overview.
the time of avatar korra has long passed. many avatars have come and gone, but avatar korra had lead the world into an era of peace. the avatars that came after her simply helped keep the peace between the spirits and humans. however, there were always power hungry people and the portals to the spirit world had to be closed. the world re-adapted to life without the spirits and life continued on. society progressed to be the world we know now, the modern era.
there have been many breakthroughs with technology, science, everything. the biggest being genetic engineering. scientists dove head first into the genetics and science behind bending, which can be dangerous in the wrong hands. one scientist, by the name of rakkon, has been leading the world's discoveries on bending genetics. however, Rakkon is seeking something far more marvelous than knowledge...
avatar rivro of the southern water tribe, the avatar for the past eighty-seven years, has finally passed away. he was a good man. he was jolly, witty, and very good at his job. when he was old enough he moved into republic city, away from the southern water tribe and married an incredibly strong earth bender by the name of naven. there, rivro and naven lived a wonderful life. rivro was active in his duties as the avatar, while still being a wonderful father to his one single daughter. eventually his daughter grew up and had a child of her own, a little earth bending girl who she named riku. riku and her grandfather, avatar rivro were incredibly close. riku was fascinated by her grandfather's ability to bend all four elements and he taught her everything he knew about earthbending, that is everything he could before he passed. it was a long time coming but that didn't stop riku from being incredibly upset. in a fit of pain, riku let out a cry, and out of nowhere, her eyes began to glow as she was lifted into the air. her cry suddenly sounded like a mix of voices, the earth was trembling, water and fire surrounded her, and the wind wanted to knock down anything in its path. her parents rushed outside at the commotion and were terrrified. a quick call to the white lotus and they were there within the hour. after a bit of testing it was confirmed; riku was the next avatar
summary.
a grandchild avatar had never been heard of, especially when the avatar wasn't chosen at birth. a scandal broke loose that avatar rivro's family had gotten a hold of rakkon's genetic engineering and made riku an "artificial avatar". while some thought this was crazy, rakkon grew angry, for that was his true intention all along. he was seeking a way to create benders from non benders. he had even resorted to kidnapping benders off the streets to perform experiments on them, which felt like torture. of course no one knew it was rakkon doing so, only rumors of skillful benders going missing.
the white lotus had been keeping all of this secret from riku, but they knew that wouldn't last long. with riku becoming an adult, they knew she would need training, or else anyone would be able to get to her and she wouldn't be able to protect herself. the secret society, sworn to protecting the avatar, knew they had to find riku some trainers. that's exactly what they did.
they found her a master of each element...well, master is a stretch. they found four benders, around riku's age, word was that these four were very skilled; the white lotus figured it'd draw a lot more of unwanted attention to call in the top master of each element. so the white lotus settled for some individuals around riku's age, one for each element, one that was incredibly skilled in weaponry and another that was trained in hand to hand combat.
seeing how the white lotus were busy trying to calm the drama outside riku's doors, they couldn't keep an eye on her training, so they asked their newest and youngest member in the group to stay with her. they instructed them to stay with avatar riku at all times.
so what on earth happens when the avatar's teachers find out that she has no idea about the chaos going on outside her doors? what happens when these seven finally tell the most powerful person on the planet the injustice happening right outside? what happens when they sneak out of riku's residency to do what the avatar is meant to do? bring peace and balance to the world.

the earthbender

as wielders of the element of matter and substance, earthbenders are just as diverse and varied as the range of control their style allows. Uncompromising, hardy, and stubborn in next to all cases, earthbenders are nonetheless known for rarely lacking a sense of humor or enjoyment of helping others in need. earthbenders tend to pride themselves on being dependable, helpful and hardworking
the firebender

Being the element of power, Firebenders are dedicated, focused, and intent on achieving their goals, often at any cost; a passion to succeed that mirrors fire's all-consuming spread. firebender's hearts burn with desire and will, energizing their drive to achieve their goals. But as we'll see, the power of fire doesn't necessarily make the bad guy. It all depends on how the drive is used
the airbender

Airbenders are wielders of the element of freedom. the original airbenders detatched themselves from the material world and found peace. but as a whole, airbenders live in the world of possibilities, and can become very zealous and excited about things. Their enthusiasm lends them the ability to inspire and motivate others, more so than we see in other types. They can talk their way in or out of anything.
the waterbender

representing the element of change, waterbenders are able to adapt to any situation or environment. they have a deep sense of community and loyalty to their loved ones that can hold them together through anything. many tend to be calm and serene, but just like any element, there comes a duality. water can be both peaceful, but also deadly.
the swordsman

Contrary to popular belief, the swordsman is an integral part of every team. someone so skilled in combat and weaponry, it displays their dedication and patience. many turn their nose on a nonbender, but a clever swordsman will take that doubt and use it against their opponent. they have no choice but to be strategic, stealthy and creative in a world of benders.
the white lotus

as legend recalls, the white lotus is an ancient, secret society that dates back several thousand years. they transcend the boundaries of the four nations, and their original purpose was seeking truth, knowledge, and wisdom, and their mission was to spread it to the world. more recently? their most noble effort is to protect the avatar.

one.i want to state first and foremost that this is a safe place. any of my rps will always be LGBTQIA+ positive, including of POC, and intolerant of any hatred towards anyone. just be kind to one another (and me pls), if you have issues with someone, please keep it in private messages.
two.discord is a must! once we get a bit further into the makings of this rp, discord will be our main hub of plotting and communication, it'll be a fun time, promise!
three.this will be a realistic persons rp, so i'm expecting realistic faceclaims. if you're not used to using realistic faceclaims, don't worry! i have a good amount of resources to help find the perfect face for your character!
fourthere are limited roles, but this will not be a first come first serve situation. selections for these roles will be application based. meaning no one is promised a spot until completed CSes are posted and myself and the other gms have accepted the six other characters.
fivewhile i'm not going to put a minimum length for posts, i will say that i'm expecting this thread to be a semi-advanced to advanced level. so things like proper grammar, more than one word descriptors in cses and posts, simple stuff like that!
