The Inverse World, or simply known as the Other, is a parallel dimension existing in tandem with the real world. In the space that is Other-Tokyo, there lies an organization named Black Babel—a military academy dedicated to the upbringing of Witches. The order possesses but one singular goal: to exterminate the psionic vampires who insatiably prey on the populace of the Other. With a relentless hunger for brain matter and psychic energy, the Vamps wish to cultivate humans into their cattle; securing their sovereignty over both realms of reality. Armed with powerful magic and weapons, Witches fight desperately to prevent humanity's bleak future.
A Witch's magic can be divided into three independent categories: Curses, Charms, and Crafts. Curses are to harm and bind. Charms are to protect and invoke positive effects. Crafts is the classification of creation and the illusory. With these three pillars of magic, a Witch can effectively incapacitate a vampiric threat. But to kill is another subject entirely. Thus the requirement for a Witch's WAND. The Wiccan Anti-eNergy Disperser is a special device typically in the shape of a firearm that unleashes shells of Anti-Energy fatal to Vamps. Aim for the head or the heart and fire—the singular method of exterminating your target. Beyond that, a Witch may have other tricks within their arsenal such as a broom for high-speed flight or potions to enhance their physiology.
The Other is also host to demonic, bestial creatures called Daemons who live alongside the realm's inhabitants in a symbiotic relationship. They come in many shapes and sizes. Some act as companions, some provide resources, some exist as buildings or transportation, but all are useful in one way or another to the denizens of the Other. The Daemons are an integral part of life in this dimension, utilized by both humans and Vamps alike in their daily existence.
You are a member of Black Babel's 176th Xcursion Regiment, or, at least you will be. After years of rigorous academy training, you are on the verge of graduating into a full-fledged member of the order. However, there is one last trial that you must pass: exterminate a Vamp. Your squad arrives at an abandoned home on the eve of your final test. Live or die: this is the choice you will make in your hunt. Relinquish your fears and anxieties, and always hold close the motto of the Xcursionists:

Welcome to this Anime-style RP that centers around an unceasing war between Witches and psionic Vampires. Our setting is the Other (Other-Tokyo specifically), a dimension inverse to the real world that is inaccessible to ordinary humans. The Other has it's own population of normal humans that respectively can't cross to the other side, along with Vamps and Daemons. Witches, through their magic, can hop between the realms.
Other-Tokyo is pretty much the same as modern day Tokyo but with some notable architecture changes such as the huge spiraling blue tower shown in the above picture. That is Black Babel, a military academy and headquarters of the Witches. The world is a mix of modern day conveniences and Daemons taking the shape of numerous things. Think of the Catbus from Totoro for a visual key. There are Daemons in the shape of buildings, trains, buses, giant display screens. Daemons exist that provide natural resources like electricity, coal, natural gas, crops, meat, etc. They basically can fill any niche. Even a Witch's Familiar is a type of Daemon.
You'll be playing a Witch (a unisex term) who will be assigned to the 176th Xcursion Regiment. The 176th is the specific squad. An Xcursion Regiment is the broad term for a Witch squad whose job is to hunt and eliminate Vamps. Black Babel has its own uniforms for its members. There are 2 variants each for males and females. The other standard gear is a WAND which typically looks like a one-handed firearm (something ornate like a fancy flintlock pistol) but can also be in the form of a melee weapon if you so choose. There is a lot of liberty in what your magic can look like. It's Anime so be creative.
I'm looking to tell a story with a small group of players. This RP will be mostly plot-driven and I'm always open for story ideas from my players. I require that you commit to posting at least once per week and be able to communicate with me if you can't do so.

- The origins of witchcraft date back to at least a thousand years in the past, corresponding to the emergence of vampires in both realms of reality. Due to its widespread yet disjointed growth, the practice of witchcraft has had many names throughout time including sorcery and shamanism. As a result of its secretive nature, witchcraft often came to be associated with evil. Black Babel was originally formed as an alliance in the war effort against the Vamps. This produced one major victory: the eradication of vampires from the real world. Now, they are only found in one realm. Over time, Black Babel evolved to become what it is now: an organization dedicated to the training of witches to combat the threat of vampires existing in the Other.
The Black Babel in Other-Tokyo is but one branch among many located all over the world. Other major locations include Tokyo's sister branches in Salem and London. The organization overall is governed by a council of very old and very powerful Witches known as the Upper Coven; while the day-to-day operations of individual branches are left to their respective Lower Covens. Black Babel Witches of the Tokyo branch are given special badges that facilitate travel between realms.
*Addendum | Regarding Magic:
Magic is a heritable trait and this is typically the most common way for a potential Witch to know if they are capable of utilizing magic or not. However, even in the absence of a magical bloodline, an ordinary human can be trained in the use of witchcraft. The process of training isn't guaranteed to work however. One may end up discovering a talent for it but more than likely the training will result in failure. - Witches with ties to Black Babel are given official rankings in terms of their position and power. Promotional exams are given based on recommendations to Witches with the potential to rise up in rank. The rankings are in order of:
- • No Rank: The absence of a rank denotes a new Witch recruit or trainee of the academy.
- • D-Rank: A newly graduate Witch and full-fledged member of the order.
- • C-Rank: An intermediary step. A graduate Witch with at least a year or more of practical experience in their duties.
- • B-Rank: Veteran Witches who take on leading positions within a squad or are instructors for the academy.
- • A-Rank: High-ranking officials and faculty members. Rarely participates in field work.
- • S-Rank: Special Xcursionist Witches who are extremely powerful. They are only assigned the most dangerous missions. They number incredibly few within the order.
When a trainee Witch graduates, they are assigned to one of the following divisions based on their performance and proclivities during their time in the academy:
- • Xcursion Regiment: This division specializes in the hunting and extermination of vampiric individuals who are considered to be threats to public safety.
- • Scouts Regiment: This division conducts field research and ascertains the locations of Vamps. They also provide tactical assistance to Xcursion squads. They do not typically engage in combat.
- • Medical Corps: This division is responsible for providing medical care and treatment on-and-off the field to members of Black Babel.
- • Conservation Brigade: This division handles any and all matters relating to Daemons from general husbandry to the domestication of wild Daemons.
- • Research & Development: This division is in charge of the production of technologies and potions for Black Babel. Their most notable invention being that of the modern Witch's WAND.
- There are two variants each of the male and female uniforms that is standard to Black Babel Witches:
Male
Type A
Type B
Female
Type A
Type B
All uniforms are to be worn with black trousers/leggings and either dress shoes or boots. Additionally, a cloak is provided with all uniforms, usually emblazoned with their division symbol on the back of the cloak. Lastly, a cap is also provided though its usage is purely optional. - Supernatural fiends that possess extraordinary physical attributes as well as dangerous psychic powers. In addition, they have rapid regenerative abilities and are immortal in terms of aging. A human can be transformed into a Vamp via the transfusion of vampiric blood which is black in color. Black Babel Witches are cursed with a spell that causes death by immolation if they imbibe vampiric blood, whether by their own free will or otherwise.
Vamps look nearly indistinguishable from normal humans aside from their paler skin—sometimes almost ivory white—and notable fangs. However, this isn't the case initially. Upon transitioning to a Vamp, the former human will lose all of their hair and their features become more beast-like. This initial state is colloquially referred to as the 'Larval' stage. In this state, they act more on instinct than intellect, akin to a wild animal. Only after feeding on a sufficient amount of brain matter will a Vamp transition to their final state. A larval Vamp that feeds off a Witch is said to become something particularly dangerous.
A fully-matured Vamp will regrow their hair as well as regain their human intelligence and will. They'll lose all of their monstrous features and will once again resemble a human physically. As they consume more brain matter, they will eventually gain they ability to feed off psychic energy. The more they feed, the stronger they naturally become.
Vamps have no reflection and cast no shadows. Due to their highly regenerative bodies, they can quickly recover from most attacks including even injuries caused by a Witch's magic. Sunlight and Anti-Energy however hinders their regeneration enough so that it's fatal to them, which is why a WAND is a necessity. Contrary to urban folklore, Vamps do not fear garlic, crucifixes, or running water. They also do not need invitation to enter a domain. - Daemons are categorized by their physical size. These classifications are as followed:
- • Imp-Class: Any Daemon up to the size of a large dog.
- • Golem-Class: Daemons ranging from the previous max size to the size of a large bear.
- • Dragon-Class: A diverse class of Daemons that can reach the size of a small building.
- • Titan-Class: Any large building-sized Daemon and beyond.
Familiars are a type of Daemon, typically Imp-Class in size. They highly resemble beasts but are some of the few Daemons capable of human speech. Witches tend to keep Familiars as personal companions as they can assist with a variety of things including participation in battle. Witches can augment their Familiars' abilities through their Crafts. - This is an alphabetical list of currently known common Daemons and their function as revealed so far in the RP. More will be added as the plot continues and/or as they're created by the players:
Chronomaton | Imp-Class
A fleshy fungal clam carried on the spindly legs of an orb-weaver; it opens to reveal a time piece that shifts ever closer to the future. It can also be instructed to do specific, limited actions when it hits a certain time, such as 'inch forward' or 'snap open'.
Firefly | Imp-Class
Tiny translucent fetuses with insect-like wings encased in a spherical red womb. Fireflies glow with a bright light when awakened from their slumber, making them an excellent light source.
Hookworm | Imp-Class
A rigid elongated shell houses its main body which is extremely stretchy. At the end of its body is a head lined with small hook-like teeth. This Daemon's intended use is a self-propelled grappling hook.
Lash | Imp-Class
A three-headed and three-tailed oil-blackened viper fused with a single sinuous body. The Daemon can strike out up to three meters away, stretching far longer than its body should allow. It bats at things or tugs them in close, scarring or grappling with its fangs as it sees fit.
Oculus | Imp-Class
A small creature that slips around the eye and offers enhanced vision, both increasing the user's perceptive distance and their ability to see psionic energy gaps or Other-ly remnants from afar. Looks roughly like a ring of twigs brimming with a faint amber lichen, enclosing a foggy lens.
Oculus Aliudque | Imp-Class
An amalgamation of multiple imp-class Daemons, Oculus. It’s vision enhancement abilities have been upgraded and can be tweaked with multiple setting levels of enhancements.
Shrike | Imp-Class
Small black avian-like creature with two pairs of wings and no other appendages. When thrown, it will swiftly bounce back and forth in an enclosed space, piercing through anything it makes contact with multiple times and entangling its intended target with strong silk-like threads. It will however never attack its wielder.
Veru | Imp-Class
A small, larvae-like creature. When it's belly is pressed, it hacks up a gooey spit that can be used to disinfect wounds and will eventually harden into a liquid bandage.
