"Yes." Tyler quickly agreed with Acacia, "I only left the classes I was already taking because they were too boring and not really challenging anymore. I've moved on to the violin after graduating but it's mostly for fun." He bragged, noting that's what Acacia was trying to do, then took a sip from his punch.

"Though lately neither of us have any free time with all my classes at SI and school and Ty's got his hands full with helping his dad out at his company." He added, leaving out his other dad when he recalled Acacia's warning.

"Oh? And just what is it that your dad does?" Michael asked in a challenge.

Acacia literally had to bite back insult. The piano part had been true. The violin, not so much. If Tyler wove up too many lies for her to keep up, she'd be humiliated later on.

"He's the CEO of Spec. Sometimes I help him out with his business," Acacia smiled, answering politely as she took a sip from the mango juice provided.

"Ah, I see the birthday girl. Cia, you wanna go up and pass her your gift?" the brunet suggested. She had nabbed the tulips from the fridge that morning, rearranging it in the black bouquet paper. A note was tied to the end that wrote 'happy birthday sis' in Acacia's scrawly handwriting. The flowers were put into a bag. She hoped the chocolate hadn't melted off the petals.

Should he really face Acacia's sister alone?

When he couldn't think of an excuse he merely smiled and got up, taking Acacia's bag with him. "I'll be right back, handsome." He said with a squeeze of Acacia's (his) shoulder, smiling genuinely when he almost used the pet name 'Honey boo' again but decided against it.

He'd seen pictures of her sister but even if he hadn't he would've easily spotted the girl out for her resemblance to Acacia. They were twins by any means but anyone could tell they were related.

She was alone so he walked up to her and wrapped his arms around her in a swift hug. "Happy birthday, Leianna." He said as he gave her the bouquet. "Hope you find my little touch amusing." He added, saying nothing more in hopes of not blowing his cover.

"Wait, I'll join you," Acacia said quickly. No way are you leaving me alone with a spawn of satan. "Gotta pay my respects to the birthday girl," she added with a wink. Grabbing her clutches, she followed Tyler to where Leianna was.

She was dressed up as always, looking like a perfect doll. Her husband was somewhere among the throng, speaking with fellow business associates. It felt more of a company lunch than a birthday party.

"I'm so glad you could make it, Cia," Leianna smiled, her voice was soft and mellifluous. Acacia's voice probably would've sounded the same if not for all the cigarettes she smoked. "You got me flowers!" She said excitedly as she pulled the bouquet out. Her face immediately fell. Confusion etched in her eyes, "With... melted chocolate?"

She sighed, looking crestfallen. Like last years gift, this gift could be deemed useless. She couldn't use it at all.

"Hey, don't look too sad. I heard tulip petals are edible," Acacia said, momentarily forgetting that she was in Tyler's body. "Err, just avoid the bulb. Those are poisonous."

Leianna looked over at her strangely and only then did Acacia recall who she was. She straightened up the best she could with crutches. "Um, I'm--"

"Cia's boyfriend?" Leianna interrupted, looking over at Acacia (Tyler), "This is your boyfriend right?" She looked pensive.

'Sorry' He wanted to say when he noticed her disappointment, 'Your sister is weird and she insisted on ruining the gift so you'd know it's her. Doesn't make sense, I know. Again, she's weird.'

Tyler kept his thoughts to himself.

"Yes, he's the one." Tyler replied with a smile, turning to Acacia and gesturing at her (Tyler) with his hand. "Leianna, this is Tyler Bay. Ty, this is my sister Leianna." He introduced the two sisters.

"Lovely party, by the way." He added, gesturing around them.

Leianna smiled and offered a hand for Acacia to shake. "Nice to meet you Tyler. Thank you for taking care of my sister. I hope she isn't causing you too much trouble."

Acacia laughed and shook her head, "Oh, none at all. Cia's a perfect angel." Which was an obvious lie. Leianna didn't look convince either but she still smiled politely at him.

"He seems nice," she whispered to Tyler (Acacia). The random comment had her surprised though. Acacia never made small talk and hardly complimented people. "Oh? The party? Yes, mother was the one who called in the decorators. She should be here any minute now actually." Leianna said, turning when she heard her name called out by her husband.

"Go have a good lunch you two," Leianna said, turning to Acacia (Tyler). She looked serious as she spoke to her sister in a quiet plea, "Don't forget to say hi to mother. I know you hate her but for my sake, please don't fight her this time, okay? Be good." Leianna patted her cheek before walking off to join her husband.

Acacia made a face and rolled her eyes in a huff. "She really is at his beck and call," Acacia grumbled to herself, not because she hated her sister but because she hated his husband who treated her more of a glorified pet. She was angry at Leianna for allowing it as well.

"Fine, no fighting" Tyler promised before Leianna left. Meeting Acacia's mother was a little scary but so far things had been going relatively smooth. Relatively.

"I take it you don't like the brother-in-law?" Tyler pointed out as he hooked his arm through her good one, the one that wasn't holding the crutches, so she could lean on him and for appearance sake as well. "Also I don't know about you but I'm not planning on going near that table any time soon with what's-his-face still there." He added, steering her to a less crowded area of the rooftop with a nice view. A small break before they had to mingle again.

"How are you holding up, Romans?" He asked her.

She'd mentioned several times throughout the week that she didn't want to come and yet she was here. He could tell she wasn't very happy about that.

"Me neither," Acacia admitted with a tired grin. "Her husband is a pompous ass. The only reason why they're married is because he paid her way into her life," she scowled when they were far away enough. Most of the elite males she knew were extremely arrogant with a high and mighty attitude. If people thought Acacia was bad, they should see the crowd she mingles with.

"Tired, mostly. And hungry," Acacia said. The breeze felt nice against her skin. "But I rather starve than have to eat with Michael around." She cracked a small smile in his direction. "What about you? Overwhelmed? Underwhelmed?"

"We can totally sneak downstairs to the kitchen and grab us something to eat." Tyler suggested with a grin and a suggestive wiggle of his eyebrows. "But for now I stashed some of these in here." He said as he opened her little purse and got out a packet of Mentos, handing it over to her.

"I'm freaking out a little on the inside but I'm fine." He reassured her, shrugging, "I see why you'd avoid these, though. Doesn't seem like your setting." He added, looking around and thinking about the double life Acacia Romans read.

"So," He said as he turned to her, "Probably not the best time to bring it up but about last night; we're cool, yeah?" he asked, wanting to clear things for good.

"That sounds like an amazing plan but I'm on crutches and you have an injured leg. My mom would kill me if she found out," Acacia replied dryly. Her eyes lit up at the sight of candy and she popped two in her mouth before passing it back to Tyler. "What a lifesaver," she sighed, resting her arms against the railing.

It was a relief that he was holding up well. Freaking out was normal given how everyone around them were all egoistic sociopaths. "It really isn't, but the food is great." That much she could admit.

She listened to what Tyler had to say and for a while, she had actually forgotten that they fought just the night prior. The series of drunk texts she sent him still mortified her. "Uh," she looked down at the city below them, "Yeah. I guess so." Acacia frowned, unsure of what else to say. Should she apologize again? It was harder to do now that she was sober.

She made a weird face as she moved away from him. They were practically arm to arm, hip to hip because of it. Their shared space was comfortable but a pervading thought nagged at the back of the girl's mind.

"What are we, Ty?" Acacia asked, her expression falling into something unreadable. "We aren't strangers and we're too close to be friends."

Tyler took the candy back and took one out to slowly munch on them placed the packet back in his purse. The darn thing was too small to carry more than his phone, keys, and the mentos and he briefly wondered how girls managed at events like these.

He frowned a little when she took a step away, only realizing then how close they stood together. If they were cool why did she still look upset?

Then she asked him what they were and he had no idea how to answer that.

Leaning against the railing, he stared at the sky as if the answer would be written there. After a few seconds passed he answered with a shrug.

"We're two people put in a situation where we have to work together to adapt. Kind of like gears. Two pieces of a bigger picture." He chuckled at how sappy his words sounded, even for him, "Kind of like two halves of a whole if you ask me." He said with a shrug.

"I know that doesn't really answer your question." The boy admitted, turning to look at her, "But that's the only answer I have. What's happening to us isn't normal, so I don't think it makes sense to find a normal label for us." He added.

Acacia replayed his words slowly in her mind. Her smile slow and soft like the sun as she thought about it. "Two halves of a whole," she repeated quietly to herself. "Has a nice ring to it, don't you think?" she asked, slipping her fingers into his hand. Technically, it was her hand but that can be overlooked.

They shared a quiet and peaceful moment together before Acacia heard someone call for her name. Naturally, she had turned first before Tyler had.

Uh oh. It was her mom.

Quickly, Acacia pulled her hand from Tyler's as though the contact burned. Acacia's mother, Mrs. Romans, came up with narrowing, sharp eyes. She glared daggers at the boy (Acacia) before turning her cold stare at her daughter (Tyler). There was visible disappointment in her eyes.

Tyler watched her smile and he couldn't help but smile as well and think to himself that she had a really really beautiful smile.

He gave her hand a squeeze as they shared this peaceful moment, a break from the hectic events going around them, but a very short one.

Someone called Acacia and he learned to turn when either of their names were called.

A middle aged Korean woman stood before them, and very very presence screamed money with her expensive looking dress and her hair made in an elegant low bun. Everything about her was simple and sophisticated and now Tyler definitely felt intimidated. Who wouldn't with that glare?

"Mother," He greeted the woman with a smile, "Lovely party. Leianna tells me you organized the whole thing and you did a great job as usual." He could immediately tell that wouldn't be something Acacia would say but at the same time he promised her sister to be on his best behavior which meant Acacia had to be on her best behavior.

He turned to Acacia (Tyler) and put a hand on her shoulder, "Tyler, meet my mother. Mom, this is Tyler, my boyfriend."

No matter how many times she saw her own mother, the sight of her still served to make Acacia wilt. Her aura was oppressive and she smiled, extending a hand.

"Hello, Mrs. Romans. I'm Tyler Bay."

The woman rose a brow, shaking Acacia's hand gingerly like it was contaminated before folding her arms over her chest. "Bay? Are you related to Andrew Bay?"

Take it for Acacia's mother to be well-informed. It was almost scary. "Yes, that's right," Acacia nodded, watching as her mother studied her with a pensive expression.

"Hm." That sole comment almost had Acacia wilting. Her mother's disapproval was often a hard thing to stomach.

Mrs. Romans said nothing else and instead waved her hand to leave. "Very well. I have matters to attend to. Callum would be seeing you back to your dorm later," she said to Acacia (Tyler).

God that woman was scary.

Tyler noted the way she shook Acacia's hand with some hurry and noted that this was the second time this happened. People had a weird way of treating strangers here. But an even weirder way of treating their own.

"Yes, mom." Tyler said obediently with a slight nod of his head.

Mrs Romans left as quick as she came without another exchange and he let out a breath he'd be holding then turned to check on Acacia.

Acacia. The girl who was always loud and present and never let anyone look down on her, she wasn't the same person standing beside him. Even in his body Tyler could tell the glint in Acacia's eyes was gone and any trace of a smile from their previous conversation was completely gone.

"Safe to say the worst is over for now." He reassured her, reaching out to slip his hand into hers. He felt that she wouldn't appreciate talking about her mother as problems between the two obviously ran deep so he didn't mention anything.

"We mingled, said hi to the important ones, and gave your gift. Think it's okay to call it a day?" He asked her, though if they had to stay he wouldn't argue.

Acacia was brought out of her daze when Tyler touched her hand. She smiled weakly at him and nodded, "Best idea I've heard yet." It was barely 2 PM but the girl wanted out.

"Let's go say bye to Thomas first before we leave," Acacia suggested as they maneuvered towards the exit, looking for the little boy. When she found him, she said her good byes and high-fived her brother before giving him a good bye hug. "Take care of yourself, sport." She said, ruffling his hair. Once that was all done, Tyler and Acacia were escorted out with Callum driving her back.

Sinking into the back seat, Acacia groaned as her stomach growled. "We should've took away some food before we left."

Tyler melted into the backseat, kicking off Acacia's shoes and taking out the Mentos again. They'll do nothing for the hunger but they were nice to munch on. His posture was much more relaxed as he handed Acacia the rest of the packet and stretched as best he could in the car.

"Take out? I doubt there's much to cook in the dorm's kitchen. We could order now so when we're there they don't take as long." He said while already taking out his phone. "Chinese?" He suggested. "Want anything, Callum?" He asked the man.

Callum was surprised to hear Acacia ask him what he wanted. He was merely hired help, but he answered anyways, "I ate at the party, young miss. If it's Chinese food you want, there's a good restaurant down the block. I can take you two there if you like."

Acacia nodded her approval, leaning over her seat to look at the roads. They were in a part of town which she was familiar with. "Ooh, wait! Let's stop here," she pointed at a restaurant not too far off. "They serve amazing Korean barbecue here," Acacia recommended.

The car stopped and Tyler rushed to get his shoes back on. It felt weird knowing that Callum would probably wait for them and he realized that he didn't like it as much as Acacia didn't but they were both injured and couldn't walk for long distances so really what other option did they have?

Acacia was already out of the car and he got out as well and joined her side. Tyler read the name of the place aloud as they walked in. A waitress led them to a table for two and gave them menus but Tyler was too busy taking in the place.

There weren't that many people inside and the music was nice but in a language he couldn't understand (he guessed it was Korean for obvious reasons) and something smelled so good it made his stomach rumble.

He turned back to Acacia and gestured at the menu, "Do you have any suggestions?" He asked her.

mon

Acacia nodded, looking excited as she thumbed through the menu. She already had what she wanted in mind.

"Ever had dak-galbi?" she asked Tyler with a grin. She ordered one set for them to share and a bowl of kimchi tofu soup. She loved the spices Asian cuisine had to offer. Korean especially, given their love for spice.

Tyler shook his head no, and smiled when she excitedly gave their order to the waitress. Hopefully the events of the party were forgotten and nothing else popped up so they can enjoy their meal.

The food arrived not that long after and Tyler opted for the beginner's chopsticks with the plastic bit that helped him control it easily. He took his first bite and his eyes widened at all the flavors.

"Hoth" He said around a mouthful.

Acacia laughed and shook her head as Tyler struggled with his food. "Look at this cheese pull," she mused, grabbing a bit of mozarella cheese from the dakgalbi dish, pulling it up and up with her chopsticks. She had to stand up just to get the cheese to pull off. Wrapping the cheese in a bite of meat, Acacia placed it in Tyler's bowl for him to try.

She's had this dish many times and she's never grown to hate it.

Tyler's eyes widened as Acacia got up for the cheese to pull off then she wrapped it and offered it to him and he took it, closing his eyes and letting out a moan of delight. "God this is amazing." he said after swallowing his food. "How'd you even find this place?" He asked as he scooped up more of the dakgalbi.

"Oh my god, Ty. We're in public and you're in my body," Acacia had to remind, embarrassed at the sound he made. There was no real heat in her words. She knows it's good.

"I came here with my step brother a few years back. He knows I love Korean food and this was the closest one to our place. They have good reviews here too," Acacia pointed out, scooping up some ramen to eat with her kimchi soup. "It's a shame he didn't show up at Leianna's party. I would've liked to say hi to him before we left, but then again," she gestured at her body and then Tyler's. "It's probably not the most convenient idea."

Tyler had the decency to blush but he was grinning too hard to actually look apologetic.

He chuckled a little at her comment and shrugged as he mimicked her and tried the ramen with the soup, humming in approval. "We would've managed like we did with the rest of the family. Also your little brother is a sweetheart. I like that kid." He told her.

"Tell me about your step-brother. From what I gather you two are close."
