He is honored in the streets of Ba Sing Se with prayer and festivity. As the kingdom mourns their loss, the rest of the world turns its attention to the Fire Nation. The home to the next Avatar in the cycle.
Three months later, the new Avatar is born.500BGA startling realization comes to light. Fire Sages, responsible for identifying the Avatar's incarnation, are called to Ma'inka Island. They are brought to a pair of twins. Shogo bends fire and air, Shoko earth and water. There is no doubt they share the spirit of the Avatar within them, but never before has there been two Avatars. The Fire Sages are in disbelief and uncertain of their next steps. Reluctantly, they reach out to the other nations and their respective elders.
In the end, it is decided Shogo is the true Avatar. Fire is the next element in the cycle and Shoko can not wield it. Since the Avatar is the master all four elements, it also agreed on that Shogo and Shoko must become one. Shogo is not yet powerful enough to consume his sister's spiritual energy and will undergo training for the next several years.490BGThe eighteenth birthday of Shogo and Shoko marks the day the twin Avatars will become one. Shogo has been training his spiritual power for the last decade in order to be capable of such a feat. Shoko, raised to submit to the true Avatar, has lived a fraction of the life her brother has.480BGThe world is shaken by the disappearance of Shoko, and of the realization that their Avatar may never be whole. The Order of the White Lotus is unsuccessful in their efforts to find Shoko in the ten years following her disappearance.
Shoko makes herself known again with an army of believers at her side. Men, women, and all others who took Shoko's story to heart. They see her as the true Avatar and curse Shogo for ever thinking he could consume his sister's spirit. Shoko makes it known she will not submit to the will of the White Lotus without a fight.

The element can either consume everything around it in a powerful blaze, or heat it with a brilliant intensity that is impossible to ignore. It is an energetic element, bright and mighty. Firebending is inspired by the real-world Northern Shaolin, associated with the Shaolin Monastery. These fighters use fast, athletic movements including jumps, spins, and extended linear stances, powered by breath. Firebenders can exhale fire, wield flames like daggers, and grow a singular flame into a raging bonfire.EARTHBENDERS1/3Earth is strong, stable, and constant. The element stands the test of time; it is a steady element, bold and unyielding. Earthbending is inspired by the real-world Hung Ga, known for solid stances and blunt punches, with fists formed into diverse shapes and toughened by striking exercises. Earthbenders can harness the formative energy of the earth, powerfully punch boulders, and ride platforms of stone to impossible heights.AIRBENDERS0/3Air is flexible, playful, but still powerful. The element goes where it wills and expands and contracts to meet its environment. Air is an open element, breeding freedom and bolstering spirits. Airbending is loosely based on the real-world Baguazhang. The martial artโs circular motions and footwork allows one person to defend against multiple enemies. Airbenders are quick and nimble using their skills to defend from and evade attacks. Airbenders can ride balls of spinning air, quell cyclones, and sweep even the heaviest objects into weightlessness.WATERBENDERS1/3Water is movement, change, and grace. The element cannot be broken and even in its most rigid forms has the ability to melt and reform. It is a dynamic element, subtle but powerful. Waterbending is inspired by the real-world martial art Tai Chi. This styleโs flowing motions allow a Waterbender to use their element defensively to redirect an opponentโs attack, or offensively in the form of water whips, ice attacks, or large waves. Certain Waterbenders can also redirect energy paths in the body to heal injuries.NONBENDERS0/3Weapons are precise, intimidating, and fierce. They demand craftsmanship to create and discipline to master. In the right hands, a weapon can level the playing field between a non-bender and a bender. Fighters trained in the use of weapons can come from any nation. Their first specialty likely comes from their home nation with a weapon and fighting style unique to their home region, but it can also include unarmed combat such as chi-blocking. Weapons in the Avatarverse take inspiration from real world Asian and Indigenous cultures, such as the Chinese dao (saber) and other traditional weapons.
- GuidelinesGuidelinesTo stand upon the shore and gaze after a boat that disappears behind distant islands.RULE01We will be using a Discord server for all plotting, updates, and communication. Out of character and in-character activity are both necessary. We will have a designated channel for any absence notices. The mods can only ensure that post deadlines do not conflict with absences if we receive proper notice. Deadlines missed without notice or a request in advanced for an extension will result in an interest check and potential removal from the roleplay.Rule02The roleplay will mostly consist of goal-oriented scenes. We are looking for roleplayers who are proactive with plotting and progressing the story through writing. Posts that are primarily reactive and characters with no connections to the rest of the cast will not work in the long run. Please do not pursue the roleplay if you do not feel comfortable reaching out to other roleplayers to plot and collaborate.Rule03Throughout the roleplay, we will be utilizing some mechanics that we hope will make things more fun and immersive. These mechanics include mission selection, skills and attributes, dice rolls, a points and reward system, and occasionally real-time combat scenes. That said, we will try and keep everything as simple as possible. Most of these mechanics are based on the Avatar TTRPG and are not as complex as 5e, so please don't feel that you need to know anything outside of the roleplay to partake in these mechanics.Rule04Subcategories of bending will be accepted. Some of these techniques were not technically invented until later in the timeline, but we feel that it is plausible to utilize them now. The exception to this is metalbending as there is not much processed metal at this point in time (steel ships, tanks, things of that nature). Processed metal will be used more so for weapons, armor, maybe cages or cell bars. We are open to metalbending raw metal, though. Just don't think of it quite like what you see with Toph or in Korra.
All characters will be 21+. This is a queer and BIPOC friendly space. Characters of all gender expressions, sexual orientations, etc. are welcome. Please respect the cultures that ATLA takes inspiration from and be mindful of this when creating your character/choosing a face claim. Natural hair colors only. We will not be accepting white/pale-faced Waterbenders. Avoid using face claims that have very obvious western/white/European influences and any easily recognizable anime or videogame characters. Feel free to take a look at a Pinterest board we have created for face claim options.
We are accepting three characters for fire, earth, air, and water, as well as three non-benders. There will be a list of roles with descriptions you can choose from. Not all roles will be utilized in the roleplay. These role descriptions provide you with a base to work with, so please feel free to get creative. Each role will come with additional information that is strictly between co-gms and the roleplayer to avoid metagaming. You will receive this information if your character is accepted for that role.Rule05Roles are not first come, first serve. There will be an application process to allow us to review your character before you proceed with a full CS. You can find more information for apps in the thread linked at the top of the coding. If your app is accepted, we will reach out and let you know that you may begin your CS. This is also when we will provide any private character information. There will be no doubling at this time.
