"It is more useful to appeal against a thunderstorm as against the terrible hardships of war. War is cruelty, its glory all moonshine. It is only those who have neither taken a life nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, vengeance and desolation. War is hell."
-Quote attributed to Hiruzen Sautobi, circa Second Shinobi World War
The war bears the scars of the Third Shinobi World War. Valleys carved by torrents of flame or surging water, mountains reduced to sand by buffeting winds, forests burns to ash and lakes dried to salt, all physical marks dancing a counterpoint to the effects on the people left standing in the aftermath of destruction. Children who were forced to the battlefield along with every friend they've ever had grow into adulthood alone. From Captains to Kage, leaders remember the weight of lives that pressed upon their shoulders with every sign of the brush. Great derelict factories rust with no more war to fuel, and fields are steadfastly replanted after being demolished and salted with blood. The nations of the world have promised that the Third War will be the Last War, the final great conflict fought on battlefields rather than around tables, but none who have survived the ninja world long enough to remember the fields of conflict are naive enough to believe that portent reliable. A new generation is coming to power, born as the tides of war receded back into the periphery or having grown up among strife and violence, and their inheritance is a future that perhaps cannot take another great blow. They are the driving forces of nations forever unwilling to compromise. What path will they take, looking for a brighter future?
Greetings and belated happy holidays, prospective player! Welcome to my attempt at a Naruto RP. In this RP, players will take on the role of the best and brightest of the Leaf Village twelve years after the Third Great Ninja War has come to a close. Leaders, child prodigies, tailed beat containers, the heads of clans, the rich, the connected, the inheritors of ancient legacies or the firebrand revolutionaries, or any mix of the above. In this RP, the Third War lasted five years longer than it did in canon: a surprise suicide attack on the Leaf by the container of the Four-Tailed Beast turned the tide of the war, earning operational initiative and killing, among many others, the Third Hokage and the Yellow Flash. This escalation of the war, beginning with the use of Tailed Beasts as suicide weapons, prompted a war of unprecedented cruelty and desperation. There were no clear winners or losers, though each nation decided that it had come out the victor, all thinking they stood alone triumphant among the vanquished. In truth, all were too tired to continue fighting, none had the capability to make any meaningful change: no more blood could buy a different peace, and so a treaty was signed.
Now, after ten years of war and twelve years of unsteady peace, a new generation of leadership has taken control of the village, and a new host of heroes have come of age, ready to shape the future and protect what they value most. This RP will focus on the very pinnacle of ninja existence, and so will deal with large-scale conflict, of shadow wars and dreadful battles, of politics and government and the tangled relationships between those with heavy obligations. It will be an RP with a large degree of player freedom, especially over the character of the Leaf Village, and perhaps most useful it is an RP with almost no restrictions on what characters can be made, so long as they function well in the narrative. The world is a very different place after this terrible war, and few familiar faces still exist: the world can easily accommodate the outlandish or unusual, brilliant or transgressive, and the RP is ready to watch their stories burn themselves onto the pages of history.
(The boring part: good grammar, spelling and syntax required. Post length minimum sits somewhere in the region of two hundred words, though this is by no means a hard and fast rule. Please be courteous and put the overall story before any individual character, we're here to tell a collaborative narrative after all. Feel free to ask questions and voice concerns, and feel free to make suggestions or ask for explanations if you think there's a chance of making the RP even better. I'm more than happy to have a very large group for this one, the narrative can accommodate a large number of PCs: right now there are no limits on how many people can join, but for right now the limit is one character. This limit may, and probably will, change later. Thanks for reading!)
