THE PLOT:

In the year 2000 -- Nuclear war between major countries left the world and all who once lived in it completely broken. Most of civilization perished in the radiation or initial blasts. But thanks to a United Nations Operation called The Neighborhood, mankind still has hope for survival.

Unlike what many might have believed, most of those picked to be a part of the original 10 for this underground neighborhood in different parts of the world were strategically picked and some were drawn through a lottery. After the world fell to shreds, the 10 were put into a cryogenic sleep underground for 150 years. 6 months ago, you awoke in a dark underground bunker, with only an emergency light flashing. Confusion, claustrophobia, and overall feelings of being overwhelmed were the first things that most remember but with the unique skills of the 10...you all rose to the occasion and started to figure out how to survive underground with the resources that were left for you.

The year is now 2150 and the timer on the underground bunker is counting down closer to its last days, ready to unlock and allow you to return to the surface to search for other signs of life. Will the Neighborhood survive all the dangers in the new world together like they've survived the challenges of living underground together? Or will they be unprepared to face the challenges above and perish one by one?

THE ROLES:

1. The Unwilling Leader - Taken by Me
The first to wake up from their cryogenic slumber, this person was looked to as the leader of the pack even though they were just as lost as the rest. Unwillingly, they took on the role after it was clear no one else would. Despite not enjoying the role, they enjoy helping others and seeing the work they put in collectively as a group to survive.
2. The Eager Second - OPEN
This appointed second in command takes their job very seriously. Annoyingly so, as The Unwilling Leader would put it. But they get the job done, and they do it with spotless effort. At times, it almost feels like the second is stepping on the toes of the leader, and among the group, there is a noticeable tension between the second and the leader that may be some sort of power struggle...but as long as they survive why look deeper into it?
3. The Health Nut - TAKEN
A former doctor, this person is responsible for the health of the entire Neighborhood. When one person gets sick, they are responsible for making sure that they are quarantined and taken care of. They are knowledgeable about everything you may want to know about your health and things you may never want to know...but hey, an apple a day won't keep this doctor away in these close of quarters.
4. The Science Guy - TAKEN
Kinda like Bill Nye, but a lot less quirky. This person is responsible for making sure it's safe to return to the surface. They also have been helpful in creating an underground community garden that thrives without sunlight or a whole lot of water. Also been experimenting with meat substitutes that could actually taste like meat. Science rules.
5. The Questionable Guns Guy - TAKEN
Ex-Military. Got a few screws loose but overall, trusted with a gun and any weapon you put in his hands. He's the security for the Neighborhood. Not that anyone would be able to get in anyway but...you never know. He's just your friendly Questionable, Neighborhood Guns Guy.
6. The Lucky Lotto Winner #1 - TAKEN
Ahh the Lucky Lotto Winner, their talents have yet to be revealed. Since they weren't hand-picked by the government and actually won in a drawing, their worth is...questionable. Not that anyone would say that to their face. Yet. They are still eager to help, lending a hand wherever needed.
7. The Lucky Lotto Winner #2 - OPEN
Ahh the Lucky Lotto Winner, their talents have yet to be revealed. Since they weren't hand-picked by the government and actually won in a drawing, their worth is...questionable. Not that anyone would say that to their face. Yet. They are still eager to help, lending a hand wherever needed.
8. The Loose Cannon - TAKEN

The effects of cryogenic sleep are still being tested and figured out but...some were affected more than others. That can be said for this person right here. It isn't known if this person was a loose cannon before they were put into a deep sleep...but they are definitely one now. They worked as an architect before the war and now...all they are building is tension and trouble.
9. The Moochers #1 - TAKEN
These are two people who...claim to have special skills that should be helpful in the Neighborhood. But as time has gone on...they have yet to be seen. Unlike the Lotto winners, who know they might have nothing to offer and their days could be numbered if they don't contribute...these two don't lift a finger unless it's in front of the Leader or the Second. Keeping the ruse up that perhaps they too were picked by the government instead of maybe paying their way to be here. But what happens when the secret comes out? (They can be related or unrelated)

As nightfall encroached upon the blazing sky, Tana peered over the hills into the distance. The Lilith Desert was unlike the sandy plains she had grown up with in Cairo. And it was eerily silent— barely any wind whipping through the fields— except for distant whispers that seeped from the sand, like indistinct prophecies that fell on deaf ears. In her trout gray, tattered shawl and head scarf, she kneeled, bowing her head to look downwards. Digging into the dirt and letting the soil softly trickle from her fingers, the sand was pearly white, as if a beach had been stripped of its seas. And as she watched the sand fall back into the Earth, she felt her jaw clench in dismay. Her heart ached knowing that she’d never be able to go back home. Too much time had passed, and the world as she saw it was only a remnant of the life she had once lived.

When Tana stood, her bruised knuckles and shaking knees proved her to be far too exhausted, having scavenged for supplies all day in the scorching heat. What’s more, she had failed in her search for food and water, merely because of unlucky encounters with empty shelves and cabinets. Rusted, iron pods could be found every mile or so in the desert, and by the looks of it, they used to be quarantined homes, appearing to be bunkers that were militant in nature. Nearly every pod looked untouched on the inside, but the exteriors told a story of surviving destruction and warfare. They had no windows whatsoever. These pods jutted out of the ground and traveled deep into the earth.

Tana’s thick eyebrows furrowed, realizing the turmoil that must have taken place during the direct aftermath of the Wreckoning. The fear in the air as people scrambled to flee to bomb shelters, grasping at straws as the final comet struck the Earth.

Tana remembered the first day of the Wreckoning. It was clear in her mind’s eye. The announcement of the Wreckoning was all over the news, on every television, in every language, pleading for people to run to a safe place to hide from an incoming comet, doomed to destroy humankind itself. Safety precautions were readily advised, directing citizens all over the world to take cover and ration decomposable supplies. Unfortunately, government-constructed bomb shelters had maximum capacities unprepared for the event, which placed communities into life and death debates that pitted community members– childhood friends, family members, colleagues, and lifelong friends– against each other. Parents argued over whose child deserved to survive, right in earshot of their children, readily tearing apart the worth of lives, desperately clawing to prove their child’s right of existence. The poor and uneducated were automatically denied the right of access into these bunkers, believed to be useless in the new era of the world. It made way for the affluent, scholarly, and professionally trained to survive, perceiving themselves as winners. Those who were stuck in the middle of the economic spectrum trampled, pushed, begged, and killed for the remaining spots in these bomb shelters. Bloodied, wrecked streets could be seen around the globe. Hell had broken loose.
