect her from those that were probably after her, and to save her testimony for a trial against the corrupt corporation. But that didn't mean she enjoyed it. "I just stuck around here, took some summer classes. Trying to graduate as soon as I can," she finally answered, shrugging her shoulders as nonchalantly as possible.

Looking up as two men approached the table, Beatrix instinctively picked up her red plastic cup again, not wanting anyone else to get too close. Her guardians had made sure she had heard horror stories of girls being drugged through not keeping an eye on their drinks at parties, and she wasn't about to become a victim again. But, as they got closer, she quickly recognized them as Zeke and Jackson, two guys she knew mostly in passing. Trixie was about to greet them when her phone vibrated in her back pocket. Observant eyes realized that everyone around them seemed to be taking out their phones as well. Great, this couldn't be good.

Icy blue eyes followed the words on the screen, her brow furrowing as she read across the words. "Are you seeing this?" she said out loud, her words technically directed at Mags but could also be heard by those nearby. The last thing she really wanted was more drama in an already-drama-filled school. The gossip blog Xposed seemed to want the opposite, putting peoples' secrets out in the open for all to read. Looking up from her phone, Trix found Mari, Xander, and Cade all standing together with some others across the beach, exchanging words before breaking out into fisticuffs. "Well, fuck. Should we do something?"

Jackson let out a laugh as Zeke nudged him, rolling his eyes at his dark-haired friend. "You and I both know that cougars are your thing. So if Miss Honey is sweet on you, I wouldn't be made if you took the chance," he answered with a smirk. It was true, the professor always seemed to have eyes for him, singling him out in class and constantly making eye contact. But Jackson preferred women his own age. After all, he had daddy issues, not mommy issues. Jax took his lighter back from Zeke, shoving it to its spot in his pocket once again. The joint would be gone shortly, which meant that sooner rather than later, this party would get a lot more entertaining. Unbeknownst to him, though, it would be in more ways than one.

Shoving his hands into his pocket, Jackson followed Ezekiel over towards the drinks table, eyes landing on a few familiar faces that were there. Mags was one he knew a little too well, her soft skin and full lips. For a moment he was stuck in the memories of their past time together, but quickly pushed all that away. At the time, it was just for fun, just a hook-up. But he learned that she was crazy talented, and actually grew to enjoy hanging out with her. On her other side stood Beatrix, who was interesting in her own right. Zeke enjoyed taunting her, flirting only to be shot down. But Jack knew a bit better. Trixie kept to herself, didn't reveal too much about herself, even in the music she wrote and produced. He hadn't heard to much of it other than in a project for an elective class they both happened to be in. But she too was creatively gifted.

Nodding to them, Jackson grabbed one of the plastic red cups and filled it with a double pour of the same whiskey Zeke was drinking. Concurrent phone notification sounds filled the air, overpowering the music for a moment as it seemed as though everyone's phone went off. What could that possibly be? Jack shrugged and retrieved his phone with mild interest, skimming over the words on the screen. "Can't say I blame him though," he responded, referring to Cade's relationship to Mari, "She's hot as hell. Can't imagine that guy she was dating is going to be too happy about it tho-" Before he could even finish the sentence however, Cade threw a punch that connected with side of Xander's face. "Ouch, that one's got to hurt," he said, before responding to Trixie's words. "No, probably not. What do you think Zeke?"

Jared
The Devil wears Prada

Jared was agreeing with Vicky more and more as they wasted time not doing anything. He was growing bored and would almost rather just go look around for Cam now then continue to stand here. He couldn't help the roll of his eyes at Xander's comment about not being a virgin, but only speaking for himself. Him not a virgin? Pff as if. He's probably pulled more in a weekend than Xander did in a whole year. As for everyone else standing there with him, none of them were saint by far, so virginity had definetly been long gone. It was a silly comment and not worth the breathe of actually responding to.

However standing there in their mist he did feel a bit uncomfortable. He couldn't quite put his finger on it. It was more than his boredom nagging at him. Perhaps it was the unnecessary flirt fight going on between Cade, Mari, and Xander that he supposed included Vicky too but she seemed more a casualty of it than anything. Not that it would stop her from enjoying or possibly indulging in it because attention is attention and she liked what she liked. It all seemed and felt a little 5th wheel-ish and he wasn't sure he liked that, or wanted to deal with that all night tonight.

Maybe he should find him a little play thing too for the evening. He didn't need to flirt to push any buttons with anyone, but rather to distract him from the weird scene playing out before him. It was none of his business and he'd like to keep it that way. Just as he looked up to see who he might try and get entangled with tonight he was distracted by the buzz of his phone. Thinking it was Cam replying he checked it only to find it was that damn gossip blog again. How no one had hacked and brought it down yet was a mystery to him.

Regardless he was slightly disappointed in what he read. They usually had juicier news to report. This was just what he had been suspecting a moment ago after just standing next to them a few minuets. This wouldn't have stayed a 'secret' long anyways. However what he didn't suspect was the sudden falcon punch Cade landed on Xander and the beat down that was to follow. Why had Cade lashed out so suddenly on Xander, Jared had no clue. He hated how irrational and hot-headed Cade could be. It wasn't a secret Mari and Xander were Ex's even if she hadn't told him that yet. This was all extremely uncalled for even if it technically was the entertainment he'd been hoping for.

Jared had zero interest in intervening for quite a few reasons. first this was a fight over a girl. Not to discount Mari because she was stunning, and wonderful, and a very good friend who he'd fight for if need be. But that was the thing, 'if need be' because 'they are friends'. This was a fight because...well he wasn't even sure. Was it because he now realized why Xander was flirting so much with Vicky in front of them? That it was to possibly affect Mari, even though they were doing the same thing? It was childish, whatever the reason and he would not play with children. Even if he did like Xander more than Cade when it comes to hanging out, despite him and Cade's much longer history.

Second it would be very embarrassing if Xander couldn't get in at least one good hit before being saved or knocking out in front of a now good chunk of the student body. People were going to talk and it wouldn't look good on Xanders half if he couldn't do anything. Though it seemed he picked the talk shit option to possibly piss Cade off enough to kill him. Not the strategy he'd have gone with, but to each their own.

Everything changed however when he heard Cam's voice yelling out to Cade. "Damn it!" He cursed under his breathe. What was worse she actually tried pulling at him as if she was actually strong enough to pull Cade off of him. Was she crazy? Cade and Xander could kick each others teeth in all night and he not care, but one accidental blow on Cameron and he'd really have to fight someone. That's not how he wanted to end his night so he huffed irritably and picked up Cam to get her off of Cade before she got hurt. As gently as he could put her down and pushed her out of the way and to the side before turning back to get Cade. He knew Cam would just try again, so he needed this foolishness to end. He hooked his arms around Cade's from behind and pulled them back locking them so he'd stop hitting and pulled up and backwards to get him off, "Cut it out, you made your point!" It was definitely a struggle because it's not like Cade is a light weight, but luckily neither is Jared. He released him after turning from Xander and stood between Cade and Xander on the ground. If he was going to try again he'd have to get through him, so he crossed his arms to signal to him he wasn't going to budge.

He didn't blame Mari for this situation, and she didn't get why cam seemed to, but it was clear the portion of the night of them all hanging out together was over. "Go cool off or something." He called over towards Mari, "You good? You staying with us or going with him? I don't mind which one you choose, but if you go with him you guys should keep your distance because I don't plan on playing bouncer all night." It wasn't meant to be a dig or anything, but he wasn't going to step in again. He didn't even want to this time, but he couldn't let Cam get involved. Not to mention he doubted Vicky would want to spend the rest of the night with Cade, and he certainly didn't want to especially after that. Who just up and punches someone? He wanted to make sure she was ok though before she made her decision. Not like she was physically hurt in any way, but it probably didn't feel good to be technically in the middle of that even if not literally. Not to mention since it happened right after the text people are going to know she's the reason, or at least art of it.

There were lots of ways to have fun tonight, and this was not one of them. Mari and Xander both would owe him for ruining that start of his night with this nonsense. He turned to Cam a moment, "You good? Don't rush in like that you know how he is." He loved Cam, but she had to know that was a dumb idea. Sure he didn't think Cade would actually hurt her...well not on purpose. However in fits of rage and mid fight anything could've happened.

Sheep in wolves clothing

Mags smiled hearing Trix talk about her summer while taking the blunt. It was uneventful, but it was nice. Wholesome even. It was one of the reasons she liked hanging out with Trix. She was interesting, and fun, but not too much like a lot of other people in her life. There was a certain peace in her mystery. "Glad to know I wasn't the only one with a boring summer." She giggled. "I agree with the wanting to graduate fast." She nodded. Perhaps she should've done the same? Nah the last thing she'd want is to have to share her big graduation moment with Jared. Not that it would even count as sharing since he'd defiantly steal the show. Nah she was good where she was at even if she'd graduate a semester or two after her friend. Plus with the plans they had in mind it's not like they'd lose contact once she graduated anyways. This friendship may be new, but she hoped it would be a lasting one.

She couldn't help that her smile brightened just a bit more as Zeke and Jackson walked up. "Hey guys, good to see you." She hummed before taking a hit of the blunt she'd been holding. Nice and deep letting it fill her lungs and work it's magic. This was the start of a great night if the two of them were going to stick around. Zeke was a fun guy, and someone who really got her when she mentioned her screwed up family life. He really could understand her distaste for the 'perfection' that was apparently her older brother because he dealt with similar issues. Jackson was a whole different case. He was one of the few people she's hooked up with and still managed to hang out with after the fact. She usually regrets falling into guys beds because she's had one too many, but she couldn't regret him because he was in her eyes one of the coolest guys on campus to talk and hang out with. He's talented and smart, and not as entitled as a lot of other pricks around here. Being a great kisser helps his case quite a bit too, among being exceptional at other things as well.

She didn't have time to get lost in her thoughts as her phone buzzed. It went off with everyone else which meant one of only a few things. Amber alert, Campus announcement, or....Xposed again. She quickly scans over it and rolls her eyes before pocketing her phone again. She wasn't impressed. So what if Mari hoped from one guy to the next. Lots of people did? She might not like Mari, but that wasn't something to make headlines. She supposed she should've been more interested considering who the two guys were. She of course knew them. Her and Cade went way back because him, Cam, and Jared have known each other forever it seems. Xander was a cool party guy as well, so she didn't have anything against them. She knew how Xander could be and Cade could be, but clearly that was no different than her, so what's the big deal?

The big deal was the fact that Trix pointed out that they were all together at the moment and now Cade was being Cade and throwing punches. Trix wondered if they should do something, and Jackson had the right idea. No. That had nothing to do with them. She wasn't surprised seeing Cade's reaction, but she still wished she didn't see it because now Trix's question kept replying in her mind. Sure this had nothing to do with them...but she was practically raised with Cade. Then Cam joined in and she really felt the tug to do something. "Oh fuck, I-" She handed Trix back the blunt and took a step towards them. She wasn't going to try and stop the fight just pull Cameron's little butt out of the mix. Luckily as soon as she took her step, she noticed Jared grab her, so she stopped and sighed with relief.

"Nah, my brother's got it handled apparently, Let it be his problem." She shrugged and took a sip of her drink turning back to the gang to prove to herself she was officially over whatever that was going on. Of course Jared would be the little innocent princesses shining white knight. He always did anything and everything for her. He might as well ask our parents to adopt her. She's sure they wouldn't mind the trade with little miss perfect. "Plus that's on her. Who parades a new guy in front of an Ex without clearing the air first and doesn't think there is going to be some drama?" She had zero interest in getting involved in Mari's problem. She sighed and glanced over her shoulder a bit, "If anything I'd wait till he chills out a bit to check up on him." If he walked away from them she'd go and check in, but if Cade chooses to stick around Mari all night she'd have to wait for another time. Talking to him about it with her around would more than likely just lead to a fight after all.

... yikes...
August Lovell.

August was totally content with just standing around and being left the fuck alone. But of course he knew that wouldn't last long at a party with so many people attending. So why was he even surprised when he had a petite blonde girl come right over to greet him with her 'roomie' in tow. He didn't recognize her at all, so she must have been a freshman. Thankfully she got her name out of the way right off the bat, so there was no need to ask. "Uh, hey," she seemed harmless enough, he supposed it wouldn't hurt to talk to her. "August... Not the month. It's my name. It's a little weird I kno-" August was cut off by a number of things. Everyone's phones had gone off at once, everyone getting the same message from some kind of gossip... something? Hacker? Bot? How it somehow had everyone's contact information he had no idea, and it was kind of weird. But if all whatever it was wanted to do was spread spicy rumours about who was doing who then he really didn't really care enough to be bothered about it. August was also cut off by Cameron shouting off into the distance at someone else.

And there was fight going on. Beautiful. Was it even a party without one?

August really wasn't big on the art of spectating on fights, but this was the beach, so it wasn't like he could walk to another room so he couldn't see it or anything. "I need a drink," he sighed and rolled his eyes, glancing towards the 'roomie' Cam had left behind. "You're welcome to come with. Unless you actually like watching this kind of shit," he told the other girl with a lazy shrug of the shoulders, throwing her a lazy peace sign before heading to where all the drinks were. If he could at least get a bit of a buzz going on he was sure he'd be able to tolerate anymore fights that dared to errupt.

As he approached the drink table he was delighted to see someone he actually knew. August picked up one of the red plastic cups then poured a little bit of... whatever into it. He wasn't actually paying it much attention, he just wanted something strong in him fast. "Hello there Mags," since he was actually friends with Magnolia he greeted her by name as he inserted himself into the group. But he wasn't trying to be an ass and ignore everyone else, so he did wave to everyone else as well and gave them all a more universal 'hello' too. Even if he didn't know the rest of them all too well this seemed like as good a time as ever to fix that. "I have no goddamn clue what you're all talking about, but please, tell me all about it anyway," he added before taking a sip from his cup, letting his eyes dart from person to person, just waiting to be filled in on the conversation.

"Come on. Let's go mingle."

"Good idea." Kelly said as Cameron looped their arms together and lead her over to guy standing by himself. She really did want start making more friends thank goodness her roommate was nice and outgoing.

"Hi there! I'm Cameron, and this is my roomie. What's your name?"

"Hey I'm Kelly." Kelly glanced around watching more people arrive and the place became more crowded. She looked at the guy and front of her and couldn't help but wonder if they were bothering him.

"Uh, hey, August... Not the month. It's my name. It's a little weird I kno-"

Suddenly he was cut off by his phone who had went off. Actually it wasn't just his phone it was practically everybody was here at the bonfire. Kelly reached into her pocket and pulled out her phone. It was text from a unknown number that seemed to be a gossip blog? Maybe? Kelly stood there reading over the message. Kelly honestly didn't know who these people were though it seemed like Cameron did as she suddenly turned around searching the crowd that was when she suddenly yelled out and too off. Kelly turned around in the direction Kelly was heading and noticed there was a fight breaking out. "Cameron?!...... "What the heck...." Kelly mumbled to herself. While Kelly was determining if she should follow her or not August started speaking to her.

"You're welcome to come with. Unless you actually like watching this kind of shit,"

She looked at him then back at the direction towards the fight. "Thanks but I'm going to go make sure Cameron's alright. Thanks anyway! It was nice to meet you!" She then turned around headed towards the fight, where now a crowd was forming. When she finally reached the fight the crowd was already bigger and she had to squeeze her was through to even manage to see anything. When she finally reached the front of the crowd she saw two guys she didn't recognize fighting. Must of had something to do with that text everyone got. As she continued to scan around the area she saw Cameron and ran up to her just in time to see her snap at some girl and then not to long after that Cameron grabbed one of the boys that were fighting and tried to pull him off the other guy. Kelly glanced back at the girl Cameron had snapped at looked at her for a moment. That must of been Mari. Kelly attention went back to the fight. She was worried that Cameron might get hurt accident.

VICKY
When Cade took the bourbon from her, Vicky grinned and followed his example as soon as he returned the bottle, tucking it away just in time to feel a grip on her waist tighten. Xander stating he was definitely no virgin got her giggling. Vicky wasn’t really thinking about what Xander was doing and after all, there was no bad blood between them, even though they were exes. Quite the contrary. Vicky might have been the popular girl but she didn’t have many friends. Those real friends who she could talk to, share her deepest fears and concerns and secrets. Mari was great but Vicky still kept a thing or two from her. But with Xander, and Jared for that matter, Vicky could be her real self. Only those two guys really knew the real Vicky Hanson.

“I know you’re not…I remember…only too well.” she grinned at the boy and leaned her frame into him, wrapping her own arm around his waist, reacting to his virgin statement. It might have been long time ago but she still remembered vividly. Xander was one of those men who only improved with age and though they were not the couple anymore, Vicky could appreciate a hot man when she saw one.

For a short while, she tuned everyone out and looked over Xander and then the same with Cade, comparing and fast-analyzing. Sure, Cade was very much a good-looking man. But still, if -she- had to choose, it would be Xander. Then again, she would always have a soft spot for him so this could be considered her bias.

But returning to reality, Vicky realized her purse was buzzing. And when she fished the phone out, her assumptions only confirmed. Didn’t need to ask Mari in private anymore. Well, well, well. So she and Cade -were- a thing after all. Vicky’s sparkling hazel eyes shot up, looking at her girlfriend with a mischievous smile, then flashed at Cade and back to Mari. Her lips parted and a little comment was on its way out when suddenly Cade lashed out at Xander. Vicky, whose arm was still around the boy, jumped aside with a short shriek and looked down at the two bodies. Cade was obviously having the upper hand there and Xander was…well, he was doing his thing.

Fights were not something Vicky enjoyed and usually avoided them. Drama was great and she thrived in it. Rumors, gossip, drama, stories, news, that was all Vicky immensely enjoyed but when it really came to fights, she tried to get as far from it as possible. But here, she never had the chance and for a while, she wondered what to do. There was no way she could stop them and yet, there was this little blonde, jumping in, trying to pull Cade off. Well…good luck.

Thank god Jared decided to intervene in the end. Vicky felt incredibly relieved, seeing her friend pulling the two fighting bodies from each other. This whole time, she couldn’t even say anything since her shock was way too great. Once Cade was off of Xander, Vicky flashed a look at her friend, her eyes wide open and did the first thing that occurred to her. She simply jumped back, falling to her knees to Xander, helping him up. “Jesus Christ…” she muttered under her breath. Knowing there was a pack of tissues in her purse, she tried to find it, just in case. “Are you okay, love? Come on up. Let’s find you some ice.” she told him gently, stroking his face. Looking back, a set of daggers flew at Cade and even Mari. In her book, it was their fault and as of now, they were definitely not spending tonight together. Obviously.

THOMAS
This whole way to meet Cade felt almost endless. Tommy knew he needed his fix as soon as possible and though he knew he should lay off a bit…maybe more than a bit, he couldn’t. Somehow, he could not even imagine going one day without his daily dose. That little baggie of party favors had become his loyal companion everywhere he went. Whether it was school or some of his extra curriculars or free time, there was never a time that Tommy wouldn’t pat his pockets for his goodies.

As he was standing aside, he was really not in a mood to join the so-called popular crowd. Tommy knew he most probably looked like some kind of creep, lurking around like this but hell if he minded. Quite the contrary. All he was interested in was the trade with Cade. Money to him, baggie to Tommy. That was it. Not more, not less.

“All good, can’t complain.” Tommy mumbled to Cade’s question about his summer. It wasn’t like Cade was really interested and Tommy was definitely not keen on talking about it even if he was. They were no friends. Not even…nothing. Their relationship was purely based on the trade. “Thanks, man. Have a great night.” Tommy told him as they finished their little transaction and turned on his heels to walk back to Trixie and Magnolia. And most importantly, to the blunt he had left with them.

But before he reached them, Tommy turned his face to the ocean, letting the soft breeze hit his face a little. Most of the people were behind his back so Tommy naturally gripped his baggie before opening it and popping one or two pills at the same time. Healthy? No, absolutely not. Did he care? No, absolutely not. His phone buzzed and he checked it but seeing it was just that gossip blog, Tommy just rolled his eyes and tugged his phone away. He was never one for gossip and didn’t care about these “news”.

Just as he reached the girls, he heard some kind of commotion and when he turned around, he saw Cade on top of someone, all in frenzy. The event obviously caught the interest of everyone on the beach but Tommy only shrugged it away. It was not his business and if those two wanted to hit their teeth off, they could. Tommy rather approached the girls, vaguely recognizing a few other people at the table now. “Well…I see some take social interactions more seriously than others.” he motioned his head towards the fight but then glanced at the blunt. His eyes were slowly becoming a little shiny and empty but to him, it was a common state. “Can I have some?” he asked, referring to the blunt. He was slowly getting in the zone there and smoking was only going to speed that process up.

❝ rule one: never let them see you break. ❞

With Mariana’s knowledge of Cade’s temper, she should’ve seen the fight coming from a mile away. They had been friends prior to hooking up and she’d seen him get in a couple of fights before. Not to mention the fact that the two guys didn't get along or have the best history. Still, she was a little shocked when Cade shoved his phone and the flask into her hands and threw a punch at her ex. What the hell?!

"Cade! Stop!" she yelled as the fight broke out and Cade hit Xander a few more times. "Can someone get them!?" she added, looking around and hoping for Jared of someone to jump in soon. She wanted to yank them apart but she wasn't stupid enough to get in the middle of it. Clearly not everyone got that memo though because Cam soon joined the group, shrieking and pulling at her brother's shirt. The blonde quickly turned her attention to Mari and threw out the comment that everyone else had to be thinking.

Is this because of you?

"What?! I didn't do a fucking thing!" she snapped back at the blonde but she knew what the girl had meant. While she'd admit that she was being flirty to get under her ex's skin, she didn't sleep with Cade just to piss him off. In fact, she'd ended up in bed with him after a drunken night out trying to get over the stupid break up. Was it so bad that she had slept with someone else? They weren't even together!

Her eyes darted to Jared as he jumped in and pulled Cade off of Xander who was tossing out insults. She felt eyes on them. On her, as if everyone was blaming her for the situation. Why wouldn't they? It was always the girl who was at fault, after all. She ignored Vicky's look and shook her head at Jared's question. It felt like he was sending daggers her way even though she knew him well enough to know better. "I'm fine, Jare. Just make sure he's okay," she said before walking off towards Cade.

"I'd ask if you're alright but it looks like you did most of the damage. What the hell was that?" she commented, her hand falling on her hip. The words were less angry and more just fucking confused. After looking him over and noticing he was mostly fine, physically, she took a swig from the flask and then held it out. "You could probably use more of this," she offered.

She could hear some muttering scattered here and there talking about the whole drama that had just gone down. Likely about how she had been the source of it or how she'd decided to go off with Cade rather than Xander. One big reason was that she couldn't bring herself to face Xander. He was already undoubtedly pissed and she was in no mood to hear any questions or nasty comments.

Cade was her friend and he'd have been there for her if she had been on the other end of this. At least, she hoped so and that was enough to make her follow after him. Besides, the night was still young and she had no intention of letting the party end just because of some stupid fight. "Warn me next time, yeah? I'll accept bets so we can make some quick cash," she joked a little, unsure how he'd respond.

❝ don't you know who the hell i am? ❞

Zeke's chuckle escaped him as his friend offered to graciously step aside for him to pursue Miss Honey. "Don't tempt me. I can always buy my way back in school if going after a professor gets me kicked out," he thought about it for a second. It wouldn't be the first time he'd tried to make a move on someone older than him but was it worth it? He thought again about Miss Honey and a smirk flashed across his face. Okay, so maybe it was worth the trouble.

"Mags, you gonna actually party with me tonight, or do you still not trust me?" he joked, sending a friendly wink her way. It was in the guy's nature to flirt with just about any female he came across though with Magnolia it was different. It was a more friendly banter than a romantic interest. Not that she wasn't stunning because she sure as hell was his type. With her, he felt like he could actually open up and be real and he didn't want to jeopardize that, which was actually a weird feeling for him to be honest.

His eyes flickered to Trixie when he noticed she was also standing at the table. He was quite used to throwing out all his best lines only to be rejected by her. Usually, that kinda thing would chip away at his pride but he just found himself more determined with the girl. She was a mystery to pretty much everyone which intrigued him that much more.

Before he got the chance to greet her his words rang true and Cade was on top of Xander. Quite frankly he was beating the hell out of the guy and while Zeke was friends with both he did almost consider Xander a brother. "Guess I should step in. If no one else is gonna take on the job," he commented but just as he was going to do so, Jared finally got in the middle of it and managed to yank the men apart.

"I guess, but all of this over a girl? It's a little too cliche, don't you think?" he shrugged. He'd have to remember to catch up with Xander later about what the hell had just gone down but for now, he downed the contents of his drink and poured himself another. He took another hit from the joint before handing what was left back to Jackson. "Finish that off," he said simply, turning his attention back to the group in front of him.

By then August and Tommy had joined them, the latter he knew mostly in passing. Well, and because he'd paid the guy to pass a test or two....or ten. "Coming right up," he said before pouring a generous amount of the whiskey into his empty cup. "Just discussing why fighting over girls, or guys for that matter, is stupid. I don't believe we've met. I'm Zeke," he offered a short introduction to August.

His eyes flickered back to Beatrix and he found his chance to speak to her. "Did I hear you say that you stayed here all summer? That must've been a bore without me around. Hope you didn't miss me too much," he said, a playful grin tugging at his lips. He couldn't help himself even if he was fully aware that she had no plans on giving him even half a chance. It was like a game and he enjoyed playing.

Anyone who knew Cade or knew of Cade knew that he was a hothead, and he rarely thought things through before he did them. So with Xander practically begging for a fight, Cade was naturally ready to give it to him. That with the added drama of that stupid XPOSED blog blowing up his spot, and Mariana's, Cade had no issue throwing the first punch. The momentum carried him and Xander to the ground, where Cade straightened and starting hitting him again and again. Locking his legs in Xander's so that the guy couldn't sneak in a groin kick, Cade felt as though he could win this fight easily.

“You hit worse than my grandma! Oh you’re popular, Cadey boy! Go on, finish the job! Unless you don’t think you have it in you.”

What was winning, exactly? Killing him? Permanently maiming him? Cade wasn't sure, but the petty insults Xander threw up to him didn't make him want to sit down and think it out. He had no idea how long he kept hitting; time seemed to slow down. People were watching, but Cade didn't give a damn about that. They could watch all day long; Cade's focus was on the little shit below him. "Shut up, you stupid little piece of-"

"CADE!"

He recognized the voice of his sister, of course, and even felt her grabbing at one of his arms to try and pull him off of Xander. Things after that seemed to happen quickly, like time was catching up with him. He'd just shrugged Cam off of him for the second time and was about to land another punch square to Xander's jaw when a pair of arms hooked under his own, pulling him up and off of Xander. Landing in one more kick, Cade jerked out of Jared's arms and stumbled away from the fight. He felt like he may have gotten hit a few times, too, but now everything was just a blur.

"No problem about that." Cade spat at Jared, returning Vicky's dagger-filled glare before finally looking at Mari. He looked as though he wanted to say something, but thought better of it. He stalked away from the group, hearing Mari's soft footsteps a few seconds later. "I'd ask if you're alright but it looks like you did most of the damage. What the hell was that?"

He didn't know what to say to her, but he accepted the flask when she handed it over, taking a generous swig from it. "I'm fine." He finally told her, glancing behind him at the dispersing crowd. "Fuck him." Still walking away, he looked forward again. Things were quiet between them until Mari spoke again, and her comment actually made him crack a smirk. "I'm sure we could make some good money that way." He was teasing her back, enjoying how things were just easy between them.

"Mari, you know that wasn't on you, right?"

Cam wasn't dub enough to think that she could get Cade off of Xander by herself, but she also wasn't going to sit around and just watch him fight. Hoping that someone else would take the hint and help, she just kept grabbing at Cade even after her shrugged her off. She even smacked his back a few times, and then moved up to his head, but she knew that once he was in the zone there was nothing she could do to stop him. "Come ON you big dumbass!" She groaned, just as she felt the ground lift out from under her feet.

With a soft shriek, she landed on the sand a few feet away from the fight. Spotting Jared, she scowled slightly. Not because of him, but because of the situation in general. Jared hooked his arms under Cade's and pulled him off, and Cade spat something angry in his direction before glaring at Vicky and stalking off. The preppy girl Cam had snapped at herself followed him, causing the blonde to sigh.

"You good? Don't rush in like that you know how he is."

"No one else was doing anything!" Cam protested, turning her face to look at Jared. She knew he was right, but she hadn't wanted to situation to escalate. She realized that her roommate had followed her over as well, and she looked concerned. "Jesus." With a heavy sigh, she crossed her arms, though her gaze softened when she looked up at Jared. "Despite all of that, it's nice to see you again. This is Kelly, my roomie."

Cam motioned for the girl to come closer, then motioned at Jared. "This is Jared, Kelly. The closest thing to a brother I'll ever have, considering my own is a piece of shit." She shot a glare in Cade's direction, then looked back at the others. Everyone seemed okay, except for Xander. He definitely looked like he was having a bad night, though for some reason, he also didn't really look bothered.

"Is he fucking crazy?" Cam returned her attention back to Jared, nodding in Xander's direction.

Because of everything that had happened, Beatrix had had to leave so many things behind. The rest of her family, her friends, her favorite restaurants, her school. Everything that she knew as normal, familiar, was all gone. She could only return to those things if the people that killed her parents were caught and brought to justice. And unfortunately, that just never seemed possible. But one thing that remained, one constant she could count in was music. It was a better protector than any guardian assigned to her case, a better listener than any therapist she had gone to. No matter what she had gone through, creating and listening to music had given her an outlet for all the emotions that she otherwise had to keep bottled up inside. Because she already got enough pitiful looks from the people who knew her story. She didn't need them from people who didn't.

So, when Magnolia had approached her about a potential project, writing and creating music for her budding business. Aside from the money her parents had left for her in a trust fund, Trixie kept her bank account full by selling her songs to up-and-coming "singer-songwriters" who truthfully couldn't write a melody to save their lives. It wasn't super lucrative, she sold the rights to the songs and didn't really get profits after that. However, it was enough to keep her sustained while she finished up her degree. At least she knew that eventually, when she did graduate, she would still have a friend in Mags. At least, as long as her cover wasn't blown again.

Not wanting to even consider that as an options, Beatrix took a long drink from her red plastic cup, nearly emptying it as two guys approached their little grouping. She knew Jackson from a few classes they shared together. He was generally a nice guy from what interactions they had. Maybe a little impulsive, but overall a light-haired, laid-back guy. Trix generally enjoyed being around him, though she didn't seek him out just to do something together. Then again, she didn't necessarily seek anyone out. Ezekiel, on the other hand, was an entirely different story. She felt his eyes on her for a moment, but chose to ignore them. They had met earlier in her time at Ivyrose, and she couldn't deny that he intrigued her. She would never admit that though.

He said something to Mags that Trixie ignored, instead deciding to refill her cup with straight cinnamon whiskey this time instead of the cocktail before. Before she knew it, the blunt was placed back between her fingers, eyes following Magnolia as she took a few steps towards the fight. Truth be told, Trix could care less of Cade got his ass kicked. In fact, she kind of wanted him to. They had never gotten along, their personalities clashing rather sharply when forced to interact with one another. While others saw him as this charming, tattooed bad boy, she could only see a jerk. So, she took a drag from the joint instead, passed it back to Thomas, and simply answered, "Alright, let them eat cake."

Beatrix preferred to stay in the background as much as she could. Tried to dress simply, unassuming, to be the person in the crowd that eyes would simply pass over instead of really scrutinizing. And for the most part, it worked. Many people didn't really suspect the quiet, guarded girl as anything more than a cold bitch to avoid. Trixie liked it that way. But there were some that stuck around, like Tommy and Mags. And also Zeke. She felt eyes on her again, and her icy gaze met his ocean blue. Taking a sip from her cup she appraised him for a moment in his ripped jeans and button-up. Not too casual, but not about to walk down the red carpet. Wanting to knock him off his pedestal a bit, Beatrix tilted her head and teasingly answered in her signature cold tone, "I'm sorry, who are you again?" Even though her life had been abhorrent match of cat and mouse, this was a game she enjoyed playing.

"Hey, Mags," Jackson greeted, grinning at the girl when he met her gaze. A while back, the two had met while drinking at some party. One thing lead to another, and Jackson woke up the following morning in bed with her and a killer hangover. While the night before had been based mostly on drunken desire, he had actually gotten to know her that morning and other times after. She was gorgeous, yes. But she was also insanely gifted and just an all-around kind person. She didn't seem to care that he wasn't from money like some of the other Ivyrose students had, didn't look down on him for being there on a scholarship. It was refreshing to say the least. Beatrix was another case, someone who threw herself whole-heartedly into what she loved, and he respected that about her. Either way, he could definitely see himself hanging out with them for the rest of the night, and having a blast doing so.

Jax glanced over at the separating fight at Magnolia's response, seeing Jared swoop in for the rescue. While he and Jared weren't necessarily friends, they weren't enemies either. In fact, Jay had helped him out of a sticky situation or two, and Jack definitely owed him. But it was more like making a deal with the devil than a gentleman's agreement, and those always come back to bite. He let out a low chuckle at Mags' notion, taking another sip from his drink. "I mean, this is Mari and Ivyrose we're talking about. The flair for the dramatic is practically part of the curriculum," he answered with a shrug. Taking the blunt from Zeke, Jackson took a finally drag before stamping it out in the sand at his feet. The high was starting to kick in, causing him to feel less inhibited and more relaxed than his usual persona. Let the party begin.

Tommy approached them, apparently returning from somewhere across the party. Jack could tell by the glazed look in his eyes that he was definitely further gone than one blunt's worth. They had met freshman year when the found out that they had far more in common than just the same dorm room number. With father figures that were lackluster and nearly non-existent as well as scholarships and smoking hobbies, they were practically twins. It was nice, especially at such a impressionable time in their lives, to have someone who understood them so completely. "Hey, Tommy," Jackson greeted with a grin, nodding to his friend. A brunette guy approached with another girl as well, so he raised his glass to both of them and added, "Hello to you all as well. I'm Jackson. Now who's ready to really get this party started?"

Screen-Shot-2016-07-22-at-2.50.18-PM.pngKelly watched as finally another person jumped into the mix to help pull the guys apart. Some she recognized actually. "Jared?" Kelly mumbled to herself. She had met him and his sister a couple times though she wasn't really close to the two. She glanced around wondering if that meant Mag was here but she it was to crowded to tell. Her attention went back to Cameron. "That was crazy I was honestly afraid you were going to get hit by accident." Kelly glanced around at the crowd again noticing the chatter and whispers going on. This was certainly going to be a interesting school year.

"This is Kelly, my roomie"

"What?" Kelly said when she heard her name. Then she realized Cameron was introducing her.

"This is Jared, Kelly. The closest thing to a brother I'll ever have, considering my own is a piece of shit."

"Oh actually we kind of already know each other. Met him and his sister a couple of times." Kelly said as she followed the direction of Cameron's glare. "Ha....well it's gotta be better then having a perfect sister." Kelly said to herself as she crossed her arms. Kelly then reached into her pocket and pulled out her phone and looked at the text again. "You guys have any idea who sent that message to all of our phones. I don't think there's one person who didn't get it."

Magnolia
Sheep in wolves clothing

Magnolia couldn't help but smirk and playfully roll her eyes at Zeke's comment, "Pff Being afraid and having comment sense dear are two different things." She couldn't help but shoot him a quick wink at the end tho. To be honest it wasn't that she didn't like partying with Zeke she just knew how she could be and the two had actually forged a bond that she didn't have any interest in tampering with. Why mess up a good thing? She already didn't have too much of that going on in her life, and had very few real bonds with others. If she could spare this one by simply not getting too drunk and alone around him then that was a price she was willing to pay. True to his word Tommy made his way back to the group and she offered up a small smile.

It felt as as soon as the fight had began it was over thanks to Jared. The crowd slowly dispersed and so did her interest. She nodded at Zeke's comment about it being cliche, " You can say that again." With that she took a big swig of her drink. What a start to the night. August soon walked up to the table and it seemed her night was getting better and better, which she couldn't say was the same for Jared. While all her favorite people seemed to gravitating to this area, he was having to deal with that mess.

"Hey August!" She chimed glad to see her friend. She shrugged at his question, "Not much to say." She felt the others summed it up pretty accurately. He didn't seem to really know the others, but as usualy they were pretty quick to start the introductions. She suppsoed that was a perk of having outgoing friends. "Anyways, how was your summer?" She asked as her interest in the topic of the fight dwindled to just about nothing, and her desire to drink intensified. That's not to say she didn't find Tommy and Jackson's comments about it funny earning a few giggled to bubble lightly from her lips though she tried to suppress them by biting her lip.

She lost it despite her best efforts not to laugh when Zeke's flirtation with Trix fell flat and was clearly shot down. Trix just kept being more and more fun to be around. Her personality was more than just the mysterious girl, and that was what was interesting to her. Her wit, and aura was just as enticing as her talent. She grinned at Jackson's words, "Now that's what I'm talking about, let's have some real fun." She downed the rest of her drink with a smirk curling onto her lips, "Hey we're at the beach might as well have some fun in the water. what do you guys say?"

Jared
The Devil wears Prada

Now that everything was settling Jared patted down his shirt to straighten it back out after restraining Cade had ruffled it a bit, and kicked up some sand on it. Honestly, where was the class? He turned his head to see Vicky tending to Xander and saying something about going to get ice as she glared at Cade and Mari. He sighed hoping they'd talk about it later, and he wouldn't have to deal with the fall out of this. He hoped there'd be no fall out honestly because, what for? Cade will never check his temper, and Xander will always talk shit, it was just how they were. It was hopelessly optimistic of them to think for a moment things wouldn't devolve into something unpleasant even if a physical fight wasn't what he'd imagine it'd be.

Instead he turned his attention to more pleasant matters, Cameron. He'd easily find Vicky and Xander later, and while he did feel for Mari knowing people were blaming her for this instead of the idiot who swung first out of no where. However she'd decided to walk and follow Cade who'd stormed off, so he'd respect that decision and check up on her later. He sighed shaking his head at cam's remark about no one stepping in. Firstly it was great entertainment probably for those not involved in any way, so of course not, but even more than that it wasn't really anyone's problem unless they were friends with Xander like Vicky was. The only reason he'd done anything was for her.

A genuinely soft smile curled slightly onto his lips as he spoke, "It's good seeing you too. This at least made you easy to find." He chuckled finding the silver lining in the whole ordeal. She was one of the few people who could elicit an actual genuinely warm smile from him. No ulterior motives, no strings, no facade...just him. Her, Vicky, and Mari were the only ones really. Not even his own mother could achieve that despite the fact he does love her...it's just like everything else it's mostly business. His smile did nothing but brighten as she spoke about him to Kelly whom he didn't really recognize until she mentioned they knew one another. Then it all came back to him. "She's right, she's much more of a sister then my actual one as well." He pulled her in for a side hug before releasing her, "I don't know where that one is right now, but that's probably for the best. If anyone is going to cause an unnecessary scene next it'll be her." He groaned at the thought. Now that he'd definitely have no part in intervening. He sometimes wished no one even knew they were siblings.

He pained his business as usual smile on his lips extending a hand towards Kelly, "Nice to see you again." he said simply. He didn't have much thoughts on the "perfect sister" comment since in his and cam's situation that'd be them to their parents. Cade and Magnolia were definitely the problem children as Cade just demonstrated. well...He supposed he had some thoughts on it, but this wasn't the place or time for all that. This was a party and it's entertainment value for him was dangerously low at the moment. He shrugged at Cam's comment, "Not crazy just immature, hot-headed, impulsive. Honestly the list of his flaws could go on for a while." all things that irritated him about the man. He responded to Kelly's question forgetting that she was a freshman so this was probably her first encounter with the blog, "It's just a nosy anonymous gossip blog. I've no clue how it works, or how it's not been shut down or counter hacked...but it's irritating to say the least." This blog was better than anyone he knew at digging up information on well...just about anyone it always felt like no one was safe so long as you had a secret.

"Anyways enough with all that. It's you ladies first party here at Ivyrose, let's make it one to remember in a good way. What would you lovely ladies like to do first?"

❝ rule one: never let them see you break. ❞

Mariana wasn’t exactly sure why but Cade taking the flask she offered gave her a sense of relief. Maybe it was just because he was the only person within a ten-mile radius not giving her the side-eye or whispering about her. She hated being judged and she felt like that's what had just happened. Maybe they were right to judge her though. She and Xander had broken up just a couple weeks before that party when she hooked up with Cade for the first time. It wasn't exactly like she waited forever to seemingly "move on".

When he agreed with her comments on taking a bet and cracked a smile she couldn’t help but let out a laugh. Her chocolate gaze met his when he spoke the next words and she bit down on her bottom lip for a second. "Tell that to Vicky. Did you see the death glare she shot us?" she laughed a little. The girl was her friend but she'd been Xander's friend longer and it showed. Not that Mariana fully trusted her. In all honesty, she didn't fully trust anyone except Jared. It was just how she'd been raised.

She started to walk down the shoreline in the opposite direction of where the others had gone. "I mean, know that I didn't make y'all fight but maybe flirting with my current fling in front of my ex who hates him isn't the best idea?" Mari said, nudging him. Should she have been joking? No. But the humor kinda lightened the mood and she needed that. He probably did too. Why let the awkward tension and hushed gossip ruin the night. It wasn't either of their styles, right?

"Wanna ditch this stupid welcome party? I mean, I don't think that we are wanted here anyway," she teased. "Maybe we can walk to the bar down the street from campus so I can beat you in a game of darts?" she smirked, knowing full well that she could. "Winner gets to pick out a tattoo for the loser? Any tattoo," she added to spice things up. She didn't have any tattoos herself unlike Cade, but she had always wanted one. Why not make a game of it and go with someone who clearly knew good tattoo artists?

❝ don't you know who the hell i am? ❞

Zeke didn’t have a lot of self-control when it came to his flirting. It didn’t matter who you were. Not that he would cross a line with a girl who truly expressed she wasn’t interested. But he did find fun in the chase. Trixie was extra fun to him because she was snappy and had a way with shutting him down that made him want more. That made him determined to get her to like him. Especially because she was so mysterious. It sorta made him feel like he had something to prove.

Her words caused him to smirk but he wiped to look of rather quickly to replace it with one of faux shock. "Ouch. And here I thought I was unforgettable," he let slip out before taking another large sip from his drink. "Guess I need to work on making a better impression though you are quite the mystery yourself, Trix..." he added with a sly grin. He studied her reactions, always looking to see what would get more out of her as he attempted to flirt. He was crashing and burning but his sense of self-confidence never wavered.

He could see Mags smirk at the banter between him and Trixie and rolled his eyes playfully. His attention turned to the question at hand. Why not? "That is the second good idea of the night," he agreed, wasting no time in peeling off his shirt and tossing it on a nearby chair. He looked out to the water, noticing the group that had just been brawling was practically gone. Thankfully. As much as he liked some good drama, he didn't feel like getting his pretty face messed up in some stupid fight. Not tonight.

"Don't tell me that you can't swim. I mean, I'd definitely give you CPR if you needed it," he joked, his eyes back on Trixie. Of course he knew how corny the line was. To be honest, now he was just messing around with her but it was still fun. Downing the last of his drink, he set the cup on the table and waited to see who else was down to swim. Was it possibly dangerous to be going off into the ocean buzzed? Probably but that wouldn't stop him. Besides, the current wasn't so bad.

XANDER

For Cade having such a big mouth, Xander had to admit when he underestimated the guy. For all of the shit those lips of his let him speak and for every taunt, he decided to throw at Xander, especially that which fell on deaf ears unless you could read between the lines, Xander had to give credit where it was due. The right hook and those that followed were solid punches. It might be the only thing he’ll give Cade that wasn’t a reason to punch him but it was out there.

But boy did he royally screw up. Cade revealed his hand too early. He let that testosterone-motivated temper of his get in the way of saving face in front of his dearly beloved. And despite that, despite being the one who threw the first and final punches, leaving Xander with a few too many cuts for his own personal preference, yet again like the boy crazy person she was, Mariana decided to still be by his side. Xander didn’t care. He shouldn’t care. Mariana could be near any guy she so well chose to. She was a grown fucking woman, after all. She has her big girl pants on, so why the fuck should Xander care?

Good question, X. Why do you care?

He doesn’t and it’s about time he moves the hell on. And a one Victoria Hanson, who has always been the person in his life (except for Zeke, of course) who he could count on. She was one of the few people who, in his worst hours, saw him and brought him out of the darkness. But right now? At this very moment, she was the one person who he needed to be with to ...distract himself from Mariana Romano and her flavor of the month boy toy, Cade Hunter.

“Yeah, don’t worry. Cade’s punches were softer than a tempur-pedic pillow.” That was a lie. They were not only on the level of an MMA fighter but the accuracy was so good it kind of scared Xander. Still, they paled in comparison to how hard his father could hit. At the least, Cade didn’t strike him like he wanted to kill Xander. “Sorry I ruined your plans, though. You must be getting tired of picking me up when I'm down.” He tried to laugh but grunted instead when he felt a surprisingly sharp pain at the core of his chest. Damn that Cade.

VICKY
Who would Vicky ever be here for if not for Xander? The boy was so much more than her ex. Except Jared, he was the single one best person Vicky knew and could ask anything from her and she would do it, no questions asked. Vicky was not used to having so many good people around her, people who were not there only because of her money or social status. Naturally, Vicky was rooting for Xander now. Not that she was a fan of the whole fight thing. This was supposed to be fun, the bonfire night. And yet, fucking Cade Hunter couldn’t hold his brutish nature.

When Mariana finally took her latest sweetheart away, Vicky dropped on her knees and tried to see the damage done. Xander’s face was definitely going to show all kinds of colors. And he would feel it for days. But Vicky was here for him, no matter what kind of shit happened, she was always there.

This time, her pack of tissues was ready and she wiped a little blood from the corner of his mouth. “Fucker got you good.” she mumbled and helped him to sit. Hearing him say how he ruined her night, Vicky wanted to punch him. “Shut up, Xander. You didn’t ruin anything. You know I got your ass all the time. And you’re not getting rid of me. Even if you wanted to.” she grinned and reached for her bag again.

A small crowd gathered around, many new faces which Vicky assumed were freshmen. “What? Nothing to see her. Shoo-shoo!” she snapped at them and a few frightened faces ran away, followed by the hesitant others. “Fucking audience. And you are letting her mess up with you too much. If she wants to hook up with Cade, let her. Do I need to find you someone to hook up with as well?” Vicky shook her head and pressed her bottle of bourbon in his hand. “Drink up, love. It will calm your nerves a bit. Do you need to go home or shall we get wasted here?”
