Futuristic Welcome To The Afterlife [Here's A Gun]

Bang Bang

what can I say except

WELCOME TO THE AFTERLIFE
In case you haven't pegged it yet, you're dead.

Take a moment, shake it off, then get up and grab yourself a gun. There's only one thing to do here:

Hunting Angels.

Or 'Angels', I guess. What we call them anyway. Winged fuckers that live above ground, fast and strong as lightning, deadly prone to clawing your eyes out. Don't worry about it - sure it hurts, but if you die, you'll just wake up here, tucked nice and warm back up in bed, snug as a bug in a rug. Cute, huh?

Now get in, loser.
We're going hunting.

Note:
◉ Beyond the inclusion of 'Angels' and an afterlife, this RP shall be tied to no existing religion or mythos.
◉ A mix of fantasy (in that angels are a 'thing') and a futuristic military base setting, with sci-fi tech on hand if you can figure out how to get it working
◉ If you are interested, please note so below.

The Premise

You and the rest of the players are dead. That much you're certain of. The rest? No one really knows.

Here is what you do know:
◉ When you awaken in what is termed 'The Afterlife' you possess no memories of your past life.
◉ It has been discovered that the only way to regain memories is to kill angels. Upon causing the death of an angel, people experience violent visions and relive past experiences, one isolated incident at a time.
◉ Afterlifers (term for you, the undead)come from around the Earth Year 2320.
◉ Eking out a decent quality of life is tough in The Afterlife. For starters, you're forced to dwell underground. The one thing this place provides for you through its strange and nebulous magic? Firearms. Weapons. Whatever your muscle memory has the best skill with, it will be there - it'll just take a little trial and error to find out what your body is used to, if anything.

Some of you may be freshly awakened. Some may be old hands at this, with plenty of angelic notches on your belt.

The one thing that scares you all?

So far, no one's been able to leave.

Need to Know
main rp | characters | ooc

Base of Operations

◉ A mile underground, HQ has so far proven a safehaven from Angel swarms. To the North, what looks like a mineshaft elevator provides access to the surface.
◉ Beneath ground, HQ is a rabbit warren of industrial hallways and tech systems dating around 2313 CE in Earth's History. It is all in severe disrepair, however, and most days, hot water, electricity, and ventilation is temperamental at best.
◉ Beyond the construct hallways, tunnels dig deep through the earth, happening upon natural shafts and clearings that allow in sunlight, magnified using a complex system of mirrors. Out back through the Southern Cavern surface exit, a dilapidated Greenhouse system is in use.

Features:
Construct - CCTV Room (camera above and below ground), Armoury, Shooting Range, Sparring Room, Rec Centre, Cafeteria, Kitchens, Showers and Restrooms, Maintenance Shafts, Afterlifers' Chambers
Tunnels - Hot Spring Cavern, Farm Cavern, Afterlifers' Chambers, Enormous Chamber used for Sports and Recreation, Greenhouse

The Angels

More monstrous than angelic, Angels are dubbed thus for their fluffy white wings.

They vary in form wildly, embodying ideas and concepts from multiple Earth religions and more, some divinely beautiful, others horrifically ugly and terrifying.

Constants across all angels:
◉ Though the extent varies, they are all inhumanely fast, strong, and have rapid reflexes. Engaging one in hand to hand combat is suicide.
◉ Some will actively hunt out humans, but most will only engage in combat once they have caught sight of you. All angels appear to be relatively short sighted, and have poor hearing.
◉ Angels are unable to communicate with Afterlifers. All noises they make sounds like a high-pitched, high-frequency, almost digital shriek.
◉ Most angels have wings (though the number varies) and all possess elongated, razor sharp claws.

Some possess seemingly supernatural abilities.

For all of them, it is best to kill them on sight. No one is quite sure what the consequences of dying are, other than that it hurts let hell (excuse the pun). Some believe it damages your soul. Some that you lose memories with it. Some think it's just a show of how pointless this whole thing is.

The To Do List

So what can you do now that you're dead and seemingly stuck here for all eternity? Good question. One which only you can answer.

You still feel hunger. Though you cannot starve into non-existence, you still feel all the affects of cold, thirst, etc. With the HQ in such a miserable state, Homesteaders focus on keeping things back at the base going. Pacifists believe that taking shelter and studying the Angels from afar, learning about the world around you is the key to escape. Militants want the Pacifists to die permanently and are determined to reclaim their lost memories and get out of this pit. Scouts run errands for either one/both factions, gathering intel on angels and the surrounding land. Rogues spend less time at the HQ, more time off being... well, rogue.

And some one should really fix this place up, especially the hot water. Plus, you reckon all these computers have any good computer games on them?

Or perhaps you'll take on another role. The choice is yours.

Notes to Players:
◉ Your choices in what roles you take will effect the circumstances, pacing, and outcome of this roleplay. If you neglect farming entirely, you will all be starving. If you skimp on security, enjoy the Angel swarm invading to come claw your eyes out. Everyone goes off to scout and rogue alone? Good luck solving this place on your own. Not to mention good luck surviving.
◉ All roles will fall in and out of being the 'centre' of the roleplay, but all roles will have ample GM and Lore interaction. Different routes will turn up different information, clues, and progression.

Current Law and Order

Currently, the Militant Faction is in control. An individual known as Thomas Smith acts as the HQ's elected leader and stages regular scouting and hunting missions, whilst also helping to organise others in managing the base.
A group of self-appointed vigilantes enforce the Militant Faction's rule, not loyal to Thomas himself, but to the cause.
This group is known as Devil's Watch and is comprised of heavily armed, well-trained individuals.

DO NOT LET THE ANGELS GET YOU.

(it hurts.)

Nervous?

Any concerns at all, or if you're feeling on the fence, shoot Bang Bang Bang Bang a PM and they'll work it through as best as they are able to help you feel comfortable and shape the roleplay to your requirements.

This looks fantastic, and that bbcode is godlike.

I'm exceptionally interested

Fab - Once we get some character sheets in and accepted a few folks, we can see about getting things rolling. Any idea what kind of role/character(s) you're feeling like playing?

The lore is good. Kind of reminds me of Angel Beats (which is a compliment that anime was great). I think I'll make a character.

That anime made me cry. I can only hope to rival that level of emotional gut-pucnhing. And fantastic, I look forward to seeing what you cook up :)
