The smell of the sea breeze permeated the air as Artemis stepped off the boat, Athena, his Umbreon, beside him. To anyone else, the air would smell of adventure. To Artemis, it smelled like fish and salt.

It wasn't that Artemis wasn't excited. He was. It's just that he wasn't excited to be in Vermillion City, which held no interest for him. All he cared about was Pallet Town and his internship with Professor Oak. Well, okay, that wasn't true. There was one thing in Vermillion City that interested him and that was food. It was lunch time, after all and he was feeling peckish. Of course, there was a small problem in that Vermillion City, being a port town, consisted mostly of seafood restaurants, which Artemis wasn't particularly interested in after traveling on a boat for so long.

So, with that in mind, Artemis went off to track down some food.

Igni dug the end of his boot deeper into the man beneath him.

"...What did I fucking tell you, huh? What did I say I'd do if I caught you selling those fake S.S. Anne tickets again?" Honestly, Igni was pretty pissed. More than usual. He had caught this lousy conman once already—luring the awe-stricken tourists, here to reserve tickets to the famous ship that sold at all times of year, with his own counterfeits. And in all honesty? Igni was dumbfounded that people actually fell for it. He'd say that half of this issue was because they were dumb enough to trust this shady guy and his suspiciously cheap deals offered in an alleyway. "Hey. Did you hear me, or is your head still stuck up your ass?" But no—that wasn't why Igni had beaten him into the ground. That wasn't why Igni kept the beaten conman pinned down on his back, driving his boot into his bruised chest.

The conman sputtered, unable to form any coherent sentence. And Igni raised his boot—before stomping the conman right on the bruise on his chest. And they let out a sharp, pained gasp, digging their fingernails into the alleyway.

"What. Did. I. say?" Igni hated having to repeat himself with these scumbags. They, for some reason, always thought they would get away with the things Igni told them to cut out. Thought he wouldn't notice. That he wouldn't actually follow up with his threats to beat the crap out of them. Well...here he was. Going through with it. "—Y-You!" The man gasped, finally speaking. "Y-You said...t-that you'd b-beat th—!" Igni cut them off, drilling his boot back into him. "Oh, so you remember? Then tell me, asshat. Why the hell did I find you doing it again?"

As the conman let out a mindless stream of excuses and apologies...desperate, empty words to just get Igni to stop...he idly looked outside the alleyway. Igni knew that no matter how many passerby saw them—nobody would interrupt. That was just how it was. With Pokemon matches...crowds would form, seeing them as free enterainment. But when it came down to the gritty fights, done without Pokemon? They averted their eyes. Pretended they didn't exist.

Well, he didn't blame them. In a better world, all fights could be settled through Pokemon matches. But with these scumbags...the only teacher they learnt from was pain.

Igni's focus went back to the conman underneath his boot. Right. He had been dealing with him. Igni raised his boot again, ignoring everything they had said, and—

STOMP.

...A few minutes later, Igni left the alleyway, wiping his hands clean. Money—taken. Counterfeit tickets—burnt. Conman—knocked out.

With all of that said and done, he figured he might as well go and get some lunch. Putting people in their place was a damn tiring business! And yet, right as he stepped out of the street—he bumped into someone else. Some sort of...researcher? Igni had to bite back the instinct to shove the guy away with his elbow, but he seemed like just another tourist. It was bad to get physical with them. When people did...well, things just got a bit messy. (For some reason, the officers decided that then it was something to look out for). So, instead... "—Hey—Watch where you're going...sheesh." ...Igni just let out a cold reply to the researcher he had bumped into, narrowing his eyes.

Really...what awful luck, today. But hey, dealing with that conman was probably the hardest thing he'd do today.

Probably.

Artemis hadn't been walking for more than a minute before bumping into someone. This someone did not look like the kind of person you'd want to bump into. He looked rather threatening and spoke coldly. His suspicions were further compounded when Athena gave the man a cold look. Artemis generally considered her a very good judge of character.

"I apologize." Artemis said, holding up his hands. "I did not mean to bump into you." Just then an idea struck Artemis. A terrible idea that might make one question if he really was as smart as he seemed. "Actually, it's lucky I bumped into you. I hate to bother you but I'm curious if you could point me to a restaurant that isn't dedicated to seafood."

If she could, Athena would facepalm at Artemis' terrible, ill-advised idea.

There was no sound, no flash, as Ivory Coquelicot snapped a picture of the brutish scene in one of Vermillion’s City’s alleyways. The violence reflected in the blond delinquent’s eyes and the fear from the con-man’s showed nicely from the angle with which she took the picture. She wondered if she should show the picture to a police officer…though, judging from the brief exchanged she heard…the swindler wasn’t entirely innocent. Still. Such things were best left to an officer of the law. Vigilantism and taking matters into one’s own hand to deal unlawful justice was still a crime.

Turning the other way as the blond delinquent exited the alleyway, Ivory behaved as any other normal pedestrian would, even as she took note of the blonde from the corner of her eye. He bumped into another person. Did he have a pension for picking fights?

Lifting her camera, Ivory snapped another silent picture, before she felt a tap on her shoulder. Her doppelganger held out a cone of ice cream out for her, even as it licked its own. Anyone looking at the two girls would’ve thought they were identical twins.

However, an observant person might notice that the similarities were to perfect to be natural. Not even twins were exact replicas of each other…and a pokedex would’ve given away the true identity of her clone.

“Thanks Dupi,” Ivory replied as she gratefully accepted the offered ice cream and gave it a taste. Strawberry and mango. An interesting choice.

Dupi grinned. It was a little strange seeing her exact replica look at her, but Ivory had grown used to it. She seemed to be Dupi’s favorite person to transform into. Glancing back at the blond delinquent and the person he bumped into, Ivory decided to keep an eye on the situation in case it turned violent. If it did, she fully intended to leave a copy of the images she’d taken at the nearest police station. A picture told a thousand words, after all. Her good deed for the day. Ivory wasn’t the sort to ignore what she saw in front of her eyes. Nor was she the sort to step in and intervene in what could be a potential fight.

Ivory was simply a fly on the wall…an observer that captured both beauty and truth through her lens…and the was the way she liked it.

Licking her sugary treat, the girl found a seat in the patio of a nearby restaurant to secretly watch the scene unfold, her ‘twin’ following her. Seemed the person the blond bumped into was a reasonable sort—responded exactly as she would in such a situation, minus the seafood bit. The question, of course, was whether the thug would let it slide, given the irritated expression on his face. It was somewhat exciting to watch.

Igni stared for a moment, in disbelief. This guy was asking him? For restaurant suggestions?

"...I..." Another second passed...before Igni's angered expression simmered down. He rubbed the back of his head, sighing. "...Whatever, sure. There's a nice restaurant round the corner. I was going to pick up some lunch for me and my 'Mons, anyways." ...What? It wasn't like he didn't have any semblance of self-control. Though his anger from the conman had been carried over, he wasn't going to beat him or anything just because he asked for help. And what he said wasn't untrue, either. (Besides, eating with someone else usually meant he'd be left alone. Usually.)

...But then, he did something that would shock Ivory.

He took out a Pokeball, and tossed it up in the air...—only for a Cleffa to be released. Princess shot out of the Pokeball, and right into his arm—keeping herself snug in its grasp like a plushie. In fact, she looked like exactly like a plushie: small...cute...fluffy...—why did this thug, who had just beaten a man into submission a few minutes earlier, have a Cleffa?! Of course, one would think Igni was actually an adorer of cute Pokemon. A twist of the century. At least...if Ivory hadn't seen the menacing Typhlosion Igni had used earlier to beat the Conman's own Pokemon back. Nonetheless, Igni poked Princess's fluffy cheek after catching the Pokeball...his former anger now just a shadow on his face. "...She eats like a monster. Baby Pokemon are just like that, I s'ppose." Though something told Artemis that if he said anything about it, he'd instantly revert back to how he was earlier. Igni turned around—the rest of his Pokemon were a little too rowdy for the Restaurant. Today, he'd just have a calming lunch with Princess. "...C'mon. They tend to serve locals faster, so I'll go with ya." At least, hopefully calming.

With that...he head straight for the patio Ivory was at, motioning for Artemis to follow. And he took a seat at an empty table...just a little bit away from Ivory herself. He gave her a little glance, of course. But he seemed to make out the Ditto-Clone easily, and just let her be, sitting down himself.

...Of course Igni could interact with people normally. He wasn't a psychopath.

[Location: Route 7] [Mentions: N/A] [Interactions: N/A]

The chirping of Pidgeys and the cawing of Spearows could be heard echoing among the tree tops; their symphony of calls accompanied by the rustling of bushes. Across the beaten path, Jay had noticed a Raticate leading a platoon of Rattata into a thick bush the purple minions each carrying a berry of their own as they more than likely returned to their little nest deeper into the woods. Despite the commotion of activity from the local pokemon, Jay felt at peace as he tilted his head skyward and took in the morning sun. A gentle breeze ruffled his hair as the accompaniment of cicada's hidden among the lush foliage began to sing all around the space in which Jay presently found himself.

Route 7, located between Celadon and Saffron city; two cities renowned for their hustle and bustle of daily life though for vastly different reasons. To his left lay Celadon, a town known for its nightlife as well as its megastore and to his right lay Saffron, the headquarters for the once domineering company 'Silph Co' and probably the most 'business' oriented city among those located in Kanto. Jay to no ones surprise had been in Celadon City for the last couple days, the dark haired boy renting a room at an Inn in the southeast part of the city as he went about looking for a new speaker as well as other necessaries for the journey. Of course, he had found what he was looking for within the first day thanks to the famous Department store having literally almost anything a trainer could ever need or want and at a reasonable price. Now his time was spent honing his skills, Jay alongside his pokemon presently practicing in the wilderness between the two big cities as they perfected their craft, at least some of them.

Leaning against the stump of a large oak tree, Danza had long since fallen asleep; the Lombre a victim to slumbers grasp as the tranquillity of their surrounding had made it easy for him to doze off, despite the noise of Jay, Ace and Capo's training. Echo wasn't any better as the little Noibat hid in the foliage above, the bat like pokemon clinging to one of the bigger branches with both of its feet as it held a cheri berry between both hands. Neither Echo nor Danza were the type to fully engross themselves in group training, the duo clearly lacking the level of motivation that the trio seemed to posess in spades. Though when push came to shove, Jay did know that he could rely on them putting in 100%.

Ace and Capo on the other hand were in mid battle, though whether it was a pokemon fight or a dance off was hard to tell as both pokemon engaged one another with a flurry of movements, the two agile individuals mixing in unorthodox spins and flips as they sparred. though it was quite evident that Capo did have an edge in this regard, the pokemons natural capoeira like movements being heavily incorporated in his style of dance and battle.

Roughly an hour had passed since Jay and his pokemon had started their routine and it was at this point that things had begun to slow down for the group; Ace and Capo now resting against one another as they caught their breath. Danza was fast asleep, sprawled on the floor like some drunkard; while Echo hung precariously from the tree branch with just one foot clung to the underside whilst the other held a collection of berry stems. By now Jay too had worked up a sweat and had slowed down quite substantially; the fuel tank running on low and the stomach beginning to rumble.

"Alright guys.. thats enough for the morning. Lets call it a day and return to the Inn for a quick shower and check out. I'd rather not be late for the shuttle bus heading to Vermillion. The Poke' Fan club is having some big event and I'm hoping to get some information about Lance" spoke Jay as he pulled out three pokeballs, a red light illuminating from all three of them as Danza, Echo and Capo were withrawn. Ace however had remained, the rabbit pokemon jumping to his feet as he ran over to Jay.

"If we are lucky, we might learn a trick or two to becoming the champ"

With that said, Jay and Ace made their way back to the Celadon Inn to freshen up, before catching the shuttle to Vermillion.

At the man's angry expression, Athena, ironically the brains of the operation, made to tug Artemis away by the pant leg. Before she could get her mouth onto it, though, the man's expression, well, it didn't soften but it got less angry. Still pretty angry, though. Because the man agreed to help Artemis out, Athena decided not to do anything for now, but she still didn't trust him.

"Thank you very much." Artemis said.

He followed the man to the restaurant and took a seat. because this restaurant was very convenient there was a menu on the table already. Before Artemis could even pick up the menu, nets sprang from seemingly out of nowhere and enveloped every Pokemon in the vicinity, including Athena. The nets dragged the Pokemon upwards and out of reach.

"Athena!" Artemis shouted, holding his hand out uselessly.

"Umbree!" Athena shouted.

Artemis followed Athena's path with his eyes and saw that the nets had all stemmed from a hot air balloon in the shape of a Kantonese Meowth head.

"Prepare for trouble!" A female voice shouted.

"And make it double." A male voice shouted.

A man and a woman with bizarre hair descended from the hot air balloon on ropes. The man had chin length blue hair while the woman had pink hair in a weird curve that seemed to stay on the right side of her head no matter which way she turned.

"To protect the world from devastation!" The woman shouted.

"To unite all people within our nation!" The man shouted.

"To denounce the evils of truth and love!"

"To extend our reach to the stars above!"

"Jessie!"

"And James!"

"Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light!"

"Surrender now or prepare for a fight!"

As the two Team Rocket members touched down, a Meowth leaped from the balloon and, like all good Meowth, landed on his feet.

"Meowth! That's right!"

Out of nowhere, a Wobbuffet appeared.

"Wobbuffet!"

"Ah, I just love tourist season, don't you!" James said.

"Yes, there are so many exotic Pokemon to see... and steal!" Jessie said with a maniacal laugh.

Artemis stared in shock. But not for the reasons he should have been. "Did that Meowth just talk!? That's amazing! How did you learn to do that!"

Meowth sighed. "Yeah, yeah, get it out of your system."

Ivory found herself ceaselessly pressing the capture button on her digital travel camera as a unique sequence of events unfolded before her eyes. The Cleffa. The talking Meowth. Team Rocket. One was a paragon of cute-ness to add to her pokemon photo album. The other unique enough to break all sense of logic. It was so unique, in fact, that Ivory swapped her camera to video mode just to record Meowth’s voice…

…and document further doings of the Neo Team Rocket for Valerie.

To think that she would encounter the subject she was asked to look into so soon—in the port city of Vermillion no less. It didn’t make any sense to Ivory that pokemon thieves would announce their true name to the public in such a manner, so she could only assume that ‘Jessie’, ‘James’, and ‘Meowth’ were aliases of some sort. Not that people always operated on logic. Nor pokemon. Even Dupi, who could restructure his own DNA to obtain the brain and vocal cords of humans, took months of training to learn human words and seemed to prefer poke-speech.

Yet Meowth, who likely couldn’t do what Dupi does, spoke perfectly. It was either a testament to the pokemon’s training or one of the many mysteries of the pokemon world. Either way, there was no denying the facts reflected through her lens. Ivory might’ve stayed back in the sidelines to watch the events unfold if she had not seen the fear and confusion of some of the pokemon Team Rocket captured. She couldn’t allow Team Rocket treat pokemon in such a manner any more than she would allow injustices to remain in the dark.

450
Thefore, Ivory passed Dupi her partially eaten ice cream as she reached into the inside pocket of her cardigan and drew out a tiny pokeball, de-shrinking it before releasing the pokemon inside. In a flash of red, a fox-like pokemon with thick, luxurious golden-white fur appeared beside Ivory. “Can I request your help in preventing that Meowth-shaped balloon from escaping with all the pokemon, Kuzunoha?”

Of course

Kuzunoha didn’t take long to get a grasp of the situation. Nine golden-white tails unfurled as the fox pokemon’s red eyes glowed blue, causing the hot-air balloon Jessie, James, and Meowth dropped from to be surrounded by a similar color. So long as it was bound within Kuzunoha’s psychic, it wouldn’t be able to make its getaway easily. On the contrary, Team Rocket’s floating vehicle started to steadily descend as the wisest of Ivory’s pokemon team began dragging the large balloon towards the ground.

Ivory looked to Dupi. “You too, Dupi. Kuzunoha will need your help to free all of the captured pokemon.”

"Rodger!"
Tossing the remainder of the two ice cream cones quickly into its mouth, Ivory’s clone saluted before dropping to all fours as it morphed into an exact replica of Kuzunoha. Since Ivory had no intention of surrendering, it seemed like they would have to fight…at least if Team Rocket’s strange introduction as anything to go by. Ivory had no idea how Team Rocket stacked against the few gym leaders she'd challenged, and managed to scrape a win, but she didn't intend to let down her guard. The human girl raised her camera, which now acted as a video recorder, as Dupi stepped protectively in front of its trainer and Kuzunoha, who was focusing on bringing down the balloon.

Looking to meowth, Dupi let whining sound which—while not distinguishable to human ears—translated to You guys are pretty funny~How about you let those pokemon go and we won’t have to fight?'

Music Box: Encounter!Team Rocket Admins Jessie & James

When Ivory and her Pokemon threatened them, Team Rocket just laughed.

"Hah! We've fought tougher twerps than you!" Jessie shouted. She took out a Pokeball and tossed it. "Go! Arbok!" As was to be expected, an Arbok materialized from the ball.

"Arbok!" The Arbok hissed.

Artemis wasn't sure what to do. On one hand, he wasn't exactly a great Pokemon battler. On the other hand, he couldn't just let these bastards take Athena. On the third hand, none of Athena's moves were particularly useful in this situation and he didn't have any other Pokemon.

One of the Pokemon in the net, a Pikachu, tried to use an electric type move, Thunder Shock from the look of it, and failed to do anything. James laughed.

"Did you think we wouldn't insulate our nets against electric rats! No, we learn from our mistakes!"

Hmm. It may have failed, but Artemis thought that Pikachu had the right idea. Maybe if Athena were to use a similar move. Not Shadow Ball or Quick Attack, obviously. And Confuse Ray was right out. That only left Stored Power. Not the strongest move, especially considering that Athena didn't know any buffing moves, but it might just work.

"Athena!" He shouted to his Umbreon. "Use Stored Power!"

Athena nodded. Well, as much as she could nod while trapped in a net.

"Umbree... on!" She shouted. She emitted purple psychic energy that unknit the net. Athena burst out of the net and gracefully landed on her feet. She nonchalantly trotted over to Artemis' side. Artemis rubbed her head which, for them, was the equivalent of a hug.

"Hey!" James shouted. "We payed a lot of money for those nets!" He took out a Pokeball. "You'll pay for that! Literally! Go, Weezing!" He threw the Pokeball and out popped a Kantonese Weezing.

"Weezing."

The first few moments, Igni couldn't even register what was happening. He didn't even feel mad. Just...a mix of shocked and confused. Their dramatic speech...capturing all of their Pokemon via nets...and a talking Meowth. How could Igni possibly not need a few seconds to adjust to what was happening?

Then, it finally registered in his brain that they had taken Princess. That Princess was writhing in her net, with no moves that could possibly help her.

And then, anger finally flashed across his face once more. "...You bastards. I swear to the legendaries above, I'll...!"

Igni slammed his fist into the table! But...! "...I'll...I'll...Tch!" His expression knit into an expression of frustration! "...I can't do anything about the nets with my own Pokemon...!" Igni practically growled it out...but knew it was true. Ember? They would burn all the Pokemon involved. Bruno? He couldn't reach them with his moves. Howler? What would Igni do, throw the poor Houndour at them? No—Igni couldn't let his anger, his ego, get in the way here. He had to accept that no matter how badly he wanted to give these Team Rocket members a beat-down...Igni couldn't. No, not without hurting someone else. Not without making more problems. So, instead... "Oi, you two!" ...Igni shouted to the two trainers around him! To the boy who he had picked up, and to the girl at the nearby table. "Take care of opening up the nets! I'll provide cover for you two...so get them out, alright?!"

Thumbing his own Pokeball...Igni tossed one up into the air in front of the Weezing, letting out its battle-eager inhabitant! With two heavy thumps...Bruno landed on his feet, cracking it's knuckles. There was a hint of a dangerous gleam in the Machoke's eyes...not the violent gleam Igni had when dealing with the dregs of the street; nor the wild gleam Ember held when lost all control. The Machoke looked happy to be let out for this. Happy to be given another Pokemon Battle. It thumped its fists together...before putting them out, challenging the Weezing and Arbok.

"Bruno! Keep them busy, and protect the other trainers!" Igni outstretched his hand, Bruno letting out a dutiful nod in response! But it was a two on one...not something Igni thought he could really win. But these Pokemon were just a little too dangerous for Howler to take. And while Igni's other hand thumbed Ember's Pokeball...no. Not yet, he decided. Instead, Igni decidedto accept whatever loss these two Pokemon might dish out. If it was enough to get these Pokemon out...get Princess back...

...Well, he'd accept any amount of blows to his dignity. Bruno stood at the ready, taking the defensive against the two other Pokemon—waiting for their first moves.

Take care of opening the nets? How was Artemis supposed to do that. Athena didn't have any moves that were useful in this situation. If only he had his chemistry kit. He had a few poisons in there that could have melted through the ropes. But alas, they wouldn't let him take it on the boat. All he had left of it was a few specimen vials.

He shook his head. He couldn't think like that. He was a genius and he knew it. He could figure this out. He just had to put his brain to work.

He looked around. There had to be something here that was useful. Alas, there was nothing.

Meanwhile, Team Rocket was beginning their assult.

"Arbok! Use wrap!" Jessie shouted. The Arbok lunged at the Machoke, attempting to wrap its scaly body around it.

"Weezing! Use smog!" James shouted. His Weezing obliged, exhaling a massive cloud of gas. Artemis jumped backwards to avoid it, pulling Athena with him. Unfortunately, Athena inhaled a bit of the smog before Artemis could fully grab her. She coughed a bit.

"Athena!" Artemis shouted. "Are you okay."

"Umbree." Athena said resolutely. Artemis kneeled down and checked her over. Athena seemed a bit shaky but was otherwise fine and there was no sign of poison. Good since he had left his antidotes with his chemistry kit and, though normally Athena's synchronize would give the opposing Pokemon the same status condition as her, poison types like Weezing were immune to poison.

Artemis stood up and put on a determined expression. Nobody got away with hurting, or even attempting to hurt, Athena. He looked over at the man who was standing against Team Rocket.

"I apologize for going against your orders." He said politely. "But I'm afraid that I am unable to cut the other Pokemon free. I hope you don't mind if I join the battle instead." He clenched his fist. "Alright, Athena." He whispered to his best friend. Then he raised his voice and pointed at the Weezing. "Use Shadow Ball!"

Athena planted her feet firmly on the ground and opened her mouth. A black ball of energy formed in front of her.

"Umbreeeee... on!" She shouted.

She launched the Shadow Ball at the Weezing, scoring a direct hit.

"Weezing!" The Weezing shouted in pain. Artemis gave a small smile. He could understand why Pokemon Trainers loved fighting so much. Not that he'd want to do it on a regular basis. It still wasn't his thing.

It had been by pure luck that Jay and Ace had managed to catch their bus on time, the pair of them running through the city of Celadon like a pair of madmen as they jumped, leaped, ducked and rolled their way towards the station. Agile in their movements, the duo had sprinted through the various obstacles using whatever means at their disposal, even if it looked absolutely manic and impeded upon the other civilians presently wandering through the streets. For an unfortunate couple turning the corner, the rushing blur that was Jay and Ace had managed to catch them completely off guard. Reacting on pure instinct and shock, the man had squeezed his hand tightly to the point where the lid on his cup of coffee had come off and the contents of the hot beverage had made its way onto his office attire; a howl born of pain and anger echoed behind the rushing duo as the man tore of his shirt and tossed it to the ground.

It was an unfortunate accident, though not something that would cause Jay and Ace to falter in their endeavour as they leap frogged a guard rail and ran across the road. Their antics however caused two cars and a garbage truck to screech to a halt as they avoided running over the duo so enamoured by their goal that they'd been reckless and unaware of the oncoming traffic; or the traffic light that was a few meters down the road.

It was a solid 10 if not 15 minutes before Jay and Ace finally arrived at the bus station, the huffing and puffing pair just about making it on time, though it was largely thanks to the driver checking the validity of the tickets before allowing the other passengers on. Without a doubt, lady luck had been shining upon the duo as they finally boarded , taking a seat towards the back end of the bus.
