No, I don't have too many characters.

"Be home by dark." A phrase uttered by millions of parents around the world.
"Be home by dark or else the shadow people will get you." A phrase uttered by the parents in the cozy town of Hafmey Cove.
introduction.
Screams tore through the air, but no one was listening. Help was begged for, but no one came.
Sabrina Herman was walking home from Hafmey Cove's annual festival when she mysteriously went missing -- except that the mysteriously part? Doesn't make much sense when there was a witness. And not just a witness that thought she might've seen something, but a witness that swears they were holding her hand as she was dragged backwards into a river by a creature that...
And that's where things get mysterious. Because the creature described doesn't sound human -- and it doesn't help that the witness was proven to be drunk once police arrived on the scene.
It's now March, and police are nowhere closer to figuring out who did it. Was it the best friend, who swears to have held her hand as she died? Or perhaps Sabrina's older brother, since reports show that they never got along? Maybe her ex, who someone claims they'd seen Sabrina with just a week before the date? Or how about her current significant other, perhaps driven to murder by angry jealousy?
But every suspect that was brought to the table was turned away. Eventually, the city started to relax following this, except those who were closest to Sabrina. The ones that still demand there be some kind of answer. Someone to pay for what was done to her.
The only thing that really came out of it was that this mysterious death happened to sound very familiar to a series of deaths that had happened a few years prior. Of course, police had thought they'd locked up the correct suspect, but... well, with this person behind bars, how did Sabrina die? So, kind of under the table, out of the public's eye... the person was released on basis of not enough information.
the setting.
Hafmey Cove could best be described as a dying town. Once a fairly popular tourist destination located on the ocean, well... it turns out that several unsolved murders kind of really kills the vibe and doesn't really make people want to come visit you. Who knew?
Most of the current residents are simply people that were born and raised here -- and thanks to the town being fairly small as the population dwindles, pretty much everyone knows everyone. Perhaps not a first name basis, but everyone knows the gist of everyone else. Or, at the very least, the gist of their family. In a place like Hafmey Cove? Well, it's really hard to have any secrets.
The biggest event in the little town is the yearly For Hafmey Festival, which is pretty much just viewed as a little thing to celebrate the town. Over the years, the festival has changed as times have changed, but it's still done at the same time every year.
And, of course, this festival occurred on the same night that Sabrina Herman's death did.
best friend (taken)
Sabrinaβs best friend since childhood. She was present during Sabrinaβs attack and disappearance. Since she was the last one to see Sabrina, she is a suspect.
older brother (taken)
Sabrinaβs older brother. Manager and bartender at The Rowdy Stone, Hafmey Coveβs only bar. Theyβve never really gotten along, and thereforeβ¦ you guessed it, suspect.
Conspiracy Theorist (open)
The school janitor⦠who just so happens to have an idea of what happened to Sabrina. No one seems to believe them, though.
ex-lover (open)
Sabrinaβs ex and one of the prime suspects in her disappearance. Retains their innocence.
current lover (open)
Sabrinaβs current flame. Currently dedicating their life to figuring out what happened to her.
ex-con (open)
Convicted in for the mysterious disappearances of multiple people a couple of years ago. Sabrinaβs disappearance has proven to be enough to get their case reviewed and thrown out. Now that theyβre out of prison, theyβve made it their mission to figure out what really killed those people and took away three years of their life.
rookie cop (open)
Fresh out of the academy, their first case is Sabrinaβsβ¦ and theyβre maybe a little too enthusiastic about it.
reporter (open)
A reporter at the local newspaper, theyβve been following these disappearances since they first happenedβ and theyβre gonna get the scoop, no matter what it takes.
rule one.
Literacy. I ask for a minimum of 2-3 paragraphs that are at least four-five lines each. Obviously if you can't reach this every time, that's perfectly okay -- it happens, and we all have bad muse, or it's just the kind of interaction that does better with shorter, more rapid-fire responses. That's fine. However, I do ask for this as a general minimum.
rule two.
No mary-sues, no gary-stus, none of those perfect characters. I want characters that make mistakes. I want characters that feel as if they could hop off the page and walk through my front door. Kind of. You get what I mean. Realism.
rule three.
Characters are going to be young adults-ish with around 18-23. Sabrina would've been 19 but died at around 18. Also on the topic of characters, if we have more interest than there are roles, we might make more. Side characters are also allowed if you wish to have more than one, but everyone should have one main character.
rule four.
Keep your OOC drama to a minimum. Or better yet, non-existent. If you're uncomfortable with someone or have any kind of issues, please feel free to DM myself or Izzy with any concerns.
rule five.
We will be using a Discord server for OOC. If you're interested, please just post below, and I'll make sure to send you a link to said server. Hope to see you there!
