"With little time left, he makes the throw!"
"Comin' outta left field, Shen's goin' for it!"
"He's got it, he's got it!"

As the spiraling football made its arcing descent toward Jin, he grasped it in his hands and held it tightly to his chest. He slowed his sprint to a stop then turned to look at his friends in the distance. They whooped and hollered with exaggerated joy. Jin rolled his eyes but smiled nonetheless. There was no big game, no stadium lights or white stripes on the grass; just a few boys in the boarding school's courtyard on a Sunday afternoon.

Just as Jin pulled his arm back in attempt for a good throw, he heard someone grunting behind him, followed by a dragging noise across cement. He curiously glanced over his shoulder and saw a thin boy struggling to carry his backpack, duffle bag, and suitcase all at once. The sight was almost cartoonish. Jin chuckled a little bit, but stopped after he noticed the look of utter exasperation written on the boy's face as he continued to make baby steps toward the dormitories.

"Yo! What's the hold up?" one of his friends shouted.
"You guys play without me for a bit; I'll be right back!" Jin threw the football back to the group. He approached the thin male and asked, "Need any help with that? You look like you could use a hand."

As the scarlet minivan drove to a halt, Mae let out a soft sigh, "Do you think I'm doing the right thing, nainai?". Feeling a warm hand rest on her clothed thigh her gaze shifted to the elder woman that was behind the wheel who just smiled at her young granddaughter. The woman closed her eye briefly before speaking, "You only have to answer that child, it is what you feel in here - " her wrinkled palm went from Mae's thigh to her chest, " - that counts. If it feels right, then it is. Now go, my blossom. Know that I am just a call away if something was to happen."

Grandmother Nakamura's fingers traced through Mae's freshly cut hair and against her jawline as she placed a soft kiss on her niece's cheek before she departed from the car. Mae-Lin turned around and waved her grandmother good-bye as she drove off.

Looking straight at her new life, Mae gave yet another soft sigh at the metal gates of her new school. Her new 'all male' boarding school. She figured that a place like this would be the last place where her possessive parents would look for her. She was still quite unsure if she wanted to actually proceed with this plan but she had come so far to back out now. Besides, she always trusted her heart and her heart was steering her towards the gates. Straightening herself a bit, Mae felt a bit of discomfort from wearing her chest binder as it made it a bit hard for her to breathe. She had to hide her feminine aesthetics as best she could and that meant most of her time in chest binders, baggy clothing, caps and make-up to enhance some of her lack there of male facial features. Mae gathered the little hair she had from a scruffy bob to a very tiny ponytail with a few strands crawling their way back to the front of her face before venturing in.

Mae, now with her new identity as Michael Chen, started to motion his way towards the administration block so that he can be assigned his new dorm and get all the information he needed regarding classes, so on so forth. Approaching the information desk, Mike provided any documentation that was signed and approved by his legal guardian which was in this case his grandmother and everything went smoothly. Sweat was forming on his forehead, either as a result of nervousness or simply the heat from all the clothing he was wearing. That combined with the constriction around his torso was not helping his state of consciousness. Upon getting his dorm assortments and time-tables, Mike made his way out from the administration block towards the indicated dorm building.

Now that was going to be a fun situation. Dorms. At that point, Mike could not wait to lock himself in the bathroom and just remove everything and simply breathe.

Feeling the chest binder getting ever so tighter, Mike struggled to haul his own luggage and backpack as he heard the noises of the other boys in the fields playing. Sweat trickled down his face as he slowly made his way across, rolling his luggage behind him. However what was the most struggling was his duffle bag on his shoulder as it was the heaviest and applying the most pressure. Just as he felt as he was going to collapse anytime soon, Mike heard a faint voice approaching him before his brown eyes looked at the male that approached. A guardian angel to his salvation. Mike did not speak however, he simply nodded at the stranger's offer to help. He could use a hand or two was just quite obvious right there. Signalling towards his shoulder, Mike slowly dropped his duffle on the ground with a weak thank you smile.

The offer was met with a nod, then a tired but grateful smile as the duffle bag was slowly dropped to the ground. Jin picked it up with ease and put the strap on his shoulder. This is nothing. He must be really outta shape. Now standing next to him, he could see a few beads of sweat that formed on his brow and the strain that still tightened his face while he trudged forward. Perhaps out of frustration and pity, Jin was a little inclined to take the weight of his suitcase too, just so he wouldn't have to watch the guy struggle. He decided against it.

"It's been a while since we got a new guy here. Where are ya from?" Jin asked.
"Uh... Phoenix, Arizona." The male's voice was slightly cracked, but it seemed to be due from his labored breathing. "You from here?"
"Kinda. I was born in Austin, so I'm a few hours away from home. I'm Jin, by the way." He opened his palm to him.
"Not as far as I am to say the least. Mike, pleasure to meet you, Jin, really..."
Not thinking much of it, he replied, "Likewise." They shook hands.
As they went inside the dorm building, Mike looked down at the piece of paper in his hand, then upward at the signs directing to the numbered rooms. The dorms were hardly labyrinthine—or quiet for that matter—so he followed after Mike and trusted that he'd keep checking the placards for reference.

There were other boys dawdling in the halls. Some of them were occupied by their devices or engaged in a conversation with others. Those who glanced their way recognized Jin, waved, then briefly greeted him. He addressed them by name, although he didn't stay behind to talk. After a while, Mike stopped in front of a door. Like the rest of them, it had a dry-erase board magnetized underneath the room's number. The name "Jin" had been printed in his own handwriting from the previous year, rewritten over the faded letters.

"This is the one? Well, isn't that a coincidence," he said casually, "looks like we're gonna be roommates." Jin unlocked the door and opened it.
"Look out, look out!!" someone shouted from their left.
A redheaded male he knew as Peter was barreling down the hall, lying on his stomach on top of a skateboard. Jin grabbed Mike's arm and pulled him aside, just in time to be spared from collusion. Peter kept his speed and was heading straight toward a room at the end of the corridor. Within it, Jin spotted Sergio sitting in a chair with a smug look on his face. He swung the door closed.
"NO, NO, NO, N—" Clunk!

Peter crashed into the door. All who witnessed the whole thing howled with laughter, including Jin. A cacophony of guffaws, snickers, and cackles filled the halls followed by curious heads poking out from different rooms. Peter groaned and rolled over on his side, but still managed to chuckle and flip Sergio off when the door creaked open to reveal him. Jin was not able to fully catch his breath before speaking, so his words were wedged between the sound of his laughter.

"Welcome to...Granite Hills...Academy for Boys, Mike!"

Right now, the male that introduced himself as Jin was like a guardian angel sent from the heavens. She was not quite sure how these young males were going to be so much help especially since ‘he’ was actually a she. Mae knew that she was going to be picked on for her feminine features. That being said, her bob hair was in her hat with a lock of hair in front of her face.

Normally she would have picked the duffel bag but the pressure that the chest binder that she was wearing to supress her breasts has been on for too long which was affecting her rather bad. However, the male’s attempt to get to know Mike was distracting her from the pain. In fact, her breathing stabled a bit as she introduced her alternative identity. She never imagined she would actually hide from her parents in an all-boys academy.

As the conversation seemed to have took a halt when Mike stopped in front of a door that had the same numbers as the one on his documents. Jin took the hint seemed like it as he asked if this was it to which Mike nodded, “This is my stop.”

Jin proceeded however and with a surprised look as to what he said next, Mae sighed and smiled, “Quite the coincidence indeed!” She hoped she would not have to deal with a roommate, especially because it just made keeping her identity as a boy, much harder than it already is. She felt like a minnow in a sea of sharks.

However, as the male opened the door to their dorm, Mae heard ‘LOOK OUT!’ halfway before being jerked to a safe distance on the side by Jin. Her heart skipped not one but two beats that instance. Oh my god… that was close. She saw a ginger slide down the halls towards another room before a tan male flipped him off shutting the door, resulting in the poor ginger to collide with the door causing Mae to gasp and cover her mouth with her hand.

“Is he okay?! Should we go check on him?” Mike was genuinely concerned now.
