The Magnificent Manbeard
My idea for this is to respin the Ninja Turtles as mutated humans. They look completely human, but have been heavily mutated to have enhanced strength, stamina, agility, and physical senses. Their flesh heals several times faster than normal and is extremely durable. I will play Splinter and Leonardo for this RP.
Splinter in the nickname used by Hamato Yoshi, a Ninja Master and former member of the Foot. In his days, the Foot was a radical vigilante group determined to stomp out crime and corruption from the streets of Tokyo through information gathering, blackmail, corporate espionage, and giving the beat down to thugs and gangsters. However, when Oroku Nagi became the new Grand Master, he began shifting the clan's focus towards the benefit of his family's company, Oroku Technologies, Inc. Yoshi began to have doubts about the Foot's future as it abandoned it's vigilante roots and forged alliances with Yakuza family heads and corrupt politicians.
The final straw for Yoshi was when he discovered a secret government lab financed by Oroku Nagi and staffed with Foot security guards. They were growing genetically-engineered human mutants in artificial wombs using DNA taken from multiple ethnic sources. After discovering this, Yoshi and several other defectors broke into the lab and tried to escape with the artificial wombs stacked in duffel bags. Nagi showed up and forced Yoshi to dual him, resulting in the Grand Master's death.
The defectors fled Japan and scattered around the world, each taking with them one or more wombs. Yoshi had a total of four in his duffel bag and eventually arrived in New York City, where he made a camp in an abandoned subway tunnel. He collected scrap metal and located a few food banks that did not require photo ID to help them survive, as well as scavenging from dumpsters and junkyards.
By the time the first womb was ready to deliver, Yoshi had constructed a small hut within the tunnel out of plywood, furnishing it with an old patio table and chairs and a used queen mattress. The first mutant baby was born from the artificial womb, whom Yoshi named Leonardo. He himself had begun going by "Splinter" to conceal his true identity. Over the next few months, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo were also born.
Back in Japan, Nagi's younger sibling, Oroku Saki, inherited his brother's empire and became obsessed with finding and killing Hamato Yoshi. He pushed his company's influence even further, securing manufacturing contracts for biotech, weapons, and satellites from multiple governments around the world. He attained many of these by using the Foot to dig up dirt on his corporate and political rivals and then blackmailing them into a deal.
Fast forward a couple years, and Yoshi has left behind the plywood hut after setting up a lair inside an old forgotten speakeasy from the 1920s. The bar sat beneath an abandoned antique shop, where a hidden stairway behind a book case in one of the offices led down to the secret basement. Another doorway provided access to the sewers, which was used as a quick escape by customers of the speakeasy in case of police raids. It was through this door that Yoshi discovered the old bar.
Fast forward to 2017, and the four boys are now 15. Once they were old enough to be left alone, Splinter had started taking odd jobs here and there, wherever he could work under the table without having to prove he was undocumented. Painting, construction, throwing freight -- he only worked for straight cash and took whatever jobs he could get. This enabled him to extensively remodel the lair to have a living room, kitchen, dining room, five bedrooms, bathrooms, a training dojo, and a large garage that opened into the sewer, concealed behind a brick garage door that blended into the wall around it. Once Donatello was old enough to begin thinking critically, he also helped design some of the lair's improvements.
The antique shop had been without power for decades, but the restaurant next door to it was quite active. They were able to tap into the electricity from the restaurant to power the lair, running wires from the diner's basement electrical room, which was on the other side of the speakeasy's east wall. They had sneaked into the diner's basement and set up the wires through the wall in a way that kept them hidden from anyone who might be down in the electrical room.
In 2017, Splinter doesn't work as much anymore, his age becoming a factor. The four boys have started collecting scrap metal and scavenging in junkyards on their own recently, earning enough to get all five of them prepaid smartphones. They also replaced their old tube television sets with flat screens, leeching cable and internet off the diner next door.
For the arc that gets the story moving, I'm thinking April O'Neil inherits the antique shop from her deceased Uncle Augie, and she decides to remodel and reopen it. During the renovations, she discovers the stairway to the lair, and is shocked to see an old Japanese man and four teenagers living down there. Scared at first, but eventually accepting, April becomes a close friend. She agrees to let them keep living in the lair and even turns on the power for the shop and basement and sets up cable and internet so that they can stop borrowing it from the diner next door. In exchange for this, they assist her in the remodeling.
So I'm thinking we have a total of at least six writers. I will do Splinter and Leo, and need people to play Donnie, Mickey, Raph, April, and Casey Jones. Our first major antagonists will be the Purple Dragons street gang, but eventually we draw the attention of Oroku Saki and the Foot. Anyone interested?
