Waterdeep Dragon Heist

"Please come out into the main room no need for us to be crowded in a corner. I apologize for my ignorance, but are they trying to take you for ransom of sorts? Do you know if the dark leather men took Floon or was it the other group that attacked you?" Hokk smiled awkwardly as he spoke trying to form a good impression. You never know when you'll need a friend in a high place.

Warehouse:

With the sudden voice in his ear, Renaer jumped, replying, "Er -- no, thank you?" He scratched his head as he moved out into the main room, staring at the tied up kenku with a dark expression. "I expect at some point I would have been used for a ransom, once they realized finally Floon was not me." He pointed at the dark leather wearing figures, "Those men grabbed us from the streets -- only to get attacked in turn by another group. The Zhentarim thinks that my father embezzled a large amount of gold while he was Open Lord, and that he hid the dragons somewhere in the city. They think they can find it by using an artifact called the Stone of Golorr, which was in the hands of the Xanathar Guild until recently. Apparently, someone stole it. The Zhents thought I knew something about all of this, but I don't. My father and I haven't spoken in years."

Moving through the room he reached for one of the rapiers and daggers, "I overheard them trying to interrogate Floon about it -- they didn't believe him when he tried to say he wasn't me, and they kept me gagged since they assumed I was the escort."

"It appears someone is here. I can carry the Noble if they're hostile. We may need to prepare for a fighting retreat. Ready to go, all?"

"Well, I think I've had enough fun here." Garret handles his new rapier, feeling it for balance and weight. "We still need Floon, and the great noble here isn't much help." He glances at Renaer and rolls his eyes a bit. "Up? Or Down? Anyone want to flip a coin?"

Hokk puts away his weapon peering out the slimy window seeing the green and gold of the city watch. "Looks to be the watch, we wouldn't need to be worried by anything would we? I believe we were in the right saving Renear. Plus from what I've heard, running or fighting would end up poorly for us should we not somehow escape."

Fosco joins the conversation eagerly. "Yea, I'd rather not be seen in any...incriminating circumstances. I've 'ad some scrapes with the law in my time, though not 'ere in Waterdeep. Dunno if they'll recognize me. Regardless I'd prefer they see me innocent over find me hiding." He gives a pitying look at Renaer. "And take a shower when ya can. Ya smell like a calcium deficient ankheg."

"Sounds good, put away your weapons," Hokk waits for everyone to clean off and put their items away. While doing so he finds a lot lantern and approaches the warehouse door they entered.

Opening it, he looks out to the guards that arrived, "Good evening, I believe we found something you may be interested in. We stumbled upon some alley blades, as I believe you call them, who were holding Renaer Neverember. We captured a couple and have him safe in here."

As Garret puts his bow away he sighs. Getting the law involved will just make this take longer. At least we mostly seem in the right here. He shruggs and smiles, turning towards the door and the guards with his best innocent face on.

Warehouse:

As the group arranges themselves, Ranaer nodded to Werner, "Of course, I'll speak on your behalf."

The Watch began to filter into the building properly -- a dozen hardened looking members led by one who appears to be the leader, a human male. A few of the men group up by the kenku, keeping an eye on them before switching their bindings from rope to manacles proper, a few others move to the upstairs area still with weapons drawn as they check room by room. The leader steps towards the group, raising an eyebrow at seeing Neverember in such a ragged place and amongst such a varied group. "My name is Captain Staget of the Dock Ward's City Watch, a ... strange pleasure to see you again, Lord Neverember." His gaze turns to the party, "So who wishes to explain to me, without hyperbole or exaggerations, what happened here?"

Sera takes the lead in the conversation. "Well to sum it up quickly, we were sent to look for a missing person by a concerned friend and we followed all the clues in here, where we found these Kenku. They drew weapons so they didn't leave us much of a chance. Most of these corpses however were each others' doing since they belong to different... organisations. The cause for them to murder each other this time was valuable prisoners: the lordling here and our missing person, a certain Floon. Due to some mashup, they mistook their two prisoners and took the other guy with themselves further away instead of Neverember." She finally takes a breath, adressing a last question to Ranaer and her newfound friends. "Did I leave anything out?"

"Would we be able to look around as well for any clues to where our friend may be? We only got to look around here before ya showed up." Hokk smiles trying to look as innocent as he can.

Fosco puts his hood up and carefully avoids engagement with the watch. He stands just close enough to look like he's with the party, but far enough away that he clearly doesn't act as a leader.

Garret leans up against a wall and folds his arms, content to let the others handle the explanations. If the Watch finds Floon here, I wonder if we still get paid? Of course, worst case, ten dragons for a bit of scrapping ain't a bad deal. He chuckles to himself and starts quietly whistling a merry shanty.

Warehouse:

Captain Staget listened as Sera spoke, glancing a few times at Renaer as well as other officers. Some of them checked over the dead bodies calling out, "Xanathar here, sir!" or "Zhentarim over here, Captain!" Crossing his arms the Captain sighed, "Ah ... so old fashioned gang violence here at least."

Renaer stepped forward, "This group, even though not intending to rescue me, did at least help remove the remaining threat and helped clean me up and get sorted. I believe them when they say they're attempting to find Floon -- if they were members of either of the groups, they could have very easily taken me captive I expect."

Behind the Captain the Kenku were being loaded up along with the dead bodies to the wagon. One of the kenku cried out in a thin nasally voice from before, "Follow the yellow signs in the sewers." The voice shifted to another young man, "Be kind, please?" The kenku that had been knocked out still seemed to be in too much of a state to say anything while the guards shoved the pair towards the wagons, cries of "Not another word!" following the captives. A few guards also emerge from the backroom, carrying a crate and a few paintings, calling out, "Found some stolen goods, sir!" and receiving a nod in reply from Staget.

Finally he turned his attention back to the group, "Allow me to give you lot some free advice: best not to meddle in criminal matters. Leave this dirty business to the City Watch, not all City Watch officers are as nice as me, and keep the blood off the streets, okay?" Pacing in front of them he added, "I don't suggest you keep after this, and Lord Neverember I very much don't suggest you dirty your boots in such affairs. It would be unbecoming for a Lord, and many rely on you to be on the streets, aiding them." He nodded at a callout from behind him -- the wagons were ready. "It seems you have done the Watch a favor today, and it will not be forgotten -- however do not expect that to mean a free pass."

"Yes sir yes!" Says Sera with the slightest hint of irony in her voice. "We'll try and behave ourselves if we can help it" She adds with a chuckle.

Warehouse:

Shaking his head, Captain Staget answered: "Citizens should not be in such a place, even if it's for a noble task. We need to sweep the building and make sure no one else is hiding. You're free to leave, however I would not suggest leaving Waterdeep should we need to ask further questions of any of you."

The party exits the building in no rush, but does not go on their way...instead, after a few minutes of looking, they find a sewer entrance as the kenku mentioned. It has yellow markings on it. A promising sign.

"If no one 'ere has any 'bjections, I'll 'ead in first. Ah may not be tough but I can stay in the shadows."

"Would you object if I went with you?" Says Sera with a cheerful smile. "You learn to hide pretty well if you have no choice but to avoid the rougher folks on the streets..." She adds, the smallest hint of sadness creeping into her voice before putting back on her happy face.

Garret approaches the found sewer grate. "I've been known to have a light step myself." He peers down into the sewer. "But I'm in no hurry to do anything down...there. You want company or..." He rolls his eyes and shrugs. "Aw hell with it, let's just find this guy. I'll be behind you."

Sewers:

As a few members of the group disappear into the tunnels, following the yellow marks, they get further and further from the entrance they came down ... the few bits of light keeping Garret from really being able to follow the others too easily. Five minutes ... ten ... fifteen ... and yet the marks seem to keep going.

Hmm, sewers are dark. Who'd have known? "Guys, this path seems to go on for a bit, perhaps we should get the group. If you guys want to keep scouting, I can go back alone." He reaches into his backpack and pulls out a torch. "Also," he says, lighting the torch, "I can't see well enough to be useful anyway."

"All right, we might be better off if you head back and catch the others. I think we can scout onwards a bit, what do you think Fosco?" As Sera says this, she summons a mote of light on the ground. "This is the spot where we parted, you'll know you're on the right track if you see it." she adds with a smile.

A halfling head pops up from the sewer where it had disappeared shortly before, glancing between the party members who stayed topside. "Looks like this is going to be quite the trek, fellas. I came back to grab you all, hop on in." Garret gets one last big breath of fresh air before ducking back into the hole.

"Yes, let's go on. Better to just see what's there before them boys come up behind us and start a fight. But let's wait 'ere a while first." Since they had already gone 15 minutes into the sewers, it would be a good half hour before the party returned, and Fosco didn't want to get too far ahead of the backup.

"All right, makes sense!" Goldy says with a smile. After thinking for a short while, she asks Fosco "Wait, so... you didn't complain about not seeing in the dark! But aren't you a halfling, too? I thought you guys can't see well in the dark!"
