Euraphus Manor
1688871651669.png

The morning was a very adequate one for Dione Euraphus as she was looking through her books of Runecraft, the morning sun shined through her bedroom and lit up her glorious room. The beauty of such a room that most people dream of having, others not having the imagination to acquire. While she was deep in her studies, there was the faint sound of footsteps approaching before a quiet knock was on her door. " Uh, my lady, Ser Alvingard is here to present an invitation for you. " Ser Alvingard is the head of the house's security team. It was quite unusual of him to personally see to giving an invitation to her. Usually, the handmaid Alaaya would see to giving them to Dione, who was the handmaiden knocking currently. " He says it concerns your stonemason friend Harry Dougherty, my lady. " While Harry was a stonemason and his family ran a business and didn't work on orders themselves anymore, it was a strange thing to refer to him as such. Businessman was more like it.

" He has chosen a... Exotic... Escort to take you to his meeting spot. " Exotic was a term used for people of different races. It was sometimes forgetful that people, especially those in nobility or worked with nobility looked down upon other races that weren't human. Or even of different class, that included her helpful handmaiden, Alaaya. There was the sound of armor clinking, like someone took a step forward, then the faint sound of a throat clearing before a deep voice spoke of a man. " Yes, Lady Dione, we have a... Guest waiting for you at the front gate. I hold a invitation from your 'friend' here with me if you want to take a look. " Of course, some within Dione's family and even those that worked for them looked down upon the Doughtery House, mainly because they weren't of nobility and worked their way up to where they are at now. They hold some power although don't use it much, they mainly continue to push their businesses out and expand. While their works are greatly looked up to and demanded, some nobility still think they should stay lower class. This was the life in Eldoria.

Arris Greenwood
IMG_3271.jpeg

Arris walked through the streets of Eldoria, trying to keep his pet dragon Alex in his coat. This land was unfamiliar, and he didn’t know if this kingdom like many others feared dragons. Arris was an odd sight, an elf in worn attire with some subtle dried blood on his cloak. He had little scars on his body, seeing as he hadn’t fought anyone since his escape from the Vault, which was… Some time ago. The attire these people wore was strange but he supposed that was due to the different lands culture. He marveled at the strange technology, deciding to bring some of it to his realm when he returned.

Arris walked toward a single man in armor, not recognizing the strange accent and his speech. With a little struggling, Arris managed to figure out where the nearest Inn is at.

Arris walked into the tavern, stepping toward a bored host as he counted gold coins he had taken from the drunken men who had come hours ago. Upon seeing the stranger, the man pointed to a sign, 5 Gold A room. Arris sighed, wondering if he could head back to the forest and sleep there instead of staying in an overpriced room.

Arris has slept on stone floors for what he could guess was the last week or so, so he lowered his hood and dropped five gold pieces from his sack of gold. The owners eyes widened as he saw the faint coins, not recognizing the currency that almost tripled the size of the cities own; but upon seeing the pointed ears of the elven traveler, the innkeepers face went sour. “10 Gold pieces for a room.” He said with a smirk “No other Inn would accept your kind.” Arris had a sudden urge to bash the man’s skull in with his own gold pieces, which he supposed was due too his confinement, then again he had only spent a week there.

It must had been bad dwarf meat. Arris shook his head “I’m sure I can find someone who will take my gold.” Arris said before picking up the sack of gold. The innkeeper grabbed his arm, “Seven gold and you get my best room and a drink.” Arris sighed and returned the gold with the extra before walking towards the bar, happy to see a fellow elf manning the bar.

Ardis eyed the selection, choosing a Elf Wine with a name he couldn’t remember, after a second he recognized the family name of Grimwire, a family that had begun selling and preparing wine around a month ago. The elf woman handed Arris a glass that he slowly drank from as the nearby drunken men laughed. “Ive never heard of a Elf beggar being able to afford their own kinsman’s drinks, perhaps he stole it all.” One man said before laughing as the elven woman brought a tray of dwarven beer to the group. The man who had insulted arris tripped the woman, making her fall and and herself with the cheep beer, the shattered glasses cutting her.

Arris rushed forward, helping the woman up as the innkeeper yelled at her “You better pay for the drinks and those glasses or you’ll be on the streets Lersan.” Arris glared at the laughing men as he handed the woman five gold pieces for her troubles and to pay for the damages. The men went silent as they saw Arris’s sack of gold “I think we should turn in this Elf Theif and keep his stolen goods, I swear I have been missing some gold.” O e man said as he stumbled forward, drawing a knife and his mates followed his actions.

Arris stared at the man, before throwing a dagger at him, making him yell and duck. “The fool can’t even throw that dagger when I’m standing a breath away.” He said before erupting in cackles. Arris hard this distraction, notching an arrow before firing into the man’s leg. The man’s clutched his leg, before Eddie charged forward, punching him hard enough to make home fall backward and slam his head on the floor, knocking him out for the time being. The man’s comrades where nervous but after a moment they charged forward.

Arris made quick work, leaving little damage as he walked through the unconscious men and retrieved the arrows and his dagger. Alex okay fully chewed on a hand, before a group of soldiers ran inside “Yes, that’s the one who stole my gold! And look, he injured my patrons.” Arris realized he was outnumbered lowering his weapons as the soldiers roughly took him away while giving the barkeep Arris’s gold, maybe he would come back when he explained the situation with the constable and beat the man to death with the stolen gold, or maybe drown him in a barrel of his own cheep beer. Arris was confused why this thoughts where in his perfectly sane head as he was dragged away by the soldiers.

'Exotic?' Dione found herself momentarily taken aback. Although not an entirely unfamiliar term, it was seldom used in her presence and in most contexts, reserved only for describing those of different races. It couldn't be said that such diversity was a common thing within the walls of Eldoria, a city built exclusively for humans, a city whose foundations had been meticulously designed with no consideration for beings of an "exotic" nature. So, this was an unusual surprise, to say the least, leaving her uncertain about any potential implications or consequences. "Is that so?" She spoke out, at last, her voice maintaining a moderate volume that ensured audibility without crossing the boundaries of the politeness which had been so deeply ingrained within her being.

Dione's bedroom emanated an exquisite sense of refinement. Soft, warm lighting bathes the room, casting a gentle glow. The walls were adorned with richly patterned tapestries depicting scenes of mythical creatures and ancient legends. and the color palette of her bedroom harmoniously blended muted tones and regal hues, with soft shades of lavender, ivory, and silver dominating.

The furnishings in Dione's bedroom were thoughtfully chosen to reflect her taste and provide comfort. A luxurious four-poster bed, adorned with sheer, flowing curtains, stood as the centerpiece of the room. Its intricately carved bedframe showcasing the impeccable craftsmanship of House Euraphus. Adjacent to her bed, the cozy sitting area in which she was sitting at, invited relaxation and contemplation with two plush armchairs and a small table. In one corner, her writing desk, adorned with nuanced designs, was equipped with elegant quills and inkwells, a dedicated space for Dione to pursue her Runescribing and engage in personal correspondence, which she often did.

Her room, of course, bore personal touches and cherished artifacts. A bookshelf lines one wall, filled with ancient tomes, spellbooks, and volumes on rune magic. On her vanity table, ornate jewelry boxes safeguard treasured heirlooms and precious gemstones, most gifts from her father. Family portraits and intricate tapestry weavings depicting the history of House Euraphus grace the walls alongside the depictions of mythos, serving as constant reminders of her noble lineage and the weight of the legacy she carried on her shoulders. Lastly, Dione's bedroom offers a breathtaking view of the picturesque gardens surrounding Euraphus Manor, adding to the overall charm of her space.

Dione couldn't help but wonder about Harry's motives. Why would he send an 'exotic' escort for her, knowing the sort of reputation such a people had within Eldoria? Was it some kind of unusual test? Perhaps he wanted to gauge her tolerance for people who were different from those she interacted with every day. Lost in her thoughts, she set aside the book of Runecraft she had been reading, it joining the rest of her scattered Runecraft collection on the table. She got up from the armchair and headed towards the door of her bedroom.

Upon opening it, Dione was met with the sight of both Alaaya and Ser Alvingard, who currently stood behind the former. She extended her hand toward the man, an expectant expression on her face. "I would, very much, like to see this invitation." Harry would have to explain himself, one way or another.

As Dione walked on out of her room to confront both Ser Alvingard and her handmaiden Alaaya, Alaaya had a somewhat concerned look on her face about what was going on. She was young, younger than Dione herself, she bared a beautiful light skinned face with freckles below her eyes, her eyes were a pale green, and she stood a few inches lower than Dione, although she was a bit hunched over. Her hands though were calloused and scarred for someone her age, she was a helpful maid of House Euraphus and cared for the family that resided here. Ser Alvingard stood beside her wearing a house guard's outfit, he wore light armor on his torso, shoulders, hands and feet. The rest of his body wore a silky outfit with an elegant design of roses and thorns, the color of his clothing was a dark red that bore a slight green tint to it. He wore a feathered soldier's helm on his head with red feathers extending from behind his head into opposite directions, the front of his helmet was branded with the rose insignia with thorned vines that swirled around the rose, the branding was a silver while his helmet and armor was a darkened steel.

Ser Alvingard's face was older, he was wrinkles around his eyes and nose showing his age, he had a dark trimmed beard with some white in it, he held blue eyes with an icy look to them, the look of a man who has killed and one that takes his job seriously. In one hand he held the seal letter with the Dougherty stamp on it, it was great Harry, and his family was able to get their own stamp, a cursive capital D with a hammer and chisel crossed over each other behind the D. Such a thing to do was a sign of power. In Ser Alvingard's other hand was a spear that was as tall as he was, where he held the spear there was a small buckler attached to it. " Here you are, Lady Euraphus. " The older soldier handed her the sealed letter swiftly. When Dione took the letter, on the front it read 'Lady Euraphus.' Opening the flap of the letter revealed the writing.

Dear, Lady Euraphus

I am currently awaiting you to come meet me at my family's new business that is having its grand opening, The Chisel's Idol, for an elegant breakfast at the top floor. Please do not mind the bodyguard I have hired to escort you; I have heard many good and sweet things about him. He is a rather kind individual, despite his intimidating appearance, that will make sure you arrive safely. I couldn't have someone with beauty such as yours to come to my abode without proper protection. I hope to see you there soon, My Lady.

Sincerely, Harry Dougherty

His handwriting was great as usual, better yet, his family had just opened a new business, it would explain why she hasn't seen him in nearly four months, he was most likely helping his family's business get ready. When it was clear that Dione was finished ready, Ser Alvingard cleared his throat, " My Lady, if you need to, I can escort you rather than the... Mercenary he hired to do so. It is in my job description. " The weathered soldier spoke.

In the streets of Eldoria after Arris' recklessness and unlawfulness in the small tavern he had entered, the three soldiers roughly packed him off by his bound hands that were tied behind his back, two holding him and the other walking in front, leading them. " Not even in the city for a day and already causing trouble! We don't accept those type of shenanigans here, boy! That is for backwater villages! " One of them growled into his ear. As Arris was walking, Alex would drop out of his coat and onto the ground where the soldiers stopped to look, " What in the six hells is that? " The front soldier turned to look and saw Alex, walking over and picking him up to stare at it. " Is this... A lizard? " He asked looking at Arris, " You elf types are all the same, always carrying obscure pests about. " The soldier dropped Alex picking a foot up ready to stomp on Alex when there was a man walking up from behind the soldiers, " Wait! Wait, my good soldiers! " A voice called, it sounded young.

The soldiers each turned to look at who was hailing them, Arris would notice the man was a young one, with blonde hair and weirdly piercing green eyes. " My good soldiers! This man I hired- " He was then interrupted by the guards, " This is no man. This is an elf. " One correctly coolly. The young man nodded, " Yes. This elf, I hired was supposed to deliver me the lizard for a prize at a banquet! We were going to meet at that tavern back there when he got into the load of trouble. Please, he is not from this city and doesn't understand the rules very well. Could you let him go? " The blonde boy asked. The leading guard snorted, " Just let him go? Just like that? " He asked, " That is not how it works, son. " The boy sighed deeply, " I understand. " He then walked up to the three soldiers and pulled from his jacket a bag of gold. " Would this... Loosen the binds? " He asked with a smirk. The three guards each looked at one another before turning to the blonde man, there a silence in the air for a few moments before the binds were cut off of Arris's wrists that restrained him. " Alright, just keep your 'friend' in line. Next time there won't be any negotiating. " The leading soldier growled before the bag of gold was tossed then caught. Then the three soldiers scampered off.

4509855e8460372c43abc6a62da35944.jpg

The man sighed deeply once again, " Well that is at least taken care of. You shouldn't just attack men who talk all that tongue. That is asking for trouble, especially with you being an elf, sir. " He held his hands on his hips, " Are you alright? " He asked, his voice sounded like one of a commoner while those guards sounded more privileged or fancy. Yet his attire was one of middle class, similar to what a lower noble would wear.

Eddie didn’t struggle as he was taken away, not speaking or reacting too the men at first before finally breaking “I was provoked by those fools, they attempted to rob me and turn me into crimes I didn’t commit.” Eddie said before Alex dropped from his coat, having heard the scuffling from out there.

Alex bit the soldier that picked him up while Eddie chuckled, Eddie watched as one of the soldiers tried to injure his pet, ready to attack before he heard the voice. Eddie was confused by the strangers words, eventually catching on. “Yes, I was securing lodging before I would deliver the prize.” Eddie said as he watched the interaction. Eddie of course knew minor arcane knowledge from one of his adventurer friends, a human wizard that had taught him some minor spells.

“I thank you for your help, I ran into some unsavory characters while searching for shelter. If you require my assistance I will happily provide.” Alex jumped onto his shoulder, curling up into a ball while using his small wings to cover its face.

Dione's attention swiftly shifted back to Ser Alvingard as he acknowledged her completion of reading the letter from Harry, clearing his throat to signify his readiness to address her. However, the words that escaped his lips instilled a sense of conflict within her. Although he may have spoken them casually, merely offering his assistance as the head of security for House Euraphus, her mind perceived a deeper meaning. She pondered over the implications. She possessed the authority to reject his offer, given her higher status. But what consequences would that entail? What if Ser Alvingard interpreted her refusal as an affront to his capabilities, an insult to his pride? Men of his age, she understood, held their dignity in high regard, particularly concerning their professional roles and he was a soldier. So, while he might not act upon it, who's to say that his opinion wouldn't diminish her in his eyes? Such a viewpoint could potentially permeate throughout the ranks of House Euraphus's loyal men. Then, she would truly have a problem on her hands.

After all, loyalty never failed to prove itself to be a capricious thing, lacking in perpetuity without proper cause. And to Dione's awareness, she had yet to accomplish anything of substantial worth enough to warrant the admiration or allegiance of those bound to her father, by oath. Let it be clear, she harbored no illusions that their loyalty was directed towards her as an individual; it stemmed solely from the noble blood that coursed through her veins and the prominent name she bore. To them, it was Euraphaus they revered, not Dione. To them, perhaps, she was merely the treasured daughter of the Archduke, nothing more.

Thus, Dione found herself confronted with a significant challenge. The solution seemed simple enough—accepting the offer of an escort. However, this decision brought about another concern. What should be done if she indeed chose to be escorted by Ser Alvingard, over the exotic escort which Harry had hired? Would Harry feel slighted in return? To Dione, Harry was a cherished and genuine friend, who always sought her company for meaningful discussions, a refreshing respite from the prevailing avarice and turmoil that engulfed her. Would it be him, whose opinion would be lowered of her, if she chose one over another?

Dione's thoughts never ceased to run with abandon, yet she managed to maintain an outward image of calm as she handed the letter off to Alaaya. "Please place this in the drawer of my desk. Once you're done, inform my father that I'll be going out to visit a friend," she instructed the young girl, offering a faint smile. With that, Dione moved past both of them with ease, signaling for Ser Alvingard to accompany her. "I shall see for myself, the exoticism of this escort, then I shall make my decision, Ser Alvingard." She could only hope, the decision would be an easy one to make.

As both Ser Alvingard and the somewhat nervous Alaaya waited for an answer from Dione. Her words brought the young handmaiden to attention as she gently took the envelope that Dione had given her, being careful to not tear it. " Yes, my lady. I'll do so at once. " She bowed deeply then quickly slipped into her room when Dione ended up leaving, she walked out after Dione and closed her door gently before quickly walking off while picking her maiden dress to walk faster. Ser Alvingard looked a bit unhappy with what Dione suggested and there was a hint of it in his voice. " As you wish, my lady. Let's see this mercenary and you'll change your mind. " Alvingard said in a near guaranteed attitude.

As Ser Alvingard led Dione through their manor and to the entrance, a few more soldiers were posted up which was also strange due to there usually only being at least six with two inside to alert the rest of the guards within the manor. This time there was about ten to eleven waiting near the entrance. " Move along, the lady of the manor is here! " Alvingard barked with sharpness in his voice. This caused the guards to quickly come to attention and man their stations. As both Dione and Alvingard came to the doors of the manor and opened it to step outside. There would be a massive figure awaiting them with his hands in front of his body, he was standing at seven feet and two inches as he looked down at the two-approaching people. The massive Beastman was wearing a weathered leather tunic that looked like it barely fit along with leather pants and hand wrappings on his hands.

He bowed to both Dione and Alvingard as he opened his mouth. " GORT GORT GORT. " He had a deep voice while he took out another note from a small bag he had on his hip. He then held his hand out to Dione, the parchment had writing on it that said "Dione" in great handwriting. This caused Alvingard to step forward with his spear up at Gort who stopped moving. " Back off, beast! You do not approach the young lady. " Alvingard growled with venom. This caused the being known as Gort to stop moving and look at Alvingard, although his face was somewhat hard to read with him being a beastman and having all that fur. " GORT GORT. GORT GOOOORT. " The beast explained. It was impossible to understand him. Even Alvingard didn't understand it. " Quiet beast. " Alvingard growled, " Tophas. Get out here. " He called to someone in the doorway, there was the sound of moving armor. " Yes sir! " A young man asked with a hint of nervousness when seeing the massive beast in front of the Euraphus Manor.

Gort
1689740047079.png

" Grab the letter and hand it to Lady Euraphus. " Alvingard commanded while he still held his spear up at Gort who didn't dare move a muscle. The guard hesitated for a moment before he walked up to Gort, and with shaky hands, took the letter and handed it to Dione. Gort then slowly stood up straight and made sure not to make sudden movements. " GORT GORT. " The beastman spoke again, but this time it sounded a bit more... Clear? It sounded like he was saying something akin to 'I'm sorry.'

But except the note that Dione received wasn't a letter, but a piece of paper with some writing on it that looked, honestly. Crude. But it was clear that this writing was Gort's writing with how terrible it was. It was easy to read though luckily. It stated the following.

" Good day, Lady Euraphus. I am Gort, a beastman from Khantor that left to explore the Pact to make money for my family. Your friend, Harry Dougherty taught me how to right basic writing, I have been able to understand it from my own family.

I figured I would write to show you I am not like the beastmen from Khantor. I am different from how they act and are seen. I am trained as a warrior to protect and fight is necessary. Harry has been a wonderful client and he told me that your beauty was unmatched and he was write. While Elderia is a very peaceful town that likes to talk rather than fight, I will still take my responsibility serious when I guide you to Harry. He is making a big breakfast and would like you there.
"

Gort would stand there awaiting a answer from Dione.

1689733468708.png

" I would like your help. Your brashness may be some use to me. But you must control yourself if you are to work for me, I cannot have my name sullied because you decided to fight. This city doesn't fight with fists or swords, they fight with words and documents. A more dangerous way of fighting in some ways. " The man spoke as he held his hand out for Arris to shake. " My name is Harry Dougherty. It is good to meet you. " He held a kind smile on his face with his strange green eyes staring into his. " I hope we can work well together. But for now, we can't speak here. It doesn't look like it but there are many ears listening currently. Come with me. "

Harry turned around as he touched a broach on his neck and there was a sudden weird shift about Harry, his clothes changed to a appearance similar to a soldier's uniform. When he turned to look at Arris, he was a completely different person. " Do not be alarmed. It is a enchantment, a illusion. It is to protect my identity. " He whispered, even his voice was different. His face was much older and uglier, like a grouchy old man. Arris would notice his broach on his neck had a strange reflection to it. " I have a friend coming to meet me soon at my place, so we best get this line of business situated beforehand. "

As Harry led Arris away from their current location and further down into the less... Polished side of Eldoria, he would enter a tavern with Arris behind him. Inside there was a somber tone with people drinking their woes away. " Stay your hand and stay with me. " Harry whispered to Arris, making sure to tell him to not do anything abrasive. Harry walked up to the bar where a bartender was standing, cleaning a few mugs and tankards. " Oi. What'll it be? " He asked in a rough voice. " Looking for... The special stuff. Middle shelf. With a violin. " Harry whispered quietly as he then slid a silver coin across the bar. The bartender didn't react at all to the words.

He placed the mug down and nonchalantly took the coin and slid it under the bar top. " Ah yes, come, let me show you what kind of barrels we have. " The bartender stated as he walked away from the bar. He led both Harry and Arris into the back. Walking through a doorway into what looked like a storage room. There was a few barrels staged on the ground near the corner, the bartender walked over and moved three of the barrels revealing a hatch that led under the floorboards. " Will these work? " The bartender asked. Harry nodded, " Yes. It'll do. " He then passed a gold coin in which the bartender took gently and placed it in his apron.

Harry would open the hatch revealing a ladder that lead underground, there was light coming from within in the hole. Harry quickly climbed down as Arris would follow. The hatch closed after Arris and the sound of barrels being moved above could be heard. Likely covering the hatch they just went down. As they reached the bottom, Harry touched the broach again and his appearance changed once again. Back to his regular form. " Alright. Now come, we have one more guest down here that has been waiting for us. " Harry stated as he walked through this hallway with wood walls and concrete flooring. It was a secret tunnel under this cruddy tavern!

Walking down this hallway would be a room where Harry walked into. " I'm sorry to have left you down here, Albero. I found our other guest who is interested in the same job. " Harry said with a hint of a smile on his face. Arris would see a fairy that stood at five feet and eight inches. He had wings that looked too small for him to use but he held a lute. There was a table in this room that was nicely furnished and maintained. This table was round and had about six chairs around it. Harry sat down in one chair and had his hands on the table. " Before we start. What we will talk about will be... Illegal. If you want to leave now. You can without any resistance. But if you speak of this, you will be hunted down and put down. If you kill me now, you will be hunted down and killed as I have people who know you two are here. If you have questions, before we start. Go ahead and ask them. " Harry still held a kind tone in his voice, he looked content and ready. This entire thing had a lot of secrecy. The change in appearance, the visitation of a cruddy bar that held a secret compartment like this meeting spot. Just opposite of the hallway they came in, there was another hallway that lead down to what looked like another ladder that led upwards.

2d3cc4c88743a0706dcb3be46f69468a59d2641e.jpgA lone ant marched along, its minuscule size allowing it to traverse the tiny space between floorboards as if they were ravines. The distance it could travel within a reasonable amount of time was hardly worth mentioning, but the insect was nothing if not dutiful. The ant came into an open space. The room's sole occupant would, without an ounce of remorse, describe it as drab, dank, and dreary. In that order and with that alliteration in particular. Though the occupant did not consider this a negative, if anything it was refreshing and even exciting. When a slender finger touched the floor the ant crawled up it presenting itself before its lord. "Uh huh, uh huh... I see... Really? Well, then I best prepare for their arrival!" With a pleasant tenor to their voice, the ants' lord spoke eagerly. The ant was presented with a rather nicely sized breadcrumb. "A token of my appreciation for your trouble, can't exactly send you back to the queen empty-handed now can I?" Depositing the ant to the ground it once again began its march this time with a remarkable haul it dragged along. Pulling out a lute from his robes the Fae began to pluck the strings while humming a tune.

Not long after sounds came from above as objects were cleared out of the way and floorboards creaked with new weight. The dimly lit hallway that leads into the room echoed with the sounds of purposeful steps and conversation. When Harry and Arris finally entered the room they were met with the sight of a boyish-looking Fairy who stood at a height just shorter than that of the average man. He lounged gracefully in his chair strumming a lute idly, producing notes pleasant to the ear with hardly much effort. The Fairy, Albero, beamed at them, a welcoming smile that was just too earnest to be anything but friendly. "Harry, welcome back!" His tone was oddly exuberant as if he and Harry Dougherty were lifelong friends. Rather than acquaintances who had met a mere two days prior. He waved off Harry's apology, "Not to worry, I was far from lonely." He punctuated this statement with a strum of the strings of his lute, speaking both lyrically and cryptically.

Turning to the unfamiliar figure Arris, Albero frowned in thought and gave the elven man an appraising look. Casting his gaze up and down he merely stared for a moment before his cheery smile returned. "A new character in our 'fairy tale' I can't wait to see what role you'll play." Albero winked at Arris as if sharing in a joke only he and the elf understood. With a flourish, he held his hand to his chest almost like he was about to sing. "Well met noble kinsmen, I am known as Albero! Lord of Insects, Emissary of Fae kind, and Minstrel of Dreams!" The Fae exuberantly introduced himself along with his many self-appointed titles; his demeanor far too merry for the secretive gathering. With that, the "triad" began their meeting in earnest. At Harry's none-too-subtle promise of what loose lips would get them, Albero seemed unbothered and utterly at ease. "Oh, no need for that on my account. I still owe you, Harry!" Albero looked at Arris speaking almost conspiratorially with his hand up to the side of his mouth. "Apparently Bards can't accept money for their music in public without a license, who knew!?" The Fairy laughed good-naturedly. "Hahah-no no I'm good no questions here." Albero made some effort to stifle his laughter, gesturing for Harry to continue on.

Arris followed his new ally, pondering on the nature on the shape changing necklace’s abilities as they walked through the tavern.

Arris was careful to keep his hood in place this time, concealing his face with a scarf to completely mask his identity and race. Arris wasn’t paranoid of the drunken men identifying him somehow, more aware of the blatant cruelty towards his kind as he walked through the bar, taking the moment to plan how he could get his gold and return home.

Arris was confused by Harry’s words to the bartender, surprised when he was led to the back of the storage room, the secret hatch also confusing him. The amount of secrecy also left him wondering what he had exactly got himself into, but then again it couldn’t be that serious if he was brought from the streets to this, and would likely be better than rotting in a prison.

Arris hadn’t seen the Fairy, surprised by the sudden music. There had been a bard in his previous company, only brought because he was the leaders cousin but he had proven his worth. That was until Arris won the game of straws and was forced to eat him. Arris tried not to think of his previous adventure and the pointless sacrifice of his friends as he listened to the Fairy’s words “It is nice to meet you, I am Arris Greenwood of the Elven Kingdom of Elengrand.” Arris said.

Ser Alvingard's steadfast certainty about the outcome of her decision only served to deepen her growing suspicion regarding the extent of Harry's hired escort's exotic nature. Could this mercenary be of a more bestial or barbaric disposition? To the point that it even offended Eldorian sensibilities and already low tolerance of nonhuman beings? In her, a flicker of feeble hope persisted, whispering that this truly might not be what she thought it could be. If it weren't, then the imminent decision she would have to make would be far easier. But as they approached the entrance of Euraphus Manor, that hope began to wane, crushed with each passing moment. The unusual number of trained, weapon-armed men standing guard in the foyer, totaling ten to eleven, sent alarms ringing within her mind. It was a sight that couldn't be ignored and could only mean one thing.

As Ser Alvingard barked, the other guards swiftly came to attention and manned their stations. Yet, it was the massive, hulking figure that awaited her outside as Alvingard swung open the doors of the manor, and together they stepped into the open, which demanded her immediate attention. The sight before her was nothing short of shocking. It stood before her and Ser Alvingard, a Beastman of truly incredible size, towering over them in an unbelievably imposing manner. Clad in a weathered leather tunic that appeared to barely contain his bulk, accompanied by leather pants and hand wrappings, he seemed to exude an aura of pure raw strength. As she gazed upon him, shock dissipating into a sort of wary contemplation, it became abundantly clear why the head of House Euraphus's security had held such confidence in his selection as her escort.

The Beastman's bow was a striking display of manners that defied the stereotypes associated with his race and appearance. It caught Dione by surprise, but it was a pleasant one, nonetheless. However, his speech, or rather language, was an intriguing blend of the unexpected and the expected. It was deep deep, bestial, even guttural perhaps, yet fit perfectly with his outward characteristics. As the Beastman reached into a small bag hanging from his hip, he pulled out what appeared to be a note or a letter, and with little fanfare, he extended his large hand toward her, allowing her to catch the slightest glimpse of her name written on the parchment. But before anything more could unfold, Ser Alvingard swiftly intervened, stepping forward with his spear raised, showing clear hostility towards the exotic being. Venomous words spewed forth from his lips, as he most likely perceived the Beastman's proximity to her as a possible threat and sought to protect her.

Dione stood still, not moving an inch to put a stop to the occurring tension, her mind racing as she struggled to gather her thoughts amidst the incomprehensible words spoken by the Beast. Meanwhile, Ser Alvingard urgently called for a guard, their armor clinking as they approached the doorway. It was precisely the situation she had dreaded. If only Harry's hired escort had been an elf, fairy, or any being that could pass as human enough by Eldorian standards, this could have been manageable. But it seemed, Harry always loved to have a different plan. Before her, loomed a towering, fearsome-looking Beastman, emanating an intimidating presence- not at all a comforting image. Dione couldn't help but wonder what Harry was thinking, fully aware of the society they were both born into.

Tophas, the sacrificial lamb, hesitantly but obediently moved forward as his superior commanded him to retrieve the letter for Dione from the Beastmen's hand. Dione gave him a small nod of appreciation as he handed her the note. The following words of the Beast that were somewhat comprehensible, and, evening holding a hint of an apology in them, caused Dione to pause for a moment, before she resumed turning the letter- no, note, over in her hands, considering its contents. The note contrasted starkly with the formal and polished style of Harry's earlier letter, immediately revealing its author to be the Beastman. As she read on, something tugged at her heartstrings, something unknown, even to her. The note revealed that Gort, a Beastman from Khantor, had come to the Pact's lands to support his family. Despite being taught only basic writing by Harry, he had taken the time to write this note to show Dione that he was not what she might have assumed him to be.

Clutching the note close to her heart, Dione experienced a strange and unique moment of clarity. Gort was indeed different, was he not? In retrospect, she should have noticed it from the start, even though he was the first exotic being she had ever encountered in person and engaged in interactions with. The stories she grew up hearing about Khantor had always painted a grim picture, describing a land governed by violence and barbarism. These tales inadvertently instilled a passive fear of the country and its people in her mind. However, Gort defied those expectations entirely. If he truly embodied the monstrous characters depicted in those tales, he would never have been allowed into the Noble District, let alone be permitted within the walls of Eldoria. Furthermore, it was Harry himself who had personally assigned Gort to escort her, which spoke volumes about Gort's true nature.

But even so, Dione found herself at the heart of this perplexing matter once more. The critical question remained: Who would accompany her as an escort? On one hand, selecting Ser Alvingard would prevent any future conflicts with him and the other guards, avoiding a blatant show of favoritism, should she choose to be escorted by Gort. However, this decision might humiliate Gort and Harry, as they'd feel disregarded. On the other hand, if she chose Gort as her escort instead of Ser Alvingard, it would simply flip the situation, potentially alienating and delivering a degrading blow to the latter. Dione weighed these considerations with uncertainty.

And so, with a restrained sigh, Dione curtsied, her body gently lowering as she bent her knees while maintaining perfect posture, gathering the edges of her dress skirts in one hand, while extending one leg behind her with poise. "Allow me to extend a warm welcome to the City of Eldoria, Sir Gort. I am Lady Dione of House Euraphus, though I suspect you're already aware of that fact. Your presence today is greatly appreciated, and I humbly accept both your kind compliment and offer to escort me." As she spoke, she maintained her curtsy for an extra moment before standing upright. She presumed he possessed a basic understanding of the language she used, given that Harry had managed to teach him some rudimentary writing, and he had progressed this far within the Pact. "However, I regret to inform you that there must be slight alterations to this arrangement as it is," She gestured toward Alvingard. "His wish to escort me in place of you, Sir Gort." Her gaze shifted between Gort and Ser Alvingard, unwittingly prolonging the silence that ensued after her words. Then, she swiftly dropped the bombshell on them both.

"If possible, I would like to be escorted by both of you."

The large beastman stood there unwavering, he stared at Dione as she had welcomed him into the city, he even gave a slight bow in respect to her, although made sure not to do too sudden of movements to gain the hostility of Ser Alvingard. She then would explain that she would like to be escorted by both him and Ser Alvingard. The beastman didn't react to what she said and instead looked over at the guard for a moment then back at Dione. " GORT GORT. {Yes, that is fine.} " He stated, Dione would be able to understand him clearly, despite him saying his own name, she could understand what he was talking about. When she looked at Ser Alvingard, he looked both confused and disgusted.

" What in all the hells? " He couldn't contain himself anymore, that was too strange for the man who had barely left the city. Unaware of the strangeness that occurs outside of the Eldorian walls. Gort didn't react, he wasn't very surprised by the reaction. " GORT GORT. GORT GORT GORT. {That is something still unknown to me. It's always been this way with me with even my own people.} " Gort explained. Alvingard shook his head looking to Dione, " My lady. Are you sure you want to travel with such queerness? This abominable thing before us couldn't even properly communicate and now it is able to communicate clearly. " He sounded more frustrated that Dione was considering travelling with it. Even with Alvingard by her side, he didn't like Gort and the strangeness he carried. Although this was too far of an insult for Gort.

" GORT GORT. GORT GORT. GORT. {If you would, please allow Lady Euraphus to make her decision. She is a woman who can make her own choices. You are supposed to do as she says, not berate her.} " Gort stated a bit softly, but under that softness was frustration. Whether that frustration was due to the treatment he was receiving, or the treatment of Dione was unclear. Perhaps a bit of both. " Excuse me? You better watch yourself, beast. You have no right to be within these walls. Whoever let you in should be thrown into the darkest pits in the dungeons. " Ser Alvingard had grown too frustrated to suppress his real feelings. Gort didn't look fazed and only stared at him as he continued his barrage of insults.

Harry had smiled at Albero's continued wording, he liked the fairy because of his aloofness, but he could play a mighty tune. One that will be needed for this job he has. " Good. I am glad we are all in agreement then. " The man looked to both Arris and Albero. " Gentlemen. I have brought you both here for a job. We will be... Putting a current nobleman under 'new management.' This entails on gathering information and a possible breaking and entering. I have a third man who is good for the job. What we are looking for exactly is illegal contraband. But this man has a massive underground tunnel system that leads to his estate. " Harry pulled out a map that was underneath the table and rolled it out. On this map there was many different names and what looked like property lines, pointing to one property would be the name Asterin. " The Asterins property. They are a family that influence a lot of the current marketing economy. This will be our ticket to get them to allow my family to buy them out. They would not want their reputation to be tarnished by either accusations or evidence of such illegal dealings. " Harry explained to the two.

" Instead having him sell his business to my family would get us both what we want. " Harry explained while he then flipped a page over to reveal the underground levels of the city, where there was an assortment of tunnels that lead around the city, each branching off into another direction. He then pointed to a specific area he had circled in red ink. " Here is where you will be heading to once we are fully ready for this operation. The Asterins are hiding something, and I have been informed that the youngest of the Asterin family, Laurence Asterin, was seen getting down into the tunnels during brunch in a specific area of the market where people don't hang around at during that time. And you will follow his path. I will in the meantime will be visiting the Asterins with my friend, hopefully. And keep them distracted while you get in and out. Then immediately go to our meeting point, where we will head to in a few minutes. I will do the rest myself afterwards. " Harry explained looking to the two. " Most likely he will have guards within the sewers so... Do as you will. Here in Eldoria, we mainly fight with words and wits. Behind closed doors, we fight viciously. " Dougherty looked to both Arris and Albero. " There any questions? We still have to meet up with a friend of mine and your third team member. "

Arris listened to the plan, trying his best to memorize the route they would take and where any other tunnel entrances where. Arris was far from a stealth expert, unless he was in a lush forest, such as the ones surrounding his homeland. He made up with his skills of marksmanship, which would be undoubtly helpful when dealing with the guards. "And what sort of contraband is this? I would rather transporting illegal alchemetic ingredients than explosives or anything else that dangerous." Eddie said as Alex played with an arrow he had dropped. Eddie sighed and grabbed the destroyed arrow, leaving a piece of beef to distract the young dragon fr causing trouble.

ac653ddb5c4d1b2939a085caeb808a7806e15e80.jpgThe self-styled "Minstrel of Dreams" stowed away his instrument, while he was always ready to play a tune it'd be a bit rude to Harry. The Doughtery son had put together a rather elaborate plan. And he was more than willing to break the law to see it fulfilled. Albero understood that kind of determination and respected it even, in a way. So instead he pulled out parchment and a quill from the recesses of his travel cloak. This kind of situation was a wonderful breeding ground for poetry. The Fae listened to Harry dutifully from the description of the Asterins, buying the family out through the threat of a scandal, and the tunnel system they would be putting to use for the operation. Albero kept an easy-going grin while occasionally scratching at the parchment when inspiration struck him. He couldn't help but think about how he managed to get roped up into Harry's plan. It was simply way too lucky; the material he could get from this was worth its weight in gold. Already he was finding far more value in The Pact than he ever had in the Vale. As Harry finished Albero simultaneously penned a line he felt was quite fitting. O'er the heart of the ambitious man is greed, betwixt love and hate

The Fae smiled widely even showing teeth waving his quill in the air in the direction of Harry. "This is wonderful material Harry. When I finish you'll be the first to read, promise!" Albero was his same aloof self, enough that Harry or Arris may even doubt how seriously he took this. Or anything at all really. Whether they truly thought this or not Albero could not know, but as he was satisfied with his work he spoke up. "While I think transporting explosives would be rather fun, Arris does make a point as to what we are actually looking for. Knowing Harry he'll fill us in fully when we meet this mysterious third character... Though there are a few things I wonder about, they can wait." Albero put a hand to his chin suddenly in contemplation before with a look to Arris he seemed to come to a conclusion. "Actually there is something, if we are doing this we should know our capabilities right? I'd rather not get caught in the tail end of something I'm not prepared for from my allies. I wouldn't have the faintest Idea what to do if Arris started shooting fireballs after all!"

With that, Albero rose from his seat before reaching into his cloak. And pulling out a new instrument. This time it was a flute, white in color but wrapped in vines and small leaves it appeared utterly natural like it had grown into its shape rather than crafted. With a small smile, he holds it up to his lips, closes his eyes, and produces a single high note. The minstrel allows it to linger for a moment before tapering off into silence. Albero pulls the flute down, waiting for something. Suddenly the wall of the hideout rippled like it was water and a fuzzy head poked out looking into the room. The moment the thing's beady eyes landed on Albero it emerged from the wall revealing itself to be a large fluffy moth that flew onto the Fae's shoulder. "Allow me to introduce you all to Helena. Cute isn't she? She's very smart, tidy, and above all a hard worker. I guess you could call her my friend?" Rubbing the top of the moth's head it leaned into his hand seemingly enjoying the contact. Turning back to Arris and Harry Albero gestured with his hand out. "While I did want to introduce Helena I also wanted to demonstrate what I can do. As a Bard, my music is my bread and butter, and as a Fae, my natural connection to magical energy affects my music. Calling Helena is a simple affair but I can do more than that, my brand of music affects the mind whether to bring someone up or put them down." With a wink, he added, "Though keep in mind I'm much more of a lover than a fighter, I am utterly useless in a battle when it comes to violence~" Albero spoke light heartedly basically placing the responsibility of winning a fight on anyone but himself. It was then that Albero actually noticed the dragon at Ariss' side, eyeing it he couldn't help but notice the similarity between both him and Arris when it comes to companions. Helena looks at the little dragon, her antennae twitching all the while.

"There will likely be some repeating ourselves when we meet up with our co-conspirator, but it can't hurt to get to know each other till it's too late." Albero took on a slightly teasing tone enjoying the situation. Before turning back to their "Employer". "My apologies for the aside Harry but other than that I'm satisfied. A little team-building exercise on the way and we'll be ready for action! I am curious about this 'friend' of yours, will they be involved in this I wonder?" With his usual grin, he looks Harry in the eye intently.

Dione Euraphus

Gort consistently surprised Dione, and as opposed to Ser Alvingard, whose expression revealed a mixture of confusion and disgust, her reaction, on the other hand, was one of delighted surprise. The ability to comprehend and communicate with Gort would only prove to be incredibly beneficial for all three of them, as it would make everything proceed much smoother. This occurrence brought about a remarkably positive development—one that made Ser Alvingard's reaction all the more perplexing, especially from her perspective. She couldn't deny that it was peculiar how Gort, despite the Beastmen's lack of conventional language, became comprehensible to both of them. Yet, she found herself questioning, what exactly made this development undesirable? Was it not benefical that they were able to understand Gort?

Or was Ser Alvingard merely searching for additional opportunities to vocally express his aversion and displeasure towards the Beastman? Dione started to believe that this was indeed the case, especially after noticing how he was increasingly displaying frustration with the decision she had made. With a displeased edge, her brows furrowed, and her eyes narrowed ever so slightly. A creeping notion was forming in her mind that Ser Alvingard had crossed a line, both in his treatment of her and in his position as Head of Security. The use of foul language only added to her discontent. Such behavior was not befitting a man belonging to House Euraphus, regardless of his role. It would appear that she had to assert herself firmly, for once.

Dione, undoubtedly a gentle woman, had a strong disinclination to leveraging her position to achieve her goals. However, she couldn't overlook the current situation. Allowing Ser Alvingard to take advantage of her silence at this moment and continue to berate Gort might set a precedent for unchecked behavior from him in the future. It just simply would not do. "Ser Alvingard." She began, her tone gentle yet firm, addressing him. "I must confess, I find myself in agreement with Sir Gort." She did not wish to hear further castigating against the poor Beastment any longer; it was truly distasteful. There existed a delicate balance between respectfully advising one's superior about potential risks of a certain action and outright condemning them, allowing personal biases and prejudices to interfere with one's professional duties.

"Ever since you arrived with me, your utter disregard for respect and courtesy has been nothing short of appalling," Dione declared, her voice barely concealing its intensity as she locked her gaze onto Ser Alvingard. She wanted everyone present, especially the guards lingering by the doorway, to hear her words and understand her determination to assert authority. "I don't expect you to be fond of Sir Gort or develop any camaraderie with him, but I do demand that you treat him with the civility deserved by someone of his position, regardless of his race." She continued, emphasizing her point. "You hold the esteemed role of overseeing the security of House Euraphus. Your position is well-deserved, and my father places great trust and respect in you. As the head of security, I anticipate that you will carry yourself accordingly, as your words, actions, and behavior are a reflection not only of House Euraphus but also of myself and my father. I trust that you comprehend this responsibility, Ser Alvingard." She expressed herself clearly, exuding a sense of daring as if challenging him to question her words or command.

There lingered a silence after Dione had gently berated Ser Alvingard, Gort dared not say a word and merely only watched. His facial expressions were hard to make since he was a beastman. The soldiers that were behind Dione dared not say a word either, though she couldn't see the guards, they most likely had shocked looks upon their faces with mouths agape. Then there was Ser Alvingard who stared at Dione, he towered over her with his height alone but in this house, Dione stood taller than he ever could, but he didn't move either and actually held a look of surprise on his face. Something that was quite rare if not unheard of.

He turned to now face Dione while his face turned into one of rage, everyone most likely thought he was going to explode on Dione but... A smile formed on his face and his face softened. " You have much of your mother and father in you, Lady Euraphus. " Ser Alvingard bowed to Dione, " Of course, my lady. " His tone was much softer now, he looked at Gort who only stared at the head of guard. " You should go with Gort, my lady. You seem like you'll be in good hands. " Ser Alvingard looked back to Dione, " I should go see your father, my lady. Enjoy your time with your friend. " Ser Alvingard nodded to Gort then turned around and headed on inside the manor. Gort didn't look very surprised and stared at Dione, " GORT GORT. GORT. {He is not a bad man. He was testing you.} " The beastman explained, he then turned around like he was ready to head out. " GORT GORT? {Are you ready to head, my lady?} " Gort asked Dione.

Harry Dougherty

A smirk grew on Harry's face as he gave a quiet chuckle, " That is the one-million gold question, isn't it? " Harry looked up, " That is exactly what you will be looking for in the sewers. I am aware he has something hidden down there; I just have no intel on what it exactly is. That is what you are going to figure out. I doubt it would any sort of substance or drug, we do not have that problem here unless it is behind closed doors. " Harry explained while he leaned towards the table with a hand on his chin while his eyes narrowed slightly. " I have doubts on this hidden cache being explosives. I have a lot of ties with marketing and there hasn't been any illegal explosives or a growing abundance of such ordinance. I have a feeling this is something much more... Different. I don't really have a theory on what it is. But this will be a great discovery. The only thing I can think of is some sort of slavery ring. But probably of illegal proportions. " Harry leaned back in his chair. Albero would get a feeling that Harry was lying, but it was a very subtle lie. It would have been hard to miss. He wasn't telling them everything or was leaving certain details out. It was more than likely that Harry did have an idea of what was down there, or he did know and didn't want to tell the two.

When Albero introduced his small friend, Harry gave a smile, " Helena is rather cute. " The minor noble stated, " Your presence will be needed most likely. Our last conspirator will be with us soon. He knows the plan and will be the frontline for you three. He is a beastkin from Khantor. " Of course, the Beastkin from Khantor held a daunting reputation for being insanely bloodthirsty in comparison to other races and factions. They were a united but divided people. Their stories of Stormhorn were somewhat known here in The Pact. Of course, it all sounded very made up and ridiculous, something out of a fantasy fairy tale. " His name is Gort. He is rather civil for a Beastkin and he is very mighty. Once we meet up with him, you all will be well informed on the entire plan. Do I have your interest now? " Harry asked both Arris and Albero.

Arris listened closely, trying to read the mans face for any deception in case gen lied about he desired items. Arris had been betrayed before, once in a similar matter during a heist his party had participated in, one lf his friends killed while another left them for dead.

"So we have no clue of what's the cargo is, some idea could help us determine it." Arris said as he considered how the packaging and how the men moved it could help with guessing the contents. "It won't likely involve slaves, otherwise your spies would have seen the food needed to maintain them. My guess is illegal exports obtained from a foreign voyage." Arris said a small he thought.

"Are you sure we can trust the beast kin? I have even spent time with orcs and would sooner trust them, even if I was posed as a slave." Arris said nearvously, having heard of the beasts reputation.

dcc606d6ef14a4c4dec80a945a96c1e0081fbcf4.jpgWith a hand on his hip and the other petting Helena Albero regarded Harry. The Fae was comfortable even with the looming shadow of the operation hanging over them. The fact that Harry was willing to kill to keep this secret was a good indicator of Eldoria's seedy nature under the surface. The information Harry could give on what they're looking for was vague at best meaning they'd have to search thoroughly for something they couldn't readily identify. All they had was a confirmation that such a thing existed. There was something out of place however as Harry mentioned the potential ideas of what their target could be, "Oh... is that so?" Albero's grin had a knowing feel to it as he gazed intently at the nobleman. His eyes held an elusive shimmer and through them he could see through Harry's lie. He likely has an idea of what it is but his words are non-conclusive and everything he said could technically be true whether he knew for sure what they were looking for or not. Its likely he in fact doesn't have a theory on what it could be, that it would be quite the find, and it could be a slave ring. Though that last part is likely what tripped Albero's Eyes. Despite that the man was still quite adept at keeping his cards close to his chest, even without knowing Albero's ability as a Fairy he still covered for himself. The Bard wondered if that was simply the nature of the people of Eldoria? Of course that was more than fine to Albero. That Harry was willing to lie to them only made this job all the more interesting.

Then Albero's enigmatic look vanished as the conversation briefly turned to his fluffy friend. "She is, truly! Best gift I ever received from mother!" The moth nuzzled him affectionately. "Speaking of..." Albero turned his head to Helena seemingly listening to something only he could hear. "I swear, that woman will never change always working on those 'projects' of hers. Give my regards to her will you?" He spoke exasperatedly as if he was talking about a particularly problematic child. With a look Helena sprung from Albero's shoulder fluttering in the air for a moment before diving back into the wall once again vanishing into it like ripples on a pond. Giving a lackadaisical wave he returned to the conversation. "A Beastkin? I have yet to meet one but I have heard tales of Khantor, I hear its quite the free spirited place. I am looking forward to meeting this 'Gort'." Albero showed no worry as to the reputation of Beastkin, calling into question if he even fully understood the full nature of their culture. At Arriss' wariness as to working with a Beastkin Albero came up from the side and patted him lightheartedly on the back. "Now now thats simply no fun Arris I'm sure Harry's compatriot is nothing to be nervous over. Worrying is carrying tomorrow’s load with today’s strength after all. Besides I think we've held our employer's time long enough as it is why don't we get this show on the road?" Albero spoke aloud, looking to both the elf and man.

Arris watched as the thing disapeered into the stone wall, guessing that it was visiting Albero's homeland based on the half of the conversation he had heard. "I have worked with Dwarves, Humans, Tieflings, Andy even an Orc once but I won't trust a beast." Arris said asbhe walked toward Alex, feeding him some of the rations he had bought from a nearby shop in the outskirts of the city before coming here.

"I will need to restock on arrows and anything I may need, I am unfortunately low on those even after my purchases at a vendor not far from here, will my currency be accepted here?" Eddie reached into his pouch of different currencies, ranging from Dwarf to Orc but eventually finding the most abundant: his own homelands. The coin was a polished gold, no signs of decay or any dirt. The coin like in his land was enchanted to stop any rust or any other damage. The coin was much larger than most currency, baring the two emblems of his kingdom on either faces.

Describing Dione's reaction as mere astonishment would be a significant understatement. The transformation in Ser Alvingard's demeanor was truly startling – from a rarely witnessed state of surprise to a burgeoning fury. Just as she anticipated his anger to reach its peak, and his restraint over words to wane, an unexpected twist occurred. A gentle smile graced his weathered countenance, causing his once-angry features to noticeably soften. She was left speechless as he continued speaking, drawing comparisons between her and her parents. His comments highlighted how much of her parents' traits resonated within her. This was followed by a gracious bow and an acknowledgement of her thoughts. It wasn't until he was about to leave that she managed to recover from her initial shock caused by his sudden change in behavior. Clarity returned to her, and she briefly nodded in response as he bid her farewell and gracefully retreated into the manor.

Well, that had certainly been quite an event. However, Dione found herself devoid of further contemplative moments, as time didn't grant her the luxury to decipher or speculate about the sudden shift in Ser Alvingard's demeanor. Without a moment's delay, Gort, emanating an air of nonchalant understanding, interjected and promptly offered an explanation. Evidently, it had been a deliberate trial. Ser Alvingard actually had been putting her to the test? In retrospect, this revelation appeared logical. As the heiress to House Euraphus, and with Ser Alvingard serving as her father's chief aide, the pieces fell neatly into place. She had initially suspected Harry to be the sole orchestrator of this trial, yet in an unexpected turn, it was Ser Alvingard all along. Though, it might also have been an unintentional collaboration of sorts. The query of Harry's motives behind Gort's involvement as her escort remained unanswered. Did he intend to merely gauge her biases, or did his actions carry a more intricate political motive? Dione held a reluctance for the latter to be accurate, hoping against the possibility. Nevertheless, she acknowledged Harry's sagacity was unlikely to lead him down such a treacherous path with her, of all people.

In any case, he would inevitably need to justify himself once Dione reached The Chisel's Idol. "Truly... that appears to be the case. What a cunning individual," her voice finally emerged as she shifted towards Gort, "And certainly, I am prepared to depart, Sir Gort. We can commence our journey without delay." It was time to get going.

Harry smirked at the statement that Albero had stated about Khantor, " That is one way to say it. Or at least the nicest way to. " But Harry's gaze moved to Arris who showed animosity towards what was said about Gort, " Now then, Arris. This Beastman can be trusted, he saved me from a pretty harrowing situation. He can be trusted but I will not accept your racist and negative comments about a person you have yet to meet. You are no better than the soldiers in this town if you keep that behavior up. " Harry stated with calmness in his voice. " I expected you to be much better than what you have already experienced today, now is not the time for hypocrisy. " Harry stood up from his seat and looked to both Arris and Albero. " Now then, let us depart. I expect Gort to arrive back to my base of operations shortly. We must beat them. Worry not about your supply run, I can have people at our meeting location take care of what supplies you will need. Let us go. " Harry then led them to the next room where there was a ladder that led outside to the surface. Although when they got to the surface they would be behind the tavern where a barrel was next to the hole, most likely being the cover. And next to the hole were two cloaked men holding crossbows with a bright substance on the arrow tip, most likely an exotic poison. They were probably tasked with killing the two if they had killed Harry. Dougherty was a careful man or at least a smart one to make sure that if he died, his killers would be too. Seeing Harry, they slowly raised their weapons and placed them under their cloaks before standing against the wall waiting for them to leave, they were hard to see since they had cloaks over their faces. Harry then walked away into the city of Eldoria.

The Chisel's Idol

As both parties would make their way to the store named The Chisel's Idol, outside of the establishment there were men and women working on some sort of stone where they took a hammer and chisel to. These were most likely workers for the Dougherty Family that were hired, or this was possibly a training for them to learn how to become better stonemasons. Harry would lead both Albero and Arris up the stairs where there were a couple of cloaked men standing. " Harry. " One spoke with a somewhat rough tone, " You have gathered your mercenaries? We ready? Your other merc, Gort, will be here soon. " The man spoke, he had a cold expression about him as he looked at both Arris and Albero, sizing them up with a cold expression upon his face, after a quiet few moments he huffed. " I suppose they'll do, they look somewhat capable. " The man scoffed a bit as he then spat on the ground, " Yes, these two will do. We will only need the three of them. I will be causing the distraction. " Harry stated with a lax tone about him, but underneath there was a sense of nervousness in it. " If you say so. We should head inside before your friend arrives. " He turned then walked up the stairs and headed inside the building without another word. Harry would look to both Albero and Arris. " Do not mind him. He is a benefactor to this operation of ours. He is trustworthy, although call him Tethered, it is what he wants to be known as. " Harry reassured the two.

Tethered

Harry would follow after Tethered and head inside this marketing building. Getting inside, the two outsiders would bare witness to many workers getting multiple different packaging ready, some were placing small models into crates while others were placing bigger idols into larger crates. There was even a carriage that was having what looked like planes of stone laid in the back, most likely being delivered to someone who ordered them. The entire inside was busy with many stonemasons that were oblivious to the presence of the new visitors. They were too enthralled with working. " These are our delivery grounds, where we ready all of our orders that have been completed. We train new stonemasons here and either hire them or get them jobs in other cities. " Harry would explain before he pointed to a stairway that lead upstairs, " Our benefactor is waiting upstairs for us. Let us not keep him waiting. We also have food for you to enjoy before you head out. " Dougherty would lead them up the stairs to the next floor with a office, walking in through a pair of doors would reveal Tethered, looking at an entire table covered in notes, maps and sketches. Each varied from one to another. On another table that was besides the doors was a table full of recently made food, varying from what looked like donuts to small breakfast meals. " Help yourself then join us at the table. " Harry told the two as he moved to the table to speak with Tethered who still had a serious look about him.

After the two would decide to eat or not and come to the table, Tethered would look at both of the newcomers and immediately looked at the table. " Here we have all the information on our target. " Tethered pointed to a very detailed drawing of a woman with the name Bernadette Asterin.

" Mrs. Asterin here is suspected of potentially harboring some sort of contraband in the sewers underneath her estate. We are not sure what exactly, but whatever it is must be a new thing she is readying to sell secretly on the market. She controls most of the marketing here in Eldoria and we are looking to bring her small syndicate down. " Tethered stated, he pointed his finger to another page with another detailed portrait of a man, " Laurence Asterin. " Tethered stated, " Son to Bernadette Asterin. He is most likely leading this operation and got sloppy after being discovered. You will most likely run into him down there. If you do. Kill him. " Tethered said that last part in a cold tone. " If he is killed, this operation will be a lot easier to finish on our end. Otherwise, do not worry if you don't see him. He is a brash youngling and most likely will not back down unless he knows he is losing. Having three against him and his militia will give him a big head. " Tethered continued.

" You will enter a sewer system in the marketing district. " He then pointed to a small map that was laying in front of both Albero and Arris. It would show the marketing district with store names, a X would be placed behind a store called Kelper's Shimmers. " The manhole to the sewers is behind that shop, in a alleyway. There will be one near that place when you go over there. " Tethered explained. " You will be looking for anything down there. We do not know exactly what. There is a chance that the contraband is coming from a outside source. All we know is that they have gone down in the sewers multiple times, and every attempt to follow them has been unsuccessful. Until we have tracked them down in a specific area. " harry would place the map that he had showed them earlier. " On this map, " Tethered took the map and circled around a cluster of sewer tunnels with his finger, a shimmer then blue ink would appear where he touched. " This is where we believe they are to be. This is very recent information so take it with a grain of salt. Whatever you find down there, bring evidence back. " Tethered placed the map down and looked at the two, " Is that understood? He asked.

The carriage would finally arrive to The Chisel's Idol where Dione would notice the many new stonemasons in training outside, working on expanding their skills. The carriage would stop in front of the store and Gort would open the carriage door before climbing out, he then helped Dione out where a woman would approach the two. " Dione Euraphus? Is that truly you? " this woman would ask, walking down the stairs a older woman in a nice dress would address Dione. " It is so good to see you again, my dear, especially after so long. " She approached Dione who would realize this was Harry's mother, Denise Dougherty. " How have you been, my dear? " She asked, she looked rather tired but still had a happy expression on her face.

Adrian Greenewood looked to Alex, suddenly on edge. The small dragon had a psychic link with him, his emotions occasionally projecting on him. Eddie took a second to breath, considering his ally's words. "I apologize for my bigotry, I shall not continue to do so." Though Eddie still harbored some mistrust towards the inhabitants of Khantor he decided to have a more open mind, seeing as he had just recently encountered this treatment first hand.

"Very good, I don't need much but I do need a small cage to keep Alex in until we leave, unfortunately he is not aqquanted with stealth." Arris said as he followed, Alex giving an annoyed growl before flying into his bag.

Once the trio reached the odd building, he looked around. "I suppose this is a guild for stone masonry? I had a friend back at home who set off to find a guild." Arris said as he followed.

Arris stared at the various objects on the map for useful information, trying his best to memorize the sewer system in their immediate vicinity along with some additional routes of escape. "Yes, Sir Tethered." Arris said before pulling a cloth from his bag, several symbols decorating it. "I have a friend that was traveling nearby a few years ago, he was a promising stone mason; and used this Sigil." Eddie said San he gestured to one of the symbols.

Dione Euraphus

As the carriage set off, its gentle swaying taking Dione away from the view of Euraphus Manor and through the streets of the Noble District, she finally had a moment of solitude to contemplate the day's early events. The beginning of her day had unfolded in ways she would never have anticipated. Receiving Harry's unexpected initiation had been a pleasant surprise, but what transpired afterward was far from it. From the disclosure that he had arranged for an "exotic" escort for her, to Ser Alvingard's unexpected assessment of her demeanor, the morning had been full of twists. She did not believe it set a favorable tone for the hours ahead, but she sincerely hoped events would be swift to prove her pessimism unfounded.

As the carriage journey continued, time appeared to fly by, or perhaps the entire ride had lasted only a few fleeting moments. Before Dione could fully grasp it, the carriage came to a halt before an impressive structure known as the Chisel's Idol. Gort extended his assistance as she alighted from the carriage. She began to express her gratitude to the Beastman when both of them were approached by an elegant, older woman in attire that perfectly complemented her. It didn't take long for Dione to recognize the woman and realize her identity—it was Denise Dougherty, Harry's mother. She blinked. How long had it been since she had last seen the woman? It was difficult to recollect.

"I've been very well, thank you, Ms. Dougherty," Dione expressed with genuine warmth, a smile gracing her face. She couldn't help but notice the hint of fatigue in Denise's features, but it quickly faded into the happiness of the woman's expression. "I can only hope you've been equally well." Her voice softened with gentle familiarity as she continued, though as her gaze shifted between Denise and Gort, a question formed in her eyes. "I'm not entirely certain if Harry has had the pleasure of introducing you both before. Gort, may I introduce you to Denise Dougherty, Harry's mother? Ms. Dougherty, this is Gort, a Beastman hailing from Khantor, whom Harry enlisted as my escort for today." She spoke while indicating the two individuals in front of her, before bringing her hands together in a polite clasp at her front.

sample-dcaa7e56a3c0d8ff4f02fca3ed652a48.jpgThe verbal lashing Arris received from Harry was a welcome amusement to Albero, who merely smiled cheekily at his poor compatriots faux pas. The fairy minstrel of course had no scruples about working with a Beastmen or of anyone for that matter. The more unique the better an artist would stagnate without new material after all. Since leaving the Vale Albero had no shortage of new experiences it was all so fresh to him. Even Arris dislike of another race was not something that particularly bothered him, if anything it added "color" to the story known as Arris Greenewood. With Harry's chastising over the leader of their merry band rose from his seat signaling the time to move was now. Albero followed in kind rising from his own seat moving with a knowing grin, his body was relaxed and showed no signs of rushing anymore than necessary. Opting to move at his own pace without worry despite Harry's desire to beat their other colleague arrival. "If all is well, then let us be off." Following behind the Dougherty heir Albero pulled on a white travel cloak hiding his wings and lavish garments underneath. The Fae curiously looked to the ladder which lead to a different exit than the one he had first come through. With a fascinated expression he climbed up behind Harry soon finding himself behind the tavern. Spying the cloaked men standing guard wielding crossbows Albero focused on them intently but soon recognized they were likely on Harry's payroll. The men stepped to the side allowing the three of them to pass by onto the streets of Eldoria. As they did Albero flashed a boyish grin and a friendly wave to his would be killers should he have proven to be a liability.

Within the Chisel's Idol Albero along with Arris trailed dutifully behind Harry. As usual he smiled at anyone who met his eyes while watching the stonemasons hone their craft. He seemed truly interested in their relatively mundane work staring with rapt attention and good cheer. Albero likely would have interrogated the workers of the Chisel's Idol had he not been bonded to Harry through this job. It was all quite novel to the Fae who had come from a land of wood, magic and natural beauty. The industry of man was quite removed form such things. They were lead to a room where veiled men much like Harry's guards stood waiting. Harry introduced them to one of his ally's though him and Arris were simply considered mercenaries to the man. Albero bowed to the man in greeting bringing his hand up before sweeping it back down in a circular motion to cross over his chest, it was oddly formal and something the Fae Bard had picked up on his travels. Likely as a some form of amusement. He looked at the rather serious cloaked man he now knew to be called "Tethered", his carefree almost cheshire smile aimed at the man. Placing a hand on his hip and another on his chin Albero appeared thoughtful as he stared at him a question lingering in his gaze.
"Tethered? Implying you are bound to something? Hm... perhaps to a particular person, maybe a family or an organization?" Albero seemed to deeply mull over the origin of the mans name. "What about something more symbolic like fate? If that's the case it would practically exude 'Tragedy'; the plots getting good I like the sound of it." Albero nodded to himself like he was satisfied either not knowing or not caring how bizarre he came off especially for a "mercenary".

Trailing behind Tethered Albero looked on in unrestrained interest as they walked into a building chock full fo workers. So absorbed in their task of transporting stone that the newcomers were paid no mind as they passed. Harry speaking to them almost like a tour guide was quite welcome to Albero who soaked up the info eagerly. At the promise of free food the Bard noticeably quickened his Entering an office on the floor above Tethered went right down to brass tacks. Namely the description of Harry's business rival, and soon to be former rival. Albero admired the sheer detail of the portrait recognizing the skill of a fellow artist. The fact that it was the visage of their target was somewhat of an after thought. Despite his inherently flighty nature Albero did listen though some of it did go over his head simply due to is unfamiliarity with the climate of Eldoria. What he did understand is that this Laurence and Bernadette Asterin were keystones in the city, and Harry wanted them removed and replaced. Albero had no qualms with that however, "Kill him huh? I prefer to raise spirits not take them. Too bad..." For the first time the Fae's easy going smile was gone. Replaced with a neutral expression that betrayed no personal feelings. He remained quiet for the rest of the debriefing listening closely in stark contrast to how distracted he had seemed before. At the end Albero seemed to gather his thoughts before a somewhat sly grin once again graced his features. "To recap, me, Arris and this Gort fellow will enter the sewers in the market district from the manhole behind the shop. Then search for this mystery product somewhere within this area..." He gestures to the sewer tunnels marked with blue ink. "Find the evidence to bury the Asterin family and should we encounter Laurence we take his life. And finally we head back to base with the evidence in tow." Albero gives his summary to ensure they acknowledge his understanding of the operation and goals. He looks to Arris, "Its an extensive plan but its certainly possible, I'll provide support as well as a method to search the tunnels as quickly as possible. I'll leave the 'heavy-lifting' to you." Some of Albero's previous cheekiness showed as he spoke to Arris but he was still a touch serious. When Arris pulled out his stone Sigil Albero had a curious look wondering what his aim was.
