MOVE IN DAY
GOLF TOURNAMENT
PICNIC ON THE GREENS

August 25th

Move-in day is upon Willowbridge University, and every student is racing to get their dorm rooms set up for the new semester. New and returning faces can be seen hauling boxes and bags over to Birch and Oak Hall, where they'll spend the next three and a half months studying and enjoying all that Willowbridge has to offer.

But that's not the only event taking place today. The Willowbridge Country Club is hosting its annual golf tournament. Both groups and single golfers can vie for the grand prize of $500. Second and third place get $250 and $100 respectively.

Fancy a picnic? The other section of the country club's free to all Willowbridge residents for BBQing, grilling, and picnicking purposes.

There's never a dull moment in Willowbridge. Hope to see you there!

  • Kendall Bryan

    My Gal, My Guy

tw: Kendall being gross and cringe.

Kendall Bryan was unbelievably hyped. Why, might you ask? Because the Willowbridge Country Club was opening its doors to regular folks like Kendall. He could never get in otherwise - such was the life of a bartender/aspiring musician. Though, he had tried to bribe the man at the door plenty of times...to little success. Hey, a crisp Lincoln could get you somewhere. Maybe not entry into an exclusive, members-only club, but it could take you to McDonald's to order off of the dollar menu. And a good cheeseburger never hurt anybody.

Anyway, on this fine August day, he found himself at the grocery store, stockpiling a stash of various meats to put on the grill at the club. Did he have any experience grilling? Hell no. But was he going to take advantage of the stainless steel, high quality equipment available to him? Hell yeah. He was the KMan, and nobody was ever going to forget that. Or maybe they would. How was he supposed to know? As great as he was, he wasn't an omnipotent god or anything like that. But wouldn't it be badass if he was?

Probably not. But Kendall thought so, and that was all that mattered. He pushed his cart full of meat over to the checkout, sliding the packs of pork, beef, and chicken across the conveyor belt over to the unenthused cashier. He made eye contact with the silver-haired cougar, and he knew that he wanted his pork inside of her. MILFs were, like, his dream conquest. Why, nobody asked? Well, for starters, they already had children of their own, so they didn't want more with him. Secondly, those children were all grown up now. He didn't have to be anyone's stepdad. So yeah, getting with a MILF would be fuckin' awesome.

"Hey there, pretty mama. How's about we go into the storage room back there and get our freak on?"

"Kid, I'd advise you to shut the hell up if you know what's good for you."

The cashier didn't even look up from scanning a pack of chicken legs as Kendall stood there at the register, absolutely bewildered that a hot piece of ass had rejected him. This would have been the start of his Joker arc if he really wanted to get revenge, but he didn't even have any good comebacks prepared at the ready, so he just quietly paid, took his bags, and scurried out the automatic sliding doors out to the parking lot. Sometimes he wasn't successful, despite a handsome face and rockin' bod. He never knew why, though. It certainly couldn't be because of his amazing pickup lines, that was for sure. He had bagged nearly forty partners already - and he wanted more.

He tossed the bags of groceries into the bed of his Jeep truck, arguably the most badass vehicle ever created, before hopping in the driver's seat and zooming off towards the opposite end of town. Willowbridge Country Club, here he comes. LOL, comes. Like in a dirty way. God, Kendall was hilarious.

6 AM. Her phone buzzed off the hook. Strewn across her bed were the remnants of paychecks, solo cups, and random things that she never remembered putting there the night before. She’d stirred and checked her phone:

WHERE ARE YOU?
VI
VI
VI
VI
WE HAVE TO GO
YOU'RE GOING TO BE LATE
DID YOU DRINK AGAIN?
Missed call
Missed call
Missed call

About a million more texts after that. Her eyes widened, but still got out of bed without a rush. She texted back:

No

She looked around. She very much did drink last night. Her room in the townhome purchased by her Uncle for the two of them was a mess. At least, her room was. Clothes were strewn everywhere, unknown spills. She’ll clean up later, after work. “Fuuuuuuuuck,” She said in a long, drawn-out statement. She had to work on move-in day. Rubbing her eyes, and getting her shit together, she walked into the bathroom. Looking in the mirror, she saw herself- “Gotta fix that up”. So, she grabbed a quick shower, threw on her working clothes, and grabbed her makeup bag. She checked her phone again before rushing out the door.

Missed Call
Missed Call
I’m leaving without you.

Theo was sitting in his car in the driveway. His bright red truck was filled to the brim in the back with all of his stuff. She smiled and waved at him, and he glared back. It was 6:25. She had to be at work to open at 6:45. Leaping into his car, her hair still wet, she says “Hey, Theo.” He doesn’t respond. “So what, you’re going to give me the silent treatment now?” He turns and responds to her before putting the car into reverse. “I have stuff to do, Vivian.” She hated when he called her that. It usually meant he was upset. “You don’t have to be moving in until 8.” She’d flipped down the mirror as he reversed out of their driveway. “Yeah, but I don’t want to see you late.” She’d started taking out her makeup and putting on a face quickly, It only took her long enough for them to get down to the end of the road. She was quick at doing makeup. “Vi, I’m worried about you. You keep pushing it. You might be late for work.” He says while taking a sip out of his GIANT water bottle. “I’m okay, Theo,” she responds. While he drove down the road, they were listening to some sort of rap music. The light wasn’t even breaking through in that early morning. The dew was still there. Sprinklers were still on. Houses on each side of the road didn’t even have their lights on. She’d quickly taken out a cigarette and lit it. “Roll the window down,” Theo said. She did.

“Can I DJ?” She asked, and he gave her his phone. Hooked up to the Bluetooth, she searched for a song by Orville Peck. “Dead of Night.” The sound filled up the car. Theo smiled. This was the song they played when they drove down to Texas after hearing about Theo’s scholarship. It was a peaceful 23-minute drive. Vi took a long drag from her cigarette. “How are you feeling about football?” She asked. “Pretty good, I’ve been doing pretty well at practice at least.” He smiled, and she smiled back. It was almost like their argument a few minutes ago wasn’t even there. It was just like old times. “How’s Sage?” She asked. “Oh, she’s, doing her thing.” This was a bit of a colder response. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

“I don’t know, Vi.”

They kept driving, and “Sextape” played. they were driving past the main street, just about to pull up to the Brew. “Dad’s been wanting you to get a car so that I won’t be late for practice anymore.” She nodded but knew she wasn’t going to do that anytime soon. She loved riding with Theo. Uber’s aren’t available in this small town. There are only a few drivers available and takes forever to get one. “I’ll think about it.” She said as she pulled out her flask. “Vi, not this morning, you have work.” She laughed at him and took a swig. “Just need a little- pick me up.” He’d pulled over to the outside of the brew, and she hopped out. “See you at 4,” She said. He smiled back. “See you at 4,” and he pulled away. Turning around, she opened up shop, turning the lights on, and the machines, and cleaning up. She had put her wire headphones in at this point and was just jamming out. Only one person needed to be at the shop, and that was her, almost every day. 7 AM, the “Open” sign flickered on. Regulars poured in, and she already had their drinks ready. They spoke in small talk, mostly about the Bulls football season this year, and she responded. “Have a good one, Vi.” They usually said. She only wondered about one thing, what was going on while she was at the coffee shop. She texted Sage.

Hey, everything alright with you and Theo?

It was going to be a good year, and as she sipped her coffee in the early morning, she was just getting started

gone were the days of her not having to set an alarm, gone were the days of her being able to sleep in each and every single day. why? because the beginning of the school year was upon them, letting everyone know it was back to the 'old grind' as some people would call it. right now, it was 'move-in day' or where students like herself would arrive back onto campus to move back in to their dorm rooms or wherever it was they were staying at.

brianna? she was lucky enough not to have just some random roommate this year. this year, she had her best friend, delia hathaway, as her roommate, which was amazing, considering the fact that they practically knew each other inside and out. she just knew delia wasn't going to give her a hard time and vice versa. probably one of the only things she was really, truly looking forward to when returning to campus — seeing her friends again and hanging out with them. with their encouragement, she'd be able to make it through this school year in one piece.

making her way towards her shared dorm room, she moved a strand of hair from her face. she took note of a freshman boy who was heading from the same direction she was heading towards with a stupid look on his face. she couldn't help but roll her eyes. please let the freshman of this year be at least somewhat bearable...

opening the door, she poked her head inside, a bright smile forming on her face the second she saw delia.

" delia! " she called out, stepping in even further. she had arrived a little bit earlier than her best friend did, so her stuff was already up there ( and she was helped by some people because her manicure was fresh and she didn't want to break a nail ).

Delia Hathaway

This Is What Makes Us Girls

Having everything done for her or handed to her on a silver platter had made Delia a spoiled brat, to put it nicely. So to have to unpack box after box of dorm essentials was utter torture for her. Couldn't she, like, pay an interior designer to do all the hard work for her? Her side of the room needed to be a representation of herself, plain and simple. She knew what she envisioned, but making that vision a reality herself would take a lot of time and patience - neither of which she had at the moment. But, what Delia did know was fashion. So that's where she started first, unboxing her fall wardrobe from most of the boxes set aside for her. There were two closets in the space, one for each girl. And as she hung jackets, blouses, skirts, and everything in between, Delia was quickly running out of space. The rest of her wardrobe would have to be sent to her parents' home, a custom-built mini mansion sitting on four acres of land just on the outskirts of town. She would have plenty of room to store her clothes in her walk-in closet there.

Delia absolutely despised having to stay in Willowbridge for college. And if she had gotten her way, she would have left Texas behind altogether for a cushy NYC stay or a sunny LA experience. But, of course, there was a problem. A 5'8, identical twin-sized problem. She had begged and pleaded Drew to go to a better school, one with national recognition and status. Of course, Drew wanted to be hard-headed and plant his feet firmly into the muddy ground, refusing to even consider any other option besides Willowbridge University. And their parents wanted them to stick together. How sweet. But at least now she'd be rooming with her bestie. Things couldn't be much worse now, could they?

Delia sure hoped not. This year would be her best year yet - at least, that's what she kept telling herself. She would be able to soar beyond everyone's expectations of her if only she put her mind to it. That meant no distractions - but here in Willowbridge, there were so many. What would she do? Delia didn't have to think about it long, because the sound of a familiar voice filled her ears. Her eyes lit up when she saw Brianna at the door. She dropped whatever was in her hands, rushing over to embrace her best friend. After hugging for what seemed like forever, she finally pulled away and began to speak. "How was your summer vacation? Did you meet any cute boys? Girls? Anyone that I would like?"

    Just another semester.
That's all it was. Leo was at the point in his life where all he wanted to do was keep his head down and get to graduation. Yeah, he was the kind of guy who really liked school. A nerd, really. He actually enjoyed going to classes, studying, and learning things. However, he didn't have much in terms of a social life. He wasn't out partying every night like so many of his peers. He didn't have many friends. Too scared to talk to girls (well, one girl in particular, but that's a story for another day), his romantic prospects were bleak. There wasn't a lot keeping him attached to life at Willowbridge. He just wanted to get his degree within the next couple years and get out, he didn't need to go making any waves on campus.
He'd always had a roommate, if not multiple roommates, since housing was more affordable that way. No stranger to a shared space, Leo had experienced his fair share of shitty roommates. These inconsiderate roommates did annoy him a little bit, but Leo kept to himself and mostly avoided any major issues. Since he didn't really have friends he'd choose to room with, he always went with a random roommate selection. Typically, he wouldn't be too phased at moving into a shared room, he's done it a few times in the past couple years. Maybe a little nervous about meeting a new person, sure. But he knew he could handle the scenario. However, this semester was different, thanks to who he'd figured out his roommate was.
Drew Hathaway. Drew fucking Hathaway. Just Leo's luck. Drew wouldn't know who he was, but Leo definitely knew of Willowbridge's star quarterback. He seemed like a total dick. The quarterback also had a reputation for being a huge playboy, which made Leo worry that he was about to be sexiled from the room a lot. Whatever, he could always sleep on a library couch or something, he'd done it before. Yeah, he was a bit intimidated by Drew for sure. But, don't underestimate Leo. He grew up with four rowdy siblings in a small house. Although he'd be annoyed, he knew he could take a lot in terms of a shitty living situation.
Making his way to Oak Hall, boxes of his stuff in tow, he prepared to meet his nightmare of a roommate. It wouldn't be that bad, would it? Yeah, it probably would. He arrived at his dorm room and peeked in to see his new roomie. "Um, hi. I'm Leo, your roommate. Nice to meet you."

Blaire Warden

Familiarity breeds contempt

Freshman year. The start of the most amazing years of your lives.. not. Blaire would’ve sold her kidney to be anywhere but stuck living in some shitty dorm with people she barely knew. She liked her space, and she like her things a certain way and if her ‘roomie’ wasn’t going to follow her rules there was going to be hell to pay. Blaire already didn’t want to be here in the first place and it seemed like the only way she was going to get out of this hell hole was in handcuffs and if that was the way it was going to be, so be it.

Her parents had dragged her out of bed at the ass crack of dawn to pack up the rest of her belongs to head over to her new home for the next few months. That’s where she had been all morning, unloading her stuff into the dorm room and getting lecture by her parents the whole time. Don’t do this, don’t do that—blah blah blah. It wasn’t anything Blaire hadn’t heard before but, she put on her usual façade and just smiled. She smiled until her cheeks were burning and she could’ve sworn her face would’ve gotten stuck like that if they hadn’t left when they did.

Finally, Blaire felt like she could breathe well, the air felt significantly less stuffy with her parents gone. She had the room to herself, for now, and she couldn’t help her mind from traveling to who she might be rooming with as she sank down into her beds mattress and pulled out her phone, scrolling aimlessly— impatiently waiting to see who was going to walk through that door.

Hana Glenn

knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom -Aristotle

Hana’s tiny, little white car was brimming with everything she owned. The had to take two cars, much to her dismay, because her car just wouldn’t carry everything she needed for the school year. Hana had been waiting for this day for forever. Her parents were finally letting her out their grasp and this was finally her chance to let loose and have a little fun, even though she was stuck in some premed program— a condition of her actually being able to even go to university in the first place. Even with the conditions, this was her chance to step out of the nest and flap her wings.. she just hoped she wouldn’t fall to untimely death.

Hana’s hands gripped the steering wheel, her knuckles turning white as she pulled up to the residency office. Her parents waited outside while she gathered her new room keys and a little booklet on the rules and regulations of the dorm room. Excitement swelled in her chest as she clutched her new keys tightly and headed off to her new home for next few months.

It took about an hour to get everything unloaded, and about two hours for Hana to decorate and put everything away while her parents coddled her the whole time. When it was all said and done Hana finally sank down into the plush mattress while they exchanged their good byes. Tears were shed for her mother, naturally. But, even her dad shed a few tears of his own which even made Hana eyes well up. Eventually, after a long, hard, and emotional goodbye Hana was on her own for the first in, well, ever.

First the first time in 22 years Hana took a deep breath as she let a couple of tears slip down her cheeks as she took a moment to truly enjoy the silence of not having her parents watching over her shoulder. Then, when she had collected herself, she grabbed her phone and texted Maddox to confirm she was still going with her to the picnic, like she had promised. Sure enough, she was at her shop. Hana wasted no time in grabbing her car keys and dashing out the door, vibrating with excitement.

Hana parked parallel to the shop and waited, until she didn’t want to wait anymore and got out, ambling up to the front door. A cool blast of ac hit her face as soon as she walked through. She has always loved Maddox’s tattoo shop.. which was one of the reasons her parents didn’t particularly like Maddox all that much but, Hana didn’t care. Mads was the one person she could turn to for anything, even more so than her own parents. She didn’t know what she would do with out her.

Hana stepped up to the counter and rang the bell, pushing her sunglasses onto the top of her head in an attempt to get her long red hair out of her face.

“Maddox? Are you ready to go?” She called out, waiting for answer. She was practically buzzing. Hana had always seen the country club but her parents never allowed her to actually go. But, now that she was on her own. She could do whatever she wanted and she was ready to try everything, even the bad.

willowbridge, texas probably wasn't the best place for a girl like her. brianna came from the city — she was used to the hustle and bustle of the cars driving up and down the street, as well has having multiple malls, loads of stores, and even a whole amusement park that was on the border of two states (hence its admittedly lowkey creative name). since this was a small town, there was none of those things here. needless to say, it was quite the adjustment going from a big city to a small town where even a regular sized classroom didn't seem to feel full enough.

before brianna could really get a chance to think on it, she was fully inside of her shared room with delia, hugging the other tightly. her still had her own bag in her hand, her quickly throwing it in the direction of her bag before continuing to hug her best friend. after a little while, she pulled apart from her, adjusting her shirt a little bit with a genuine smile on her face.

'how was your summer vacation?' an expected question. this wouldn't be the first time this entire week she would be asked about what she got up to during her summer vacation. already, from the moment she got back on campus, she had been asked a total of three times. however, before she was able to give delia an answer, she heard the second part. 'did you meet any cute boys? girls?' and that prompted her to playfully roll her eyes, shaking her head at her best friend's question. of course, this was what her best friend was going to ask her. she she expect anything less from delia hathaway?

"i mean, my summer was literally nothing compared to yours, but it was pretty damn good! spent most of july at the beach." she started, walking towards her bed and plopping down, crossing her legs. the usually quiet female instantly seemed to become pretty talkative around the people she was comfortable with. "no special person in my love life, though. sorry to disappoint. but how about you? how was your trip out the states?"

Gracie Miller

Loneliness is in the absence of connection, not company

Gracie’s platform heels sunk into the ground of the massive perfectly manicured field of the golf tournament, her long blonde hair curled to perfection while her was beat to the gods. Her father was in the golf tournament, that was the only reason she was even here today, dressed up in her blue vest and white pleated skirt in almost 95 degree heat. But, even with the heat and her father dragging her along, she was excited. Gracie didn’t really get out of the house so much, she didn’t really need too. She has had everything she could ever want or need provided for her from her father. He keeps her coddled, and locked away in her “tower” aka her room for the last 24 years of her life.

Her father never allowed her to have any passions or interests beyond those of, makeup, fashion and buying whatever he thought she wanted. So, being able to leave the “safe” confines of her bedroom was big deal for her. Gracie swept her long blonde hair over her shoulder as she walked through the grass. She had to stand on her tippy toes to stop her heels from sinking down Into the soft dirt and grass. She took a look around at all the smiling faces and smiled with them. She was happy that they were having fun, despite being alone by herself.

Gracie brought her glass to her lips to take a sip but she found it empty. Frowning, Gracie turned around, completely unaware of the man behind her with loads of bags in his hands.

“Oh! I’m so sorry..” she bent down quickly to retrieve the runaway items and handed them back to him. It was in the moment her heart leapt out of chest and she swallowed thickly, dusting her fingers off to the side of her, carefully not to get any dirt on her pristine white skirt.

“Oh.. I didn’t see you there. Im sorry.. Do you need any help with those bags?”

Sebastian put the last of his boxes in the U Haul and closed it up as he did his final walk through of his apartment. Sebastian was moving in with his girlfriend Riley and going into med school. Riley and Sebastian had been inseparable since they met freshman year. Although it was strictly friendly it was obvious that they had chemistry. The group outings started turning into just them hanging at each other's apartments, going to dinner, having study sessions together. Sebastian cared deeply about Riley but never thought anything more about them. It was Roman one day before his senior year questioning his feelings. He said to Sebastian You are meant to be together and you got one more year before you all separate. You're going to let her walk out of your life into someone else's. Sebastian told him to shut up like he usually does. He started pondering and came to the conclusion he didn't just like Riley but loved this girl. So he confessed it and they started dating and now going into grad and med school they decided to live together in a house.

Sebastian started the car up knowing his life was about to change forever. He looked at his phone and saw his girlfriend text and smiled. I’m on my way to leave the door open.
When he arrived he went inside and looked at the girl's house being packed up. Well babe… it's happening. You are stuck with me now. He said as he came behind her and kissed her on the cheek.

  • Drew Hathaway

    Pursuit of Happiness

Drew had begun to unpack, his belongings quickly spreading beyond his side of the room. But, because he figured that Leo wouldn't show, he didn't care. He'd be able to push the two twin beds together for extra bed space. It would certainly help his partners feel more comfortable, that was for sure. His dorm room was the prime place for partying, though it wasn't as big as, let's say, a frat house. Drew wasn't very into the idea of belonging to one of the many fraternities on campus. He had the notoriety and status that his athletic abilities gave him, as well as the Hathaway last name to get him through life. If it wasn't for his grandfather, who knows who he'd be today? He'd probably be just another nobody. The mere thought of that sent shivers down his spine. Drew knew exactly who he was, and who he was going to be. There was never a single doubt in the back of his mind about that. He was going to be the next Tom Brady one day. The scouts came out to see him practice and play all the time. In his eyes, he was going to be prime real estate for any NFL team to draft him in a couple of years.

That is, if he didn't get hurt or benched. But that wasn't going to happen. Drew wouldn't let it. Two more seasons and he'd be out of here. But for now, he was stuck in Willowbridge per his father's request and his own stubbornness. Playing for a bigger college would surely get him more notoriety, but everyone loves an underdog story, right? Maybe one day they'd make a movie about him. Wouldn't that be thrilling? He loved being the center of attention. It's why Delia hated him and his parents doted on him. Life was sweet. He was the king of Willowbridge. Everyone knew that...except for Leo, who had the absolute gall to show up. Drew turned up his nose at the sight of his roommate. Great. He looked squirrelly, like he would break at the mere sight of danger. It wouldn't be that hard to get him to run, judging by the looks of him.

Um, hi. I'm Leo, your roommate. Nice to meet you. Drew managed to hold back a laugh that threatened to emanate from within. He actually did it. He really thought that they would be the best of friends. As if. "Whatever. Listen, how much will it take for you to live somewhere else? Money? Girls? Status? Name your price and I'll pay up." Drew sized him up - he surely could use a girl on his arm. He was probably a lonely virgin - the thought alone made him want to laugh again. What a total loser.

Billie Benson
IMG_0241.gif

Billie was excited for this new school year. She’d been in school for a while, but she’d been taking her classes slow as to not get overwhelmed with the school load. But, she enjoyed her major. She loved working with the plants and learning more about them. She wanted to be the best botanist to exist. And with her grades she was working her way toward that. Her professors loved her, loved how her mind worked, and how easily she picked up her studies despite her… lack of smarts everywhere else. People always thought she was just some blonde bimbo. They never believed her when she told them she was in botany and plant studies. But at least her professors did and that was all she cared about.
Hopping out of her dads truck, the girl adjusted her Outfit from the long drive. That was one thing she did love, was dressing up and showing off no matter the occasion, “well honey, another few months without you. Are you excited?” Her dad asked and Billie nodded enthusiastically while her brothers unloaded the back of the truck to place on a luggage trolley. The group helped Billie take her things up to the dorm and with a few small hugs and her mom sniffling, the family left and Billie stepped into the room alone, “oh hi! You must be Blaire, my parents told me so much about you!” She said excitedly and instantly bounced over to her new roomie to give her a hug, “I got a lot of stuff. So I’m sorry if that bothers you, just let me know and I can keep some of it packed. But I always found that decorating the room gives me more motivation to do my school work. Makes it less prisoney and more homey in here.” She said with a smile and instantly began to unpack her boxes.
”Do you think there will be any parties tonight?” She asked Blaire as she unfolded her mattress cushion and began making the bed. The bedding was kind of awful, but once you get to know Billie, the blue with white ruffles definitely makes sense, “usually the frat boys throw a party every year to kickoff the year. I wonder if they’re throwing one.” She finished babbling and finally sat on her bed to scroll through her contact list to figure out who hasn’t graduated yet and who has to figure out this party situation.

Maddox made a promise.

That's how she started out her day. Acknowledging she made a promise and unlike others, she doesn't like to break them. And she had made a promise to one girl that she swore to always have come first. Hana was the one girl that she couldn't handle disappoint. Like the other outcasts, she considered her family. Unlike other outcasts, Hana was much closer to her than most. When her father was alive and kicking, he wanted her to have good role models and people around her growing up.

Maybe because of her unhealthy obsession with knives but who knows.

Hana was of course the top candidate for that friendship because of her father being the pastor and all. Maddox to be honest, didn't spare the girl a second glance. She just accepted her as a part of her space but she didn't interact with her. She was just there then came the day that Maddox saw her getting bullied. Something in her snapped, maybe through the time that they were forced together, she had actually grown to care for the girl. All she knows is that after that day, Hana became a big part of her life like with all the outcasts. She became a safe place for her, she let her hide out at her home if she needed to. She was her secret keeper if she needed a place to spill.

Maddox was there for her throughout everything, and she couldn't imagine a day without the redhead annoying her in the most lovely way. So when Hana came to her about having a picnic, she couldn't say no. She promised that she would do it with her. And that is why she was at her shop, telling her employees to not screw up her shop or to help her she will throw knives at all of them. She was in the midst of this threat when she heard her best friend call out her name. "I have to go now, but remember, knives. "

She told them all curtly as she moves to the front of the shop. Now Maddox doesn't do emotions, she hates it but she had a small but there smile when she came towards the front and saw her favorite people waiting for her. "I'm coming H. Sorry, I had to threaten them with knives because last time, they actually tried to close the shop early without my permission and of course, they didn't take my threat seriously. " She states coldly. Anyone who didn't know Maddox would think that she was just a cold person because she just hides her emotions well because she doesn't understand them.

"Come on, don't we have a picnic with like the cute shit, you wanted to do?" She asks her as she smirked at her. "Plus your first day of freedom H, we gotta go explore the town. It's only right."

Gracie Miller

Loneliness is in the absence of connection, not company

Gracie had always had a good, kind, and sweet heart. Her nanny had instilled in her ever since she was a child that it takes nothing to be a kind soul and Gracie strived to be a kind gentle energy to anyone she crossed paths with. Which ultimately meant, she’d often get used and thrown away when they were done with her. Somehow she always attracted the bad people of the world and it made her guarded. Nobody knows who Gracie really is, besides what she decides to show them. But, that kindness in her was made her stop and help the man.

“Don’t be sorry, little darlin’.” Gracie had to stop herself from cringing outwardly. She had been in Texas her whole life, so she could spot a fake accent anywhere but, Gracie being Gracie— she just went along with it— putting on the biggest smile she could muster.

“You'd really help me out? You don't even know me." Gracie shook her head, opening her mouth to say something but the man beat her to the punch.

"I don't want you to do anything you don't wanna do, now." Gracie pulled her grip on the bag tighter. “But if you want to help, I could use a little help getting out to the grills. These bags are mighty heavy, though. Are you sure you could handle it?"

“Yeah!” She exclaimed, before he had a chance to open his mouth and continuing talk. Man, he could talk your ear off but, Gracie didn’t mind. A small smile crept into her lips. She couldn’t help but be attracted to the man standing front of her, despite his cringey fake southern accent.

“I can handle a few bags,” She nodded her head, resolutely. “To the grill right?” She asked, moving in the direction of the country club’s patio.

“So..I’m Gracie, Gracie Miller” She told him, looking over to him as they both fell in step, towards the patio.

“What’s your name?” She asked, looking over at him, “and, are you from Willowbridge?”

Leo's living options were limited, he knew that. He might barely be able to afford the shittiest apartment in town with his part time, minimum wage salary, and even then that was probably a stretch. His financial aid from the school included money for housing, which meant being placed with a roommate, sucking it up and living there. If he turned it down, then the school would assume he didn't need it and any aid he got in the future would likely be reduced. There wasn't much wiggle room for him to just up and leave, finding somewhere new to live. Leo Barber was here to stay, unfortunately for both himself and Drew.

Stepping into the room a little further, he saw how his roommate's belongings infiltrated his side of the room as well. What a dick. Leo certainly wasn't expecting a warm welcome, but the non greeting he got from Drew was worse than expected. Not even a neutral hello, no introduction, getting straight to making it clear he wanted him out. Although he was too nervous to laugh, Leo found the approach a bit laughable. The approach seemed so immature to him. This tough guy couldn't even cope with the possibility of sharing a room. "What?" He blinked once, indicating a rather exasperated confusion. "No, I'm, I'm living here, this is my dorm room too. Don't really need those things." Yeah, he could actually use the money, but whatever Drew would offer up would likely be nothing up against the thousands of dollars of financial aid on the line. He didn't really care about his social status, all he wanted to do was keep his head down and get through his classes. Girls? Well, that he could use help with, but he didn't trust Drew for a second. Leo found him offering up girls as a sort of currency a little creepy if he was being honest. Still, Leo tried to smile and sound positive, he didn't want to seem mean, even if Drew seemed to be going out of his way to be rude. He started unpacking his things, claiming his side of the room that was notably less than half of the room, but he wasn't going to pick that fight now.

"If you have so much to offer then why are you living here? Can't you go somewhere else?" He asked. Fuck. Fuck. Shit. Why would he say that? He'd meant for it to come off as a genuine question and not a sarcastic remark. He cursed his social ineptitude. He was going to get his ass kicked. He averted his gaze, focusing on his things instead of looking at Drew for a reply. This was going to be a long year.

  • " florence, italy still sounds like a good time. "
brianna responded, a smirk on her face at the other's regret at not going to the beach. she honestly didn't know why she didn't at least consider leaving the states for a little bit this summer, probably because she felt as though she had nowhere to really go. she could've went to london, or maybe she could've went somewhere like japan or paris, but she was so excited to have a break from school that she was pretty content with staying in the country. she crossed her legs, feeling her mattress bounce a little bit as she did so.

just as she had expected, it seemed as though delia had a good time this summer. the mention of a female fling was enough to make brianna smile — she'd expect nothing less from her best friend. it's not like her own love life was stale, it's just that she didn't encounter anyone who she was really truly interested in over the summer, at least not anyone who was single. she was not, and will never be, a homewrecker. however, she wasn't going to go into detail about it. summer was over, they were back on campus for the school year and, at the end of the day, it is what it is.

" i mean, on my way back here, i happened to spot a certain male who had some money in his hand and the stupidest smile on his face. "
in other words, it seemed like he had been wrapped around delia's fingers.
" you should've kept him in here to do the unpacking... well, no, because the last thing i wanna do is risk throwing a shoe to the side of his head for doing some stupid shit. "
she let out a small laugh, shaking her head.
" you ready for this school year? "
she asked, standing up so that she could get some of her own unpacking done.

  • Kendall Bryan

    My Gal, My Guy

Kendall didn't know when he had become this way, if he was being entirely honest with himself. All he knew was that he was totally awesome, even if everyone else didn't think that way. Cringy? Absolutely. But Kendall didn't think he was. He wasn't inherently "bad", by any means, but what he was...was something entirely new. Many people didn't know how to take him. He was a strange creature, but he was at peace with himself. Kendall rolled with the punches that life threw at him. He wasn't going to let anything get in his way. This hottie standing before him was definitely a good sign. He'd be crushed if she wasn't vibing on him. He would just have to move on with his life and find someone else who was willing to vibe on him.

The thing was, he wasn't very good at picking up on if someone was vibing on him or not. So he kept things cordial and friendly as they began to head over to the patio area. "Gracie, huh? I love that name." Kendall had since dropped the cheesy accent - it wasn't doing him any favors. Even an idiot such as himself knew that. Her last name didn't sound familiar to him, but, then again, he rarely paid attention to last names. That wasn't his fault - who needed to get to know anyone that you were just gonna get your freak on with then dip? "My name? It's Kendall, but most people call me the KMan." That was mostly a lie - he was pretty much the only one to use that nickname on himself.

"And no, I'm not originally from here. I'm like...a wandering soul. But I've been here for a few years now. Maybe I'll settle down here. I don't know though...I take it one day at a time. Whatever happens, happens, you know?" He shrugged as they reached the grills, setting the bags in his hands down on a table nearby. "Did you...maybe...wanna stay and have dinner with me? Nothing sexual or anything. I just have all this meat. I can't eat it all myself." He studied Gracie, unsure of what her response would be. All he knew was that there was going to be a lot of leftovers. Maybe he'd freeze the rest and warm it up on a cold day. Could you freeze barbequed meat? He couldn't see why not.

THELONIUS COLT
tags: geminiy geminiy location: Vi's House, T+L Apt. ; company: Vi

“God Damnit Vi!”

Theo exclaimed as he texted rapidly on his phone. Quickly approaching and passing was the time they spoke about getting up and going. His move-in time was coming up- fast. He needed Vi at work as soon as he could get her there so that he has ample time to relax before practice. He called her. Texted her. Spammed her. He gave up.

I’m leaving without you.

He actually might. No, he wouldn’t. He would never leave Vi stranded. He always considered her his closest friend- almost like a sister. He would do anything to protect her and make her safe. If she had gone off alone, she probably wouldn’t even make it to work. So instead he waited and waited, and waited. Until finally, the wet-haired small girl leaped into his truck.

“Hey, Theo.” She said, he looked away. He never liked being late, but for some reason, Vi was always. The pair were opposites. He began to think about what she was doing while he was waiting in the car. Praying, that she wasn’t drinking in the morning like she used to.

“So what, you’re going to give me the silent treatment now?”

He snapped out of the inner workings of his mind. “I have stuff to do, Vivian.” He never really calls her by her full name. Even the guys on the team shorten it to just “Vee.” Both she and Theo have such long names, too many syllables.

“You don’t have to be moving in until 8.” She said as they pulled out of the driveway. “Yeah, but I don’t want to see you late. Vi, I’m worried about you, you keep pushing it. You might be late for work.” He grabbed his water bottle and took a swig. Reminding himself to keep hydrating. The Texas heat doesn’t work well with his Utah native self. The humidity gets to him. Vi, on cue as they turn from the street he used to live in, pulled out a cigarette. She always did whenever they were driving. “Roll the window down.” She asked to DJ. He nodded, and he knew what song she was going to play. It had been a while since they had driven together in the early morning. The last time was when they drove to Texas to move into the townhome his father bought them. That time, they were as close as two peas in a pod. Vi was a manager on his football team in high school. Well, more like an alcohol supplier and was forced to be there because of him and his father. They’d spent the whole fall season together. She would be with him during practice, at home, and riding with him to games and back. They grew close, but Vi’s addiction drove them apart. Her unwillingness to focus on college, and make a future for herself became apparent in the spring. They fought, they rarely spoke to each other, and now, he feels confident that they can grow back together. It was that easy.

So he smiled. They chatted about football, and school until the dreaded conversation that he wished wouldn’t come up did.

“How’s Sage?” That very well broke the ice. He’d remembered their last conversation, weeks ago. “She’s doing her thing.” He said, coldly. That was all he could think of. That’s what their relationship was at the moment. Cold. Very cold. “What’s that supposed to mean?” She asked.

“I don’t know, Vi.”

And he didn’t know. So he changed the topic.

“Dad’s been wanting you to get a car so that I won’t be late for practice anymore.” And that’s what he told him on the phone that morning, but he didn’t agree with that statement. He liked driving Vi around. “I’ll think about it.” And he was glad that she’d said that. But his peripherals caught her noteworthy sliver flask being drawn to her lips. Instantly, he knew that she was back to drinking in the morning. His thoughts were confirmed. His anxiety stirred. “Vi, not this morning, you have work.”

“Just a little- pick me up.”

She was back at it. He knew that as soon as the season started if she wasn’t distracted with managing and being at practice that she would go back to drinking. He wiped the concerned look from his face as she got out of the car and turned to him. “See you at 4?” she asked, and he answered. “See you at 4.”

As he headed to the dorm, his mind was swirling with worry about Vi. And, about Sage. He wondered what she was doing, so he shot the classic straight-guy text to her at 7 am.

“U up?”

The boxes rattled in his truck as he went over a bump into the apartment complex he and Levi chose to live in. They’d picked the place out because it was close to a gas station (beer), close to the field (football), and close to Greek row. Parties. It was the ultimate two-bedroom-nicer-than-shithole bachelor pad for Levi and Theo’s activities. It was mostly furnished when they got it, but because of Theo’s Dad’s money, the delivery guys with the rest of their furniture, beds, and a super rad ping pong/beer pong table would come in a few hours. So, he carried a couple of boxes in through the door and shouted-

“Anyone home?!” As he dropped them with a loud SLAM on the ground.

Blaire Warden

Familiarity breeds contempt

Blaire must’ve dozed off. Unfortunately, the dorm bed had been more comfortable than she had anticipated. Somehow she had ended up on her stomach with her phone in her hand as a singular tiktok kept playing on a loop. Slowly, the brunette sat up, groaning heavily as reality set in—where she was—Fucking school. Blaire ran a hand over her face, tiredly, while scooting to the edge of the bed.

Throwing her head back she began to stretch out her stiff neck from her impromptu nap. Then, she took the time to look at the empty other side of the dorm. She couldn’t help but feel a pang in her chest. That bed was supposed to be Quinn’s, they had planned to go to college together but, that was before Blaire started blacking out every night, and she let her grades slip down past the point of no return. Now, for whatever reason, they don’t talk. What had she done that was bad enough that it could make her own best friend hate her guts? Swallowing down the sick feeling rising in her stomach she tore her eyes away from the empty bed so as the doorknob rattled and a endless ball of energy bounced into the room. Blaire barely had time to register who they hell had just walked into the room before she was bounding over and pulling Blaire into a tight embrace.

“Oh hi! You must be Blaire, my parents told me so much about you!” The blonde bombshell barely gave her time to breathe before she was running off to the next topic. The girl reminded of her of Quinn but, really she saw Quinn in everybody. Blaire sat back, grabbing one of the pillows to wedge between her and the wall for comfort, to watch blondie unpack all her shit as she kept running her mouth a mile a minute. But, really Blaire didn’t mind. She found it quite amusing and the fact that she hated silence. The girl made her feel at ease.

”Do you think there will be any parties tonight?” Blaire sat up a little at the mention of a party, “usually the frat boys throw a party every year to kickoff the year. I wonder if they’re throwing one.” This prompted Blaire to slide to the edge of the bed again, eagerly. In her frustrations she had totally forgotten about the parties, the booze. A grin etched into her cheeks as she searched around in her brain for the girls name. Her parents had told her about her roommate but, as usual Blaire wasn’t really listening to them.

“After today, I need some booze stat.” Blaire slid off the bed entirely, grabbing her suitcase to find something to wear to this party.

“What about Pi Kappa Alpha? They always throw the biggest rager on move in day.” Blaire suggested, while rooting through her suitcase. She hadn’t bothered to put any of her stuff away yet because if she did it would’ve made the fact that she was stuck here, real.

“What are you going to wear? Let’s get fucking drunk.” Ultimately, Blaire landed on a tight black mini dress and some thick platform boots and threw them on, smudging some mascara and black eyeliner on her eyes, finishing off with some lip gloss. Then she sat on the bed to wait for her roommate to get ready.

“Come on! What are you waiting for.. let’s fucking go.” She urged her along.

Hana Glenn

knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom -Aristotle

Hana bounced on the balls of her feet, overly excited about finally being free from her family clutches, as she stood waiting for Maddox to return from the back of the shop. Even though Hana didn’t really like tattoos or piercings because the thought of a needling going inside her skin made her feel ill, she still loved Maddox ever since that day Maddox stood up for her when she couldn’t stand up for herself.

Hana could hear talking from the back but she couldn’t make out what they were saying. That, and she didn’t really want to pry. Nothing good ever came from spying on people’s private conversations. So, Hana made it a point to look at the shop walls where her favorite piece of art hung in the far wall, closet to the bottom. It was small but the colors were so vibrant that sprawling, pink purple and orange seascape stood out to her.

“I'm coming H. Sorry, I had to threaten them with knives.” Hana crossed her arms against her chest and shook her head.

“It sounds like you need a more reliable staff, Mads.” A soft laugh erupted from her lips as she turned toward her bestie who’s small, barely there, smile made her chest swell with emotion.

“Come on, don't we have a picnic with like the cute shit, you wanted to do?" Hana nodded her head eagerly. "Plus your first day of freedom H, we gotta go explore the town. It's only right."

Excitement bubbled up in her chest while a huge, goofy grin spread across her cheeks.

“Is it okay if we walk? The golf course isn’t far from here.” She asked, grabbing her car keys to stuff them in her back pocket before rushing to the door, eager to start walking. The heat was like a slap in the face as soon as she stepped foot out the door but she didn’t care. She was too excited to care about anything else other than the infamous picnic— a picnic her parents never let her go to.

Hana practically hightailed it towards the lush green of the golf course. It’s fields were brimming with men and women, dressed to the nines even though they were just supposed to playing golf and having fun. Suddenly Hana felt out of her depth but, she pushed through anyways and grabbed a glass from the perfectly set table.

“Do you want a drink, Mads?”

Maddox snorts softly at Hana. "They are reliable when I'm there. They just thought that maybe they could get one over on me. Thought I wouldn't watch the cameras. Which I did of course. " She told her as she watched the smile that she grew to love placed on her face. That large goofy smile that Maddox would do anything to protect. It is like Hana was able to give her the ability to feel something more than just numbness. All the outsiders were able to do that. And it was something that she needed and longed for. She loved them for that.

Not that she would ever tell them that.

Maddox hums, nodding to her question if it was okay that they walk. She didn't really mind walking, plus it would make Hana happy to walk so she honestly didn't care. She watched as Hana eagerly started to walk ahead of her. "H, I swear to everything, if you fall again!" She told her as she knew that her best friend was clumsy and didn't want her to fall yet again cause she was excited about something.

---

Once they had gotten there, she followed Hana to the picnic set up and looked to H who asked if she needed something to drink. "Water please H." She told her softly as she walks up besides her. Physical affection wasn't really her thing but she knew that Hana felt out of place, and Maddox was out of place. But for herself, she didn't really care about that but Hana did so she did what she does best. She took care of her by being her shield. "Ok what is fancy dancy picnic has to eat?" She asked trying to get Hana to laugh. "Fancy tiny sandwiches? Cause then I'll need like 5 of them. She told her softly.

Trying to get her to relax and have fun. TO laugh. Because as her shield, she would block out everyone for her. Like she always did.

    drew

As a dorky, skinny little kid, naturally, Leo got bullied a lot in his early years. He got picked on, shoved around, all that jazz—he was used to it. Eventually, he just kind of stopped caring. Sometimes his older brothers would help him out, and people who targeted him stopped out of fear of his more athletic brothers; sometimes they just got bored because the dork they were picking on stopped reacting to their insults. By the time high school came around, he just ignored whatever happened to him or brushed it off and continued on his way. He never took it to heart. Once he got to college, bullying just kind of stopped. He kept his head down, and people minded their own business. Most people seemed to have grown out of wanting to pick on people, focusing on their own lives instead of trying to put others down.

Being assaulted wasn't on Leo's checklist for move-in day, but here he was being shoved by his overgrown toddler of a roommate. He knew he should've kept his mouth shut and not asked questions about why Drew was living here, but he didn't think the question was shove-worthy. Leo put a hand on his bed to steady himself. His eyes widened a bit as Drew told him to hit him. Okay, this was officially terrifying. "... no?" He managed to reply, the statement coming out as a question. "I don't want to hit you, dude, I literally just want to unpack my stuff. I won't even talk to you or anything. I'll just mind my own business. No need for me to hit you. Or for you to hit me or whatever."

He hoped Drew wouldn't retaliate by shoving him again, or worse, but even if he did, Leo could handle being knocked around a little. He'd tolerated it before, and he could tolerate it again. He just didn't know if he'd be able to take a whole school year of this. Send out one of his brothers to whack Drew? No, Drew's ghost would probably just haunt him; he seemed stubborn like that. Concede and move out? No, this was the most affordable thing for him to do this year. Maybe his roommate would mellow out over the next few months. Besides, Leo could just avoid the room as much as possible; he wouldn't even have to interact with Drew much... he hoped.

  • brianna nodded. it was just like the beach for her — it's a nice place to visit every once in a while, but she'd definitely not wanna live there. it was the sense of complacency, or everything becoming so familiar to her that the sea, as well as the breeze that you got whenever you get near the beach, loses it's effect. willowbridge didn't have much, if anything at all, except this school and the various of chaotic people who attended. however, at certain points, she would admit that it does have a cozy feeling to it. without the endless nonsense and the varieties of people who attend, would it really be willowbridge? it'd lose it's 'charm', right?

    " that's fair. "
she wasn't really interested in the learning part, either, but she had made it this far. besides, college was never really an option for her in her family — it was literally required that all of them go get some sort of continued education, so she had to accept the fact that in order to get to fun things (certain games, holidays, birthdays, etc), there was going to be a little bit of learning involved. hearing the other speak about the placement of her classes, she nodded her head.
    " that's smart. "
it got her thinking of her own schedule for a second, because if she remembered correctly, she may not have classes every single day, either. it's not that she didn't care about her education, it's just that she wouldn't be able to handle the stress of it all if she did have classes every single day. you don't have to have class every single day to ace your education.

" i don't have classes everyday either. realized that doing that is just too much stress for me. "
she exclaimed, taking out her chargers from the bag. they were the chargers for her laptop and her phone. her airpods were resting in the nightstand drawer, thankfully out of sight from whoever came in here earlier.
" plan on joining in on whatever the school's having today? what is it, a cook-out, or something? "
she asked, looking up from her bag.

Gracie Miller

Loneliness is in the absence of connection, not company

The blonde was careful enough to not have her heels sink down in the grass as they continued to walk towards the patio. Half of her attention was focused on her feet instead of the gorgeous man beside her because she didn’t want to embarrass herself or seem weak—like she didn’t know what shoes to wear even if she really didn’t have a clue. She tried hard to make it seem like she belonged, even if she didn’t really get out of the house much.

“Gracie, huh?” Gracie’s heart quickened at the sound of her name falling off his lips, “I love that name.” She felt her cheeks warm as she tore he eyes away from him to look out towards the patio. Gracie had always had a hard time letting people see the true Gracie Miller but, the flutter in her chest felt real and it was utterly terrifying. There was a soft spark between the two of them and she couldn’t help but be excited about the possibility of the potential there for a budding relationship.

“My name? It’s Kendall.” Gracie repeated the name as if she were tasting it, “but most people call me the Kman.” She made a mental note of the nickname as he continued talking. The blonde was practically hanging off his every word. It wasn’t long before they had finally reached the grills and set down the bags filled with various foods. She couldn’t help but feel a little sad now that they had reached their destination. Maybe she could ask for his number? Just the thought of being open and vulnerable was enough to make her feel nauseous. But, luckily she didn’t even have to ask, Kendall beat her to the punch and even barbecue had never really been her thing, she wanted to spend more time with the mysterious Kman. So, she eagerly nodded her head in agreement.

“I would love to!” She cleared her throat, regaining her composure. “If you need any help just let me know.” She stood off to the side while Kendall fired up the grill, warming it up.

“So.. you said you’re a wandering soul? Where have you traveled?” She asked, leaving against one of the pillars that had been situated off to the side of him.

“What’s been your favorite place you’ve traveled to?” She questioned. Gracie always made it a point to be engaging in conversation and it helped that she really wanted to get to know Kendall.
