Advice/Help Wanting to sign up for more RPs

Posts for the groups I am in have slowed down, and I want to sign up for more. The problem? The semester just started up, and on top of that, I am working part-time and volunteering at a hospital. I know when the four groups pick again, I won't have much time for anything new.

Send help.

Will they pick up though? When groups stop posting its usually for good. Sometimes RPs will bounce back but when that momentum dies its a death blow for most. If they've been inactive for a week or more it's a good bet the RP is dead unless it's a rare outlier.

Give some new content a go, if the RPs you're in bounce back it won't be all of them. Even if you join a new one or two it won't overwhelm you, they'll just replace the spots you've lost.

For two of the groups, I have been a part of for three years now, and we keep in touch and chat in OOC every day on Discord.

One group here, we have been hitting a post per week from each person. The other... We chat on Discord, but not as much, in-depth, or away from the rp as my other two groups.

First two groups are super stable then, so count those as active. Second two, don't be surprised if they die.

P.S

Three years? Jesus wtf that's insane. Congrats

If your bored I find reading or taking up some kind of offline hobby is better than adding new groups. It gives you something to keep you engaged without requiring a lot of time commitment once your days fill up

I already run, making jewelry, hike, and camp (backpacking) regularly — also, video and tabletop gaming. I just have an urge to have a back and forth with my characters with other people’s characters.

In that case ask your group if they would be down for a crack thread. It’s basically sort of like a behind the scenes place where you can just be silly with your characters. I know in an X-Men roleplay I was in, they had a crack thread where me and a friend came up with this elaborate backstory of my character getting rid of unwanted roommates so she could have an extra space for her lucky charm collection.

it wasn’t “canon” to the actual roleplay but it was a fun thing to do in between IC posts.

Edit : How it works from a practical standpoint is you just make an extra page and label it (Crack Thread) and let players post whatever insane ideas they want there. There are no rules beyond don’t be a dick or post site inappropriate content.

I occasionally get ideas for RPs, but, often times they are kinda bad, at least when i get them written down.

If you're not group-exclusive, you could look into 1x1 RPs. If you find the right partner, they'll usually be pretty lax when posting slows down on your side or becomes sporadic.

Are many people group-exclusive, do you reckon? I know I am, but I've always assumed I'm a minority for some reason.

I honestly don't know, I'm 1x1 exclusive myself and I figure I'm also in the minority. I imagine most people are more flexible than either of us, haha.

Haha, my rping archnemesis! But yeah, perhaps it's more uncommon to specialise in just one form of rping. I used to like dice rping a lot too, although that's still somewhat in the realm of group rps.
