THE VALUUD REGION

For one reason or another, you have been invited to the Valuud Region, a land of duality; of untamed wilds but also cutting-edge technology and advancement, with both sprawling cities and vast outback. You may be intimately familiar with the region, or you may have never heard of it, whatever the case may be, the reason for your arrival was an opportunity you couldn’t refuse.

Maybe the rousing notion of adventure and challenge brought you, maybe you were offered a job you couldn’t turn down. Maybe you are being recognized for talents that other regions couldn’t see, or maybe you’re returning home to family. Regardless of reason, the Valuud Region welcomes you!

GRANDIS CITY DOCKS / 12 PM / SUNNY - 85°F(29°C)

A loud horn cutting through the air signaled the cruise ship’s proximity to the shore of the Valuud Region’s capital city of Grandis. The sharp sound, to some, might be surprising and harsh, however for the citizens of Grandis it was a regular occurrence, and many often paid it no mind other than receivers at the dock. Cruising closely to the right of the ship was a Wailord and seen in the clear waters just around it were 2 Wailmer and several other water-type Pokémon. In the air above you squawked several Wingulls who were following a large Pelipper and just above them, a pair of Swellow who darted quickly away and towards the shore.

There was a raucous buzz in the air, one almost indistinguishable from the distance you were at, yet as the ship drew closer you began to recognize as human activity; the honking of car horns, the shouting of vendors and the chatter and laughter of citizens going about their day.

The dock itself was abuzz with workers and tourists alike, scurrying around each other as bags were grabbed and bodies departed ships. It seemed chaotic, but there was method in the madness and the efficiency of these workers was not to be questioned, as despite the chaotic circumstance of their workplace, not a single departing passenger left unhappy, at least not that could be seen. Another horn sounded as your ship pulled in to port and successfully docked. It wasn’t long after the procedure was finished that passengers began departing and meeting with receivers and dock workers to retrieve their belongings and make their way into the beating heart of this massive city.

ELSEWHERE / 12 PM / SUNNY - 85°F(29°C)

The rest of the Valuud Region was just as busy with activity as the docks of that grand city. It was noon at the start of summer, students were enjoying their days away from school and vacationers were taking in the sights of the region. Even the unruly outback of Valuud seemed jolly today, although you certainly wouldn't want to be caught out there with no Pokémon. It seemed today that the entire region was alight with energy and enthusiasm, ready for whatever the day might bring.

Lizzie

tane city gym leader

Sunbeams broke through a window and kissed the forehead of a serenely napping Whimsicott as it lay in the windowsill of Lizzie's room. A few feet away, snoring ever so quietly in her bed was the girl herself, splayed out haphazardly, her blanket thrown practically three feet away on the ground. Hanging off of a bar and swinging back and forth in front of a pair of Oddish was Lizzie's Weepinbell, a spark of mischief in its eyes. It gave itself a few more good swings before letting go of the bar with its vine and launching itself at Lizzie's head, landing mouth first on her face. It flicked the sides of her face with its leaves before rolling to the side off of her and watching with satisfaction as she shot up, gasping and tossing her arms around.

"Gah-Huh-WAH?!" She spluttered, reaching for something to wipe her face off, nearly tripping as she shot to her feet. She shot a glare to the giddy Weepinbell and stomped off to her bathroom to start the process of getting ready for the day. The commotion caused by Lizzie had stirred the Whimsicott who gave Weepinbell a little frown before hopping off the windowsill and starting off into the garden room adjacent to Lizzie's bedroom. The sound of a shower starting up filled the upstairs apartment of the Tane City Pokémon stadium and nearly 15 minutes later the smell of toast filled the air. Down the hall from Lizzie's bedroom was Kiarra, a dedicated Gym Trainer employed by Lizzie who often acted as somewhat of a personal assistant to her as well, making the gym leader her breakfast as she got ready.

Soon after, Lizzie stomped from her bathroom back into her bedroom and got dressed for the day. Her outfit today consisted of a green floral button-up shirt, a white crop top, white shorts, and green sneakers. Once dressed she moved into her kitchen and gave Kiarra a pat on the back as she reached around her and grabbed the toast that she'd prepared for her, "Cheers for the brekkie! Gotta head on out to Grandis to fetch the new Mella Town Gym Leader. Supposed to be a right talented gal." She said with a nod to the girl. "Hold things down while I'm out? Garden's gotta be watered too, if ya don't mind." She asked. Kiarra smiled and nodded, "Course! Be safe out there today, we'll be waitin' on ya."

With that Lizzie clambered down the stairs and onto the stadium floor, toast hanging from her lips. She grabbed the corner of it after taking a quick bite and swallowing before giving a wave to the other trainers that were getting situated on the floor. "Morning! Turnin' today into a training day, gotta get out to Grandis to grab somebody, do your best today!" And with her morning introduction done she grabbed her keys from her office and headed out of the stadium. She turned the corner and walked onto the car park, trouncing over to her bright green truck and popping in. She turned the engine over and smiled as it roared to life after a few short sputters.

The drive to Prence City was relatively quiet, not lots of traffic today, although she could feel the jolly energy in the air this morning, and that energized her. She turned the radio up and jammed out to some music before promptly pulling into the car park for the Prence City VAL-Track Station. She entered the station with relative ease, boarding the train rather quickly by flashing her League ID. The train ride over lasted about an hour an half before the vehicle pulled into the station at Karragan Town. From there she'd have to walk, but that was okay because the weather today seemed prime for it. So good in fact that she felt comfortable with reaching into her pockets and fetching Passion's pokeball. She let the Sawsbuck out of the ball and gave him a quick scratch on the chin before starting on the path. "Fine day today, Passion. Let's stretch our legs!"

The walk from Karragan to Grandis lasted another half an hour before dirt turned into pavement and the loud chatter of the city filled the air. She heard the cutting screech of a cruise liner pulling in to port and she pulled her Rotom-Phone from her pocket. Just on time. She scrolled through her messages and located the request she'd gotten from the League Admins. Clicking on it revealed an ID photo of Ciaran and after memorizing her face, Lizzie made her way to the docks, a smile on her lips and a hum emitting from her throat. Passion followed confidently behind her, catching a few glances from passersby on the road. Sawsbuck in a city were not a common sight, many being much too timid around vehicles and the buzz of so many people, but Passion was an exception.

Drawing closer to the dock, Lizzie identified the ship Ciaran was supposed to be coming in on and she stood by the departure ramp, crossing her arms as she waited to spot the girl.

  • how she's feeling...

a bit overwhelmed, but she has support

Ciaran

Mella Town Gym Leader

"Thank you very much."

Smiling wide and nodding her head in acknowledgement to a helpful dock worker, Ciaran swiftly moved onwards with a couple of her newly retrieved bags in hand. They weren’t as big or full as some of the other bags that the young girl saw some people leave with. Rather, in comparison the bags Ciaran had with her were of a much smaller size and appeared to have already seen a fair amount of use, if the faded designs were of any indication.

At least they weren’t much of a struggle to carry.

Ciaran walked for a couple more seconds, before suddenly pausing. Her eyes took in the grandness of the city and the buzzing activity surrounding her. It was drastically different from what she was accustomed to, not to mention overwhelming – both visually and audibly. She hadn’t seen so many people moving around in one place before, not even Goldenrod had ever felt this bustling.

“Oh…”
The word fell from her lips in a whisper as nearby conversations and hurrying footsteps mixed together, forming a growing cacophony of surrounding noise that started to assault her ears.

Crouching down to the ground, Ciaran spent a few moments staring at her shoes and keeping her arms loosely wrapped around her legs, before suddenly one of her pokeballs opened up on its own. Ciaran’s Greninja emerged, a stoic expression set on his face as he assessed his trainer’s current state, looking her up and down.

Ciaran looked up at the pokemon, another smile quickly gracing her face.
“Bay…sorry.”

The Ninja pokemon shook his head, as if disregarding the girl's apology, before extending a webbed hand towards her. Ciaran blinked, before slowly taking his hand and allowing the other to help her up.

“Right…yes, I suppose we’ll go through this together.”

“Gre.”

Keeping a hold on her partner’s hand for security and taking a breath, Ciaran used her remaining free hand to pull out her Rotom Phone. She brought up the last message she’d received from the League, glancing at the photo attached showing what the gym leader she was supposed to meet up with looked like.

She angled the photo so Bay could see too.
“This is who we have to meet with. Let’s try to find her quickly, it wouldn’t do to make her wait any longer.”

Immediately after she said that, her Greninja quickly began to lead Ciaran through the chaos, dodging workers and tourists alike with ease. The girl's eyes widened a little as she was pulled along, having to walk at a slightly faster pace in order to keep up with the pokemon.

It didn’t take much longer for the pair to arrive at the departure ramp, especially with Bay leading with such determination. Ciaran took a look around, before her eyes landed on an older-looking girl with crossed arms. Comparing her to the picture, she looked like a perfect match.

“Um, excuse me?”
Ciaran called out.
“Might you be…Elizabeth Ross, by any chance?”

Chris

Pokemon Ranger

Chris had to admit that she was looking forward to this excursion, even if it did mean that there was a lot of work to do. Seminars are fun to do and all but they could get tiring fast— but at least she wasn't being timed for it. She could actually see the sights of a region instead of beelining to a certain area, doing her job, and immediately being shipped back to Unova. She had promised Lia to grab a couple of pictures and send over some souvenirs when she had the time.

Chris spent most of the boat ride to the Valuud region above the deck. There were a couple of others but they came and went, unlike the ranger who stood against the railing with a Pachirisu sticking close by. It was such a peaceful time and she could bask under both the sunlight and the wind against her face.

Well, peaceful aside from the sound of her friend retching onto the water below.

As unfortunate as it was, Geo had gotten tired from his constant flight and urged Luka to land so that he could rest. Then, Avin refused to fly out, much preferring to rest inside his own pokeball rather than spend his time in the sky. Technically speaking, Chris could convince Avin to aid Luka but the latter seemed to have already made up his mind that he should be fine since the region was close anyway.

By all means, the ride would be over shortly but not short enough. Chris sympathetically rubbed his back, hoping that it would help somewhat.
"Maybe we should have gotten some medicine for you."
She sighed with a tight smile.
"Look, the cruise ship is docking soon. Just hang on a little longer."

And as she said, it wasn't long before the cruise ship had completely docked. Chris gently accompanied her friend off the ship and collected their luggage. They didn't exactly pack too much considering they were expected to constantly be on the move and she was sure she could restock at ranger bases if need be. Patch had hopped onto Chris's shoulder, hitching a ride with her trainer, as they descended from the cruise. Quickly, she guided her friend towards a less crowded area so he could catch his breath and calm down from the trip.

"Do you want me to get you some water, Luka?"
She asked after a moment of silence. At least Chris could confidently say that the start to her adventure in the Valuud region was certainly eventful!

Butterfly Bossa
Seycara
ILLUKA WHISTLER

Fuckin’ hell, when I said I wanted to go to the beach, I didn’t mean like this.

Grey strands fluttered against the ocean breeze; orbs of the same hue trying hard to steady themselves before he completely lost control, giving up a sandwich he just ate to the sea—even just glancing at the ocean's surface was enough to make him feel like throwing up.

"C'mon, Geo... you've been doing great since we left, don't give up on me now." He groaned, his head leaning back on the Pidgeot’s shoulder. "Just a little longer and we can take a break..."

His hands gripped the Pidgeot's feathers a bit tighter; The trainer leaned back to rest his head against the feathered creature's side, trying to keep himself from looking down into the depths. The only thing worse than getting his butt kicked in a Pokémon battle was having to deal with his least favorite thing in the world: seasickness. Yet even with the journey nearing its end, it was no use; Geo was inexplicably exhausted, and they landed right back on the cruise ship with a thud. He loathed being on any floating sea vessel, and while his Pidgeot really was the MVP for this round, even that wasn’t enough to fully relieve him—not to mention, his other companion's Flying-type was too busy not giving a flying fuck about his current situation, so he was a bit sour at that. But what could he do?

The grey-haired male bitterly resigned himself to his fate; he knew he couldn’t burden Goodnight, his Noctowl with daytime flight, and the rest of his Flying-types were still too low-level to even try—much less in an open body of water like this—as it could become a graver situation if he attempted anything like that. So, it was best not to entertain the thought despite his unsettled stomach.

"Ugh… Geo return…"

After a while, the researcher lifted his head up, Chris approached him, yet his gaze was fixated at the clouds drifting by. His discomfort was no secret to his friend, who, unlike him, was enjoying this maritime trip. Luka’s eyes narrowed slightly, and he merely huffed at her retrospection of how they should’ve probably packed nausea meds before boarding.

"Stupid boat."

The trip had been uneventful, save for the waves and the wind. The latter he could tolerate, but the former were a problem. He couldn’t really be bothered making small talk even if he could, he just didn’t see the point when he could just hole himself up in his mind for a bit before tackling Valuud head on. Though, it wasn't long before the cruise ship was close enough to see land.

Then at long last, the infernal mode of transportation ceased its movement.

“Zang…time to come out,” he mumbled, still trying to hold it down. He reached inside his waist bag for a certain Poké Ball, one that carried his first Pokémon, and out came a similarly sickened Zangoose.

“Zan…goose…”

“Yeah, m-me too friend.”

Chris decided to help him get off the boat, and down the ramp, with Zang clutching his hand as they walked off together. A pressing question tore him away from his thoughts when asked if he wanted some water. Water. That was probably the last thing he needed now. His face darkened at the thought of more liquid yet a few seconds right after—an attempt at a grin emerged, though not entirely reflecting the fact that he just braved through one of his major displeasures.

"I'll be aight! Just… need to walk around a lil’…"

He took a deep breath, and solidly planted his foot on land once again. Slowly, but surely, his stomach was settling back down. It was time to take in the sights of a familiar place—one that he hadn't been to in a long, long time. A myriad of passersby and fellow passengers mixing and intermingling with each other until their temporary roles were no more, owing to the massive blob of people that traversed the big city, as expected of the region’s capital.

Hmph, never thought I'd miss this place.

Luka sighed, then turned to Chris, giving her a nod. His features and attitude returning to a more objective angle, "Chop chop, think the Pokémon Center’s that a way. Less you wanna do something here for a bit, in which case, I’ll go right on ahead."

The day burned bright with the afternoon sun, its presence accompanied by a cool sea breeze and the chatter of people and pokemon alike as the cruise ship cut through the ocean waves like paper. The passengers aboard were nothing short of happy and content as they either lay languidly on beach chairs above board or bask in quiet pleasure that their day to day job had no room on their calendar this week. Few still stood in groups of four or five, their pokemon loyally playing close by, as they chatted about their current life and what each person had been up to for the past few months. It certainly was a happy day, and nothing could break the bubble of delight-

"'Scuuuuuse meeee!" The sharp, sing song-y voice cut through the air abruptly, causing those close by to cover their ears or frown in disapproval to the girl who was now pushing her way through the crowds. Everything about her was loud, from her voice down to the clothes on her back. The frilly, bright pink dress clashed terribly with the general summer aesthetic everyone else donned, which wouldn't have bothered most if not for the fact that the young trainer was forcefully squeezing past unassuming passengers in an attempt to get off the ship first. A small Gothita ran along behind the girl, just as brash and disruptive as her trainer.

"Goth! Gothita!"

"C'mon Gothita! Gotta get below deck before everyone else decides ta jam up the walkways!" Mae called over her shoulder, her face flushed with excitement. Just as the two made it down to the lower deck the horn blew its last call, letting those on board know it was just about time to dock and get the heck off. Just as expected, only a few minutes later did the stairs leading to the upper deck become congested with impatient tourists. Mae smiled to herself and picked Gothita up as the doors opened to let the sun spill out into the ship. It only took about ten minutes for Mae to finally hit land, unsteadily swaying as her body got used to solid ground.

"Ohmygosh Ohmygosh we're heeeere!" The place looked even better than the pictures online. Mae could hardly contain the rush of adrenaline she felt as the bustling streets of Grandis City hit her senses like a Tauros. Everything seemed larger here- the sights, the smells, the sounds- it was almost overwhelming. Almost.

"I can't believe we finally made it! I'll bet mom's traveled here plenty of times! If only Beau were here to see..." Mae's expression fell for just a moment as she tried to picture her brother's reaction to all of this. It was bigger than any city she'd ever seen before! He would've loved it...

"Gothita..." The pokemon touched Mae's forearm gently, watching her with concern to which Mae forcefully put on a smile.

"Awe, don't worry 'bout me! This is a new start, remember? We're here to get new experiences and meet new people! Oh but that reminds me, we should probably figure out where the pokemon center is!" Mae frowned and glanced around for a moment, seeking out anyone that might look even slightly useful. Unfortunately, most of the people she noticed seemed to just be getting off of the ship...

Ah well. Sometimes things had to be done the hard way.

Shrugging, Mae began her quest of questioning the tourists that seemed ready to drop dead asleep in a hotel somewhere instead of answering questions. Nobody was quite helpful, of course, either giving a hesitant "Well... I'm not sure", or simply shrugging and rounding up their children and pokemon to get to their destination.

Mae groaned, getting incredibly impatient with the lack of knowledge she clearly thought these people should have.

"I'm a young and promising trainer here, these people are just old! Old people know everything, so what's the deal?" Turning in a wide circle, it wasn't until Mae caught wind of two young trainers speaking about the pokecenter that she made her move. Eyeing the girl and boy who stood moseying in the middle of the walkway, she stomped up to them, Gothita resting her head on her hand in boredom.

"You! Where's the pokecenter? I gotta get there so I can start my hunt for gym badges right away," She paused for a moment, briefly wondering if her lack of introduction to other people was the cause of being brushed off, before adding, "Maebry, by the way, but most people just call me Mae."

Gil was in the cafeteria of the cruise ship as he just leaned back in his chair, it seems he had just finished eating lunch if the plate of crumbs and the napkin he wiped over his face didn't give it away. He took a moment to savor the satisfactory of recently consuming a decent--and delicious--meal before he heard the sound of the ship's horn which notified passengers that they were close to shore. Gil then got up from his chair and made his way over to where his room was, he didn't bring too much with him; only enough to fit in one bag that he carried with him throughout his travels to Sinnoh, he sat on the bed and admired how it felt since he knew it would be the last time he would feel it for a long time. He reached in to his pocket and got out his Rotom phone where he went to phone his father, he laid down on the bed as he patiently waited for his father to pick up.

"Hey dad, just calling to let you know that I'm just about to arrive in Valuud, the cruise was no trouble at all... Yeah, the thought of exploring a new region certainly sounds exciting..." He paused to let his father speak, what he had to say forced a little laugh from his closed mouth. "I know, I know, I'll make sure to keep in touch as well as be careful during my travels. You said all this to me before I started my journey as a trainer." Gil explained before the next thing he had to say caused his smile to turn in to an annoyed scowl. "...Yeah, I know... I can't exactly say I'm looking forward to meeting her..." Gil said before he sighed and sat up in his bed. "Yeah, I'm about to get ready to depart and all that, I'll text you how my first day in the new region goes." He said as he stood up and looked out the window. "I love you too, bye." Gil said as he hung up and put his phone back in his trouser pocket, walked over to collect his bag and walked out of his room and over to the bow of the boat to admire the scenery before him, from the waters that surrounded him to the land of new adventures before him.

When the ship finally docked and the ramp became overrun with tourists eager to get off, Gil patiently followed behind and made sure not to get in anyone's way too much. Unlike many who wore attires ready for summer, Gil's attire consisted of what he usually wore; mainly a thin grey turtleneck and his favorite brown coat. Once he finally set foot on the docks and walked towards where the city was--mainly to give other people room to get off the boat--Gil took a deep breath and sighed, he seemed to enjoy how different the air felt compared to how it felt back home in Sinnoh. A new region to explore, new Pokemon to find and befriend, people to meet, both new and old... the latter caused him to scowl again as he remembered one of the key reasons he came here, but just as soon as he thought of it, he smiled and brushed those bad thoughts aside, he knew he would meet his contact sooner or later while he was here in Valuud.

...But nobody said he had to be in a rush to do so.

Just as he was about to ponder his first move on what to do, he turned his head when he overheard a girl ask some people about the location of a Pokemon Center. Gil looked down at his Pokemon and thought it would be a great place to start, he was unsure if any of his Pokemon felt unwell from the boat ride, but he always liked to make sure his Pokemon were in top shape, plus he knew it would help to get familiar with their locations in the long run.

Lizzie

tane city gym leader

The image of the girl etched in her mind, it wasn't hard to notice as the query of her visit to Grandis approached her, a Greninja holding her hand. Huh. That wasn't something you saw everyday, though Lizzie surely had seen odder things. "Might you be Elizabeth Ross, by any chance?" Oof, she hadn't her full name like that since last she'd pissed off her mum. Despite being slightly taken aback by the rather formal greeting, Lizzie gave the new gym leader a smile and a curt nod, patting Passion on the thick of his neck.

"I surely am! Though most everyone calls me Lizzie, so you can feel free to do the same! And this here is Passion." At her introduction of the Sawsbuck he brayed and shook his head in greeting. "And you must be Ciaran. Y'know, we kinda look alike! Don't tell me you're some kinda long lost sister or something?" She joked, flashing a toothy smile. Without waiting for a response from the new gym leader, Lizzie reached into her pocket and retrieved her rotom phone once more.

After swiftly unlocking it she started to scroll through her text thread with the League Administration. "Alrighty, so according to the league, you won't start your first full day in the gym until next week. It'll give you a nice reprieve from traveling and allow you the chance to settle into your new pad, interview your current gym staff and rotate them out as you see fit." Lizzie wasn't a huge fan of the administrative work that went into managing her gym, but it was unfortunately part of the job, and she was tasked with showing Ciaran here the ropes. "Not to mention giving you the chance to prep your gym team and submit your roster to the league."

"Me and Passion here are gonna get you to Mella Town soon as you wanna head out. Or if you'd like we can give ya a little tour of Grandis first, maybe catch a match at the stadium if there's anything goin' on. Whatever you're down for!"

Elijah

rookie pokémon trainer

Time was an odd construct, one that often slipped from the young trainer's mind, although as of late he'd been faced with the reality of its constant flow. Graduation. It had come and gone, some might argue too soon for the prospective trainer. Within the top echelons of his class, Eli had attended - and graduated - Uni much earlier than many of his peers, although much to the chagrin of his Professors, the boy's dreams did not lie in labs and classrooms, but rather on the battlefield, with Pokémon by his side and fire for battle in his heart. He wanted to raise and train Pokémon, to grow beside them and to teach them things, to become great alongside them.

"Oy, quit daydreamin' son! We gotta get her out so we can get ya to Grandis!" A voice shook him from his daydreaming and the boy looked to his right to see his Grandfather standing aboard a clean but small boat. The call of a Pelliper in the sky reminded him that he was on the docks of his family's house in Mella Town. He'd gone home after graduation to spend holiday with his family before he started his challenge of the league.

"Right. On it." He muttered and moved into action, a sudden excitement building in his chest. He moved quickly to untie the boat from the dock, climbing aboard the boat beside his grandmpa and starting the engine to the boat. "Throw her in reverse and turn her 'round, Grandis is west. She's in your hands 'till we get there." Henry said as he took a seat, clapping Eli on the shoulder.

The boat ride to Grandis was rather uneventful, save for seeing a massive cruise liner pulling into dock. It'd been awhile since Eli had seen such a massive ship, having spent most of his previous time in Grandis either in class or in his dorms studying. The wind whipping across his face felt refreshing and the smell of salt on the air was something he was more than familiar with having grown up in Mella Town. "Alright, slow it up, son. We'll dock and then we'll get ya to Acacia." Henry shouted over the wind. Eli grunted but was reluctant to let up on the throttle. He was excited now. This was it! He'd be getting his first Pokémon and registering with the League.

Nonetheless, Eli listened to the advice of his grandfather and slowed the vessel as it neared the civilian docks. Henry stood as the inched closer and grabbed the rope that was lying on the floor of the boat, expertly tossing it and wrapping it around an anchor point while the boat was still pulling in. He tightened it and dragged the boat closer to the wooden dock, tying it off with the swiftness of a man who'd spent most of his life on the sea. "Okay, let's get goin'."

"Ya sure ya don't wanna wait here, pops? I'd hate to keep you waitin' in the lobby while I get registered and whatnot." Eli asked, hands on his hips as he looked at the older man that had raised him. Henry wiggled his mustache and thought on it for a moment before plopping back down onto the seat of the boat, "Yeah, you're probably right. Better someone stay with the boat anyhow, never know what could happen in a big city like this." Eli smiled and gave him a quick pat on the shoulder. "I'll try to be quick."

With that the boy departed the boat and walked swiftly up the ramp into the broader docking area, a hub where most arrivals mingled while they waited on their bags or rides. To his left he saw a small gathering of rather young looking folks and some Pokémon around them. His ears pricked at hearing the word Pokémon center and a closer inspection of the crowd revealed the nauseous face on one of the young men's faces. "Ay! How's it, mates? Ya lookin' for the Pokémon center?" He called out as he approached them.

Overall they looked a rather experienced crowd, in a general sense, though he could tell that for the most part they were newbies to the area. One in particular looked quite out of place, given the weather in Grandis today. "Ya might be a touch more comfortable with a little less, ay mate?" He asked, pointing his question at the boy who was wearing layers.

Chris

Pokemon Ranger

Chris nodded, allowing Luka some space to recover when she was sure he wasn't going to topple over himself the moment she let go. Though, as per what he said, he soon recovered once he got some more air in his lungs and his feet on solid ground.

In those moments, she decided to rummage around her satchel to procure a pokeblock and handed it to Patch. The Pachirisu happily sat down by on her shoulder to begin to nibble at the item. Chris had studied a map of the region beforehand but it was nice that Luka had agreed to join her on this venture— it might have been a long time since he had been in Valuud but he was still a native and could likely help her.

She turned her attention back to Luka when he had spoken up and she nodded.
"Mm, glad you're feeling better then. We can head to the center and-"

She felt her hair standing on end as Pachirisu's static electricity discharged for just a moment like a warning before someone had shouted out to them. Chris turned to the owner of the voice and found that she had, indeed, been referring to them.
"Well, center is apparently that way."
The ranger responded, gesturing vaguely to where Luka was going to lead her to.
"And, er, my name's Chris. It's my first time here in Valuud too."
She decided to respond with a kind, if not bashful, smile.

Gil turned his attention to the man that greeted them with a seemingly interesting accent and asked them about the Pokemon Center they were looking for, to which he nodded in response. "Yes, if I could get directions as to where it is, that would be great." He replied with a warm smile before the man seemed to call out his attire... something that he looked down at and was suddenly reminded of how warm it was--especially for a boy from a colder region like Sinnoh, this turned his confident smile in to a more tired one while he slowly nodded in agreement. "Perhaps... any recommended places where one could find some new clothes to wear? Sure, I keep a few extra sets of clothes with me just in case, but being in a new region makes me curious about everything it has to offer." Gil explained as he put his hands in his pockets as he awaited the man's response, though he wouldn't complain much if the man was only able to enlighten him regarding the location of the city's Pokemon Center.

Ciaran

Mella Town Gym Leader

A polite smile took its usual place on the girl’s face, listening rather intently to the gym leader she had managed to identify as Eliza– no, Lizzie. She looked older, more experienced. Addressing her in what felt quite…casual, well, it didn’t feel right.

Not that these thoughts would surface. Her expression remained the same, as it was supposed to when giving seniors your undivided attention. It was a practiced expression that she knew how to do well. She could have continued to keep it on, too, if she hadn’t been taken by surprise by what came from the grass gym leader said next.

“Don’t tell me you’re some kinda long lost sister or something?”

What?

For the briefest of seconds, her smile slipped. Her eyes lost their considerate attentiveness, instead slowly clouding over with a dull look. Vacant, lifeless. Empty.

“Creepy”.

It wasn’t real. Plenty of people just look alike sometimes, having similarities doesn’t have to mean anything.

But when she thought about…him, who she knew him as, what she picked up about him throughout the years…

When she blankly regarded the older girl in front of her, perhaps it wouldn’t be so surprising if her father had gotten up to something in all the time he spent away on one of his many adventures.

…Thinking about it for too long sickened her. It was unbecoming of a “lady”. She had to push these thoughts back, quickly. Collect herself.

It was only a joke, after all.

Ciaran blinked, painting yet another smile onto her face. Pulling herself away from that train of thought, she could feel a pair of eyes staring hard at her. Of course, it was none other than her partner. Glancing slightly at her Greninja, she kept up the same smile. The water-type didn’t look very amused, but then again emotions had never really been readable on his face.

He did grip her hand just a bit tighter though.

She kept her attention focused again on the other gym leader, taking in her words as if it was something she absolutely had to do. She shifted in place a bit the moment she was presented with options for how they could proceed next, however. Her focus drifted to the big city life that surrounded them.

Grandis really was like nothing she had ever seen before. There seemed to be a never-ending stream of people no matter where she looked. It was…unnerving. Truthfully, Ciaran would love to leave this place as soon as possible. But…

“Whatever you would like to do will be fine.”
She answered with a smile.
“Anything you could present me with would be an enjoyable experience, I assure you.”

Her eyes scanned the area once more. Ciaran then brought her free hand up to her face, as if in total awe.

“Ah, but I must say, this is a lovely city! Goldenrod truly doesn’t compare to it!”
