Jenova speaks to Sephiroth with a tired urgency in her voice. It was clear that whatever these people have done to her had left her very weak.
Suddenly, a voice sounds over the speakers.
"Attention all personnel, we have subjects loose in the base! Prepare for lockdown sequence in ten seconds!" Muffled static, beeping noises, and the distant drone of industrial machinery could be heard. It was the last resort way for Jenova's captors to stop Sephiroth.

stefan-celic-trinity-soldiers.jpg
A group of soldiers are grouped together near a corridor. "Alright, lockdown is about to commence. We have confirmation that Sephiroth is in the lower levels. By not he's already retrieved the Jenova-REMNANT."

"Then there's Subject DS-0320-20 who's loose and is also closer to the lower levels, while also being accompanied by the anthropomorphic prisoner, Isabelle." Another soldier adds to the report.

"Then here's the plan. When lockdown commences, we'll have one squad set up in front of Subject DS-0320-20's path. If data from the physical scans and samples we've gathered from him are to be believed, he's far stronger than a normal human being. So we'll have to send the Jenoids if we are to approach him and the prisoner if we are to apprehend them. The other squad will be sent to Subject DS-0320-20's way as a back up to give us the advantage."

"Alright then. This should be it then. Hold your position. We've got this."

"But what about Sephiroth? We can't just let him take off with the Jenova-REMNANT, can we?" Another soldier asks.

"As it stands, Sephiroth will just clean house, no matter how many Jenoids we send at him. They'd only delay him for a few seconds maybe but with no suitable reinforcements to combat him with, that might just be a loss we'll just have to take until the higher ups can think of something. I suggest we get in position now."

"Right!" The soldiers split off down different halls of the base, in different directions. Their section of the lockdown about come to an end.

link approaches the masked archer slowly moving his hands away from his weapons.
he puts his hands together before looking down , like he's apologizing.
he looks down as his face is covered by the shade coming from his hat.
unnecesary violance against people protecting their temple isnt something he stands for.
the hero of time waves his hands to the side gesturing for his friends to lower their weapons.
link pulls out a man slowly not to alarm the archers before gesturing at his friends to show them a route that doesnt go through the temple.

“ Oh? Well more fodder for my masamune.” It seems he gravely miscalculated the survivors of the military base. Oh well It doesn't matter he’ll deal with them soon enough. After all he’s been craving blood shed since that clone fought the Slayer, a worthy opponent in his eyes. It’s rare for Sephiroth to feel this excited for something. He’d crush the Doom Slayer soon but he has important things to do. He’d like to see those idiots try and stop him.

It was enough to feel that invoked rage bubbling up in his gut. Soon they’ll feel his wrath for harvesting his mother’s cells, a dutiful son of course. “ If they want to die so badly I might as well give them what they wish for.” He mumbles, icily. As he walked he began releasing dark aura around him, a sign he’s tapped into his full potential. He wonders if this is his true form like mother said. “ Safer Sephiroth, is that what’s it called?” He felt the power rushing towards the tips of his toes.

It was welcoming to be able to reach his full potential at last. No more relying on his supernatural senses alone, no depending on his Octaslash either. “ Come get what you came here for, satisfy my desire for blood shed.” Although he doubts his thirst for blood would ever be sated. He kept on walking, forming a hand signal, preparing to use one of his devastating spells. It felt disappointing to waste his shadow flare on worms like those soldiers. All it took was his rage to be a catalyst to unlock all of that power, so be it.

Roxas' back got further and further away with Snake watching all the while, his gaze hovering around the boys blind spots and peripherals. His overwatch ended when another batch of zombies fell between them. At that point, he drew his knife in his offhand and rushed forward to engage them next to Shovel Knife. Snake was a blur among the green men, weaving under and around their outstretched arms before sticking, locking, and throwing them to the ground with his blades help. He caught glimpses of the Shovel Knight's own battle while he managed his, admiring their showcase of strength quietly. Still, it seemed the effort required from the both of them to dispatch even one zombie was too much to counter the rate they were piling in at. There was another to replace every one they defeated at such a steady rate that their resupply seemed deliberate.

Snake pushed aside a grabbing hand with his knife, discharging violent static into the offender before hooking his arm around their torso and turning hard to launch them into the zombie creeping up behind. The two toppled into the ground one on top of the other, but recovered quickly, defying gravity and their stiff joints by tilting back onto their feet. Whatever damage they'd taken was sausage to them as they continued their advance. These creatures didn't know pain or fear, only whatever horrible urges drove them forward. And Steve did this every night, against numbers like these. And more were dropping in from the ceiling while Snake was thinking this and regrouping. Steve, unassuming and dull as he was, truly was impressive. There was good news, at least. These zombies were dumb as bricks, without any kind of technique or strategy, and relatively slow. Snake could wheel back to Shovel Knight's side, his back pressed against theirs, to gather his bearings in relative safety. Shovel Knight was still mostly a stranger, but also an ally while they were fighting together. An interrogation could wait until another time.

"The numbers aren't in our favor here, but if we keep fighting we'll win for sure. But I have to catch up to those two ahead of us and if we get left behind, we're gonna stay behind." He pulled a grenade from his stash and held it up to eye level for the knight to see. "Can you clear a path forward for us? If you do, when I say run, start running and don't stop. I don't know what this will bring down on us. It might be the whole cave, or it might be our ticket out of here."

As Samus figured. The two Princesses were also rather suspicious of Odessa's arrival. Peach emphasized how the healer's sudden appearance felt too convenient given what had transpired, even going as far as to believing she's potentially a "sheep in wolf's clothing". Samus figured that the royal majesty had been in numerous situations before, being backstabbed by individuals introducing themselves as allies, only to betray her at the last second. It would make sense for her to be on edge. That being said, she did seem to entertain the idea of her being a potential ally, lacking the attributes of being "bad news". The bounty hunter acknowledged both sides of the coin. It was a tough predicament whether or not to prejudge a character's look... and worse so to abandon a potentially innocent bystander.

Then again... where was Odessa during the Deku Tree incident? She had a feeling she'd be one of the first to protect or guard it and the village, even if she claimed how she wasn't particularly the strongest. Regardless, her exclusion from that scene was indeed mildly concerning.

Zelda didn't appear to mention anything at the moment, though Samus also believed she had as much, if not more, experience with deception given her more active role as the Queen of Hyrule. Both were wise and long-standing rulers of grand kingdoms; each attaining much wisdom and experience first hand. Samus respected them for that. At this point, the armored huntress had to make the last call. And given the whole atmosphere of the situation, she knew instantly what was to come.

"In that case," Samus quietly said to her allies, "Let me handle things from here. You three head inside; we'll be departing shortly."

Shortly after, the gunship's engines began roaring to life as the ambient hum began growing steadily louder and more rapid each second. It was ready to depart; but before it could, Samus turned back toward the stranger. She approached her steadily, stopping right at the edge of the retracting ramp. Her stature was tense, but not in a combat oriented way.

"'Wandering Healer' Odessa," the huntress addressed firmly in a respectful tone, "We appreciate your generous offer to directly help us and join our journey. However, we believe it would be best that you continue to heal the very forest you swore to protect. I'm sure many of the inhabitants here need all of the help they can get; no matter how weak or strong they may be. Your role here is important. And it's already more than enough in helping our cause." Samus then begins to slowly walk back into the ship, the sound of clanging metal just barely audible over the ship's ambience. Though before fully entering, the armored warrior paused and gave one final glance back at Odessa. "Though if by chance we need your services," she added, "We know where to find you."

With that said and done, Samus proceeded to enter her vessel; followed closely behind by the closing ramp. The ship's engines reached their climax, as the ship's autopilot began slowly ascending above the forest canopy. The sounds of birds and disturbed wildlife seemed to fill the air, some even stopping to look at the departing vessel with a glint in their eye. For the Smash Sisters, a new chapter in their story was about the begin, as the ship began making its way in a roughly eastward direction.

Now in the air, Samus once again took off her helmet; taking a momentary sigh of relief before walking over and turning on the holographic map for everyone to study. "Right." the platinum blonde woman stated as she planted both arms on the table, "Now that we can finally go places, what does everyone here want to do next? Personally, I believe we should start figuring out our next course of action. We could start by searching for the other fighters in any nearby area of interest or heading straight for the next pillar - given the clues we have at our disposal. "

For several moments, Byleth found himself still lost in his own mind, struggling to wrap it around the idea of fully awakening. That voice... It told me to wake up... he mentally mused. Why did it wish for him to awaken though? As much as he tried to find answers in his own mind, none would come. His memory was far too hazy, and each time he tried to force something to surface, his head began to pound. What even had brought on such pain? That was yet another thing he couldn't remember and he decided against pushing his mind for any kind of answer. Hopefully things would come to him in due time. For now, he needed to focus on waking up, if that was even possible. No matter how hard he thought of opening his eyes, his body refused to respond. It was as if his mind had no desire of letting him escape this slumber. But why? Maybe it was trauma induced, although his body had never reacted in such a manner before. Then again, he hadn't been fused with a goddess most of his life either.

Wait... He was fused with a goddess. The memory of such a thing vaguely made itself present in the forefront of his mind. That was right... Sothis had granted him her powers. The voice from before, that had been her, but how? After granting her power to Byleth she had ceased to exist, yet by some miracle she had come back in attempt to pull him from sleep. If that was the case then how long had he been sleeping? Days? Weeks? Months? He was unsure, but if the goddess was reaching out to him, even after death, then things must be dire. There was no excuse for him to idly sleep. He needed to assess the situation for himself.

Even after finding resolve in such thoughts, Byleth's body refused to respond to his head's own wishes. His internal struggle began to paint itself on his face though. The once soft expression turning to one of frustration. It was more emotion than he usually put out, but it indicated his fight to return from the vacant flows of time that had come to claim him over the past year. The struggle between body and mind continued, though not for much longer.

Byleth's eyes abruptly opened accompanied by a sharp gasp as the feet of a Raticate jabbed into his gut as it scurried through the empty rooms of the fortress. The jabs were enough to send a shock through his body and force his mind to recall the pain it had been left in. Wincing as it all came back to him, the professor was left disheveled. The perfect scene from before had so quickly lost its sense of tranquility and been replaced by his current messy appearance. His robes had been wrinkled by the rat's paws running over them and his hands had dropped from their place on his chest- one resting at his side while the other reached for his head, hoping to ease the pain it was in.

A soft groan escaped his lips as he rubbed his temples and briefly closed his eyes. Why was he in such excruciating pain? It wasn't only his head, but his body as well. His muscles cried out even from the slightest movements, yet from the quick glance he had given himself, he could see no external injuries. Blood would have been easy to spot on white robes after all. Perhaps his injuries were internal then. Maybe that was why he was left in such a slumber. No... That wasn't why. With his body now fully awake, the fog that hung in his mind was slowly beginning to clear, allowing him to begin piecing things together.

The last thing he could remember was the Empire marching on the Monastery. Byleth had prepared himself to fight on the front lines, but Rhea had stopped him. It was in that moment she had informally appointed him as her successor as Fodlan's next archbishop. Such had been a clear sign that she expected to die in the fight, while keeping him safe to carry on her mantle, all because he had been chosen by the goddess. He was hardly a holy man after all, having never taken in the teachings of the church until he arrived at the Monastery. Despite that, he had decided to accept Rhea's order, though not for long. The moment she was in trouble, he recalled moving in to aid her, and putting himself in a prime position to be attacked by the ones that had so helplessly tried to kill him several times before. Thales openly attacked him and broke the cliff beneath his feet, sending him plummeting to his supposed death.

That was all Byleth could recall of his final moments of consciousness. How he had survived the fall or anything else associated to it was all a blur. None of it was important anyways. He had enough information to piece together where his pain was coming from. The fall itself likely brought it upon his body, which in turn would force his powers to try and heal himself, causing his head to throb. Clearly his healing capabilities weren't strong enough to ease pain, though it was clear they could at least clear any physical wounds.

Heaving a sigh of relief, the professor dropped his hand away from his head and slowly forced himself up into a sitting position. Ignoring the pain for now, Byleth quietly allowed his gaze to flicker around the room he found himself in. It was no place he recalled ever seeing. The walls around him hardly seemed to be holding themselves up. It almost appeared that at any moment they might begin to crumble around him. It reminded him of the ruins of Zanado, though this place was far more intact than the remains of Zanado were. That crossed such a location off his list of possibilities.

Pushing the thought aside of exactly where he was, Byleth rose to his feet, letting the long, cloths of his robes fall down to drape his legs properly. The cape on his back fell into place as well. Looking over his attire, he quickly took note of a few things- for starters, the Sword of the Creator sat on his left hip, and on the other side of his midsection was a small dagger. Those were the only weapons present on his being, though that should come as no surprise. He wasn't one to carry much weaponry as is. One sword and one dagger was more than enough for him to get the job done. Besides, if he needed more, he was lucky enough to wield magic without the help of tomes, though he wasn't one to heavily rely on such things. Magic had never been a forte of his, yet Sothis chose to gift him with magical prowess.

Swords and magic aside, he had his abilities tied to his enlightened status as well. Such abilities were ones he hardly knew how to use, and Sothis hadn't had the time to teach him every detail of them before she disappeared. Yes, he could manipulate time, but nowhere on the scales that the goddess could. He learned to rewind time, in short segments, but doing such a thing had its own drawbacks, ones which could severely harm Byleth mentally, thus he often opted against such a thing unless the situation was dire. Were those powers even functioning? There was only one way to find out.

Raising a hand in front of himself, flames began to flicker from his palm before he cast them at the ground and watched as the plants that were growing in the cracks of the floor ignited. For a few seconds, Byleth watched as the fire grew, making no movements of escape. He simply watched as everything began to burn. It was only when the embers began flickering in his direction that he finally did something, although it was only something he would feel. Briefly forcing time to freeze, he forced it to rewind back, though in doing such he could feel the massive strain on his own mind.

When the flames were once again in his hand, he waved them out of existence before grabbing his head again. "Dammit!" he uttered under his breath. While it worked, it was clear the repercussions were far greater than he would like, even for rewinding something so simple. It was far worse than usual. Likely it was the result of his powers helping his body recover. Whatever the reason, it was clear that he would not be using such powers any time soon. That was fine by him. While his powers allowed him to possibly save others, he never liked relying on them. He feared others would become too aware of his power and try to manipulate him if he did.

Dropping his hand from his head once again, Byleth figured he'd have to endure the pain for now. He'd have to let his body naturally recover from it, much like the other pains he was feeling. With that in mind, he had no plans of sitting about idly waiting for himself to fully recover. He could at least figure out where he was. Maybe that would help him find his way back to his allies, assuming they hadn't been annihilated by the Empire.

Such thoughts caused the professor's brows to flatten and a faint frown to form upon his lips. Had his comrades been completely stomped by the Adrestian Empire? Had he failed them? Nothing in his memories told him of what had happened, but that was to be expected. He hadn't been around to see the end of the battle, thus its outcome entirely unknown to him. All he could do was hope that the best had occurred. Perhaps the outside world could provide him some insight on such. Finding a goal, Byleth took a brief look around at his surroundings and quickly took notice of a crumbling set of stairs in the room to his right. It seemed like his best path forward for now.

With no hesitation, he finally moved himself forward, feeling the immediate strain on his muscles. Everything ached. Despite the pained expression that managed to make itself present on his face, Byleth trudged on.

The journey up the stairs to the peak of one of the fortress' towers was uneventful, which was probably for the better given Byleth's current condition. As he arrived though, he was met with a very unfamiliar sight- a barren land spread as far as the eye could see. While it was clear it had once been a battlefield, it wasn't one he recognized in Fodlan. If anything, it looked nothing like his homeland, but if this wasn't Fodlan, then where was he?

Continuing to scan the area below, his gaze landed upon a few stray Goombas that were waddling about. Now that was something he recognized, but not from his own land. No, they had been one of the creatures that belonged to a different world entirely, the one which Mario and his friends came from. Did that mean he had returned to the Smash Realm? Maybe. That certainly explained the unknown terrain, though it hardly explained why he would return.

Propping himself against the tower's wall, the professor quietly began to rack his own brain once again, searching for some kind of answer. Thankfully, he was awake enough to begin recalling more of his memories, albeit some were rather unwelcome, but he pushed them aside as he focused on the ones from his time in Smash. Most memories of such seemed quite irrelevant. The fight against Dharkon and saving the realm gave no indication of why he would have returned. What came after? The tournament itself. That wasn't important either, though maybe because of his inclusion back then he had been invited again. Surely, that wasn't why he was here now. Hardly any time had passed since then... unless.

Creasing his brows, Byleth began to ponder how long exactly it had been. He had no answers though. Had enough time passed for the next tournament to occur? Even if it had, why would he have been pulled to this location rather than the Stadium? It made no sense.

It's been a year, you dolt! And the people of this world summoned you! The sudden return of the voice from before caused Byleth to shudder, but he was quick to calm himself and even quirk a curious brow. "The people of this world summoned me?" he questioned, but no response would come. That was all he got. He should be thankful as is, though hearing Sothis' voice again did sadden him. It reminded him of his own recklessness that had led her to giving her life to save his. Grimacing at the thought, the professor quickly shook the feeling and pushed himself from the wall he was leaned against.

"I've been asleep for almost a whole year, huh..." he breathed out, letting such a thing sink in. If a year really had passed then he was sure much had changed. Even he had changed, despite how little time he had spent awake in the past year. Shaking his head, Byleth quickly ran his fingers through his messy, green hair. "If the people here summoned me then... Is something happening...?" He was left to ponder that question alone, but he already knew he was devoid of any kind of answer. "Maybe someone is around then..."

With that thought in mind, Byleth moved a hand down to grab the hilt of his sword. Maybe he could give a sign of his location with it. Pulling the sword from its place, he lifted it overhead and allowed it to begin glowing a fiery orange in hopes that anyone nearby might see his beacon and make their presence known.

Princess Peach

With a heavy heart, Peach nodded as she headed back onto the ship...

"I'm really sorry about this, but... It's for the best... For now, at least..." The pink Princess thought to herself as she went back inside the ship with a hung head.

She actually HATED to leave Samus to do all the dirty work, but truth be told the armored bounty hunter worded their farewell far better than Peach herself could have.

She saw Cream, Cheese, and Pikachu already inside and smiled at them, gently patting Cream and Cheese as she passed by (She WOULD have pet Pikachu too, but the poor thing seemed rather upset still and she didn't want to make matters worse, so she just gave the electric mouse a consoling smile instead). Behind her smile, however, was a troubled, worried look about her...

"Did I want Samus to handle that because it is her ship and she gets the final say in who goes on it...? Or did I just want the easy way out to thrust the decision on someone else...?" The Mushroom Princess asked herself as she made her way to the newly displayed holographic map and did just as ordered: She began to study it.

The map was almost deceptive in how "normal" it made everything look: Peach was willing to bet some of the lands would not look quite as "clean" as they did the closer the ship got to them...

She frowned at the map, deep in thought,

They could start reading similar energy signals to the pillar they already have...

But first things first!

"We should do both, for sure, but the first one we should do is send a signal in hopes of finding the other fighters... If any of them have found any of the other pillars and can respond to our signal, that would be the most efficient way to gather both fighters and pillars... Not all fighters will be friendly, however: I still stand by sending a signal or beacon may bring hostiles our way, and because it will be YOUR ship taking on enemy vessels I think the final say in sending out a beacon before tracking the other Pillars goes to YOU, Ms. Aran," The Mushroom Princess cast her vote for the first course of action, however, of course, she then looked to Zelda to see if perhaps the wise Hylian Princess had any suggestions as well.

Peach would LOVE to meet more friends than enemies on this endeavor... But knowing her luck, she was probably going to get a response from the dreaded Koopa King himself...!

Interactions; Bowser ( Develius Develius ) Lord lunaris ( GrumpySwallow GrumpySwallow )

Ridley snickered, a low chuckle could be heard under his breath. Once he then received the medallion symbolizing the trios alliance with one another. He was even more curious on how Lord Lunaris knew exactly where Samus and Zelda were located.

That’s brilliant……”

He mumbled under his breath too himself. He quickly shook his head and nodded about the topic of their armies

My space pirates will be here very soon, I’m planning on eradicating Samus and capturing the rest of her, stupid friends of hers, once my mother ship and the rest of the space pirate arrive it will take no time to round up the rest of the smash brothers. Who could they have to possibly rival me? RIDLEY! MWUHAHAHA’l

He said laughing in a manically evil way. He too then took a good look of the embel of alliance. Hm. It sure was interesting, he’ll give lunaris that.

Could you have any ideas of where Samus and her idiots are heading towards? I want she destroyed ASAP. Ya’ here lunaris?”

Snapping his fingers as he finished his sentence.

He was thinking, after he finished his long rivalry with Samus Aran, he would catch and capture the rest of the smash brothers that were with her. Not too mention previously that bowser told him not too hurt princess peach, even though she was just a dumb damsel in distress and easily replaceable by another princess.

He also thought it was oddly weird how she didn’t do anything to not get captured. She just stood in her mushroom kingdom expecting to not get capture, and surprised when she was captured. Insanity that’s how she would call her thinking. He really wanted to plasma scream her face.

Toon Link & Pit
Where: Ghost Ship, middle of the sea
With: Pyra/Mythra ( Ploegy Ploegy ), Jeff ( Kaiju Cat Kaiju Cat )

Toon Link had already scribbled the riddle on a piece of parchment and tucked it into his tunic. He smiled and gave Mythra a thumbs up, agreeing with the conclusion she and Pyra came to. Being a Link, he was no stranger to puzzles, and in his own experience the meaning of cryptic words tend to become clear the deeper one explores. So, time to explore!

Whatever thoughts Toon Link and Pit had were interrupted as Jeff spoke through clenched teeth, clearly upset by something. Both boys peered into the mists outside but saw nothing but the anguished souls on the Ghost Ship. Toon Link reached out to place a friendly hand on the other boy's shoulder and smiled reassuringly. Ghost ships were tricky things; it didn't surprise the Hylian at all that it may try to scare the life out of them through spooky imagery! Pit shouldered his bow and stuck his chest out in what he fondly thought was a noble and heroic post.

"Just stick close to us, Jeff!" Pit said, brimming with confidence. "T'ink and I really are pros when it comes to dealing with spooks!" To prove it, he pointed Palutena's Bow toward the ghostly mists and called out in a loud, stern voice. "Harken to me, evil spirits of the Ghost Ship! Make peace with your end, for I, Pi--"

Toon Link yelled and waved his arms at Pit. The angel turned his stare to the boy, unhappy with having his rallying cry interrupted. His irritation became realization, then sheepishness. Pit lowered his bow and rubbed the back of his head. "Er, right, T'ink! No one's supposed to know who we are. I forgot, I guess... Uh... Lead the way!"

Toon Link nodded and made his way out of the Captain's Quarters with Pit following not far behind. He knew that a ship this huge must have at least three more levels: the gun deck, where most of the cannons would be as well as the crew bunks; the orlop deck, where the galley, ship cables, and supplies were held; and the hold, where the majority of the ship's cargo was stored, as well as the brig. If this Crystal Coconut wasn't in the Captain's Quarters, then the next likeliest place would be in the cargo hold. This means they will have to go deep into the ship itself. No problem for four members of the Super Smash Bros. and the boy genius friend of Ness!

As they descended to the gun deck, Pit felt his feathers rise despite his wings being hidden beneath a shirt, and a gnawing feeling in his stomach that he was certain wasn't hunger. He exhaled loudly; he must remain focused on the mission! This ship is nothing compared to the Underworld! Yet, he could sense something here. Pit didn't have an aura-sensing power on the level of Lucario, but he could feel changes in his environment such as the static electricity that filled the air whenever Phosphora was present or the PSI energies that Ness and Lucas emitted. Was this possibly the Crystal Coconut? But why would a magical coconut give off such an ominous energy? It didn't make sense to the angel.

The gun deck was just as ancient, mist-filled, and rotten as the rest of the ship. The tattered remains of sleeping hammocks hung from the ceiling, each hammock spaced between rusted cannons. The splintered wood of what were once crates and barrels littered the deck floor, their contents long gone. The ship's capstan was near the center of the gun deck, and wrapped around it was the anchor chain. A long wooden table and chairs rested at the far end, obviously the ship's mess.

The first thing to capture Toon Link and Pit's attention was the skeleton on the floor near the stairs they had descended from. There were a few skeletons on the deck. Regardless of the bones' position, the skulls were always in the same state: jaws open in a silent scream. The skeleton closest to the boys began to glow a blue light at their approach, similar to the unfortunate captain. Once again, a voice intruded into their minds.

"I came to this ship in search of a great treasure said to be hidden aboard... I was instantly struck with overwhelming terror... The next thing I knew... I died..."

The blue glow faded away. Pit knelt down beside the skeleton and, with great gentleness, closed the skeleton's jaw. Perhaps it will bring the spirit a bit of peace to know its remains were no longer transfixed in terror. He then stood silently, staring at the bones a moment longer before raising his eyes.

What he saw next made him freeze, a startled grunt tearing from his throat.

"B-Bayonetta?!"

Sure enough, standing before him, surrounded by the bone-chilling mists, was the Umbra Witch herself! The woman grinned smugly at him, a grin that caused Pit's scowl to deepen.

"I am Pit, Captain of Lady Palutena's Royal Guard," the angel muttered to himself, frozen in place, his grip on Palutena's Bow tightening. "I am not afraid of Bayonetta!"

Bayonetta struck a voluptuous pose, guns in hands as she winked flirtatiously at Pit.

"I am Pit," he repeated, "Vanquisher of Medusa, slayer of Orcos, and destroyer of Hades! I... am NOT afraid of Bayonetta!"

With a yell, he charged at the woman, who raised her guns and fired. Pit jumped, dodging the attack and closing the distance between himself and his enemy. His two blades flashed as he brought them down--- and sliced through mist!

Pit landed on his feet, sliding forward into a stop as he glanced around in confusion. Bayonetta was nowhere to be seen, the only other living things beside himself being his companions. "Hey! ...Where'd she go? You... you guys saw her too, right?"

Toon Link took in his surroundings, but didn't see anyone else besides his fellow Super Smash Brothers. A trick of the Ghost Ship, it looked like!

Pit's face was red with anger and embarrassment. He straightened, turning his back to his friends and shaking himself before putting his hands on his hips and sticking his nose in the air, indignant. "Well if it was a trick, it wasn't very funny! I'm not laughing!"

Agent Three moved out of the door’s way as Joker and Ann came on out, slipping on their masks as they stared on at the steadily rising ship. On the other hand, Three looked on as Joker’s face scrunched up like a deflated balloon, as he seemed to shower every inch of his brain for a plan. Shoot, should she also be doing that? Maybe if they put their heads together then they’ll be able to think of something quick!

Wait, Inkling’s eyes fell to Joker’s hands. Why’s he pulling that grappling hook? He can’t be serious! But it’d be far too late for the squid to try and stop him as the phantom thief shot right into the sky, trailing right below the airborne airship by nothing but the cord of his hook.

….It wouldn’t have hurt him to at least let one of them be backup would it? Well, they supposed it was too late for that anyways. And didn’t they just establish why going on a mission alone was a bad idea with the whole Bowser faux kidnapping? (In this moment Agent Three failed to remember the fact that it was her very own idea in the first place). But whatever, it wasn’t like there was anything they could do about it now besides wait for him to hopefully come back. Plus, they knew Joker was pretty dang capable, even Panther seemed to agree and she’s probably known him for way longer!

So with that, the Inkling leaned against the Morgana mobile, masked eyes staring towards the tiny little dot floating in the air. As they did, a rather worrying thought began to sprout. Those minions had seen them when they drove up to the crash site…and now they were back with Bowser, so that means they would probably report back to the big man in charge. Which means…

Uh oh.

Yeah, as soon as Joker comes back they need to leave.

Like, IMMEDIATELY

Ann would most likely notice the end of her very pink glove being tugged on by the weirdly square fingers on Three’s hand, but just as squid was about to relay this concerning revelation, something fell from the sky.

Or rather, someone.

Falling from the heavens, Joker and his Persona shot towards the ground like a speeding comet, before landing right before the rest of the group, now wearing a school uniform for some reason. But soon enough both that and Arsene would melt away in a flash of blue flames, returning Joker back into his usual gear as he turned to finally address the team.

Unsurprisingly Joker confirmed that there wasn’t a chance in heck that they would even think of getting near the ‘big scary things in the sky’. But what followed was much more of a shock.

Ridley, the big scary purple dragon alien monster that probably ate babies for breakfast, yeah that guy. Well, looks like he was now officially in cahoots with Bowser which was definitely something that Inkling totally was happy to hear. Now instead of just being burned alive by fire now they can all get burned alive by pure plasma too! Heck, bring back the rathalos and it can be a real reptile party!

…Great Zapfish save them all.

That wasn’t the end of it either, as Joker then mentioned a third individual, probably the wizard Paula mentioned and based on his assumption, the own of the castle. If Agent Three could find any slimmer of positivity is this absolute mess of a situation, at least the robed figure wasn’t one of the other fighters like Byleth or Robin.

With that, Joker seemed to reach the end of his findings, moving the topic towards what the team’s next steps should be. Skinny Cloud and his friend seemed to be hesitantly for heading to the stadium despite the presented danger, with Paula voicing the same thing.

Though interestingly enough Paula also seemed to already know a thing or two about who the mysterious third individual was, claiming him to be a ‘Lord Lunaris’ who apparently was supposed to be the ruler of the Smash Realm. The Inkling tilted their head slightly, a mild look of confusion sprinting upon their face. Agent might be one of the newer tournament members, all things being considered based on what they had learned, that title was supposed to belong to the Hand’s wasn’t it? So, if some hotshot was now the self proclaimed ruler…Inkling shivered. Something truly wrong has got to be going on here.

Alright, it was time for the cephalopod of the group to cast their vote. Should the team risk encountering the three very dangerous villains to continue towards the stadium, should they wait it out in the jungle, or was there some other thing they could do instead? Inkling glanced at the path ahead of them and then towards the direction they’d come from, stroking the tip of their chin.

Well, frankly neither of the proposed options sounded all that appealing, especially with the knowledge that it wouldn’t be long before word gets leaked to the big Koopa that they’re nearby. Maybe hiding in the jungle could work but if the bad guys actually begin a search on them then one of the first places they’d scope through would probably be the jungle, though maybe the threat of Rathalos would discourage that. And heck best case scenario maybe they had some bigger fish to fry somewhere else and won’t even bother searching for them unless necessary. If that’s the case, then heading directly to the stadium would probably be enough to really get Mister Luna-Walrus on their tentacles.

So really between the two options it was either a near definite possibility of having to face the citadel or only a slightly less likely one. Then there was the whole matter of what possible danger the other fighters might be in. Who knows what could be going on at the stadium! Could the group really afford to standby when their friends could very well all be in danger?

Agent Three grimaced at all of the heavy duty thinking going on. They’re an agent, not a captain. They’re supposed to follow plans, not make them, and the team knew how well the last plan they made turned out!

Finally they stopped and faced the group, that look of careful consideration completely gone. If each plan was so terrible and Inkling couldn’t think of anything else better, why not just pick an option randomly?

The squid hurriedly dug through the pocket of their shorts to fish out a singular golden coin

BsrH7h8xABKOfoZb93HvXAtYeAzWZVvt1haz8xAPahNUTr0bhDW-2IfYlDYyVb0cZ_DgHyCx1x2xSG9r9kwZjojuRW41NRbTTgpjK6ADNuEc6F3rd1lPdgg1BIc6DahDbwKYepl_CY3KrtcFI-DDQjw

Heads (Dice roll 1-3): They vote for going to the stadium
Tails (Dice Roll 4-6): They vote for hiding in the jungle

With a quick flick of their thumb, the coin went flying up into the sky, its golden surface shimmering faintly as it came careening back towards the Inkling. Landing right into the palm of their hand, Agent Three took in the results.

“Wis wae!”

Agent Three pointed in the direction of where the coin of fate had answered.

The Slayer came to a halt.

Isabelle stopped in her tracks, looking up at the behemoth of a man with a considerable amount of confusion. Her tail went between her legs, maybe she really was that irritating to him. But before such a thought could gain any credibility The Slayer would quickly show it to not be the case at all. Rather, with a huff, he’d kneel beside the little secretary, his gaze directed towards the paper in her paws.

“Ah, you want to see the map?”

Isbelle leaned in closer to provide him a better look, eyes following with curiosity as he placed a finger atop the paper, slowly tracing out a route for them.

As he silently scanned the map Isabelle found herself strangely being reminded of the Island Representative. Both they and the Slayer were pretty quiet people, something that some people unfortunately took as intimidating. But, once you got to know them one would surely find that they weren’t exactly what you’d seemingly expect.

….Or well, it’s probably too early to assume that would also be the case for the Slayer, wasn’t it? She had only known him for what, an hour at most? And while he was awfully kind to protect her from the clone, it was also quite clear to her that the Slayer wasn’t the sort of man to shy away from graphic displays of violence either, which wasn’t exactly something she’d ever think to associate with the Island rep (Unless large amounts of fishing and bug catching counts as violence). Nevertheless, she figured there really wasn’t much point in comparing the two, so Isabelle simply filed away that thought into a mental cabinet, which luckily perfectly coincided with the Slayer finding whatever he was interested with in the first place.

The Slayer's finger finally reached its destination, right below the words ‘Control Room’.

Ah, as much as Isabelle would have liked to leave the facility, she couldn’t deny that there might be some use in going there and seeing what they could find. After all, there might even be some clues as to why she and him had been held in such an awful place to begin with.

Isabelle gave a small nod as the Slayer rose back up,

“Right, let’s get going”

With that they continued down the hall and soon enough the duo would eventually find the elevator in question. As the made there way closer Slayer would go ahead of her, propping up the doors open for the little Shih Tzu to hurry on in. With that she hopped up to press the number ‘2’ button and then it finally began to make its way up.

1676765829728.png

Compared to the dreary nature of the rest of the base, the elevator seemed to be the one thing that had escaped the path of destruction that the Sephiroth clone had left behind him. Well, save for the bloody foot pits that Isabelle and the Slayer had now tainted the carpet with. Its floral pattern was now splotched with an ugly rust red yet even that did little to diffuse the relaxed nature of the ride as gentle elevator music filled the space, blissfully unaware of what had occurred mere inches outside of its doors. For just a moment Isabelle allowed herself to close her eyes, take a deep breath, and savor this brief relief from the tension that violently clung to her.

The elevator finally came to a stop, as the doors once more opened to the sight of sword marks, blood, and reminders of the destruction and chaos that had combed through here not long ago.

Swallowing down her nausea, Isabelle stepped past a clump of bodies piled right beside the elevator entrance, likely a desperate attempt from them to flee to the upper levels, only to have been too late and caught by the hands of Sephiroth. It was terrible but Isabelle couldn’t afford to let herself become preoccupied by such terrible thoughts, not now. Instead, she allowed her mind to wander to Wilbur, the Island Rep, and all of her other friends both back on the island and assumed;y also within the Realm. Speaking of, Isabelle once more pulled out her Nookphone and opened the message app, thinking to herself for just a moment before typing out a string of text and tapping the send button. Unsurprisingly, still no reception. It looked like she likely wouldn’t have any until they finally got out of the base, making it all the more imperative that they find out what was in the Control Room and leave as soon as they could.

Speaking of, it wouldn’t be too long before they’d make it to the room in question. As she came closer to the door, Isabelle could just faintly hear voices from the other side. Carefully, she pressed a yellow ear against the door and closed her eyes shut.

[-under attack, and a lot of - - - - - are hurt or alre- - - dead. If anyone can - - - this, please send hel- - - try to ho- - out as lo- - - - can, but the- - - are - -ng- - -ous res- - - - sub- - - lo-]

The voices finally went dead silent, dying out to only be replaced with the awful crackling of static now. Isabelle’s shoulders slouched a little, that brief flash of hope? Fear? Too fizzling out from her eyes. It must have been a message sent out by the base. But, she let herself rise back up. Still, that must mean that someone had to have gotten the signal, right? She couldn’t lose all hope, not now.

Determined, Isabelle made her way to the door, but just before she could hop up and grab the handle, another much louder voice rung out from the intercoms scattered about the base, and this one inspired no such hope within the secretary, none in the slightest.

1676765806324.png

[Attention all personnel, we have subjects loose in the base! Prepare for lockdown sequence in ten seconds!]

Isabelle’s sight flung towards the Slayer as the shrill ringing of alarms blared out in the hall.

“That doesn’t sound good!”

The matter of a ‘Lockdown Sequence’ filled the little puppy with cold dread. That didn’t mean that they were going to be trapped in here did it? There wasn’t any time to waste as Isabelle hurriedly flung the door open, motioning for The Slayer to enter before she herself would slip inside. It would surely be better to be in there rather than getting stuck out in the open hallway after all.

With Byleth's flaming sword illuminating the darkened skies, his signal would be seen across the majority of the great fortress. Few signs of life were present in these barren lands, having been ravaged by war alongside the dreadful heat. Yet those that survived, such as the stout desert goombas, the bleached reanimated skeletons of Dry Bones roaming the halls, or the cheerfully waving segments of the spiky pokeys out in the distance, would feel quite at home. Those that saw the flaming blade would briefly look up with curious eyes, before returning to their daily routines. These minions would rather stick to their own goals rather than answering a call to action that they could hardly fathom.

Life would go on.

But there was once place around the Fortress that would be particularly noteworthy. Not far from where the fortress' main gates would be, one would be able to see an abandoned market place, that had once filled with numerous citizens and customers. Among the empty and decrepit stalls, one of them still appeared to be active. A small but well-kept establishment, it looked to still sport a variety of goods. A campfire was also nearby, still ablaze and emitting a trail of smoke. Of course, that could only mean that there was a person behind the counter.

And if Byleth decided to head over and take a closer look, he'd see a crimson haired woman wearing a badet... sleeping on the job! Both arms were on the wooden counter, with her right cheek held up by her hand as she was dozing off. Looked like business was pretty slow in these parts. Yet behind the shopkeeper, one could see the merchandise and products she had in stock; ranging from a variety of unique weapons, potions, and trinkets.

After their short discussion, it appeared that everyone had finally come to a decision. Although there might have been some potential benefits to allowing Odessa to provide assistance, everyone agreed that the possible risks were far too many to ignore. And so Samus ushered the rest of the group inside as she went to break the news to the healer in question. Although Zelda herself knew it was the best decision the group could make, she still couldn’t ebb away that feeling inside herself that practically begged for her to turn back and shake Odessa for all of the knowledge she may or may not even carry.

Zelda glanced down at the back of her right hand as the ship began to slowly rise up from the ground. For someone bearing the Mark of the Triforce, she wasn’t doing enough to truly warrant having such a gift from the goddesses. The way she could feel it reverberate underneath her skin, as if to mock her own foolishness, dangling all the answers just out of her reach. This could have gone a better way, she could feel it echo. Maybe they could have poured out any and all necessary information regarding not just the state of the realm, but also concerning the mysterious Lunaris or the Ten Pillars. Would it have been reasonable for a supposed humble healer to have access to such information? Zelda strongly doubted it. But still, perhaps it was the Triforce, or maybe her own subconscious that knew something was off just enough for her to be aware of it but not enough for her to truly understand.

“…ah”

Zelda realized just how tightly her hand clenched onto the other and forced herself to relax, breathing out a small sigh as she tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear. Dwelling on their decisions would be of no use. They had used their reasoning in order to determine the best solution based on the little context they had. And time spent fruitlessly dwelling on what if’s would certainly be of no use to any of them.

She desperately needed a distraction, anything to take her mind off of this. Like a knight in shining arm, a change in topic was something Samus thankfully provided. Gathering the group’s attention, the bounty hunter made her way towards the holographic map, eyes glimmering with a determined shimmer as she began the discussion of their next steps, which just so happened to coincide with the young Cream’s own question.

A gentle smile would replace Zelda’s contemplative expression as she motioned for the young girl to draw near. “Come close, we were just about to discuss our next actions”

Her eyes fell away from the child, landing upon the holographic map in the center of the room. Drawing closer, she examined it closely, vying for any obvious hints of the best possible route to go. Despite this examination, nothing immediately sprung out to her as an obvious choice of destination. Truly the entirety of the realm was equally, which made the thought of narrowing their choices down all the more harrowing. Thankfully, there was another thing they could determine first before any possible destination. That being, their goals.

1676797809140.png

For now there appeared to be two major actions that the group could and eventually will have to take. There was the issue of gathering allies, reuniting with their fellow comrades in order to face this foe as one united force. But how to face this foe? That question could only be answered through collecting all nine of the other Pillars, an equally imperative quest that needed to be dealt with. Thus the biggest question of all, which should they focus on first?

Peach Toadstool was the first to suggest an idea. Once more, she posed the potential of using the signal to gather as many of their friends as they could in one fell swoop. And just as before, the possible gains were surely tantalizing, but the dangers attached were equally nothing to scoff at either. Who knew who or what would sense the signal and come their way. If Lord Lunaris were truly able to overpower the Hands’ title over the lands, then he was likely to be a very powerful threat, in the absolute worst case perhaps even stronger than the likes of Galeem or Dharkon, foes that even the fighters at their full might struggled to defeat. So, until she gained access to a general idea of what threat Lunaris could pose when they will face him head on, Zelda found herself unsure if now was the best moment to paint such a large target on their backs.

An apologetic look flashed in Zelda’s eyes as she responded to Peach’s suggestion.

“do agree that using the signal could serve to help us collect the Pillars but..I’m still unsure if the benefits of using the signal outweigh the potential consequences. While some of the other fighters surely have found out about the reign of Lord Lunaris, the likelihood that they would too also know and have stumbled upon the Pillars is far less of a guarantee…In the worst case we would inadvertently be gathering ourselves for Lunaris to do away with in one fell swoop, especially with only one out of the ten Pillars at our disposal. Until we can be safe to assume that we could survive a direct encounter with Lunaris, I would prefer to bide our time collecting the Pillars in order to ensure that once do finally face him we will be able to come out victorious”

Zelda’s eyes fell back to the map for a brief moment, pondering just how scattered the fighters might truly be.

“I trust that each and every our friends can hold their own for just a little while longer”

Yet, her expression said otherwise, as she could feel the guilt from before begin to creep it’s way back into her thoughts. But Zelda would quickly dispel this feeling as she faced the others and continued.

“But, that isn’t to say we would completely forgo searching for them altogether either. Though undoubtedly weaker than the strength of the signal, there still is the option of my telepathy. Though not as strong as the signal it might still pose some use in at least contacting any nearby allies. And, just as gathering the fighters to our location could make collecting the pillars easier, the opposite could be true were we to focus on collecting the Pillars. If we continue our travels throughout the realm we’ll surely be bound to cross paths with at least some of the others.”

With that, Zelda had provided all of her reasoning so it was time to finally give her concluding thoughts.

“So for now, I will place my vote for prioritizing the nine other Pillars of Creation and Destruction. With them being the only tools that can stop Lunaris, it is imperative we reach them before he or any other fiend is able to acquire them first or else it might truly spell the end for the realm”

As she came to a close, Zelda realized that between Peach and herself, this now put the group at a tie.

“But just as Princess Peach stated, it is your ship so therefore you deserve more than anyone to have a final say on the matter”

Odessa
Where: The Forest

Odessa bowed her head respectfully as Samus refused her services. "I understand." As the bounty huntress made her way back into her ship, Odessa glanced at Cream briefly before speaking to Samus once more. "Let me give you this warning: there are golden orbs in the sky, the eyes of Lord Lunaris. I have seen them shoot down anything in the air above a certain point, regardless of whether it is vehicle or bird. Go with caution, and fortune be with you."

As the space ship began to lift from the ground, the priestess moved herself to where she could not be seen. She opened a small ceramic jar she carried on her belt and a tiny Shemum slithered onto her offered hand. Odessa then pulled out the Gossip Charm she wore around her neck and broke a coin-sized piece off of it. Using a mix of pine resin and charcoal she kept in her healer's kit, she stuck the shard onto the winged serpent's head.

"Ophiss," the priestess spoke in a soft voice, "I need you to be my eyes and ears. Follow them, and keep yourself hidden."

"Assssss you wish, my lady," the miniature Shemum hissed. With a flutter of her tiny wings, she flew up to the departing space ship and found a space to wedge herself in. Odessa watched a while before returning to the brush where the Kobil waited with her weapons. Odessa was capable of using her connection with Ophiss to see and hear everything she did, but the addition of a piece of a gossip charm was for Lunaris's benefit. Now he had a personal pair of eyes to watch the activities of the Super Smash Brothers!

Odessa gasped softly as she felt heat build up within her head. A voice like rumbling volcanic earth with the hiss of sulfuric steam creeped into the back of her mind.

"A mere spy, my priestess?" the voice asked, a touch of amusement in its tone. "How easy it would've been to call forth my Skull Wings and reduce that ship to smouldering scrap!"

"How can I?" Odessa answered, eyes still on the departing ship. "There's a child on board..."

"Oh? And what about the poor souls in the village?"

"That is different!" Odessa exclaimed hastily. "They had a chance to escape!"

"Yet many didn't. You know that."

The woman went silent. The entity let out a deep chuckle that churned her stomach. "My dear Odessa, that humanity of yours will be your downfall. Who was it that turned your brother into stone and shattered him?"

"... Medusa," she replied with hesitancy.

"And when rumors of the Wish Seed spread throughout the land, and the King pressed every able-bodied man into his army to fight for it, including your beloved husband, who dropped the meteor that snuffed out his life?"

"V-Viridi..."

"And then, despite your continued dedication, who sent the angel to slaughter you and your dear little daughter?"

Odessa choked softly, wrapping her arms around herself and shutting her eyes tight as she was struck by the horrible memory: blood staining the white marble floor of the temple, the screams of the wounded and dying, a flash of sapphire and gold blades and the pain that followed, and a pair of soulless blue eyes that stared into hers until a child's cry from nearby drew their attention away...

"After giving your life to Her worship, that is how She repays your loyalty. You understand then, my priestess, that if it is vengeance against the gods you seek, you must be as ruthless as they are! Palutena, the so-called 'Goddess of Light', will know pain when she is made to suffer as WE have suffered!

There is so much strife in this land, I can feel it! Soon the time will come when I shall make my return, and the light of the heavens will be snuffed out forever!"

Odessa trembled, her eyes opened wide as she was overtaken by a vision. She mumbled involuntarily, "When Orcos walks, the earth will quake... When Orcos flies, the skies shall break!"

Lunaris
Where: In the sky, on Bowser's airship
With: Bowser ( Develius Develius ), Ridley ( R U S T R U S T )

Lunaris was quite pleased with the turn of events. Both Ridley and Bowser were eager to unleash their full wrath upon their enemies, and with his own troops bolstered by the armies of the Koopa Kingdom and the Space Pirates, chances were good that the Super Smash Brothers will soon be only a distant memory!

At Ridley's snappy demand that he provide information as to where the Smash Sisters were heading next, Lunaris politely raised a hand, not at all hurried. "Patience, Lord Ridley. As great as my powers are, I cannot predict the future. ... Hmm?"

A soft chime within his robe caught the sorcerer's attention. He pulled out a Gossip Charm that he had hung around his neck. Through it he saw everything Odessa's Shemum servant saw. It was on the bounty huntress's ship, and from a look into the sky, the Hylian was able to guess which direction they were going.

"It seems my dear Odessa has been busy," he said. "By the looks of it, they are still in the southern forest, but they are making their way east. Interesting that they are choosing to go that way instead of the Stadium. It is my guess that the Great Deku Tree had told them of me. Lord Ridley, King Koopa, if we are successful in taking out Samus Aran and capturing Princess Toadstool, it will be a devastating blow to the Super Smash Brothers."

The masked archer jumps down from the balcony and lands on the ground. He moves past the other archers and approaches Link and stares at him for a moment before slowly looking down to his boots. He then slowly walks around Link and examines his weapons before stopping in front of him "You're...Hylian? Correct? The sword and shield you brandish is that of the Hyrulian kingdom. Yet...Your attire...It's almost...Like ours." The masked archer lifts his hand up and closes his fist, with that, the rest of the archers lower their bows. "Are you...Kokiri?" The masked archer asks.

Before Link could give an answer, Captain Falcon speaks up "YES! Yes! That is exactly what he is! No doubt about it! Been one since he was kid, right Link?"

The masked archer stands in silent for a moment before taking one of Link's hands and holding it up before taking a bow to the Hero. "Then we welcome you, friend! Accept our apologies for not having recognized you before! Please, you and your acquaintances can follow us inside! But continue to treat the blue one with extreme prejudice..."

Captain Falcon sighs "Ofcourse..." One of the archers stomps on his injured knee "AAAARRGH!" Two archers lift Captain Falcon up by his arms and proceed to guide the rest towards the entrance.

Jeff was more or less irritated by the trick now he saw what it was. “ Pit, I’ll be fine, really.” He nodded at Mythra’s suggestion to move on. The boy is more than happy to explore the ghost ship with them. It was a little bit for fun to him as they traversed the lower deck. At least his muscles seemed to relax a bit after that annoying encounter earlier. He wonders where the crystal coconut is. It seemed like Toon Link had a knack for lockpicking and riddles that made sense to Jeff. Toon Link is a pirate after all. Jeff kept an eye on the ghost ship though but it seemed like Pit had fallen victim to the ship’s mind spell. Because Jeff didn’t see anything, no witch either.

“ I’m afraid it’s a trick that happened to me too.” He sighs, cleaning his glasses. Perhaps it was the fog’s effect on their mind or it may be a spell of some sorts. It seemed not to affect Mythra or Toon Link. Jeff deduced whatever it was, it affects their psyche. “I think this spell seems to play on our worst fears.” Jeff has a hunch that it’s a mind spell he frowns. He looked at Pit who seemed mildly annoyed by this. “ Will you be ok?”

Nodding his head slowly, Ren took in everything that was said. Not much seemed too important. The others seemed to heed his advice of avoiding the dangers in the sky, which was good, and upon seeing Inkling pointing in the Stadium's direction, he now knew his companions, except Ann, all seemed to agree that the Stadium was their best course of action. However, before he could look to his fellow Phantom Thief and ask what she was thinking, his mind stopped him and backtracked to what Paula had said. Much to his surprise, she had offered a name- one he had never heard before- and claimed that he was the cloaked individual he had seen with Ridley and Bowser. How she had obtained such information, he wasn't sure, but who was he to question. Whatever information they could get their hands on was for the betterment of their goal, though he could hardly say such information put him at ease.

His face evidently showed signs of such, and with no mask to hide it, Joker's real concerns were open for all eyes to see. His brows creased as he brought a hand to his chin and quietly hummed to himself. "Lord Lunaris, huh..." he quietly mused as he cast his gaze skyward. If who he saw really was this Lunaris individual and he was some supposed "Ruler of the Smash Realm" then they were in a more dangerous position than he had anticipated. It worried him. Those worries wouldn't easily go unnoticed.

Out of the corner of his vision, the thief noticed Ann moving towards him and almost immediately his gaze fell to meet her. Noticing a gentle smile upon her face, Ren was quick to offer one of his own. "You're making that face again," she told him softly. Rubbing at his cheek, his brows flattened before his gentle smile was replaced by a more sheepish one instead. "Was I? I didn't notice..."

Shaking her head, the blonde crossed her arms over her chest and let a soft sigh escape her lips. "You know you don't have a mask to hide it." Those words sent a wave of realization through Joker and his face wrinkled more in embarrassment than it had before. For someone who had been trying so hard to mask his own feelings, he sure was forgetful about how exactly he was hiding them. It truly showed how much he had been relying on his own literal mask to cover them.

Letting a sigh of his own escape his lips, the teen lifted a hand up to run through his messy, black hair. "How forgetful of me," he chuckled. Despite the lighthearted tone of his voice, the look in Joker's eyes betrayed such a feeling. They were distant, almost brooding. It wasn't easy to pick up on given how the rest of his face harmoniously gave off a more pleasant vibe, but Ann knew him better than that. She wouldn't easily be fooled by such tactics. Besides, she had vowed months ago to him that she would break through his well held facade one day and see more of his feelings. It was clear her efforts were paying off.

"So, before you ask me what I think we should do, I wanna know, why are you dressed like this? Decided it's time to be Ren instead of Joker?" she teased. Her own playfulness was enough to chase his brooding gaze away and replace it with a more genuine look of happiness. Even a soft laugh rumbled in the back of the male thief's throat.

"Sometimes the best disguise is no disguise," Ren replied while pushing his glasses up on the bridge of his nose. Before his next words would come, his lips curled into a devious, yet playful smirk and he leaned his face closer to Ann's. "Do you miss your incredibly handsome Phantom Thief already? I know you haven't gotten to see him much lately, after all."

Ann's eyes widened at those words and her face almost instantly flushed a bright shade of red. "T-That's not what I was thinking!" she objected, but Joker only laughed as he pulled himself back. "I-I was curious why you came back like this!" Her voice squeaked as she spoke, which only amused the other thief more. Perhaps he should stop embarrassing her in front of others though. She already was red as beet.

"Don't worry, sweetie, I'll take care of this." Resting his hand against the center of his glasses once more, he quietly mumbled to Arsene, most which was inaudible, though was enough to cause flames to begin flickering around his body. The blaze of blue danced around his entire being, eating away at the school uniform he wore, and quickly replacing it with the thieves attire he was so well known for. The glasses were the last thing to go, but within seconds they too were burned away by the flames and his iconic black and white mask formed in their place. As the artful display died down once more, Joker utter thanks to his persona before dropping his hand from his face once again.

Allowing his gaze to settle upon Ann again, he spread his arms wide open and took a step towards her. "Don't worry, your Phantom Thief has returned!" he announced proudly, hints of playfulness coming through. Locking the other thief in a tight embrace, he squeezed her happily before feeling her wriggle in attempt to escape.

"Oh my god..." she quietly breathed out as she struggled to break from his grasp. "You are too much! Please let me go you moron!"

Laughing at those word, Joker released her, but before she could hurry away he leaned down and put his face close to hers again. "I'm your moron, though."

Huffing, somehow Ann's face managed to grow redder and as it did, she pushed her partner away and turned from him, entirely embarrassed by his tactics. "Please move on with what we're doing!" she pleaded, wanting any and all attention to be off what had taken place. By now she had her face buried in her own hands, trying to hide how red she actually was. While she couldn't deny she enjoyed Joker's playfulness, she always found it embarrassing when others were present, and she knew he was fully aware of such a thing. It was as if he had forgotten there were others around, or maybe for once, he had decided it wasn't a bother to himself like it usually was. Either way, what was done was done.

Upon seeing his girlfriend's reaction to it all, a light chuckle escaped his throat before his attention shifted towards his other companions. Despite being given no direct tell on what her thoughts of the situation were, Ren felt he had enough of an idea of how she felt. She wasn't one to disagree too often when others were in agreement with one another. Knowing that he could proceed forward.

"Moving forward now," he began, clearing his throat in the process. "I seems all of you are in agreement that we should continue towards the Stadium. I have no objections with this, but I would like to put forth a line of defense before we arrive there. I can talk this over more while we drive." Figuring there would be no objections to that, Joker turned himself towards the Mona car and gestured for the others to climb in first.

Watching the group move to the vehicle's backseat, his gaze once again returned to Ann who was very clearly still trying to compose her after his antics. Letting an amused sigh out, he approached her and gently snaked his arms around her from behind before leaning his head over his shoulder to offer her a smile. "I'm sorry I embarrassed you like that." His words only received a soft groan in response, but that hardly discouraged him. If anything, it was better than her wiggling around in attempt to escape. Smiling, he moved one arm up to pull his own mask off and much like he had done previously, he attempted to use it to block his actions from those who might be watching through the windshield, and leaned in to place a soft kiss upon her cheek.

Such an action instantly caused her to silently squeal out, but before she could fight against him, Joker released her and moved his mask back to his face. "Come on, let's go before they all start getting too impatient."

Nodding, the pair of thieves split from one another and went to opposite sides of the car- Joker entering in one the driver's side and Ann sliding in on the passengers. Both were silent as the Phantom Thieves leader started up the engine and even ask they began moving that silence continued. For Ann, she was still trying to compose herself after everything that had taken place, while for Joker, he was trying to gather his own thoughts and hash out a line of defense. While he was sure he had plenty of time to do such before they arrived at the Stadium, he wanted to have something in place sooner rather than later. Last minute ideas would only leave more room for error after all.

Leaning back in his seat, his mind went through his list of options. His first line of defense was clear, especially if they were attacked while still on the road. The personas would come into play. Both Arsene and Carmen could act freely outside the car without much harm being done, though he and Ann would slowly be drained the more their partners exerted themselves, which might cause problems, much like it had during the fight with Bowser. He had to keep such in mind. There was no telling what waited for them after all. For all he knew, an army the size of Bowser's, or even bigger could be waiting, or maybe it was only their comrades that were there. He couldn't throw out the possibility of both either.

Even so, he had to plan for them all. It was a hard task, especially given his lack of knowledge on his current team. Inkling, Ann, and Morgana were the only ones he knew much about. The other three left him wondering. He only knew what he had seen in their previous fight, which in reality, wasn't much to go off of.

Drumming his fingers silently against the steering wheel, he thought of voicing such a concern, but perhaps it was better he didn't. While communication was good among them, he was the one who clearly was looked to in order to lead them. He had to learn how to play around such things. It wasn't as if it was his first time. Still, the circumstances were different, and his usual tactics as a thief weren't exactly fit for situations like this, yet he still had to somehow apply them. He'd have to rely on his over-the-top flamboyance and confidence in the scenario they were heading into rather than his elusive and cunning side. The element of surprise likely wasn't on their side after all.

Pushing that thought aside, Joker focused his mind back on the topic of lines of defense. As he did though, he caught Ann looking at him in the corner of his vision. Side eyeing her, he gave a small tilt of his head, wondering why she might be looking at him in such a manner. His actions seemed to get his point across and quietly she spoke up, "You should probably speak to them. They need to know what you're thinking."

She was right. He did need to speak up, and the sooner was better. The longer he waited, the more likely they'd be worried. With that in mind, the thief gave a small bob of his head and turned his attention back in front of himself. Sucking in a deep breath, he quickly exhaled and mentally prepared himself for what he was about to propose.

"So, our lines of defense," he began, leaning back in his seat as he did. "If we're attacked while still in here, Panther and I will deploy our personas to be our first line of defense. The two of them should be able to handle most enemies, though we'll have to make sure they aren't overworked." Pausing for a moment, he glanced towards Ann again and saw her nod in agreement. That was enough for him to continue on. "As a second line of defense, I believe either I or Panther should act alone to avoid someone coming under fire from our personas. We best know how to navigate around them making it easy for us to work alongside them. Whichever between us doesn't go will be the one continuing to drive. However, if we are stopped by then, I suggest either Prompto or Noctis accompanying our thief for more close ranged combat."

He figured Ann didn't agree with that part of the strategy, but she also couldn't rebuttal it either. The two of them were the most familiar with their personas and that was undeniable. He was also sure, she was aware of which role he planned more for himself and which she would have. Of anyone she knew his tendencies best. Even so, she stayed silent, so he continued.

"Our third line of defense will be Inkling and Paula. Both of you have ranged attacks which should play nicely in covering the personas and whoever else might be at the front lines. If things at this point seem hopeless, I suggest our third wave to provide cover for our frontline to retreat. We don't want to be overextending or overexerting ourselves in losing efforts."

It was rare for him to say such things, but he knew them to be true. They couldn't afford to lose. This wasn't like how things had been when his team used him as bait for their grander plans. Everything about what was waiting for them was unknown, and because of such, Ren couldn't offer plans of someone acting as bait. Not again. This had to be a team effort no matter what. Even he couldn't act self sacrificial. If it came up in the moment while things were playing out, then sure, but not beforehand. Letting a sigh escape his lips, he rolled his shoulders back and prepared to present his last segment.

"Our remaining members will help where they can. If one of our frontlines needs immediate help, they should be the ones to rush in and aid getting them out, with the help of cover from our third line of defense. Any major injuries can be taken care of by Mona's persona, which will remain on standby for all support purposes," he said, feeling confident in the steps he had in place. While it wasn't perfect, it allowed them to function in a manner in which Joker thought would work best for them. For all he knew, such things could very much end up being pointless, but until they arrived, there was no way he'd known. Even with such in place, the thief still had one last fail safe to it all.

Taking one hand off the wheel for a moment, Joker dug into his pocket and pulled his cellphone out. Holding it out to Ann, he gave her a gentle look. "In case something goes very wrong, the MetaNav should provide a safe escape, barring it still works. I know you have one on your phone too, but-"

Pushing his phone back at him Ann gave a shake of her head. "Nuh-uh Joker. I'm not holding on to both our phones," she objected firmly. She knew exactly what he was trying to imply and she was not having it, especially after making it clear they weren't being self sacrificial. "If it comes to us trying to use the MetaNav to retreat to safety outside this world, then you're coming with us! No trying to play some hero role, got it?!"

Her words were firm, and Joker knew better than to push against it. Instead, he gave an obedient nod of his head and quickly tucked the phone away again. "So, that should be everything. Of course, plans can change if other fighters are there, or we run into nothing, but I believe this is our safest path forward."

In his mind, it was solid, especially for his usual plans. Ann could easily attest for that much. It lacked his usual recklessness, which in this case was for the best. The only flaw he saw was the lack of incorporating what would happen if other fighters were present. That was something he simply couldn't plan for, unless he planned for every possible fighter, which he didn't have the time for. He hardly had time to think this one out as is and even if he wanted to change things, it was too late for it.

The Mona car suddenly shook, causing Ren to momentarily lose control over its movements. Gritting his teeth, he felt his heart race as he quickly tried to regain control over the vehicle, but as soon as he was steady, the van was attacked on the opposite side, causing the same issue to occur. Outside, Burrowing Snagrets popped up from underground and assaulted the group's vehicle with no regards for its passengers. With each attack, the group was violently shook and Joker was forced to try and keep them from flipping over. It was a difficult task, but he was managing, just barely though.

"Panther, summon Carmen and-" he started, but he would never finish. Glass falling in his lap and the head of one of the birds snapping at him was more than enough to catch him off guard and cause him to entirely lose control, but at least it forced the creature out of his space before it could do any damage. However, the car was spinning out of his control and before he could try and stop it he glanced out the front windshield and noticed it heading right off a small cliff and into the plains that awaited below. While the fall didn't seem bad, it was a fall nonetheless, and one they would all be unprepared for.

In sheer panic, Joker reached for his mask and quickly grabbed it, throwing it out the window as he bellowed out for his persona to manifest. While it was a gamble in itself, he had to at least try and have Arsene stop their descent and land them in a more gentle manner. "Arsene, grab the car now! Do whatever you can!"

His voice was clearly panicked as he ordered his persona, but the entity hardly minded. It simply did as it was commanded. Swooping overhead, Arsene extended his arms, barely managing to wrap them around the rooftop. As he did such, his wings spread out as well, and slowed their fall, eventually touching them down in the plains below.

As soon as they were on the ground (and in a safe manner), Joker let a heavy sigh of relief escape his lips, though this was only the beginning of what was to come. While he took a moment to calm himself, he wasn't give too much time before Morgana's cries came rumbling through the radio's static. "JJJJJOOOOOOOKKKKKKEEEEERRRRRRR! THAT HURT!" the feline whined. Giving a small shake of his head, the thief gave the wheel a small pat as if he was comforting his companion. "I'm sure it did. I'm sorry."

After such an attack, he knew Morgana would need a break. There was no doubt he had take some kind of injury for all this and forcing him to continue while in such a state would only make thing worse. Continuing on foot was the best option, and only caused minor problems in his established plan.

Turning in his place, he looked back at the members in the backseat and offered them an apologetic look. Nothing could have prepared them for what had happened, but the thief still felt the need to offer his apologies. "I'm sorry for that," he began before rubbing the back of his neck. "And I'm sorry to say we're likely going to need to walk from here on. Mona likely sustained too much damage for us to safely proceed in the car."

While it did slow things down, they had covered plenty of ground. Turning back to look out the front, he could make out what appeared to be the Stadium on the horizon. They were getting close. That was good.

Before he could do anything else, Ren felt a hand against his cheek and he turned to look towards its owner. Eyes falling upon Ann, he offered her an apologetic smile as well. He would have spoken then, but her second hand came up to rest on his other cheek and he quietly watched as she looked him over. It was clear she was looking for some kind of injury, and honestly, he couldn't blame her. He had almost been bird food. Feeling her thumbs gently rub at his cheeks, the thief gave an embarrassed huff as his face began to redden. "Ann... I think that's enough..."

Realizing she had become too hyper fixated on his condition, she sheepishly dropped her hands from his face and turned away. "I'm glad you're okay."

Nodding his head, Joker said nothing more before he reached for his door and opened it. Sliding out, he took a few steps away from the vehicle before looking up at Arsene, who was hovering above the rooftop, warily looking out at what awaited them. Following his gaze, the thief's face twisted into a look of concern.

In the near distance, he could see small hordes of enemies spread out across the land. They clearly looked organized as well and from what he could assume, they had been waiting for someone to come along. Unfortunately, it had to be them. Glancing towards Arsene again, the thief had to ask, "How many do you think there are?"

For a moment the persona was silent and simply continued to overlook the scene before them, but after a moment, his head shift and his fiery gaze landed upon Joker. "Upper hundreds. Mayhaps even more."

Hearing such an eerie number spoken, Ren gave a slow bob of his head. "Right... this changes plans a bit," he breathed out. Tucking his hands in his pockets his gaze moved back to the plains ahead as he tried to plan what was best. By now, he expected the others had climbed out of the van and joined him. However, he didn't bother looking. Instead, he merely spoke, "Our plan changes a little. Our second wave will be myself and Prompto or Noctis for certain now. We fight whatever gets past the two personas, and the third wave still provides cover for us, while fighting anything that gets through us. The ones I didn't mention before will assist our backline. We move as a unit, so don't stray, got it? The moment they see they can corner one of us, we're in trouble, so aid each other in whatever ways you can."

Finally pulling his gaze away from the scene awaiting them, Joker turned to face his ragtag team and offer a confident smile, despite the concerns he felt. He had to be confident because if he wasn't, then he was sure things would fall apart quickly. As he faced the group, Arsene joined him, hovering behind him as he waited for things to begin. Before that could happen though, the thief decided to speak one last time. "I know I didn't give any of you a say on this setup, but I hope you can trust my judgment. If not, I understand if you would like to back out now and not get involved in what is waiting for us up ahead," he stated as one of his signature smirks formed on his lips. "I don't know what the Stadium holds, but we'll have to fight our way through to it to see. Are you with me?"

At those words, the thief extended a hand out, hoping for the others who agreed to join him in some silly little pre-battle cheer. Ann seemed to understand his gesture and stepped forward to place her hand on top of his. "You know I'm with you till the end," she said, smiling in her partner's direction before extend such an expression to the others. Side-by-side, the two thieves stood, waiting to see what the others were prepared to do.

Paula realized she doesn’t know Joker and Ann that well, as of matter of fact she doesn’t know Inkling that well either beyond speaking to her telepathically. She spoke a little bit to Noctis and his friend back there, aware of the circumstances prevented them socializing barelly except exchanging pleasantries. She figured they’ll get to know them soon.

Although Paula doesn’t have much to say about herself. She’s a teenager from the small town of Twoson, a girl who is born with psychic powers. Before departing with Ness, she helped her parents run the Pole Star preschool. It’s a short description but straight to the point. But Tales of her adventures with her friends seemed more interesting than her life story.

And boy does she have a lot of stories, the things she’d seen and the enemies they’ve encountered on their travels. Case in point the Yellow Brick Road man who was an oddity but fortunately friendly.

As Joker drove in the direction of the stadium, he explained his plan in case they ran into the enemy. Paula’s psychic powers are incomparable yet deadly. Before she could speak up the Sargets attacked Joker’s side of the vehicle. Paula debated on helping the boy but her help would likely backfire in the form of her psychic powers. While she’s a ranged attacker, those abilities of hers are meant for dealing damage to large groups of enemies like PSI Fire as the only example. With the exception of PSI Freeze which is a single attack. Her choices seemed foolhardy at best and useless. Relying on her praying and Thunder PSI is out of the question.

Her mind was all over the place like someone poking a beehive, it’s difficult to pick the best PSI and not put her comrades in danger. She raised her frying pan ready to give that bird a nice whack upside its noggin or a swift kick to its face. Fortunately, Joker summoned Arsene in time, the boy’s resourcefulness proved he’s a good leader time and time again, which is a breath of relief. When they were safe on the ground, the knots in her stomach went loose. Although there’s a change in plan it doesn’t seem to put a damper on things.

She’s determined to see this through. “ I’m strong, I can walk to the stadium. I've been through worse than this. I have my psychic powers on hand. If anyone’s hungry I got food they are filling and have healing properties.” She figured it would be a long walk and might as well offer. It would be insane to go on an empty stomach at least it’s nuts to her. “ I’m with you all the way, Joker.” She nodded. The boy has earned her respect after all.

Noctis and Prompto listened to Joker's plan during the drive. Neither of them knew much about their new companions. They both started to bond with Paula who they now consider a little sister.

Both Ren and Ann had their Personas...which Noctis assumed were summons of sorts. Noctis wondered if he would be able to call upon the Astrals to aid him in this foreigh world. It wasn't the first time Noctis waa spirited away in another world.

It was decided. They were going to the stadium. Both Noctis and Prompto listened to Joker's strategy. He sure rivals Ignis when it comes to that. Noctis thought. Noctis had alot to learn.Joker was a better leader then himself, the future king of Lucis.

Then the Sagrets attacked, catching the prince and his best friend off guard.

Noctis summoned a Moogle plushie that Iris gave to him. He used it as a decoy depite Iris gave him to him as a good luck charm.
"I'll have to apologise to Iris once we get back home..." The attack ended before Noctis had the chance to throw the doll to distract the bird.

Both Noctis and Prompto listened to Joker's new plan. "I'll go with Joker." Noctis replied. "Prompto is more long range and can cover us from behind."
"Guezz, thanks for the vote of confidence Dude!" Prompto replied.
