Realistic or Modern Sweet Dreams Corps - Characters

OOC
Here

TruthHurts_22

Funtimes Salesman
Guidelines
• One character per person.
• Nothing is inherently off limits, but try to keep your character within the tone: not too silly or too dark without a good reasoning for it.
• You're able to claim anything in your character's Backstory. Make up character, companies, places within Wincrest - it's your oyster to form along with me!
• The setting is modern day, but Behdlam R&D is very high-tech, so a lot of their stuff (and what they give to characters) is of a light sci-fi. Not rayguns, though, they haven't cracked that technology yet.
• For your character's Daydream, try to make it something physical that they produce. Do you want your character to have passive buffs, like super strength or flight? Maybe their Daydream is a favorite childhood drink that imbues them with that power. Be creative!
• Though on that note, keep the base Daydream straight forward. You can make it better, stronger, or more varied with XP later down the line.
• Every character has a special SDC Bracelet, so put that into their Inventory. Sweet Dreamers also receive a handgun and light protection.
• You don't HAVE to stick to the CS exactly, so long as all the information is there. I'm just terrible at formatting.

CS
Name: (The name. Feel free to have it be a nickname, if they go by that.)
Age: (How old they are. Behdlam isn't against taking in children as Sweet Dreamers, but only with good reasoning for why.)
Appearance: (If you're using a faceclaim, please avoid real people. It skeeves me out for some reason.)
Specialty: (What their 'role' is as a Sweet Dreamer. Are they a frontline fighter or better at a range? Can they take a beating or are they more of a flanker? Support, combat medic, demolitions expert?)
Personality: (What your character is like, how they think, how they act contrary to how they think, etc.)
Background: (Your character's past, up to when they were recruited. Keep it as brief as you can.)
Inventory: (The things they have! Both useful or otherwise, and if they own anything that doesn't fit on their person, you can put that here too.)
Daydream: (What can your Sweet Dreamer do? Just remember the restrictions; it's a physical thing, and relates specifically to the character - an important memory, recurring dream, etc. If you have questions about it, ask!)
Fun Fact: (A tidbit or two about your character, to help flesh them out a bit more, and maybe even the setting or story. Nothing that can fit in the other sections, at least.)

I whipped up a character real quick for this, there’s not much lore in it yet. Tell me if I need to change anything!

Name: Harriet Hills

Age: 22

Appearance: Harriet is a bit taller than average at 5’10, and lacks in weight what she has in height. She’s 98 lbs; she has less the figure of a model and more one of a corpse, with thin arms, bony legs and a flat stomach & chest. She has a round face and chubby cheeks despite her weight; she’s got a thin nose and round eyes with heavy bags underneath them. Her skin is fair and pasty while her hair is blond and cut into a short pixie; it’s texture is thin and wispy, barely thick enough to cover her head. She sometimes wears green framed glasses to see.

Specialty: Harriet’s powers work better from a distance as she’s frail and weak to physical attacks. She can weaken and dizzy, more rarely kill enemies with a toxic aura of radiation, as well as steroids she delivers through an oversized needle to help her teammates get back into shape, or at least help them fight through the pain.

Personality: Harriet is a kind individual, but has a bit of a black and white attitude towards life and can sometimes be unforgiving. She’s prone to being ditzy, as she’s at times forgetful and doesn’t grasp the subtleties of certain situations. She’s not the smartest, and due to her forgetfulness she has little faith in herself & is pretty gullible. She’s accepting of others and tries to give them advice when she can. She’s an introvert and usually stays indoors, though she’s more talkative and open around her loved ones. She’s quite adventurous and has little qualms about trying new things if they’re not dangerous.

Background: She’s had a pretty average childhood and life up until the age of 16, when she was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer located in her immune system. The next 6 years of her life she spent fighting off the disease, leaving school and halting her education in the progress. Her cancer is currently in remission, and though she’s still very weak and sickly, she’s slowly beginning to heal. She’s bitter at the doctors that failed to diagnose her sooner, and plans on returning to school to become a doctor herself.

Inventory:
  • She has a box packed with different pills for her various maladies, a few she’s forgotten the use for.
  • Her SDC bracelet
  • She has a clean, fresh needle on her at all times in case of emergency.
  • An extra hoodie; she’s usually quite cold.
Daydream: Harriet has the bitterness and determination of someone wronged by those that were meant to help her, strong enough she can conjure needles and radiation from her memories of the hospital.

Fun Fact: Harriet enjoys knitting and creating various textiles. She also believes that peanut butter goes on anything.

Looks good to me, only hitch is the Daydream. Could you expand a bit on what it does, exactly? Are the needles purely stab-stab or can they inject/withdraw stuff too - medicines real or magical, or maybe even something more abstract Also maybe rework the 'radiation aura' a bit, since that sorta thing doesn't work for what a Daydream's supposed to be. It could have a tangible, uh, radiation delivery system, though that might be a thing Harriet can obtain later instead of a default thing.

ONSOYaT.jpg

Name: Briella Adair, also known as Bri or Ella to her friends

Age: 24

Physical Description: At five feet and seven inches, Briella is tall for a woman. She's also rather curvy, and she keeps her body in shape and toned. Briella has caramel skin and black hair, which she always keeps straightened. Her eyes are gray, but they're rarely seen, as Briella is almost always wearing sunglasses. She's a bit of a fashionista. Briella enjoys wearing different kinds of outfits, from crop tops to rompers to mini-dresses. She's proud of her appearance, and she often wears low-cut, provocative clothing. Briella has a weakness for big earrings. Whenever she has to do manual work, she tends to slap her hair in a bun and wear a simple tank top.

Specialty: She'd work well as a scout/flanker! Her tools mean that she can take pictures and gather intel, and she's quite fast.

Personality: Though her flashy outfits and outspoken manner lead some to think of her as a diva, Briella is actually no-nonsense and straightforward when it comes to work. She likes to talk, and when she's nervous, she becomes even more talkative and snarky. However, Briella will not put up with any crap. If she thinks something is wrong, she will immediately say it. When she gets impatient, Briella fidgets. She's excellent with technology, and she's often gushing about (or tinkering with) new cameras. Her brash demeanor sometimes cause people to write her off, but Briella is actually very loyal to her friends and exceptionally competent in her field. At times, she enjoys playing with the preconceptions of people, using their assumptions against themselves.

tLHhiiw.jpg

General Background: Born to a middle-class, mixed family, Briella had a comfortable childhood. It wasn't a quiet childhood, however, as she had three older siblings, all brothers. Thanks to her brothers' influence, Briella learned how to defend herself and gained a keen appreciation for athletics. That didn't mean she wasn't girly, though. If anything, she was stubbornly insistent on proving that it was possible to be both girly and strong. Briella had been fascinated with technology ever since she was seven, when her oldest brother was gifted a computer.

In high school, she discovered that she could combine both her passions, fashion and technology, and Briella decided to become a fashion photographer. She won a track and field scholarship to a good state college and decided to pursue her career there. Life had other plans, though. When a vengeful spirit haunted the main university library, Briella used a haphazard but surprisingly effective camera set-up to document the ghost.

After the mishap in the library, Briella changed her mind and decided to document the paranormal full-time. She worked as a freelancer after graduating from college, helping both tech companies (and victims of the paranormal) with detection and sensing software. She's acted as support to various paranormal agencies on and off throughout the years, but it's only in the last two that she's made it her profession. Behdlam R&D hired her last year as a freelancer, promising access to shiny tech and interesting problems. Then everything became chaos, and she was stuck in the city. And after discovering she was immune, they changed her job description...

Inventory:
  • Many very cute outfits and matching jewelry
  • Boss sunglasses
    • Special boss sunglasses that double as HUD/map that helps her keep track of potential enemies. Courtesy of Behdlam R&D, dubbed "Martha."
  • Four different kinds of modified cameras, each specialized for a different situation
    • Lolo: her long-distance camera with a telescoping lens
    • Jojo: her all-purpose camera with a decent zoom.
    • Fifi: meant for close-ups and details
    • Michael: a big, bulky camera that's meant to be stationary.
  • Two laptops
    • Penny: Her tiny, portable laptop that fits nicely in her purse. It can't do much besides the basics.
    • Dumbo: Her big, heavy laptop that she does her work from. Usually stays at home.
  • One cellphone called "Candy." Has her high score for Candy Crush (shut up, it's fun!) and is very, very jail-broken.
Daydream:
  • Now You See Me
    • She can summon a bright green camera (called Yikes in her mind) that stuns things it takes pictures of. Well, it's supposed to stun and confuse... the effect is unfortunately very temporary.

Fun facts: She can't draw to save her life. No, really. Briella is fond of small animals, but she really hates bugs, both the physical and the electronic kind.

Ok, message received! I was thinking the radiation aura was just something she exudes through her flesh when she’s feeling some type of way. I’ll change it to be more needle-centric; I was thinking about changing it to something directly related to her cancer, like the ability to replicate things (like cells do) but I figure that would be too negative of a memory for her to use (unless she was some type of anti-hero/villain??)

I don't hate the idea of it, though I think it's a bit too iffy to have a character weaponize their cancer. Though the Daydream doesn't necessarily have to represent a fully 'good' memory if it's still important to the person.

Name:
Ronan Carmichael

Age:
19

Appearance:
Ronan is taller than average and big-boned, with wide-shoulders, thick thighs and more than enough in the chest and butt area. With that she has some stomach chub and rolls to complement her wide hips, and stretch marks on her stomach. She has milk chocolate brown skin, spotted with hyperpigmentation areas from acne, and her face itself is round and good-natured, nose small and delicate but eyebrows strong and defined above her large light brown eyes. She has long eyelashes and thick, curly brown hair that she keeps in a short pixie cut, mostly for convenience. She normally wears clothes that she finds comfortable and fun, like ripped jeans, overalls, big t-shirts and hoodies, and converse. Sometimes she’ll wear makeup; fill in her already dark, thick eyebrows, do some winged eyeliner or eye shadow, put on some foundation to cover up her acne scars and uneven skin, but often she is in a hurry or she’s not feeling it, so she’ll go bare-faced.

Specialty:
Ronan is known primarily as the medic, a healer for the other Sweet Dreamers and civilians, but in rare cases, can form a sort of makeshift shield out of her pink smoke to take some damage for those already hurt.

Personality:
Ronan is more of a reserved and quiet individual, often preferring to be alone with her books and video games. However, she can come out of her shell when around the right people, and has a natural altruism, a need to help people in any way she can. Ronan is often mistaken for someone who is shy and insecure; though she does have problems with her image, she is a confident and independent black woman, and exceedingly brave in her own quiet way. She is enamored with fantasy books and poetry, with anything outlandish and magical, so when the Curse came to Wincrest she was at once fascinated and terrified. Though the Curse has done nothing good for the town of Wincrest, Ronan cannot say she views it with abhorrence. Some part of her loves the Curse, because it proved that magic is real, that there is more to this world than a minimum wage job or a college degree.

Background:
Ronan grew up in Wincrest with her large family: mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, Uncle Thomas, and her three brothers Nelson, Will, and Zachariah. With such a large house, and being born in the middle of her brothers, Ronan could often float under the radar. She got good grades in highschool, A’s and B’s to keep her parents off her back; she did some extracurriculars, got her license as soon as possible and a job quickly after that. She took steps to become as independent as possible, because she had a dream: to leave Wincrest and become a writer. To experience something beyond this city of deadends. Shortly before her graduation date however, the Curse descended upon Wincrest, and she found that out of her family, she was the only one immune to its effects. After almost being killed by a monster that manifested in response to her mother’s discontentment with life, she was quickly recruited by the Behdlam R&D.

Inventory:
-Lord of the Rings Trilogy collection
-Fablehaven book series
-First Aid Kit (for medic duties)
-Cell Phone (mostly just uses it to call in and check on her family)
-White Ford pickup, used car she got for her 16th birthday
-Necklace in the shape of a white hat, a gift from her grandmother
-Old laptop

Daydream:
Ronan has always struggled with her weight, and most importantly, with her own self-perception. Growing up she never really saw big girls being treated well in movies; most often, they were comic relief or a placeholder for the hot best friend. But she remembered the first time she watched the musical movie Hairspray. Tracey Turnblad was a confident, beautiful big girl, and she relished watching her dance with pretty Zac Efron, and being hailed for her dancing skills. Also, Queen Latifah, her idol, had a whole song about being Big and Black and Beautiful? What more could you ask from a movie? After that first viewing, Ronan would have recurring dreams about Hairspray, about being in the movie, about being Tracey Turnblad or Queen Latifah herself, about being Ronan but in that Hairspray world. She would hum the songs to herself while reading books in her quiet little nook, or walking through the hallways at school.

It was a bit of a surprise though when her daydream turned out to be connected to those Hairspray songs. The Curse made it so that whenever she hummed, and even more so when she sang, those songs from a movie so close to her heart, a 50's style jukebox appeared before her, a manifested dream. Along with the music, pink smoke would flow out of the jukebox. Anything the pink smoke touched became….better. Healthier, more alive. Happier.

In terms of combat, she acts primarily as a healer/medic for those wounded by Nightmares. However, she has discovered that her jukebox, under rare circumstances of stress, can sometimes put up a pink bubble shield, to protect those already wounded.

(I was thinking that the shield power could become more developed as the storyline progresses)

Fun Fact:
She has a French Bulldog named Tootsie Roll that she loves with all her heart. She calls him ‘Roll’ for short.

Notes:
Let me know if my idea for her daydream ability is okay! I know the idea is a bit abstract, and that it’s inputting a real-life movie into this fictional world, but I thought I would put it by you first and see what you think. I know I want Ronan to be a healer/medic and more of a support character, but I can change/edit her daydream ability no problem.

Loving the creativity behind Ronan. Though yes, a small change to her Daydream would be nice, something for the smoke to come out of rather than herself if that makes sense. Other than that, thumbs up!

dae mec dae mec Oh my gosh the names for all the devices are so cute!!!

Anyway, on to the main event:
~~~
Name: Claire Lam
Age: 16
Appearance: A tomboy by most standards. Claire leaves her dark hair long, free, and unbrushed, tucked under the raised hood of a thick sweater. Her lean build is of someone who runs and climbs a lot, though her nonexistent sense of fashion fails to capitalize on her fitness. Often pairing oversized longsleeves with basketball shorts and sometimes a baseball cap no matter the season, Claire seems to look charming in her own, offbeat kind of way. She stands around 5’4, tall and confident, with smug brown eyes and a button nose.
Specialty: Close combat DPS. Strong and fast but not very durable; can fit either as a frontline fighter, scout, or messenger.
Personality: Headstrong, upbeat, and somewhat gullible, a lot of the subtleties of sarcasm pass right over Claire’s head. It’s hard to dampen her optimism and even harder to stop her from taking impulsive, uncalculated risks… But somehow, she always seems to beat the odds. Mostly. She’s an explorer and hates sitting still, the star of the soccer team but otherwise a mediocre student who would rather be doing anything else than reading for an English assignment. Having inherited her mother’s paranoia, she’s afraid of strangers on the street and takes extra precautions (like leaving her hood up and not listening to music) when running or exploring the streets of Wincrest. On the other hand, to people she has been introduced to (or otherwise is forced to be around), Claire is often the first to break the ice but doesn’t actively pursue friendships. Presumably one of the younger members of the SDC, Claire still feels like she needs to somehow prove herself to all these people she looks up to.
Background: Born in a wealthy family who had mostly lived in the suburbs but frequently moved from place to place, Claire’s parents had moved to Wincrest to seek opportunities for their real estate business. In spite of the rumors of how the city was a black hole that drew in all the misfortune and made investor funds disappear near instantly, her father saw potential in what was an otherwise dead-end ghost town. The Curse settled over the city shortly after her older brother had left for college. Her father had fallen prey to it quite quickly, having alarmingly entered a coma during a regular office meeting. Much to her mother’s chagrin, Claire had decided that the best way to save her dad was to forcibly gain the attention of the SDC by waving them down the minute she realized she was immune to the curse, and bothering them repeatedly until they took her seriously.
Inventory:
A good many things can be found in various pockets:
- A couple hairbands (not that she ever uses them)
- A lucky coin to help her stop being horribly indecisive (even though half the time she vetoes the coin’s decision)
- Napkins
- Spare change and credit card
- A pair of tangled earbuds, red
- Phone + keys
- charging cable
- Spring-loaded pocket knife
She does not wear any notable accessories except for the mandatory SDC bracelet. If required, the SDC handgun would be strapped to her right thigh… but certain people aren’t too keen to give her the permission to handle one.
Daydream: A hella sweet pair of neon kicks — in other words, shiny, fancy white sneakers streaked with radioactive green and electric yellow stripes. The form of the daydream calls back to childhood memories… but its effects call upon Claire’s wild, gravity-defying dreams. Claire’s shoes give her a supernatural sense of balance and a slight weightlessness, letting her effortlessly do acrobatics nearly impossible to normal, unassisted humans (such as performing double flips with her hands behind her back and chaining kicks as if this were some sort of video game). The daydream also boosts the strength in her legs, allowing for higher jumps and stronger kicks, as well as increase her overall endurance. The soles of the shoes have a little more grip than usual on most surfaces, which stops her from slipping and helps her get a hold when trying to climb walls.
Fun Fact(s):
- Both Claire’s keys and her phone have GPS trackers on them — partly because she misplaces them all the time, but also because her mother secretly checks in on her location up to three times a day to make sure she hasn’t been kidnapped and ransomed.
- Claire wishes she could finally manage to contact her brother, but can’t seem to get through to him on any media. They never really got along or saw eye to eye, but she does miss him more than she thinks she should.
- Claire seems to know all the best places to eat in town — especially the little hole-in-the-wall places — and is very liberal with her spending when it comes to food.
TheUltimateMage TheUltimateMage Claire is really great. Not veto-ing the idea, but her dad being in a coma could pose some interesting developments - might've just been me not explaining it right, but usually when a person falls to Nightmare, the space around them warps to sorta reflect what the Nightmare is, exactly, and can pull other people in. Him just being asleep with no obvious effects can still happen, just wanted to be clear if you did want to keep it that way.
Also, for gecko gecko and rakshasa rakshasa your characters should be okay so long as you make the changes. If you're having trouble coming up with a way how, I'm open to discussion!
So I just went in and edited the daydream, basically made it so the pink smoke (and pink bubble sort of thing for the shield action) comes out of a 50's jukebox, that appears when Ronan hums or sings any of the songs. The jukebox will play any of the Hairspray songs she started humming, as the healing pink smoke pours out of it. I was thinking her power could progress over time to where she only has to think and the jukebox will be there, playing a song, but for now she has to actively hum or sing for it to appear and start doing it's thing. Let me know if this idea works or if I need to tweak it further. Thanks for working with me on it!
That works! And you're welcome c:
Name: Joe Feigenbaum
Age: 29
Appearance: Joe is in many ways ordinary in appearance, being neither exceptionally tall nor short, neither scrawny or bulky, nor is he notably attractive but wouldn't really be called ugly either. He is around 6'0" give or take an inch and his posture can change his apparent height with surprising ease. He is not balding but his hair which is only kept reasonably orderly without any extravagance or entirely consistent in style doesn't reach the mid point of his ears, past his brows or below where his neck joins the base of his head and his mustache and beard transition with time in a cycle of being shaved, growing until they start to become disorderly and shaved again throughout the year. His eyes are green with a blue tint and his nose has more length and point than most. He typically wears monocolor clothes and almost always pants even on a hot day, he is a tad pale from his tendency to stay indoors and wears boots when he works and sandals in casual settings. His narrow eyes and low set brows often give his neutral expression the appearance of a scowl.
Specialty: Burst DPS
Personality: Joe prefers being alone to the company of strangers, is warm to friends and wishes to be useful and help others by nature. He is not very confident socially and has a humble concept of his own intelligence and strength under normal circumstances but is assured of his abilities with his daydream and recognizes the importance of his immunity to the curse as a rare trait that obligates him to offer what he can to fighting it. He rarely tries to get close to anyone but for those he finds himself getting along with, he is quick to become friendly and grows more trusting with experience. He is largely disinterested in sports but can still enjoy something occasionally, but for the most part his interest lies in history, stories, fantasy and mythology, though he can't claim expertise in any of them. In regards to courage, he is perhaps a bit too brave in the face of the real danger monsters present but nevertheless does try to stay mindful of his own limitations.
Background: Joe grew up in a family that was neither poor nor rich, attended and graduated from a decently funded high school and went on to a local college but abandoned it without a degree because he went in without a clear idea of what he wanted to pursue and has struggled to come to a decision since because of his modest estimate of his abilities and fear of wasting all that time and money to end up in a position he hates. As a result, he went from low level job to low level job seeking a position he could feel comfortable in for a while and keeping a roof over his head and food in his belly until Bedhlam became aware of his potential immunity, called on him for some tests and then strongly encouraged him to put it to use when his immunity was confirmed.
Inventory:
  • A wallet with a credit card and a debit card, some stamp cards for a local coffee place and identification
  • A packet of gum
  • a VW Beetle
  • a desktop computer with increasing amounts of storage and RAM added when he can afford it
  • A loaded handgun
  • an older phone in surprisingly good condition
  • A key to his apartment.
Daydream: A small blue statue of a dachshund in wizard attire with a crystal ball. While the original statue he remembers was a normally colored, brown furred dog, the filter of the daydream has warped it. While holding or in close proximity (such as it being just in front of him on a desk), he can remotely view nearby places and gather a compacting mist in an area that is then able to be released for a colorful explosion. He is unable to use both powers at once, and both weaken exponentially past a certain point: 200 meters for former and 50 meters for the latter. The original statue was a gift he gave his father and something he spent a lot of time inspecting and used in his imagination to amuse himself during the man's long absences for work. It became lost among his parent's many possessions when they moved for the last time a few years ago.
Fun Fact: He doesn't have many friends and all of the ones he has he has only met online, but he is happy to have the chance to talk to them anyway.
Borrowed some parts from the original idea but now much more functional and less depressing. Let me know what you think.
Edit:Changed his daydream into something more meaningful and explained where it came from. Also removed the bat as it no longer has any use for him. Forgot a last name when I did the other edits.
Hmm, I'm not sure I follow some of the theming here. I'm getting a, modern day psychopath vibe? Which in itself isn't out of the question but if that is the case I'd like that to be, like, in the sheet. If that isn't what you're going for, where do the bat and gun fit into Average Joe? And I don't understand what the Daydream is supposed to be, honestly.
I was thinking the bat was something given to him to actually use all that strength with and the gun is a backup in case something goes wrong and he can't use his daydream to protect himself for some reason. The daydream I'm not sure of the memory for and thought I might tie it to something later, but a piece of cloth to be wrapped around the arm just sounds neat to me for some reason. As for theme, I suppose I was just thinking of someone who no one pays much mind but who people are grateful to have around.
Well, it doesn't have to be an actual memory. Could be a dream of his, literal or metaphorical. Just that it needs to have some basis on him, is all.
Dreams are often weird and incoherent things so it just being a recurring piece of background noise or related to something forgotten could be it, but I'll try to think of something more significant.
make it a championship belt
Baseball!! Real American Baseball! Baseball bat daydream! Hit things really hard! Having a cloth tied to the arm is one of the ways to mark someone as a gang member, I think, so maybe there's something there, too?
TheUltimateMage TheUltimateMage SP3CT3R SP3CT3R
These could work. I'm not particularly attached to it being a cloth strip but I was imagining something more like a cloth bandage I think in truth. The bat itself is just a normal piece of equipment that would hold up better to the strain of being used with super strength but maybe I should just make it part of the daydream after all. A championship belt is certainly more easy to relate to the strength enhancing property and could have manifested out of a desire to be stronger but I'm not sure if it fits the character. I could go full weeb and make it a shimenawa around the arm or waist and be all "The spirits inside me are quite troublesome, it takes much of my strength to contain them, but with this I can hold them in with much less" before going smashy smash on the monsterinos
In any case, I'll figure it out eventually, but I might need to deal with some of the stuff on my mind first.
I don't know if it fits with your idea for Joe, but what if his Daydream is his favorite brand of coffee, maybe one that was discontinued, and drinking it gives him a lot of energy.
Also, uh, a last name would be nice :b
