Trials of the Dragon Lords

It was a sad time for all dragons and especially the dragon lords as one of there number had died leaving there son to take up the role of dragon lord of there fathers previous region, though of course the boy would need to be summoned to the Lords council chamber to formally induct in into the role. There was grumbling and rumour about about the boy Vulkan Quakewing, that he’d neglected certain important details, of the titles, though just as much there where rumour that Vulcan had actually achieved the required.

and thusly it’s would remain to be seen until the boy arrived finally arrived. Meanwhile large onyx black dragon landed unsure of why she‘d been given a summon also but the purpose would be revealed soon.

Vulkan Quakewing certainly looked the part of a Dragon Lord already, though he was quite young for one. Maybe it was the fact that his appearance echoed those of the volcanoes that were so prominent in the Empire, maybe it was just his naturally large and intimidating frame. But it couldn't be denied that, despite his wisdom, he was by far the youngest dragon to be a candidate for a Dragon Lord position in at least a few millennia.

Despite his intimidating presence, he wasn't immune to emotions. He had certainly grieved the loss of his father Ignus, who was (in his humble opinion) the greatest Dragon Lord in the region's history. But he knew there was a time to grieve, and a time to move forward and continue the dead's legacy. So he did not stop to grieve for long, before taking up the requirements to become a Dragon Lord in his father's place. But now he felt himself ready, even just as the summons came to his door.

Vulkan had an air of confidence about him as he arrived in the Empire's capital, ignoring the boos and cheers of the other dragons, most of whom were shifted as humans for the occasion. The lava dragon flexed his wings as he approached the government offices, preparing for what was to come.

the other lords ushered Vulkan inside to the large chamber where they conducted their meetings the young lord flanked by two other smaller dragons kept the crowds away from him and guided the boy forward, they didn't say anything during this just leading the boy on. the council chamber was huge large enough for each of the dragons to take their dragon form, as the dragon lords stared down from their high roosts it was an imposing presence for anyone who entered the chamber. as various different coloured dragons looked upon Vulkan. the green one Cindry spoke up first. "aaan lord Vulkan I hope you are faring well with your fathers passing, now... there are some... formalities involved with properly inducting you as a true dragon lord." they'd say with a nod each of the lords turning into the human forms for the formality after dropping form there perches it was expected that Vulkan did the same.

Vulkan Quakewing bowed out of respect for the dragons who waited for him on top of their perches. As soon as the ushers had brought him into the room, he nodded to each of the ushers, and then to the lords. When one by one, each of the lords shifted back to their human form, Vulkan became uneasy, but decided to hide it the best way he could.

"Thank you for your formalities, lord Cindry," Vulkan nodded to the green dragon who had spoken, "but I am sure they will not be necessary. After all, you know me well, if you knew my father." He resisted the suggestion to shift into his own human form.

the dragon lord looked to one another somewhat concerned by Vulkan's reluctance to follow through with their request, it was obvious that they were hiding something as for what exactly it was the lord had no idea. Cindry would sigh for a moment looking up at vulkan as he returned to his dragon form. staring at the other one with an annoyed expression. "you must understand lord Vulkan to cast aside such customs would to grant you an expectation that no others have been given we can't be playing favourites I'm sure even your father would understand" cindry would explain sounding a little bit impatient with vulkan. "now, please.. if you would be so kind as to shift to your human form for the beginning of the ceremonies lord Vulkan" Cindry would then say every other dragon lord agreeing and staring.. good ol peer pressure.

with the meeting finished it had resulted in the revelation that vulkan wasn't exactly of proper standing to be a dragon lord, for one rule often kept quiet by most was that all Dragon lords before accending to there position offical had to have a mate something that Vulkan lacked tho no lord dare mention it. instead a contrived plot was put into motion vulkan quakwing was to retrive a "soul saphhire" a glowing blue gemstone with a spark of lighting trapped in its interior, having zero magical value or anything it simply was only found in a mountain half way across the contient the stipulation being that the dragon lord must make there way there by foot no taking to the air was allowed until the gemstone was retrived even stranger was the fact they provided an old friend one Alreen who vulkan was to meet in a small village a little distance form the capital.

alreen was rather confused as to why she was here the tall woman leaning against a nearby building but she was happy that she'd see her old friend again now she was just waiting for him to show up apparently she was supposed to keep an eye on vulkan incase he tried to cheat but it seemed a little odd? oh well who wouldn't want to spend time with there favourite magic tutor again?
